  5. Thank you for the opportunity to spend time with you

  6. in your word. Please examine our hearts and give us

  7. the grace to stand rightly with you. In Jesus' mighty name. Amen.

  8. Let us kindly take our confession for today from Joshua

    Joshua 1 chapter mention

  9. chapter 1 the verse 8. Joshua chapter 1 the verse 8.

    Joshua 1 chapter mention

  10. This book of the law shall not depart from my mouth.

  11. But I shall meditate in it day and night, that

  12. I may observe to do according to all that is

  13. written in it. For then I will make my way prosperous,

  14. and then I will have good success. Amen. Today's message,

  15. written by Pastor Dickiness Kilson, is titled Ground Zero, Part 2.

  16. Go Back to Bethel. Ground Zero, Part 2. Go back

  17. to Bethel. Our scripture reading shall be taken from Genesis

    Genesis 35 chapter mention

  18. chapter 35, the verse 1 to 7. Genesis chapter 35,

    Genesis 35 chapter mention

  19. the verse 1 to 7. I will be reading from

  20. the New International Version. Then God said to Jacob, Go

  21. up to Bethel and settle there and build an altar

  22. there to God. who appeared to you when you were

  23. fleeing from your brother Esau. So Jacob said to his

  24. household and to all who were with him, Get rid

  25. of the foreign gods you have with you, and purify

  26. yourself and change your clothes. Then come, let us go

  27. up to Bethel, where I will build an altar to God,

  28. who answered me in the day of my distress, and

  29. who has been with me wherever I have gone. So

  30. they gave Jacob all the foreign gods they had, and

  31. the rings in their ears, and Jacob buried them under

  32. the oak at Shechem. Then they set out, and the

  33. terror of God fell on the towns all around them,

  34. so that no one pursued them. Jacob and all the

  35. people with him came to Luz, that is Bethel, in

  36. the land of Canaan. There he built an altar, and

  37. he called the the place El Bethel, because it was

  38. there that God revealed himself to him when he was

  39. fleeing from his brother. The Lord add his blessing to

  40. the reading and hearing of his word. Thanks be to God. Amen. Yesterday,

  41. we left Jacob at Bethel. where the God he had

  42. heard about became his God. But Jacob could not stay

  43. at Bethel. He had life to live, and so do we.

  44. By Genesis 35, more than 20 years have passed. The

  45. frightened young man with a stone for a pillow is

  46. now the head of a large household. He has worked

  47. for Laban, been deceived and disappointed, married, raised children, and

  48. grown wealthy. And through it all, God has been faithful.

  49. Perhaps that is where many of us are. You still

  50. love God. You still believe. You still attend church. You

  51. still pray, serve, and give. But life has happened. Marriage, children, career, success, disappointment.

  52. Some prayers were answered. Others were not. And somewhere along

  53. the way, something shifted. Prayer that once flowed freely has

  54. become hurried. Scripture that once fascinated you now feels a

  55. bit too familiar. Things that once troubled your conscience no

  56. longer trouble it quite as much. Not because you woke

  57. up one morning and decided to walk away from God.

  58. You simply became busy living. Jacob had settled near Shechem,

  59. and there his family passed through one of its darkest chapters.

  60. His daughter Dinah was violated. His sons answered with deceit

  61. and terrible bloodshed. Jacob looked at his household and was afraid.

  62. As he reflected on all this atrocity, God said to him, Arise,

  63. go up to Bethel. Go back, Jacob. Go back to

  64. the place where I met you, back to ground zero.

  65. Notice what Jacob does before he takes a single step.

  66. He asks his household to put away the foreign gods

  67. that are among them. Somewhere on the journey, things had

  68. entered into his household that could not travel with them

  69. back to Bethel. Beloved, what have you picked up along

  70. the way? For us, it is rarely a carved image.

  71. Our foreign gods are subtler. Success, money, recognition, a relationship, comfort, etc.

  72. Even ministry can become more important to some of us

  73. than the God we are serving. Often it is not

  74. something sinful in itself. It is simply something good that

  75. has slowly taken the place of God in our hearts.

  76. Jacob and his household did not carry their idols to

  77. Bethel and ask God to bless them. No, they got

  78. rid of them by burying them at Shechem. In the

  79. same way, renewal often begins not by adding something new,

  80. but by laying something down. Perhaps God is not asking

  81. you for another activity today. Maybe he is asking, what

  82. needs to be buried? A compromise? An offense carried too long?

  83. A secret habit? Something needs to be buried under the

  84. tree at Shechem if you are to return wholeheartedly to

  85. your Bethel. So if you look at your work today

  86. and realize you are not where you once were, do

  87. not let that drive you from God. Rather, let that

  88. realization draw you back to Him. Jesus said to the

  89. church at Ephesus, Remember therefore from where you are falling.

  90. Repent and do the first works. Revelation chapter 2 verse

    Revelation 2:5

  91. 5 So we are to remember, repent and return to

  92. our first love. Precious one, where is your Bethel? Can

  93. you remember a point in time when prayer to you

  94. was more than a routine? When scripture was sweet and precious?

  95. When simply knowing Christ was more than enough? Beloved, don't

  96. condemn yourself or remain in your current state. Rather, remember,

  97. repent and return to your first love. The God who

  98. met you at ground zero is still with you. And

  99. all he is asking you to do is to arise

  100. and go up to Bethel to return to your first love.

  101. and to return to your ground zero. God richly bless you.

  102. Let us kindly take our memory verse for today. Our

  103. memory verse for today is taken from Genesis 35, verse 3.

    Genesis 35:3

  104. Genesis 35, verse 3. I will be reading from the

    Genesis 35:3

  105. New King James Version. Then let us arise and go

  106. up to Bethel, and I will make an altar there

  107. to God who answered me in the day of my

  108. distress and has been with me in the way which

  109. I have gone. Then let us arise and go up

  110. to Bethel, and I will make an altar there to God,

  111. who answered me in the day of my distress and

  112. has been with me in the way which I have gone. Amen.

  113. Let us kindly share a word of prayer. Our Heavenly Father,

  114. Thank you for your faithfulness through every mile of our journey.

  115. Even when life grew busy and our hearts were very distracted,

  116. you never left us. Show us what we have picked

  117. up along the way that has taken your place and

  118. give us the grace to lay it down. Restore our

  119. first love and renew our wonder. May we grow in

  120. maturity without ever outgrowing our dependence on you. In Jesus'

  121. mighty name. Amen. Beloved, spiritual renewal often begins not by

  122. adding something new to our lives, but by laying down

  123. whatever has sadly taken God's place in our hearts. Amen.

  124. God richly bless you for staying all through today's morning

  125. glory devotion. Kindly join us again for another episode tomorrow

  126. by God's grace at the same time. Stay tuned to

  127. Radio HCI today for more Spirit-filled content. Until we meet again,

  128. stay blessed. Shalom.
