  1. You're listening to The Bible Guys, a podcast where a

  2. couple of friends talk about the Bible in fun in

  3. practical ways. Hey, good morning everybody. My name is Chris.

  4. I got my heart leapt with joy for yes. I

  5. thought you were gonna sing.

  6. No, no, no, not today it is.

  7. It is Thursday, Yes, good morning, and we are the

  8. Bible Guys, and we're in a series about dangerous prayers.

  9. Yes, and today is a little.

  10. Lighter than yesterday or the day before.

  11. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, Today's Wednesday, by the way, Oh today's Wednesday.

  12. Oh okay, sorry about that.

  13. Today is Wednesday, and we are recording five in a row.

  14. And sometimes I get my days.

  15. Yes, confused, we understand. Yes, poor Chris. Pray for him.

  16. His mind comes and goes, comes and goes.

  17. Hey, age, that's right.

  18. Well, before we dive into our series, we have a

  19. segment that has a theme song and it is mail Bags.

  20. There you go.

  21. Mail Bags comes in today from Elizabeth.

  22. Hy Elizabeth H.

  23. And she asked this question, if you could ask God

  24. one silly question, what would it be.

  25. Oh, that's a good question, Elizabeth. One Does it say

  26. only one? It says only one?

  27. Yes, it says if you could ask God one silly

  28. question because I have several?

  29. Do you have several?

  30. I have several silly questions. Okay, like did Adam and

  31. Eve have a belly button?

  32. Yeah, that's a good question, right, Yeah, because they didn't

  33. have a bilical cord. Yeah, they didn't need an ubilical court,

  34. so maybe they didn't have belly but yeah, so big question.

  35. That's a big one, big one.

  36. It's silly.

  37. Yeah, I'm One of my questions that I'm always asking

  38. is if nothing sticks to teflon, how does teflon stick

  39. to the pand hm?

  40. That's pretty good.

  41. That's it's like magic.

  42. It's a big one. Yeah, I have one. I have one.

  43. Uh is there a color in heaven that does exist

  44. on Earth?

  45. Because think about it, think about it.

  46. I don't know if that's silly, that's a good question.

  47. No, think about this.

  48. Every single thing that you try to imagine is in

  49. the colors that you only know. But what if there

  50. was a color and if you try to imagine it

  51. right now, you actually can't do it.

  52. Because everything you know, so we already know that there

  53. are colors outside of our spectrum of sight. What there's

  54. all kinds of things out we have a very narrow

  55. so all color is right on a wave that comes

  56. back to you. It's a reflection back to you. Yes,

  57. And that there are things outside of what you can

  58. see that animals can see and other bugs can see, pheromones,

  59. stuff like that. They can see stuff we can't see.

  60. And they can see colors we can't see.

  61. But are they different colors or they're just a combination

  62. of our color.

  63. Power since we can't see them, I'm not sure we can.

  64. Know which means I'm not sure I believe that claim.

  65. Well, the spectrum, it's a spectrum, right, So so sounds

  66. that you can't hear, it turns out are different than

  67. the sounds you can hear. I think colors you can't

  68. see turns out to be different than the colors you

  69. can see.

  70. I think animals see the same colors as we do.

  71. Don't We don't know. Okay, Remember the predator.

  72. I think we do know.

  73. Remember the predator and.

  74. Predator too he changed his heat vision to all these

  75. different types of visions. Not like that, okay, But but

  76. my point is is that they were still all colors

  77. that we could see. You know why, because we can't

  78. make movies without the colors that we can see we can't.

  79. But it's only for us. We're not making movies for them.

  80. Animals don't see different colors.

  81. They do, they don't, they do so, and there's all

  82. kinds of it's it's a spectrum. And so because of

  83. that we we have a very narrow version of very

  84. narrow range within the heart. What other silly question, where

  85. do all the socks go in the wash in the dryer? Like,

  86. is there a sock heaven? Where do they go?

  87. Yeah? I don't know.

  88. I have another one. Why does buttered toast always land

  89. on the floor on the butter side.

  90. That's a good one.

  91. This yeah, this is a I got a bunch of them.

  92. I got so many that just bother me.

  93. Okay, here's it's not silly. It is kind of silly.

  94. But we're dinosaurs on the arc.

  95. Uh yeah yeah, probably.

  96. Yeah they could have been baby They could have been

  97. babies or eggs or eggs. Well, God brought the animals

  98. to know. I don't think the eggs could have rolled.

  99. Probably baby dinosaurs.

  100. Okay. He could have asked them to behave, behave.

  101. Yeah, wow, go to Noah and behave.

  102. Okay, that's a good one. Do you have another one.

  103. I think, I.

  104. Think you know there's there's this question. Ready, Hey, God,

  105. can you create a boulder so large that.

  106. You can't move it? Yeah?

  107. That's a that's a fallacy loop, right, Yes, yeah, that's

  108. a hard one. I've thought on several occasions about that

  109. that of course he can, but he won't. He can

  110. do anything he wants to do. Yeah, but then if

  111. he wants to lift it, he can lift it.

  112. Right.

  113. But so the question isn't can you lift a boulder

  114. you create that you can't lift. That's not the question.

  115. The question is can you create a boulder so big

  116. you can't lift it? Yes, but then if he wants

  117. to lift it, he can lift it.

  118. Well, then that means he can't create one that he

  119. can't lift.

  120. Sure, he can you do anything he wants.

  121. Oh, I see, I see what you're saying.

  122. You're saying he could do that and he could do

  123. the other exactly right.

  124. Right. What you're trying to do is you're trying to

  125. put him in a linear situation, and he's not stuck

  126. in the linear time.

  127. Brame, I got you, I got you. Yeah that's funny.

  128. So yeah, yeah, those are those are good?

  129. Anything else man, No, I don't have. I have I

  130. have so many of those weird things like that, why

  131. did he make mosquitos? Well, yeahs make me mad? Yeah,

  132. that's right. Like of all the things if I could change, well,

  133. there's a lot of big things that would change. Yeah,

  134. but one of the biggest things I would change is mosquitoes.

  135. Just get rid of moskuit give it the mosquitos. Just

  136. have them, you know, drink sap or something or water, yeah,

  137. drinking blood.

  138. Well, you know, without mosquitos, we never would would have

  139. been able to have Jurassic Park.

  140. This is true. That's true.

  141. Yeah, yeah, uh and and uh, you know there's other

  142. like Bible questions that I have for sure.

  143. What kind of Bible questions do you have?

  144. Like what was Paul's thorn in the flesh?

  145. Mm?

  146. Like because he doesn't tell.

  147. Us it was his podcast host co host.

  148. Yeah. And then here's another question, did the prodigal Sun.

  149. That was a joke? You didn't even smile at that?

  150. Oh, I wasn't listening. I was thinking of another question.

  151. Case and point. What did you say? What did you

  152. with his podcast co host? Oh?

  153. That is casing point. That is casoon point that.

  154. It's hard to do this job. If you're not listening, man,

  155. you know what, I was trying to.

  156. Think of another question, and that was actually really funny. Yeah, okay, Oh,

  157. you know what I should have said. If I was listening,

  158. Here's what I would have said. I would have said,

  159. that's right, Jeff, it was.

  160. That probably was it.

  161. Yeah, I would directed it back to you.

  162. Okay, all right, that's enough.

  163. So if you I.

  164. Don't even know where we were going with that, No,

  165. it was it.

  166. Was silly questions. Yeah, yeah, yeah, So listen.

  167. If you are at home and you're listening and you've

  168. never written in before, this would be a fun time

  169. to write in.

  170. If you think of another silly question, you're like, oh,

  171. this is a good one.

  172. Yeah, that's a good one.

  173. Right in and send an email to info at the

  174. Bible guys dot com, or comment on the YouTube channel

  175. or something, and and leave us a comment or an

  176. email somewhere.

  177. We'd love to hear from you.

  178. The reason why I was saying that it seemed like

  179. I couldn't even figure out where we were going, it's

  180. because David wrote a prayer about the fact that you

  181. never got.

  182. That was your transition.

  183. There you go, there you is okay. So in Psalm

  184. chapter twenty five, David writes, this is kind of a

  185. God's GPS for my life, kind of a prayer. God,

  186. just show me your will, show me what I'm supposed

  187. to do. And so in Psalm chapter twenty five, what

  188. verses are we reading for four through four through ten? Yes,

  189. and my phonus stuck man. Okay four through ten, It says,

  190. show me the right path, Oh Lord, point out the

  191. road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth

  192. and teach me. For you are the God who saves me.

  193. All day long. I put my hope in you. Remember,

  194. oh Lord, your compassion and unfailing love, which you've shown

  195. from long ages past. Do not remember the rebellious sins

  196. of my youth. Remember me in the light of your

  197. unfailing love, for you are merciful, Oh Lord. The Lord

  198. is good and does what is right. He shows the

  199. proper path to those who go astray. He leads the

  200. humble and doing right, teaching them his way. The Lord

  201. leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all who keep his

  202. covenant and obey his commands. Well, there you go.

  203. There it is so we're talking about God's showing us

  204. the way. And uh so, I mean how often do

  205. we pray God show us the way?

  206. It's just about every major decision. Yeah that exists right now.

  207. Uh, let me ask you this, this, this brings up

  208. a pretty good question. Have you ever had a conversation

  209. with anybody in the past where they believe there's only

  210. one perfect will and there and they have a little

  211. bit of a fear like like like they say they say, well,

  212. I don't know if I want to marry this person

  213. because I know that there's only one perfect will and

  214. or or I don't know if I don't know if

  215. I should choose the school to go to because there's

  216. only one perfect will or or whatever it is, and

  217. and uh and they're always constantly wondering about, uh, you know,

  218. if I'm in God's perfect will because it seems like

  219. there's only one right.

  220. Yes, Yeah, I think a lot of people have a

  221. very linear view of God's will, that there's a HASTI

  222. lead to be hastily to see God only has one

  223. plan and there's only one path for your life. And

  224. I don't believe that. I think if that's why it was,

  225. Jesus would have explained it that way. I think the

  226. Bible would have explained it that way. It just doesn't

  227. doesn't say that. So it does say we've already read

  228. this week. A couple days ago we read where David said,

  229. you knew all the days of my life before I

  230. was ever born. Right, But that's less about God prescribing

  231. precisely what would happen, as opposed to God knowing what

  232. will happen. That's right, that's right, right, And so I

  233. think that you navigate to your life. God's made it

  234. really clear in scripture. Love God with all your heart,

  235. all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.

  236. God wants us to love our neighbor as our self.

  237. God wants us to seek his kingdom and his righteousness

  238. and all these other things to be added to us.

  239. God wants us to lean on him and his word,

  240. and it'll be a light to our path as we're going.

  241. The Bible says that delight yourself and the Lord, and

  242. he will give you the desires of your heart. And

  243. we know that in Hebrew there's kind of a double

  244. entendre there. He'll give you the right desires and then

  245. he'll give those to you. Right, it's both ways, but

  246. it's like, do you want the blue one or the

  247. red one? There's not a God's will isn't involved in

  248. the blue or the red necessarily, it's what do you want?

  249. As long as you're honoring God, you can have you

  250. the one that's right, right, as long as you're seeking

  251. Him first. You can have you the one as long

  252. as you love God and love people and you're not

  253. taking advantage of anybody. If it's just a neutral decision,

  254. you can have either one. Yeah, and so God, but

  255. God knows which one you're going to do, and he

  256. has a plan based on that.

  257. Now, I do believe that there are times where God

  258. will impress upon us and tell us it's the red one. Right,

  259. So there could be a thing where you think it

  260. you think it choice is linear, and you think or

  261. you know or you know it's optional, and then God

  262. will say, clearly, this is the right choice.

  263. Right.

  264. So God impresses upon us all the time.

  265. Yeah, but those are supernatural moments in our life, that's.

  266. Right, Yeah, that's right.

  267. Yeah, Because you know there are times where you know,

  268. I'll be you know, praying between two things, or even thinking,

  269. not even praying necessarily, you know, thinking like, oh, these

  270. are the two options because it doesn't, in my mind,

  271. require prayer. And it's like, this isn't a big deal.

  272. I can choose you to one of these things. And

  273. then all of a sudden, I feel like God impresses

  274. upon me and says, this is the this is what

  275. I want you to do. Right, and then you all

  276. of a sudden you're like, oh, out of nowhere, I

  277. sort of feel like God is telling me this, right,

  278. you know, make this phone call or choose this person.

  279. You know I've done that.

  280. It's simple. It's as simple as this, right. I remember

  281. thinking recently who to grab and take the lunch and

  282. I remember thinking like, I'm in the mood to go

  283. to lunch with somebody, and I have an agenda to

  284. go to lunch with a lot of staff members just

  285. because I want to spend time with them, connect with them,

  286. et cetera, et cetera. And I remember thinking, Oh, this

  287. guy's available. He looks like he's working at his desk.

  288. This guy's available. I'm gonna go ask one of those.

  289. And I felt like God was saying ask that person.

  290. And I was like, oh, I thought that was a choice,

  291. that was no big deal, but I felt like it

  292. was that person, and I was like, Okay, I don't

  293. know why, but I feel like this is the right

  294. move to make.

  295. And I did.

  296. And turns out that was definitely the right move to make,

  297. because the conversation that unfolded.

  298. Was like, oh now I see what God is doing.

  299. Right, was this conversation was meant to happen in this

  300. particular moment.

  301. So the Book of James tells us that if we

  302. lack wisdom, ask from God. Ask God, and He'll give

  303. to us generously. Right, and so all the time, I

  304. would say, be praying for wisdom, be praying for discernment.

  305. Solomon says, wisdom is the principal thing. So with all

  306. the things that you're getting your life, make sure you

  307. get lots of wisdom. It's the core of being able

  308. to live a life that avoids a lot of the pitfalls.

  309. And we know the fear of the Lord is a

  310. beginning of wisdom. So David writes in Someone nineteen that

  311. God's he talks about this unlimited amount of wisdom that

  312. comes from God's words, and so you know, God's word

  313. is a light under our path, he says. His son

  314. Solomon says, trust in the Lord with all your heart.

  315. Lean not onto your own understanding, but in all your ways,

  316. acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. So I'm

  317. constantly praying God give me wisdom and discernment in my

  318. everyday decisions. I'm constantly leaning on Him, saying, I don't

  319. want to make a dumb choice. So if it's a

  320. frivolous choice, do I want a black pickup truck or

  321. a gray pickup truck? Hey, which one's going to give

  322. you the best deal?

  323. Right?

  324. That kind of thing. But when it comes to people,

  325. people matter. So many other things matter, And I'm not

  326. saying the black versus a great pickup truck don't matter.

  327. Maybe they do. But I think that if you're constantly

  328. leaning on the Lord's making first, his kingdom, his righteousness,

  329. all these other things will be added to you. So

  330. you don't have to worry about your decisions if you're

  331. just constantly pursuing God.

  332. Right, I think lovely regard with our heart, soul, mind,

  333. and strength. You can do that at this university or

  334. this university. So the location isn't necessarily the important thing.

  335. The important thing is You're in God's will in either

  336. one of those places. My placing your life in God's hands?

  337. Right? Right? Yeah? Yeah, So then the measure would be

  338. is it moral? Is it ethical? Is it biblical? Right?

  339. Is it legal? Right? So, if you've got those kind

  340. of four those four areas, is it biblical? Is it moral?

  341. Is it ethical? Is it legal? If you're kind of

  342. in the right place there? And am I taking advantage

  343. of anybody? Is it based off out of love? Right?

  344. Am I being humble? God opposes the pride, but he

  345. gives grace to the humble. I think there's a few

  346. of those questions we can ask ourselves. Does this align

  347. with what the character of who Jesus is? I'll sometimes

  348. ask myself, can I imagine Jesus doing something like this

  349. if he was walking around right now in twenty twenty five?

  350. If I can, then I think I can confidently just

  351. make that decision. It's okay. And trust. If you're constantly

  352. walking with God and you're always in his word, then

  353. you can trust that He's going to guide you to

  354. do the right thing. Now if his word says don't,

  355. you can't blame the Holy Spirit saying I just really

  356. felt a lot of peace about it. Right. How many

  357. times have we had people say, oh, praise the Lord God,

  358. you know, help me get rid of my old spouse,

  359. and I got a new spouse. It's so wonderful, right,

  360. God answered all my prayers. He led me to do it.

  361. I felt so much peace about it. And clearly the

  362. Bible doesn't give us permission to do that. So God's

  363. not going to go against his own words. But if

  364. it's in alignment with his word, and it's moral and ethical, legal,

  365. and it doesn't hurt other people, then I think now

  366. we're just looking for God, what's most advantageous to your

  367. mission and to my life. That's all I'm looking for

  368. at that point. Everything else is set aside. Now I'm

  369. just looking God, what's most vintageous to your mission in

  370. my life? Help me to make the right choice there.

  371. And then if he still doesn't like whisper froc happen,

  372. I think you can make your own choice. Yeah.

  373. The only uh, I don't know why, I'm I'm impressed

  374. to say this, but the only exception. I never recommend divorce.

  375. That's not a recommendation that I go down the road

  376. and recommend. But I do recommend people in an abusive

  377. situation to.

  378. Get safe, right, Yes, be safe? Yeah, be safe.

  379. So so I don't know why I felt pressed to

  380. say that, So I just didn't want anybody on the

  381. other end to hear it that way.

  382. So we're not talking to you if you're on.

  383. The other end and you're in an abusive situation, we're

  384. not saying there's no room for safety. There's there's definitely

  385. room for safety. So get out and get safe in

  386. that situation. So well, here another thing is, you know

  387. God always says that He's going to light our paths.

  388. How about that, right, So think about the first century. Uh,

  389. they didn't have flashlights.

  390. Right.

  391. And by the way, this is written way before the

  392. first century Psalms when more Palms.

  393. Written ah man a thousand years before Jesus.

  394. Yeah, yeah, yeah, look it up.

  395. Yeah, fourteen hundred years before Jesus something like that.

  396. So so back then they they would have had you know,

  397. candles fire, that's really about it. Lanterns and uh and

  398. so yeah, so oil burning oil and uh and so

  399. the difference between you know, you know, a candle back

  400. then just like torches. Think about how much more valuable

  401. the concept was, you know, and how intentional they had

  402. to be. Right now for us, we're like, oh, just

  403. pull out our phones, right, we don't.

  404. Have to even think about light and darkness.

  405. But back then, you did not go on a journey

  406. if you knew the sun was going to go down

  407. right without being extremely intentional, and and not to mention

  408. you know, snakes and wilder and I mean all these

  409. different you know, dangers that come with the night as well.

  410. So you know, the idea of like light and dark

  411. onto a path to show you know where you need

  412. to go is just that much more critical, I guess,

  413. is what I'm saying. And so God says, I'm not

  414. just going to show you the path. I'm going to

  415. light the way and light the way it means. I'm

  416. going to keep you from danger. Light the way it means.

  417. I'm going to make it to where you're able to

  418. walk the path right with confidence, without hesitation, without fear.

  419. You know, all those things are implied with the light.

  420. So David was between a thousand BC and nine nine

  421. fifty BC, right, and there is when he wrote most

  422. of them. So, yeah, right at that thousand years before Jesus,

  423. you nailed it.

  424. He doubted yourself, He said fourteen hundred, but you said thousands.

  425. First instincts. Yeah, I went, I went backwards because of

  426. trying to think through how far was he from Moses? Yeah,

  427. it was my problem.

  428. Yeah, so that's fun. And so yeah, I think that

  429. the lighting and then the path, I mean that was

  430. basically David's prayer.

  431. So the application then is how often do we pray

  432. for God's will when we should have but we don't

  433. because there's a lot of people I think that listen

  434. that include myself included. I think where there are times

  435. where it's like I should pray about that. Yes, first

  436. before I say to myself, I know the right answer.

  437. So I pulled up some verses. I thought that this

  438. would be useful. As we're talking David here, his instinct

  439. is God showed me the right path. I want to

  440. do the right thing. I don't want to do the

  441. wrong thing. I think that growing maturing Christians, that should

  442. be a part of our prayer all the time. So

  443. I looked up other places. Psalm thirty two, the Lord

  444. says in verse eight. Psalm thirty two eight, the Lord says,

  445. I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.

  446. I will advise you and watch over you. Right isn'

  447. They're great? Proverbs three five and six. I've already said this.

  448. But trust in the Lord with all your heart, and

  449. lean not on your own understanding and all your ways.

  450. Submit to him, and he will make your path straight

  451. right Isaiah, chapter thirty, verse twenty one. Whether you turn

  452. to the right or to the left, your ears will

  453. hear a voice behind you saying, this is the way,

  454. walk in it right, and that great one, that's great

  455. Some one nineteen one oh five the verse you quoted,

  456. your word is a lamp from my feet and a

  457. light on my path. We just read Psalm twenty five,

  458. four and five. But Jesus says, and this is it

  459. right here, Jesus answered, I am the Way, the Truth,

  460. and the Life. No one comes to the Father except

  461. through me. So when you're not sure what to do,

  462. what would Jesus do? It's the best question. It's kind

  463. of a joke, WWJD. What would Jesus do? But the

  464. reality is that's the best measure. If you're not sure

  465. what else do? What can you imagine Jesus doing in

  466. this time, in this timeframe. And this is one of

  467. the reasons why I hid it all the time. Hey, Jesus,

  468. walk in the power of the Holy Spirit. As a man,

  469. and so if he could, so can we we can

  470. get guidance from the Holy Spirit, we could do the

  471. right thing. And God's always going to show us through

  472. his words when we're not sure. Can we just imagine Jesus,

  473. you know, punching that guy in the nose. Can we

  474. imagine Jesus, you know, cheating on his spouse. Can we

  475. imagine Jesus, you know, cussing somebody out at the counter.

  476. Can we imagine Jesus right, Or on the other hand,

  477. can we imagine Jesus helping that person? Can we imagine

  478. Jesus showing compassion when everybody else is mocking them? Right?

  479. So there's a if you can see Jesus is the way. Now,

  480. I understand he's saying he's the way to God, but

  481. he says I'm also the life. And I understand he's

  482. talking about eternal life, he's also talking about this life. God.

  483. Jesus doesn't minimize this life while he also maxismides the other.

  484. So there's kind of two sides to all these on

  485. the way, the truth and the life. And he's our

  486. truth for today even while he's the truth for eternity,

  487. he's our life for today. Even while he's our life

  488. for eternity, he's our way for today, even while he's

  489. our way into eternity. And so I think that when

  490. you take all the rest of the passions in scripture

  491. that show how God shows us the way. Yeah, proverbs

  492. say a man devises us his way, but the Lord

  493. directs his footsteps. Right, that's it. And what is the

  494. direction for a godly person? The same direction Jesus went.

  495. That's what he asked his disciples to do. Just follow me.

  496. That was it. And it's not as complicated and mystical

  497. as people want to make it. God's not looking at

  498. Oh no, they're having fun, right, God's not upset at

  499. you if you're trying to seek Him with all of

  500. your heart. Right.

  501. So that's great. Well, hey, that's a great place to end.

  502. And so hopefully we will see you tomorrow on the

  503. Bible Gosh,
