Amen.
-
Amen.
-
Okay, we're in 1 Corinthians chapter 9.
1 Corinthians 9 chapter mention
-
Look down at your Bibles in verse 1.
-
It says,
-
Am I not an apostle?
-
Am I not free?
-
Have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord?
-
Or not ye my work and the Lord?
-
If I be not an apostle unto others,
-
ye doubtless I am to you,
-
for the seal of my apostleship are ye in the Lord.
-
And the time I started this morning
-
is in defense of the apostle Paul,
-
in defense of the apostle Paul.
-
Go to Acts 24, if you will.
-
We're going to come back to 1 Corinthians chapter 9
1 Corinthians 9 chapter mention
-
towards the end of the sermon.
-
So put a pen or a piece of paper there in 1 Corinthians 9
-
and go to Acts chapter 24.
Acts 24 chapter mention
-
Galatians chapter 1 verse number 1 says,
Galatians 1 chapter mention
-
Paul an apostle, not of men, neither by man,
-
but by Jesus Christ,
-
and God the Father who raised him from the dead.
-
Galatians 1 verse 11 says,
-
But I certify you, brethren,
-
that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man,
-
for I neither received it of man,
-
neither was I taught it,
-
but by revelation of Jesus Christ.
-
There seems to be a resurgence of a fringe group of heretics
-
that are bent on discrediting the apostle Paul.
-
Okay, this is actually something that's
-
very popular on social media right now.
-
And they're essentially asserting that the apostle Paul
-
was one of the great cancers of Christianity.
-
He's the one responsible for corrupting Christianity,
-
causing it to deviate from the ways of Jesus.
-
They view him as a false prophet.
-
And this heresy has obviously taken many forms
-
throughout the centuries,
-
but it's actually currently being promoted by those
-
who adhere to what's called Christ consciousness.
-
Okay, Christ consciousness is essentially
-
a New Age esoteric interpretation of Christianity.
-
It's basically Hinduism within Christianity.
-
It takes concepts and doctrines of Christianity
-
and corrupts it through Eastern mysticism.
-
And it basically interprets Jesus Christ
-
not as being the Son of God as the Bible clearly teaches.
-
It interprets him as being simply a messenger,
-
a spiritual leader that can help you
-
gain inner transformation, okay?
-
Inner transformation, spiritual awakening,
-
enlightenment, and that's all that he's good for.
-
And the most common way to describe this position now
-
is basically anti-pollinism.
-
Now I remember about 15 years ago or so,
-
I was in a church plant
-
and my father-in-law, who was just my pastor at the time,
-
he was preaching and then we had a visitor come
-
and the guy came, he left,
-
and then he just started emailing the church,
-
just kind of blasting the church.
-
And he was like, you guys are so ridiculous.
-
I can't believe you guys are quoting Paul.
-
You guys are for Paul.
-
What's with you guys in Paul?
-
And I'm thinking to myself, Paul,
-
you mean because Paul's in the Bible?
-
Like, because he is responsible
-
for the majority of the New Testament?
-
Like what's your beef with Paul?
-
And he just went on this crusade of just attacking Paul.
-
And I remember just kind of responding back to him
-
because I was in charge of like the emails at the time.
-
And I was just saying, hey,
-
the apostle Paul was called by Jesus Christ.
-
He preached the same gospel
-
and this guy would just not let up.
-
And I thought it was the most ridiculous thing
-
I've ever heard.
-
I'm like, man, I've never heard of this before
-
but this is something that's been common
-
even over the last 2000 years, believe it or not.
-
People who simply reject Paul's authority
-
and this is common today.
-
In fact, there's a heretic right now
-
by the name of Aaron Apke, okay?
-
He's on social media.
-
Doesn't have a massive following necessarily on Instagram
-
but he does have a massive following on YouTube.
-
And this guy is all about attacking the apostle Paul,
-
discrediting his writings,
-
claiming that he's a heretic,
-
that he teaches contrary to Jesus Christ
-
and he brings up all these railing accusations,
-
all of these railing accusations against Paul.
-
But when you look at this guy's channel,
-
you see this guy isn't just an absolute false prophet,
-
false apostle, heretic
-
that believes in astral projection.
-
He believes in this eastern mystic type of meditation,
-
just rejects the word of God
-
and you think to yourself,
-
well, what's the problem then?
-
You know, if this guy is that,
-
who's gonna fall for this?
-
Well, apparently a lot of people are.
-
And I've had many people send me videos
-
saying, hey, can you respond to this guy?
-
This guy's teaching some weird stuff
-
and I don't really know how to answer this.
-
He's bringing up all these slanders
-
against the apostle Paul.
-
And look folks, obviously I know that in this church
-
no one's gonna be carried about
-
with that type of wind of doctrine.
-
And if you're thinking to yourself,
-
well, I do think he has some valid points,
-
then you need to go ahead
-
and get your astral projection out of here.
-
Astral project out of this church
-
and go somewhere else.
-
This is not the church for you, okay?
-
Because at the end of the day,
-
you know, if you reject the apostle Paul,
-
you're essentially rejecting Jesus Christ
-
because he came in the name of Jesus Christ
-
just as if you were to reject the apostle Peter,
-
the apostle John, right?
-
Any of the New Testament writers,
-
if you reject them as being authoritative,
-
then you're basically rejecting the entire word of God
-
because they were inspired by God
-
to write the word of God.
-
And they say nothing in contradiction
-
to the teachings of Jesus Christ.
-
They were appointed by Jesus Christ, okay?
-
So this guy has some of the most egregious accusations
-
against Paul.
-
He calls him a false prophet.
-
He states, I quote,
-
I think he was an overt narcissist
-
who was obsessed with his own teaching.
-
Okay, so aside from astral projection,
-
he just likes to project period, right?
-
He's projecting who probably who he is.
-
He obviously believes that Jesus is not the Son of God.
-
He's just a great messenger,
-
a teacher that is used for enlightenment.
-
And again, this position has been held by heretics
-
over the last 2,000 years,
-
albeit it's been in different,
-
under different names and titles.
-
But you have, for example,
-
in the second century,
-
a group called the Ebianites, okay?
-
This is a group of Jewish slash Christians
-
who rejected the writings of the apostle Paul.
-
They held to the Mosaic laws
-
and they sought to continue to carry out those laws.
-
And of course, they deviated from the doctrines of Christ.
-
But of course, as we know,
-
you know, because this is something
-
that's common throughout the Bible,
-
we know that this is simply a concerted effort
-
by Jews, okay?
-
Throughout history to dismantle Christianity
-
by attacking those who spearhead the movement of their time.
-
And make no mistake about it,
-
the apostle Paul is one of the greatest Christians
-
of the New Testament writings.
-
And we would even say
-
that he's probably one of the greatest apostles
-
out of all of them,
-
because he did the most work.
-
And you know, this guy would listen to that,
-
like, oh, you're just worshiping Paul.
-
No, just real, recognize real, okay?
-
Give honor where honors do.
-
And according to the Bible,
-
we see that God used them extensively.
-
He used them greatly
-
to not only get a bunch of people saved,
-
to start a bunch of churches,
-
but also to pen down a large portion of the New Testament.
-
And look, folks,
-
you can do a study on the epistles of Paul
-
in comparison to the Gospels,
-
and they line up perfectly.
-
And you know what's great about that?
-
Is the fact that the Gospels,
-
Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John,
-
were actually written.
-
We're talking about pen down
-
well after the apostles of Paul were written down.
-
So the epistles of Paul were some of the first
-
writings of the New Testament to be written down.
-
And then years later,
-
the Gospels were written down.
-
Even though the Gospels
-
highlight events that took place
-
prior to the apostle Paul.
-
You say, what's the significance of that?
-
Well, the apostle Paul's writings
-
match up with what you see in
-
Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
-
You know what that tells me?
-
It tells me that the Bible tells,
-
what the Bible says,
-
that all scripture is given by inspiration of God.
-
It's profitable for doctrine,
-
for approval, correction, and instruction,
-
and righteousness,
-
that no prophecy of the scripture
-
is of any private interpretation
-
for holy men of God's sake
-
as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
-
The apostle Paul,
-
he's a great guy, but you know what?
-
Ultimately, God is the author of the Bible.
-
He doesn't need to write things
-
in chronological order
-
in order for it to make sense
-
because he can inspire someone
-
to write these things down
-
and be accurate about them, okay?
-
So the apostle Paul is great.
-
No problems with him.
-
We see the seal of his apostleship.
-
And in this sermon,
-
I want to go ahead and defend some of these,
-
defend against some of these egregious attacks on him
-
that people are making today.
-
Apostle Paul is no stranger
-
to this type of rejection and persecution.
-
I mean, we find people slandering the apostle Paul
-
all the way in the book of Acts, right?
-
Look at Acts chapter 24, if you would,
Acts 24 chapter mention
-
in verse number five.
-
Acts 24, verse five says,
-
for we have found this man,
-
referring to Paul,
-
a pestilent fellow
-
and a mover of sedition
-
among all the Jews throughout the world
-
and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes
-
who also had gone about to profane the temple
-
whom we took
-
and would have judged according to our law.
-
Now, this is one of many examples
-
where people were attacking Paul
-
saying that he was preaching heresy.
-
He was trying to get people to deviate
-
from the law of Moses.
-
He's a ringleader.
-
He's a pestilent fellow.
-
He's a heretic.
-
People wanted to kill him.
-
And what is this proof of?
-
Is it proof that he's a heretic?
-
No, it's proof that all that will live godly
-
in Christ Jesus
-
shall suffer persecution.
-
And look, folks, there's a difference between
-
being persecuted for things
-
that you're preaching that doesn't line up
-
with the Bible
-
and being persecuted for things
-
that do line up with the Bible.
-
You see, what's the difference?
-
The difference is we have the Bible
-
to compare,
-
we have the writings of Jesus Christ
-
that we can compare
-
to the life and writings of the apostle Paul
-
and see that they match up perfectly.
-
Okay?
-
You know, the apostle Paul
-
is inspired by God.
-
He is a man of God.
-
One of the greatest apostles.
-
And we're going to look at some of the
-
accusations this morning.
-
Go to Romans chapter 3
Romans 3 chapter mention
-
if you would.
-
Romans chapter 3.
Romans 3 chapter mention
-
Now all this is pretty basic
-
and you will have no problem
-
understanding this.
-
So if anything, you're just going to
-
learn and become more grounded
-
in your understanding of the apostle Paul.
-
But we are also equally
-
just going to debunk a lot of these
-
accusations that are made against them.
-
So what are some of the contradictions
-
that this guy is stating
-
that the apostle Paul has?
-
Now let me say this.
-
This is a part one.
-
Part two is going to be tonight
-
because there's so many accusations
-
against Paul from this guy
-
that I'm going to preach
-
the second half tonight.
-
Number one is that
-
Paul contradicted Jesus
-
concerning salvation.
-
Paul contradicted Jesus
-
concerning salvation.
-
Jesus taught salvation
-
through good works
-
and keeping the commandments
-
whereas Paul introduced justification
-
by faith without works.
-
Now what's interesting about this
-
is this guy is promoting this like crazy.
-
He's like Jesus taught
-
you have to keep the commandments
-
in order to be saved.
-
The apostle Paul did not teach that.
-
Now those who teach a workspace
-
salvation within mainstream Christianity
-
just have to know
-
you associate with people like that.
-
You associate with the astral projection
-
group out there
-
that believes that salvation
-
is by works
-
and it's by keeping of the
-
mosaic commandments.
-
That's what it is.
-
Why?
-
Because it's simply repackaged
-
and given to another false prophet
-
to preach that false gospel.
-
He says,
-
oh Jesus taught
-
a different salvation
-
then Paul
-
they contradicted one another.
-
Look at Romans chapter three
-
verse seven if you would
-
and again this accusation
-
there's nothing new under the sun.
-
The apostle Paul has always been accused
-
of preaching a false salvation
-
a false gospel.
-
Look at verse seven
-
for if the truth of God
-
hath more abounded
-
through my lion to his glory
-
why yet am I also judged
-
as a sinner?
-
And not rather look what it says
-
as we be slanderously reported
-
and as some affirm that we say
-
let us do evil that good may come
-
whose damnation is just.
-
Now this is a common accusation
-
from those who do not believe
-
in salvation by grace to faith alone.
-
They say, oh one saved always saved.
-
So what you're saying
-
is that you can just believe
-
and live however you want.
-
Let us do evil that good may come.
-
But what does the apostle Paul say?
-
He said that's a slanderous report
-
because the Bible simply teaches
-
that yes we're saved
-
despite the fact that we're sinners
-
despite the fact that we are encapsulated
-
by the corruptible body
-
but the Bible also teaches
-
that there's consequences to our sin
-
here in this world.
-
So the Bible says
-
whom the Lord loveth he chastened it
-
and scourged it every son whom he received it.
-
That's what the Bible tells us, right?
-
And in fact there's instances in the Bible
-
both Old and New Testament
-
where God kills his people.
-
Hebrews chapter 10 tells us
Hebrews 10 chapter mention
-
vengeance belongeth unto me saved the Lord
-
and again the Lord shall judge his people.
-
What does that mean?
-
It means God will kill you.
-
You know the Bible tells us
-
in 1 Corinthians chapter 3
1 Corinthians 3 chapter mention
-
that if you defy the temple of God
-
him shall God destroy it.
-
Over and over again
-
we see God judging people for their sins
-
but you know what we don't see in the Bible
-
is people losing their salvation.
-
It's a slanderous report to say
-
oh one saved always saved
-
automatically equates to
-
you could just live however you want
-
and what's funny about that
-
the irony in that statement
-
is that most people who make that statement
-
are living however they want.
-
Most people who make that statement
-
and that accusation
-
are living a godless life
-
a sinful wicked life
-
they are these holier-than-thous
-
pharisaical types
-
that want to get on people
-
for believing in the grace of God
-
that can save a sinner
-
who believes on him
-
but then you go on their Instagram
-
and they're drinking,
-
fornicating and running
-
with those that do.
-
Kind of nonsense is that.
-
What do we see here in Romans chapter 3?
Romans 3 chapter mention
-
The Apostle Paul is basically addressing
-
what people have said for a long time
-
even what this guy is saying
-
oh he's teaching
-
that you can just live however you want
-
no consequence in hell and so forth.
-
Folks the Gospel of the Apostle Paul
-
is the same Gospel as Jesus Christ
-
but to him that work if not
-
but believe it on him
-
to justify it the ungodly
-
his faith is counted for righteousness
-
and let me just remind you
-
that in Romans chapter 4
Romans 4 chapter mention
-
he's also addressing
-
two men of the Old Testament
-
that believed by faith
-
Abraham and David, right?
-
The Bible says in Romans 4
-
that Abraham believed God
-
and it was counted into him for righteousness.
-
What is that? It's called faith alone
-
and of course it addresses
-
King David as well
-
and the fact that he described salvation
-
as being forgiven of past, present
-
and future sins.
-
Not only that
-
Ephesians 1 tells us
-
the Apostle Paul writing to the
-
Church of Ephesus
-
states in whom you also trusted
-
after that you heard the word of truth
-
the Gospel of your salvation
-
in whom also after that you believed
-
you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.
-
And we have Ephesians 2 verse 8 through 9.
-
Now he would look at those passages
-
and say yeah exactly see
-
he's teaching this faith alone thing
-
he's teaching this by grace
-
he's teaching all you have to believe
-
all you have to do is believe
-
but Jesus' message on salvation
-
is completely different.
-
He says you have to keep God's commands.
-
Now go to John chapter 3
John 3 chapter mention
-
if you would go to John chapter 3
John 3 chapter mention
-
and we're going to go to Mark 10 in just a bit
-
this Mark 10 is the
-
passage that he uses
-
to demonstrate that we have to keep
-
God's laws and commandments to be saved.
-
Now look folks the same guy will point to
-
Matthew, Mark and Luke
-
for passages on salvation
-
and to prove his form of salvation
-
because of the fact that
-
Matthew, Mark and Luke
-
have the term repentance
-
over and over again.
-
And we're for the word repentance
-
amen.
-
And he asserts that well when it says
-
repentance
-
repentance is equal to
-
repenting of your sin
-
but the phrase repent of your sin
-
does not exist in the Bible
-
it only exists in the mind of heretics
-
who oppose it into the scriptures right.
-
You'll see the term repentance all the time
-
it's a biblical term
-
it's a biblical concept
-
it's biblical for those who are already saved
-
but it's also biblical for those who are not saved.
-
The difference is repentance
-
in the context of salvation
-
means to change what you're believing in
-
to turn from what you're trusting in
-
and then place your faith in Jesus Christ.
-
It does not mean all across the board
-
repent of your sin
-
because if it did then we would have an issue
-
since God is recorded as being the one
-
who repents more than any person in the Bible
-
and God has no sin
-
and yes there are instances
-
in the Old Testament where you can point to
-
portions of scripture where the Bible commands
-
people to repent and it is to repent
-
of their sinful ways
-
but it's never in the context of salvation
-
you say what's the point
-
the point is that he goes to
-
Matthew, Mark, Luke in order to
-
substantiate this claim
-
to assert that the Bible tells us to repent
-
and he completely stays away
-
from the book of John
-
Now look folks if you ever want to explain salvation
-
and put the cookie on the bottom
-
shelf for someone
-
for them to plainly understand
-
go to the book of John
-
is it any coincidence that
-
when a missionary goes to a particular area
-
where the Bible does not exist
-
they first translate Romans
-
and the book of John
-
I'll tell you why because the book of John
-
is made, it's created
-
it's written in such a way
-
that it makes salvation very understandable
-
to the unregenerated
-
why because it uses this term over and over again
-
believe
-
Now look at John chapter 3 verse 14
-
Jesus speaking here says this
-
and as Moses lifted up the serpent
-
in the wilderness
-
even so must the Son of Man be lifted up
-
that whosoever
-
believeth in him should not perish
-
but have eternal life
-
funny how he just didn't mention that verse
-
verse 16
-
for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son
-
that whosoever believeth in him
-
should not perish but have everlasting life
-
back to back
-
in case you didn't get it the first time
-
he repeats it the second
-
in case you misinterpret the first time
-
he gives it to you the second
-
and what is it believe on the Lord Jesus Christ
-
you won't go to hell you will have eternal life
-
that's Jesus speaking
-
goes on the same verse 17
-
for God sent not ascended to the world to condemn the world
-
but that the world through him might be saved
-
he that believeth on him
-
is not condemned
-
but he that believeth not is condemned already
-
because he has not believed
-
in the name of the only begotten son of God
-
I think we all only have to believe
-
I think that's what
-
the same I think what the Bible
-
explicitly saying here is that we have to place
-
our faith in Jesus Christ which is exactly
-
what believe means
-
oh the devils believe
-
yeah but the devils
-
okay so what does that say about you
-
you ever thought about that
-
oh the devils believe so what does that say about you
-
that you can't even believe
-
complete
-
demons and devils
-
who are eternally destined
-
for hell are capable of believing
-
but you're not
-
think about that for a second
-
you know people constantly
-
want to criticize the importance of believing
-
on Jesus Christ why because
-
they're prideful and arrogant and they think they can
-
get themselves to eternal life
-
and to have him by their own works by their own merit
-
not by works of righteousness which we have done
-
but according to his mercy he saved us the Bible says
-
go with me
-
if you would to John chapter 5 verse 36
-
of John chapter 3 says
John 3 chapter mention
-
he that believeeth on the sun hath everlasting life
-
he that believeeth not the sun shall not see life
-
but the wrath of God abideth on him
-
I mean that's simple
-
that's so simple that a 5 year old could understand
-
that you believe
-
you go to heaven you don't believe
-
you go to hell very simple
-
and look folks this is saturated throughout the book of John
-
okay look at
-
John chapter 5 verse 24
-
verily verily I say unto you
-
he that heareth my word
-
and believeeth on him that sent me hath everlasting life
-
and shall not come into condemnation
-
but his past
-
from death unto
-
life go to John chapter 6
John 6 chapter mention
-
John chapter 6 let's just read a couple verses here
John 6 chapter mention
-
John chapter 6
John 6 chapter mention
-
and verse 40 it says here
-
and this is the will of him that sent me
-
that everyone would see at the sun
-
and believeeth on him may have
-
everlasting life
-
and I will raise him up at the last
-
day go to John chapter 11
John 11 chapter mention
-
John chapter 11
John 11 chapter mention
-
I'm going to continue reading in John chapter 6
John 6 chapter mention
-
and verse 47
-
Jesus says once again
-
verily verily I say unto you
-
he that believeeth on me hath everlasting life
-
so folks if the Bible is constantly
-
saying believe believe believe
-
you have everlasting life believe believe believe
-
and then you run into a passage that says
-
repent then you need to
-
interpret that passage on repentance
-
in light of these other passages
-
that talk about believing
-
if you have 10 passages in the Bible
-
that clearly say
-
you have to trust in Jesus Christ to be saved
-
and you have one obscure passage
-
that seems to deviate from the narrative
-
and it doesn't but you're interpreting it
-
as though it is
-
then you have to interpret that one
-
in light of the 10 passages to tell you have to believe
-
that's the proper way to interpret things
-
you don't interpret
-
the 10 based upon the one statement
-
you don't interpret
-
20 passages of scripture
-
that clearly communicate salvation
-
in light of one obscure passage
-
and let me just tell you something
-
false prophets love to go
-
to obscure passages in the Bible
-
to teach foundational doctrines of the Christian faith
-
Jehovah's Witnesses
-
when they talk about salvation they go to Ecclesiastes
-
what are you doing there bro
-
Ecclesiastes is not for salvation
-
it's for like depressed people amen
-
all is vain you know
-
you don't go to the book of Ecclesiastes
-
you don't go to the preacher in Ecclesiastes
-
to try to figure out how to be saved
-
when God has invested
-
so much into these
-
New Testament writers
-
that are not seen through a glass darkly
-
when it comes to salvation
-
that are clearly communicating it
-
and look I would even say
-
if you want to do a deep dive on salvation
-
you don't go to the Old Testament
-
you go to the New
-
because the New Testament
-
is the Old Testament revealed
-
the Old Testament
-
is the New Testament concealed
-
now obviously we know that these things
-
were written for our admonition upon whom
-
the ends of the world are come
-
the Old Testament is there to teach us things
-
but it has to be interpreted through
-
New Testament writings
-
why because the New Testament is the revelation
-
that Jesus Christ and the apostles
-
have given to us in order to interpret these things correctly
-
the point being here
-
is that the book of John
-
is saturated with clear statements
-
on how to be saved
-
and it uses this one word over and over again
-
believe
-
look at John 11 verse 25
-
it's one of the best passages
-
of scripture that communicates salvation here
-
you can highlight it, write it down
-
memorize it
-
verse 25 says Jesus said unto her
-
I am the resurrection and the life
-
he that believeth in me
-
though he were dead
-
yet shall he live
-
now what does he mean by that
-
he means that salvation not only justifies the soul
-
but in turn
-
in the future will also
-
resurrect the body
-
so even though someone is dead who previously believed
-
on Jesus Christ they will live again
-
it's called the resurrection
-
look at verse 26
-
and whosoever liveth and believeth in me
-
shall never die
-
believeth thou this
-
so he is saying those who have died in Christ
-
they will live again
-
but if you're living in you believing
-
you'll never die
-
now obviously the people who are listening to that physically die
-
but at that point
-
they go into category number one
-
category number one
-
is those who are dead but they believed
-
they will live again
-
what is it referring to? it's referring to the fact that salvation brings
-
everlasting life
-
not just of the soul but even of the body
-
as well and it's all contingent upon what?
-
believing on Jesus Christ
-
it sounds like
-
the apostle Paul and Jesus agree
-
if
-
the apostle Paul is saying
-
that we need to trust
-
that we need to believe
-
that we need to have faith
-
it sounds like it's in conjunction with Jesus is saying
-
in the book of John that we have to believe as well
-
and look folks
-
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John
-
these gospels
-
they essentially address the same events
-
but they are written and geared towards
-
different people groups
-
Matthew is geared towards the Jews
-
in Israel at large
-
you could read the book of Matthew
-
that's why it's so negative towards Jews
-
there's a ton of parables within the book of Matthew
-
towards Jews because it's communicating
-
Jesus Christ as being the king
-
whereas the book of John
-
isn't necessarily for Jews
-
it's for those all around the world
-
it's for Jews, Gentiles
-
it's for everyone and it's mainly
-
to communicate that Jesus Christ
-
is the son of God who comes from heaven
-
and is able to redeem you
-
through your faith in him
-
now go to Mark chapter 10
Mark 10 chapter mention
-
this is the supposed passage
-
that Aaron
-
Apke
-
claims
-
is in contradiction
-
of what the apostle Paul taught
-
and of course he's not going to go to the book of John
-
he's not going to go to John 3.16
-
and let me just tell you
-
you go to some unregenerated person in this world
-
and you ask them about
-
quoting Mark 10
-
I don't know what to say
-
Mark what?
-
when you talk about John 3.16
-
most people know what verse that is
-
I mean I can't tell you how many times
-
I've gone soul-winning I'm not going to door
-
and I quote John 3.16
-
and a lot of times people just finish the verse for me
-
even though they're not saved
-
why? because it's a popular verse
-
for a reason
-
it's one of the most popular verses
-
in the Bible
-
along with Genesis 1.1
-
and that's intentional
-
I believe God allowed John 3.16
-
to be a very popular verse
-
in this world
-
because God wants all men everywhere to believe
-
and
-
he's leaving himself with the witness
-
so nobody in this world can say
-
well I never heard the gospel
-
if you know John 3.16 you basically heard the gospel
-
because it's telling you all you have to do is believe
-
now obviously we want to be a little more extensive than that
-
we want to be thorough in our gospel presentation
-
I'm just saying John 3.16
-
is saturated within the culture
-
people know what it is
-
people know what it states
-
even if they quote a modern version of it or something
-
they know
-
somewhat of what it's stating there
-
and all you have to do is believe
-
now look at Mark 10 verse 17
-
this is the example that he gives here
-
it says in verse 17
-
and when he was gone forth into the way
-
there came one running and kneeled to him
-
and it asked him good master
-
what shall I do
-
that I may inherit eternal life
-
boom this is the checkmate right here
-
right
-
and Jesus said to him why call us down me good
-
there is none good but one that is God
-
thou knowest the commandments do not commit adultery
-
do not kill do not steal do not bear false witness
-
defraud not honor thy father
-
and mother
-
and he answered and said to him master
-
all these have I observed for my youth
-
up so first and foremost this guy
-
obviously did not observe
-
honesty
-
because no one is able to keep
-
these commandments perfectly right
-
there is only one perfect man
-
who has ever existed and that is Jesus Christ
-
everyone else even in the Old Testament
-
there is not a just man upon earth
-
that doeth good and sineth not
-
verse 21 then Jesus
-
beholding him loved him
-
and said unto him one thing
-
thou lackest go thy way
-
sell whatsoever thou hast
-
and give to the poor and
-
thou shalt have treasure in heaven
-
and come take up the cross and follow me
-
now notice he didn't say do this and you'll be saved
-
he said do this and you'll have
-
treasure in heaven
-
treasure is something that you earn right
-
it's not something that is freely given
-
to you you have to earn this
-
it's kind of like a wage that you get
-
for the things that you do and then he says
-
take up your cross and follow me
-
verse 22 and he was sad at that
-
saying and went away grieve for he had
-
great possession so
-
this is his text verse to prove
-
oh Jesus is teaching
-
that you have to keep the law
-
in order to be saved
-
well if that were true then why did
-
God only list like a few commandments
-
I mean is it only a few
-
that we have to keep
-
because he's asserting oh yeah you have to keep the law
-
Jesus said you have to keep these commandments
-
why didn't he go through all the commandments
-
because if that were true and we
-
obtain salvation through the observance of the law
-
then he would have to just quote the entire thing
-
not just a few
-
and in fact according to their standards
-
Jesus is cherry picking what commandments
-
we can keep and which ones we can disregard
-
but this is
-
not what he's teaching okay
-
what he's doing here is he's essentially stripping away
-
the self-righteousness of this person
-
and he's also revealing
-
what this person is actually
-
trusting in for salvation
-
now let me prove that to you look at verse
-
number 23
-
Jesus looked round about
-
and said to his disciples
-
how hardly shall they that have
-
riches enter into the kingdom
-
of God
-
so he's saying here it's likely
-
that people who are wealthy in this
-
world they're not going to get
-
saved okay so
-
we're all in good hands in this regard
-
according to that standard okay
-
but he's saying you know it's not
-
you know it's just going to be really difficult
-
and hard for people who are
-
wealthy they're rich to enter
-
into the kingdom of God
-
and look at the response of the disciples verse
-
24 and the disciples were astonished
-
at his words
-
they're like what and I don't know why they're
-
astonished they're not rich you know
-
but Jesus answer it
-
again and say them to them
-
children
-
how hard is it for them that
-
trust in riches
-
to enter into the kingdom
-
of God so now he's bringing
-
clarification
-
to this entire dissertation that he had
-
with the rich young ruler
-
what was the problem with the rich young ruler
-
he's trusting in his riches
-
for salvation
-
why because people who are wealthy
-
people who have riches
-
people who have great possessions
-
feel like they don't need anything
-
they feel like well I have everything
-
I don't need religion
-
I don't need this that and the other
-
and this is why according to the Bible
-
it's better for us to go
-
to the poor to give the gospel because
-
they're far more receptive
-
that's why you're here amen
-
you're here listening to the word of God
-
you know it's better to go to the
-
brokies of this world
-
give them the gospel because they're
-
actually receptive towards the gospel
-
I like going to the ghettos to
-
go preach the gospel
-
I like going to section A housing to
-
go preach the gospel
-
why because people are really receptive
-
there you couple that with gang violets
-
oh man it's a super receptive
-
area
-
because they're near death all the time
-
they don't got nothing they're broke
-
they are near death and they
-
are very receptive
-
whereas go ahead and go to
-
these rich neighborhoods here
-
in orange county and find
-
some really receptive people in the
-
gated communities if you could even get in
-
some of the most
-
unreceptive people to the gospel are
-
those who have a lot of money
-
because they don't feel like they need God
-
I mean if riches brought
-
people towards God then what's
-
with all these billionaires why they're so evil and wicked
-
you know I'll tell you why
-
because of the fact that money corrupts
-
the love of money is the root
-
of all evil and
-
so we see here that what Jesus Christ
-
is teaching is not that you have to keep
-
the commandments to be saved he's using
-
that in order to demonstrate
-
that he has no self-right
-
he has no righteousness in and of himself
-
and then the man begins to justify
-
himself and of course Jesus because he's
-
God knows what he's putting his faith
-
in for salvation for eternal life
-
and that's why he tells him to go sell his possessions
-
he goes away grieve because
-
he has great many possessions and then
-
Jesus uses him as an illustration and says
-
see this guy's trusting in his riches
-
that's why he's not going to enter into the kingdom of God
-
let's read on here it says
-
in verse 25 it is easier
-
for a camel to go to the eye of a needle
-
than for a rich man
-
to enter into the kingdom of God
-
and they were astonished out of measure
-
saying among themselves who then can be saved
-
Jesus looking upon them saved
-
with men it is impossible
-
but not with God for with God
-
all things are possible so the kingdom of God
-
isn't closed to
-
the rich man right
-
people of wealth can enter into the kingdom of God
-
they just need to recognize
-
that you know having food and raiment
-
let us therewith be content
-
and recognize that riches can only do so much
-
yes money answer with all things
-
in general that's what Ecclesiastes teaches us
-
but you know what it cannot redeem your soul
-
okay
-
but here's the thing folks you know we have to
-
explain what this passage means
-
because it is an obscure passage of scripture
-
so how do we do it
-
do we just stick to this portion of scripture
-
in order to understand salvation
-
no we need to read it in light of the other
-
portions of scripture in the book of John
-
to properly interpret this
-
because Mark is not contradicting John
-
John is in contradicting
-
John is in contradicting Mark, Matthew
-
or Luke they're both saying the same thing
-
but they're emphasizing different aspects
-
of Jesus' teaching okay
-
and so wrong portion
-
of scripture to go to
-
go with me if you would to Acts 21
-
Acts chapter 21 and then we're going to go to
Acts 21 chapter mention
-
Ephesians chapter 2
Ephesians 2 chapter mention
-
Ephesians chapter 2
Ephesians 2 chapter mention
-
the book of John
-
demonstrates
-
that Jesus Christ taught
-
that you have to believe on him to be saved
-
now you say what does that guy do with these passages
-
like the book of John that clearly say that
-
well
-
what this guy does is that he'll claim
-
that the gospels
-
are written retroactively and therefore were influenced
-
by the apostle Paul's gospel
-
and that's why these have the term
-
like believe and grace
-
and such things like that
-
so and it's just like
-
but aren't you saying that we're supposed to disregard
-
Paul and just
-
only go with the gospels
-
so how does that work how do we only go with the gospels
-
but then you claim that the gospels
-
are being influenced by the apostle Paul
-
it sounds like you're just a heretic
-
you sound retarded
-
okay because
-
at the end of the day here's a great way to explain it
-
it's just all God's word
-
okay
-
and so
-
Jesus and Paul
-
preach the same gospel
-
and again he brings this accusation
-
oh the apostle Paul said in Galatians one
-
that if someone else preaches another gospel
-
let him be a curse he's basically calling Jesus a curse
-
no because Jesus
-
preaches the same gospel as he does
-
they both preach the same gospel
-
John the Baptist preach the same gospel
-
and in fact John the Baptist talked about the baptism
-
of repentance in the book of Acts
-
the apostle Paul renders that as
-
believing on Jesus Christ because that's exactly
-
what it is that's exactly what it means
-
okay accusation number
-
one that Paul taught
-
a different salvation than Jesus
-
accusation number two
-
Paul abolished the law
-
that Jesus stated he
-
would not abolish Jesus said
-
he did not come to destroy the law whereas Paul
-
supposedly taught Christians to completely
-
abandon it okay so
-
he claims that Paul
-
hates the law he's
-
seeking to abolish the law
-
and and you know he hates
-
the law whereas Jesus Christ elevated
-
the law now you're in Acts 21
-
let me read to you from Acts 18
-
these are some of the
-
same accusations that people were making
-
in the book of Acts verse 12
-
of Acts 18 says and when Galileo
-
was the deputy of Akhaya
-
the Jews made insurrection one
-
accord with one accord against Paul
-
and brought him to the judgment seat
-
saying this fellow
-
persuadeth men
-
to worship God listen to this
-
contrary to the law
-
so this is already existed even in the book of Acts
-
a bunch of Jews already saying
-
that Paul hey he's trying to get people to disobey
-
Moses trying to get people to disobey
-
the law okay
-
and by the way the Jews were doing this towards Jesus
-
look at Acts 21
-
if you would Acts 21 verse 26
-
then Paul took the
-
men verse 26 and the next
-
day purifying himself with them entered into the
-
temple to signify the
-
accomplishment of the days of purification
-
until that an offering should be offered for
-
every one of them
-
and when the seven days were almost ended
-
the Jews which were of Asia
-
when they saw him in the temple stirred up
-
all the people and laid hands on him
-
crying out men of Israel
-
help this is the man
-
that teacheth all men
-
everywhere against the people
-
and the law and this
-
place and further brought Greeks
-
also into the temple and have polluted
-
this holy place
-
now the funny thing about this is that
-
they're claiming the apostle Paul is teaching contrary to the law
-
yet in verse 26 we have the apostle
-
Paul observing the law
-
how is that he's purifying himself
-
he's going into the temple but they're like
-
oh no he's teaching people contrary to the law
-
it's just a slanderous report
-
and this slander has existed
-
for thousands of years it's still around today
-
go to Ephesians 2 if you would
-
Ephesians chapter 2
Ephesians 2 chapter mention
-
while you're turning there
-
I'm going to read to you from Matthew chapter 7
Matthew 7 chapter mention
-
Matthew chapter 5 verse 17
-
excuse me says this
-
think not that I come to destroy the law
-
or the prophets
-
I am not come to destroy
-
but to fulfill
-
now what does this mean when he says that he came not to destroy
-
the law
-
you see Jesus Christ
-
kept all of the law perfectly right
-
the moral law perfectly
-
never sinned once kept all of God's command
-
that's why he's righteous
-
that's why he's able to impute his righteousness
-
unto us
-
through faith in him because he is
-
the perfect son of God
-
who observed these things perfectly regarding the moral law
-
now let me explain some also regarding
-
the law
-
we refer to God's moral law as the
-
mosaic law or the law
-
but let me just remind you that God's law
-
transcends the mosaic law
-
it was established in
-
stone
-
and imposed upon the people
-
at Mount Sinai
-
after the deliverance from Egypt
-
let me just remind you that God's moral law
-
existed prior to that
-
why because God's moral law
-
is synonymous with his divine
-
nature he's eternal
-
in other words murder has always been
-
wrong right we see this
-
in Genesis 9 verse 6
-
where God sanctions the death penalty
-
for those who take life
-
okay
-
and side note here I'm for the public execution
-
of that one dude
-
okay I think that's
-
completely and by the way that's
-
biblical if you're against
-
public executions and you believe the bible
-
you must not read the bible
-
every execution
-
under the mosaic law was public
-
brought him into the center and just stone him
-
with stones and you say oh man
-
that's just inhumane oh you go ahead and explain
-
to me what's a humane way to kill someone
-
give me a humane way to take someone's life
-
who's worthy of death
-
slap them to death
-
what's the humane way to do it
-
there is no humane way to do it
-
okay firing squad is
-
in fact you know I would prefer
-
a firing squad over lethal injection
-
any day wasn't there some lady
-
who got the lethal injection and it failed
-
that sucks
-
it failed she lived
-
and she's like in all this pain firing squad
-
is just quick
-
but it's inhumane
-
yeah what that do
-
was inhumane too
-
I remember
-
you know visiting my family
-
in Guatemala when I was a kid
-
my mom took me to go see my family
-
in Guatemala I think I was like 8
-
10 years old or something like that and
-
um
-
one of my aunts was like hey I want you
-
to come and see this real quick
-
you know I'm just like what
-
you know and we're at the TV
-
and like these three men are about to be publicly executed
-
I'm like they're going to kill them
-
it's like yeah why because they
-
violently rape the little girl
-
and so they're going to be publicly executed
-
and they did it on live television
-
I was like oh wow
-
now you say what
-
why do you think that's okay to do
-
I'll tell you why first and foremost
-
because it's right to bring justice
-
number one
-
for the victims
-
but number two
-
it's a deterrent
-
you say what do you mean
-
you know when someone who's tempted
-
to murder
-
sees a public execution of a person
-
who murdered you're like
-
check out
-
I'm going to do something else
-
I don't think I want to die
-
death is a motivator
-
okay
-
and I'm not just talking about hearing about death just seeing it
-
it's a motivator
-
now obviously you know that's going to be gruesome
-
but you know what it operates as a deterrent
-
okay
-
oh you're just going to enable people
-
no that's actually
-
according to the bible
-
the bible specifically says when judgment against an evil work
-
is not carried out speedily
-
the hearts of the sons of men is fully setting them
-
to do evil
-
if you don't publicly execute people
-
for their capital crimes
-
it's going to enable other people
-
to want to carry out those same crimes
-
because they think well they didn't get punished
-
I'm not going to get punished
-
so that's just a side note there
-
you got that for free
-
when Jesus said he came not to destroy the law
-
obviously he's not coming to break the law
-
okay
-
regardless of what furtick said
-
furtick that false prophet got up and said
-
that Jesus broke the law for love
-
that's not even poetic it sounds stupid
-
you didn't break the law if you broke the law then he's not God
-
okay
-
he came out to destroy the law or the prophets
-
in other words he's not coming
-
to contradict
-
he's not coming to destroy
-
what the Old Testament was teaching
-
why because he is the fulfillment
-
of the law
-
right beginning at
-
Moses and all the prophets he expounded
-
unto them and all the scriptures the things concerning himself
-
why because the Old Testament
-
law and prophets are all about
-
pointing towards Christ
-
the apostle Paul
-
says that the law was our school master
-
to bring us unto Christ
-
Jesus said
-
for had you believed Moses you would have believed me
-
for he wrote of me
-
over and over again we see that the Old
-
Testament even dating back
-
to Abraham all pointed
-
towards Christ Jesus told the Pharisees
-
you know Abraham saw my day and was
-
glad
-
everyone pointed towards Jesus Christ
-
the Old Testament is all about Jesus
-
so he fulfilled the law in a practical
-
way where he actually kept the law
-
the moral law but he also
-
fulfilled the law by what
-
by being the culmination
-
of those shadow of things to come
-
so we can say he
-
fulfilled the law by being the lamb
-
of God who should take away the sins of the world
-
just as the lambs
-
the animals the goats of the Old Testament
-
were sacrificed in order to atone for the sins
-
of the nation in like manner that he
-
fulfilled that
-
so he didn't come to destroy the law he came to fulfill
-
now is part of the law
-
done away with of course it is
-
of course it is and let me explain to
-
you why that is okay not
-
using Paul's arguments in
-
Hebrews chapter 8 and 9 though that's a great
Hebrews 8 chapter mention
-
passage to use just using Jesus alone
-
the new covenant
-
requires the death of
-
the testator and thereby
-
brings the end of an Old Covenant
-
that's how covenants work
-
a lot of people don't even understand how covenants operate
-
that Old Covenant
-
that Old System
-
had to have a conclusion
-
once Jesus Christ died because once Jesus Christ
-
died he's bringing about
-
a New Testament
-
hold on a second that's from the Apostle Paul
-
no that's from Jesus at the Lord's Supper
-
when he talked about the New Testament
-
that he's bringing in
-
a New Testament a New Covenant
-
that's exactly how it works he's the mediator
-
of a better covenant established upon
-
better promises
-
so yeah he didn't come to destroy
-
animal sacrifices
-
that's a wrong way to assess what he did
-
he came to fulfill it
-
and you know people often bring this up like
-
well the gospels
-
shows Jesus
-
obeying the law of Moses
-
yeah cause he's still under the Old Testament
-
during his life
-
so of course he's going to obey the law
-
of course he is
-
he's
-
offering the gifts to Moses
-
he's encouraging people to offer the gifts
-
unto Moses he
-
his mom was participating
-
in the purification part
-
he is you know doing the animal sacrifices
-
and so forth but at his death
-
that stuff is done away with cause he is the culmination
-
of those things to come
-
look at Ephesians 2 verse 14
-
it says for he referring to Jesus
-
is our peace
-
who hath made both one
-
and hath broken down the middle wall of partition
-
between us having
-
abolished in his flesh
-
the enmity
-
even the law of commandments contained
-
in ordinances for to make it himself
-
of twain one new man
-
so making peace
-
so what did Paul actually abolish
-
he didn't abolish the law
-
he actually abolished
-
the enmity between
-
Gentiles and Jews
-
that
-
was separated by the ordinances
-
ok so how can Paul
-
destroy the law
-
how can he abolish the law
-
if the law is already done away with by the time he came into the game
-
he was one
-
born out of due time remember
-
by that time this was already instituted
-
what he is abolishing what according to the apostle Paul
-
Jesus abolished
-
the enmity
-
the division between Jew and Gentile
-
that was essentially
-
separating us from
-
the commonwealth of Israel
-
the promises of the covenant
-
through the Old Testament law
-
now go to John chapter
-
I'm sorry not John 4 go to Colossians
Colossians 2 chapter mention
-
chapter 2
-
and then we're going to go to
-
Romans chapter 3 again
Romans 3 chapter mention
-
go to Colossians chapter 2
Colossians 2 chapter mention
-
and look you know the Old Testament
-
specifically required
-
specifically required for people to go to Jerusalem
-
to worship God
-
to go to the temple to worship God
-
you had to do it
-
Jesus went to the temple to worship God because of the fact that
-
that's what the Old Testament law required
-
but didn't he say in John 4 that the day will come
-
where you're not going to worship in this mountain
-
or in Jerusalem
-
but they that worship him will worship him in spirit
-
and in truth and isn't he saying
-
that the day will come even if it had not yet come
-
why because he hadn't died yet
-
so he's specifically saying like right now
-
we have to worship in Jerusalem for sure
-
but the day will come
-
where you don't have to say in this mountain or in that
-
because anybody who worships him
-
can worship him in spirit and in truth
-
why because according to the New Testament
-
we believers are the temple of God
-
we're bought with the price
-
and so forth that's what the Bible actually teaches
-
Colossians chapter 2
Colossians 2 chapter mention
-
and verse 14
-
it says here
-
blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us
-
who's blotting it out, Paul or Jesus
-
Jesus
-
blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us
-
which was contrary to us
-
and took it out of the way
-
nailing it to his cross
-
and having spoiled principalities and powers
-
he made a show of them openly
-
triumphing over them in it
-
let no man therefore
-
listen to this, judge you in
-
meat or in drink
-
or in respect of in the holy day
-
or of the new moon or of the Sabbath
-
days which are a shadow of things to come
-
but the bodies of Christ
-
so this is telling us that
-
we don't have to observe these Old Testament
-
ordinances
-
now a lot of these Judaizers will tell you
-
no you do have to observe them
-
he's saying that like
-
don't let people tell you not to
-
abstain from these particular meats
-
yeah he's telling Colossians
-
Greeks
-
who are part of a New Testament church to do that
-
no, he's telling them hey
-
don't let these Judaizers come in and tell you
-
that you can't have shellfish
-
now I'm not a fan of shellfish anymore
-
okay, sorry
-
the only time I would be a fan of it is if you fry it
-
but I had a bad experience
-
a couple weeks ago
-
with shellfish
-
and it was good for the cut though
-
it's good for weight loss for sure
-
you know
-
it definitely accelerates the weight loss
-
I will say that
-
but here's the thing is that
-
I'm not going to judge you if you want to eat shellfish though
-
because that would be contrary to the Bible
-
and the Bible says not to
-
allow people to judge you regarding
-
these observances of the Sabbath day either
-
why? Verse 17
-
which are a shadow of things to come
-
but the bodies of Christ
-
meaning that these things pictured
-
Jesus Christ
-
in fact the New Testament according to Hebrews chapter 4
Hebrews 4 chapter mention
-
tells us that Jesus Christ is
-
our Sabbath
-
why? because we rest in him for our salvation
-
go to Romans if you would
-
Romans chapter 3
Romans 3 chapter mention
-
now what is the accusation again?
-
oh, Paul abolished the law
-
he's trying to
-
destroy the law
-
he wants people to hate the law
-
is that true? look at Romans 3 verse 31
-
and then we're going to go to Romans 7
-
Romans 3
-
31 says do we then make void
-
the law through faith? God forbid
-
yay, we establish
-
the law go to Romans 7
-
Romans chapter 7
Romans 7 chapter mention
-
and verse 7 here
-
it says what shall we say then? is the law
-
sin? God forbid
-
doesn't sound like Paul hates the law
-
God forbid, nay, I had not known sin
-
but by the law
-
for I had not known lust except the law had said
-
thou shalt not covet
-
it sounds like he's exalting the law
-
he's esteeming the law
-
and he's finding value in the law
-
because the law taught him to use the sinner
-
look at verse 12 if you would
-
Romans 7 and verse 12
-
wherefore the law is
-
holy and the commandment
-
holy and just
-
and good
-
it sounds like Paul is a fan of the law
-
oh no, he came to abolish the law
-
then why does this verse exist
-
where he's talking about how it's holy
-
it's just, it's good
-
it's righteous, why? because it is
-
and you know at the end of the day
-
the law of God plays its role
-
in someone's salvation
-
it's just not in its observance
-
the role that it plays is in helping
-
you to recognize that you can't save
-
yourself because you're not perfect
-
it's supposed to strip away your
-
righteousness and help you to realize
-
I can't save myself, I need to go to
-
the foot of the cross to be saved
-
okay
-
go to 1 Corinthians 8 if you would
-
1 Corinthians 8
-
this guy's a heretic
-
and you know
-
this bulls my blood when I see stuff like this
-
because it's just
-
obviously it's retarded
-
obviously it's super gay
-
and you're just like how can people even like
-
listen to this
-
and I was telling this to my wife
-
last night when I was preaching to her
-
I was saying you know
-
a lot of times I do get on false prophets
-
because of the fact that you know rightfully so
-
because they're evil and wicked
-
and they're perverted to the gospel
-
but you know what like the people who fall them are just like
-
super evil too though
-
if you think about it
-
I guess the false prophet can't take all the credit
-
for the retardation and evilness
-
because at the end of the day
-
the people who fall them are absolute idiots too
-
because you think they're just like how can someone be deceived
-
exactly
-
like how can you be there
-
how can you agree with this heresy
-
how can you agree with this blasphemy
-
and people are just eating up
-
with fork and spoon
-
they agree with that they want to propagate it
-
but it's because they're also evil
-
they're godless people as well
-
and at the end of the day they hate the truth
-
that's what it is
-
accusation number three
-
Paul contradicted Jesus and James concerning
-
meat
-
James was allegedly a vegetarian
-
bro
-
Paul supposedly criticized James
-
when he described those who
-
eat herbs as weak
-
so he views
-
Romans 14 as a dis
-
towards James
-
and then he says that Paul permitted
-
eating meat to idols
-
the sacrifice into idols
-
contrary to the Jerusalem apostles
-
okay
-
so you know obviously we know
-
that this guy is a vegetarian
-
okay that's why he's even bringing this up
-
to begin with
-
let me just tell you something
-
whenever there's a person
-
who claims to be a spiritual leader
-
but they're a vegetarian I automatically write them off
-
not interested
-
not interested
-
you know
-
you say why
-
because the bible does say that he that eats herbs
-
is weak
-
and it just demonstrates
-
spiritual immaturity
-
I'm not saying they're unsaved
-
because you know sometimes people do that
-
for whatever reason they just
-
I don't really know why actually
-
I'm just trying to be nice
-
people might have legitimate reasons
-
why I wouldn't agree with it
-
okay
-
I think you can get all those benefits from meat
-
alright
-
but Romans 14 tells us
-
that you know we just got to be nice to them
-
because they're kind to them because you know
-
they're just weak in the faith and so forth
-
but if you're a spiritual leader and you're a vegetarian
-
I automatically write you off
-
people all the time
-
they're always telling me oh you got to look into Hitler
-
Hitler
-
this and Hitler that
-
I'm like well first of all he lost
-
yeah
-
we're just going to ignore that
-
didn't bro lose
-
right
-
first of all he lost
-
right
-
so then you know someone gave me
-
my conf to read
-
and then you know the first couple
-
pages talk about he's a vegetarian
-
and I was like
-
this guy is a vegetarian
-
do his followers know this
-
he's a vegetarian and I'm thinking maybe
-
it's for health reasons no it's because
-
he thought he thought it to be inhumane
-
to do anything to any animal
-
in order to have meat
-
super gay
-
absolutely gay
-
okay for you Hitler lovers out there
-
okay
-
you know a little mustache don't do nothing now
-
yeah but he was right on the Jews
-
yeah but he's agreeing with the Jews here
-
to be a vegetarian
-
or what not
-
you know I'm not interested
-
when there's a leader who says they're a vegetarian
-
I'm not interested now
-
this guy's a vegetarian
-
but he's claiming that James
-
was a vegetarian
-
now look folks you know he quotes
-
Eusebius and says Eusebius said that he was
-
a vegetarian
-
but sorry that's not authoritative for me
-
go reference my sermon last week about church fathers
-
I'm not really interested
-
in that because people can make rumors
-
up they can say stuff and
-
make all kinds of things up about us
-
and you know people just believe it
-
so the Bible doesn't
-
seem to indicate that at all
-
okay and of course
-
by proxy he's asserting that Jesus Christ was
-
also a vegetarian
-
and he claims that Jesus Christ was actually
-
against the animal sacrifices because
-
of that it's like what in the world
-
now folks Jesus Christ
-
ate meat
-
like well give me
-
a book chapter
-
verse in the Bible where he ate meat
-
we don't have to because we know that he
-
observed Old Testament
-
laws that required
-
Israelites
-
to offer animal sacrifices
-
burnt offerings and part of that
-
ordinance was for a person to participate
-
in eating
-
the burnt offering
-
so they would go
-
have a little meal with the priest there
-
and then they would eat as well
-
so that's what he's doing and you know what because he kept the whole law
-
he came out to abolish the law
-
he came out to destroy the law
-
he came to fulfill it and then guess what
-
he's also participating in eating
-
meat as well
-
and he's manly
-
he's a manly man
-
so he can't be vegetarian
-
and so very important there
-
now look at 1 Corinthians 813
-
says wherefore if meat make my brother to offend
-
I will eat no flesh
-
while the world standeth
-
lest I make my brother to offend
-
so this is literally contradicting what that guy is saying
-
that Paul's like oh he's encouraging
-
Paul
-
Paul's encouraging his listeners and his recipients
-
to eat things sacrifice and titles
-
not true
-
not true at all
-
because look 1 Corinthians 8 is teaching
-
that whatever sold in the shambles
-
eat asking questions for nothing for
-
constancy
-
and what he's saying there is this
-
the shambles might be like some sort of meat market
-
and if you're there
-
with a newer born Christian
-
and you're going there
-
and you're like oh let me get this ribeye real quick
-
or something
-
and the guy sees like oh I think this is
-
this is meat that was once
-
offered unto idols if he knows that
-
he's saying don't buy it because you don't want it to
-
foul his conscience
-
you don't want to cause him to stumble
-
but it would be completely justifiable for you to
-
purchase that and eat it because
-
the idol is nothing
-
the earth is the lords and the fullness they're of
-
okay
-
but he specifically says but if it makes my brother to offend
-
that I'm not going to eat it
-
now what does he mean when he says
-
eat things sacrifice unto idols
-
eating that which is once
-
offered unto idols what is he referring to
-
he's actually prohibiting people
-
to eat things
-
to participate in rituals
-
where they eat meat and worship false gods
-
go to 1 Corinthians 10
-
1 Corinthians chapter 10 if you would
1 Corinthians 10 chapter mention
-
it says in verse 16
-
the cup of blessing which we bless
-
is it not the communion of the blood of Christ
-
the bread which we break
-
is it not the communion of the body of Christ
-
for we being many are one
-
bread and one body
-
for we are all partakers of that one bread
-
behold Israel after the flesh
-
are not they which eat of the sacrifices
-
partakers of the altar
-
so he's saying when someone eats at the altar
-
they're participating
-
in the worship of God
-
in the worship of that deity
-
when they're eating
-
and they're coupling that with the altar
-
okay
-
he says in verse 19
-
what say I then that the idol is anything
-
or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is anything
-
but I say
-
that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice
-
they sacrifice to devils
-
and not to God
-
and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils
-
ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord
-
and the cup of devils
-
ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table
-
and of the table of devils
-
now
-
when he says the Lord's table he's referring to the Lord's supper
-
some referring to the table that belongs to the Lord
-
he's referring just another way of describing
-
observing the Lord's supper
-
so he's saying he's telling the Corinthians
-
hey you can't come here
-
and observe the Lord's supper
-
and then also participate
-
in these pagan worships
-
and ordinances and rituals
-
and just because you want to eat their food as well
-
you understand
-
it's not right for you to go to the Roman Catholic church
-
and eat the wafer just because you're hungry
-
because now you're participating
-
in that ordinance
-
by eating
-
and this is exactly what Jezebel was doing in Revelation 2
-
she's causing people
-
to stumble teaching them to fornicate
-
and to eat things sacrificed into idols
-
those are often two elements
-
that pagans would
-
integrate in their worship of false gods
-
you can go all the way back to the book of Numbers
-
with Baal
-
Baal could not curse the children of Israel
-
but then what did he do?
-
he caused the Moabites to tempt the children of Israel
-
to eat things sacrificed into idols
-
and to fornicate
-
because fornication
-
according to the pagans and heathens
-
is often coupled with their religious observance
-
of false gods
-
so what this is teaching here is not teaching
-
oh don't eat what's served in the shambles
-
eat it because who cares
-
what they were using that for
-
just don't be participating in those rituals
-
is what he's saying
-
but at the end of the day the apostle Paul
-
is not telling people hey
-
go ahead eat things sacrificed into idols
-
go into the temple
-
and observe
-
the worship
-
of Diana
-
of Ephesus and all this
-
he's not sanctioned in that at all
-
that's a railing accusation go to 1 Corinthians 9
-
and we're pretty much finished here
-
there's about
-
like 7 more accusations I'm going to cover tonight
-
but this is number 4
-
and that is that Paul admits to lying
-
to spread his gospel
-
so he's just like
-
I can't believe you guys follow Paul
-
you know he lied
-
he admitted to lying
-
to people
-
in order to spread his gospel
-
Paul supposedly confessed
-
to dishonesty when he said
-
he became all things to all men
-
now let's read it here
-
verse 18 of chapter 9
-
we'll read the context here
-
says what is my reward then
-
barely that when I preach the gospel
-
I may make the gospel of Christ
-
without charge that I may abuse
-
not my power in the gospel
-
for though I be free from all men
-
yet have I made myself servant unto all
-
that I might gain the more
-
so obviously the context here
-
is that the apostle Paul is
-
willing to relinquish some of his
-
rights in order
-
to be able to reach people
-
that's why he says I'm a servant to all
-
that I may gain the more
-
he's willing to subjugate himself
-
humble himself in order to reach people
-
for Christ
-
verse 20 says unto the Jews
-
I became as a Jew
-
that I may gain the Jews
-
now what does that mean
-
it doesn't mean he's throwing on a yarmulke
-
it doesn't mean he's throwing
-
on a prayer shawl
-
and he goes and worships Baal
-
and he bombs a school
-
you know
-
it doesn't mean he just does what Jews do
-
you understand what I'm saying
-
it doesn't mean he
-
heads up a pornography industry
-
now he's a part of a holiday
-
when he says when I became as a Jew
-
he's basically saying like
-
I'm gonna go ahead and win Jews according to
-
the Old Testament scriptures
-
I will meet them
-
where they're at this is basically
-
him going where to the synagogues
-
as we see in the book of Acts
-
in order to discuss the Old Testament scriptures
-
of Moses and how they point to Christ
-
so unto the Jew I became
-
as a Jew to them that are under the law
-
as under the law
-
that I may gain them that are under the law
-
so in other words you know if someone is a strict observer
-
of the Old Testament laws
-
then he's gonna go ahead and use those
-
Old Testament laws to Torah
-
in order to try to reach them
-
and again this is
-
what he's quoting
-
this Aaron guy this is what he's quoting
-
okay and I'm watching this I'm like
-
okay I could see where he's going with this
-
he's claiming that he's lying that he's being dishonest
-
but then he quotes verse 21
-
and let me read it how he quoted it
-
okay let's read it but I'm gonna read it
-
how he quoted it to them that are without law
-
as without law that I might
-
gain them that are without law
-
that's how he read it
-
and I'm like hold on I'm gonna rewind
-
that real quick let me just double tap
-
ten speed back real quick
-
did I miss something here
-
to them that are without law as without law
-
that I may gain them that are without law
-
oh you missed a chunk there buddy
-
because you say he's like he's willing to lie
-
he's willing to be dishonest
-
he's willing to just you know
-
say whatever needs to be said
-
in order to win people to Christ
-
no actually it says to them that are without law
-
as without law not being without law
-
to God
-
but under the law of Christ
-
so in other words you know when he's reaching out
-
to the Gentiles he's not having a beer with them
-
he's not like oh you guys got some
-
you know party going on
-
revelings yeah let's do it
-
you know oh I'm down
-
I'm cool
-
you know I can
-
do a little drugs I can
-
take some hallucinogens I can participate
-
in your partings and everything because I'm just
-
trying to win no because he says
-
I'm still under law to God
-
so he's not gonna compromise
-
his biblical convictions
-
in order to reach people for Christ
-
right and the way we don't apply that today
-
is you know if you want to win your friend
-
don't meet him at the bar
-
in order to do so
-
you know well the only way he's willing to meet
-
with me half ways if I like you know
-
go with him to a bar
-
and we dream together no because at that point
-
you're not you're placing yourself
-
out from under the law of God and under Christ
-
really well yeah but didn't Jesus
-
sit with sinners of course
-
he sat with publicans and sinners
-
and not a single instance that he sin
-
and in fact
-
when he sat with sinners and the publicans
-
and yet even the Pharisees he's rebuking them
-
and I guarantee
-
you're not rebuking your buddy
-
or whatever when you're both are smoking pot
-
you know it's godless to do this
-
we need to make sure that when we
-
reach people for Christ we do it on Christ terms
-
okay
-
you know we need to make sure we meet them where
-
they're at yes but
-
not to the extent that we sin
-
against the Lord in order to do so
-
okay
-
so he's not lying he's basically saying like
-
and we have an example of this
-
of how he did this in Acts chapter 17
Acts 17 chapter mention
-
and Mars Hill
-
he went to Mars Hill and he's just like
-
you have a monument here to the
-
unknown God and then he began to
-
preach unto them Christ
-
so he used
-
their monument
-
praying to the unknown God
-
seeking the unknown God and he basically said
-
hey that's Jesus is what he's saying
-
okay
-
he says verse 22 to the week became
-
I as weak that I may gain the weak I am made
-
all things to all men that I might
-
by all means save some
-
and this I do
-
for the gospel's sake that I might
-
be partaker thereof with
-
you
-
what's the point here the point is go to
-
Acts 20 will be the last passage
-
promise
-
point is Paul was not lying
-
he wasn't being dishonest this guy's lying
-
he's a major liar
-
Paul is basically willing
-
and look he's the one responsible for
-
starting all these churches he had to be all things
-
to all men and not a single
-
instance in the book of Acts that we see him
-
sinning reaching Gentiles
-
we don't see him committing grievous sins
-
worshiping false gods
-
I mean even when they're claiming that he's
-
Jupiter and in these false gods
-
he's like rebuking them for that
-
he's stopping them he's not like oh yeah
-
I am actually it's funny you said that
-
you know no he's stopping them
-
because all things to all men
-
has boundaries my friends
-
we need to make sure we don't sin against the Lord
-
when we reach others for Christ
-
Acts chapter 20 and read down let's
Acts 20 chapter mention
-
skip down to verse 29 it says for I
-
know this that after my departing
-
shall grievous wolves enter in among
-
you not sparing the flock
-
also of your own self shall
-
men arise speaking perverse
-
things to draw away disciples
-
after them what is he talking about
-
these people who are discrediting him
-
people who are simply
-
trying to discredit the apostle
-
Paul and you know
-
at the end of the day it is an
-
attack on Christ because Christ
-
is the one Jesus is the one who
-
sent them out he's the one who selected
-
him he's the one that ordained him
-
he's the one to reveal themselves to him
-
and he's the one that inspired him to write
-
these writings and so
-
folks don't be deceived by
-
these false prophets and
-
don't allow yourself to be stumped by them either
-
just because they have great
-
swelling words of vanity
-
once you hear astral projection
-
oh that's all you had to say
-
once you hear vegetarianism
-
that's all you had to say
-
once you hear that Jesus Christ is not
-
the Son of God
-
that's all you had to say
-
I'm out
-
don't be a child
-
tossed to and fro carried about
-
with every wind of doctrine let's pray
-
thank you so much for your word
-
thank you for the apostle Paul
-
I pray that you help us Lord as your people
-
to recognize that false prophets abound
-
especially in these last days
-
we know that the spirit speak at the expressly
-
then a lot of times some shall depart
-
from the faith giving heed to seducing spirits
-
and doctrines of devils
-
and so I pray that as your people you would help us
-
to give attendance to reading to excitation
-
to doctrine that we'd be able to save
-
those that hear us and ourselves
-
from heresy we love you we thank you
