  1. I'm going to read a verse of Scripture. So if

  2. you have your Bible, if you have your app, we're

  3. going to just go there real quickly to Proverbs

  4. 18 .10. So this would have been a good Sunday

  5. to have your Bible. Or have it on your app because

  6. there's no screens today. Normally we're in the

  7. other building. But today, if you don't have

  8. one, you can share with your neighbor. Proverbs

  9. 18 .10. Proverbs 18 .10. One verse of scripture

  10. there should be hard to find. Say amen when you

  11. get it, somebody. Amen. All right. Proverbs 18

  12. .10. It reads this way. The name of the Lord.

  13. Someone say the name of the Lord. The name of

  14. the Lord. The name of the Lord is a strong tower.

  15. The righteous run into it and are saved. I'm

  16. going to preach today. on the tower of His name.

  17. Why don't we pray right now? Let's thank God

  18. for His presence. His Word that we're about to

  19. hear. Father, we love You. We thank You, God,

  20. for what You're doing in our midst today, Lord.

  21. We thank You, God, that we're able to come in

  22. a humble place like this and feel Your presence

  23. and lift up Your name. You are surely in the

  24. midst of Your people here today. You dwell in

  25. the praises of Your people. We pray right now,

  26. God, that as we open up our hearts to Your Word,

  27. that You would speak to us the Word of life.

  28. Surely there's someone in today, God, who's on

  29. the verge. of getting closer to you, on the verge

  30. of making a decision, Lord, to serve you the

  31. rest of their life. God, on the verge of recommitting

  32. their heart. Lord, you know where we all are

  33. today in our faith and our spirit. And I pray,

  34. God, that you would touch us, anoint our hearing,

  35. and anoint my lips of clay. In Jesus' name we

  36. pray. Everybody say amen. If you can find a place

  37. to sit, go ahead and make yourself comfortable.

  38. That AC is blowing. Praise be to God. It's blowing

  39. in this place. There's another wind blowing.

  40. It's the Holy Ghost blowing. We're so glad. It's

  41. also good to see Sister Marlena back. When I

  42. think of towers, I think of some famous landmarks.

  43. I think of the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower

  44. in Paris. I think of Big Ben in London. Or I

  45. think of the Space Beetle in Seattle. These are

  46. all towers that, when we think of these towers,

  47. they're majestic, right? They're awesome. We

  48. admire how they look. I also think of that, you

  49. know that Leaning Tower? The Leaning Tower? I

  50. don't think that tower's pre -shaped, right?

  51. The Tower of Pisa. I wouldn't go in there, but

  52. we admire it for its beauty. We admire it for

  53. the architecture. These are all beautiful towers.

  54. But the towers that we read about in Scripture

  55. in ancient Israel served a far more urgent purpose

  56. than just beautifying the landscape. These towers

  57. served an urgent purpose. They were used for

  58. military purposes. Towers that were built to

  59. the size of the walls of the city, like a fortress.

  60. They would build these towers so that a watchman

  61. could go up, view the land, and if any invading

  62. armies would come, they would be able to sound

  63. the alarm that were being attacked. And so they

  64. served a military purpose. Different purposes.

  65. If you had a tower in your city, that tower was

  66. a beacon of hope. If the enemy were to come in

  67. and you were ambushed or attacked, all the townspeople,

  68. all the citizens of the city, what they would

  69. do is run into the tower. That was the shelter

  70. in place. That was the place of refuge, a safe

  71. zone, so that you were protected against the

  72. invading armies. So to have a tower was a very

  73. important thing. Even out in the rural areas,

  74. out in the fields, in the vineyards, they would

  75. build towers there. the farmers and the ranchers

  76. so that they could look at their harvest and

  77. see if there was any foxes or any predators or

  78. even thieves that would want to come and rob

  79. them of their harvest, destroy the harvest. And

  80. so these towers could very much mean the difference

  81. between life and death. These towers could make

  82. all the difference between losing or preserving

  83. their most precious thing. When you visualize

  84. in your mind today, I've got to borrow your imagination

  85. to look at these old stone -built towers, almost

  86. like a castle. They meant the difference between

  87. life and death. They were not just for architecture,

  88. not just for beauty, not just to say, wow, you've

  89. got a tower city. But these towers represented

  90. hope. And no matter the city. you know that if

  91. you had a tower there, you could run to that

  92. tower for safety. And sometimes that tower was

  93. the last hope, the last place you could go. It

  94. represented your last chance of survival, your

  95. last chance of possibly avoiding enemy capture.

  96. This was the image behind the words that Solomon

  97. wrote when he said, the name of the Lord. is

  98. a strong tower. Somebody give God some praise

  99. for that. The Lord is a strong tower. Solomon

  100. wanted us to understand that the way that a town

  101. or a city or the outskirts of the city looked

  102. at a tower, what that represented to them is

  103. what the name of the Lord represents to His people.

  104. It is a place where you and I can run to to find

  105. safety from this world. What kind of safety?

  106. I'm talking about spiritual safety today. I'm

  107. talking about making sure that your soul is found

  108. in a safe place. Found safety from the attacks

  109. of the enemy. From sin and from destruction and

  110. from calamity that is running rampant in this

  111. world. We all. No matter who you are today, no

  112. matter where you come from, everyone in this

  113. little room today needs a tower that they can

  114. run to. They can tell you that that tower is

  115. not found in a building. That tower is not found

  116. at an address somewhere. That tower is not found

  117. somewhere constructed in the middle of the city

  118. center. That tower is not on a mountain somewhere.

  119. That tower is not behind some great fortress,

  120. some great palace, or some great cathedral. That

  121. tower is the name of Jesus. That tower is the

  122. name of the Lord. And his name is Jesus. Somebody

  123. say Jesus. The name Jesus literally means the

  124. Lord saves. That's the literal meaning of Jesus.

  125. God is salvation or the Lord saves. So, the name

  126. of the Lord saves. He is a strong tower. But

  127. what happens when you find yourself on the run?

  128. What happens when you say to yourself, even though

  129. I know the name of the Lord is a strong tower,

  130. I can feel the heat of the enemy on my back.

  131. And I feel like the enemy is coming up right

  132. up against the tower. Because even though we've

  133. got a tower, that doesn't stop the enemy from

  134. wanting to attack us. That doesn't stop the enemy

  135. from wanting to come against us. How many of

  136. you know I'm talking the truth today? It doesn't

  137. mean that weapons are still not going to be formed

  138. against us. They're going to come. And there

  139. are some examples in Scripture that I want to

  140. point you today to. that show us in a very powerful

  141. way what the tower of his name represents. There's

  142. a tower in Scripture. It's called the Tower of

  143. Thebes. And the Tower of Thebes, we find this

  144. story in Judges 9. If you want to go there, you

  145. can. Judges 9, verse 51. There we find a story

    Judges 9:51

  146. about a ruthless king. His name was Abimelech.

  147. And this king was wicked in the sight of God.

  148. He was ruthless. He was cruel. And he sought

  149. to destroy the people of God. The Bible says

  150. that he came against the city of Phoebus. And

  151. he came against it with everything he had. His

  152. whole army. His swordsmen and his archers. They

  153. came against them. And it reads this way in Judges

    Judges 9:51

  154. 9 verse 51. But there was... a strong tower in

  155. the city and all the men and the women and all

  156. the people of the city everybody must have been

  157. a pretty big tower everybody fled there and shut

  158. themselves in and they went up to the top of

  159. the tower i wonder how many of you want to go

  160. to the top of the tower imagine the fear though

  161. that the people must have felt seeing this wicked

  162. king come against them knowing that he wants

  163. to destroy everything that they know and love.

  164. Imagine the fear and the terror they must have

  165. felt seeing this king come against them, who's

  166. obviously got a greater army. They're outnumbered.

  167. They're outmanned. They're outgunned. So this

  168. king is coming against them. They're not... equipped

  169. to fight back again and go toe -to -toe with

  170. them. This is not going to be like a battle,

  171. you know, where two armies come against and clash

  172. with a battle. They know there's really nothing

  173. they can do to defend themselves. So what they

  174. do is they go to that one place they built for

  175. times of safety, for times of destruction. And

  176. they all began to pile in and they all rushed

  177. into that place hoping to find safety. I don't

  178. know if there was a mad panic that broke out

  179. among them. It was probably pandemonium and chaos

  180. as everybody was running to there. But the Bible

  181. says that all the people, and this is what I

  182. love about this tower, is that everybody was

  183. welcome. It didn't stop them at the tower and

  184. say, whoa, whoa, what's your name? No, if you're

  185. in this city, you're welcome to come in. They

  186. didn't stop everybody and say, well, I need you

  187. to quote at least three verses before you can

  188. come in. No. Everybody got to go in. Man, woman,

  189. and child. Young and old. Everybody. No matter

  190. their background. If they were a resident of

  191. that city, they got to go in. That's a picture

  192. of the name of the Lord. Because our God is indiscriminate.

  193. Our God is saying, if you run to me and you know

  194. what my name is, you're welcome to come on in.

  195. Well, guess what happened? The king said, you

  196. know what? These people are playing hard to get.

  197. So he wrapped up all of his efforts, and the

  198. Bible says they came against the door of the

  199. temple, and they sought to burn the whole thing

  200. down. They said, okay, you guys are going to

  201. hide in there? Well, we're going to burn this

  202. thing down. And we're going to, you know, we're

  203. going to bake you guys inside of that tower.

  204. But this is what the Bible says. In that same

  205. story, we just go to verse, so from verse 51,

  206. now to verse 53. This is what it says. It says,

  207. but a certain woman... Alright, where are the

  208. ladies at in here? Man, sisters, I'm about to

  209. encourage you right now. It says, but a certain

  210. woman dropped an upper millstone on a beveled

  211. head and crushed his skull. I preached this at

  212. a women's service one time and they went crazy.

  213. What would happen if the women got a hold of

  214. the... word of God and they crushed the head

  215. of the enemy. Literally. This thing came from

  216. above and it hit him right on the head and crushed

  217. him. And this is the power that we all have in

  218. the name of the Lord. When I go before the Holy

  219. Spirit and I begin to pray in the name of the

  220. Lord, guess what happens? I've got a big stone

  221. in my hand and that power that's in his name

  222. allows the enemy, I'm saved, I'm the Lord. This

  223. has to bow in the name of God's blessing over

  224. your children. over your babies and over your

  225. sons and your daughters. You do it with authority.

  226. You do it with power of Jesus. You've got to

  227. speak the name of Jesus. And I speak the name

  228. of Jesus over my children before they leave school.

  229. Because I don't know what attacks are going to

  230. come against them when they walk out of the doors

  231. of my house. I don't know what kind of garbage

  232. or lies... perception, or even physical violence

  233. could come against us. So I've got to speak the

  234. name of Jesus. And the devil may not respect

  235. my name, but he's going to respect his name.

  236. So this little story gives us a picture of Jesus

  237. being our deliverer. He delivers us. There's

  238. another example. I want to point you to the book

  239. of Song of Solomon. Song of Solomon, chapter

Song of Solomon 4 chapter mention

  240. 4 and verse 4. Or the Song of Psalms. Here we

  241. get another picture. Not of the Tower of Thebes,

  242. but of the Tower of David. He paints a picture,

  243. Solomon, of the Tower of David. It's on the Song

  244. of Solomon 4 .4. It reads, Your neck is like

  245. the Tower of David, built for an armory. Thereon

  246. hang a thousand butlers, all shields. of mighty

  247. men solomon was remembering the tower that was

  248. built during his father's era who was the king

  249. of israel and he recalled how this this this

  250. unique tower that was built in jerusalem was

  251. not just like any other tower but on the walls

  252. of the tower on the outside walls of the tower

  253. were adorned and decorated with different shields

  254. that were used in battle imagine that for a moment

  255. these shields that were affixed to this this

  256. tower and so what is so symbolic about this tower

  257. with all of these shields that were built there

  258. is that it was a war chest because when time

  259. of war would happen when enemies would invade

  260. guess what they could do the mighty men can go

  261. and grab a shield that was hanging on that So

  262. it wasn't just like a trophy case. This was an

  263. active fortress. So they could grab those shields

  264. and those spears that were up there on the tower

  265. and use them in battle. But it was also a sign.

  266. Because when enemies would come against God's

  267. people in Jerusalem, imagine you're an opposing

  268. enemy. And you're getting ready to ambush. You're

  269. getting ready to attack this city. And you're

  270. starting to plan, and as you're approaching,

  271. getting closer and closer to the city of Jerusalem,

  272. and you start to notice there's this tower over

  273. there. You get a little closer, and you start

  274. to see all of these shields. I imagine some of

  275. these shields have blood on them. I imagine some

  276. of them have dents in them. I mean, these shields

  277. look like they've been used in battle. and they're

  278. up there and imagine somebody a scout even looks

  279. and says hey i gotta let the captain know that

  280. they've got all these shields these people are

  281. people who are that they are uh they they are

  282. trained in battle man you know they are they

  283. are they are rugged people they know how to fight

  284. and so what that that tower did is send a message

  285. to those enemies that were coming letting them

  286. know you're not just messing with anybody It

  287. stood as a testimony. It stood as a trophy of

  288. victory so that the incoming enemy would know

  289. that this city belongs to a victorious king.

  290. Jesus, you're not running to a rookie king. You're

  291. running to a novice. You're not running to somebody

  292. who's just met. When you run to Jesus, you're

  293. running to serve a victorious king. In Christ,

  294. when we go to Christ in prayer, and we've got

  295. to look at the tower, And remember, I want you

  296. to think right now in your mind the tower of

  297. God in your life. I want you to think of the

  298. tower. Every one of you has got a tower. You

  299. know what you've got? You've got a tower of testimonies.

  300. Take a look at my tower. Your tower's got shields

  301. all over it. It's got testimonies of what God...

  302. You know, we've got testimonies in our life.

  303. We shouldn't even be here today. But God... Remind

  304. the devil of Calvary. Remind the devil of the

  305. cross. You know what he hates? He hates when

  306. you talk about the blood of Jesus. He hates the

  307. blood of Jesus because the blood of Jesus reminds

  308. him that he's defeated. And that you're covered.

  309. And your sins have been washed away. And there's

  310. nothing he can do about it. Thank you, Jesus.

  311. I saw that and I was so excited I could hardly

  312. contain myself. I thought about the thousands

  313. of bucklers. These are little shields. The thousands

  314. of testimonies. The thousands of victories. The

  315. thousands of miracles. The thousands of things.

  316. The big things that God has done for us. And

  317. that ought to instill in us a confidence in His

  318. name. No wonder David said in Psalm 20 in verse

  319. 7. in chariots, and some in horses, but we will

  320. remember the name of the Lord. In man -made solutions,

  321. my faith today is in the name of the Lord, and

  322. that's why I'm going to work His name. I remember

  323. His name. If you know His name, can you say it

  324. right now? Let me tell you, there's one other

  325. picture in your soul that I want to paint. There's

  326. another type of tower that exists. A tower. This

  327. is the vineyard watchtower. And I want you to

  328. look at Isaiah. If you want to go there, you

  329. can in your Bible. Isaiah 5 and verse 2. It says

  330. that there's a story there about a man. A man

  331. who did something interesting. He was not a tower

  332. builder per se. He was not a general contractor.

  333. This is not his trade. he was a vine dresser

  334. a planter a harvester but on one occasion in

  335. one moment he realized that he needed to build

  336. a tower isaiah chapter 5 and verse 2 says he

    Isaiah 5 chapter mention

  337. dug it up and cleared out his stones and planted

  338. it with the choices vine he built a tower in

  339. the midst in its midst and also made a wine press

  340. in it. I won't even get into that. But in the

  341. tower, he made the tower also. It doubled as

  342. a wine press. That's another message I got. But

  343. it's a wine press. But he builds this tower.

  344. He's a farmer. He's a harvester. But he built

  345. the tower. He learned how to build it. Maybe

  346. he watched a YouTube video. He built the tower.

  347. And he did it. Why? Not because of invading armies.

  348. armies we're not going to attack them necessarily

  349. but predators that want to come in and devour

  350. his harvest predators and not real big predators

  351. like you might think like you know a big gorilla

  352. a stampede of halifax no the little foxes the

  353. bible says spoil the mind the towering in the

  354. vineyard is not built to protect against the

  355. army against those little things that come in

  356. to sabotage the blessings and the promises of

  357. god in our lives the little things someone say

  358. the little things you need a tower not only to

  359. fight the big things you need a tower not only

  360. some of you need a tower by getting baptized

  361. in the name of Jesus. You need a tower of salvation

  362. today. Somebody needs a tower of healing today.

  363. It's all in His name. There's also some that

  364. need a tower for God to show you the foxes that

  365. are starting to eat away. You say, what is that

  366. little fox? It's the little worry that keeps

  367. you awake at night. The little fox is that little

  368. offense that's starting to... grow a root of

  369. bitterness that you haven't dealt with. That

  370. little fox, he said, well, it's not that big

  371. of a deal. Today it's not, but give it some time

  372. and it's going to eat your harvest. It's the

  373. little compromises that you convince yourself,

  374. I can stop anytime I want to. I can turn it off

  375. or turn it on whenever I want to. And those are

  376. the lies you tell yourself. But these little

  377. foxes, they're nipping away. at your spirituality.

  378. They're nibbling away at your relationship with

  379. God. Oh, it's just a little time here and there.

  380. Sometimes the little foxes are just distractions

  381. that steal our time away from God. And this is

  382. what Jesus said about the thief and the robber.

  383. The thief does not come, but yet to steal, to

  384. kill, and to destroy. He wants to destroy our

  385. harvest. He wants to destroy the things that

  386. God has done in our life or is doing in our life.

  387. But Jesus said, I have come, but I that you may

  388. have life and have it more abundantly. It's the

  389. name that saves us. It's the name that delivers

  390. us. And it's also the name that sanctifies us.

  391. It's the name that purifies us. And so if you

  392. need to get right with God today, you need God

  393. to clean out the carnality that is at war with

  394. your spirit. You need your carnal man to die.

  395. The flesh to die. You need to climb higher into

  396. the tower so that God can expose to you the things

  397. that you're like that you need to deal with.

  398. And His name is Jesus. I invite you to stand

  399. here. There is a tower. His name is Jesus. I've

  400. come today to preach about the tower of His name.

  401. Somebody today needs to climb that tower. This

  402. is what I love. What the Bible says is endanger

  403. me, admire me. tower and say wow what a tower

  404. that is someone today is in danger of just agreeing

  405. with the preacher and saying yes his name is

  406. powerful yes his name is great and his life taking

  407. their sweet time like you know i'll get there

  408. when i get there no what does it say he runs

  409. there is got to be a sense of urgency in somebody's

  410. heart. Listen, for what God is trying to do in

  411. your life, dear friend, with all due respect,

  412. you cannot afford to crawl or walk your way there.

  413. Walk and take my sweet time. You know why? Because

  414. you've already ran out of time. Jesus is coming

  415. soon. You don't have the luxury of time anymore.

  416. of waiting back. You know, I'm going to wait

  417. for next seat. I'm going to really wait for my

  418. moment. No, your moment has arrived. The hour

  419. is urgent. It's getting fiercer. The attacks

  420. are getting... The enemy's not going to...
