  4. What's up, CBC students?

  5. It's your student ministry family.

  6. We're so very excited that you're listening to us today.

  7. Um, as you can tell, Nola's not doing the intro, but that's because she's telling us the story about how she got into ministry, specifically student ministry.

  8. So I'm gonna turn it over to her and we're gonna hear a little bit about our Nola.

  9. Yes.

  10. Okay.

  11. So I was thinking about this yesterday and today, because we always record our podcasts on Thursdays.

  12. And honestly, how I got started in student ministry starts when I was a student.

  13. So I was like really back and forth about whether I was gonna go that far back.

  14. And I'm gonna try to get through it as quickly as I can.

  15. But I think it's significant that the Lord really was doing a work in my heart when I was in middle school.

  16. So um it started, several of y'all know my my testimony in terms of uh, you know, came to know the Lord at a very early age, grew up in a Christian home, grew up going to church.

  17. Um, but several years of my life really kind of wasted because I wasn't growing in my relationship with the Lord.

  18. And so um it was really when a cool college girl came into my life, her name is Megan Stone, um, she showed me what it looked like to grow and showed me that like I had a purpose, and that was to share the gospel with people that were lost and that I had a responsibility to help people grow who have a relationship with the Lord, the way that she was helping me to grow in my relationship with the Lord.

  19. And her passion, uh, she she was going on overseas mission trips.

  20. She was always like very big into like traveling to Africa.

  21. Honestly, I'm still kind of shocked to this day that she hasn't moved to Africa or somewhere overseas, but she's always been like super international missions girly.

  22. And so that always struck me.

  23. Uh, just her passion for the gospel, her passion for making uh Jesus' name known has always been very contagious to me.

  24. And so um I remember as early as middle school uh feeling called to ministry.

  25. I didn't know what that was gonna look like long term.

  26. I actually thought that I would be an overseas missionary for a very long time.

  27. Went on my first overseas mission trip and I was like, this is not for me.

  28. This is not what the Lord has called me to do.

  29. And I was kind of having an identity crisis, being like, I have been saying for so long, like for years, that I wanted to be an overseas missionary.

  30. Like it, but I just my heart was not singing for that.

  31. I just was not passionate about it.

  32. And so, um, anyways, but what I did feel passionate about, um, even as a middle school girl, Megan would be like, okay, so if I'm pouring into you, my expectation is that you're gonna pour into somebody else.

  33. I don't know what that's gonna look like, you're gonna have to figure it out, but this is this is the point, right?

  34. Is that the gospel came to you on the way to somebody else?

  35. How are you gonna teach what I have taught you to somebody else?

  36. So I remember when I was in eighth grade, and I like cringe to think about this now, but I was I was in eighth grade having a group of fourth graders over to my house for uh girls' Bible study.

  37. It was like cute though.

  38. And it's funny because I ran into one of them one of the more recent times than I went home and I hadn't seen her in years.

  39. She's actually she got married recently, and uh she just started bawling, crying when she saw me.

  40. She was like, Oh my gosh, I haven't seen you in years.

  41. I mean, it was like a really cool little reunion.

  42. But, anyways, I used to do Bible study with a group of fourth graders when I was in eighth grade, never imagining that that could turn into a job.

  43. Never imagining that it could turn into a job.

  44. I grew up in a smaller church where it was like we were blessed to have a youth pastor.

  45. There was no girls' ministry director.

  46. That was not even remotely on my radar.

  47. So, anyways, fast forward, I knew that I wanted to be in ministry, went to seminary because I that was just the most natural fit for kind of being trained in ministry, um, got my degree in biblical counseling.

  48. I've always really enjoyed having real conversations, my friends give me grief because I'm not great at small talk, but I'm very like interested in give me your life story right here on the jump.

  49. Give me a long talk right now.

  50. Yes.

  51. So uh, so I've always enjoyed talking people through, I think Mila kind of mentioned this too, and and Mila and I are very similarly wired in this way.

  52. Um, of just like, I've always been the friend that I wanted I wanted my friends to come to me, but my friends very naturally would come to me and be like, hey, I have this problem.

  53. Um, and I loved that.

  54. So uh studied biblical counseling because my heart was really just to know God's word, know it well enough that I could help people in my world that were having problems and point them to the answers that come from God's word.

  55. And so um that was my first couple of years of college, but I thought that I would just be a counselor, thought that I would just do normal, like pretty standard counseling in terms of having several sessions throughout the day, several clients throughout the day, and then wake up and do the next thing.

  56. Okay.

  57. Um, but uh I was teaching Sunday school as a college student and I loved it.

  58. I was like, this is my favorite part of life right now.

  59. And the Lord, like I I don't remember the Lord like necessarily parting the skies or anything like that and being like, hey, you're gonna be a girls ministry director.

  60. But I was like, if there's any possibility that I could be in like do this for a living, that would be the dream.

  61. And the Lord totally just opened doors up for me to be able to be in girls' ministry.

  62. Um, I had to leave my home church because again, very small, there wasn't an opportunity for me to be a girls ministry director at my home church, but um applied to every church in the Memphis area, and uh they all came back and were like, hey, we we either have this position filled or we don't have this position at all.

  63. Um and the only church that I did not reach out to, and it was for just a silly reason, uh they didn't they didn't it didn't look like on their church website that they were big enough to necessarily have a girls ministry director.

  64. The only church that I did not reach out to actually ended up reaching out to somebody at my home church and being like, hey, do y'all have anybody who is interested in maybe filling a girls ministry position?

  65. We're about to lose our girls' ministry director.

  66. She is about to get married and move on with her life.

  67. And so, um, anyways, interviewed and within a couple of weeks of graduating from Bible college, I was the girls' ministry director at that church.

  68. Yeah.

  69. The Lord has just continued to provide, and um not long after that was at a celebration, and it's been just a joy.

  70. Like I look back on the last five years of doing full full-time student ministry, and I'm like, I just don't have really have the vocabulary for how special it's been and how passionate I am about the next generation because I was reached as the next generation, you know?

  71. So anyway, that was a very, very long.

  72. I don't even know how many minutes we're in, but that's great.

  73. Not much that's six minutes.

  74. Okay.

  75. Okay, all right.

  76. Or seven.

  77. Six or seven that is absolutely correct.

  78. That's actually seven minutes and four seconds.

  79. That's okay.

  80. Well, let's get into why we're actually here.

  81. Um Hey, Suzy, can you give us just like a brief synopsis of what you taught on last night in case any of our listeners weren't able to be at Converge last night?

  82. The magic word is brief.

  83. I'm gonna try very hard to do that.

  84. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

  85. No, no, absolutely.

  86. So yesterday we found ourselves in chapter three.

  87. We covered verses one to sixteen, right?

  88. So if uh you didn't get a chance to go to that particular message, chapter three, verse um one all the way to sixteen, it's actually two parts.

  89. And um, if you look at if you look at it in two parts, we had uh verses one to ten talk about a story, and the peak of that story was when Peter uh said, In the name of Jesus, you lame man, are healed, right?

  90. So, you know, anyway, so the story kind of has a little bit on the front end, a little bit on the back end, but the main part of the story is you got a man begging for money.

  91. Peter gives him more than money, right?

  92. So then boom.

  93. So now we have the end of that first ten verses, which climaxes with Peter using the name of Jesus to heal this guy, right?

  94. And I think in the message, I don't think I know, in the message I said, hey, this is a moment when Jesus' name turns from a noun to a verb.

  95. It turn it changes from a title that someone may know to an actual force that does something, right?

  96. And that Peter uses, right?

  97. So that was the point of the first 10 verses, and then we slide over to verse 11 to 16.

  98. Because, you know, uh, like most things, when the Holy Spirit steps into the equation, people have questions.

  99. So then all of a sudden, what happens?

  100. Peter looks around, uses it as a gospel moment.

  101. Oh, that surprised you.

  102. Oh, you got a question about this?

  103. Let me tell you whose name I just used, and sin.

  104. It so Peter doesn't necessarily give his second sermon, but he, you know, makes it a gospel type conversation.

  105. And so that's kind of the point in terms of Jesus' name is an actual verb, it's an actual force, right?

  106. That's being used.

  107. And so, you know, um, I can't wait for next week because next week he has a continued conversation with those people, and he asked them to respond to this name himself.

  108. Uh not just explaining what the name did, but what are you gonna do with it now?

  109. Right.

  110. So he does that, and then you know, some other people get mad at Peter and John, and we got another story coming in.

  111. But yeah, but that's pretty much the summary of the story.

  112. Cool.

  113. Yeah, last night's message was a tremendous encouragement to me, but I feel like it's just so uh directly applicable to our students.

  114. Uh we we touched on this a little bit last week uh because we were kind of talking about how not long before this Peter was denying Jesus, right?

  115. And so then you have last week's sermon where he he literally just gives a sermon and then 3,000 are added to their number.

  116. And then you have this story where the next like one step of obedience leads to the next.

  117. And so that's kind of the takeaway that I'm coming away with for our students is that once you are bold enough to take the first step of obedience, usually the next step of obedience comes maybe not easier, but a little more quickly because you see, like, okay, the Lord did that.

  118. I was obedient and he did it, you know.

  119. This thing is rigged.

  120. If I'm just obedient to what he tells me to do, he is going to come through.

  121. And so he goes from teaching a sermon to literally telling a lame man, get up and walk in Jesus' name, right?

  122. Yeah, yeah.

  123. Um, and so, anyways, I just I love everything about that story, but my question actually has nothing to do with any of that.

  124. It has something to do with what I'm saying.

  125. That's how this podcast works.

  126. We got questions and it don't got nothing.

  127. No, this is um yeah.

  128. So my question actually has a lot to do with my what I feel like the Lord has kind of been teaching me in terms of being a godly leader and and how to better lead the girls that are in my ministry.

  129. And so um a good chunk of the message was talking about how the people were super confused and were astonished and all this stuff, and they're looking at the situation being like, we just saw you literally paralyzed on the ground, and now you're up and talking.

  130. I mean, up and not up and talking.

  131. I mean, yes, he was talking, but that wasn't the point.

  132. Anyways, um, he's upright, walking, all the things, and uh Peter is like, I don't know why you're confused, like we made this happen, right?

  133. Like Jesus is the one who has made this happen.

  134. And so here's my question.

  135. Yeah.

  136. How can our students protect themselves from lifting up godly people in their lives more than Jesus Christ of Nazareth?

  137. So I think the temptation, especially like even for me, as I look back on my life, is to put leaders up on a pedestal.

  138. I'm a I'm just a people person in general.

  139. So people typically mean a lot to me and whatever, especially people who have been uh good godly leaders.

  140. And so there is an expectation that we should have that godly leaders lead with integrity.

  141. And uh we, you know, that's the whole point of relationships is that we love one another and have good godly relationships that point us to Christ.

  142. But my concern is is sometimes I think that good godly leadership can lead us to idolize leaders instead of our primary focus being on Christ, like letting those leaders point us to Christ.

  143. So, like if myself, Mila, Jesus dropped off the face of the earth tomorrow, like how can we encourage our students, you know, to look to Jesus Christ of Nazareth?

  144. So, anyways, I'll ask the question again because I kind of I had to explain it a little bit.

  145. But how can our students protect themselves from lifting up godly people in their lives more than Jesus Christ of Nazareth?

  146. That's excellent.

  147. That's an excellent question.

  148. Yeah, it really is.

  149. I mean, you can look at it in multiple ways.

  150. Uh Jesus himself, right?

  151. The Bible calls Jesus a servant, but Jesus himself appointed to the Father.

  152. Yeah.

  153. That's one example, right?

  154. You want to know how to not pat yourself on the back and not boast in anything that you have not received?

  155. You can look at Jesus himself, right?

  156. Jesus said that, right?

  157. You could also look at the apostles, right?

  158. These are these are men that came alongside Jesus, right?

  159. And so I I believe in yesterday's message or in the last message, I I think I pointed folks to 1 Corinthians chapter 4, verse 1.

    1 Corinthians 4:1

  160. Right?

  161. Yeah.

  162. If we recall, if you look at the um letter to the Corinthians, they had this problem.

  163. They grabbed certain folks and they made some celebrities.

  164. But the problem is when you make some celebrities, you're gonna make other people not a celebrity.

  165. And so this is where that whole scene came in.

  166. I follow Apollos, I follow Cephas, I follow this, I follow that.

  167. And so what happens in this particular letter when when when the apostle Paul is writing to these people, he's saying, This is how you should regard us.

  168. Those folks that are delivering this message as servants of Christ and stewards of the mystery, right?

  169. So all of a sudden, um, the apostles themselves had great opportunity to pat themselves on the back to just get some love, right?

  170. And and sit on that.

  171. Look at their example.

  172. So let's let's just say you don't look at Jesus, right?

  173. Because Jesus is pointing to the Father, right?

  174. Whatever the Father has said me to do, I do, right?

  175. Boom.

  176. So you got Jesus pointing to the Father.

  177. You have the apostles pointing to Jesus, right?

  178. Fixing this item, right?

  179. So if, for example, people are like, Man, Nola's the greatest.

  180. Man, you know what humble Nola can simply say, thank you so much.

  181. Christino, hey man, this is love.

  182. But but but uh Nola knows that whatever she has, she has uh only received it, right?

  183. He didn't create it.

  184. And so, you know, I would encourage folks to dive into that Corinthians letter because it talks about how you're supposed to treat those that are leading.

  185. Don't put them into celebrity status because what that does is creates division.

  186. First Corinthians hits that.

  187. Then he talks about how you properly supposed to look at what you would call these master builders, right?

  188. I mean, we're leading student ministry, right?

  189. Technically, we're master builders.

  190. That means the students are the ones constructing their own walls.

  191. And in 1 Corinthians, it says, be careful the walls you create, right?

  192. So there's a little relationship there, right?

  193. So, hey, how do you not lift up these master builders, these ones that are giving you the initial instruction?

  194. Recognize their servants, recognize their stewards, recognize that they have nothing that they weren't given or received.

  195. And if you chew on that, man, you'll be good.

  196. Now, listen, some people enjoy you doing a good job, right?

  197. We're gonna get parents that are gonna give us some love.

  198. Thank you so much.

  199. You did so much of this, you did so much of that.

  200. That's an opportunity to bring glory to the Lord, right?

  201. Grab them, lift them up, do the same thing that we just read about in Acts 3, which is Peter, like, why are you surprised?

  202. You know, like you just mentioned, Nola, when the Lord moves, he moves, right?

  203. Why are we surprised when he moves?

  204. Great.

  205. Let's not pat the vehicles, us.

  206. Let's, you know, let's, let's, let's, let's bring attention to the actual force that just did all that.

  207. So, yeah, that that would be my thought.

  208. I don't know if I've uh talked a lot about it or too much about it, but that's what I would say, you know.

  209. Or or man, you do let's just go back.

  210. You don't do any of that.

  211. The world has a way of giving you some humble pie.

  212. Right?

  213. You're like, oh, you're so big, here go some pie.

  214. Humble pie.

  215. Start eating it, you're like, ooh, it brings you back down.

  216. That's funny.

  217. Right?

  218. But you you gotta remember, you know, so uh let me go to my background just a little bit.

  219. This is super cool.

  220. So I'm a licensed school psychologist.

  221. So before that, I went to college to study clinical psychology, a different type of psychology, long-term therapy.

  222. My thesis that I was gonna write was comparing biblical self-esteem against worldly, I mean no, I'm sorry, uh, worldly self-esteem versus biblical God esteem.

  223. Because remember, I got saved as a graduate student.

  224. I got saved while I'm in the clinical psychology program, right?

  225. I'm studying like the complete opposite, right?

  226. I'm studying people helping people apart from God, like on purpose, right?

  227. And so all of a sudden, I get saved in this process.

  228. And when you read the Bible, it doesn't flatter you.

  229. That's so true.

  230. It it talked about the worst of the worst, the lowly of the lowly, the unintellectual.

  231. And I ain't gonna lie to you, I'm thinking I'm pretty hot stuff at this particular point.

  232. And I'm reading this and I'm saying, how can people like walk around in joy when the Bible describes you a certain way?

  233. And my senior pastor, Pastor Alpino, happy birthday a couple days ago, Alpino.

  234. The man said, Oh, because there's a difference between self-esteem and God esteem.

  235. Yep.

  236. And I was like, dude, that's deep.

  237. That that is deep.

  238. And so I started doing my research on that.

  239. I switched programs, so I didn't quite finish that thesis as a big monster document.

  240. But man, when I tell you, when just look at how the Bible describes this.

  241. As like, you know, if you if if if you go around this this uh table and we have a guest here, well, we we won't say who the guest is, maybe just maybe we'll say before the end of the day, uh, who's just you know, just observing here, right?

  242. Part of part of our program.

  243. Um, you know, when when you look at all that, man, man, whatever we have, we were given.

  244. Any wise word you've ever said, right?

  245. Talked about the the how the how how the Bible just just describes us as like it's completely upside down.

  246. What we consider wise is foolish, right?

  247. And so, you know, when you look at the the cross, we go back to that first Corinthians, you know, uh people look at the cross as something foolish.

  248. And they're like, but for the believer, that's the power of that's the power of the Lord, right?

  249. It's the power to save.

  250. So anyway, there we go.

  251. Before I keep yapping.

  252. That was good.

  253. Yeah, that was really good.

  254. I was just I that's been in my mind for a long time, just in terms of, yeah, like how do we develop disciples who are not invested in church, invested in Bible study, invested in whatever.

  255. All these really great things to be invested in until their leader leaves, right?

  256. Or until something happens to their leader, right?

  257. Um, how do you develop students?

  258. I mean, because we're in the context of student ministry, but how do you develop believers that are like, regardless of whether I'm following Nola or Miller or Jesus, like at the end of the day, if they drop off the face of the earth, get hit by a bus tomorrow, like CBC student ministry is gonna keep going because we've been trained to follow Christ.

  259. He is our primary love.

  260. We read the Bible because he is who we're getting to know.

  261. Yeah, not because I want to come to discipleship having some profound thought to bring to Nola this week.

  262. You know what I'm saying?

  263. So, anyways, I was kind of that's something that's been on my mind for a minute.

  264. And uh Zayle Lee is sitting here with us today.

  265. She did, she probably is like dying.

  266. That's her.

  267. But the reason that that's significant is because Zalee can vouch.

  268. I've been telling my discipleship girls, okay.

  269. If I get hit by a bus tomorrow, are you gonna keep doing what you're supposed to do?

  270. Are you gonna keep on uh pursuing guests on Wednesday night when I'm not the one that's being like, hey, you need to go talk to guests?

  271. Are you doing it because you love Christ and because that's what he's commanded you to do?

  272. Or are you doing it to please knoll the case in?

  273. So, anyways, can you affirm?

  274. You can't you're muted, you're muted, but you can not, but I can tell the people you know.

  275. You know what?

  276. A concept, a concept that we can chew on is this concept of plug and play.

  277. Ever heard of plug and play?

  278. I don't know.

  279. I want you just to imagine you got a keyboard or you got whatever it may be.

  280. You don't need to program the controller, you don't need to do all bunch of fancy stuff.

  281. You need to just plug it and play it.

  282. We all need to be that.

  283. Yeah.

  284. So we can say plug and play, but uh a term that that we'll probably use more of, just in case it just came up, is being ministry ready.

  285. Right?

  286. And so, you know, we're in the process as student ministry of putting together our plan for 2027 all the way to 2029.

  287. And that's our goal.

  288. Our goal is to pursue the lost and make all those that believe ministry ready.

  289. Right?

  290. We got some other little goals there.

  291. We have a total of four goals.

  292. Maybe one of our one of our episodes could actually talk about our goals, right?

  293. Yeah, who knows?

  294. After everything's been decided.

  295. But men, this is about being ministry ready.

  296. You know, I mean, if you ever ask yourself, how is it that Mila's sitting in the room, but let's just say Zayle's leading the group?

  297. What is it?

  298. Why is it that, you know, Nola's like right there?

  299. Why is she having XYZ girl do anything?

  300. Hey, uh look, Pastor Jesus is sitting there, Nola sitting there, Mila's sitting there.

  301. How come Carlos is speaking up there?

  302. It's because you got to give fucking.

  303. Opportunity.

  304. Yeah.

  305. You know, once they're ministry ready, you got to open up a couple doors.

  306. So you can't be afraid to ask.

  307. So, students, if you're listening to this, don't be afraid to ask.

  308. Don't be afraid to ask.

  309. We'll create opportunities.

  310. We got a couple fun things that we can definitely do in the future just to give folks a bit more opportunity to exercise those gifts.

  311. But listen, if the gift is right now, you setting up nine square, man, do that joyfully.

  312. There's some folks out there thinking, oh man, the gift is only teaching.

  313. Listen, the gift is doing.

  314. And so some of you need to start off by uh simply putting up the nine square, playing volleyball, serving pizza, and trust me when I tell you the opportunity to actually lead a lesson or lead a small group or even speak from the stage, right?

  315. That'll come.

  316. Just be in prayer for it.

  317. Yeah, that's good.

  318. Well, Mila was mentioning just a second ago that she had a good conversation in her small group last night.

  319. So, Mila, tell us about how that conversation went.

  320. Yeah, so talking about um students leading, um, we had two girls who are on our student ministry lead team leading the class that I typically lead.

  321. So they had the opportunity to teach, and as they were teaching, one of the questions came up that Pastor Jesus had given to them.

  322. And it was basically like, How are you being poured into and how are you pouring into others?

  323. And one of the girls just started talking about her story, and then she was like, The person who I'm pouring into is actually my friend who I've been bringing for quite a while.

  324. And so that friend kind of smiled and kind of nodded her head, and then was like, I actually have something to say about that.

  325. So she started talking about her story.

  326. That's really what it was.

  327. She just started talking about her family life and her friendship with this other girl and where she was at uh biblically and with God.

  328. And she basically expressed the fact that she didn't feel like she could accept Christ because she didn't know enough about him.

  329. And so, you know, me and those other leaders asked, like, what do you mean?

  330. Do you like, do you understand the gospel part of it?

  331. Or are you trying to gain knowledge?

  332. And that way, when you accept him, you're like, I'm ready for whatever you might have for me because I understand um everything that I think I should know.

  333. And she was like, definitely the second one.

  334. I just, by the time that I accept him, I want to be able to jump right into things and share the gospel with people and be excited for it and answer questions like my friend is answering questions for me.

  335. And I was like, totally fair, right?

  336. That's so human of us to be like, I want to be prepared before I take this on.

  337. But I told her, I was like, when I accepted Christ, I was 12 and I literally knew nothing, like literally nothing, except for that Jesus Christ had died for me and that I really mattered to him more than just a passing thought, but my soul is something that he desired, right?

  338. And so I I went through that questioning, but also at the end of uh at the end of being 12, I was like, no, like this is real, and Jesus Christ did die for me, and he did ra raise from the dead, and he ascended back to heaven, and he has a purpose for my life.

  339. And so um, I can get more into that story later.

  340. But I kind of shared that with her, and she just was kind of looking at me and I was like, Well, what are you thinking?

  341. And she was like, I just I think I'm I might just be a little scared.

  342. And I was like, Yeah, sometimes it is scary, and sometimes we get numb to that as a church.

  343. We're just like, Yeah, Jesus, he died and he rose.

  344. And and yeah, and you should believe that.

  345. And but when you sit down and think about it from someone who didn't necessarily grow up in the church, it's like that's a lot to take in.

  346. And I don't know.

  347. And so that conversation truly took up our whole time.

  348. We were there for around 20, 30 minutes just talking about this.

  349. It was the only question that was asked.

  350. Um, but we just continued talking about it, and I talked with her after about her thoughts and and where she was with Christ.

  351. And I feel really confident in the fact that she does understand the gospel.

  352. And so I'm really thankful that she has come consistently to celebration.

  353. I'm also thankful that we have those student leaders because they can communicate with her in a way that I can't, right?

  354. Like I'm having this conversation with her, but then also they're telling their story and they're telling their relationship with Christ, and they're giving the gospel to her and presenting it in a way that is different than the way I could, right?

  355. And so talking about equipping students to equip others, one of my the girls I disciple was was talking to her about her story.

  356. And so it was just it was a proud mom moment.

  357. I was like, wow, like I don't even know that much, but what I do know, I t I I have, you know, the girl in discipling, and then from there she's telling this student who's being so vulnerable.

  358. So that was a really good conversation, and we just really presented her with the gospel, and I was like, there's just there's nothing more that I can try to convince you my words will always fail.

  359. But if you know this to be true in your heart, like then we'll have a follow-up conversation.

  360. And so I think that conversation is definitely coming soon, you know.

  361. Um, I know that God is good and he's faithful, and it's not through me, it truly is just him using me and and the other students and all the leaders.

  362. So so that was my really good conversation.

  363. I'm really happy about it.

  364. I'm very thankful to God because sometimes you just you miss that opportunity.

  365. And I was like, I can't miss this opportunity.

  366. I know the gospel, guys.

  367. So that was my good conversation.

  368. That's good.

  369. There's just two things that encourage me about that conversation.

  370. A, the fact that the gospel is simple enough for a child to understand and to surrender to.

  371. I'm a testimony of that.

  372. I was very young when I came to know Christ as my savior and Lord, and so thankful that I don't I don't have to explain reformed theology to be able to get to heaven.

  373. You know, like I don't I don't I did not get saved knowing all the answers in scripture, and uh that that's by design, that's on purpose.

  374. But then I'm always encouraged whenever I have a student who understands that committing your life to Christ is scary, right?

  375. It's it's like kind of the idea of where C.S.

  376. Lewis uh is writing the Chronicles of Narnia and talking about Aslan.

  377. It's like you know, I I don't remember who I think it's like Lucy.

  378. You're a reader, you y'all are readers, y'all might know better the details, but somebody's like, uh, you know, I'm scared of Aslan.

  379. And it's like, why are you scared of Aslan?

  380. Well, he's not safe.

  381. And whoever is like, yeah, he's not safe, but he is good, you know.

  382. And so I always appreciate it whenever students are like, I don't know if I'm ready to commit to that.

  383. Yeah, it's kind of scary.

  384. It's like, yeah, it is submission to the Lord and obedience to the Lord and and making him just that your Lord, your boss, your master.

  385. It comes with weight.

  386. Like at the end of the day, there are paralyzed people who are dependent on you to say, get up and walk in Jesus' name, right?

  387. And so uh there's a lot at stake in your relationship with the Lord, so it's good to know that.

  388. But at the same time, it's like you absolutely like will be equipped.

  389. Yeah, coming back to the Holy Spirit, coming back to what we've been talking about in Acts, will be equipped with the Holy Spirit.

  390. And honestly, it's just so much better to live life in obedience to Christ.

  391. So if you're if you're listening to this podcast and you're hesitant on just full sending into your relationship with the Lord, just hear it from people who are all around the table, including Zayley over here, who's Mike is Peter, she would tell you it's just much better to live in obedience to the Lord and just go ahead and take that step of faith um into a relationship with him.

  392. So anyway, yeah.

  393. If if if I could just just throw something in there, you know, a term that comes to mind is a term, you know, you've learned, you know, I mean I've studied leadership in a couple of different things, and and the the term is called paralysis analysis.

  394. In the process of trying to figure out all pieces, you're stuck.

  395. You don't move.

  396. Paralysis analysis.

  397. And what's what's a good way to break out of that?

  398. Man, make it simple.

  399. Make it simple.

  400. And like Nola has said, you know, the gospel has been made as simple as a child could understand.

  401. But the gospel is as profound that you can get about 15 PhDs and still don't grab it all.

  402. Yeah, right, which is which is great.

  403. Again, I think a concept we've talked about in student ministry is the incomprehensibility of God, yet the knowability of God.

  404. He's incomprehensible.

  405. Sorry, you're not gonna be able to wrap yourself around it.

  406. You're not gonna be able to understand enough to clearly articulate every single aspect.

  407. He's incomprehensible, right?

  408. Because he's infinite, we're finite, but he's knowable.

  409. All you gotta do is just read the word.

  410. He's made himself knowable, right?

  411. So a way to fight paralysis, analysis, man, keep it simple.

  412. Make a decision.

  413. Always remember, you know, this whole thing about this walk, it isn't necessarily about obedience at the beginning.

  414. I mean, not obedience.

  415. It's not about maturity, right?

  416. It isn't like I need to know enough to get baptized, or I need to know enough.

  417. Man, you just need to be obedient.

  418. Yeah.

  419. This is, you know, it's Jesus your Lord, right?

  420. He's the Lord, he has a kingdom, you're a subject in that kingdom.

  421. You recognize his authority.

  422. Fantastic.

  423. I'm gonna operate within that authority.

  424. I'm also gonna benefit from all the benefits of being part of this kingdom.

  425. So you got that Lord peace.

  426. Then you got a savior.

  427. You see Jesus as your savior?

  428. Yeah, okay.

  429. You need saving, fantastic.

  430. You're qualified.

  431. Lord and savior.

  432. Let's rock and roll it, man.

  433. You know, paralysis, deparalycized, if that's a word.

  434. Zabies laughing, it might not be a word.

  435. That's it.

  436. That's it.

  437. Oh, that's that's right.

  438. That's not in the JSV, the pain two standard version.

  439. I know, I know, I know.

  440. There might be some words in there I might have made up, but that's all right.

  441. That's all right.

  442. Well then.

  443. All right, guys.
