  1. You're listening to The Bible Guys, a podcast where a

  2. couple of friends talk about the Bible in fun, in

  3. practical ways.

  4. Hey, everybody, thanks for tuning in to another episode of

  5. The Bible Guys.

  6. Yeah, I'm Chris and I'm Wesley, and.

  7. So we're here.

  8. Where are your Bibba guys this week? Because Jeff's out

  9. of town and we're in the middle of a series

  10. called Dangerous Prayers.

  11. Yeah.

  12. But before we get do that, we have a segment

  13. called Hot Takes Showdown.

  14. This is a newer segment.

  15. You've ever done this one, you know, I've never done

  16. this one.

  17. Okay.

  18. So it says, and so Desiree says, I'll give you

  19. a controversial statement and you must either defend it or

  20. debunk it and get this no middle ground.

  21. Okay, so you got to go after it. Yeah, So

  22. whatever opinion.

  23. You have this is it, go after it with the.

  24. Reckless, abandoned.

  25. Okay, here we go. Ready, here's the first statement. Crocs

  26. are fashionable.

  27. Oh that's easy. No, yeah, they are not fashionable. They

  28. might be comfortable, yeah, but they are not fashionable. Yes.

  29. I'm a hard no on the cross and my daughter

  30. loves crocs like when we like, go on vacation or whatever,

  31. she'll throw all the Crocs in the suitcase. So yeah,

  32. but I'm a hard no on the fashionable aspect.

  33. Yeah no, what about I'm so sorry, this is low lighting.

  34. Room is killing me.

  35. What about crocs with no socks?

  36. Is it people wear crocs with socks all the top? No,

  37. that is a major pop No. No socks with no socks,

  38. with sandals of any kind. I agree, and I'm putting

  39. crocs in the sandals category.

  40. But and so I tell you what I like to

  41. be controversial.

  42. I like to like I would like to go the

  43. other way and say crocs are fashionable they're the worst.

  44. Yeah.

  45. So so yeah, I'm with you on that. That's my

  46. hot take as well. So that is fuel right, you

  47. want to do the second one?

  48. Okay, the moon landing was filmed but not faked. It

  49. was just really boring, so they reshot it.

  50. Oh my goodness.

  51. Yes, So it's not saying that before. I don't think this.

  52. Desiree choose this because she knows this is a hot topic.

  53. I'm not sure how well Desiree knows on this area.

  54. I'd be very interested to hear a serious take on this.

  55. For you.

  56. Yeah, I don't so, I'm in the camp. I don't

  57. believe it was faked, Okay, I was Was there something

  58. filmed that wasn't the actual moon landing?

  59. And was that part of the equation or.

  60. Was See that's a different conversation. Said, well, so it

  61. did they walk on the Moon? Did they? I believe

  62. that one hundred percent that that happened. Did This is

  63. a more complex question. And the reason I say that

  64. is you got to remember where the United States was

  65. at the time, with Russia, the Cold War, the space

  66. race and all of that. The US would have done

  67. whatever was necessary to cast a positive light on the mission.

  68. So could there have been some photo touch ups or

  69. something quite possibly? I don't know, but that's that could

  70. very well be possible. But as it relates to they

  71. actually go to the Moon, I think they actually went

  72. to the moon.

  73. You know, it's you know, it's you know, it's interesting.

  74. Is so.

  75. Fifty years ago, even even thirty years ago, before the Internet,

  76. there was really no debate at all about whether there

  77. was any conspiracy for moon lighting.

  78. Right, Yeah?

  79. Yeah, I mean we haven't heard this until probably the

  80. last what ten years, Yeah, probably the last five years.

  81. Really a lot depending on you know, your your chat

  82. threat of your algorithm. Some of you you're like, this

  83. is a thing, right, but you have no algorithm, you

  84. know whatever. That's fine, But once you sort of dive

  85. down the.

  86. Hole, go down the rabbit trail, on the rabbit trail,

  87. then all of.

  88. A sudden that the algorithm on your social media brings

  89. everything up. And because I went down the rabbit hole,

  90. I've seen everything there is to see. Just about I

  91. have seen every single conspiracy theory reel, and I've seen

  92. i would say almost as much, not quite as much,

  93. but almost as much defensive reels, right like this is

  94. this is absolute proof that we've gone to the moon.

  95. You know, just you know science, you know all the

  96. science behind everything, right, And so here's what I find

  97. very interesting.

  98. I find very interesting.

  99. I'll just say I'll just say this that. So let's

  100. pretend you're NASA, okay, and all of a sudden, and

  101. by the way, NASA claims currently this is all fact.

  102. You can google all this NASA currently claims. Number one,

  103. They're like, hey, let's where's the technology to go back

  104. to the moon. They literally say this is the this

  105. is their official statement. It get lost somehow, and they say, well,

  106. do we have the technology go back to the moon

  107. and they go no, and they say where why? They say, well,

  108. we lost that, we don't know. And they say, okay,

  109. well let's let's review original tapes. And they say they

  110. were misplaced, didn't know where they are, so nothing exists. Okay, okay,

  111. now that's just a fact. Now now your opinion about that,

  112. I don't know.

  113. Okay.

  114. They also say, uh, you know, back in the sixties, uh,

  115. with with with less technology that was in this phone,

  116. we were able to get past the you know, the

  117. h that radiation barrier, you know, the humans and get

  118. to the moon somehow with technology in a little chef

  119. you know, shuttle that looked like it was a tin can.

  120. And now here we are, you know, almost one hundred

  121. years later. It seems like, what is it eighty years later?

  122. And uh, and we can't even come close to doing that,

  123. So we've not send anybody back, right and all the

  124. technologies lost now right then and there you can have

  125. your opinions and then if you want to analyze all

  126. the footage and everything else. And so I'm just so

  127. I see very compelling things. For I see very compelling

  128. things against So, if you're NASA and you have the

  129. entire your world beating down on your door saying, I

  130. can't believe that you lied to us, Just prove that

  131. you went. And then of course you have buzz Aldron

  132. who's publicly said that it was a hoax. He's online

  133. saying we didn't go. He said that three times, he

  134. said that publicly, and people are like, oh, he's crazy,

  135. that old man, right, and and so so you have

  136. all these things. So if you're NASA and you have

  137. all this controversy, right, why would you allow the film

  138. that was just made by h Channing Tatum and Scarlett

  139. Johansson called Fly Me the Moon? Why would you allow

  140. that to be filmed on NASA property? Do you know

  141. what the film's about? No, Okay, we're only that six minutes,

  142. so I'll make this very quickly. Basically it's about what

  143. they're saying is it's not based on a true story, right.

  144. But basically what they're saying is they made they made

  145. a movie that says, no, the filming was real, but

  146. because because that the moon landing was real, it was

  147. it was absolutely what happened, but because they were worried

  148. that it might not have been able to happen.

  149. They hired the.

  150. Scarlett Johansson person to hire a director, and they created

  151. a movie set. And so all those controversial tapes where

  152. it says he's on wires, yeah, look, you can tell

  153. there's a wire, this movie said, no, there was a set.

  154. And so they filmed it, and they went live to

  155. the nation on set, right, and then all of a

  156. sudden when they landed, they're like, switch over, switch over,

  157. and then they switched over and so and so what

  158. they did was that movie somehow just planted like a

  159. solution to the controversy that says, oh, I guess both

  160. were true, right, I guess there was a set. For

  161. all the you know, the all the all the film

  162. analysis people that are like, here's the ten things that

  163. prove this is fake. The film this film said, oh,

  164. both things happened at once, and NASA agreed to have

  165. that film be filmed on NASA property. Now, if that,

  166. if there was no set, why would you.

  167. Ever entertain the idea of the idea and planet.

  168. In the American public that there was a set and

  169. by the way of all the things, and and it

  170. sounds crazy because I'm a Holloway guy. Of all the

  171. things that I'm confused about, that's the biggest one. NASA

  172. said yes to that film, And it's like, why would

  173. you ever do that?

  174. Dude?

  175. If I'm if I'm if I'm standing on the truth,

  176. I'm I'm going I'm doubling down and I'm saying, there

  177. is no guys, there is no way this is fake,

  178. right and and and come on there was nothing was

  179. faked in front of the public eye. Instead, they're like, yeah,

  180. come film.

  181. I think you're a private investigator in your part time.

  182. Yeah, yeah, well, which okay, listen, we have we have

  183. we have fifteen seconds for your response. Yeah, what is

  184. your hot take on my little NASA thing?

  185. So I think the idea of having a backup is

  186. plausible in terms of American morale during that period when

  187. we were up against the Russians. So they had already

  188. got spot Nick.

  189. But they didn't admit that that film is real.

  190. So no, I but I believe that it's plausible that

  191. someone thought, hey, we probably need to have a backup

  192. in case things go wrong. That that's plausible sure, in

  193. understanding how things were in that period.

  194. And I think that's the reason why the movie was

  195. made because of what you just said. But that's not

  196. my question. Yeah, my question is, and that'sad denies it.

  197. They said they said there was no set so why

  198. would they allow that film to be filmed?

  199. Yeah? I think if in some classified archive. Okay, think

  200. someone knows the truth.

  201. All right, all right, Well that it's definitely a hot

  202. take topic.

  203. Yeah, yeah, did good on that one.

  204. All right, Well, let's good move on, because even though

  205. that is super controversial, you know what else is controversial?

  206. Acts Chapter four.

  207. Yeah, I don't know about that one.

  208. Well, no, no, no, it is.

  209. Yeah, they pray for boldness even though they're being crucy cuted. Yeah,

  210. that's a dangerous prayer. Then that's controversial.

  211. That is true. It's a stretch, but it's true.

  212. Okay, well it's that transition.

  213. Yeah, So here we go, Acts Chapter four, versus twenty

  214. three through thirty one, and it says as soon as

  215. they were freed, Peter and John returned to the other

  216. believers and told them what the leading priests and elders

  217. had said. When they heard the report, all the believers

  218. lifted their voices together in prayers to God, Oh Sovereign Lord,

  219. Creator of Heaven and Earth, the sea, and everything in them.

  220. You spoke long ago by the Holy Spirit, through our

  221. ancestor David, your servants, saying, why are the nations so angry?

  222. Why did they waste their time with futile plans? The

  223. kings of the earth prepared for battle. The rulers gathered

  224. together against the Lord and against his Messiah Verse twenty seven.

  225. In fact, this has happened here in this very city

  226. for herod Antipus, pontious Pilot, the governor, the Gentiles, and

  227. the people of Israel were all united against Jesus, your

  228. holy servant, whom you anointed. But everything they did was

  229. determined beforehand, according to your will. And now, O Lord,

  230. hear their threats and give us your servants great boldness

  231. in preaching your word. Stretch out your hand with healing power.

  232. May your miraculous signs and wonders be done through the

  233. name of your holy Servant Jesus. After this prayer, the

  234. meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the

  235. Holy Spirit. Then they preached the Word of God with boldness.

  236. Yeah that was good.

  237. Yeah, it's really good. And the context is in chapter

  238. four earlier. It says Peter and John went before the council.

  239. So they went to the council of all the rulers

  240. and elders and teachers of the religious law, and they

  241. met in Jerusalem.

  242. So they were.

  243. Being tried, they were being accused, and so they didn't

  244. back down. And so I want to read this note

  245. here in the Transformation Study Bible. It says, covering verses

  246. nineteen through twenty two, it says the failure of the

  247. council was evident when Peter refused to be intimidated by

  248. their threats. All we need to do is follow Peter's

  249. example to make our decisions on the basis of is

  250. it right and not is it popular or is it safe.

  251. We must be sure, however, that we have clear teaching

  252. of the Word of God on our side before we

  253. take a stand against the authority of the government. Peter

  254. knew what the Lord had commanded believers to do and

  255. ast chapter one, verse eight, for he was going to

  256. obey him at any cost.

  257. And so I love that.

  258. The idea that like Peter and John were accused, they

  259. stood up and then they said this prayer after they

  260. were freed, which is why it started by you saying

  261. as soon as they were freed, right, Peter and John returned.

  262. You know, it's interesting in our nation. Last weekend we

  263. made a statement about all the horrible things that were

  264. going on in our nation. And to be honest with you,

  265. it's always a difficult thing whenever, whenever something happens that

  266. shakes our nation to the core of its you know,

  267. faith and everything else. It's like people are feeling a

  268. lot of different things and you want to address it.

  269. But at the same time, if you're a leader, and

  270. by the way, that doesn't just mean church leader. It

  271. means if you're like a person on the news or

  272. Jimmy Kimmel, right, I mean he's in the news today

  273. because of it. Right, we all have to make choices

  274. about what we're going to say in the stand that

  275. we're going to take. And to be honest with you,

  276. it wasn't so we made a statement at our church,

  277. but it wasn't political. It wasn't about right or left.

  278. It wasn't about what happened to our nation according to

  279. all these arguments of agreeing or disagreeing, it wasn't about that.

  280. And that's one thing that I like about heritage is

  281. the fact that we don't take a political stance. If

  282. anyone wants to know what stance we take, it's that

  283. we believe that Jesus Christ is Lord. Yeah, that's the

  284. stance that we take.

  285. And if it is a political topic, we will preach

  286. from the Bible.

  287. Yes.

  288. And one of the things that I was always so

  289. impressed with is Jeff Forrest, Our lead pastor, says, he goes, Hey,

  290. he goes, instead of getting up there and using politically

  291. charged words, he said, those are man made words. So

  292. why would I use politically charged words that everybody has

  293. their own interpretation on what they're going to attach to

  294. those words.

  295. He says.

  296. Instead, here's what I do. He goes, I preach on

  297. the same topic, only I used Bible words. And he goes,

  298. So if you ever wonder what we believe, he goes,

  299. He goes, you can't yell at me because I didn't

  300. write it.

  301. I didn't write the Bible.

  302. He goes, I'm just going to preach the Bible, use

  303. Bible words, and it could be the same exact topic,

  304. and I'll preach the Bible, he goes. He goes, so

  305. there's no question on what we believe. So if somebody says, oh,

  306. pick a candidate it's like, well, you can probably guess

  307. which candidate we're going to vote for based on what

  308. we have preached and what we believe, right, because we're

  309. just going to preach the Bible and we're going to

  310. let you put two and two together, because after all,

  311. that's what every believer is called to do anyway. And

  312. I didn't mean to get on a topic rant. In fact,

  313. that wasn't even my focus or a political rant. I

  314. wasn't even I wasn't even trying to do that. What

  315. I was trying to say is this, we made a

  316. statement that wasn't you know, right or left or anything

  317. like that. We made a statement and said, it's not

  318. important about you know, whether you agree or disagree. The

  319. important thing is how do you act, interact, and react

  320. when you disagree? Right, Because that's what Christ called us

  321. to do. So it doesn't matter what the topic is

  322. when you disagree, the initiative is clear. Right, this is

  323. how you should behave as ladies and gentlemen. You can

  324. still disagree with somebody and worship them with them side

  325. by side. Right, You don't have to have acts of

  326. violence and hatred.

  327. Right.

  328. It's like Christ calls the church to be the church

  329. no matter what, and that was sort of our statement

  330. in our prayer, right, help us to be a nation

  331. that is willing to do that. Well, the idea of

  332. even making any kind of statement publicly, you have to

  333. go back to sort of this idea, which is like,

  334. am I going to do this? And then you have

  335. to ask your question, youlf, the question is this the

  336. right thing to do? And is it the wrong thing

  337. to do to be too cowardice not to say anything,

  338. or do you figure out a hard way and do

  339. the hard work to be able to say, no, this

  340. is the right thing to do, and we're going to

  341. put all the work into it.

  342. Dude.

  343. It took us hours to come up with a three

  344. minute response, hours of conversation, but because we felt like

  345. this is the right thing to do, and so we

  346. want to stand on the side of what is right.

  347. And we said what we meant and we didn't say

  348. anything wrong and it wasn't charged in any way. We

  349. just we just want to we just want to say

  350. what we feel like God wants us to say to

  351. the people who are fearful and going through a lot

  352. of different things. Right, Yeah, and it's not based on

  353. one event. I mean you know, there were things that

  354. happened in our country, they go back a month and

  355. a half ago, that are very, very disturbing, and people

  356. are having a really hard time.

  357. Yeah.

  358. Right, but you stand up for what is right.

  359. Yeah, you do what is right. Yeah, Verse twenty nine.

  360. Just to dig into that, it says, and now, oh Lord,

  361. hear their threats, and give us your servants great boldness

  362. in preaching your word. For some reason, when I read that,

  363. I think of a person at work in the context

  364. of Jesus not being convenient. Sometimes when you work out

  365. in the world, it's easier not to mention Jesus, not

  366. to mention that you go to work, to go to church,

  367. not to mention that you know, you're in a small group.

  368. It's just easier sometimes in the workplace to kind of

  369. I think of Homer, you know that meme of Homer

  370. Simpson going back into the bushes. Yes, it's just kind

  371. of good.

  372. Yeah, so good, because it's attached to so many different things.

  373. Yeah, but that's what it reminds me of when I

  374. read this, that you know, sometimes it's easier to not

  375. say that you're a follower of Jesus, Like when Peter

  376. was confronted, aren't Aren't you one of those you know,

  377. followers of Jesus. No, I never met the man, you know,

  378. that kind of thing. So I think they're saying here

  379. is in times like that, you need to have boldness.

  380. That's right, you need to speak up. There could be

  381. someone in your workplace that is going through something and

  382. they find out that you're a Christian and they're like, man,

  383. I can go to that person for advice. Yeah, I

  384. can go to that person for some godly counsel. Yeah.

  385. I can go to that person for help. But it's

  386. gonna take a little bit of boldness on your part

  387. to make that be known.

  388. Yeah.

  389. And you know what the funny thing is is people

  390. of most people, most people, they will follow if somebody

  391. first steps up.

  392. Yeah. Right. So I'm not saying that you have.

  393. To be this great and courageous leader of people right

  394. to lead them a great, big movement.

  395. Yeah. We're not saying go to work with a big house,

  396. Bible under your arm, and like all of those things.

  397. We're not.

  398. You know, in a social setting, most people have a

  399. tendency to just be quiet, Yeah, until, like, you know,

  400. somebody speaks up and I can't even tell you. I'm

  401. a speak up kind of person. So I can't even

  402. tell you the number of times in my entire life

  403. where I've been in a setting, a public setting, where

  404. there's either a handful or larger group of people in

  405. the room and and something's happening. It's going one way

  406. and it's a negative way or a wrong way, and

  407. then I'm looking around, going is anybody gonna say anything?

  408. And so then I'll speak up. And as soon as

  409. I speak up, like ten other people are like, yeah,

  410. I feel that way also.

  411. Yeah, And it's like, well, why didn't you say anything?

  412. Yeah. But it's like, but I don't have to be

  413. a great leader of this movement. I just have to

  414. voice my opinion and just be bold enough, which is.

  415. What Peter is saying. Peter's saying, let us be bold.

  416. Of course, this is the context of like, let us

  417. be bold in the sense to where we may lose

  418. our lives.

  419. Yeah, we may go to prison. There's a great cost

  420. to this. Great even in the workplace, there could be

  421. a great cost. You don't want to be kind of ostracized, right,

  422. you know, you don't want to be the oh you're

  423. one of those Jesus people one of those holy rollers,

  424. you know.

  425. So yeah, yeah, there could be a little bit of
