  1. You're listening to a message to go from Acts Church.

  2. We hope this message will light up your day.

  3. The Word of God. Are you ready? Joshua 1.6.

  4. May the Lord bless the reading of His Word. May

  5. the Lord bless this next, you know, 40 minutes of preaching.

  6. And may the Lord just really encourage all of you

  7. in this place.

  8. Let's read the Word of God together in Joshua 1.6.

  9. Ready? Here we go. And of good courage. For you

  10. shall the land I swore to give them. Be strong

  11. and of good courage. Be strong and of good courage. Okay.

  12. How many of you know that this Joshua chapter 1,

    Joshua 1 chapter mention

  13. God spoke to Joshua three times about the same thing.

  14. He said, be strong. and of good courage.

  15. Now, when I was thinking about what to share with

  16. you this morning, I have actually about three or four

  17. new messages that I would love to share with you.

  18. But for this morning, for some reason, the Lord puts

  19. on my heart that some of you need the word strong,

  20. be strong, and you need the reminder, be courageous. All right?

  21. Some of you need strength. from the Lord today.

  22. Some of you need strength just to be courageous, to

  23. live your life according to the promises of Jesus, which

  24. says He came to give us life and life more abundantly.

  25. So I've got a message on emotions today.

  26. Which I'll share with you another day.

  27. I've got a message on the root having to go

  28. deeper so that the fruit can grow more and more

  29. in your life.

  30. I have at least those two messages I hope to

  31. bring across to you.

  32. But for this morning, be strong and very courageous or

  33. of good courage.

  34. Turn to your neighbor now if you don't.

  35. Mind and just say, be strong and of good courage.

  36. Come on. Amen.

  37. Amen.

  38. All right.

  39. So let's look at Joshua 1.6 again without changing this slide.

  40. Let's look at what it's about.

  41. It says, Be strong and of good courage for to

  42. these people you shall divide. as an inheritance, the land,

  43. which I swore to their fathers. So, the next slide

  44. just has one word. The next slide just says, two. Why? Why?

  45. Why does he say two?

  46. Because the first time God says to Joshua, be strong

  47. and very courageous, He says, it is for you to

  48. do something.

  49. It's for you to.

  50. Divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to them.

  51. Now listen, the land has not yet been gotten. The

  52. land has not yet come. It is a promise of God,

  53. something that God swore to the people of Israel, that

  54. He's now asking a chosen leader, once upon a time

  55. it was Moses, and now it's Joshua, and God Himself

  56. is saying, be strong and of.

  57. Good courage too.

  58. And so there are people here in this room, you

  59. will understand that when you have a dream, when you

  60. have a vision, When you have a hope, a desire,

  61. something that you're looking forward to, it's not here yet.

  62. It hasn't arrived yet. It's not come.

  63. But you need to be strong and of good courage

  64. to get there. Because without that strength and without that courage,

  65. you might not get there or you might not get

  66. there in the time that God wants you to get there.

  67. There might be delay that was not meant by God

  68. and there might be discouragement along the way that you

  69. don't understand why you should go through it. There are disappointments.

  70. And so as you're walking this path towards your future,

  71. somebody say future.

  72. Future.

  73. God came to give us a future, and a hope.

  74. So as you're walking in the will of God, moving

  75. into His future, some of you will be parents soon.

  76. Some of you will have a new company soon. Some

  77. of you will be married soon. Some of you will

  78. be promoted soon. Some of you will do something new,

  79. buy a new car, a new house, whatever it is.

  80. It is new. It is ahead of you. It is

  81. before you. And really, there's going to be opposition. There's

  82. going to be things that won't go your way. There's

  83. going to be challenges. There's going to be bills that

  84. you didn't know was there. There's going to be anxiety.

  85. There's going to be fears. There's going to be things

  86. that you're not ready for. You're not ready for. You've

  87. never been through this way. You've never been pregnant before.

  88. You've never given birth before. You've never owned a house.

  89. You've never done this kind of work because this is

  90. not in your expertise. But somebody said, Would you take

  91. up that managerial role? And you're going to, I know

  92. nothing about it. So it's not only a new job,

  93. it's only a new skill. And you're going to have

  94. some fears. And you're going to have some anxiety. And

  95. so the Lord says to you, I'm almost prophesying now,

  96. be strong. And of good, courage. Because something good is

  97. about to happen in your life. Something of God, something awesome,

  98. something amazing.

  99. Come on.

  100. But it's not going to be a walk in the park.

  101. You know that term? It's not going to be so easy.

  102. In fact, good things in life never come easy. So

  103. God says to Joshua, I know you're going to see giants.

  104. I know you're going to see stuff as you enter

  105. the promised land. But be, come on, strong and of

  106. good courage.

  107. You got it? So we need strong and good courage

  108. just to. Where are you going? To where?

  109. To the next thing that God has in store for you.

  110. Embrace it with strength and courage. Now let's look at

  111. the second time God says it. Joshua 1.7 now. We

  112. read Joshua 1.6 and now 1.7. Only be strong and

  113. very courageous. There's a little bit of a difference here.

  114. Earlier it was good courage, now it's very, I underlined it.

  115. I underlined it. It takes more courage to do what?

  116. That you may observe to do according to all the law,

  117. which Moses, so now we're going backwards.

  118. Moses is dead.

  119. Joshua is the one who will lead God's people to

  120. the promised land. But God says, be strong and not

  121. just good courage, very courageous that you may observe. Observe

  122. means it's already there. The word, the laws, the instruction

  123. is already there. You just have to observe it. The

  124. rules of engagement are already set. The promises are already there.

  125. You just have to observe it. So you now need

  126. to be strong and very courageous just to observe, to

  127. do according to all the law which Moses, my servant.

  128. Commanded you. Do not turn from it.

  129. Oh, you are not to turn from it to the

  130. right hand or to the left that you may, come on, prosper.

  131. That's God's plan for us, that we may prosper. That

  132. we may wherever you go. So the next slide after

  133. this is from. There needs to be strong and of

  134. good courage just to go to.

  135. But then there needs to be strong and very.

  136. Courageous just to observe from where you have come from.

  137. Let me explain a little bit more to you. Where

  138. is your marriage going?

  139. If you have a dream and a desire for your

  140. marriage to be greater, better, sweeter than it is now,

  141. but you're going through trouble, misunderstandings, arguments now, and because

  142. of what you're going through now, you can't really see to.

  143. So you need strong and of good courage to. But

  144. then he also says, be strong and very courageous from. So,

  145. I have sat down with many married couples over the

  146. last 31 years of my married life because I've also

  147. had to practice it many times. And I know that

  148. married couples should understand this, that many times when it's

  149. dark and divorce is even a word that our mind

  150. entertains because it's so dark, it's so... I'm trying to

  151. find a good word in a bad situation. It's so disappointing.

  152. It's so discouraging. It seems hopeless. I have myself gone

  153. back to the vows I took before God.

  154. Are you with me?

  155. The vow says what? Those of you who are married,

  156. you should know it. For better, for worse. worse. Did

  157. you know what you were signing up for? Because ladies

  158. and gentlemen, nobody told you what worse was. So you

  159. told yourself, how could worse get worse? And then now

  160. you are worse. And then you are supposed to, for better,

  161. for worse. Everybody likes better. Who doesn't like better? But

  162. now it's gone bitter. Come on, for richer, for poorer. Oh,

  163. I didn't know. Poorer was so poor. Some of you

  164. are very rich with money, but very poor with your time.

  165. You used to spend a lot of time with each other,

  166. you know, when you were dating. You can't see anything

  167. else except each other.

  168. Right?

  169. Sunset, sunrise, I only got eyes for you. Now I

  170. only got eyes for my handphone. Even eating dinner opposite

  171. each other, eyes for you. So we have to remember,

  172. we have to go back. Are you with me? And remember,

  173. but I tell you what, it takes double the courage

  174. to go back. because of what's happening now. It takes

  175. double the courage. Do you know when I lead my

  176. leaders here in X Church, when we are going through

  177. a storm, I don't just ask them to look forward, no.

  178. I ask them to remember what God told us as

  179. a church.

  180. Do you understand?

  181. That's why His promises are yes and amen. His promises

  182. are for the future, yes. His promises are for the future, yes.

  183. But His promises was given when?

  184. In the past.

  185. You know, when times are dark and really terrible, it's

  186. very hard to look back at God's promises. And so

  187. God says, to look back at my word, to look

  188. back at how good I am. To look back and

  189. remember that I will never leave you nor forsake you.

  190. To look back and go, yes, God put my marriage together.

  191. To look back and go, yes, it is for better,

  192. for worse. To look back and go, yes, it is

  193. for richer, for poorer. To look back takes double the

  194. courage and therefore be strong and very courageous. You've got

  195. to believe that Moses was a man of God. You know,

  196. when you look back, you know why it takes double

  197. the courage? Because some of my leaders in Acts Church,

  198. they will go like, I have to remember what Pastor

  199. told me 26 years ago. And for them to even say,

  200. I have to remember what Pastor Kenneth told me about

  201. how and why God started Acts. They even have to

  202. do this, no? They have to like, and Pastor Kenneth

  203. heard from God. And Moses was a man of God

  204. because you will even doubt that. So it takes double

  205. the courage to go like, okay, God, I know Pastor

  206. Kenneth is just a man, but I will be courageous

  207. enough to believe that when the church started 26 years ago,

  208. he heard from you. That's why we all go back

  209. and look at the book of Acts.

  210. I tell you why we look at the book of Acts,

  211. because if the book.

  212. Of Acts was a glass, okay, let's say this whole

  213. pulpit is a glass, right?

  214. The nearer it is to the original, the less fingerprints.

  215. As it goes on, the church is now 2,000 years old,

  216. for example. Many more fingerprints from all kinds of denomination.

  217. This denomination won this. That denomination won that. That denomination

  218. believes in healing. That denomination doesn't believe in healing. That

  219. denomination believes in giving. So now you look at the church,

  220. where is God's fingerprint? So you go back to the

  221. book of Acts. Because in Acts, there was less, if

  222. not no, fingerprints of men. Because they knew nothing about

  223. the church. God had to form the church. That's why

  224. I call us X. Because I want the original fingerprints

  225. of God.

  226. Are you all still with me?

  227. And when we read the original, we can't see the

  228. fingerprints of man. And we say hallelujah because I don't

  229. need the fingerprints of man. I need to see the

  230. fingerprint of God. His DNA. Are you all still with me?

  231. Very important. But I tell you what, it takes double

  232. the courage. Double the courage when everybody is turning off

  233. their lights in their churches and X just keeps them on.

  234. And then people will call you dumb and old. And

  235. why aren't you following the trend? And the Lord said

  236. to me, don't.

  237. Turn off the lights. Are you with me?

  238. I want his fingerprint. Say, yeah, but you know, the

  239. modern generation, I'm not after the modern generation. I'm after God.

  240. I'm after God. And for the next 20 years, if

  241. I'm not with you anymore, I pray that X church

  242. will continue to go after God. Because I tell you what,

  243. the generations will change. But will the church change with

  244. the generations?

  245. It shouldn't.

  246. It should change with God. Let God win the generations

  247. as you and I are faithful to Him. Are you

  248. all still okay? So when you're looking at a glass,

  249. I know there are many fingerprints these days.

  250. How do you do it?

  251. You have to courageously go back and be courageous to say,

  252. I know I might look stupid even. I know I

  253. don't usually use that word, but I use that word

  254. strongly today because sometimes we change our ways because we

  255. are thinking about what other people.

  256. Are saying about us.

  257. Why do you still wear suits on a Sunday when

  258. other people are wearing t-shirts and jeans? Because I dress

  259. my best for the Lord. So you need to understand

  260. where I'm coming from.

  261. Are you with me? Yeah, I got to do that.

  262. I've got to do and maintain that. That actions will

  263. always give their best to the Lord. Somebody say amen.

  264. This is very, very important. But will people look down

  265. on us?

  266. Yes, of course.

  267. Therefore, you must be strong and very... I wish I'm

  268. not hindered by this seat, no? Because all I can

  269. do now is just go like that, like a horse.

  270. Come on, very courageous. Amen.

  271. And you got to teach our young people to.

  272. Do that because our young people are going to come

  273. under greater pressures. Yes. Our young people are going to

  274. come under greater pressures to conform. But the Bible says,

  275. do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed

  276. by the renewing of your mind.

  277. It takes courage, guys.

  278. To see your son stray away and not go to

  279. church anymore. And you as a mother say, but God,

  280. you told me when this son was born that he

  281. will one day preach for you, you understand?

  282. And for a mother to hold.

  283. On to that word, even though your son is going

  284. so far away from the Lord, you've got to be

  285. very strong and very courageous. Do you understand what I'm

  286. trying to say? You've just got a God. I know

  287. He looks like the devil. But I know your promises

  288. for my family. And your word to me when my

  289. children were born was, as for me and my house,

  290. we will serve the Lord.

  291. And I will be strong.

  292. And I will be very courageous to hold on even

  293. though other people might be laughing at me.

  294. And saying, where? You say where? Where? Where?

  295. You know?

  296. Your son looks like he's totally opposite from a Christian.

  297. Never mind. Don't worry about that.

  298. Be strong and... very courageous. Hold on to the Word

  299. of God that never changes.

  300. Amen. Praise the Lord. Last one. Third one.

  301. Actually, it's not last one but it's the third one.

  302. God said it three times. That's why I say last.

  303. Three times He said it and let's look at the

  304. Word of God again. Joshua 1.9 Joshua 1.9 says, have

  305. I not commanded you, be strong and of good courage.

  306. Third time, third time. You know when the Lord says

  307. something one time, you must listen. He says something two times,

  308. you must, must listen. He says something three times, you must, must, must.

  309. And now you.

  310. Realize, be strong and of good courage is no longer

  311. an opinion, it's a command.

  312. Because He says, have I not commanded you? It's a command.

  313. Do not steal is a command. Do not murder is

  314. a command. That's why you don't steal. That's why you

  315. don't murder. And yet, be strong and of good courage

  316. is a command. And yet, many of us fail to

  317. obey this command. But the Lord is commanding us this

  318. morning to be strong and of good courage.

  319. Somebody say amen. He says, do not be afraid. That

  320. is really.

  321. The reason why many of us don't or can't get

  322. ourselves to be strong and of good courage, especially in

  323. times where it's really dark and depressing. But I love

  324. this scripture because God says, for the Lord your God

  325. is with you wherever you go. And so this is

  326. how I want to bring it across to you. The

  327. word here says, God.

  328. Is with you.

  329. And so the only way we are going to be

  330. able to be strong and of good courage is that

  331. we know that God is with us. It's not by

  332. mind or by power, but by my spirit. No, because

  333. I can leave you now and say, let's pray and

  334. go like, I think you got it.

  335. I think you got it.

  336. Right? And then everybody goes out and go like, okay,

  337. I'm going to try. Pastor said, you know, be strong

  338. and of good courage. Be very courageous. I'm going to try.

  339. You try on your own strength. And you try without

  340. focusing on the Lord.

  341. You're going to fail.

  342. You're going to fail. Because the darkness is too overwhelming.

  343. The hopelessness, even here in Malaysia, is too overwhelming, you

  344. might think. Your situation with your marriage, with your children,

  345. is just, oh, I don't think, it's been 10 years, Pastor.

  346. It's been 15 years, Pastor. It won't change, Pastor.

  347. And you get an encouragement from the Lord this morning

  348. that tells you, no, no, but be strong and of

  349. good courage. Because God is a faithful God and His

  350. promises will come. And His word will come to pass.

  351. And He's a good God. And He came to give

  352. us life and life more abundantly. All these are promises.

  353. All these are real. You will make your way prosperous.

  354. I'm not prosperous yet, Lord, but I know in you

  355. I will be.

  356. Come on. So be strong.

  357. And then you go and you say, oh, pastor said

  358. be strong and very courageous. And then you go on

  359. your own strength. You forget the Lord. You're not focused

  360. on Him. You're focused on some motivational talk to stir

  361. you up.

  362. And that's the problem with motivational.

  363. Talk because one is very good and everybody go, yay,

  364. standing on their seat and clapping, right? They go with

  365. their own strength. Motivation without the motivator will end up

  366. not only a failure but but it will end up empty.

  367. Because even if you succeed, you give glory to yourself.

  368. You with me? And when you start giving glory to

  369. yourself and praise to yourself, it's empty.

  370. Right? We were all made to worship the Lord and

  371. give Him the praise. Amen. And give Him pleasure. And

  372. when you do that, your heart will be so fulfilled.

  373. Because it's not about you. When you start living just

  374. for yourself, it's so empty, it's so shallow. But when

  375. you live for the God who created you, it's going

  376. to be fulfilling.

  377. Somebody say amen.

  378. So don't go away thinking that I'm telling you be

  379. strong and of good courage on your own. This is

  380. not a motivational talk. This is the word of the

  381. living God. And so you go away knowing that the

  382. third thing He said was, I will be with you.

  383. As you're going through this darkness, He will be your light.

  384. As you're going through this problem, He will be your answer.

  385. As you're going through this very tearful time, the Bible says,

  386. He will wipe away every tear. As you're going through anxiety,

  387. He is your peace. The peace that surpasses all understanding

  388. will guard your heart and mind through Christ Jesus.

  389. Philippians 4, verse 6 and 7.

    Philippians 4:6

  390. Amen.

  391. So the next slide says, with.

  392. With.

  393. Amen. God is with us. He will never leave us

  394. nor forsake us.

  395. I love the whole, you know, writings that I'm sure

  396. some of you have read before about the footprints in

  397. the sand. Remember?

  398. How come God, there's only one footprint? Where were you?

  399. He says, that was my footprint. I carried you.

  400. And I want you to understand that God is with us.

  401. And when you go out of this room, this church today,

  402. I want you to know, God, in my darkest hour

  403. when everybody else wanted to leave me, you are still there.

  404. You are still here. You are still with me. Everybody okay?

  405. All right. Praise the Lord.

  406. Now, the next slide is quite unique. The next slide

  407. is also found in Joshua 1. But now the people

  408. of God is repeating the same thing. And I love

  409. it because it looks to me that when God moves

  410. and when you obey, even the people will align. The

  411. people will work and support and things will just come together. See,

  412. there's nowhere in Joshua 1 that I read that Joshua

  413. went to the people and told them what God told him.

  414. He just got up and said, okay, Come on, get ready.

  415. In three days, you're going to cross into the promised land.

  416. Right?

  417. So, without the people hearing what God told Joshua, I'm assuming,

  418. because the Bible is silent on that, I am now

  419. strongly assuming that the people are being aligned with what

  420. they didn't.

  421. Even know happened.

  422. Because God, when you obey His Word, will begin to

  423. cause people's hearts to come together. Suddenly your heart, the

  424. heart of your son who was rebellious comes together. Suddenly

  425. the heart of your husband who said he wanted to

  426. end the marriage, you know, suddenly aligns. Suddenly your wife aligns.

  427. Suddenly your staff aligns. Suddenly, you know, the government aligns. Suddenly,

  428. you know, the bank manager who's looking at your loan aligns.

  429. You know, because when you trust the Lord and obey Him,

  430. God causes people to... And you know what the people said?

  431. all that you command us, we will do. And wherever

  432. you send us, we will go. The first part just

  433. says to. Wherever you send us to, we are ready

  434. to go with you. And then the next one says,

  435. and wherever you send us, we will go. Just as

  436. we heeded Moses, that's from. So they are confirming now

  437. to Joshua, we know the to, we know the from,

  438. and we also know the with. So we will heed you,

  439. only the Lord your God be with you. Do you

  440. understand what just happened? A confirmation from the people themselves saying,

  441. we know the to, we got to go. We know

  442. the from, we got to observe all that Moses has

  443. taught us and we know the with. Only if God

  444. is with us, can we do this. And then they

  445. repeat What God said three times, only be strong and

  446. of good courage. Can I hear a good amen? I

  447. want to prophesy over you that things will align in

  448. your life. Your health will align in Jesus' name. Your

  449. marriage will align according to the Word of God. Your

  450. spouse will align according to the will of God. Your

  451. children will align. Your finances will align. Your businesses will align.

  452. Your work will align. Even your boss and your supervisors

  453. and your staff and your colleagues will align to the

  454. Word in the mighty name of Jesus. Every application that

  455. has gone forth will align to the will of God

  456. if you would trust Him today and be strong and

  457. of good courage.

  458. Everybody okay? Praise the Lord. Now, as I draw to

  459. the last lap, I'm looking at my watch. Daniel, when

  460. do I end?

  461. Do you know?

  462. Okay, okay, okay. Thank you very much. I just want

  463. to check with you. Okay, yeah? Maybe the next 10-15 minutes,

  464. we'll close. Are you ready?

  465. I'm now going to explain to you, since being strong

  466. and very courageous is important, I want to explain to

  467. you what it means.

  468. So the next slide says, strong.

  469. In the Hebrew, which the Old Testament is written in,

  470. strong is the word fasten. Somebody say fasten. Yeah, it's

  471. not fasten, like casten. It's fasten. The T is silent. Sorry,

  472. English class.

  473. I also was taught that many years ago. Fasten.

  474. So the pilot will say, passengers, please fasten your seatbelt.

  475. Why do you fasten your seatbelt?

  476. So that you don't have to encounter what Singapore Airlines

  477. at one time encountered. Remember? It's one of the best

  478. airlines in the world. But one time, the turbulence was

  479. so bad, they put it onto Instagram and Facebook.

  480. People hit their head against the top. You know, drinks were.

  481. Because the turbulence was so bad and shook the plane,

  482. that all those who did not have a seatbelt on

  483. or fastened were flying everywhere. Not just the plane was flying,

  484. people were flying in the plane. You remember that story? Okay.

  485. So why do you fasten?

  486. You fasten and not just fasten tightly.

  487. Remember? The stewards will say, fasten tightly, pull.

  488. Right?

  489. Why?

  490. So that when there's turbulence in your life, shaking, sudden

  491. movements that you didn't expect, you don't go, you don't

  492. get flung out, you don't shake, You don't worry.

  493. You fasten.

  494. Amen.

  495. You fasten.

  496. So when the Lord says in Hebrew, be strong, He

  497. says fasten.

  498. But I have.

  499. Another illustration for you, not just a seatbelt. I want

  500. to talk to you about your life being a nail.

  501. Somebody say nail. In French, it's paku. Sorry, in Bahasa Malaysia,

  502. it's paku. Sorry, just joke a little bit there.

  503. Paku, okay? It's a nail.

  504. How much is one nail? Very cheap only because you

  505. never buy one nail. How many of you have gone

  506. to a hardware shop? Can you give me one nail?

  507. The fellow said, maybe one screw is loose in your head.

  508. So a packet of nails is cheap. One ringgit, two ringgit,

  509. depending on the quality of the nail. So if you

  510. divide it, one nail is probably only two cents, three cents,

  511. five cents. Yes? All of our lives in this room,

  512. you are nails in God's hand. And actually, without God,

  513. we are not really of very much value. We can't

  514. even be clear and confident whether we will live tomorrow.

  515. Life is really so fragile, you know. So fragile. We

  516. don't even know where we'll be next week. Yeah, our

  517. calendar says where we'll be next week. But it's God

  518. who decides.

  519. Yeah? How many of.

  520. Your friends have just fallen? You know, playing... badminton, playing squash,

  521. you know, riding a bicycle, just, you know, it's gone.

  522. They're gone just, you know, in a blink of an eye.

  523. So our lives are in God's hands.

  524. Somebody say amen.

  525. Our five-cent nail is in the hand of God. So

  526. what happens is that God desires to fasten you as

  527. a nail on the wall. That's when the word fasten

  528. is used again. You take a nail, you use a hammer.

  529. How many of you have used your shoe before? A

  530. shoe doesn't work quite well. How many of you have used,

  531. you know, other things, you know, a pen, a pot,

  532. you know?

  533. No, a hammer works best. Okay? Don't use your spouse's head. Okay?

  534. A hammer is the best.

  535. How many of you know that the Word of God

  536. calls the Word of God, the Word of God calls

  537. the Word of God a hammer? If you want to

  538. Google it, it just says, is the Word of God

  539. called a hammer in the Word of God? They will

  540. bring you to the verse. The Word of God is

  541. like a hammer breaking the fallow ground.

  542. That's what the verse says.

  543. So the Word of God will come into our lives

  544. and it will hammer this nail and nothing that is

  545. hammered is ever pleasant. Nothing.

  546. Nothing.

  547. You hammer it into the wall, you go bam, bam, bam.

  548. And you're saying, stop, stop, stop. God is too hard. God,

  549. this temptation, this testing is too much for me. And

  550. yet God knows that if He doesn't nail the nail

  551. deep enough, how many of you in this room have

  552. actually nailed a nail onto a wall?

  553. Let me see your hand.

  554. Okay. Okay, a few of you never. But maybe you

  555. go home and try. Try on something that won't damage anything.

  556. But I think you have... Please do it under supervision.

  557. If you are too young. If you are under 35,

  558. do it under supervision. Because you might nail your thumb

  559. or your finger. Do you understand this? How many of

  560. you have ever nailed your thumb or your finger before?

  561. Let me see your hands.

  562. Alright, lesser people. Because these guys are very good. They're

  563. just so good. They've never nailed their hands before. So,

  564. I think God is going to help you understand what

  565. it is in the days to come if you haven't

  566. experienced yet. So, but imagine with me. If you've never

  567. done it before, imagine with me. A nail.

  568. Turn to your neighbor and say, a nail. Five cents.

  569. And a hammer, right? So then you go, bam, bam, bam,

  570. and you stop.

  571. You stop. Do you stop?

  572. You stop to check, to see whether bam, bam, bam

  573. is enough. What do you do? You bite it. No,

  574. you don't bite it. You, come on, you shake. There

  575. are some clever ones here. So you shake it. You

  576. shake it, right? And if it shakes, you say, I'm done, right?

  577. You say, I'm done. If it shakes, you say, great job, right?

  578. Come on, if it shakes, you say, hallelujah, mission accomplished.

  579. If it shakes, you hang your 30,000 ringgit painting on, hello,

  580. you hang your most beautiful family photo that you took Right?

  581. After Mahathir and Siti Hasmah took theirs, you took yours,

  582. you know, and you know, you can even say, yeah,

  583. you know, I took photo just right after the former

  584. prime minister. And so you're going to put this painting

  585. of value on a shaky nail.

  586. Somebody say amen. No amen?

  587. What?

  588. How many of you know there are many shaky Christians?

  589. Because they don't allow God to work in their lives.

  590. Bam, bam, bam.

  591. Oh, enough lah, God. You're so unkind to me.

  592. You're so cruel.

  593. You say you're good.

  594. Where?

  595. And he knows, right? So he goes, bam, one more.

  596. I'll leave church.

  597. I'll leave God.

  598. This message is so boring, I'm going to look at

  599. my phone.

  600. Play some games.

  601. You know, I designed this church like this so that

  602. I can see you playing your phone when I'm preaching.

  603. I can see you very well and you can see

  604. me very well. Bam!

  605. And then after five bams, what do you do again? Sama. Same. Same.

  606. Right?

  607. And now you are satisfied because the nail is fastened.

  608. It's deep. God wants to take all of us deeper. Deeper.

  609. If there's one difference between 10 years ago and now,

  610. it's just this. He's going to take you deeper. Why

  611. remain a Christian same as last year? He wants to

  612. take you deeper. I was praying with Rochelle just now,

  613. you know, because one broken left leg to another broken

  614. left leg, right? I said, Lord, as Rochelle goes through

  615. these few weeks and maybe even months of recovery, take

  616. her deeper.

  617. I think there's only one reason for sickness and being

  618. in hospital. It's so that.

  619. You can rest and go deeper. God doesn't want us sick.

  620. So if He allows us to be sick, there's only

  621. going to be one reason. Because otherwise our lives are

  622. too busy. And the world is too noisy. But why

  623. does He want to take us deeper? So that He

  624. can fasten us.

  625. Are you still with me?

  626. Firm and deep. Deep calls unto deep. God is deep.

  627. And you will never be able to really, really connect

  628. with God until you are also deep. There are many

  629. shallow Christians who can't really get to know God because

  630. God is not shallow.

  631. Are you with me?

  632. If you want to speak to shallow people, then be

  633. shallow and talk to shallow people. And all the shallow

  634. people will have good time in the coffee shop. Talking shallowness.

  635. But if you want to talk to God, God wants

  636. to take you to a place where your handphone works

  637. with Him. And when you dial His number, you got

  638. to be from a deep place. Because shallow people don't

  639. get far with God. So God doesn't allow us to

  640. be shallow. He takes us deeper. But deep usually requires

  641. some pain. And all of us who are older here

  642. knows that it is through the pain and through the

  643. struggle and through the challenges that we grew. How many

  644. of you grew only in good times? No, we grew

  645. the best in hard times. Everybody okay? I hope I'm

  646. making sense. Let's look at the next slide. You are

  647. the nail, God uses the hammer. Some of us are saying,

  648. stop God. Some of us are saying, I don't understand God.

  649. Why am I going through this God? Some of my

  650. best preaching has come from my brokenness. Some of the

  651. best counselling, when you counsel somebody who's down, doesn't come

  652. from Malay will say kepandayan, kebijaksanaan. Doesn't come from your

  653. own wisdom, no? It comes from the fact that you

  654. have gone through it. Why do God allow us to

  655. go through stuff? So that one day we can be

  656. a comfort to others who are going through it. And

  657. when you speak, you speak with authority. I know what

  658. you're going through, sister. I know what you're going through.

  659. I went through the same for five years. Huh? Really?

  660. You went through? But you are a pastor, you should...

  661. You mean like, some people think like pastor Superman, no? No,

  662. we are human. And so some of our best counselling

  663. comes from a broken place.

  664. And God uses brokenness to heal other brokenness. Because out

  665. of our brokenness comes, you know, something that is so deep,

  666. something that's so powerful.

  667. Amen.

  668. So what is the purpose? Let's look at the next

  669. slide as we draw to the last lap. Purpose of

  670. a firmly fastened nail. What is it for?

  671. It's just for this. For the glory of God.

  672. You and I will never hang an expensive painting on

  673. a shaky nail. Many Christians want to be used by

  674. God but their lives are still very shaky. They're still

  675. talking like amateur Christian. Amateur Christian meaning like a baby Christian.

  676. They don't have any control over their mouths. They don't

  677. have any control over, you know, their comments. 10 years already,

  678. 15 years already, still cannot control the mouth, still cannot.

  679. Control the temper.

  680. He is a man, but he still, functions like a boy.

  681. You're not mature. So God will not use you the

  682. way you want to be used because you are shaky.

  683. So when he puts Mona Lisa on you, How many

  684. of you think Mona Lisa is 40 million euros, but

  685. the nail is 20 million euros? No, the nail that

  686. is hanging Mona Lisa is also cheap. The nail does

  687. not go in the same price with the painting. But

  688. God is not looking at the quality of the nail,

  689. He's looking at how fastened it is. And if it's

  690. strong enough, He will hang a Mona Lisa. He will

  691. hang a Van Gogh. And when he hangs that, and

  692. I walk into your house, Erin, and I see the

  693. Mona Lisa.

  694. Erin, your mom.

  695. I don't know what, what's the most expensive painting in your,

  696. don't have? So let me just say, the most valuable

  697. picture is the one with you and your children.

  698. Let's just say, oh, Russia, you like to hear that?

  699. Of course, she said that.

  700. And you're hanging it on a very cheap nail. But

  701. when I come to your house, my sister, or to

  702. any house here who's hanging a very expensive painting, do

  703. you know I no longer see the nail? I don't

  704. know why we fight in life to get our own glory.

  705. Because when God hangs His glory on you, you can't

  706. see the nail anymore. How many of you have seen

  707. a beautiful painting and asked, what's behind the painting?

  708. I'm curious. What nail did you use?

  709. Do you know when at the end of the day,

  710. I will not get any glory and I don't want

  711. any glory because I live to give God the glory.

  712. All I need to be is a fastened, firmly fastened,

  713. deep nail. No matter what my price is, five cents,

  714. ten cents, so be it.

  715. But I will never be able.

  716. To compare with the glory that God wants to hang

  717. on my life. And when people come into your life

  718. and see the testimony, they only see God. Amen. And

  719. a shaky nail remains a shaky nail. Maybe at best,

  720. you hang a feather. Some of you have been following

  721. Christ so long, but you're still carrying feathers. God wants

  722. to trust us with more.

  723. Amen.

  724. Now, let's move on.

  725. Why is courage important? So be strong means be a

  726. fastened nail. Yes, go through the storm. Go through the pain.

  727. God is in control. He's with you. He loves you.

  728. So He did not allow you to go through pain

  729. for no reason. He wants to use you. And so

  730. go deeper is my encouragement to you.

  731. Say, God, have your way. Never mind. It's okay. You're

  732. with me.

  733. Yes, it's pain. But I'm going to come out of

  734. this stronger.

  735. Somebody say amen. But now that you're strong, you need

  736. to be courageous.

  737. Because sometimes you can know all of the Bible. Some

  738. people think, oh, to be strong Christian means to know

  739. every part of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.

  740. Sometimes you can know and still not do.

  741. God is not just after the hearers of the word,

  742. but the doers of the word. Amen. Hey, don't get

  743. quiet on me. Ex-church, you're not quiet one. Let me

  744. hear a good amen. Praise God you're still alive. But

  745. maybe you're thinking about stuff that I'm saying, so okay.

  746. And when you're thinking, you're quiet.

  747. That's okay.

  748. Fine. Please don't know all of the Bible and not

  749. live it. So don't just be strong. How many of

  750. you have ever seen a fasten nail just there on

  751. the wall? Oh, pastor, I'm a very strong Christian. Yeah,

  752. you're a strong Christian like a nail on the wall.

  753. How many of you actually come into people's house and

  754. go like, wow, look at the 17 nails.

  755. You have on the wall. Wow. Do you know that's

  756. the ugliest thing ever? And sometimes church can be so ugly.

  757. So ugly because you got 17 Christians, 70, 700, 7,000, 70,000

  758. just on, do you know if you put 70,000 nails

  759. on the wall, my word, it might be a hard

  760. work lah. They might be like, wow, look, 7,000, 17,000 nails. Wow,

  761. I can see that you make all the nails into

  762. a shape of the map. Why do we have so

  763. many Christians on the wall and without God hanging anything

  764. on them? The ugliest thing is to go to a

  765. house and see nails. And then the owner says, yeah,

  766. once upon a time, I hung things there, but now

  767. I don't know what to hang it is. So I

  768. left the nails there. Maybe one day I'll use it.

  769. Maybe one day I'll use it.

  770. Because it's worse. If I take the nail out, there'll

  771. be a hole. And so that'd be ugly, right, pastor?

  772. I said, at least the hole you can patch up.

  773. So what are you to do with the strong is

  774. to be courageous.

  775. Next slide says this. Faith without works is dead.

  776. So that means you can have faith, but if you

  777. don't have works, you and I are dead. I can

  778. say all I want about starting ex-cultic community, but if

  779. I didn't start.

  780. It, will we be here? No, you'll be somewhere else

  781. for sure.

  782. All of you will be in good churches for sure,

  783. but you won't be here because this won't be started.

  784. So there are still a lot of Christians talking about things,

  785. but never starting.

  786. I want to tell you right now, you won't get

  787. to the promised land.

  788. So you must have faith, but you must also have works.

  789. Everybody okay? It takes courage. My wife says this many

  790. times when she's doing a wedding.

  791. She says to the young couple, so and so, Daniel

  792. and Rochelle, you look stunning today. Especially you, Rochelle, you

  793. look stunning. And Daniel, you look stunned. But welcome to

  794. your wedding, such a beautiful wedding. And then she says,

  795. And well done. Because wedding is for the courageous. Marriage

  796. is for the courageous. It takes guts to stay with

  797. somebody that you don't even know very much. Don't know

  798. whether she snores. Don't know whether he farts. Sorry to

  799. use that bad word. And some of you, you're like,

  800. how can pastor use that word? It should be flatulence.

  801. And you say, I'm going to stay and live with

  802. this lady for the rest of my life. Courage to stay.

  803. Do you know it takes no courage to leave? It

  804. takes courage to stay. Anybody can leave. Anybody can leave.

  805. It takes courage.

  806. I'm looking at May and she's seated here. you know,

  807. and she raised up four children. It takes courage to

  808. be a mum. Especially if the mum feels like she's

  809. having to do most of it herself. So there are

  810. a lot of courageous people here. And you're here not

  811. just because you were strong, you're here because you were courageous.

  812. So as I close, the Lord says, be strong and

  813. very courageous. Then you will go to as you remember

  814. from where you came from. And remember that God is

  815. with you. Now, as I close, I want to explain something.

  816. The next slide says, good equals, oh sorry, the next

  817. slide actually says, courage is action against fear.

  818. Correct.

  819. So there are many reasons why you don't move forward,

  820. is because you are afraid. Natural, you are afraid. And

  821. everybody is afraid of something, that's why they don't move.

  822. That's why they don't talk. That's why they don't say

  823. what they need to say. Go where they need to

  824. go and do what they need to do. Okay, we

  825. all understand this. So courage is really action against that fear.

  826. You have to overcome. But I want to move on.

  827. Because the Bible says, be strong and of good courage.

  828. And Daniel, I'm going to close in the next few minutes.

  829. Good courage. So do you know what good means? Good

  830. in the Bible actually speaks not about a situation, not

  831. about a condition, not about a circumstance.

  832. It speaks about an attitude, a nature, a quality.

  833. A character, independent of external conditions and circumstances. See, in

  834. our world, if we don't learn this from the Bible,

  835. we think that it's a good day because everything is

  836. going your way.

  837. So it's good and everybody's happy.

  838. But God is saying good means that even when bad

  839. things happen, you can still be in a good place.

  840. You understand? How many of you know that love is

  841. not a feeling, it's a commitment? That's what I mean.

  842. A lot of people who say love is a feeling,

  843. then you only go with feelings. And when your feeling

  844. is up, you are up, you are full of love.

  845. When your feeling is down, you know love. And some

  846. people say, oh, I want a divorce because there's no

  847. more love. I don't feel love anymore. No. it's never

  848. been feeling. It's always been commitment. Somebody say amen. How

  849. many of you know that happiness is not just a feeling?

  850. But it's a choice.

  851. When you wake up in the morning, even though your

  852. body might be in pain and you can't even get

  853. up properly and you're walking and your knees are creaking,

  854. You can still say, bless the Lord, oh my soul,

  855. and all that is within me, bless His holy name.

  856. And you can choose to be happy. Somebody say amen.

  857. But if you just go by feelings, I tell you, haze,

  858. no haze, not happy.

  859. Right?

  860. Everything around you is totally, you know, going to determine

  861. how your day is going to be. Don't allow that

  862. to happen. Choose you this day. So good courage means

  863. you are to be courageous even when the circumstances are

  864. against you. Just like this last verse and when I

  865. say it, I'm going to pray. How many of you

  866. know John 16, 33? This is my last verse for

  867. the day. At least for this service. These things, Jesus said,

  868. I have spoken to you that in me you may

  869. have peace.

  870. Somebody say amen.

  871. Amen.

  872. In the world, you will have tribulation.

  873. Wow, prophesy Eddie. But be of what cheer? Did you

  874. ever ask yourself what good cheer means? Because if Jesus

  875. just says, be of cheer, He doesn't even have to

  876. speak to a Christian. Because even non-Christians know when to

  877. be cheerful.

  878. Right?

  879. Right?

  880. Good money, bank account, good. Office, good. Colleagues, good.

  881. Boss, good.

  882. Everything, good. Wife, good.

  883. Children, good.

  884. Cheer. Right?

  885. And you know, you've got your golf membership, you've got everything, good.

  886. So even those who don't know Jesus know how to

  887. be cheerful, yes or not? But most of them are

  888. cheerful only when it's reasonable to be cheerful. But God

  889. is saying, and I close with this, when you are

  890. of good cheer, and I just gave you the definition

  891. of good, it means, let's go back to the definition again, XTV.

  892. It means it's your attitude.

  893. Good cheer means even if things are bad around me,

  894. I am of good cheer. Meaning to say that my

  895. attitude has chosen to be cheerful. In my nature, I

  896. have chosen to be cheerful. In the quality of my life,

  897. it's a quality. It's a character that doesn't change with time.

  898. It's independent of external conditions and circumstances. So ladies and gentlemen,

  899. as I get ready to pray for you, Jesus says,

  900. be of good cheer, meaning it is cheer that is

  901. not dependent on your surroundings. And when He says, be

  902. of good courage, it means be courageous, even though there

  903. is no reason, physically speaking, No obvious reason for you

  904. to step out in faith.

  905. Everything seems to be against you.

  906. Voices even of good friends say, no lah, don't, don't

  907. do it. Someone might say, easier lah to divorce, right?

  908. Easier lah to give up. Easier to leave, right? It

  909. is those times that you are to have good courage.

  910. Courage that does not depend on the external forces. Courage

  911. that does not depend on the good news from the

  912. latest news paper or the latest news from CNN.

  913. Yeah, with the war.

  914. With the war that's happening, the oil prices has shot up.

  915. Everybody feels it. But when you are of good courage,

  916. you don't just look at the up and down of

  917. stock market. You don't just look up and down of currency.

  918. You don't just look at the up and down of

  919. oil prices. You continue to live the way God wants

  920. you to live. You continue to follow God's Word. no

  921. matter how things around you change. You go to by

  922. looking from. And you hold on to the promises of

  923. God and you keep walking and you keep believing and

  924. you keep pressing on.

  925. We hope you've been blessed by this message. For more
