  1. You're listening to The Bible Guys, a podcast where a couple of friends talk

  2. about the Bible in fun, in practical ways. We would like to welcome

  3. you to the Bible Guys. Welcome. Yes, that's that is our genuine

  4. feeling, as we are thrilled that you're here. We are always amazed.

  5. Yes, people keep coming back to the Bible Guys. Yes, and all

  6. the new people that are joining us all the time, Yes, which is

  7. really cool. It's amazing. Welcome new people, Yes, welcome to If

  8. this is your first time in the Bible guys, the new people are here,

  9. and you can go back and binge. And there are four hundred and

  10. three episodes of the Bible Guys to binge in the past, Yes, which

  11. is hysterical. We commented on episode three ninety nine. Yeah, and then

  12. didn't say anything about episode four hundred. That's so funny, right, that's

  13. so us. If you're asking for a synopsis of the Bible, Guys,

  14. we recognize insignificant milestones and miss the big right. Right, that's hilarious,

  15. which just goes to show you that we don't take our those two serious.

  16. That's correct. So today we're going to do a segments at the beginning,

  17. like we always do who's most likely? And so Desireel has written five things,

  18. and we are supposed to just what just vote instinctively very fast? I

  19. think, So, who's most likely to do these things? I think?

  20. Should we say names out loud? Yes? Because what we used to do

  21. is we used to hold up the paddles, paddles with pictures, but you

  22. know two thirds of our crowd can't see paddles and pictures. Was just just

  23. say the first name that comes to mind, Yeah, that's right, okay,

  24. Chris or Jeff, which we always we always did the paddles and we

  25. said the names too. That's correct. So here we go. So who's

  26. most likely? I'll read the first one, all right, Who's most likely

  27. to cut their own hair and think it looks good? Chris or Jeff?

  28. Chris? Definitely Chris. Yes. So I've never cut my own hair.

  29. I have not cut my whole I've not cut my own hair in its entirety.

  30. Okay, but I feel as if if I could sit down and attempt

  31. to cut somebody else's hair, I could do it. So could I really

  32. do my own hair? You know? I think I could try? Okay,

  33. so you know my father was a barber. Yes, that's why I

  34. said, And my mother cuts her Oh wow, she has her own little

  35. beauty shop. There you go in her house. Yeah. So you're going

  36. to just by nature be more skilled genetically, you're predisposed to being better disposed.

  37. All right. You want to go to the second who's most likely to

  38. spend hours in a YouTube conspiracy theory hole? That's Jeff. I think it's

  39. me too, but I will but I will go ahead and say Jeff.

  40. Yeah, so I believe it or not? Uh. The reason why I

  41. said me instinctively, I'll say Jeff because I think I think you're the information

  42. gatherer as I think that I can actually believe some conspiracies. Buddy, you

  43. get sucked into him. I do, And in fact, did you hear

  44. I got I got involved in one where people are just thinking I'm ridiculous.

  45. I'm like, I think there's some merit to this, and and my my

  46. whole family is like, dude, you are ridiculous. So I really I've

  47. been known. I've been known. Yeah yeah, good for you, dude.

  48. Yeah. So one of my strengths you know in the strengths Finder test,

  49. Yes, one of mine is ideation. So ideas capture my attention,

  50. and so I rarely get sucked into a conspiracy theory. But I'm very curious

  51. about the ideas behind conspiracy theories. Why do people believe this or why do

  52. people think that this is true? Okay, right, And so I'll get

  53. sucked into one of those you know, conspiracy theory things, not believing any

  54. of it. But just watch you know, five hours with a video or

  55. read a whole book on see On the opposite, if I if I dive

  56. into conspiracy theory and I decide, if I decide that I don't believe it,

  57. it turn it off. Oh yeah, I don't care why people think.

  58. Yeah, I want to. I always want to figure out what's the

  59. cause or the root cause behind why. So ideation is a thing for me,

  60. the ideas of it is what's interesting to me. All right, three?

  61. Okay, Yeah, who's most likely to win a hot dog eating contest?

  62. I'm gonna say that's me. I'm gonna say that to you too.

  63. I can put down hot dogs, buddy. Yeah, I'm gonna say that

  64. you. Yep, all right, go ahead. Who's most likely to be

  65. mistaken for celebrity? It's gonna be Chris. I'm gonna say me, yes,

  66. I was. By the way, you were a local celebrity, not

  67. a not a real celebrity, right, a local celebrity. So you know

  68. the guy on the radio what's his name Jay? Oh yeah, I've heard

  69. people say that about you before. I don't I don't know, but yeah,

  70. yeah, there's a radio guy that you start like, yeah, well

  71. there's a radio guy that I look like too. In fact, I just

  72. went to The Chosen last night with my wife and I saw season four,

  73. episode seven and eight, and he was on the imagine Imagine it's a local

  74. theater for us, yes, there. It was like a local commercial and

  75. they interviewed like local celebrities, and he was on there. And Liz looks

  76. over and she goes, that's the guy that people say you look like.

  77. That's crazy. His name is Jay something. Yeah, I heard radio I

  78. think maybe is one of this. And then number five, number five,

  79. who's most likely to walk by a celebrity on the street? Oh that's me?

  80. Is that you? Oh yeah? Oh you mean and not acknowledged,

  81. just just walk past them, not even recognize them. Yea, yeah,

  82. yeah, yeah, yeah, well that's me. Yeah, that's probably you.

  83. Although I'll be honest, I've had several stories where I've just just,

  84. you know, not acknowledged celebrities very much. Did you recognize them when you

  85. didn't acknowledge them? Like, okay, Jason Momoa, you know Aquay.

  86. So he walked by us literally at the airport, and as he walked by,

  87. I was like, hey, look, guys, Jason Mama, so

  88. I never see them. The only celebrities I've ever seen in my life.

  89. Yeah. Somebody else pointed out, hey, that's yeah. Yeah, and

  90. I'm standing right there. So I sat next to a rock star. I

  91. got bumped up the first class on the way home from from Saint Croix or

  92. from Dominican Republic. Yeah, I'm sitting next to a rock star. He

  93. comes and he sits down. I look at him just briefly, go I

  94. think I know that guy. He goes, sorry, mate, not big

  95. conversationalists. I'm like me, neither. I put my headphones on, never

  96. try to say another word. Didn't take a picture with him. He gets

  97. off the plane, said hey, Tauld, you stay at rockstar guy.

  98. I sit next to her. He goes, yeah, he said, no,

  99. why, I said, I don't know who it is. I can't

  100. remember who it is. He goes, he didn't ask you. I said,

  101. no, why would I ask you? That's hilarious? Yes, yeah,

  102. so it's I've seen him face before. He's a guitar player for like

  103. a famous rock band. I just couldn't remember who he is. Isn't that

  104. funny? And he said, sorry, mate, Yeah, yeah, yeah?

  105. So the uh uh? But I would say ninety nine percent of the

  106. celebrities I've ever seen, somebody else pointed them out to me. Oh that's

  107. hilarious, isn't it funny? I just I don't don't even see it.

  108. So I have real quick al squeeze the story. And I have a good

  109. friend, Kevin, who lives in Orlando, And he got on the plane

  110. and he sat first class and just started a conversation with this girl next to

  111. him, and he kept on saying, I tell you this. He said.

  112. She was super pretty, like unbelievably pretty, and he was talking to

  113. her. You know, of course, he's shy because he's he's a married

  114. pastor guy, so he's not gonna, you know, necessarily, like strike

  115. up a conversation with a really pretty girl. But she kept on talking to

  116. him. So he was just you know, talking pastorally to her and everything.

  117. So he brings up like spiritual things. They talk all about, like

  118. her faith and whether she believes, and he said he talks to her on

  119. this plane ride to California, I think it was. It was like a

  120. three to four hour trip. Right the entire trip, he's talking to her

  121. like openly, and they're having this incredible conversation. And then he says,

  122. oh, why are you going out to California? And she's while I'm going

  123. out to film a movie. And he goes, oh really, and she's

  124. like, yeah, it's starring and she names these other stars and he goes,

  125. what I know those other stars. She's like really, He's like wow.

  126. And then they get to talking a little bit more and she says,

  127. wow, I was married to I'm divorced. Because they're talking about her life

  128. and he says, oh really, and was it a something like what was

  129. his name? And she's like, well, it was Andrea Agassy and you

  130. know this famous tennis player. And then all of a sudden, he stops

  131. and he goes, wait a minute. He goes, I feel like I

  132. should know you. He goes, I'm so sorry. He goes, what

  133. is your name? They've talked for four hours, and she goes, it's

  134. Brook It's Brookshield and he goes. He goes, I am so sorry that

  135. I didn't recognize you. And she goes, it's okay, it's all right.

  136. She goes, I really enjoy talking to you at pastor Kevin, you

  137. know, he's like, okay, bye and he leaves and anyway, but

  138. we all make fun of him, right, like you talk from Bookshields for

  139. four hours. One of the prettiest women of the face of the planet,

  140. by the way, most recognizable, very recognizable friend, and you know,

  141. and it's so funny. That's funny, Like, how do you not recognize

  142. her? Right? That's me. I just I don't recognize famous people.

  143. Yeah, that's really great. Like I have a hard time recognizing you if

  144. I run into you outside the studio, right again. Yeah, well good

  145. looking guys. Yeah, you know, it's intimidating. Sometimes we blend into

  146. the background. Okay, Well today we have had a couple of episodes recently

  147. where as we're going through the two hundred and fifty events of Jesus and Jesus

  148. Life, we've had a couple of times recently where there were just a few

  149. verses. Yeah, one of those day. This is the least number of

  150. verses in any event we've read so far. Is that true? It's four

  151. verses, because then we have one just over four versus Chris. The last

  152. one was like six. Ok. Yes, so this is four verses.

  153. But there's a lot in this, so I'm looking forward to jumping into it.

  154. Are you ready? Yep? Here goes Matthew, Chapter twenty eight,

  155. verse eleven through fifteen. It's five verses. Oh, you can't count.

  156. I was wrong. I was doing the math. Eleven plus four is fifteen,

  157. but I forgot you had to count. Eleven is a verse? Correct,

  158. it's five verses. Okay, still five is less than six. As

  159. the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city

  160. and told the leading priests what had happened. A meeting with the elders was

  161. called, and they decided to give the soldiers a large bribe. They told

  162. the soldiers, you must say, Jesus disciples came during the night while we

  163. were sleeping, and they stole his body. If the governor hears about it,

  164. we'll stand up for you so you won't get in trouble. So the

  165. guards accepted the bribe and said what they were told to say, and their

  166. story spread widely among the Jews, and they still tell it today. There

  167. you go, that's it. So the guards accepted the bribe and said that

  168. they were told to say, and they spread and their story is spread widely

  169. among the Jews, and they still tell it today. That is a sentence,

  170. there isn't it. Yes, So it's spread widely among the Jews.

  171. Now, keep in mind this is written two thousand years ago. And what's

  172. so interesting is is that it's no secret that if you were to visit,

  173. you know, Israel today, a person who is Jewish in their faith widely

  174. reject and adamantly reject that Jesus was the Messiah, right, right, So

  175. they believe in the Old Testament. And and if somebody is Jewish in their

  176. faith, they would say, hey, where we live in the spot where

  177. the Old Testament ends, and we just wait for we're still waiting for the

  178. Messiah. So and yet they believe one hundred percent of the Old Testament,

  179. right. And so it's interesting how this statement it describes the Jewish belief today,

  180. and yet it was written two thousand years ago, it's correct for almost

  181. two thousand, well actually probably over we're roughly around two thousand years ago.

  182. So it's amazing to me that they're not denying the body was gone. And

  183. even today, even today, I've never had a person say I don't believe

  184. the tomb wasn't empty. I've never never had I've haven't had atheists say it.

  185. I haven't had people from other religions say it, Muslim leaders, Jewish

  186. leaders, Buddhist leaders, Hindu leaders. I've never had another person say the

  187. tomb was not empty. I've only ever heard either he was resurrected or somebody

  188. stole the body. So we're going to take the idea off the table that

  189. the body was still there historically, so this is outside of Christianity, and

  190. this is outside the claims of the gospel. Historically, the Romans were concerned

  191. about the fact. And I'll explain to you why in this a moment,

  192. the Romans were concerned about the fact that the tomb was empty. These religious

  193. leaders, these Jewish reliegless leaders, were also concerned about the fact that the

  194. tomb was empty. Mary and the other Mary and Peter and John said the

  195. tomb was empty. So the Christians are saying the tomb is empty. The

  196. Jewish leaders are saying the tomb is empty. The secular leaders are saying the

  197. tomb is empty. We've got a problem because the tomb is empty is the

  198. way that both the Romans and the Jewish leaders saw it, which should be

  199. an indicator that we should lean into. Why is the toom empty? Right?

  200. Because if the tomb is empty because Jesus was resurrected, well, then

  201. everything he said and did was true. One of your favorite preachers says,

  202. Hey, the guy who says I'm going to rise from the dead in three

  203. days and then does it should listen to him. That's right. If you

  204. can pull that off, you anybody who predicts their own death resurrection pulls it

  205. off, have tendencies to believe that. Let's listen to that guy. So

  206. if that's true and and and he resurrected, then everything else he said and

  207. did we just have to lean into. It's absolute fact. It's the greatest

  208. single event in the human history. Right, this has never happened before.

  209. I don't know if you heard. Buddhists still in the grave, right,

  210. right, Mohammed's still in the grave, so's John Smith. That's right.

  211. John Smith's still in the grave, so but Jesus is not. And so

  212. in this situation, then I would say it's fair for us to say,

  213. let's lean into and try to either disprove or prove the resurrection. And historically

  214. we know that the Romans had a problem with this because here's what they say.

  215. So so the religious leaders go, hey, just here's some money.

  216. Just say that the disciples came and stole them, and if there's a problem

  217. with the government will protect you. The reason why that's such a big deal

  218. is if you lost if you allowed a seal that had been sealed by the

  219. by the uh you know, the governor, or a Roman seal. If

  220. you lost what was sealed, then as a Roman soldier, one of the

  221. things would be death. Yes, if you were assigned to guard a prisoner

  222. and the prisoner gets away, it's death. It's death for the Roman soldier.

  223. If you lose the thing you were supposed to hold, it's death for

  224. the Roman soldier. So this is why they had to say, hey,

  225. listen, here's some money. Just say that this and then we'll go ahead,

  226. and we've got some political clout, we'll protect you with the governor.

  227. That's it. But then there's a note, and this is one of the

  228. reason why you need to get a Life Application Study Bible. I always recommend

  229. the regular Life Application Study Bible instead of the chronological Life Application Study Bible,

  230. and that's one we're using because it's easier to navigate. But anyways, in

  231. there there's a note and it says a document comprising twenty lines of Greek inscribed

  232. on a slab of white marble was discovered in Nazareth in the latter part of

  233. the nineteenth century. The statement was a decree of Caesar assigning the death penalty

  234. to anyone breaking the seal of a tomb and stealing the body. The decree

  235. was issued by Claudius, he was the Caesar at the time in about eighty

  236. fifty. Because Claudius had issued some other decrees against those who followed Christ,

  237. it's believed that the Nazareth decree was aimed at early Christians who were proclaiming that

  238. Jesus Christ had risen from the dead. The rabbis of the time claimed that

  239. jesus disciples came and they stole his body. Whatever his viewpoint on the matter,

  240. Claudius did not wish to encourage theories about the disappearance of bodies from tombs.

  241. The Nazareth decree thus becomes a pointer to the resurrection of Christ, which

  242. was at that time upsetting the Roman world. Claudius apparently took steps to curb

  243. the spread of these disturbing ideas. Is that fabulous? Yeah, so the

  244. caesar of the world, the emperor of the known world, went, well,

  245. this is a problem. Right, he's not saying, surely there's still

  246. a body there. So we have the Roman government has record that they executed

  247. a guy that was called the King of the Jews, right right. They

  248. have a centurion. This isn't some ding dong, you know, private who

  249. just got enlisted. A centurion, a leader of over a hundred soldiers.

  250. He's an expert at what he does. He's been around death all along.

  251. Pierces the side of this guy. Blood and water comes out of his heart

  252. area, and then they take him down. He's dead and they bury him.

  253. The Romans have multiple documented accounts of the fact that this guy's dead and

  254. was put in a tomb. Pilot in a documented way permitted the body to

  255. be taken down by one of the high It would be like a Supreme Court

  256. justice by two of the Supreme Court justices. So this again, this isn't

  257. some breadmaker on the corner. These are Supreme Court justices who take the body

  258. put him in a tomb. All these things are documented by the Romans.

  259. And then finally, in fifty a d another Roman, Caesar goes, yeah,

  260. this is a problem, So no more breaking seals people. If you

  261. do, you're gonna die. Right. So if for me this is one

  262. of the strongest evidences that the resurrection happened, is not the claim of Peter

  263. and Mary. The greatest, some of the greatest proofs to me that the

  264. resurrection actually happened is the cover up, and not only the cover up proclaimed

  265. in the Bible, but the cover up proclaimed by the Romans. Hey,

  266. we have to we have to stop people from stealing bodies. They're claiming the

  267. tomb was empty, right right, yeah, which, by the way,

  268. is uh, yeah, it really eliminates any skeptic trying to prove that Jesus,

  269. you know, this is just religious followers making up a story. Yeah,

  270. it takes the Romans we're concerned about this, yes, right and uh

  271. and by the way, the guards being bribed. It says, a large

  272. bribe, but it doesn't tell us how much. And I'm thinking this is

  273. everything was at stake for them, so literally everything was at stake. The

  274. you know again, I told you that the Chosen has this hypothetical that was

  275. all you know, a lot of hypothetical fill in the blanks. And there

  276. was an argument at the temple. We're at the place where season four ends

  277. and Jesus is about to march in Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. Okay, so

  278. anyway, but people are in the temple and they're arguing. There's a pharisee

  279. there and they're arguing back and forth, and he says, he says,

  280. one guy challenges the pharisee. It was it was the woman who they put

  281. the woman who is bleeding for twelve years. They put her there. She's

  282. healed now and she's in the temple and she says, the reason why you're

  283. you're saying these things against Jesus in the temple right now is because you're afraid

  284. and he has authority over you. Because he just rose laser from the dead.

  285. He has authority over you, and that one day you'll be under his

  286. authority. And he gets mad and he goes, you recant that statement right

  287. now, and she goes, why you're gonna stone her? Or two like

  288. and so it's just like, I mean, it was just it was just

  289. this argument that goes back and forth and again it's just another one of these

  290. things. Even though it's a radical hypothetical, it's another one of these things

  291. that reminds me that, you know, doesn't John say that that the books

  292. can't contain all the other things that Jesus the world could not contain all the

  293. books the world cannot contain written all the books Jesus that need to be written,

  294. which means that there are conversations. There's some hyperbole in that statement,

  295. but the idea of being yes, right, there's there's conversations, there's miracles,

  296. there's things that were not recorded, and surely people had these types of

  297. debates when it says they were arguing the question is what's the dialogue? Right

  298. and so and so as they were, you know, supposing this dialogue,

  299. I was thinking to myself that that's so true, like things like this would

  300. have happened because that was an outrageous statement, Right, you're going to be

  301. under his authority? What this guy just goes outrageous, he goes like nuclear

  302. right, right, And I'm thinking, of course things like this were said,

  303. right because it wasn't necessarily said by let's just say like Peter or you

  304. know things, you know, because those conversations are recorded. But but of

  305. course the people arguing in the temple are going to be saying these types of

  306. things, right, And so anyway, it just it was just great.

  307. You just to sort of sit there and soak it all in and it was

  308. just wonderful. But anyway, what else is in here? Is there anything

  309. else? I mean, I would say, you know, as we look

  310. at the historical proofs and the fact that people from outside of Christianity are claiming

  311. that the tomb is empty, I would encourage our people to lean into some

  312. of the proofs that. There's a really great book by Sean and Josh McDowell

  313. called The Unshakable Truth, and it goes it's it's one of my favorite books

  314. for this. It's easy to read, it's not hard, but it deals

  315. with how can you trust that the Bible is true? All these things?

  316. But there's an entire segment in that book about the proofs of the resurrection.

  317. For instance, of course, Lee Strobel wrote a whole bunch of books that

  318. he was an investigative reporter before he became a Christian, and he became a

  319. Christian because he was investigating the resurrection. So he wrote a couple books.

  320. He wrote a book called The Case for Christ, which is really great.

  321. He interviews all these experts from around the world, and then from there the

  322. Case for the Real Jesus, the Case for a Creator. You can go

  323. on down the line, but both Josh and Sean McDowell, Josh and Sean

  324. McDowell and Lee Strobel would be too that if you want to lean into the

  325. proofs of the resurrection from outside of just Creator, from outside the Christian world,

  326. those two guys that be worth their three guys to be worth looking at

  327. what they have to say. Great, I agree, and I've read several

  328. of the books that you just mentioned and they're phenomenal and they hold up.

  329. They're old, but they still hold up today. Yeah, this turns out,

  330. so's the resurrections like two thousand years old. So it's okay if you're

  331. reading old book. That's so funny. All right, Well, hey,

  332. that's our time, so we will see you next time on the Bible guys,
