  1. You're listening to The Bible Guys, a podcast where a

  2. couple of friends talk about the Bible in fun, in

  3. practical ways. Well, Kyle, here we are right, we're the

  4. Bible Guys. I'm Jeff, he's Kyle. Chris is out of

  5. town today, and we are wrapping up this week's episodes

  6. with a really dynamic story. There's some big choices, the

  7. big decisions that the people are gonna have to make

  8. here because they've been at this moment before, yes, and

  9. they made the wrong choice. So this time they're gonna

  10. have to make a big choice. But before we jump

  11. into that, speaking of choices, big choices, big choices, Speaking

  12. of choices, I thought I would take you on a

  13. journey of would you rather? Chris, and I always like these,

  14. So would you rather do this? And so you have

  15. to take these as like, would you rather have it

  16. always be this way or always that's what we're doing? Okay,

  17. right here we go. Would you rather have to always

  18. speak in rhymes or always speak in riddles? Oh? Would

  19. you rather have everything always rhyme? Or would you always

  20. have to rather I always have to speak in riddles?

  21. I think it'd be fun to always be able to

  22. speak in rhymes, you'd be.

  23. Like a rapper exactly.

  24. Then maybe my, my, my, my wrap can finally flourish.

  25. I've been waiting for that to finally take off. But yeah,

  26. I'm gonna go with the rhymes. I like that one better. Okay, Okay,

  27. that's good.

  28. Would you rather have spaghetti for hair or maple syrup

  29. for sweat? Oh, spaghetti for hair, Spaghetti for hair or

  30. maybe for sweat? Dude? Oh, I like my hair.

  31. It's gray a lot, but my hair is still pretty deep.

  32. I'm gonna keep my hair and I'll take the maple

  33. syrup for sweat.

  34. Okay, So I just before you make that choice, Okay,

  35. what about those hot nights okay, right where you just

  36. kind of or when you're sick and you get a fever, right,

  37. you just be all sticky?

  38. Yeah, and I do play hockey, which is weird because

  39. when it's a weird sports play because when you sweat

  40. and then it gets cold, so it's a weird thing.

  41. So maybe just be like sticky inside of your hockey.

  42. I'm gonna I'm gonna stick with maple syrup.

  43. So you'd rather still went out? Okay, nothing about spaghetta

  44. would you rather always smell like cheese or always smell

  45. like onions?

  46. Oh my gosh, it's terrible. That is terrible. What's the

  47. worst of two evils here? Smell like cheese or smell

  48. like onions?

  49. I gotta so.

  50. Do you think onions smell bad? Personally old onions?

  51. Yes?

  52. I think when the onions are chopped up, like when

  53. they're fresh like they oh, man, smell like onions versusmell

  54. like cheese. I don't know, Man, this is tough. I'm

  55. gonna go with smelling like.

  56. Wait, before you have that question, always which which is

  57. your wife repulsed most by? Yeah?

  58. I know that's a tough one. So she does not

  59. like cooked onions. I'm thinking like, can I say chopped

  60. onions like fresh?

  61. Yeah?

  62. I'd like to smell like.

  63. Fresh, fresh chopped onions over smell like cheese.

  64. Okay, okay, although I'm not excited about that.

  65. Okay, here's here's one that I've never I promise you

  66. I have never contemplated this. Okay, I bet would you

  67. rather have fingers as long as your legs or legs

  68. as short as your fingers?

  69. This is terrible. This is a great visual though, fingers

  70. as long as your legs, fingers as long as your

  71. legs or legs as long as your fingers. Oh my gosh, wow.

  72. I'm gonna go.

  73. I'm gonna go the first one. Imagine how sweet i'd

  74. be like dunk in a basketball super long fingers. Yeah,

  75. I think it's as long as your legs. Yeah, how heavy?

  76. Would your hands be very heavy? But dude, imagine yeah

  77. boo picking up a basketball. I think I could you

  78. find some usefulness in that we're having finger length feet.

  79. Yeah?

  80. Okay, I'm also kind of impaid, like to move quickly.

  81. You know, we like to go place as quickly, and

  82. so I couldn't imagine that'd be a tough one.

  83. Okay, let me see. Would you rather only be able

  84. to whisper or be able to shout everything you say? Oh? Man?

  85. I know people who are quiet talkers, yeah, and I

  86. know people who are loud, which wanted to annoy you more.

  87. The ones that make me mad are the loud.

  88. I was just gonna say, I think i'd rather, if

  89. I had to give get the option, I'd say I'd

  90. rather always whisper be the person that's yeah, because it's

  91. sometimes when there someone's just like not reading the room

  92. and I can be that person's But I know people

  93. like that where they're just so loud. They're on one

  94. hundred all the time, and you're like, come on, turn

  95. it down. Where's the whisperers? You know, sometimes whispers they

  96. kind of like draw you in.

  97. My wife and I were on a train from Vienna

  98. to Venice. So it's like a seven and a half

  99. hour train ride, and you come up along the edge

  100. of the Dolomites. It's beautifully beautiful mountains, all this stuff,

  101. and we were we were in first class, but this

  102. guy comes in. These two guys come in. I think

  103. they boarded with us, and the one guy talked so

  104. loudly for seven he fell us sleep from like maybe

  105. about thank you, but for five hours of the seven

  106. hours he talked so loudly. I have noise canceling headphones.

  107. And I wasn't feeling well, so I was feeling a

  108. little sick on that On that that train ride, I'd

  109. gotten an infection, so I had a little bit of

  110. a fever. I wasn't feeling well, and I'm thinking, I

  111. want to sleep so first class, I can leave my

  112. seat way back all that kind of stuff. So I

  113. have noise canceling headphones. I put those on. I can

  114. still hear this guy talking, right, and you've got the

  115. of the train. It should just put you to sleep.

  116. It's great, right, Nope, this guy talking so loudly and

  117. so the you couldn't miss anything you said, and it

  118. was all inane, like none of it mattered. It felt

  119. like you talked five hours of nothing, right, and so

  120. it's just so I put on my noise canceling headphones.

  121. I can still hear. It's the only thing I can hear.

  122. It is so nauseating when you're like trying to block

  123. a thing out you cannot.

  124. So I got up and I got my ear plugs

  125. out of my my thing out of my backpack, and

  126. I put foam you're plugs in, and then my noise

  127. kind of sending headphones on over top, and then I

  128. couldn't hear him. Finally I was able to go to sleep.

  129. So finally, after like an hour and a half, you know,

  130. I took this little nap, I wake up. I take

  131. it off, and he still so loud, and that his

  132. companion was kind of like this where I'm talking, talking, talking,

  133. and you just keep going. Yeah. Yeah, that was his

  134. companion for seven hours was like uh huh, yeah, dude, think.

  135. About how his companion felt though you were just ready

  136. for him to shut up, but the companion actually had

  137. to act engage in the conversation.

  138. So hey, this is going to be a bonus segment

  139. for our listeners because this is what made Jeff mad

  140. this week. Right, So Chris always has a way so

  141. on behalf of all of the people in the world.

  142. I get mad about loud talker. Loud talkers in places

  143. where they should have a little bit more of a

  144. filter aware the fact that this is a quiet space,

  145. not a loud space. So i'ld like to add on

  146. to that. You want to pile on so you have

  147. a what made Kyle mad this week so is because

  148. it just reminded me.

  149. I think the loud talkers where it's a little bit

  150. of like low self awareness because I have a louder voice.

  151. I think something, but like you know, you kind of

  152. read the room once in a while and wife goes yeah.

  153. But it's like an airplane as an example, either the

  154. airplane or when you're waiting to get on the plane

  155. and people will be watching like YouTube videos on full

  156. blast or Instagram reels or TikTok or whatever, and it's

  157. full blast, and you're like, I was so tempted. And

  158. then you know, there's moments where you just kind of

  159. feel like a jerk when you're on public and you're like,

  160. but this person was I wanted so badly to offer

  161. him my free uh headphones that they give you on

  162. the airplane, and because I had one that I'd gotten

  163. on a previous fight and it was still package. I

  164. want to so badly to a guy who was just

  165. for an hour or two straight, We're sitting there waiting

  166. playing you know a lot of them inappropriate My kids

  167. are sitting there very inappropriate videos. I wanted so bad

  168. to be like, you might need these more than I do.

  169. Oh my gosh, Yes, it's frustrating.

  170. Come okay, well, hey there we go. We got two

  171. We got two segments in there. Yeah, well I said two.

  172. Fair. I'm all fired up though, yeah, sweat.

  173. Well, as I mentioned before, we jumped in to this,

  174. there's a big decision to be made because the people

  175. of Israel have found themselves at this situation before, and

  176. that's what this hole would you rather thing was about.

  177. So in Joshua chapter What's the passage for reading Joshua

  178. Chapter three one. Here's what it says. The Israelites are

  179. up at the River Jordan. At this point they've already

  180. spied out the land again. The report is, hey, we

  181. can take them. Everybody's terrified of us. And so early

  182. the next morning, Joshua and all the Israelites left to

  183. Kesha Grove and arrived at the banks of the Jordan River,

  184. where they camped before crossing. Three days later. The Israelite

  185. officers went through the camp, saying, give these instructions to

  186. the people. When you see the levitical priests carrying the

  187. Ark of the Covenant of the Lord your God, move

  188. out from your positions and follow them. Since you've never

  189. traveled this way before, they will guide you. Stay about

  190. a half mile behind them, keeping a clear distance between

  191. you and the ark. Make sure you've not come any closer. Then,

  192. Joshua told the people, fire yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord

  193. will do great wonders among you. In the morning, Joshua

  194. said to the priests, lift up the Ark of the

  195. Covenant and lead the people across the river. And so

  196. they started out and went ahead of the people. The

  197. Lord told Joshua today, I will begin to make you

  198. a great leader in the eyes of all the Israelites.

  199. They will know that I am with you, just as

  200. I am with Moses. Give this command of the priests

  201. who carry the Ark of the Covenant. When you reach

  202. the banks of the river Jordan River, take a few

  203. steps into the river and stop there. So Joshua told

  204. the Israelites, come and listen to what the Lord your

  205. God says. Today. You will know that the Living God

  206. is among you. He will surely drive out the Canaanites,

  207. the Hittites, the high Bites, the Parizites, the Gurgashites, the Amorites,

  208. and Jebusites. Ahead of you, look, the Ark of the Covenant,

  209. which belongs to the Lord of the whole Earth, will

  210. lead you across the Jordan River. Now, choose twelve men

  211. from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe. The

  212. priests will carry the Ark of the Lord, the Lord

  213. of all the Earth. As soon as their feet touched

  214. the water, the flow of water will because off upstream,

  215. and the river will stand up like a wall. So

  216. the people left their camp to cross the Jordan and

  217. the priests who were carrying the Ark of the Covenant

  218. went ahead of them. It was the harvest season and

  219. the Jordan was overflowing its banks. But as soon as

  220. the feet of the priests who were carrying the arc

  221. touched the water at the river's edge, the water above

  222. that point began backing up a great distance away at

  223. a town called Adam, which is near Zarathan, and the

  224. water below that point float on to the dead sea

  225. until the riverbed was dry. Then all the people crossed

  226. over near the town of Jericho. Meanwhile, the priests who

  227. were carrying the Ark of the Lord's Covenant stood on

  228. the dry ground in the middle of the river bed

  229. as the people passed by. They waited there until the

  230. whole nation of Israel had crossed the Jordan on dry ground.

  231. Yeah that's good. Yeah, that's a wild story. That's a

  232. crazy story.

  233. And then we talked about this before, but you said

  234. that anywhere between one and three million people you know,

  235. going through this, So think about that, like, because I think,

  236. you know, when you don't take that into context, the

  237. amount of people, you just think, oh, they just you.

  238. Know, crossed over real quick.

  239. Like how long would that have I mean, that would

  240. have taken a very long time to hours, Yeah, to

  241. get you know, one point five whatever, two million people

  242. across that is, that's that's wild.

  243. Yeah, So it was how many miles north? Did it

  244. start to back up in that near that town called Adam?

  245. Did it say how many miles? It was twelve minute?

  246. Uh big? The arc of the Covenant began backing up

  247. a great distance at the town called Adam, yep, which

  248. is near Zarathan. So they're in a kasha grove. Do

  249. we have a map, Yeah, there's a map here in

  250. the in the thing. It looks like it was about

  251. twenty miles north. Yeah, you see that, yep. So as

  252. you if you ever get a chance, this is one

  253. of the things, man, you should get yourself a good

  254. study Bible. I love that life application study Bible. I

  255. know a lot of times we talk about this chronological

  256. life application study Bible. It's useful for what we're doing

  257. where we're trying to go in the order of things.

  258. For practical Bible study. Just get a regular life application

  259. study Bible with a new living translation. That's what you use, right,

  260. isn't that same way?

  261. So?

  262. But in it there's a map here, and then it

  263. gives you scale, right, it shows you where the city

  264. where the Acacia Grove was, and where the plains of

  265. Moab are and then where Adam is about twenty miles north,

  266. give or take. So it starts to back up there,

  267. the water starts to stand up. Then the water runs

  268. past down into the sea, the Dead Sea, and then

  269. everything is dry. So they had miles and miles and

  270. miles across. It wasn't like you had three million people

  271. getting in line and we're going, you know, three hundred

  272. people wide across the river. It was miles. God backed

  273. up so much of the river and it's during flood season.

  274. This miracle, quite honestly, some some archaeologists, some historians would

  275. say this was a bigger miracle than God making the

  276. Red Sea, dividing the Red Sea and drying that because

  277. of the flowing water during flood stage of the Jordan

  278. River and the amount of people.

  279. I think the different to be with the Red Sea

  280. would just be the adversary like with having faro. Oh

  281. that probably sure, Yeah, yeah yeah. When you read this,

  282. you's like, hold the what just happened?

  283. Like this? Just say I'm talking about the sheer amount

  284. of water. This is more water move incredible.

  285. Yes, One of the things that stood out that I

  286. think you know when you read over it. You know

  287. Joshua telling the people purify yourselves for tomorrow the Lord

  288. will do great wonders among you. Just to read this

  289. note on here it says before entering the Promised Land,

  290. the Israelites were to perform a purification ceremony. This was done, Uh,

  291. this is often done before making a sacrifice, or is

  292. in this case before witnessing a great act of God.

  293. And said a person could become unclean for many reasons,

  294. which we.

  295. Know about that, right, we see that.

  296. But but here it says God used these various outwards

  297. signs of uncleanliness to illustrate a person's inward uncleanliness that

  298. comes as a result of sin. So this purification ceremony

  299. pictured the importance of approaching God with a pure heart.

  300. So like the Israelites, we need God forgiveness before we

  301. approach him.

  302. Wow.

  303. So it's important right that that was step one purification.

  304. This is a part of the communion act that we

  305. should have you know in the in First Gritians chapter eleven. Listen,

  306. you should go and read First Corinthians chapter eleven again.

  307. One you have to remember communion in their day, the

  308. Lord's supper was a meal. It was the Passover meal, right,

  309. and so it was like Thanksgiving dinner, and everybody'd rush in.

  310. It was a huge party. You drink all the wine,

  311. you gobble up all the food, you eat until you

  312. can't hardly move. That was the idea. It wasn't supposed

  313. to be that way, but that's what it had become.

  314. And especially among the gentiles who didn't understand the passover,

  315. so they just come in and just eat, you know,

  316. And so Paul is having to remind them, Hey, the

  317. Lord gave me this, you know, don't do that. And

  318. then he talks about, as a matter of fact, you

  319. should check yourself. You should consider whether or not in

  320. this moment, you're worthy of receiving communion. Right. It's because

  321. some people are sick, some people even die because of

  322. the fact that they're receiving communion unworthily. And not that

  323. you and I are ever totally worthy, but Jesus makes

  324. us worthy. But the idea here is that we should

  325. consider where are we at with God. It's almost a

  326. purification moment. It's a moment of confessing sin, purging this sin,

  327. of saying, God, I recognize that I've allowed these things

  328. to creep back in my life. I'm asking you to

  329. forgive me, purify me, make me worthy to receive this

  330. moment of communion where I'm remembering Jesus' death right, his sacrifice,

  331. the punishment he took in his body, and the payment

  332. that he paid with his blood. And so even in

  333. modern Christianity, we should still have this purification moment, this

  334. moment of re engaging with God in a serious way

  335. before we just run off and take the thing we want. Yes,

  336. because what they want is the Promised Land. Yes, we've

  337. been wandering around for a generation, and now we're going

  338. to get it. Let's just run across the river and

  339. go and celebrate. Joshua goes hey, calm down, purify.

  340. Well, that's all I was going to say. I think

  341. you've already mentioned a couple of times. But the fact

  342. that they've been here before, right, But is this.

  343. What they did before? No?

  344. No, So it's so interesting that they actually took a

  345. different The story changed and the outcome, the result changed

  346. when they did it God's way.

  347. Right before you enter.

  348. Here's we're we're going to go through this cleanliness ceremony

  349. and remember you know what God has done or and

  350. and and pure or sorry pure fa purification ceremony. And

  351. I think it's really awesome to see that, Like literally

  352. before Josh was ready to do that. He said, Hey,

  353. we're gonna we're starting new here, and this is what

  354. we're gonna do. We're gonna, you know, purify ourselves before

  355. the Lord.

  356. I think it's really you haven't been here before. He

  357. literally says that you haven't been here before. Anytime you

  358. come up to a new thing, a new moment, it's

  359. worth recognizing, Hey, this is a holy moment. I haven't

  360. been here before. God. You're getting ready to be a

  361. new parent, you're getting ready to go into you know,

  362. you're getting ready to get married. You're getting ready to

  363. be a new parent, You're you're you're raising teenagers. Suddenly

  364. you've never done this before. You have an opportunity for

  365. a new job or a new career. Those are all

  366. holy moments. Right. You didn't you didn't create that, God

  367. gave you that. This is a this is a new

  368. season of life that God has giving you. Now you're

  369. you're an empty nester for the first time. What do

  370. I do with retirement in the future? Right, these are

  371. all holy moments. Holy seasons, and you haven't been here before.

  372. When you get to a moment where you say, okay,

  373. I haven't been here before. Pause, cleanse yourself, surrender to

  374. God again. And then do you know what else he did?

  375. And I was going to comment on the other side

  376. of this. In verse nine, Joshua tells the Israelites come

  377. and listen to what the Lord your God says, and

  378. he sits down. They want to rush across the river,

  379. and he goes, hey, hey, before we run, let's not

  380. get out ahead of ourselves. Let's remember again what God said.

  381. This isn't what we want to do. This is what

  382. God is telling us to do. And so the note here,

  383. which I just love in life, have kiss said Bibes says.

  384. Just before crossing over into the Promised Land, Joshua gathered

  385. the people to hear the words of the Lord. Remember,

  386. they just purified themselves. They confess their sin, they get clean,

  387. they get right with God, and then they sit down

  388. with God's word. That's what they're doing back to back

  389. before they go rushing in. And it says no doubt

  390. their excitement was high. They wanted to rush on, but

  391. Joshua made them stop and listen. We live in a

  392. fast paced age where everyone rushes just to keep up.

  393. It's easy to get caught up in our task asks,

  394. becoming too busy for what God says is most important.

  395. Listening to his words before making your schedule. Take time

  396. to focus on what God wants from all of your activities.

  397. Knowing what God has said before you rush into your

  398. day can help you avoid foolish mistake preaching. Right, isn't

  399. this fantastic? Good? Yeah? And so I want to commend

  400. our listeners and our viewers. Right, this is what you're doing.

  401. You're taking twenty minutes many of you. I know, based

  402. on the fact that I look at all the demographics

  403. and the metrics behind the scenes on YouTube and on

  404. Spotify and all those things. Most of our listeners listen

  405. before noon. Yeah, right, that's how they're starting their day,

  406. or they're ending their day this way. They're coming in

  407. just before they go to sleep at night. Then there's

  408. another big russia people who listen in the evenings at

  409. nighttime before the go to bed. But there's something about

  410. that saying, Hey, I'm going to bracket my day with

  411. God's word. I'm going to hear what God has to say,

  412. you know. So, for if you're a morning person, you

  413. get up an extra thirty minutes early and listen to

  414. Chris and Jeff for Kyle and Jeff talking about the Bible.

  415. That's what you're doing, is you're taking God's words and

  416. you're getting some of God God's thoughts in your head.

  417. Not that my words or your words are God's thoughts,

  418. but we're using God's word yep, right, yep ye, And

  419. so you're experiencing those things. Or if you're not a

  420. morning person, finishing your day before you go to sleep,

  421. your brain tends to work through the last few things

  422. you put in your head. Most people are putting politics

  423. and Facebook in their head right right before they go

  424. to sleep, and wonder why they're miserable on that word.

  425. Maybe if they'd spend more time taking God's word into

  426. their minds and in there they sleep better too. But

  427. then what happens is you tend to wake up with

  428. whatever you were thinking last is the beginning of has

  429. an effect on your day the next day. So there's

  430. something to that, you know. I think the best thing

  431. my mom and dad did for me and my three

  432. brothers was every morning and every evening we had devotions

  433. in the morning, my dad would leave whatever he was

  434. reading in the Bible because he'd always leave for work

  435. at four thirty in the morning, so he would leave

  436. a note, Hey, read this passage and here's a big

  437. idea every day for us. And so at breakfast we're all,

  438. you know, shoving raising brand in our mouth. Well, my

  439. mom reads the verse and then we all have to

  440. kind of give an idea. What do we think that

  441. passage means? So my mom and dad were not content

  442. to read a verse. They always wanted us to sort

  443. out what does it mean?

  444. Right?

  445. So what does this mean to us? What do you

  446. think your dad was trying to tell us by reading

  447. this verse today? Whatever? And then in the evening I

  448. would say, six out of seven nights, from the time

  449. I was twelve years old to the time well eight

  450. years old, probably until the time I was I graduated

  451. high school, six out of eight nights a week, or

  452. six out of seven nights a week, we would read

  453. whatever the current proverb was. So today is what's the day?

  454. Today the twenty eight four fourth, No, today's the seventeenth,

  455. today's the twenty fifth, Yeah, twenty July twenty fifth, Yeah,

  456. July twenty fifth. So we would read Proverbs twenty five cool,

  457. and then my dad would always make we couldn't finish

  458. devotions until we go all the way are on the

  459. room and everybody, Mom, dad, me, my brothers. We would

  460. have to share. This verse jumped off the page. And

  461. this is what I think it means in how to

  462. ply my life. So Proverbs is just a book of wisdom. Yeah, right,

  463. So I think there's a level of wisdom you get

  464. on how to live life just by spending every single

  465. day taking in God. Say, this is how life works.

  466. Live this way, right, So those two elements doctrinally in

  467. the morning wisdom. At night, we meditated on the word

  468. of God to the point that there's an advantage I

  469. think that God gave me through my parents that I've

  470. got fifteen hundred verses that I memorized in my lifetime.

  471. This that meditating on God's word. And I think if

  472. you have it in you and then you pause to

  473. think about it, then you're going to be well. You

  474. might go, I don't have fifteen Bible verse fifteen hundred

  475. Bible verses, memorize, Okay, learn five right, spend spend thirty

  476. minutes in God's word today, and all you're looking for

  477. is guidance today. So in this moment, he says, you

  478. haven't been here before. Get right with God, spend some

  479. time in his word, then we'll go in. But don't

  480. just go rushing. A lot of people rush into new careers,

  481. rush into relationships, rush into new families, rush into whatever

  482. without purifying themselves spending time with God getting holy again,

  483. and then spend a time in his word and getting direction.

  484. Yeah, I think it's a proverbats that says that man

  485. makes his plans, but the Lord establishes his step steps.

  486. And I look at that and I think that in

  487. this day and age and even myself sometimes it's like

  488. oftentimes it's like Kyle makes his plans and then Kyle

  489. makes creates the steps right, and the Bible is that

  490. like following God is the opposite what we see Joshua

  491. doing here with all these people as the opposite that

  492. it's like no, no, no, Before we even step forward, we

  493. consult him, We go to him for id like you're saying,

  494. meditate on him. And then even your the fifteen hundred verses,

  495. I'm close to you, very close, probably like but it's

  496. something I try to work on because even when I

  497. talk to my kids even about this, and we try,

  498. we do daily devotionals and all that, and I'm like,

  499. you know what you want is you know, the Bible

  500. talks about having the Word written on your heart, and

  501. it's the sight of it just being like it's a

  502. part of who you are. And the cool thing is

  503. about the fact that the Bible is alive, it's God breathed.

  504. It works.

  505. So a verse that may may have been written on

  506. my heart and spoke to me in a certain way

  507. years ago is different today. And it's not that the verse.

  508. It's not that the God's Word has changed at all.

  509. It's just that it's alive and it's active, and all

  510. of a sudden, I see things right, And I'm sure

  511. you're the same way. Without fifteen hundred verses, there's probably

  512. certain verses now that you're like, oh my gosh, it's

  513. it shows you how alive it is. It's a living

  514. organism that's changing the way you process it.

  515. So yeah, I think that there's in not just listening

  516. to the word or just hearing the word. Faith comes

  517. by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Bible

  518. says that there's a great value in listening. But a

  519. lot of the power that my mom and dad had

  520. behind that family devotion was making us contemplate. So how

  521. does that apply being the doer? Not just reading the word,

  522. but what should I do as a result of it?

  523. And so let's say that you don't have a family.

  524. You know, you're not sitting down having devotions with a

  525. whole group of people right now, You're just having faith.

  526. So I have a friend that he says he has

  527. the exact same discipline in his life, but it's through journaling.

  528. So every day he reads, he writes out at the

  529. top of his page in the little journal I'm reading,

  530. you know, Joshua, chapter two or chapter three, one through seventeen,

  531. and then he'll write down three or four of these

  532. little nuggets like we just talked about that we saw

  533. and say, I think God is saying this today to me.

  534. That's good, right, this is what it means to me

  535. and what I should do about it? It's the so what, Yeah,

  536. that's what you say? Why to God? Have me read

  537. this today? And I think this might be it? And

  538. then all throughout the whole world to the Timothy initiative,

  539. we train all of our young Timothy's to have this.

  540. When you're done reading the word of God, articulate because

  541. of this I will. That's good. That's it. And that's

  542. what my mom and dad used to push us to

  543. do too. Not just read these words and say this

  544. is what it must mean, but this is what I

  545. will do because of it. So if you're going to

  546. be disciplined like him, like Joshua, God had said, listen,

  547. be strong and courageous, meditate on my word, Obey everything

  548. I have to say, and I will make you wildly successful.

  549. So this is exactly what he's saying. This is exactly

  550. what he's leading people do. Get right with God. We're

  551. going to go hear from him. Then we're going to

  552. go do what he tells us to do. And they

  553. were wildly successful. Yeah, right in this, in this moment.

  554. So having this I will moment is the most important thing.

  555. When you go into a church service, walk out and go, Okay,

  556. because of what I heard today, I'm going to do this. Yeah,

  557. let's every time, and then execute on that and you

  558. begin applying God's word, not just knowing God's word. When

  559. you apply God's word, that's where the success comes from.

  560. And I would also remember reading something a few years

  561. ago where it said that it was it was some

  562. sociologists was saying that you can only really apply one

  563. lesson like life less at a time, which is interesting.

  564. I don't know how how long that lasts for a

  565. but people, every single person, you know, we think we

  566. can just learn a bunch of lessons and apply them.

  567. But I like your idea there, or your friend's idea

  568. of taking the journaling and saying today, I'll do this

  569. because we think about how so often we start our

  570. day right with news and constant consumption of media and

  571. thoughts and opinions or whatever, but then really we don't

  572. apply any of it. We don't just it's just information

  573. overload or whatever. So to go to scripture, to go

  574. to the truth and actually say here's the thing I'm

  575. going to do with that, I think that changes everything.

  576. And I remember that lesson throughout the day.

  577. It's so good. Yeah, So for this lesson today, maybe

  578. your I will is because of what I read today,

  579. I'm going to remember every time I come up to

  580. a new big opportunity, I'm going to have a purification

  581. moment where I confess my sin, I get right with

  582. God and then I'm going to lean into what his

  583. words say. That's where I go running into the odds.

  584. Great.

  585. Yeah, that's great that I will. Yeah, that's great. So anyways, Hey,

  586. this is a good conversation man. Thanks for joining me

  587. this week, but I really enjoyed it. Yeah. Tons of

  588. fun and we look forward to seeing you again in

  589. the next time on the Bible. Guys, see you
