  1. So in this chapter we're about to read the Apostle,

  2. Peter is sticking it to the man.

  3. Wow. So he's Chris, I'm Jeff. We're the Daily Bibble guys. Okay, hey,

  4. you always laugh on that.

  5. Yeah, it's just the the the ending of the intro.

  6. I have to wait for it. It goes and I'm

  7. just waiting. I'm like, is it going to be over

  8. any time?

  9. So it's building intensity.

  10. Yes, it's intensity. It's so intense this podcast.

  11. So here's the deal. I just decided to pull up

  12. a list just for fun. By the way, I just

  13. decided like two seconds ago to do this. It is

  14. a list of the top paying jobs.

  15. In the world.

  16. Wow.

  17. So I want you and by the way, I'm just

  18. going to give you a hint. Okay, out of the

  19. top like five, i've they're pretty much all in.

  20. The medical field, okay, okay, okay.

  21. Well as if you couldn't have guessed that, okay.

  22. Okay, So what do you think out of all the

  23. medical So it's not.

  24. Lead teaching pastor that I thought that was going to

  25. be in the list.

  26. Bro, it didn't even make those lists.

  27. No, I have no idea on these brain surgeons.

  28. So number. That's a good guest. That's a good guess.

  29. It is not.

  30. No, believe it or not, it is not according to

  31. this list.

  32. Okay, again, every every list on the internet must be real.

  33. But these actually have median incomes with actual sound.

  34. I can read this out because nobody make that up.

  35. You know, everybody has a keyboard. You can just push

  36. any number you want to push on it. Let me see.

  37. So not brains, Wikipedia, heart surgeons.

  38. No, it says, by the way, they're on here. I

  39. don't know, man, it's anesthesiologists. Anesthesiologists make the median income

  40. is three hundred and thirty one thousand dollars.

  41. What that's what it.

  42. Says, all right, I had no idea.

  43. And then oral or maxi facial surgeons.

  44. People who rebuild the faith, right.

  45. Uh, gynecologists almost three hundred thousand. Then then surgeons which

  46. includes heart, brain, uh you know, orthodonists, and then uh

  47. so anyway, then it goes down and then guess the

  48. one profession that is outside of medical. It's the first

  49. profession outside of medical that makes the most money.

  50. Oh, computer programmers.

  51. Yeah you would think so. Yeah, psychiatrists.

  52. Psychiatrists in the medical field. Little bit Well, they're just

  53. working on your on your on your emotions and your brain.

  54. Well that's I guess that's probably true. Well then gee whiz.

  55. Then you get to go all the way down to

  56. like a general title of chief executives. Okay, yeah, uh,

  57. pediatricians Okay. Outside of that, then we have Airpine airplane,

  58. airline pilots.

  59. I don't know why that was so hard for me

  60. to read.

  61. I don't know, it's tough.

  62. My brain wanted to say here, yeah, that's a tough one.

  63. That's a tough one.

  64. Airline pilots, co pilots and flight engineers.

  65. You know what they make?

  66. How much?

  67. What do you think?

  68. Three million?

  69. You stink?

  70. I don't know.

  71. You're like, you're like that guy that says like you're like,

  72. hey man, I went through the airport the other day,

  73. I got a hot talk. You'll never believe what it was.

  74. And you would go like fifty dollars yeah, and shut

  75. me down. No, dude, come on, six bucks man, geez,

  76. you kind of ruined my story.

  77. Okay, so you don't want me to ruin your story.

  78. They make one hundred and ninety five thousand.

  79. That's great, one hundred ninety eight thousand, bam, did you cheat?

  80. No, okay, I just know stuff. Well, no you didn't

  81. because you said three million.

  82. Well no, I was trying to make it interesting for you.

  83. But if you want to me me precise, I'll take

  84. you there.

  85. Yeah, so that's it all right.

  86. Yeah, I've read before.

  87. So uh so you've had other jobs? Real quick, we

  88. have you have thirty seconds.

  89. I've had other jobs.

  90. What is the.

  91. Most interesting job that you've had outside of being a pastor?

  92. You have thirty second ago.

  93. Yeah, I worked at the Flagship Marriott Hotel in Chicago

  94. on Michigan Avenue and Magnificent Mile for quite a while,

  95. and I loved that job. Loved it customer service. But

  96. basically we had twelve hundred and eighty rooms or something

  97. like that. Twe hundred and forty nine rooms, and I

  98. solved all the problems people call and complain and I

  99. found ways to solve that. I had a whole crew

  100. of people who could rush to solve your problem.

  101. Magnificent problem solver her.

  102. Yeah, it was good. What was your favorite job.

  103. Well, pastor, outside of pastor?

  104. Yeah, yeah, I would have to say definitely. Back when

  105. telemarketing wasn't rejected by people, it was definitely telemarketing.

  106. Really, I did tele marketing for a lot while I

  107. hated it. Yeah, back then I don't like cold calls.

  108. That oh I loved it.

  109. Yeah, I'd imagine you're that irritating person. Now your personality

  110. is just irritating enough. I can see that.

  111. Hey, thank you for that.

  112. But listen, it is almost a hard thing to believe

  113. that you would call somebody and the number one they

  114. would even answer, and then number two they'd.

  115. Say, absolutely, I have ten minutes. But when telemarking was new, Yeah, yeah.

  116. That's every single person said that.

  117. I'm not everybody, but a lot of people.

  118. Okay, Well, anyways, there's it. So my favorite job was

  119. serving people. In your favorite job was fleecing people.

  120. No, making money from people. Yeah, that was my favorite job.

  121. Okay. So today we are continuing in the Book of Acts,

  122. and now the Holy Spirit has come and the Gospel

  123. is spreading their behaving like the church. And now you're

  124. seeing the people of the church step up in the

  125. power of the Holy Spirit, and you're seeing incredible impact.

  126. So here's just one illustration out of Acts chapter three.

  127. It says Peter and John went to the temple one

  128. afternoon to take part in the three o'clock prayer service.

  129. As they approached the temple, a man lame from birth

  130. was being carried in. Each day. He was put beside

  131. the temple gate, the one called the Beautiful Gate, so

  132. he could beg from the people going into the temple.

  133. And when he saw Peter and John about to enter,

  134. he asked them for some money. Peter and John looked

  135. at him intently, and Peter said, look at us. The

  136. lame man looked at them eagerly and expecting some money,

  137. But Peter said, I don't have any silver or gold

  138. for you, but I'll give you what I do have

  139. in the name of Jesus Christ. The nazarene get up

  140. and walk. Then Peter took the lame man by the

  141. right hand and helped him up, and as he did,

  142. the man's feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened.

  143. He jumped up, stood on his feet and began to walk,

  144. then walking, leaping and praising God. He went into the

  145. temple with them. All the people saw him walking and

  146. heard him praising God. And when they realized he was

  147. a lame beggar that they had seen so often at

  148. the Beautiful Gate, They were absolutely astounded. They all rushed

  149. out in amazement to Solomon's Colonnade, where the man was

  150. holding tightly to Peter and John. Peter saw his opportunity

  151. to address the crowd people of Israel. He said, what

  152. is so surprising about this? Why stare at us as

  153. though we had made this man walk by our own

  154. power or godliness? For it is the God of Abraham,

  155. Isaac and Jacob, the God of all our ancestors, who

  156. has brought glory to his servant Jesus by doing this.

  157. This is the same Jesus whom you handed over and

  158. rejected before Pilate, despite Pilot's decision to release him. You

  159. rejected this holy righteous One, and instead of demanded the

  160. release of a murderer, you killed the author of life.

  161. But God raised him from the dead, and we are

  162. witnesses of this fact. Through faith in the name of Jesus,

  163. this man was healed. And you know how crippled he

  164. was before Faith in Jesus' name has healed him. Before

  165. your very eyes, friends, I realize that you and your

  166. leaders did to Jesus was done in ignorance, but God

  167. was fulfilling what all the prophets have foretold about the

  168. Messiah that he must suffer these things. Now repent of

  169. your sins and turn to God so that your sins

  170. may be wiped away. Then times of refreshment will come

  171. from the presence of the Lord, and he will again

  172. send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah, for he must remain

  173. in heaven until the time for the final restoration of

  174. all things, as God promised long ago through his holy prophets. Wow,

  175. what a cool story. Well I'm in Yeah, well, I

  176. thought I thought you were in the story because it

  177. kept talking about the lame man. And then I just realized, oh,

  178. because I heard your dad jokes a couple of days ago,

  179. you know. And then I realized, Oh, he's not talking

  180. about you, just being lame.

  181. So let me get this straight.

  182. While reading God's Word, the one thing on your mind,

  183. Dominantly was I can make a joke of God's.

  184. Word when it's talking about lame same I'm trying to

  185. figure out how to shame. I'm always anytime, I'm trying

  186. to figure out how to apply it. And the only

  187. lame person I know is.

  188. Yeah, the only lame guy that's terrible. You know, this

  189. is an unbelievable story. And here's what I think. I

  190. think this is the first recorded instance of Peter committing

  191. this type of miracle. Yeah, now I have to believe

  192. that it would be the first instance. Right, It doesn't

  193. necessarily mean that it was, but I'm we're pretty sure

  194. that it was. And so if you think about the

  195. faith that Peter had, I mean, these are the same conversations,

  196. you know. It reminds me of the conversations where they

  197. went back to Jesus, remember in the Gospels, and they said.

  198. Why don't we have the power to drive out demons?

  199. You know?

  200. And why don't we have your same power, Jesus?

  201. You know?

  202. And they were sort of, you know, always trying to

  203. you know, want to be you know, Jesus's messengers and

  204. and and carry his power. But now Peter does this

  205. in a way to where he says the command first

  206. and then helps the man up, which means with absolute

  207. confidence and belief, he says, rise and walk in the

  208. name of Jesus the Nazarene, and then he helps him up,

  209. and then it happens. And there's no like, you know,

  210. there's no moment where it's recorded where Peter says, I

  211. hope this works. You know, so we we see we

  212. feel a sense of confidence, and and so think about it.

  213. Wouldn't you be confident if you just experienced the fiery

  214. tongues in Acts chapter two?

  215. Yeah?

  216. Absolutely, just the absolute miraculous things that you know, you

  217. see Jesus ascend to heaven.

  218. Yeah, and then and then then.

  219. You so I mean, then you preach in your language,

  220. but everybody hears in their language, right, right, So why.

  221. Would Peter not have absolute confidence because it isn't Jesus

  222. anymore leading the miraculous things, it's them experience miraculous things, right,

  223. And so Peter's thinking, hey, we've got this. Jesus told

  224. us one day we would have it, right, He told

  225. me I was the Rock, and and and and so

  226. this is where Peter starts, you know, becoming more rock like.

  227. Right, right.

  228. And I think it's awesome.

  229. And you'll also notice the theme the miracles that happened

  230. through the Book of Acts. Almost all of them have

  231. the purpose of being able to share the Gospel with

  232. people who otherwise wouldn't have paid attention to the gospel. Right,

  233. So this is bringing validation to what other people, many

  234. of the other Jews would have viewed that viewed Christianity

  235. as a cult, as we mentioned before, and so these

  236. miracles are bringing validation to the message of the Gospel

  237. to people who would otherwise have never listened to the gospel.

  238. I'm sure there were other lame people in and around Jerusalem,

  239. and by laying mean crip yes, cripple people not like Maine, right, right,

  240. they would be like in this situation. So that was

  241. a joke before, but this this is for real. I'm

  242. sure that there were other people who couldn't walk in Jerusalem,

  243. but it was this guy on this day that was

  244. necessary for the opportunity to share the gospel immediately afterwards. Right,

  245. So there are sick people that don't get healed even

  246. though they believe in the name of Jesus. There are

  247. because that's it's part of life. It's part of the

  248. consequence of us living in a broken world, all those

  249. kinds of things. And this isn't heaven, right, So perfect

  250. healing does come in heaven. But in this circumstance, God

  251. saw fit to heal this guy for the purpose of

  252. Peter being able to step up and share the gospel afterwards.

  253. And that's what you'll see throughout most of the miracles

  254. throughout the rest of the Book of Acts is those

  255. kinds of miracles. You know. I was just in Nepaul

  256. and a guy was sharing his testimony. He was Hindu

  257. and his whole family were Hindus, and he did not

  258. know Jesus at all, didn't even know his name. Then

  259. somebody introduced Jesus to his family and to him, and

  260. he was very interested, but his family was very aggressive

  261. against it. We don't want this imported Jesus. We don't

  262. want this colonial god. They've just pushed away. This is

  263. a foreigner's god. And Christians, you know, they call us

  264. cow eaters, and you know many of the Hindus worship cows,

  265. and so they are offended even by our behavior in general.

  266. And can you imagine, right, So he said, they wind

  267. up having this horrible circumstance, and he prays to all

  268. of his gods, and none of his gods will work.

  269. And so then he said, Jesus, if you're the real God,

  270. would you do this miracle? And then immediately this miracle

  271. happens and the whole family goes, oh wow. So then

  272. this friend who had introduced Jesus to them before came

  273. back is able to share the Gospel with them. They

  274. all become followers of Christ, and they banish all their

  275. other gods and they only now serve Jesus. This miracle

  276. happened for the purpose of these people being able to

  277. come to faith in Christ. And he said, that's the

  278. only major miracle we've had in our lives, apart from

  279. the everyday miracles, but the one where we called on

  280. Jesus for a miracle, and it was for the purpose

  281. of the Gospel being able to be made clear to them.

  282. I think that's most of the miracles we see throughout

  283. Christianity and certainly in the Bible.

  284. Yeah, that's amazing. Yeah.

  285. So my brother Jim, he's a he was a former

  286. pastor in Texas and still is involved in ministry in

  287. very significant ways.

  288. And he works with.

  289. Those who are Indian, right, so they're directly from India.

  290. In fact, they come over to the United States and

  291. the state of Texas calls him personally and asks him

  292. to host them when they arrive from their nights, you know,

  293. from developing countries.

  294. Yea.

  295. So he is this big ministry and you know, he's

  296. sort of in charge of like five or six hundred

  297. people that he talks to almost on a weekly basis

  298. from India. So anyway, but he always tells me, he says,

  299. so learning about polytheism and how they believe in multiple

  300. gods Holly means multiple yeah, as opposed to God, monotheism

  301. or theism. So anyway, he says, he goes, it's a

  302. really strange thing to have to learn that. You have

  303. to sort of start with Jesus is a god among

  304. many gods, right, He's a god, and then you have

  305. to graduate to the Jesus.

  306. Is the God, I mean who. That's just an unbelievable

  307. thing to have to manage.

  308. Well, it's incomprehensible because you know, for us, we've grown

  309. up even if you're not growing up in a Christian family,

  310. you've grown up in a Judeo Christian world where the

  311. general ideas that there was this good man named Jesus

  312. who claimed to be God, Easter, Christmas, Resurrection, all that

  313. kind of stuff. Generally, know the idea, even if you

  314. don't know the specifics. Whereas when you get it dealing

  315. with the Gospel and places where they have no concept

  316. at all, then how do you penetrate into that. One

  317. of the ways would be the miracles. The other way

  318. it would be starting where they're at and bringing them

  319. to Jesus, which is both tactics you find in the

  320. Book of Acts.

  321. You know. Let me comment on this real quick. I

  322. had a really good thought, and that is Peter's.

  323. Good We're hoping we've been waiting for a good thought

  324. from you.

  325. Thanks Jeff.

  326. Verse fourteen, where Peter looks at the crowd after he

  327. says this is Jesus, he says, you rejected this holy

  328. righteous one and instead demanded the release of a murder.

  329. And then he says, you killed the author of life.

  330. So he looks at a crowd who he's trying to

  331. give the gospel to. And gospels, by the way, the

  332. word gospel means good news. It's the good news about

  333. the resurrection of Jesus. So he's trying to spread the

  334. good news, tell them that they need to believe in Jesus.

  335. And the first thing that he says to this listening

  336. crowd is you killed the author of life. That is

  337. such an unbelievably strong statement. But how it relates to

  338. us is this. I learned a long time ago that

  339. in order to get a people person to realize that

  340. they need Jesus. They need to be lost before they're found.

  341. That's right.

  342. People need to know their sins.

  343. You know, the Bible says that the first thing that

  344. we need to learn is that we need to be saved.

  345. And in order to be saved, we realize that we

  346. have to be lost. Right, you have to know that

  347. you're a sinner, saved from what, saved from what?

  348. Right.

  349. And so here's what Peter is doing, and it seems

  350. incredibly harsh, but Peter, you know, starts out with his statement, says,

  351. you want to talk about defining reality. You killed the

  352. author of life. That is what it is. And of

  353. course we don't know the people's reaction. But then he

  354. eventually says, now we know that you've done this by ignorance.

  355. We understand that you didn't understand it. It is the truth,

  356. but you didn't realize it. And then he then he

  357. sort of talks about, you know, Jesus and the story

  358. of Jesus.

  359. But it's real.

  360. There is no good news without some bad news, right,

  361. It's just all news.

  362. That's right, that's right. Right.

  363. So when I went in from my sert with with

  364. my really good my cancer doctor, you know, I didn't

  365. know I had cancer. We just knew something wasn't right.

  366. And then the doctor comes in after all the tests

  367. and he sits down and he says, listen, there's no

  368. good way to do this. He said, there's good news

  369. and bad news. I'm going to give you the bad news. First.

  370. You have cancer, and it's bad, and it's just quiet

  371. for a moment, you know, I think I want to cry.

  372. And he said, the good news is this, it's treatable,

  373. and we think we can get it all right. So

  374. I don't know that I would have been open to

  375. the idea of somebody cutting a ten inch incision in

  376. my side and taking out my kidney.

  377. Right unless I said, if I.

  378. Hadn't realized there's some bad news. The good news is

  379. we can manage this and treat it. Then, you know,

  380. so far all of my tests. Here we are almost

  381. two years later. It looks like I'm cancer free. Everything

  382. that they said, it's turned out that way. But I

  383. don't know that I would have responded with the need

  384. to please cut me open and cut something out of

  385. me if I hadn't known that there was some bad news.

  386. And it's the same thing. You don't know that you

  387. need to be saved until you know you need to

  388. be saved, and that means you have to understand what

  389. you need to be saved from. We're sinners and we're

  390. betting against God. We have a broken relationship with him,

  391. and the only answer is killed the author of life.

  392. But he said God raised him from the dead, and

  393. wear witnesses of this fact. So he gives bad news

  394. and good news back to back. So it's not just

  395. about shame on you. I think a lot of Christians

  396. they want everybody to change your behavior, and that's not

  397. the goal. The goal is to understand that everybody is

  398. apart from Christ and that Jesus is the answer that

  399. we can come to Christ. Christ will rescue us, save

  400. us from our sins if we would turn to him.

  401. So we got to get the Jesus, not just the

  402. shame on you part of it, but get the Jesus.

  403. The good news is what's important.

  404. Yeah, and we have to realize this as well, that

  405. if we dumbed down the bad news, then then we

  406. make the good news.

  407. Not that important.

  408. It's less.

  409. So think about it in terms of our salvation. So

  410. if you were to, like you know, so visually on

  411. video I'm raising my hand and I'm saying, like, you know,

  412. instead of being really high, you know, you sort of

  413. lower that bar and say, well, I'm not that bad

  414. of a person. I don't need Jesus as much as

  415. the next God, you know, and I've been pretty much

  416. good all my life. Then all of a sudden, it's like, wow,

  417. you don't even be from anything, do you, right?

  418. But the reality is no, you know, we.

  419. All sin and fall short of God's glory. You know,

  420. we are you know, destined to spend eternity away from

  421. God because of our sin. And therefore here's good news,

  422. And all of a sudden, the good news becomes very good, right,

  423. because the bad.

  424. News is very bad.

  425. I think it's important for everybody to understand, even Christians,

  426. our sin is far worse than we can imagine.

  427. Right.

  428. The guilt that we carry in our sin is far

  429. worse than anything we can imagine. But God's grace and

  430. God's love and the sacrifice that Jesus gave for us

  431. is far greater than we can even comprehend. Right, It's

  432. it's even greater than our guilt and our sin. So

  433. we need to elevate. Quite honestly, we need to if

  434. you're going to be honest, a real, honest, growing Christian,

  435. you have to elevate the consequence of your sin, and

  436. how horrible that is. Don't minimize it, elevate it. Just

  437. don't carry the guilt of it. Because Jesus carried that guilt.

  438. Jesus took that guilt. His grace is far superior to

  439. the worst thing that we could have possibly done.

  440. Yeah, and so for our listeners, just trying to you know,

  441. process all that, and it is. You know, the Bible

  442. says if a man or a woman thinks themselves to

  443. be higher than they are, right, then they fool themselves. Yeah,

  444. So not to think of yourself more righteous, you know,

  445. not to think of yourself as you know, not needing Jesus.

  446. Every one of us have a complete and utter dependence

  447. upon our God every single day.

  448. Yes, So all of that message comes, this good news

  449. message comes from the fact that Peter and John were

  450. walking into the temple to pray, right, which is really important.

  451. By the way, I was talking to a Muslim friend

  452. of mine, and he was surprised to find out that

  453. Christians pray regularly. He said, I know, Jews pray regular

  454. They prayed three times a day in the temple. Muslims

  455. will pray five times a day, but you know, Christians

  456. don't have a set time for prayer and always surprised.

  457. So I think it is important if you if you're

  458. going to be a person of faith in the public square,

  459. you need to be it needs to be noticed that

  460. you're praying not for the praise of people, but to

  461. establish that you're a person of prayer, right, and that

  462. your faith matters. I think that's important. But then so

  463. they're going into pray and then they stop and this

  464. guy's begging and they say, we don't have any money

  465. silver and gold have I none, But such as I

  466. have I give to thee right King James. And so

  467. what Peter realized was there's some things that are even

  468. more important than money. Did you know that? Did you

  469. know that?

  470. That's a shock? Right?

  471. You know?

  472. So often we see poor people, we see struggling people,

  473. we see difficult circumstances. And what we want to do

  474. is we will solve solve the physical problem. And even

  475. greater than the physical problem is the spiritual problem. So yes,

  476. we should feed hungry people, and clothe naked people, and

  477. house homeless people, all those things are important, but we shouldn't.

  478. We shouldn't do those without the Gospel. So he realized

  479. the most important thing was but such as I do have,

  480. I'll give to you, and that is faith in Christ.

  481. And he says later on it was his faith in

  482. the name of Jesus that healed him. It wasn't just

  483. faith in faith. Oh you gotta have faith, right, it's

  484. not that. It's faith in the name of Jesus Christ.

  485. And it was the mighty name of Jesus that healed them.

  486. And so more important than anything else you do at work,

  487. at school, with your friends and family, is get Jesus

  488. to those people's great well.

  489. I think that's a great place to end, and we

  490. will see you next time with the Bible guys,
