  1. You're listening to The Bible Guys, a podcast where a

  2. couple of friends talk about the Bible in fun, in

  3. practical ways.

  4. Hey, everybody, welcome back to another episode of the Bible Guys.

  5. We are going to kick off this episode with one

  6. of our favorite.

  7. Things that I like to do. That's right, right, because

  8. because we are dedicated to giving you great news.

  9. Yes, and and and now us being you know, both

  10. of us quite gifted athletes in our day.

  11. Yeah, well yeah, yeah, I'm in.

  12. So this is a sports edition.

  13. I know that you say that tongue in cheek, but

  14. that that is true your Yeah, were you? I was?

  15. I was? I was a decent.

  16. Yeah so yeah, yeah, and so this is a sports

  17. edition of a new segment. Right, So we're doing a

  18. sports segment today, and this is incredibly important. We only

  19. bring from the finest sources, and of course we think

  20. the finest source of any kind of news on the

  21. Internet is the Babylon b Yes.

  22. Right, so, which is more reliable than most news.

  23. Absolutely, you can trust them more. There's more truth in

  24. what they write. If you don't know the Babylon Bez

  25. a satire website, very very funny, you should look them

  26. up anyways, Here's what it says. Here's the article today.

  27. This is the sports edition. Referees annoyed as football game

  28. keeps interrupting their penalty.

  29. Calls, which is accurate.

  30. Kansas City, Kansas referees at a recent Chiefs game were

  31. reportedly less than thrilled to find that an NFL football

  32. game kept interrupting their penalty calls. According to several reps

  33. at the game, the teams of players lining up and

  34. trying to move the football across the field quote totally

  35. messed up their attempts to keep calling random calls from

  36. the favorite Patrick Mames. I blame the coaches, always trying

  37. to get their players to get another play going, said

  38. head referee Chut Brand as he adjusted his inch and

  39. a half thick glasses.

  40. Nice. Nice, We're all.

  41. Busy here trying to invent calls people never even seen before,

  42. so that our homie Mames could kick butt by all

  43. these loser football players keep getting in the way, really

  44. really disrespectful.

  45. While fans have tended to take rather dim views of

  46. the referees complaints, one source here referred to as quote

  47. Patrick Metric poems to protect his identity, claims that the

  48. ref's grievance is completely valid. At publishing time, NFL referees

  49. had decided to teach those upstart players a real lesson

  50. by awarding the next three games to Mahomes. Is a

  51. penalty for starting a play that's so good.

  52. So, because that was such a quick segment, let me

  53. ask you this question. Do you believe I mean, I'm

  54. a skeptic. I always had said that from the stage, Yes,

  55. but I truly am a skeptic. I'm not sure people

  56. understand just how skeptical my brain actually is. But like

  57. when I start to see things that really look fishy

  58. and they're hard to believe, Like I'm absolutely convinced that

  59. things happen.

  60. Like you know, when you watch NFL.

  61. You're like, there's no way there's a conspiracy, no way

  62. that they're trying to control an outcome. You know, there's

  63. no way that Patrick Mahomes will slide, you know, and

  64. not cross the end zone. He's gonna let the clock

  65. run down the last twelve seconds because that would have

  66. covered the spread. And by the way, the swing is

  67. one billion dollars of bets.

  68. But he's sliding.

  69. He's not going to be on the take for a

  70. million dollars, or the referees want Mahome to win, Mahomes

  71. to win because the Chiefs bring in so much momentum

  72. with Taylor Swift and all those kind of things. I

  73. am actually convinced that there is some of that going

  74. on in.

  75. His favor for the Chiefs. I'm for Mahomes.

  76. Well, I mean not just that.

  77. I just think in general the refs are on the take.

  78. I think that there's some of that that goes.

  79. On, you know, so on an individual basis perhaps, but

  80. I don't think for advantage, but more as a fan.

  81. I think I think it's impossible for refs not to

  82. be fans and to have maybe rose colored glasses for

  83. the ours versus the average player, you know that kind.

  84. Of like in their hearts, they want to see my

  85. home succeeds.

  86. They believe he did succeed right, right, right, So I

  87. think that there's there's some of that, But to think

  88. that there's a conspiracy behind it. The refs just don't

  89. get paid enough money. So somebody would have told the

  90. world because they would make more money writing a book

  91. about it than they would than they ever will in

  92. their careers. Yeah right, yeah, So so if they ever

  93. if somebody actually broke that in a in a book

  94. or in a news thing, they would be so rich

  95. and they're not. So you know, man alive when you

  96. have the vice president United States turn on a president

  97. in what eleven days or something right dere in Watergate,

  98. and he was offering to protect everybody, right, So you

  99. get the most powerful person in the world offering to

  100. protect you, and they roll over on them and then

  101. they all go right. Books later, I think it would

  102. happen some ref over the one hundred and some odd

  103. years that football has been going would have exposed it. Yeah,

  104. well it was conspiracy as opposed to just bias.

  105. Of course, I believe that.

  106. I believe that it's going to happen in some ref

  107. that's what you're saying, but I'm saying it's way bigger

  108. than that. So like, for instance, it happened for me

  109. last year when it was an unlikely comeback. It was

  110. the Chiefs, and I remember like they were going to

  111. come back, and he was running toward the end zone

  112. and there was nobody around him within like fifteen yards

  113. and all he had to do was cross the end zone.

  114. But he takes a slide on the two yard line.

  115. What all he had to do was take a knee

  116. on the next drive, right on the next down, right,

  117. because he got the first down, and had he just

  118. taken two more steps, the industry, the betting industry, would

  119. have lost a billion dollars.

  120. Well, how many seconds were left in the clock, like twelve?

  121. Well that's why. That's why. So he doesn't want to

  122. score a touchdown and give the ball back to the

  123. other team with top seconds.

  124. I do understand that.

  125. Yeah, maybe that's the clock management thing there.

  126. Maybe I'm wrong then, Yeah.

  127. Anyway, all I know is all of our non football

  128. fans are like, why are you guys talking about them?

  129. That's probably true, that's pubbly true. Yeah, I guess because

  130. we read a football thing, right. Yeah, I actually believe

  131. that there are conspiracy things. Okay, and my wife gets

  132. mad at me.

  133. I think that way.

  134. He also Chris also has aliens peeking in his window.

  135. And I didn't say all that, but I do think

  136. government conspiracy.

  137. I mean, he sleeps with a moon land.

  138. But I'm talking about like I'm talking about like us

  139. being sheep and all that.

  140. I started buying a lot.

  141. Of the whole Roman Empire had that idea of give them,

  142. give them bread and games, right, remember that right, freedom,

  143. and let them give them some entertainment that they won't

  144. overthrow us. Is that what you're saying?

  145. Colosseum?

  146. So this is these stadiums are colosseums. No, there are

  147. gladiators that far. But but yeah, I think some of

  148. it's rigged. I really do. Okay, Well, there you go.

  149. You have it. Now, if Chris disappears, it's because he

  150. said something. He exposed NFL now, and somebody's going to

  151. catch you in the afternoon. Put a hood over head

  152. through you in a white van. You're just going to disappear.

  153. No, I did not say anything about with shove Obama.

  154. Let's be clear.

  155. No. No, we just got we just got canceled. We

  156. just got shut down.

  157. I said I did not, Yes, I know I did not.

  158. Okay, so it's your transition.

  159. Okay, okay.

  160. So, speaking of making good calls, no, no, no, oh, yeah,

  161. that's that's pretty good.

  162. Dang it. Why don't you just do it? That was

  163. really good. I can't talk that.

  164. No, go ahead, go ahead, go ahead. No, we're trying

  165. to do bad ones.

  166. Speaking of making good calls, Solomon is about to execute

  167. a brilliant good call in this scenario, demonstrating how much

  168. wisdom he has.

  169. Dang it, there you go.

  170. That's a good one.

  171. I blew it.

  172. Good job.

  173. No, you, it's you. It's all about you.

  174. It's all about me. Let's be honest.

  175. Yes you, you do.

  176. You see the difference if you've never seen Brian Reagan's

  177. comedy special I Walked on the Moon, Yes, you have

  178. to watch it. Yea, it still holds up well, it

  179. still defines a lot of our interaction with each other. Right, okay, anyways,

  180. here we go. Solomon judges wisely in First Kings Chapter three,

  181. and we're gonna start with verse sixteen. So he's been

  182. sitting on the throne, he's doing all kinds of stuff.

  183. God gives him wisdom. And then it says, sometime later,

  184. two prostitutes came to the king to have an argument settled,

  185. please my Lord. One of them began, This woman and

  186. I live in the same house. I gave birth to

  187. a baby while she was with me in the house.

  188. Three days later, this woman also had a baby. We

  189. were alone, there were only two of us in the house,

  190. but her baby died during the night when she rolled

  191. over on it. Then she got up in the night

  192. and took my son from beside me while I was asleep,

  193. and she laid her dead child in my arms and

  194. took mine to sleep beside her. In the morning, when

  195. I tried to nurse my son, he was dead. But

  196. when I looked more closely in the morning light, I

  197. saw that it wasn't my son at all. Then the

  198. other woman interrupted, it certainly was your son, and the

  199. living child is mine. No, the first woman said, the

  200. living child is mine and the dead one is yours.

  201. And so they argued back and forth before the king.

  202. Then the king said, let's get the fact straight. Both

  203. of you claim the living child is yours, and each

  204. says the dead one belongs to the other. All right,

  205. bring me a sword. So a sword was brought to

  206. the king, and then he said, just cut the living

  207. child in two and give half to one woman and

  208. half to the other. Then the woman, who was the

  209. real mother of the living child and who loved him

  210. very much, cried out, oh no, my Lord, give her

  211. the child. Please don't kill him. But the other woman said,

  212. all right, he'll be neither of ours, neither yours nor mine.

  213. Divide in between us. And then the king said, do

  214. not kill the child, but give him to the woman

  215. who wants him to live, for she is his mother.

  216. When all Israel heard the king's decision, the people were

  217. in awe of the king, for they saw the wisdom

  218. God had given him for rendering justice. That's an eat story.

  219. It's also incredibly unorthodox.

  220. Yeah, we're not advising, but you keep a sword by

  221. your desk.

  222. Yeah, but I mean, what a brilliant, absolutely brilliant thing

  223. to do.

  224. Yeah, how do you sort out what's true?

  225. Yeah, So, so as he's listening to their claims, and

  226. and back then, you know, there was no footprint on

  227. the birth certificate. I'm most likely right, there's no fingerprints,

  228. there's no DNA tests.

  229. So so back.

  230. Then, I'm sure that this kind of thing probably happened

  231. more than we would even care to think about, you know,

  232. I mean there was there was probably no way for

  233. uh uh, you know, think about it. You could probably

  234. claim this woman's deranged, she's trying to steal my baby.

  235. This is my baby, and nobody around you would know

  236. the difference.

  237. There's no proof, there's no winds, there's no.

  238. Proof, right, you know, so so so yeah, I mean

  239. they're They're going back and forth, and this entire time,

  240. Solomon's only thinking, Okay, one.

  241. Of these is the real mother.

  242. What's what's What's a way to discover who the real

  243. mother is? So it comes up with this elaborate thing, Uh,

  244. you know, something that would just draw out the love

  245. of a mother.

  246. It's brilliant.

  247. Yeah, it was fabulous.

  248. Yeah, and so yeah, and so what where's the sermon

  249. in here? The sermon in here is that either a,

  250. you are going to exercise wisdom and take care of

  251. the disputes among your staff and among your church and

  252. among your people or your organization, or b. And this

  253. is the thing that we all need to hear. If

  254. you don't have wisdom, surround yourself with people who have wisdom,

  255. because you can see the benefit of wisdom, right, oh man,

  256. The benefit of wisdom here is unbelievable. And to have

  257. somebody who is able to discern and execute wisdom, it

  258. is a priceless thing that we should never overlook. You

  259. have to have somebody around you. If you don't have

  260. discernment wisdom, then surround yourself with somebody who does.

  261. There's so many decisions that are more than just you know,

  262. you read this story. You go, wow, he was so

  263. smart and the right lady got the baby. Yep, But

  264. what you're talking about is the lives of an innocent

  265. woman and an innocent child. A kidnapper, right, right, so

  266. an actual crime, an innocent mother, and and and the life,

  267. the whole life of this child. So if this woman,

  268. the wrong woman, had gotten that baby, that baby would

  269. have grown up probably in a miserable situation, his whole life.

  270. Yeah.

  271. Right, there's been a resentment and right, well, wouldn't have

  272. never known perhaps or the other way. She's she's already

  273. a bad person. She's trying to kidnap him, uh and

  274. and all these things. And so it's more than just

  275. the moment that the decision needs to be made. It

  276. really has uh life impacts on three different people. And

  277. instead of of her maybe going on and doing more

  278. criminal things. We don't know what she did, but she

  279. was exposed as a criminal in that moment. That there's

  280. a lot of these things that the kingdom is better

  281. and the lives of his people are better. Innocent people

  282. get justice, Guilty people find justice, right, And it's more

  283. than just a good decision in the moment, right, We

  284. could just read this stroying. Wow, he's so smart. But

  285. this is a demonstration. This is why people loved him

  286. so much. Right when all Israel heard the king's decision,

  287. that people were in awe of the king because they

  288. saw the wisdom that God had given him for rendering justice.

  289. Now it's not only this circumstance. People began to believe

  290. Solomon has answers right, it's solidified as leadership. Even more right,

  291. David had several coups. Even his generals sometimes turned against

  292. him because they would wonder, man, he's a little reckless,

  293. and he was. Now he always landed on top, but

  294. he was reckless, right, And now they see this stable thinking,

  295. this deep wisdom, and it's one of the things that

  296. caused his people to love him deeply. They made significant

  297. sacrifices for him because they believed in him. They really

  298. trusted him. And so it's the life impact of these

  299. women and this baby. But it also affected the entire

  300. kingdom where they began to go, oh, wow, we've got

  301. a good one. We've got a good king. And you know,

  302. I think we've seen in our in our nation over

  303. the last few presidencies. Our nation doesn't have a lot

  304. of trust in our leaders. Right, So the whole nation

  305. is unstable, right, Right. When there's a lot of trust

  306. in a leader, the nations tend to stabilize, right, because

  307. the leader is able to build confidence in the people.

  308. And this is what you see in Solomon's reign from

  309. here on out, that people sacrifice, that people work extra hard,

  310. they give even more of their resources. They're willing to

  311. do whatever it takes for the betterment of the kingdom

  312. because everything is getting better because they have a great leader.

  313. And this is one of those things that establishes that.

  314. So I love it. I think it's fantastic.

  315. Yeah.

  316. So, so, of all the spiritual gifts, wisdom is a

  317. spiritual gift.

  318. Right, yes, huh yeah.

  319. And so there's knowledge, there's wisdom, there's discernment, there's there's

  320. those three.

  321. Yeah.

  322. Right, what is the difference. We've already talked about the

  323. difference in knowledge and wisdom. What about discernment?

  324. Yeah, So, so I maybe misspoke this a little bit

  325. yesterday I lumped wisdom and discernment together. So knowledge is

  326. knowing stuff, yeah, facts, right, Right, it's the lowest on

  327. this scale.

  328. Right.

  329. Wisdom is knowing the right thing to do. Discernment is

  330. all about the right thing, the right way, with the

  331. right people in the right moment, right right. It's Discernment's

  332. all about applying wisdom. So discernment has no use apart

  333. from wisdom. So that's why wisdom is the principal thing.

  334. So is discernment the one that's connected to God hearing

  335. from God? Is there a God component to discernment that

  336. does not exist with wisdom because wisdom can be either

  337. godly or worldly.

  338. Wordly wisdom, Yeah, yeah, I think so. I think good

  339. question as a spiritual gift. Certainly wisdom is a spiritual gift.

  340. I think that all those are God connected as opposed

  341. to worldly wisdom and worldly discernment. I think that there

  342. are people who are discerning that that are able to

  343. put too and two together. Usually highly discerning people have

  344. a strong sense of logic, right, which is the science

  345. side of it, but then also have this instinct of

  346. being able to see through the words being said or

  347. the circumstances. Right. There's some people just have that good

  348. instinct like that. That's not necessarily the spiritual gift side.

  349. But what God does with spiritual gifts is he takes

  350. things that would be a normal strength that somebody has,

  351. and he says, I'm going to supernaturally enhance that in

  352. you as you you know, all of God's if then

  353. promises with Solomon, if you choose to do these things,

  354. they pour this out on you. And yeah, so the

  355. discernment side is in my mind, when you have somebody

  356. who has like the gift of prophecy or a word

  357. of knowledge as if, I will say that those have

  358. discernment kind of gifts to them are supernatural. Yeah.

  359. So I've been told in the past, and and it's

  360. so funny because there are times where you know, you

  361. never you never can rate yourself right. Other people have

  362. to rate you right. It's the same thing.

  363. When well one Corinthians chapter fourteen says, when it's talking

  364. about spiritual gifts, says, the profits are subject to the prophets.

  365. That's right, meaning those who have certain gifts are only

  366. the only ones that can really affirm it in others.

  367. That's right, that's right, that's right.

  368. And so yeah, if you have the gifts of teaching,

  369. you recognize the gifts of teaching, and then you say, hey, you.

  370. Have the gift of teaching, you're a good teacher. Yeah,

  371. that's why everybody else might say I like his teaching, right,

  372. but somebody with gifted teaching goes, here's why you're a

  373. good teacher. This is what makes you a good teacher.

  374. That's right. I see you. I see the potential in

  375. you as being a great teacher, right right, I see

  376. this gift in you. And so spiritual gifts are often

  377. affirmed by or should be affirmed by the ones who

  378. have those spiritual gifts.

  379. Yeah, which is incredibly wise, and it's a great rule

  380. of thumb.

  381. So wisdom is one of those things you can begin

  382. to believe maybe God's given you some wisdom, but it's

  383. only affirmed in others. Others will affirm it in you.

  384. So here's here's what I would say.

  385. There are times in my life where I was I've

  386. been told by others and it's been affirmed where I

  387. have wisdom. And so it's like, so you know the

  388. right thing to do in the moment. I think I

  389. have some of that. You know, now, is it incredibly high?

  390. I would say it's on the higher end. Maybe I

  391. don't think it's as high as some. But then there

  392. are times in my life where again this is just

  393. where the weird part falls.

  394. In.

  395. But there are times where I think I have good discernment.

  396. But I think that there have been other areas of

  397. my life where where there's a gaping hole. I think

  398. that's the part that lacks discernment. So I've been told

  399. by others who says, who tell us, hey, man, you

  400. get good knowledge, you demonstrate great wisdom in a lot

  401. of ways, but there are times in your life where

  402. you lack discernment, and and I think that that is

  403. true for me. Yeah, So that's why.

  404. What we can have competing things that can challenge even

  405. the spiritual gifts we have sometimes, right, So it's uh, yeah,

  406. I can I can see that, I think in all

  407. of us and everybody that has So if I ever

  408. take spiritual gifts, test wisdom and discernment both come in

  409. my top five. Right, So those are both there. But

  410. I also found myself making dumb decisions and then later on, look,

  411. bang go, I knew better than that, right, but I

  412. had some other my heart. I was chasing my heart.

  413. I was doing something where I had some kind of

  414. competing thing working against me in the moment, and I

  415. wound up making a dumb decision. That didn't mean I

  416. don't have wisdom and discernment. It just meant in that moment,

  417. I didn't surrender to it. I surrendered to another part

  418. of my life that pulled me away from wisdom to discernment,

  419. which is the dichotomy of Solomon's life. Right, he has

  420. the most wisdom of anybody in history, and yet he

  421. chooses to marry a thousand women and follows after and

  422. begins to make you know, temples for their gods.

  423. Yeah, how does he do that? I've always careful to

  424. points I followed his heart right.

  425. He follow his heart right, and he's the one that says, God,

  426. follow your heart, don't follow your heart.

  427. Guard your heart.

  428. Yeah, she was wise enough to warn us, right, and

  429. then he did.

  430. It right, don't do what I do.

  431. So it's possible to be a godly person didn't know

  432. the right answer and still not do it.

  433. Yeah.

  434. No, I was gonna say, I'm always careful to point

  435. out that nobody will ever be wiser than.

  436. Solomon, because that's what God says.

  437. That God says, nobody, you know, I'm gonna give you wisdom,

  438. and nobody nobody has been more wise.

  439. Or ever will be.

  440. So it's like, wow, what a claim, you know, so

  441. so thousands of years ago, He's like, the billions of

  442. people that come and go on this earth, this is it.

  443. This is the pinnacle. You're looking at it.

  444. You know. You mentioned surround yourself with with people with

  445. wisdom and discernment, you know. And and I'll tell you

  446. a very very quick story. I had a number of

  447. years ago an attempted coup in my leadership from a

  448. young leader that I was trying to develop. Uh, there

  449. was a significant confrontation. He had been doing a bunch

  450. of things behind the scenes to pull away a lot

  451. of the top leaders and the best leaders. It was

  452. all secret. Was his name, I'm not saying at anjec

  453. Yeah yeah, yeah, absolutely, yeah, absolutely yeah. So some great

  454. key leaders, people that I love deeply turned on me

  455. very very hard based on his accusations of this confrontation

  456. we had. So we were trying we meet with the elders,

  457. and we're going to have this meeting with these families.

  458. And I had a friend that I've always felt had

  459. some wisdom and discernment. I have friends who go, why

  460. is he your friend? Right right? And I'm always like,

  461. this guy has a wisdom and a discernment that I

  462. don't know that I have. He calls me right before

  463. this gathering and he goes, I've had a few conversations

  464. with these people, nothing has actually been said. I have

  465. a sense and I feel like maybe the Lord is

  466. causing me to discern there's a recording. Be very careful

  467. what you say. So my wife and I pray about it.

  468. We met with a couple of the elders and we

  469. prayed about this. God give us wisdom and discernment this moment.

  470. I help us not to say the wrong things, bring

  471. to remembrance the conversation, help us to be humble. We

  472. go into the meeting. About ten minutes into the meeting,

  473. they start asking very precise questions when I'm talking in

  474. general things because the event happened in the past, right.

  475. So we're about fifteen twenty minutes in and the Lord

  476. just said there is a recording. And I said, let

  477. me pause before I answer that question. Is there a recording?

  478. And if there is, have you heard it? And the

  479. room went dead and they got red in the face.

  480. Nobody want to answer. It was forty five seconds of silence,

  481. and finally the guy who was coming after the heart

  482. had said, h yes, there is a recording I have

  483. heard it. I went, oh, okay, so this is an

  484. entrapment meeting. Right. It pivoted, So my entire board wasn't sure.

  485. Because we trusted those other great leaders. My entire board

  486. immediately came over to my side, yepiate, and it established.

  487. And this was early in my leadership at Heritage Church.

  488. Came over and it was because of my friend who

  489. has this discernment that I don't have. I have discernment,

  490. but not on his level. And he rescued me and

  491. rescued our leadership. And I believe the church in general,

  492. and that's the value of having somebody with the spiritual

  493. gift of wisdom and discernment, you know, in your life.

  494. So I was in pain. So I also have wisdom

  495. and discernment. Right, That's been a firm minum many times.

  496. But I was in pain, and I was a little

  497. fearful in this. I wasn't at my peak performance. But

  498. I was surrounded with people who do have wisdom and discernment.

  499. They could speak it in my life, and I trusted

  500. them in a moment. And then because I had an

  501. awareness maybe there's something out there, then I treaded lightly

  502. and then discovered there was, and it rescued us. And

  503. so there's tremendous wisdom and hanging out with people with

  504. wisdom and then having friends that have discernment and those

  505. kinds of things. And the only way that you can

  506. prove those is by the proof of their life, right right,

  507. And uh so you don't just automatically assume why they

  508. said a smart thing that must be true. What I

  509. see as the trajectory of this guy's life, and at

  510. least my experience with him, is he continues to grow

  511. in wisdom and a discernment and following God, leaning into

  512. his words. And he brought me several scriptures in that

  513. same conversation to say, you know, be strong and courageous

  514. and then also to a soft answer, turns away wrath.

  515. He brought me a few verses that he just felt

  516. like God was telling him in that moment. So he

  517. affirmed his own wisdom and discernment with scripture in my

  518. life and it wound up being true. That's great, Yeah,

  519. that powerful.

  520. Yeah, that's very powerful.

  521. Yeah, well hey let that be Let that be a

  522. listen for all of us, right, need wise people in

  523. your life, wise people in your life, and let's listen

  524. to them even when we don't feel like we understand

  525. it fully.

  526. Just trust, trust in the gift.

  527. Yeah, so all right, well, hey that's our time, so

  528. we will see you next time on the Bible Gush
