  1. Hebrews chapter two again.

  2. Oh.

  3. I started a message last week and we've named it jockeying for position.

  4. Now that's tongue in cheek.

  5. Forgive me, God, if that's disrespectful to your word, but it's not so much that uh humans, angels, and Jesus are jockeying for position.

  6. This is about when, where, and what age God is moving the chess pieces of the world into the positions that he wants.

  7. I guess you could say that.

  8. And so we have talked so far.

  9. Well, first of all, I tell you what, let's look at Hebrews chapter two and verse five.

  10. Would you stand together with me as we reverence God's word?

  11. For he has not put the world to come of which we speak in subjection to angels.

  12. But one testified in a certain place saying, What is man?

  13. This is Psalm eight, what is man that you are mindful of him, or the Son of Man that you take care of him, you have made him a little lower than the angels, you have crowned him with glory and honor.

  14. You set him over the works of your hands, and you have put all things in subjection under his feet.

  15. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him, but now we do not yet see all things put under him.

  16. Very confusing verse.

  17. But what it means is he put mankind in charge of this world, this created world, and yet still, because of man's sin, not everything is put under him.

  18. Verse nine, but we see Jesus.

  19. I ought to make a presby Lutheran shout now, but we see Jesus.

  20. We who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering death crowned with glory and honor, that he by the grace of God might taste death for every one.

  21. God, please add the blessing to your word, the preaching of your word.

  22. God help me to stay faithful to the truth in Jesus' name.

  23. Amen.

  24. You may be seated.

  25. Now you might notice that it says Hebrews 2, 5 through 18.

  26. I'm just covering verses 5 through 9.

  27. Next week, Brother Greg Payne is going to be preaching, and I want to tell you something.

  28. Y'all are in for it because he's full of it.

  29. He is ready to preach.

  30. And uh he has been, he has really been supportive and very excited with me about this study of Hebrews.

  31. And uh Christy and Alice and I will not be here.

  32. Uh my mother-in-law is getting baptized.

  33. And I think all mother-in-laws ought to get baptized.

  34. Amen.

  35. And so y'all pray for us, but I want you to be here, bring your friends, bring the lost, because I want to tell you, Brother Greg is going to bring Jesus.

  36. Because that's what these verses are all about.

  37. Look at verse 10.

  38. For it was fitting for him, Jesus, for whom all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through suffering.

  39. For both he who sacrifices and those who are being sacrificed are all of one, for which reason he is not ashamed to call them brethren.

  40. And I tell you, I would love to preach that.

  41. But I'm going to let Brother Greg, he'll do a better job.

  42. And also talks about propitiation in there somewhere, doesn't it, Brother Greg?

  43. Uses the word propitiation.

  44. Oh, verse uh 17.

  45. Uh tremendous word they've taken out of a lot of modern translations.

  46. Shame on them, but I'm sure he will talk about the great propitiation that Jesus is for us.

  47. Amen.

  48. So y'all be here next Sunday and pray for him.

  49. Pray for us.

  50. It's gonna be good.

  51. But for today, we're gonna look at verses five through nine.

  52. Actually, we're gonna be looking at verse nine because we've already covered the other ones.

  53. And let me tell you something.

  54. I have only preached one point of my message.

  55. And I went over a little bit last week, nearly.

  56. Well, I was a little early, but I'm telling you, I got a lot of notes.

  57. So y'all are gonna have to listen quick.

  58. Okay.

  59. So we are talking about this.

  60. Uh, and uh we see him talk about man, and we see him talk about angels.

  61. He is he's had a little pause in verses one through four.

  62. It's a parentheses, and now he's back to the subject of that Jesus is better than angels.

  63. Basically, is what he's talking about.

  64. Better than angels and better than humankind, too.

  65. But anyway, last week we talked about the particulars because there are some things you need to understand about these verses before you we get into them.

  66. Okay?

  67. It says the world.

  68. What world?

  69. What does that mean?

  70. Well, the word there means world means, because world can mean, you know, everybody, all people, and we'll get into that later.

  71. It can also mean all kinds of people, like Gentiles and Jews and Greeks and things like that.

  72. But this word is very specific.

  73. It talks about, it's talking about the inhabitable world, it's talking about the earth, terra firma, nearly, and the dwelling of human beings and angels and whatever on earth.

  74. And then it says the world to come.

  75. Well, that confuses.

  76. What does he mean?

  77. The world to come.

  78. Well, there's several worlds to come.

  79. When he wrote this, the New Testament world still hadn't really started real good.

  80. So he could have been talking about the church age, which is what we're living in, which I believe we're fixing to end myself, and we're going to enter into the second age or the second world, which is the millennial reign of Christ, which uh chapter 19 of Revelations tells us lasts for a thousand years.

  81. Six times it uses the word or the phrase one thousand years.

  82. Then the next chapter is the second coming of Christ, and then the next chapter in Revelation talks about the new heavens and the new earth.

  83. And there's a lot of guys who believe different things about eschatology, and they're all about that last chapter, oh, the new earth, heaven, the new earth, and their eternal state, but they don't think verse chapter 19 is literal, that there's not a literal millennial reign.

  84. Well, you can't have it both ways.

  85. If the millennial reign's not literal, neither is the new heaven and the new earth.

  86. I want to tell you something.

  87. I'm just going to take it literal until I'm find something different.

  88. And uh, I believe that you have the millennial reign.

  89. Then you also have the eternal age, the world to come, which will be a new heaven and a new earth.

  90. I believe he's talking about the millennial reign of Christ in these verses, and we'll get into that today.

  91. And then he says, of which we speak, of which we speak.

  92. I don't have time to get into that.

  93. In subjection to angels.

  94. And then the phrase, but one testifies in a certain place, saying, and he's and we preach through a little bit of Psalm chapter 8, because that's what he's quoting here.

    Psalms 8 chapter mention

  95. That brings us to the second point, with which we'll start today, and that is the privilege.

  96. We see the panorama.

  97. Now we see the privilege.

  98. Look at verse 6, if you would.

  99. About halfway down, it says, What is man that you're mindful of him, and the Son of Man that you care of him?

  100. Now the King James Version, at least in the Old Testament, says that you visitest, that you visit him.

  101. That you come to him.

  102. It's the same thing, that you care for him.

  103. What is man?

  104. Now you, if you don't understand this, if this doesn't shake your soul, I'm telling you, you didn't prepare your heart when you came here today.

  105. If you're filled with the Spirit, this shakes your soul because you understand that God is infinitely holy.

  106. And you are infinitely unholy.

  107. So what is man that he would be mindful of you?

  108. What is man that he would not discard you?

  109. What is man that he would not judge you?

  110. What is man that he would not separate you from himself forever?

  111. Why in the world does God consider man the crown of his creation?

  112. Why does God set his love upon people who rebel against him?

  113. The privilege.

  114. Absolutely.

  115. Why does God care for us?

  116. Number one, that's the first phrase.

  117. Why does God care?

  118. Or you could put, why is God mindful of us?

  119. That's what I'm talking about.

  120. That phrase there in Psalm 8 and in verse 6 of Hebrews 2.

  121. What is man that you're mindful of him?

  122. Jeremiah 29, 11 says, For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, says the Lord.

  123. Thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

  124. What a thing to say about a sinful creature who does nothing but rebel.

  125. Although this verse is speaking of Israel in captivity, this verse still applies to us, especially when you think of Romans 28.

  126. What does that say?

  127. All things work together for good to those that love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

  128. My God loves you so much, not only does he give you good things, and you have good in you, he puts it in you, it had to be put in you, God had to put it in you, but even the bad things in you, the sinful things, the mistakes, the failures, the trippings, and the fallings that are in you, even those turn out for your good.

  129. God's not going to let anything turn out for your punishment.

  130. You will never be judged for sin.

  131. You will never experience the wrath of God for sin.

  132. Why?

  133. Because Jesus paid it all.

  134. He took all the wrath of God for you.

  135. Psalm 40 verse 17.

    Psalms 40:17

  136. But I, it's one of my favorite verses, but I am poor and needy, but the Lord He thinketh on me.

  137. Psalm 40, verse 17, that's Psalm 40 verse.

    Psalms 40:17

  138. Matthew 6, 26.

  139. Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap, nor gather into barns, yet your heavenly father feeds them.

  140. Are you not more valuable than they?

  141. Wow.

  142. Why?

  143. Why is God mindful?

  144. Why does God come to us?

  145. Why does God work all things for our good?

  146. Why does God think on us?

  147. And my with all my theology that I have learned through the years of all of the systematic theology that I have studied, all of the doctrines I've teaching, here's the answer.

  148. I don't know.

  149. And neither do you.

  150. And you can give all your little neat little answers.

  151. Well, God has set his love upon us.

  152. He chose to love.

  153. We all know that.

  154. Why?

  155. I don't know there's an answer to it other than God is so loving, so kind.

  156. Why don't the birds?

  157. What bird ever refused to fly when God called?

  158. Whatever dog refused to bark when God kneeled, whatever whatever cat refused to meow when God asked him to, whatever lion refused to do what lions do when God commanded.

  159. None of them.

  160. But what man has ever rebelled against the commands of God?

  161. Every one of them.

  162. And those are the ones he sets his love upon.

  163. Well, why is man why is he mindful?

  164. Why does God care for us?

  165. Number two, why does God cover us?

  166. Look at verse 7.

  167. You have made him a little lower than the angels, you have crowned him with glory and honor, and you set over him the works of your hands.

  168. Now, now you may see that as a negative phrase when it says you've made him a little lower than the angels, but in fact, what that means is that they are more powerful than us, they are wiser than us, they are faster than us, they are the messengers of God, and they take care of us.

  169. You ever heard?

  170. It almost sounds silly.

  171. It almost sounds like uh Easter claws or a Santa bunny.

  172. It almost sounds mythological when it says that you and I, when I say you and I have guardian angels.

  173. That's doctrine.

  174. That's biblical.

  175. Let me show it to you.

  176. Let me show you to you.

  177. Why does God cover us?

  178. On this earth we are weak and limited.

  179. God sends angels who are mightier than we are to watch over and minister to us according to God's purpose.

  180. Look at Hebrews 1:14, the last chapter.

    Hebrews 1:14

  181. For they, that is angels, not are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister to those who will inherit salvation?

  182. That ain't the dogs.

  183. That ain't the animals, that's not monkeys, that's you and me.

  184. That's you and me.

  185. And God sends angels to minister to us.

  186. And Matthew 18, 10 says, See that you do not despise one of these little ones.

  187. For I say to you that their angels in heaven continually see the face of my Father who is in heaven.

  188. In other words, the angels are rooting for you.

  189. You got angels reporting about you.

  190. You got angels looking over you.

  191. And when Peter was in prison and the church was gathered praying for him, an angel of God went to the prison, opened all the doors, loosed his shackles, and let Peter go free.

  192. He just walked right out past the guards and everybody.

  193. Miracle, miraculous event.

  194. And so he went home.

  195. He went to where he went to church, is where he went.

  196. He went down where everybody was gathered, and they were praying.

  197. People were weeping, and you can imagine sobbing and praying for the deliverance of Peter.

  198. A knock comes on the door, and they send a young maiden over to answer the door, and she opens the door, and it's Peter, and she slams the door in his face, turns around and goes back and says, It's Peter.

  199. And this is what happens.

  200. Acts 12, 15.

  201. And they said to her, You are out of your mind.

  202. Nobody gets past the Roman centurions, nobody gets out of those shackles, nobody gets through those bars.

  203. But she kept insisting that it was so.

  204. So they kept saying, It is his angel.

  205. It is his angel.

  206. They even knew that there were ministering angels around.

  207. Angels, as the old song says, camping all around us.

  208. So we have angels that are watching over us.

  209. Why does God cover us by angels?

  210. Number three, why does God crown us?

  211. Look at the next phrase.

  212. You have been crowned with glory and honor.

  213. Now that was a little harder to see a little bit, but we are crowned with glory and honor.

  214. We are well, let me let me just do it this way.

  215. Genesis 127 says, So God created man in his own image.

  216. Not the monkeys, not the birds, not the dog, not the lions, not the whales.

  217. Us.

  218. We are created in the image of God, and in the image of God he created him, male and female, he created them.

  219. We are the crown of God's creation for some reason.

  220. And we are glorious.

  221. Hey, how many history books have the cheetahs written?

  222. Anybody?

  223. How many books have elephants written?

  224. How much of history was recorded by the sea creatures?

  225. None.

  226. Man did it all.

  227. Man did it all.

  228. We are the centerpiece of his creation.

  229. His infinite investment in us shows his mighty love for us.

  230. Why does God make us the crown of his creation?

  231. Again, I have no idea.

  232. Number four, or D in your outline, why does God commission us?

  233. Why does God choose us to do his bidding down here on earth?

  234. He commissioned us.

  235. Verse 7, look at verse 7, last of it said, You have set him over the works of your hand, you have put all things in subjection under his feet.

  236. By the way, I want to tell you something.

  237. You're going to see this in a minute, but Psalm 8 is a dual prophecy of not only man, but also prophetic about Jesus, the Son of Man.

  238. And we'll see that in just a minute.

  239. But right now, I believe, and it's pretty obvious, he's talking about mankind.

  240. You and me.

  241. You and me.

  242. Reach over and slap somebody and say, You're human.

  243. No, don't do that.

  244. Don't do that.

  245. Some of you need to slap and paint somebody and tell them, wake up and listen to me.

  246. But anyway, that's all right.

  247. They probably took some medicine.

  248. God's original intent for man is found in Genesis 1.28.

  249. God blessed them, and God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it, have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air, over every living thing that moves on the earth.

  250. That was God's original plan for man.

  251. He was in charge of all of it.

  252. He named all the animals, and he was in charge of the garden and everything else that God had put on earth.

  253. And in a broken way, and although Adam sinned and everything was ruined in a broken way, hey, do you realize this Adam, and I don't know how many years he was there before they fell, but you realize that Adam tended a garden.

  254. All he had to do is put the seeds in the ground.

  255. That's it.

  256. I mean, didn't have much to do, didn't have to weed eat.

  257. There was no weeds.

  258. No weeds.

  259. No bad sunlight, no drought, no tsunamis.

  260. Everything was perfect.

  261. And tending a garden you did without sweat.

  262. You didn't even have to hardly bend down to dig holes, just throw the seed on the ground, and it grew.

  263. It was paradise.

  264. It was wonderful.

  265. And then Adam decided he would no mourn God and he ate that fruit.

  266. And God plunged him into a curse.

  267. And he cursed the ground.

  268. Weeds sprung up.

  269. Disease sprung up.

  270. But still, it is God's intention for man to cultivate this earth.

  271. And by the way, if man didn't do it, how many leopards have you ever seen tend a garden?

  272. Now I ask you this how many mules or how many cows have you ever seen tend a garden?

  273. And you want to say, Oh, I've seen that.

  274. You have never seen it.

  275. You've seen a man forcing a donkey to do it, or forcing some oxen to do it, but you put those oxen out in the field and say, hey, give me a garden, all you're gonna get is piles of that's true.

  276. Thank you for that.

  277. That's all you're gonna get.

  278. Footprints, hoof prints, that's what you're gonna get all over that field.

  279. They won't do it, they don't do it, they don't know how to do it, they don't have the sense to do it, they have not been made in the image of God, but you and I have.

  280. And Psalm 8.6 says, You have made him, mankind, to have dominion over the works of your hands.

  281. He still says that, that we have dominion over the works of your hands.

  282. You have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, even the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea that pass through the paths of the sea.

  283. Let me ask you something.

  284. Who beats back the weeds nowadays?

  285. Who builds the buildings nowadays?

  286. Who harnesses the animals for use?

  287. Who harnesses the wind for energy?

  288. Who grows the crops for food?

  289. Who keeps you and I from having to wear fig leaves?

  290. We do.

  291. Mankind does.

  292. God has given us wisdom and ability, and we have taken it and used it for the most part for good.

  293. But we've also created war and killing and sin, sin, sin.

  294. That brings me to my third point, and that's the problem.

  295. The problem.

  296. GK Chesterton said this.

  297. Whatever else is or is not true, this one thing is certain.

  298. Man is not what he was meant to be.

  299. Instead of having the mastery, he is mastered.

  300. Instead of ruling, he is enslaved.

  301. Instead of being characterized by strength, he's characterized by great weakness.

  302. Instead of being an ally of the Lord God, subject to him, the scriptures tell us that he is a rebel against God.

  303. And instead of being characterized by glory, he's characterized by shame.

  304. Man seeks his destiny by tyranny and cruelty.

  305. There is still something planted within the nature of man, though, that leads him to want to rule.

  306. But it's broken.

  307. And he rules harshly, he rules sinfully.

  308. You know that phrase we like to talk about when we talk about marriage that a woman's desire will be for her husband and he will rule over her.

  309. What that means is they're going to argue and they're going to fight over who's the boss.

  310. Now make no mistake, I'm going to say it without smiling.

  311. The man is the boss of the house.

  312. God has called men to lead their home spiritually and by example.

  313. And when it says that Ben says he will rule over her, that is equally as negative as a woman trying to rule over a man because it's talking about tyranny.

  314. It's talking about dictatorially.

  315. No, my friend, we are to lead by love and by support and by let me tell you something.

  316. You're the head of the house at home.

  317. She's the head of the house.

  318. God has given her the employment of the house.

  319. You go out and work and you pay the bills and you support and protect and you come home and you have a nice place to sit and a good meal to eat and things like that.

  320. That's the order of things.

  321. And I realize it's different nowadays.

  322. So many women work, and I understand that you gotta figure it out.

  323. But at the end of the day, men, it is your responsibility to lead that family.

  324. And first and foremost of all, spiritually.

  325. If your kids have never heard you read the word of God, fall on your face, repent of your sin.

  326. And you wonder why your kids rebel and they never hear you gather the family up to pray or to read the Bible or to sit down and say, hey, brother Ron preaching about this.

  327. Let's talk about it.

  328. Now you talk about, listen, yeah, we I was kidding the guys back in the prayer time.

  329. By the way, men's prayer time at 9.35 every Sunday morning.

  330. Men, you come meet us there for that.

  331. All they know from you is the football statistics that the Razorbacks stink.

  332. And that the Dallas Cowboys ought to be doing better.

  333. All they know from you is how to play ball or to get a good education.

  334. I mean, you'll do that, you'll force them, you'll get on to them, and you'll get on to them for that.

  335. You make them brush their teeth, you make them uh you make them uh to do good sports and be at practice and give 100%, and you make them good do good at school, you get on to them when they don't, you make them you made them learn how to bathe their body, you didn't give them a choice of that, but if they want to read the Bible, they can.

  336. I don't want to force it on them.

  337. That's that Greek word means baloney.

  338. You've taught them everything but the word of God and prayer and faithfulness to God, and expect them to turn out little angels.

  339. They're not, they're demons, and you've got to work it out of them through the teaching of the word of God.

  340. Some of you are smiling, some of you are frowning.

  341. But if I didn't tell the truth, stand up and say so.

  342. Anyway, y'all got me off track.

  343. Men are sinners by nature.

  344. Your little children who you think are angels are actually little demons by nature.

  345. We are sinners by nature.

  346. There is no good thing in man at all when he is born, when he is conceived.

  347. David said, I was shaping in iniquity and in sin.

  348. My mother, listen, conceived me.

  349. They're far away from God.

  350. And how awful it is for us to brag about when our kids get up and old and and they go on, whatever, to brag about the trophies they won, to drag about the drag to brag about the diplomas they won, to brag about the good jobs they won, to brag about the money they have, and they die and go to hell forever.

  351. Awful.

  352. Awful.

  353. Let me go on.

  354. But we do not see all things put under him.

  355. There's a problem.

  356. Why has he lost the stewardship of most of it?

  357. I mean, he's got the stewardship of the earth, but not really.

  358. Man disobeyed God and sinned.

  359. And now Satan rules this earth.

  360. He is the God of this world.

  361. He influences the people to help him.

  362. 2 Corinthians 4.4 says, Whose minds the God of this age has blinded.

  363. That's talking about Satan.

  364. Who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel, the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.

  365. John 14, 30, I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming and has come, has nothing in me.

  366. John 16, 11, of judgment that the Holy Spirit's going to talk about and learn, teach us judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

  367. Who's he talking about?

  368. He's talking about angels, fallen angels, demons.

  369. They're angels too, by the way.

  370. Ephesians 2.2 says, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience.

  371. 1 John 5.19, we know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.

  372. He is in charge.

  373. I say in charge, he has the upper hand, but it is Michael and Gabriel and the rest of the angels of heaven that are beating him back.

  374. Let me tell you what's happening right now.

  375. Although Satan's trying his best and God's giving him a little leash, I'll tell you what's happening right now: the will of God Almighty.

  376. Because I want to tell you something.

  377. All this jogging for a position, one thing's never going to change, is God is always at the top.

  378. But we know that we will.

  379. Let me back up.

  380. We're talking about the problem.

  381. The problem is men disobeyed God and sin.

  382. Satan rules the earth and influences people to help.

  383. But we know that one day we will.

  384. You and I will rule this earth in godliness and in righteousness, and we will no longer be lower than the angels.

  385. They will be lower to us.

  386. Let me prove it to you.

  387. Let me show you this because it's not necessarily I'm adding this because it comes later, so I want to get it in right now.

  388. But anyway, look at this.

  389. 1 Corinthians 6, verse 2.

    1 Corinthians 6:2

  390. Do you not know that the saints will judge the world?

  391. And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matter?

  392. He's talking about in the church when discipline needs to happen, but he goes way beyond the church to give the example.

  393. Do you not know that we shall judge angels?

  394. So, this order that it's in right now, we're gonna be coming up on the inside.

  395. And we're gonna be judging the world, and we're gonna be ruling angels, however, that looks.

  396. But we're gonna be doing it in righteousness and holiness and love and godliness.

  397. Amen.

  398. It's gonna be done right.

  399. And then number four, we see the prince.

  400. I've got to hurry.

  401. I've got about ten minutes if I want to get done before the top of the hour with the rest of the uh six.

  402. I've got about five more pages of notes.

  403. Let's see what I can do.

  404. Y'all ready?

  405. The prince.

  406. But we see Jesus.

  407. But we see Jesus.

  408. Everything's out of order.

  409. Everything is in disorder.

  410. You've got fallen angels who are the rulers of this world, and you have a man that's supposed to rule, but he can't because he sinned and he's broken and he's dark inside.

  411. After quoting Psalm 8, the author explains the dual nature of this prophecy.

  412. Look at verse 8.

  413. Look at verse 8 down here.

  414. He said, You have put all things in subjection under his feet, for in that, for in that he put all in subjection under his feet.

  415. He left nothing that is not put under him, but now we do not yet see all things put under him.

  416. In that is Psalm 8.

  417. In Psalm 8 is what he's talking about.

  418. In that, in what?

  419. In the verses that I just quoted, he says, Psalm 8.

  420. He put all things in subjection under him.

  421. Who's him?

  422. Man.

  423. He left nothing that was that is not put under him, that is man.

  424. But now we do not yet see all things put under him, under man.

  425. This cannot be said of Jesus.

  426. This can be said of Jesus.

  427. All things are under him.

  428. Matter of fact, when things weren't under him, they were under him.

  429. If that makes sense.

  430. Y'all still with me?

  431. The chaos of this world is all.

  432. Now listen to me, part of his divine plan.

  433. He allowed it.

  434. He could have destroyed it all and started over.

  435. I want to tell you what's happening right now.

  436. Now listen to me.

  437. Is not, what's happening now in this world is not plan B.

  438. He only has plan A.

  439. He is sovereign.

  440. And all things are according to the counsel of his own will.

  441. Ephesians 1.11.

  442. Then comes the glorious introduction of the one who is ruler of all.

  443. But we see Jesus.

  444. He too was made a little lower than the angels for about 33 years.

  445. Just 33 years, folks.

  446. He was made a little lower than the angels.

  447. He was born in a stable.

  448. He walked as a servant, the Bible says in Matthew 8 20.

  449. Foxes have holes and the birds of the air had nests.

  450. But the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.

  451. Can you imagine the King of Kings having to say that about himself?

  452. Born in a barn, my friend, it wasn't some glowing starry eye where the angels were where the animals were smiling all over the floor of that stall and stable were cowhoofs, prince.

  453. After they'd pushed the manure down into the hay.

  454. No one should be born in a barn.

  455. But the king of kings, the Lord of Lords, was born in a barn.

  456. He walked as a servant.

  457. He didn't come to serve, but to be he didn't come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many, the Bible says.

  458. Isaiah 53, too.

  459. I'm going to read all of this.

  460. I know the time's fleeting, but it could go.

  461. For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant and as a root out of the dry ground.

  462. This is the Old Testament.

  463. Listen.

  464. He has no form nor comeliness.

  465. And when we see him, that means Jesus didn't come with a halo.

  466. He had no halo.

  467. He had no horns.

  468. He had no wings.

  469. He just came as a man.

  470. There is no beauty that we should desire him in more than any other man.

  471. He is despised.

  472. He was despised and rejected of men.

  473. That's what he was.

  474. A man of sorrows.

  475. He was acquainted with grief.

  476. And we hid our we hid, as it were, our faces from him.

  477. He was despised, and we did not esteem him.

  478. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows.

  479. Yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God.

  480. Why?

  481. Because he has taken the wrath of your sin and mine on himself, and afflicted.

  482. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities, and the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and by his stripes we are healed.

  483. Oh, we like sheep, we've gone astray.

  484. All of us have turned our own way, and the Lord laid upon our rebellion our rebellion on him.

  485. He was oppressed and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth.

  486. He was led as a lamb to the slaughter and a sheep before its shears was silent.

  487. So he opened not his mouth.

  488. He was taken from the prison and from judgment.

  489. And who will declare his generation?

  490. For he was cut off from man from the land of the living, excuse me.

  491. Means he died for the why?

  492. For the transgression of you, my people, he was stricken.

  493. And they made his grave with the wicked, but with the rich at his death, because he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.

  494. Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him.

  495. He has put him to grief.

  496. When you make his soul an offering for sin, listen, listen, listen, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his day, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

  497. It's going to work.

  498. It's going to work.

  499. And yes, he was a little lower than the angels, a lot lower, a lot lower.

  500. And he was crucified and beaten and stricken and killed.

  501. But my friend, he rose again on the third day and he took over that position.

  502. He didn't lose it.

  503. He just laid it down for a little bit.

  504. And he rules and reigns right now.

  505. For 33 years he went without sin.

  506. He was crucified without a struggle.

  507. And he woke to resurrection self-sufficiently.

  508. I wish we had some people that felt this today.

  509. That was overcome by what Jesus did and who he was and now who he is now.

  510. Here in the middle of this verse, that comparison and dual prophecy ends.

  511. It ends.

  512. Look at look at that.

  513. Look at verse 8.

  514. He said, You have put all things in subjection under his feet, for in that he put all in subjection under his feet, he left nothing that is not under his feet.

  515. But now we do not yet see all things put under him.

  516. But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor, that he, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.

  517. My friend, right there, the comparison ends.

  518. We couldn't die for ourselves.

  519. We couldn't pay for our sin.

  520. We couldn't do it.

  521. Jesus did it.

  522. He became the Son of Man to die as a sacrifice for you.

  523. And by the way, this is what this is talking about.

  524. That's why he's talking about man.

  525. He's mindful of man and about man being a little lower than the angels and all.

  526. Because Jesus also became man.

  527. He became man too.

  528. He suffered.

  529. He was made a little lower than the angels.

  530. He became like us without sin.

  531. Why?

  532. So that he could die for our sin.

  533. So he could make the sacrifice.

  534. So he could be a high priest that was touched with the feelings of our infirmity.

  535. And thus it says, crowned with glory and honor.

  536. John 17, 4, I have glorified you on earth.

  537. I have finished the work for which you have given me.

  538. This is Jesus speaking to his father.

  539. He's in the garden.

  540. He's fixed to go to the cross.

  541. And this is what he says.

  542. Now, O Father, glorify me together with yourself with the glory which we had with you before the world was.

  543. He said this about his crucifixion and death.

  544. That don't sound much like much glory.

  545. That doesn't sound like much honor.

  546. Well, my friend, I want to tell you something.

  547. The glory of a man who's in a race and he wins.

  548. The glory, although on the outside, I guess you'd think it is when he's raising that trophy.

  549. I tell you, the glory is when he's on the practice field, throwing his guts up.

  550. When he's on the practice field, and after he gets off the practice field, he takes his shoes off, and his feet are nothing but blisters.

  551. I had a friend, he was a tennis player, and he he would practice a practice, and he'd take his shoes off just to gross us out, and his socks off, and his his it was just nothing but uh a foot and five blisters.

  552. No, the glory is on the on the running track.

  553. When he's running his heart out, and he's doing all the things, he's putting it all together, and he runs and he runs, and I tell you, the glory is when he crosses that finish line.

  554. The glory is not the podium, the glory is not the trophy, the glory is in the accomplishment, in the doing.

  555. That's just an acknowledgement.

  556. The glory is in the accomplishment.

  557. Write that down.

  558. That was good.

  559. That just came right off my head.

  560. Let me tell you what what are you saying, brother Ron?

  561. How is he more glorious in the cross in the crucifixion than in you know his glory now in heaven?

  562. I tell you why, because I don't need a royal, I need redemption.

  563. I don't need a prince, I need propitiation, atonement.

  564. I don't need fanfare, I need forgiveness.

  565. And I don't need a crown, I need a cross.

  566. That's the glory.

  567. Marching on, marching on.

  568. For Christ count everything but loss, and will crown him king, toil and sing beneath the banner of the cross.
