  1. You're listening to the Bible Guys, a podcast where a

  2. couple of friends talk about the Bible in fun, in

  3. practical ways.

  4. Hey, everybody, welcome to the Bible guys.

  5. It is Monday, everybody's favorite day, everybody his favorite day.

  6. In the eighties, we had this little cartoon called Garfield,

  7. and Garfield was famous.

  8. For hating Monday Mondays.

  9. He would have a little bubble they said, I hate Mondays. Yes,

  10. so there you go.

  11. And it's why we loved Garfield. Yes, because we are

  12. so sensible. And he loved zangna and azagna.

  13. Yeah, that's right, that's right. He's a cat.

  14. So.

  15. Hey, my name is Chris, this is Jeff.

  16. We want to welcome into the Bible guys, and we

  17. are starting off with a riveting segment.

  18. This is super exciting.

  19. Yeah, and it's called would you rather?

  20. This is one of your favorites? Right?

  21. I love it?

  22. Okay, because it's just fun choices usually, Well, since you

  23. love it so much, wy, don't you start number one?

  24. Would you rather have a pet dinosaur or a pet dragon?

  25. To which I would say are they one of the same?

  26. Are dragons?

  27. Well?

  28. I think Desiree knows what she's doing. And she's distinguished

  29. between the two.

  30. I see, it depends on what kind of dinosaur.

  31. Cheese dinosaurs are real. There's that.

  32. Yeah, well listen, I believe the dragons may have been.

  33. Real at one time as a dinosaur.

  34. As a dinosaur. Yeah, okay, so.

  35. But the point almost every ancient culture has some kind

  36. of a dragon story.

  37. Many of them do.

  38. Yeah, so I would definitely say dragon dragon.

  39. Well, I saw the cartoon what card How to Train

  40. Your Pet Dragon? Oh, yes, it looks way cooler than

  41. just And I also saw Jurassic Park, and that's not

  42. super cool.

  43. One's death in distraction. Yeah's your friend.

  44. Yeah, that's exactly right.

  45. So, yeah, you have to fly on pet dragon, pet

  46. dragon top top, not right there.

  47. And I've also seen House of Dragons, where House of

  48. Dragons is a prerequisite to gimme thrones, and they actually,

  49. like were realistic dragons, and it sort of tried to

  50. create a world in which dragons were real and that

  51. they were the dominant, you know, group of people that

  52. rode them. I got to tell you, riding dragons looks

  53. pretty cool.

  54. Okay, Well there you go. I'm talking about a cartoon. Yeah, yes, hey, okay,

  55. here you go.

  56. Toothless.

  57. Would you rather wear clown makeup every day for the

  58. rest of your life?

  59. Or where to to every day?

  60. To Tom?

  61. I think so too.

  62. Yeah, it's it's terrible, but it's way better than clown makeup.

  63. I just don't want to take the time.

  64. No, I I just don't want to have to my

  65. skin to bear.

  66. Do you have a Do you have a long routine

  67. for getting ready in the morning? Uh?

  68. It depends on if I shave or not. Shaving takes

  69. a little bit of time. But if I don't shave,

  70. I'm ready.

  71. Because it's because your beard is just so strong and

  72. sturdy you must go through multiple Did you know that Superman?

  73. Did you know that Superman has to use a mirror

  74. and use his heat vision to shave because a razor

  75. can't cut?

  76. Whoa, I did not know that?

  77. Yeah, okay, yeah, I just don't want to take the

  78. time with the clown makeup, So put on the two

  79. two embarrassed?

  80. Got it?

  81. Okay? All right? Number three, I'd get like a Velco

  82. two two.

  83. Oh yeah, yeah, Well, if you get to wear it

  84. every day, it's like a belt.

  85. Why not get the best to the best, that's right,

  86. the most convenient, only the finness, only the finnest. To

  87. go to the Bible guys dot com and go to

  88. our store.

  89. Right, you can get a Velco number three. Would you

  90. rather fight one hundred tiny sumer wrestlers or.

  91. One giant toddler? That is hilarious.

  92. How tiny is tiny? And how giant is giant? I

  93. think that's the issue.

  94. I think. I think I think you should.

  95. A man sized toddler.

  96. No, no, no, giant means giant.

  97. Well, toddlers. Have you seen a toddler? They're usually like

  98. foot tall?

  99. I know.

  100. So then to be six feet tall would make you

  101. a giant. If you were six times bigger than you

  102. are now, you'd be a giant.

  103. Yeah, but I'm picturing the false world.

  104. You're thinking like mega mega, I'm thinking.

  105. Like yeah, yeah, toddler.

  106. And then I think, how tiny is a tiny sumo wrestler?

  107. I think there may be like dwarfs.

  108. Okay, so like a three foot tall one hundred three

  109. foot tall sumo wrestlers. Right, So sumo wrestler usually weighs

  110. like four hundred pounds, right, So if you take a

  111. six foot sumo wrestler at four hundred pounds and you

  112. shrink it to three hundred or to three feet. That's

  113. a two hundred pounds. You're fighting one hundred two hundred pounders.

  114. Yeah, I'd rather fight first verse the giant.

  115. The giant. Yeah, just just one giant. Yeah, we worked

  116. it out. You see, good problem solving right there. What

  117. were you going to say? You were going to say

  118. one hundred tiny?

  119. In my mind, I was also thinking like, could they

  120. be like the size.

  121. Of tinkerbelt like micro?

  122. Right? Yeah, see just fly swatt.

  123. See that's what I was asking. Is this micro and

  124. mega or is this little and big?

  125. I think I think the giant toddler wins giant toddler.

  126. Yeah, yeah, because you only have one problem, right, instead

  127. of one hundred problems, one hundred two hundred pound problems?

  128. Okay, good?

  129. Would you rather sneeze glitter or sweat maple syrup? There

  130. is no question in my mind sweat maple syrups. Sweat

  131. maple syrup.

  132. Absolutely.

  133. First of all, thanks for the questions, Desiree. These are awful.

  134. That was terrible. Well, hey, both of those I just

  135. want to gag at.

  136. Yeah, but there's the glitters from the pits of hell.

  137. That's right, that's right. Whoever invented glitter, I'm confident is

  138. not heaven. Yes, that's correct, right, along with I think

  139. the other declaration we've made. I mean, hey, we are

  140. a hard hitting no no, we are a hard hitting

  141. Bible doctrine show. And we took a strong stand against

  142. uh android phones, and yes, right right, we don't.

  143. Pull any punchest.

  144. You're gonna make a hot stage, yeah, no, And and

  145. so we're pretty sure they're not going to go to heaven.

  146. And then now, whoever invented glitter? People who use glitter?

  147. If you if you were in the glitter industry.

  148. Yes, or if you're a glitter pusher, or if you're

  149. a glitter fan glitter pusher, that's hilarious.

  150. Yeah, okay, I would agree with you on the maple syrup.

  151. Okay, it's gross. At least it would smell good.

  152. That's right. Okay, I think it's you again.

  153. Five. Would you rather always have a bad case of

  154. the hiccups?

  155. Oh, that's terrible, or have an itch that you can't

  156. reach that's pretty bad too, Those are too terrible.

  157. It's a bad case of hiccups, not just hiccups.

  158. Well, bad case of the hiccups that you always have.

  159. That could define the bad bad case. Doesn't have to

  160. mean like strength, it could mean like length.

  161. Yeah, I think I would rather have the itch.

  162. I think so too. I think so too.

  163. I would just hire somebody follow me around your job.

  164. You're the itcher, you're the scratcher, because yeah, yeah, because

  165. it doesn't say that you can't scratch it, just said

  166. you can you can't reach it, which, by the.

  167. Way, I can pretty much reach everywhere.

  168. All right side note, we're gonna okay, that's that's the

  169. best as far as we want to go with that.

  170. When I yeah, it's like you have to be like

  171. doesn't mean you're like, you know, like a quadriplegic.

  172. Well, speaking of not being able to see everything, m hmm.

  173. Today's episode, Elicias servant cannot see all the protection around him.

  174. Wow, here's the question. When did we speak of not

  175. being able to see anything?

  176. You just did, Well, you couldn't reach it. If you

  177. can't reach you can't see it. That was the connection.

  178. You've effectively done a bad transition, bad transition.

  179. Yes, man, I think we're about five hundred for five

  180. hundred now, And.

  181. Yes, I think so too.

  182. So we are in Second King's chapter six today and

  183. This is one of my favorite stories I think in

  184. Elisia's life.

  185. Yeah yeah, well, I'll tell you what, he already had

  186. some pretty good ones.

  187. Yeah yeah, as opposed to all those bad Bible verses.

  188. These are some of our favorite ones.

  189. These are why do you insert such things on people? Well,

  190. I didn't, That's not what I said.

  191. I know.

  192. I didn't say you Yeah, I was just commenting. Second King,

  193. Chapter six, verse eightys. When the King of Aram was

  194. at war with Israel, he would confer with his officers

  195. and say, we will mobilize our horses.

  196. At such and such a place.

  197. But immediately Elishah, the Man of God, would warn the

  198. King of Israel, don't go near that place, for the

  199. Arameans are planning to mobilize their troops there. So the

  200. King of Israel would send word to the place indicated

  201. by the Man of God. Time and again elisha warned

  202. the king so that he would be on the alert there.

  203. The King of Arab became very upset over this, and

  204. he called his officers together and demanded, which of you

  205. is the trader who's been informing the King of Israel

  206. of my plans.

  207. It's not us, my lord, the king one of.

  208. The officers replied, Elisha, the prophet in Israel tells the

  209. King of Israel even the words you speak in the

  210. privacy of your bedroom. Go and find out where he is.

  211. The king commanded, so I can send troops to seize him.

  212. And the report came back Elisha as at Dothan. So

  213. one night the King of Aram sent a great army

  214. with many chariots and horses to surround the city. When

  215. the servant of the Man of God got up early

  216. the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses,

  217. and chariots everywhere.

  218. Oh Sir, what will we do now? The young man

  219. cried to Elisha.

  220. Don't be afraid, Elisha, hold him, for their are more

  221. on our side than on theirs. Then Elishah prayed, Oh Lord,

  222. open his eyes and let him see. The Lord opened

  223. the young man's eyes, and when he looked up, he

  224. saw that the hillside around Elishah was filled with horses

  225. and chariots of fire. As the airman army advanced toward him,

  226. Elisha prayed, Oh Lord, please make them blind. So the

  227. Lord struck them with blindness, as Elisha had asked. Then

  228. Elisha went out and told them, you have come the

  229. wrong way. This isn't the right city. Follow me and

  230. I'll take you to the man you're looking for. And

  231. he led them to the city of Samaria. As soon

  232. as they had entered Samaria, Elisha prayed, O Lord now

  233. opened their eyes and let them cease. The Lord opened

  234. their eyes and they discovered that they were in the

  235. middle of Samaria. When the King of Israel saw them,

  236. he shouted to Elisha, my father, should I kill them?

  237. Should I kill them? Of course not, Elisha replied, do

  238. we kill prisoners of war? Give them food and drink,

  239. and send them home again to their master. So the

  240. king made a great feast for them and then sent

  241. them home to their master. After that, the Airman raiders

  242. stayed away from the land of Israel. Yeah, no, lie,

  243. I think I probably would too.

  244. Yeah that first of all, if this brings up so

  245. many different questions.

  246. Ask him.

  247. Okay, so the Bible, no worries, no worries, got this.

  248. So the question is, did was Elisha able to see

  249. all of the horses of you know, chariots of fire?

  250. Was he able to see the spiritual world? And then

  251. he asked the Lord to open his servant's eyes so

  252. that he could see the spiritual world. So Elisha walks

  253. around seeing the spiritual world? Or did he walk out

  254. of his house see the army and then Elisha God

  255. just allowed Elisha in that moment to see the spiritual world.

  256. Or does Elisha perpetually see the spiritual world? And then

  257. here's the third question. Here's the third option, because this

  258. is possible, Elisha just assumes that there's a spiritual world.

  259. Well, using your test yesterday about don't say things that

  260. aren't there, correct, it never implies that Elisha can see anything, correct,

  261. which would mean then your last question is your last

  262. question is the correct question to be asking.

  263. But it doesn't say that he can't see.

  264. Yeah, but you said don't add anything to it.

  265. Correct.

  266. So the only thing that we know is that Elijah's

  267. servant can see, right, but Elisha had confidence.

  268. What I'm saying is it doesn't tell us all three

  269. of those options. So the only thing we know for

  270. sure is that it just doesn't tell us. It could

  271. be any one of those three options.

  272. Yes, but I think the assumption would be because it

  273. doesn't say the other two. Yeah, the natural assumption would

  274. be that he lives like you and I do. Otherwise,

  275. you're turning turning him into a superhero.

  276. Right, Yeah, I think I agree with that. I agree

  277. with that.

  278. Yeah, but yeah, so I think it was just that

  279. he had absolute confidence that, you know, God's with us

  280. and so we don't have to worry.

  281. Yeah, I think so too. And by the way, can

  282. we just talk about that for a minute, let's do it.

  283. When you walk around with so much confidence that God

  284. is real and that God is on your sho now,

  285. in a lot of cases, you know, now, Elisha was

  286. a prophet of God.

  287. That is different than my profession and your profession.

  288. So even though we're pastors, and even though that you know,

  289. Christians are you know, ambassadors, all of us are, right,

  290. it's different than a prophet. A prophet had this ability

  291. to you know, directly hear from God. And so Elisha has,

  292. you know, it seems like it's Alicia's idea. I have

  293. an idea, make him blind God. And then and by

  294. the way, I think that was Elicia's idea. I think

  295. God honored Eliicia's idea because it said he made them blind.

  296. As Elisha asked, this didn't seem like an idea that

  297. came from God.

  298. Right, But again, he was the prophet.

  299. He was.

  300. He was the representative, the only representative, at least apparently

  301. at this point. So anyway, all that to say this,

  302. for the average person listening going into work, you know,

  303. it doesn't necessarily.

  304. Mean you know, your ideas are always the best ideas, Like,

  305. this is what God says. God says.

  306. God says that you're going to try to punch me,

  307. and your fist will stop in mid air, right.

  308. Like that, That's right, That's not what it means. Right.

  309. However, if you know that something is wrong and you

  310. stand up and do what is right, I believe that

  311. we can have confidence that God is going to be

  312. with you and that God is going to take care

  313. of you. And sometimes they do have consequences sometimes, you

  314. know whatever, sometimes we don't see it work out.

  315. I'm just trying to.

  316. Think of different scenarios, right, So, Like, in other words,

  317. if a person quits a job because they stand up

  318. for what is right and they refuse to do what

  319. is wrong.

  320. Okay, they may go through a hard time financially, but I.

  321. Believe that God will in the end take care of

  322. that person for doing what is right.

  323. Yeah, God's never going to be in debt to you

  324. because you did the right thing right right, right? Yeah,

  325. God will always settle the score and it always winds

  326. up being better than than what you think you invested

  327. in doing the right thing.

  328. Yeah, I sure rambling, But what I'm trying to say

  329. is to have that amount of confidence to do what

  330. is right.

  331. It's sort of what I was saying, right.

  332. Can you imagine just just to have every situation be like, oh,

  333. I know I'm on the right side. I know God's

  334. going to win. I know God's going to take care

  335. of me. I have no reservation whatsoever about you know,

  336. and by the way, I live that way often. Yeah,

  337. but I wonder how confident I would be if I

  338. knew that there's a potential I would die because I

  339. already told you right, Like, remember remember that time I

  340. told you about that car wreck and I was like, yeah,

  341. I wanted to run over and help the guy, but

  342. I was standing across the street. It was like a coward, right,

  343. And I'm thinking, gee, whiz man, if I knew I

  344. was going to die, who would I have that much confidence? Oh?

  345. Yeah, God's with me right now. He doesn't have to

  346. care me right now.

  347. I think you know, it's interesting to me that Elisha

  348. spends the vast majority of his time in Israel and

  349. not in Judah. Judah is where all the people who

  350. followed God were, and he had great respect for Jehoshaphat

  351. he said, so he says it multiple times. He's like

  352. a big fan of that guy. Right, But he lives

  353. in Samaria, where all the wicked people are, where all

  354. the sin is, and he's not indulging in it. He's constantly,

  355. you know, speaking against all of this evil. And I

  356. think this was an opportunity and he saw this as

  357. an opportunity to continue to move God's mission forward, right,

  358. And God saw this as an opportunity to move his

  359. mission forward, to get in the in the the mind,

  360. in the eyes of the King of Israel. Again, look

  361. at I'm still paying attention. I'm here, right. How many

  362. miracles do you need before you finally start believing?

  363. You know?

  364. So, what it turns out I think you're seeing here

  365. is that the King of Israel looks at Elisha as

  366. a magic man, like like like a witch doctor or something.

  367. He just has this built in magic in him. He's

  368. not seeing that God is doing these miracles. Apparently, it

  369. just is I don't understand why he doesn't respond. Sometimes

  370. he'll mention, you know in the previous one where he mentioned,

  371. you know, your God said this or whatever. But for

  372. the most part he just doesn't have the same perspective.

  373. But I do think that God is getting this message across.

  374. And so in this moment, then Elisha can have confidence.

  375. One I don't believe God's done with me yet. And

  376. two this is a really great opportunity to point out

  377. to the king again. And that's why, Hey, God strike

  378. them blind, and I'm going to march them right into

  379. the middle of the city, right, and hey, see what

  380. God did. And so when it's all about see what

  381. God did, I think you can expect miracles when it's

  382. just every day stuff, maybe or maybe not. And it

  383. just depends on what God's plan is for your life

  384. in that next thing, right, So when your work is

  385. aligning with God's plan, I think you can always you

  386. can always count on miracles when it's just Tuesday on

  387. the way to the grocery store. I don't know, right, right,

  388. I think I think we lived the majority of our

  389. life just in the natural world, right, and natural things

  390. happened good and bad. And then when we were walking

  391. moving God's kingdom forward, it's not unreasonable for us to

  392. expect God to do the supernatural and protect us. And

  393. there's been many times where I found myself. You know,

  394. we do a lot of work around the world. There's

  395. been multiple times where one time we were out in

  396. the bush and we rolled up on a group of

  397. guys that were not happy that we pulled up. They

  398. all had machetes in their hands, and I'm thinking, oh,

  399. this is kind of scary, right, It calmed down and

  400. things were fine. Had another time we were on motorcycles

  401. riding through the bush and we were right on the

  402. border between two warring tribes, and these guys step out

  403. with rifles and stop us in the middle of nowhere,

  404. and they commandeered our motorcycles and rode with us for

  405. two hours. I had a guy sitting on the back

  406. of my motorcycle with machine gun right between me and

  407. him on my back.

  408. Wow.

  409. Right, And we didn't know if we were being kidnapped night.

  410. We didn't know which tribe they were from, we didn't

  411. know anything about them. And they finally we sat down

  412. and had meal. Once we got to where we were going,

  413. we had a meal with them. They sat around and

  414. chit chatted with us for a couple of minutes, and

  415. then as dark came, we set up our tents and

  416. they just kind of disappeared into the bush.

  417. I don't know if they were good guys or bad guys.

  418. Never figured out well.

  419. I've had times where radicals, religious radicals in the Middle

  420. East took possession of us and wondering, you know, how's

  421. this going to work out? Had a lot of those things,

  422. and in those there's the nervousness of it, but always

  423. a confidence that God's got this one right. I think

  424. I've been more worried that, oh, this might not turn

  425. out well, like you said, driving down the road having

  426. a bad problem than you know, than in those because

  427. in those moments and thinking, hey, I'm just doing what

  428. Got told us to do. We're trying to plant churches,

  429. we're trying to make disciples.

  430. He'll protect us, right right, Yeah, Well, you know I

  431. think that looking back at my life when I was

  432. a kid, I did a lot of crazy and dumb things,

  433. and it was pretty was pretty ignorant and have a

  434. lot of things and almost died like probably four different times,

  435. maybe five different times, and uh.

  436. And but God had a plan for you. I think,

  437. I like, look at this dumb kid, I'm just going

  438. to keep him alive.

  439. Like I actually believe, like there are unexplainable things, and

  440. I think even as a kid, I'm thinking, like somehow God,

  441. God protected me from that. Yes, you know, I fell

  442. down two stories onto a cement driveway.

  443. I remember that I was two stories high. I fell

  444. off of the ladder. I went straight backwards and landed

  445. on my back and my head on a cement driveway.

  446. No protections a lot, right now, m R and Z.

  447. Yeah and so, yeah, and so.

  448. I believe that one hundred percent that when you get

  449. yourself in a situation, God's not done with you.

  450. You are heading towards God. This is what I'm saying.

  451. If you align your life where you're like, God, I'm

  452. going to do everything I can do to serve you.

  453. And it doesn't have to be full time preacher ministry.

  454. It's just that you're saying, as a businessman, God, I'm

  455. going to leverage my resources to further your kingdom. I'm

  456. going to share the guys. You're saying, God, I want

  457. to align with your plan for my life. Then I

  458. think you can expect God supernatural intervention in your life

  459. on a regular basis because God had a plan. You

  460. made some dumb choices, yep, and your your guardian angels

  461. working hard.

  462. Man. Just this was a tough one. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

  463. I believe that every listener that's listening now, I think

  464. qualifies for that kind of protection.

  465. I agree to you, I agree.

  466. And and so let's let's spend our last few minutes

  467. talking about the spiritual world. So, so we believe that

  468. there the Bible teaches that there is a spiritual world,

  469. and that Adam and Eve had the ability to h

  470. you know, walk with God in the garden. That's what

  471. the scripture says, right and and uh, and so Adam

  472. and Eve saw God in the spiritual world, and then

  473. when sin came into the world, you know, the theology

  474. of it is that Adam and Eve were separated from

  475. that spiritual world. And so then, you know, now we

  476. live in a world where, you know, God is a

  477. spirit and we can't see the spiritual world. But the

  478. Bible describes angels, the Bible describes demons, the Bible describes

  479. you know that that these two are are completely in

  480. the same space. But at the same time, we can't

  481. see them, which is why it says suddenly an angel appeared, right.

  482. And then it says everybody was terrified.

  483. Right.

  484. And then in the Book of Revelation it talks about

  485. how uh, you know, the new Jerusalem will come down

  486. and it'll it'll it'll it'll merge with the Earth, you know,

  487. the new the new Heaven and the new Earth will

  488. come together.

  489. Right.

  490. And so the theory is is that the spiritual world

  491. will merge with the physical world and it will be

  492. like it was in the Garden of Eden, where we

  493. can see the spiritual and the non spiritual, the physical

  494. and the spirit.

  495. That's right, because we have come alive spiritually, right, right.

  496. It's not that those two are they're not set for God.

  497. They're separate for us. And I don't think they're separate

  498. for the angels. They're separate for us. And that's why

  499. the angels show up. You know, these armies come in

  500. and the angels are like, oh man, Now, what I

  501. think is really cool is it's talking about this is

  502. a pretty substantial army that shows up many chariots and horses.

  503. And in those days, a few chariots would change an

  504. entire battle, right, right, because the other armies typically didn't

  505. have charits. You rarely in this timeframe ever, hear about

  506. the Jews the Israelites having chariots, right, So that's a

  507. tactical advantage. There's many chariots, many horses. This is a

  508. substantial army. And then Elijah's like, yeah, Lord, if you

  509. could just let him see what you're planning. And there's

  510. this for for Elisha and his helper. There's a bigger

  511. army in heaven around and so that phrase and I

  512. just wish not that I think we always have this opportunity,

  513. that this expectation that God's going to show us these things,

  514. but just the idea that this is true. There are

  515. more on our side than on theirs. Right, right, if

  516. you can just live your day, there's more on your

  517. side than there air is on theirs. Your boss is

  518. wanting to do evil to you today, just understand there's

  519. more on your side than there is on theirs.

  520. That's really good.

  521. Your in laws or your ex or whatever. There's if

  522. you're following God and you're all in with Jesus on

  523. this one, you're surrendered to the Holy Spirit. The Bible

  524. says there's more on your side than there is on there.

  525. So when you look at all the evil stuff going

  526. on in the schools and in our public arena and

  527. in politics and all those things, there's more on God's

  528. side than there is on theirs.

  529. Right, Yeah, And the scripture says in the New Testament,

  530. it says, greater is He that is.

  531. In you than He is in the world.

  532. That's right, that's awesome, that's fantastic.

  533. All right, that's a good place stand. That's right. It's

  534. a good place to end. And we will see you

  535. hopefully tomorrow on the Bible. Guys,
