  1. And then I want to look back at verse 11.

  2. The Bible says, Jesus answered,

  3. thou couldst have no power at all against me,

  4. except it were given thee from above,

  5. therefore he that delivered me onto thee

  6. hath the greater sin.

  7. Now this phrase here in John chapter 19 of great or sin

    John 19 chapter mention

  8. illustrates that not everything is of the same level.

  9. And so, you know, in the Bible,

  10. not only are there bigger sins and lesser sins,

  11. there's also things that are the best thing to do,

  12. and then maybe the second best thing to do.

  13. There's not necessarily just everything's

  14. on the exact same level.

  15. There's the perfect idea of what you should do,

  16. then there's maybe the next best option.

  17. There's things that are legal.

  18. There's things that are illegal.

  19. There's things that are sin.

  20. There's things that are worthy of a crime.

  21. There's different layers when it comes to

  22. understanding what's actually happening in the Bible

  23. and how the Bible classifies different actions.

  24. And it's important as a preacher and as a pastor

  25. to preach the entire Bible,

  26. which will illustrate for the most part,

  27. every scenario and every response and every action

  28. that we can possibly really know about in this life.

  29. You know, life is complicated.

  30. There's so many different things that can possibly happen.

  31. There's an infinite number of possibilities and scenarios

  32. that we can find ourselves in.

  33. But the Bible ends up having boundaries and frameworks

  34. to allow us to understand the decisions that we're making,

  35. how God views them.

  36. Does God view what we're doing as the best decision

  37. that I could make, as an acceptable decision,

  38. as a legal decision, as an illegal decision, as a sin,

  39. as arguably here, a greater sin.

  40. And so the Bible very clearly articulates

  41. that there are distinctions in these categories.

  42. And it's important as preachers

  43. to not only preach ideally what should happen,

  44. but to also preach about all these other scenarios

  45. and all these other situations that we find ourselves in.

  46. And so my sermon this morning is just called

  47. Ideal versus Real.

  48. And I've been wanting to preach on this topic

  49. for a long time, but I feel like,

  50. you know, this is a good opportunity for us

  51. to just go through all kinds of different situations

  52. and we could really talk about anything.

  53. But I did kind of make a chart

  54. that I'm gonna kind of reference throughout the sermon.

  55. And then this is kind of basically,

  56. this is gonna be what the sermon is about.

  57. But it's just to illustrate the point.

  58. Now, before we get to the chart,

  59. I just wanna prove what I just said even more, okay?

  60. Let's go to 1st John chapter number five for a moment.

  61. Go to 1st John chapter five.

  62. But Jesus Christ being betrayed by Judas Iscariot

  63. is a greater sin than you telling a white lie.

  64. You know, it's one thing to tell someone a lie.

  65. It's another thing to lie about someone in court

  66. and get them killed.

  67. It's one thing to steal someone's wallet.

  68. It's another thing to steal their wife.

  69. It's one thing to look with lust.

  70. It's another thing to commit physical adultery.

  71. And we should never collapse all these categories into one

  72. and act as if there is no difference.

  73. Now, going to hell, if you say,

  74. what does it take to go to hell?

  75. Any sin.

  76. It could be a little sin or a big sin

  77. can cause you to deserve hell.

  78. But we don't wanna then collapse those categories

  79. and say all sin is equal.

  80. I hear this all the time and it's not true.

  81. Who hears this at the door that all sin is equal?

  82. Yeah, unfortunately, that's not a true statement.

  83. The only thing that's kind of true about it

  84. is that all sin will take you to hell.

  85. I say all sin is punished with the penalty of hell.

  86. But here's the thing, the Bible even says within hell

  87. there's certain layers or levels of hell

  88. and that some people are gonna be suffering worse

  89. and that would be in relation to how bad they were.

  90. So even though you could say all sin is equal

  91. that's not even true.

  92. The child molesting rapist is gonna be

  93. in a worse part of hell than the guy

  94. that just decided to be prideful

  95. and go to church and believe in his works.

  96. You know, that guy is not gonna go

  97. to the exact same place of hell.

  98. But it's still hell, nevertheless.

  99. So, you know, even the best part of hell

  100. is still hell, okay?

  101. But at the end of the day,

  102. the Bible talks about a greater damnation.

  103. The Bible talks about the lowest parts of hell.

  104. So there is a worse aspect of hell in a sense,

  105. just like there's technically a better place in heaven.

  106. Not even heaven.

  107. Everything is completely equal.

  108. We're not all gonna have the exact same status,

  109. the exact same brilliance in our glory.

  110. We're not gonna have the exact same position.

  111. We're not gonna have the exact same inheritance,

  112. you know, as far as our personal,

  113. whatever we get in heaven.

  114. Obviously, we all are together, collective.

  115. We are the inheritors with Christ,

  116. but it's indicated in the Bible

  117. that we have our own dwelling places.

  118. We have our own something that we're ruling over

  119. and that's gonna be dependent on

  120. how much you serve God, what you did,

  121. you know, in this life.

  122. And so we have to understand that there are layers.

  123. Now, look at 1st John chapter five

  124. and I wanna look at a verse here

  125. that's talking about sin.

  126. Look at verse 16 of a man see his brother sin of sin,

  127. which is not unto death.

  128. He shall ask and he shall give him life for them

  129. that sin not unto death.

  130. There is a sin unto death.

  131. I do not say he should pray for it.

  132. How could you read this verse

  133. and then say all sins equal?

  134. The Bible is saying, in some cases,

  135. there's sins that you should ask God

  136. for him to help this person

  137. and to give grace unto this person

  138. and then there's some sins unto death.

  139. Don't even pray about it.

  140. Don't even ask about it.

  141. So again, we're showing that there is a distinction in sin.

  142. There's a greater sin here.

  143. It's the sin unto death.

  144. There's a sin not unto death.

  145. These are two different kinds of sins, aren't they?

  146. Both are sin, both are bad.

  147. We wanna make sure that we're categorizing things correctly.

  148. Go to 1st Corinthians chapter number six.

  149. Now let's talk about the flip side.

  150. Not everything that is not a sin is equal either.

  151. There are things that you can do that are lawful.

  152. There are things that you can do that are legal.

  153. And when I say legal,

  154. I wanna make it clear for the rest of the sermon,

  155. I'm talking about lawful according to God's law,

  156. not man's law.

  157. I know we live in America,

  158. but that doesn't mean that anything to me, okay?

  159. According to the Bible, we also live in God's universe

  160. and that's the law that really matters, okay?

  161. That's the highest law.

  162. That's the law that I really care about the most.

  163. And so when we talk about something being legal

  164. according to God's law,

  165. that doesn't mean that's the exact step

  166. that God wants you to take

  167. or that's the best or the perfect will of God, okay?

  168. Sometimes God wants you to do something beyond

  169. just what's legal or justice or eye for eye in a sense.

  170. And here's another example.

  171. This 1st Corinthians 6, look at verse 12.

  172. All things are lawful unto me,

  173. but all things are not expedient.

  174. All things are lawful for me,

  175. but I will not be brought under the power of any.

  176. Meats for the belly and belly for meats,

  177. but God shall destroy both it and them.

  178. Now the body is not for fornication,

  179. but for the Lord and the Lord for the body.

  180. Now here in verse 12,

  181. he just is kind of giving a blanket generic statement.

  182. I think that the most immediate application

  183. of this particular verse is verse 13

  184. where he says meats for the belly.

  185. Saying like technically I can eat any meat

  186. and that's true.

  187. According to the Bible in the New Testament,

  188. you can eat any food, any meat,

  189. but he brings up in other places in Corinthians

  190. and other places in the Bible

  191. that if it was meat sacrificed in the idols

  192. and he's aware of it, he's not gonna eat that.

  193. Okay, so that wouldn't be expedient.

  194. That wouldn't be appropriate.

  195. That wouldn't be right.

  196. And in a sense it would even be possibly

  197. a fellowship between the devils,

  198. but he could eat meat sacrificed in the idols

  199. if he didn't know about it.

  200. If he has completely unaware,

  201. it's not gonna harm him

  202. because it's technically lawful for him

  203. and how is God gonna judge him

  204. for thanking him for this meat

  205. and ignorantly eating it,

  206. those quote sacrificed idols.

  207. He's saying is the idol anything?

  208. No, everything is the Lord's.

  209. So in that case, God's not gonna judge him.

  210. So what is it meaning?

  211. It's saying yeah, I can technically eat

  212. anything that I want.

  213. I can have anything that I want.

  214. But does that mean it's expedient?

  215. Now again, what is expedient?

  216. Prudent, wise,

  217. a good idea.

  218. You know, especially in America,

  219. we have such an abundance of food

  220. that we almost have an opportunity

  221. to eat virtually anything that we want.

  222. Like pretty much anything that's available

  223. on the market, you could possibly have.

  224. Now I've heard of cuisines that are pretty exotic.

  225. I don't know if you can get it in America.

  226. You know, this thing called belute.

  227. Who knows what I'm talking about?

  228. Okay, belute.

  229. Is that available in America?

  230. Does anybody know?

  231. Like, maybe, obviously you could just grab an egg

  232. and eat it, I get it.

  233. But I'm just saying like,

  234. I don't think restaurants are really serving this up

  235. in America typically or other places and stuff like that.

  236. Now again, let's talk about belute for a second, okay?

  237. And I'm not an expert on this particular subject,

  238. but it's basically like an unhatched bird in an egg,

  239. okay, in a sense.

  240. It's an undeveloped bird and egg.

  241. If I'm saying it wrong, then correct me later.

  242. But that's more or less what I understand it to be, okay?

  243. Now, people will just eat this, okay?

  244. And I find it not something I would ever try, okay?

  245. So you're like, oh, Pasasilo, you gonna try this?

  246. No, I'm good.

  247. I don't have to try everything, okay?

  248. But here's the thing, it's not sinful.

  249. It's all things are lawful under me.

  250. Now here's the question though, is it expedient?

  251. That's the real question, okay?

  252. And the thing is, what if it's like,

  253. hey, I'm gonna only eat belute for the rest of my life?

  254. Like, I don't know that that's really the best idea.

  255. You know, let's get a more extreme.

  256. How about the guy that did the supersize me?

  257. Who's ever heard of the supersize me?

  258. I don't even know how real it is.

  259. People say it's fake.

  260. But the idea is this guy was gonna eat McDonald's

  261. for like 30 days straight, nothing but McDonald's.

  262. It's like, is that legal?

  263. Like according to God's law, is that a sin technically?

  264. I don't think it's a sin,

  265. but I just think that's a pretty unwise decision.

  266. It's probably not an expedient decision.

  267. It's like, hey, you could be vegan if you want,

  268. but that might have consequences.

  269. If you decide to not eat any meat or any protein,

  270. like that could cause you to have a physical problem.

  271. If you go only carnivore, some people go only carnivore

  272. and that causes them problems.

  273. God gave us both proteins and he gave us also

  274. vegetables and nutrients.

  275. Seems like having a well-balanced diet

  276. is usually the most expedient.

  277. Albeit you can do whatever you want.

  278. You could decide I'm only eating raisins

  279. for the rest of my life.

  280. Or I'm only gonna have bananas

  281. or I'm gonna only eat carrots.

  282. My dad went through a phase where he's like

  283. basically only eating carrots.

  284. Like juicing carrots and only eating carrots

  285. and he's like gonna carrot fast

  286. and then he started turning orange.

  287. It was kind of weird, all right?

  288. But you know, and again,

  289. then because of severe health issues he was having,

  290. he changed his diet.

  291. Okay, he was like that's not a good idea

  292. and it's not a good idea, okay?

  293. But again, was it a sin?

  294. You know again, obviously there's some passages

  295. in the Bible that says we're supposed to take care

  296. of our body and our body's a temple

  297. and so yeah, obviously just doing things

  298. that are very harmful to the body

  299. you could argue is now venturing into sin.

  300. But for the most part, I mean you can eat

  301. whatever you want.

  302. You can kind of just do whatever you want

  303. in a lot of categories

  304. but it doesn't mean it's always the best decision.

  305. You know, eating healthy food and exercising,

  306. these things are the best ideas for you.

  307. You know, do you have to be the most buff

  308. and in shape person to be right with God?

  309. No, but is it expedient to be lazy and eat poor

  310. and not take care of yourself?

  311. No, that's not really very expedient.

  312. So there's a difference between the best decision

  313. and acceptable decisions

  314. and things that are technically not a sin.

  315. But that doesn't mean that every single decision

  316. is the right decision as far as the best,

  317. the most optimal, the thing that God would really have you do

  318. as the ideal.

  319. There's the ideal and then there's the real, okay?

  320. And we're gonna talk about that more depth

  321. but I'm just trying to prove my point

  322. that the apostle Paul is clearly saying

  323. there are things on the table that I could do

  324. and it would not be a sin

  325. but that doesn't mean it's the best decision.

  326. It's not necessarily expedient, okay?

  327. Let's go to some more passages.

  328. Let's go to Matthew chapter five for a moment

  329. which is actually really virtually a quote from Deuteronomy

  330. but in Deuteronomy it says to be perfect, okay?

  331. God just instructs us to be perfect

  332. and what does that mean?

  333. Doing everything absolutely right.

  334. So if we could identify anywhere in the Bible

  335. that this is exactly God's perfect will

  336. then we should always do that.

  337. God gives us an instruction

  338. and commands us to do what's perfect.

  339. Look at Matthew chapter five verse 48.

  340. Be therefore perfect even as your father

  341. which in heaven is perfect.

  342. Now again Matthew five is really famous

  343. and we're gonna use portions of this

  344. in our sermon this morning

  345. but Matthew five is really famous

  346. for going beyond what would be lawful,

  347. what would be legal, what the law prescribes

  348. and doing what's the most perfect form of righteousness.

  349. Basically the highest level of righteousness

  350. which would be argued as the perfect will of God

  351. and then we're commanded and instructed to be perfect.

  352. But the good news is is no one will ever be perfect

  353. and so grace covers our sin,

  354. grace covers our imperfections,

  355. hey grace even covers our less expedient decisions

  356. in a sense and so no one's gonna be perfect

  357. but our expectation is to be perfect.

  358. I always use this illustration to mean it's very clear

  359. my children are expected to follow

  360. every single one of my rules.

  361. I never give rules or instructions to my kids

  362. and I'm thinking this is optional.

  363. Like clean your room.

  364. This is an optional idea.

  365. Clean your room on time or eat your dinner

  366. or brush your teeth or don't hit your brother.

  367. This is, it's always expected.

  368. They should always follow every rule perfectly

  369. but you know what I also expect that every single day

  370. they will not follow my rules okay.

  371. So there's the ideal and then there's the real

  372. and just like my children transgress every day

  373. we, if we were honest with ourselves

  374. are probably transgressing God's law every single day.

  375. So we should do both.

  376. We should number one,

  377. preach what the ideal perfect will of God is

  378. as pastors and preachers and as Christians.

  379. We should tell people what we should do

  380. but then we should also talk about reality

  381. because none of us are gonna ever do that

  382. so then what do we do when we find ourselves

  383. in a situation where we didn't follow

  384. the perfect will of God?

  385. Where we're not in the ideal situation

  386. where we're not experiencing something that's perfect.

  387. As preachers and pastors

  388. we can't only ever preach perfection.

  389. We can't only ever preach what's ideal.

  390. We should also preach what's real

  391. and this is where people get mad

  392. because you know there are gonna be things that

  393. there's gonna be situations,

  394. there's gonna be circumstances

  395. where I am never gonna be in that situation.

  396. I'm never gonna be in this problem

  397. but I'm still gonna preach it because other people are.

  398. It's just like, hey what about people

  399. that are divorced five times?

  400. It's like well I'm never gonna be divorced five times

  401. but I'll tell you what I would do

  402. I'll tell you what the Bible says

  403. in that particular scenario.

  404. It's like hey what would you do

  405. if you find yourself in this weird scenario

  406. and it's just like well I'm never gonna be

  407. in that scenario but I'll tell you what I should do.

  408. I'll tell you what the Bible says.

  409. So as pastors and preachers

  410. we should preach about what you would do

  411. in a situation when it happens.

  412. You're not recommending it,

  413. you're not even necessarily suggesting it.

  414. You're saying this is where people really are though.

  415. Okay and we shouldn't be sitting here

  416. and just saying well I'm perfect

  417. and my wife's perfect and my family's perfect

  418. and so I'm just gonna talk about that.

  419. Well that's not very relatable

  420. because for the rest of us,

  421. well none of us are perfect.

  422. You know now are we commanded to be perfect?

  423. Sure.

  424. Are we told to be perfect?

  425. Yes.

  426. But are we perfect?

  427. No.

  428. Go to Galatians chapter three

  429. it's one more verse I'm gonna go before

  430. I really get through the sermon

  431. but I'm trying to just prove beyond a shadow of a doubt

  432. the Bible makes it clear there are levels of righteousness

  433. and there's levels of sin.

  434. There's the perfect will of God,

  435. there's what's ideal

  436. and then there's reality.

  437. There's what people are gonna actually do.

  438. And of course why would God

  439. even fill the entire Old Testament

  440. with all these instructions of what you do when you sin

  441. if no one was gonna sin?

  442. Why didn't God just say don't sin?

  443. Now he's like hey when you sin offer this offering

  444. and do this trespass offering

  445. and you know go here

  446. and it's just like he's given like all these different

  447. scenarios and all these different situations

  448. and all these different circumstances

  449. and the various ramifications

  450. and what you have to do to rectify

  451. because that's reality.

  452. Galatians chapter three verse 19

  453. the Bible says wherefore then served the law

  454. it was added because of transgressions.

  455. So what's the point of the law?

  456. It's to explain what you do when you're screwed up

  457. when you've caused all these problems.

  458. I wanna go to one other place

  459. go to Leviticus chapter five

  460. I thought of this as well.

  461. Leviticus chapter number five.

  462. Let's talk about the different options you have.

  463. You know and sometimes when people screw up

  464. they'll say hey how do I fix it?

  465. And it's like well here's the best thing to do to fix it.

  466. Then it's like I don't know if I wanna do that

  467. what other options is like well I guess

  468. you know here's the second best option

  469. here and then like here's like a third best option

  470. but it's like well what should I do?

  471. You should do the first best option you know

  472. but what if you can't?

  473. Well you know God thinks that way as well.

  474. Look at Leviticus chapter five

  475. look at verse number five

  476. and it shall be when he should be guilty

  477. in one of those things

  478. and one of these things

  479. that he should confess that he had sinned in that thing

  480. and he shall bring his trespass offering to the Lord

  481. for a sin which he had sinned

  482. a female from the flock a lamb

  483. or a kid of the goats for a sin offering

  484. and the priest shall make an atonement

  485. for him concerning his sin.

  486. So when you sin in this trespass

  487. what are you supposed to do?

  488. You're supposed to offer a lamb as a sacrifice.

  489. Okay and then it says look at verse seven

  490. and if you'd be not able to bring a lamb

  491. it's like the next breath

  492. it's like what if I can't bring a lamb?

  493. What if I just don't, what if that's not an option?

  494. Then he shall bring for his trespass

  495. which he has committed two turtle doves

  496. or two young pigeons out of the Lord

  497. for a sin offering and the other for a burn offering.

  498. So it's saying hey if you don't have a lamb

  499. well then offer two turtle doves.

  500. Look at verse 11.

  501. But if you'd be not able to bring two turtle doves

  502. notice how God is like not just saying

  503. hey just bring a lamb case closed

  504. it's like hey if you can't bring a lamb

  505. bring two turtle doves.

  506. What if I can't bring two turtles?

  507. All right let's address that.

  508. Verse 11.

  509. But if you're not able to bring two turtle doves

  510. or two young pigeons then he at sin

  511. shall bring for his offering the 10th part

  512. of an Eiffel fine flour for a sin offering.

  513. He shall put no oil upon it

  514. neither shall he put any frankincense there

  515. on for it as a sin offering.

  516. So it's like ideal lamb offering.

  517. You know I don't know what the market price is anymore

  518. but let's just try to put this

  519. in like modern day numbers okay.

  520. It's like a lamb I mean a whole lamb

  521. a perfect spotless lamb

  522. this could probably be several hundred dollars

  523. you know in a modern day context.

  524. I have no idea.

  525. I knew like a whole cow used to be

  526. like two or $3,000 or something.

  527. I have no idea anymore inflation

  528. just messes with numbers and me anymore

  529. but it's like I would venture to believe

  530. that a lamb could be 500, 600, $700 okay.

  531. How about two birds?

  532. That's probably you know less.

  533. I don't know.

  534. Let's just say like 50 bucks right.

  535. It's like hey if you trespass

  536. you better give $700 to the Lord.

  537. It's like but if you can't give 50

  538. and then it's like then it's like

  539. just give a 10th part of flour okay.

  540. Like a bag of flour is like I don't know

  541. if you get an organic one

  542. it might be seven bucks or something.

  543. I don't know if you get non-organic

  544. it might be like $3 or something.

  545. Let's say you went for the fancy flour.

  546. Only a 10th part.

  547. I mean it's like hey you either give $700

  548. or $50 or a dollar.

  549. You know it's just like

  550. if you can't afford 50 then just give a dollar you know.

  551. But it's like because again

  552. because to God it's not like

  553. oh $700 is like more important to God

  554. than a dollar or whatever.

  555. But it's like he wants it to be some recompense.

  556. He wants it to be some punishment

  557. and a sense for this particular sin.

  558. And so it's like what's ideal?

  559. Ideal give a lamb.

  560. And why?

  561. Because the lamb is the picture

  562. the Lord Jesus Christ and what he did for us.

  563. And that is the ultimate picture of the sacrifice

  564. because he's the lamb of God

  565. and it's taking the things of God seriously

  566. and reverently and it's really important that we do this.

  567. But you know what?

  568. God's like I get it.

  569. You can't really fix your situation perfectly

  570. and you're not in circumstances.

  571. You probably have more than one thing going on in your life

  572. since you can't even afford a lamb.

  573. But he's like if you wanna get right

  574. the door's still open.

  575. And so it's like God is really about the heart

  576. at the end of the day.

  577. But that doesn't mean that we should excuse ourselves

  578. and not always go for the best option

  579. and try to do what's right.

  580. So we need to preach all of it don't we?

  581. There's gonna be some people

  582. that find themselves in a situation

  583. where all they can do is give a buck.

  584. Where all they can do is give a 10th part

  585. of an epho of fine flour.

  586. And it's like you know what?

  587. Well that's what that guy should do.

  588. And we don't wanna ignore this guy

  589. and be like well I'm gonna give a lamb.

  590. My family would give a lamb.

  591. Well good for you that you would give a lamb.

  592. But not everybody can give a lamb.

  593. What about the other guy?

  594. Well he gives two turtle doves.

  595. What about the other guy?

  596. He gives a 10th part of a fine flour.

  597. So we wanna make sure that we understand

  598. not everybody is gonna be able to do the same things

  599. or have the same situation.

  600. And we want to preach from a biblical perspective

  601. what everybody should be doing.

  602. Not just what you're gonna do.

  603. You Mr. Perfect, okay?

  604. Go over to Matthew chapter 19 now.

    Matthew 19 chapter mention

  605. Let's go to Matthew chapter 19.

    Matthew 19 chapter mention

  606. So I created a chart and it may not make sense

  607. by just looking at it.

  608. Hopefully it makes a little bit of sense,

  609. but I basically want to categorize things

  610. this morning, levels of righteousness.

  611. And we wanna talk about,

  612. I'm just using all kinds of different scenarios

  613. to help us understand what we're talking about.

  614. But as I've described,

  615. I believe there's what we would call

  616. the perfect will of God.

  617. And this is what we've seen.

  618. He said be therefore perfect

  619. even as your father which is in heaven is perfect.

  620. We should always do what God wants us to do

  621. is perfection.

  622. When we talked about these sacrifices,

  623. the lamb is the perfect sacrifice for that situation,

  624. right?

  625. Then two turtle doves would be next.

  626. Then a fine flour.

  627. Hey, it's still lawful.

  628. It's still legal.

  629. It's still with the law prescribed.

  630. But it wasn't really the best, was it?

  631. The lamb was the best.

  632. The two turtle doves was next.

  633. And then barely scraping by at the bare minimum

  634. at the lowest level of just what is absolutely lawful

  635. is the what?

  636. The 10th part of an Epha, okay?

  637. And then I put a category in here of what's disputed.

  638. There's gonna be some things in the Bible,

  639. some situations, some scenarios

  640. that we don't really know exactly

  641. because there's not really a Bible verse about it

  642. or it's not a subject that's really discussed directly.

  643. We can point to maybe some verses

  644. that kind of give an idea or a sense

  645. and good Christian people

  646. are on both sides of this issue, okay?

  647. That's how I would describe this.

  648. Good Christian people.

  649. I'm not saying, hey, atheists will dispute this verse.

  650. I'm not saying freaks and trainees

  651. are disputing this verse.

  652. I'm saying like good Christian people

  653. are on both sides of this issue, okay?

  654. Then you have what's just clearly identified

  655. as sin in the Bible.

  656. Now again, this is actually a part in the Bible

  657. because it talks about doubtful disputations.

  658. So it's not like I'm coming up with this idea

  659. that there's some things that are disputed.

  660. No, the Bible literally says there's gonna be some things

  661. that good Christian people on both sides

  662. have doubtful disputations.

  663. There's some things in the Bible that are clearly sin.

  664. There's some things in the Bible that are clearly legal.

  665. Then there's some things that are doubtful disputation.

  666. And we wanna make sure that we're always identifying

  667. these categories and placing things correctly.

  668. There's things that are not only a sin,

  669. but they also then cross another boundary,

  670. another line of church discipline.

  671. Not every sin is church discipline,

  672. but there are some sins that cross a threshold

  673. and now it's crossed into a church discipline issue.

  674. Then there are some sins that not only

  675. are they church discipline, they're just illegal.

  676. This is something that is a crime according to God's law.

  677. This should be punished in some way.

  678. Then there are some crimes that cross a threshold

  679. where the punishment is the death penalty.

  680. This is a death penalty, a capital crime.

  681. And this is where I personally interpret

  682. what we read earlier in 1 John chapter number five,

  683. that if a man sin, there's a sin not under death

  684. and there's a sin under death.

  685. I do not say you should pray for it.

  686. Basically saying like, if we lived in a righteous society

  687. that had generally God's laws, okay,

  688. and someone's guilty of murder,

  689. we shouldn't be like, God,

  690. will you please allow this guy to get off with murder?

  691. It's like, no, we're gonna just bring him to the magistrate

  692. and he deserves to be put to death.

  693. But it's like this guy stole or something

  694. or this guy got drunk or something

  695. and made a big mistake or whatever.

  696. It's like, hey, we could pray that God

  697. be graces that person and be merciful to that person

  698. and not necessarily give them what they deserve, okay?

  699. Then lastly, not every death penalty sin

  700. is reprobate, but there are some that cross all the way down

  701. to the very bottom of the barrel

  702. and it's just a reprobate sin, okay?

  703. So we have these different layers.

  704. Now, it's possible, I didn't think of everything.

  705. It's possible that there's other layers

  706. or other nuance or whatever.

  707. I just, I've spent a lot of time on this chart.

  708. I've tried to do my best.

  709. I think this is a very good representation

  710. of how we would classify things in the Bible

  711. and understand different scenarios

  712. and how we should respond.

  713. So then what I did is I basically took like

  714. some categories that are loosely related

  715. and kind of went down to try and talk about them, okay?

  716. So let's talk about relationship statuses

  717. because everybody's got a different relationship status, okay?

  718. We're gonna determine the relationship, okay?

  719. Isn't that the DTR talk

  720. or whatever ladies talk about or whatever?

  721. How does God view different relationship statuses, okay?

  722. Well, in my chart, at the very top,

  723. I have virgins who are faithfully married.

  724. That's about the best you could ever get, right?

  725. Isn't that ideal?

  726. What if I just get up

  727. and that's the only relationship status I ever talk about?

  728. Well, you need to be virgin

  729. and faithfully married to that virgin and that's it.

  730. How many people in America do you think

  731. fall into that category?

  732. Well, according to online statistics,

  733. it's like something like 97% or 98%

  734. of men commit fornication before getting married.

  735. Women, I think it's slightly less, okay?

  736. Then of that group,

  737. how many of those people have been completely faithful

  738. in that marriage, okay?

  739. I mean we're talking about a pretty small subset

  740. and you know what's really sad

  741. is you know what's making a big percentage of that?

  742. People like Mormons

  743. and some of these other groups as well.

  744. So it's not even necessarily fundamental Baptist.

  745. And let's just be honest about a church like ours.

  746. A church like ours, a lot of people

  747. were not even raised a fundamental Baptist

  748. or in a godly home.

  749. We've reached them through just going out there

  750. and so they've had a past, okay?

  751. So should we only ever preach this

  752. and never talk about any other scenario

  753. or any other situation, never address it?

  754. No, no, we shouldn't only talk about

  755. hey, me and my wife are virgin

  756. and we're perfectly faithful

  757. and that's the only thing I'm gonna bring up or address.

  758. No, there's other scenarios in the Bible, okay?

  759. How about people that are non-virgin and faithfully married?

  760. Well, that would be kind of the next best situation.

  761. Of people in this world of their relationship status,

  762. we want to preach that we want all of our young people

  763. to be like this.

  764. We want every one of our kids to be virgins

  765. who are faithfully married, isn't that what we want?

  766. But hey, what if they screwed up?

  767. Well, then we want them to still get married

  768. and be faithful, right?

  769. That's the next layer.

  770. They were non-virgin, but hey, at least they were faithful.

  771. And then it's like, okay, well, what's technically legal

  772. but not even close to perfect or next

  773. as far as relationship status?

  774. That'll be someone that was divorced lawfully,

  775. which is an interesting category,

  776. but look at Matthew chapter 19.

    Matthew 19 chapter mention

  777. And this is kind of an interesting clause that's brought up

  778. but in Matthew chapter 19, let's read in verse number four

    Matthew 19 chapter mention

  779. and he answered his son of them,

  780. have you not read that he which made them

  781. at the beginning made them male and female?

  782. He said, for this college shall a man leave his father

  783. and mother and shall cleave to his wife

  784. and they twain shall be one flesh,

  785. wherefore they are no more twain but one flesh,

  786. with the regarded twain together, let not man put asunder.

  787. So the question was, could you divorce for any reason?

  788. And Jesus is saying, well, God's put you together,

  789. so let's not put him asunder.

  790. The answer is just like, no, you shouldn't get divorced.

  791. Not only should it be not for any reason,

  792. it should just be never, like just never divorce, right?

  793. So what's ideal, what's perfect?

  794. God would say that a couple that gets married

  795. would never divorce for any reason.

  796. That's perfect, okay?

  797. What is actually lawful though, they bring this up

  798. and they say then, they say, and why did Moses

  799. then command to give a riding a divorceman

  800. and to put her away?

  801. He said unto them, Moses, because of the hardness

  802. of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives,

  803. but from the beginning it was not so.

  804. And I say unto you, whose service shall put away

  805. his wife except to be for fornication

  806. and shall marry another committed adultery

  807. and his will marry her which is put away,

  808. death committed adultery.

  809. So let's think about what he said.

  810. What is Jesus's view of should you divorce?

  811. Never, that's perfect, okay?

  812. Then he said, because of the hardness of your hearts,

  813. meaning you're not gonna do what's perfect,

  814. he gave one provision that's technically lawful

  815. to put away a wife for the cause of fornication.

  816. Which again, is a little bit confusing

  817. in our modern understanding because we have

  818. no fault divorce.

  819. In the Bible, the only reason you could divorce

  820. is if she said she was a virgin and she's not

  821. and then you can put her away after you have that discovery

  822. which is basically like an annulment more so

  823. than what we have as a divorce today.

  824. So it's more like an annulment, if anything.

  825. And it's saying if you got that divorce,

  826. that type of putting away, the biblical version

  827. which is more like an annulment

  828. and then you got remarried, there would be no sin.

  829. So it's lawful, it's lawful to have been married

  830. temporarily, found out that it was a fraud marriage

  831. and then get remarried, that is technically lawful.

  832. That's legal.

  833. But is that perfect?

  834. Is that ideal?

  835. Is that what God wants?

  836. Is that what God advocates for?

  837. No, God's perfect will is to never divorce for any reason.

  838. So as your pastor, that's what I preach.

  839. That's what I recommend.

  840. That's what I counsel people.

  841. I'm never saying, well, I know this is legal.

  842. So just do it.

  843. It's like, well, yeah, it is legal

  844. but this is what you should do.

  845. Now again, if someone said, well, is it a sin

  846. for me to put this person away

  847. if they lied about being a virgin

  848. and I caught them on my wedding night,

  849. can I perform this type of a putting away right now?

  850. Then I would say, well, that's technically lawful.

  851. That is not a sin, but that is not what God wants for you.

  852. God doesn't want you to have a heart and heart

  853. towards that person.

  854. God wants you to actually stay with this person

  855. and remain married.

  856. That's the perfect will of God.

  857. Okay.

  858. So we're understanding there's a difference here

  859. and think about it with Mary and Joseph.

  860. Joseph being a just man was gonna put her away privately.

  861. Now here's the thing.

  862. Justice is getting what you deserve.

  863. Justice is another word that we typically associate

  864. with the law or what's legal.

  865. Joseph's gonna give her what's legal.

  866. Joseph's gonna give her what's just,

  867. eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth,

  868. putting away for what she did.

  869. But what's the perfect will of God

  870. is to stay married to the person.

  871. Now again, that was with his understanding

  872. that she'd actually done something wrong.

  873. She didn't even do anything wrong.

  874. So he doesn't have to put her away

  875. because he has the understanding.

  876. But if he had done what was just,

  877. you could put them away.

  878. If you're gonna do what's merciful, well, again.

  879. And praise God that God is not a God only legality

  880. because if we got what we deserve,

  881. where would we go when we die?

  882. Hell, that's what we deserve.

  883. That's legal.

  884. That's what's justice.

  885. But you know what?

  886. God in his perfect will had Jesus die on the cross,

  887. pay all of our sins so that we could go to heaven

  888. and we could have an experience mercy.

  889. So mercy triumphs over justice.

  890. Mercy triumphs over the law and what we deserve.

  891. So what's the best decision?

  892. Never get divorced for any reason.

  893. What's technically lawful is for the case of fornication.

  894. So what else though, if you do get divorced though,

  895. and it's not for that particular exception,

  896. then it's a sin.

  897. Okay?

  898. It's wrong.

  899. It's not lawful.

  900. It's not legal.

  901. If you divorced your spouse

  902. and it's not that specific fornication clause,

  903. then it would be a sin.

  904. Okay?

  905. I put in this category of disputed

  906. because some people would argue,

  907. what about this scenario of a rapper bait?

  908. And this is why it's somewhat time to dispute it

  909. a little bit too,

  910. is because in first Corinthians chapter number seven,

  911. you have this provision of an unbeliever

  912. departs from you, you're no longer under bondage.

  913. Now I would interpret that as being,

  914. they divorce you basically.

  915. You have an unbeliever that doesn't want to be married

  916. to you, refuses to stay married to you

  917. and they personally put you away,

  918. then you don't have to necessarily fight that.

  919. Okay?

  920. You don't have to necessarily go to bat

  921. against that per se.

  922. But this is where it's disputed.

  923. I still say, even if you were married to a rapper bait,

  924. just stay married to them.

  925. You don't have to necessarily live with them.

  926. You don't have to necessarily be around them.

  927. But what's the point of getting a divorce

  928. is just so that you can then marry someone else

  929. or so that they can marry someone else

  930. and that's a sin.

  931. So why even put that on the table?

  932. Okay.

  933. Plus all you're gonna do is just give a lot

  934. of your assets to lawyers and stuff like that.

  935. Like, it's not like, oh, I get half the assets.

  936. Well, all the assets are yours when you're still married.

  937. Okay, so I personally don't think that you should.

  938. I'm not gonna throw stones at people

  939. that divorced an actual rapper bait

  940. and actual child molesting pedophile

  941. or something like that.

  942. But good people on both sides of this issue.

  943. All right?

  944. But if you divorce and it's not fornication,

  945. it's not that specific revision, then it's a sin.

  946. Now, what about church discipline?

  947. I have your fornication.

  948. Now, I'm not gonna prove every one of these

  949. for sake of time.

  950. First Corinthians chapter number five says

  951. if someone's committing fornication,

  952. they are gonna be church disciplined, okay?

  953. There is another thing though that I wanted to bring up.

  954. Go if you would to Deuteronomy chapter 21,

    Deuteronomy 21 chapter mention

  955. Deuteronomy chapter 21.

    Deuteronomy 21 chapter mention

  956. The Bible brings up the idea of two wives.

  957. Okay.

  958. Now, this is where atheists and people that hate the Bible

  959. will try to like throw stones like,

  960. oh, the Bible's saying you can have multiple wives.

  961. No, it's not saying you can have multiple wives.

  962. Okay.

  963. It's addressing a situation where someone has multiple wives.

  964. It's not saying here's God's perfect will, have two wives.

  965. Okay.

  966. First of all, the math doesn't really work.

  967. Have you ever noticed that there's like 50% men

  968. and 50% women generally speaking?

  969. How is it that everybody's gonna have quote, two wives?

  970. You know, if that was true,

  971. then you would have like some other ratio

  972. that God would be performing.

  973. But Deuteronomy, look at chapter 21 verse 15.

  974. If a man have two wives,

  975. does that sound like God's just saying have two wives?

  976. Or is he saying if?

  977. If a man happened to have two wives,

  978. one beloved and another hated,

  979. and they have born him children,

  980. both the beloved and the hated,

  981. and if the firstborn son be hers that was hated,

  982. then it shall be when he maketh his sons inherit

  983. that which he hath,

  984. that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn

  985. before the son of the hated,

  986. which is indeed the firstborn.

  987. But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated

  988. for the firstborn by giving him a double portion

  989. of all that he hath,

  990. for he is the beginning of his strength,

  991. the right of the firstborn is his.

  992. So according to the Bible,

  993. you have to still follow God's law,

  994. even when you didn't follow God's law.

  995. Okay, now I wanna prove this.

  996. Go if you would to Mark chapter number 10.

  997. I wanted to show you that there's two wives,

  998. but I believe that this is a sin.

  999. Having two wives is a sin.

1000. Go to Mark chapter number 10,

1001. and I'm gonna prove this to you.

1002. But the Bible says in verse number 11,

1003. and he saith unto them,

1004. whosoever shall put away his wife

1005. and marry another committed adultery against her.

  1006. Now think about this.

1007. If you're married and then you divorce your wife,

1008. so you're no longer married to her,

  1009. then you get remarried.

1010. The Bible says you're committing adultery

1011. against that wife that's been divorced.

1012. How much more would that be the case

1013. if she was still your wife?

1014. Okay, it would be silly to think like,

1015. well, it's adultery if you divorced her,

1016. but if you stay married to the first wife,

1017. it's now magically not adultery against her?

1018. Now obviously the Bible is helping you realize

1019. it was adultery to add another woman into your life

1020. and have a second wife, okay?

1021. So this is just another clear text to illustrate

1022. that all the polygamous relationships

1023. in the Old Testament were a sin,

1024. let alone the fact that every single situation

1025. is a train wreck, every single situation

1026. seems like a bad idea,

1027. and there's just horrible consequences to it.

1028. And you know, we live in America

1029. where we don't even have the ability to do that,

1030. but even if we did live in a society

  1031. that allowed for polygamy

1032. or allowed for this type of a situation,

1033. it would still be a sin.

  1034. It's still wrong.

1035. It's not something that you should do.

1036. Now notice a couple categories, okay?

1037. Notice legal, notice illegal, and then notice sin.

1038. Can you sin and it be legal?

1039. Yeah, that's how some of these categories work.

1040. So technically it could be legal

1041. somewhere in the world to marry another person,

1042. and yet it's still a sin, okay?

1043. Just like committing fornication in America,

1044. by and large it's legal, but that's still a sin, okay?

1045. So we wanna make sure that we have these categories

1046. kind of in our view of understanding

  1047. how we would differentiate.

1048. Now I do believe there's a type of fornication

1049. that crosses a criminal boundary,

1050. and that will be fornication with a virgin specifically.

1051. Go if you would to Exodus chapter 22.

    Exodus 22 chapter mention

1052. Go if you would to Exodus chapter 22.

    Exodus 22 chapter mention

1053. So again, fornication would be anything before marriage,

1054. that will get you church discipline,

1055. according to 1 Corinthians chapter number five.

1056. So that would be not only a sin,

1057. it's a sin that you could be church's one.

1058. We don't kick people out for sinning though.

1059. Then none of us could show up.

1060. And again, this is what people get mad, they say,

  1061. oh, I can't come to your church because I'm a drunkard.

1062. So then everyone shouldn't be able to go to church

  1063. because everybody's a sinner.

1064. It's just like, no, you're collapsing categories again.

1065. No, your sin is not welcome in church.

  1066. Not that I'm not a sinner,

1067. it's just that this particular behavior

1068. and attitude and lifestyle is not welcome in the church

1069. because it affects other people negatively.

  1070. And a little 11, 11's the whole lump.

1071. So we wanna make sure that,

1072. oh, you're saying that my sin's worse than yours.

  1073. Yes?

1074. Oh, I thought all sin was equal.

1075. No, see, there's so many false doctrines

1076. that we're destroying this morning, okay?

1077. All sin is equal is bad

1078. because it collapses all these categories.

1079. You know, I'll say, oh, this person committed murder.

1080. They deserve the death penalty.

1081. Well, no, no, no, because the Bible says

1082. for the wage is as soon as death, man.

1083. So we all deserve the death penalty.

  1084. Wrong.

1085. We don't wanna collapse all these categories.

1086. If that was true, then God wouldn't have said

1087. what he said in the Old Testament.

1088. He would have just said, every time someone sins,

  1089. cap them, you know?

1090. But he didn't because this is not what the Bible teaches.

1091. The reason why he has different punishments

1092. is because there's different layers of sin.

  1093. There's different levels, okay?

1094. So we wanna make sure we understand all these categories.

1095. So, you know, instead of being offended

1096. at the person saying your sin is worse,

1097. why don't you just realize your sin is worse

1098. and think, man, maybe I need to get ahold of myself

  1099. because I'm screwing up?

  1100. Yeah.

  1101. Yep.

1102. It's like there's a difference between driving five miles

1103. per hour over the speed limit

1104. and driving 50 miles per hour over the speed limit.

1105. Now, are they both a transgression?

1106. Yes, will they both get a ticket?

1107. Yes, but in many cases, you'll get a worse penalty,

1108. a worse ticket, if you're going that much faster

  1109. over the speed limit.

1110. And in fact, by going five over the speed limit in Dallas,

1111. you probably won't even get a ticket.

  1112. Yeah, yeah.

  1113. But that doesn't mean it wasn't a sin.

  1114. That doesn't mean it wasn't a crime, okay?

1115. In the same way that's like,

1116. you could commit fornication in America

1117. and no one's gonna come and do anything to you about it.

  1118. That doesn't mean it wasn't a sin.

1119. And so some people that are not very Christian

1120. or don't care about Christianity,

1121. they think if it's legal, it's not a sin.

1122. If it's illegal, it is a sin.

1123. It's like, no, we don't care about America's laws.

1124. We care about God's laws, okay?

1125. And we're not asking for the magistrate.

1126. We're not asking for America to police all sin.

1127. We want America to police this, you know?

1128. Can we just start here?

1129. Like just do this at the bare minimum.

1130. Let alone like this category, okay?

1131. We'll get to there in a minute,

1132. but this is following in this category.

1133. So we've been going down and talking about relationships.

1134. You know, virgins that are faithfully married,

  1135. that's perfect.

1136. People that have not been virgin,

1137. but they get married, they're faithful,

1138. that's the next best situation.

1139. Someone that had an annulment,

1140. they can still get remarried,

1141. and it's not the best, but hey, you know what?

1142. It was still not even a sin.

1143. People that got divorced or some rap or something,

1144. I'm not throwing stones at you.

1145. I kind of think you shouldn't have done it, but whatever.

1146. You got divorced and it wasn't for a legitimate,

1147. lawful clause of fornication, that was a sin.

1148. Sorry, and I'm gonna preach against that idea

1149. and say that was a sin.

  1150. You are committing fornication,

1151. you'll be kicked out of this church.

1152. If you're living together and you're not married,

1153. you will not be welcome in the church.

1154. Now again, if you're living together,

1155. like let's say we go out and get someone saved,

1156. and they're living together and they show up at church,

1157. I'm not kicking them out.

1158. They're not even a member of our church

1159. to get kicked out yet.

  1160. I can't kick you out because you're not even a member.

1161. Okay, so obviously that person

1162. is probably never gonna come back.

1163. Why do we have to worry about kicking them out?

1164. Okay, how about let's wait until they become a member

1165. before we even worry about kicking them out?

1166. Okay, and I get asked this question a lot.

1167. They're like, hey, this person,

  1168. I gotta say it's so winning a sinful,

1169. can we bring him in?

  1170. It's like, sure, but they're not a member.

1171. Okay, we're gonna church discipline people

1172. that are members of the church.

1173. Now, if you've been a member of this church for 10 years

1174. and you get caught, yeah, there's no cooling down.

1175. You're gonna be taken to task immediately

  1176. because you're already a member,

1177. you should have already known

1178. you're gonna be taken to task, right?

1179. Hey, what would be an illegal thing

  1180. that we're bringing up?

1181. Well, is if you commit fornication with a virgin.

1182. Exodus chapter 22, look at verse number 16.

    Exodus 22 chapter mention

1183. And if a man enticed a maid that is not betrothed

1184. and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife.

1185. If her father utterly refused to give her unto him,

1186. he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

1187. So according to the Bible,

1188. if a man were to lie with a virgin,

1189. then he is obligated if they get caught to marry her.

1190. But even if the father says,

1191. no, I don't want you to get married.

  1192. Let's say that's the reason,

1193. the only reason you don't get married

1194. is because the father says no,

1195. he could still exact the dowry from you

  1196. because you've defrauded him,

1197. you've defrauded her of this financial reward for that.

1198. And so he would have to pay this penalty.

1199. So if the guy's not paying,

1200. he could take him to the magistrate,

1201. take him to the judges,

1202. and the judges would say, you have to pay the dowry.

  1203. And so there's a criminality element,

1204. there's an illegal element, you have to pay this, okay?

1205. Now, if she was not a maid,

1206. well, there's no criminal element per se.

1207. But there would be a criminal element

1208. to taking someone's virginity and not marrying them.

1209. It's like, oh, I got caught committing fornication

1210. with this person, what am I supposed to do?

1211. You're supposed to marry them biblically.

1212. That's what the Bible says.

  1213. If you get caught,

1214. then you're supposed to betroth them,

1215. you're supposed to get married.

1216. The only exception would be if the father utterly refuses.

1217. I would say based on the whole of scripture,

1218. we have to understand that this context

1219. is marrying someone within the tribes of Israel.

1220. So obviously they're in view of someone

1221. that's in the same tribe,

1222. which is a spiritual application of someone that's saved.

1223. So I'd say the only other exception would be

  1224. that they're saved, okay?

1225. So if you get caught committing fornication

1226. and they're not saved and you can't get them saved,

1227. I would never say you should marry that person, okay?

1228. But if you can get them saved or they are saved,

1229. the only reason you shouldn't do it

1230. is because the father is utterly refusing.

1231. That's what the Bible says.

1232. Now some people don't like that.

1233. Some people don't wanna believe what I'm saying.

1234. I'm just telling you what the Bible says.

  1235. That's the perfect scenario.

1236. You get caught committing fornication, marry them, okay?

  1237. What's next?

  1238. Pay the dowry, okay?

1239. Well, that would be like legal, pay the dowry, all right?

1240. What would be a sin would be not marrying this person, okay?

1241. Just not even seeking that kind of a marriage would be a sin.

1242. I wanna go to another category, Leviticus chapter 21.

    Leviticus 21 chapter mention

  1243. There's a specific kind of fornication

1244. that actually results in the death penalty,

  1245. according to the Bible.

1246. Look at Leviticus chapter 21, look at verse number nine.

    Leviticus 21 chapter mention

1247. And the daughter of any priest,

1248. if she profane herself by playing the horror,

1249. she profaneth her father, she shall be burnt with fire.

1250. So a whore of a priest, you know,

1251. the daughter that commits fornication as a priest's daughter,

1252. that results in the death penalty.

1253. That's a serious punishment for that type of fornication, okay?

1254. Now, you know, we don't necessarily have

1255. a modern day example of that,

1256. but you should take it really serious.

1257. Hey, if your dad is a man of God,

1258. you better not go out and play the whore

1259. because God takes that really serious

1260. to make him look bad what you're doing.

1261. And again, it doesn't really like,

1262. obviously as fathers, we should do our best

1263. to protect our daughters, but at the end of the day,

1264. you know what, you can only do so much

1265. and at the end of the day,

1266. she's responsible for that action

1267. and she's put the death.

1268. The priest doesn't put the death.

1269. The priest, you know, looks bad obviously.

  1270. It makes him profane.

1271. People are gonna talk negatively about him

1272. as a result of that, but you know what?

  1273. She's the one that's punished.

1274. We don't punish parents for the sin of the child.

1275. Go to Deuteronomy 22, go to Deuteronomy 22.

1276. So how do we classify all these different relationships?

1277. Well, we just let the Bible tell us where they are.

1278. And we don't wanna pretend like they're all the same.

1279. We don't wanna pretend like every relationship status,

1280. every relationship is gonna be the exact same.

  1281. They're not.

  1282. Deuteronomy 22, look at verse 25.

1283. The Bible says, but if a man find a betrothed damsel

1284. in the field and the man force her and lie with her,

1285. then the man only that lay with her shall die.

1286. Now I'm not gonna read the whole,

1287. there's two more verses on this,

1288. but again, notice the death penalty

1289. for force of a betrothed woman.

1290. Okay, again, the modern versions

1291. will twist some of these passages

  1292. and start saying like,

1293. oh, well, you actually have to marry her

1294. if you get raped, it's like,

1295. that's not what the Bible says.

1296. That's not what the King James Bible says.

1297. We don't wanna collapse these weird ideas.

1298. Look, the Bible basically teaches,

1299. rape is met with the death penalty, okay?

1300. Specifically, it's bringing up a betrothed woman,

1301. but we could probably extrapolate beyond that.

1302. Lastly, we have the reprobate category.

1303. I don't even feel like I need to prove this point,

1304. but Leviticus 2013 says if a man lie with mankind,

1305. is he lie with a woman?

1306. Hey, we're gonna stone him to death, all right?

1307. It's that simple, he's put the death.

1308. That's not only death penalty, it's also reprobate.

1309. You could commit murder, not a reprobate,

1310. but you commit sodomy, well, it's both, okay?

1311. And we wanna make sure we understand those categories.

1312. And again, I would say that what's interesting,

1313. and you can think whatever you want,

1314. but this is why I think it's interesting, okay?

1315. If we were to look at an old IMB church,

1316. they basically get mad at us

1317. for each one of these layers,

1318. and each layer gets them a little bit more mad, okay?

1319. It's like, no one in the old IMB

1320. has mad at us for preaching this.

1321. No one gets mad at us for saying be a virgin

1322. and be faithful to your wife.

1323. I mean, who's getting mad at us for that?

1324. I'm saying old IMB, I'm not talking about the world.

1325. I'm talking about other Christians.

1326. Think about with me for just a second.

1327. Maybe you've never been to another Baptist church,

1328. maybe you've never been to another Southern Baptist church

1329. or another fundamental Baptist church,

1330. but those that have been there,

1331. like who's ever been to another church like that,

  1332. ever before, okay?

1333. All right, they don't get mad at us for that, do they?

1334. They don't even get mad at us for saying,

1335. hey, you screwed up, but you got married, you're faithful.

  1336. Good job.

1337. Now they start getting a little mad at us

1338. when we start saying that divorce

1339. is only lawful for fornication, though, don't they?

1340. Some of them will get mad at us for that,

1341. and they'll say, no, no,

1342. we also think there's other scenarios.

  1343. We also think abandonment,

1344. and we also think abuse,

1345. and we also think adultery,

1346. they just create all these other categories,

1347. and they get mad at our stance on this issue, okay?

1348. They get mad on our stance on church discipline, even.

  1349. I mean, there's a lot of churches

1350. that will not exercise church discipline

1351. the way that we do,

1352. and they get mad about it for railing.

1353. I mean, you bring up railing?

1354. They get mad and lose their mind about that,

  1355. and they act like,

1356. how dare you excommunicate someone for railing?

1357. We say certain things are illegal, you know?

  1358. They'll get mad.

1359. How about just our view on the death penalty?

1360. They really lose their mind on us getting up

  1361. and saying Leviticus 2013.

1362. They'll get mad at us for saying certain people

1363. should be put to death.

1364. And then the thing that just really

1365. irritates the fire out of them

1366. is saying that fags are reprobate, isn't it?

1367. Isn't it kind of interesting that as you go down

1368. this list, it's like they kind of get mad,

1369. really upset, frustrated, and lose their mind, okay?

1370. But it's like, that's what the Bible teaches.

1371. Sorry, you don't like these categories.

1372. Now again, I'm sure there's some people

1373. that would agree with us,

1374. but I'm just telling you,

1375. people love to collapse these categories

1376. because they don't wanna deal with these issues.

1377. And of course, when you deal with all these scenarios

  1378. and all these issues,

1379. people get mad because they'll be like,

1380. well, I have a cousin that's in this category.

  1381. Sorry.

1382. Well, I'm in this category,

1383. or I'm in this category,

1384. or I did this, or I did, you know?

1385. And so they get all mad about all these things,

1386. and that's why they wanna collapse them.

1387. And they wanna just collapse everything,

1388. or they only want everybody ever to preach this

1389. so we don't really shine any light

1390. on all these other categories and all these other levels, okay?

1391. But look, we should preach everything in the Bible

1392. and not just what you wanna hear.

1393. Go to Matthew chapter five,

1394. go to Matthew chapter number five.

1395. The law was added for transgressions.

1396. Wherefore serve of the law?

1397. It was added because of transgressions.

1398. So we're gonna explain to you what is the greater sin.

1399. We're gonna explain to you what is lawful

  1400. but not expedient.

1401. We're gonna tell you what's perfect and what's not.

1402. We're gonna tell you what gets kicked out of church

  1403. and what doesn't.

1404. We're gonna tell you what should be legal

1405. and what should not be legal.

1406. We're gonna tell you what should be put to death

1407. and what should not be put to death.

1408. Ah, well, we live in America.

  1409. I don't care.

1410. You know, it doesn't matter what nation we live in,

1411. the nations aren't important to God.

1412. You know what matters to God?

  1413. God's law.

1414. And God is mad at a nation that constantly says,

1415. well, this is what we do.

1416. Well, God's like, well, you should do what I do.

1417. Should do what I want.

  1418. That's what matters.

1419. Not whatever the law is.

1420. Now again, do we consider the law?

  1421. Sure.

1422. Is it something that we should also preach?

  1423. Yes.

  1424. But you know what?

  1425. It doesn't triumph God's law.

1426. So we should preach what God wants first.

1427. Matthew chapter five, look at verse 38.

1428. You have heard that it has been said

1429. in I for an eye and a tooth for a tooth

1430. but I say in you that you resist not evil

1431. but whosoever shall smite thee on the right cheek

1432. turn to him the other also.

1433. So again, notice in verse 39,

1434. the context or the essence is what?

1435. That you resist not evil.

1436. Now again, evil can mean two things in the Bible.

1437. It can mean wicked, morally wrong,

1438. or it can mean physical harm, injury.

1439. When it's saying here resist not evil,

1440. it's not saying do wicked now.

1441. Don't resist morally wrong stuff.

  1442. It's saying don't resist injury.

1443. Don't resist physical harm, okay?

  1444. That's what it's saying.

1445. Now I brought up the situation in this chart, okay?

1446. Of being slapped, all right?

  1447. Now let's just see.

1448. Is being slapped an ideal situation?

  1449. No, okay?

1450. But let's just say someone slaps you, okay?

1451. What would be, according to the Bible, the best response?

1452. What is Jesus saying you should do?

  1453. If someone slaps you,

1454. is there someone who wanna volunteer

1455. and also no one's kidding?

1456. I mean, I'm saying someone walks up

1457. and just slaps you on the cheek, right?

1458. What do you do according to the Bible?

1459. What is the perfect will of God?

1460. What does the Bible say?

1461. It literally says to turn the other cheek

1462. and offer the other cheek to be slapped.

  1463. I didn't write the Bible.

  1464. That's what Jesus said.

1465. He said don't resist evil.

  1466. He didn't say hide.

1467. He didn't say cover your face.

1468. He didn't say run away.

1469. He said offer the other cheek.

1470. Now at least Jesus is a little compassionate.

1471. He's like you don't have to get tapped twice

1472. in the same spot, right?

1473. He's like offer him a fresh wound.

1474. Offer him a fresh spot or whatever.

1475. But as he's saying, he didn't even say

1476. don't allow it to happen again.

1477. He said hey, let it even happen again.

  1478. Don't resist not evil.

1479. Turn to him the other cheek also, okay?

  1480. What would this mean?

1481. Again, obviously we have to take the literal interpretation.

1482. We could take application from this.

1483. What if someone came to you and said I need $20?

  1484. I'll pay you back.

1485. And you give them $20 and they don't pay you back.

1486. And then they come to you the next day and say hey man,

  1487. can I get $20?

1488. What is it, oh you would give them another $20.

1489. That's turning into the left cheek, isn't it?

1490. It's saying well, I already know he's not gonna pay me back.

1491. He didn't pay me back the first $20, right?

1492. I already suffered injury in this particular context

1493. but I'm willing to suffer injury again.

1494. Hey, I'm friends with this person

1495. and this person did me harm, this person did me wrong.

1496. I'm never gonna be their friend again.

1497. I'm not gonna hang out with them again.

1498. No, it says hey, allow them to harm you even again.

1499. That's what the Bible is saying, okay?

1500. But we can't also just ignore

1501. what would you do if someone literally slapped you.

1502. You would just say all right,

1503. well I'll even allow them to slap me again.

1504. Hey, I got another cheek if that's what is required,

1505. if that's what necessary, right?

1506. So ideally this would be that.

1507. What would be another step?

1508. This is not the perfect will of God.

  1509. I think it's totally reasonable

1510. if someone slaps you to just say hey,

1511. please don't slap me again.

1512. Doesn't that seem like a reasonable response?

1513. But is that the perfect will of God?

1514. The perfect will of God is to turn him the other cheek.

1515. I think there's a lot of other stages in between here

1516. but I'm just trying to give you a suggestion.

1517. I would say even just saying don't slap me

  1518. is reasonable.

1519. What would be the justice,

1520. what would be the legal ramification?

  1521. Well, that's what he's saying here.

1522. Did you notice in verse number 38?

1523. You have heard that it's been said in eye for an eye.

  1524. That's the just response.

1525. And if you go to the Old Testament,

  1526. that's what it teaches.

  1527. If someone slapped me,

1528. what is the lawful legal response

1529. to slap them back in the same way?

  1530. Right?

  1531. Slap for a slap.

1532. That would be the right response

1533. from a justice only perspective.

1534. But is that the best decision?

  1535. No.

1536. It would be better to just said,

  1537. please don't slap me.

1538. It would have been even better to offer the other cheek.

  1539. Okay.

1540. So let's just say someone slaps you,

  1541. turn the other cheek.

1542. Next best, just tell them not to do it.

1543. What's technically not a sin would be to reciprocate.

1544. Now go to Ephesians chapter four.

1545. Go to Ephesians chapter four.

1546. What would be crossing into boundaries

  1547. of sin though?

1548. Well, what if someone slaps you

1549. and instead of turning to the other cheek,

1550. what if you decide to get bitter towards that person

  1551. and hate that person

1552. and wish evil upon that person?

1553. Well, look at Ephesians chapter four

1554. and look at verse 31.

1555. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor

1556. and evil speaking be put away from you

1557. with all malice and be kind one to another,

  1558. tenderhearted, forgiving one another,

1559. even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven you.

1560. What is the right thing to do is to turn the other cheek,

  1561. which would mean what?

1562. You're not gonna be bitter.

1563. You're gonna let it go.

  1564. You're forgiving them, right?

1565. But what would be a sin?

  1566. Holding onto that bitterness,

1567. being unforgiving in that particular situation

1568. and having a negative attitude towards it.

  1569. So bitterness, hatred,

  1570. or probably an escalation

  1571. having a punishment that's beyond, right?

1572. They slap you, so you knife them,

1573. or you beat them down, right?

1574. You go like 10 times harder.

1575. It's like, if you slap me,

1576. well, then I'm gonna kick you in the groin.

1577. It's just like, whoa, that's an escalation.

  1578. That wouldn't be justified.

1579. It's not justified to escalate

1580. and go above what they did to you.

  1581. That would be unjust.

1582. That would be a sin.

1583. And if you physically injure them,

  1584. their eye or whatever,

1585. now you cross the legal boundary.

  1586. Now that's illegal

1587. and you would have to receive the same punishment.

  1588. That's why you don't wanna escalate.

1589. You know, when someone slaps you,

1590. you don't wanna then punch them

1591. because then they kick you

1592. and then now it just keeps escalating,

  1593. because it's just a vicious cycle.

1594. But if you do escalate,

1595. lawfully they get to match

  1596. whatever your escalation is.

1597. So if they slap you,

1598. you poke out their eye,

1599. they lawfully get to poke out your eye.

1600. You know, that's why you don't wanna go down this road.

1601. That's not the best response.

1602. What was the best response?

  1603. Turn the other cheek.

  1604. De-escalation, resist not evil.

1605. And of course, Jesus, didn't he take a lot of evil?

  1606. Didn't he get smitten

1607. when the Pharisees are accusing him of blasphemy?

  1608. He's sitting there,

  1609. they're asking him,

1610. art thou the son of the blessed?

1611. And he says, I am.

1612. And then they're smiting him,

  1613. they're hitting him.

1614. Should Jesus have just sat there

1615. and punched back or hit back

1616. or ran away or whatever

1617. or told him to stop?

1618. You know what he did?

1619. He turned on the other cheek, didn't he?

  1620. That's how Jesus was.

1621. That's how we would be.

  1622. And then obviously,

1623. if someone slaps you and you kill them,

1624. well, now you deserve the death penalty.

1625. Because that's not a justified reason to kill someone.

1626. Now, if you are in fear of your life,

  1627. you can defend yourself

1628. and if you end up killing them in the process,

1629. then it's justified and you're not worthy of death.

1630. But let me tell you something.

  1631. If someone slaps you,

1632. you will be found guilty of murder, okay?

  1633. Especially in God's law

1634. and you would be put to death

1635. for that particular scenario, okay?

1636. So again, I'm just trying to help

  1637. with these different situations.

1638. Well, but what if it's your husband that slaps you?

1639. Well, why does that change what we just learned?

  1640. Right?

1641. If your husband slapped you,

  1642. is that right?

  1643. I don't think so.

  1644. I mean, again,

1645. we have to understand the context,

1646. but I'm just gonna say, let's just say it was wrong.

1647. Let's just say for sake of argument,

1648. what the scenario brought into the case was totally wrong.

  1649. Okay?

1650. And I'll just be honest,

1651. I've never slapped my wife ever, okay?

1652. Honor, you know, face cheek, all right?

  1653. That's good.

  1654. It's a joke, folks, okay?

1655. Don't get too nervous, all right?

1656. I've never harmed my wife, all right?

1657. The worst punishment is tickling, okay?

1658. But I'm just saying, what if,

1659. because I don't have to only preach ideal,

1660. what about the people that live in the real world?

  1661. You don't think there's never been a husband

1662. that slapped his wife, whether it be just or unjust

1663. or whatever your personal opinion is about that?

  1664. Well, you know what?

1665. What would the wife do if she was gonna follow God's

1666. perfect will if she would turn to him the other cheek?

1667. Maybe she could say stop, right?

1668. Technically, according to God's law,

1669. she could just slap him back, okay?

1670. And we're talking about an unwarranted,

  1671. unjustified slap or something.

1672. We'll be a sin escalating beyond that, though.

1673. And see, here's where it gets really testy

1674. and people lose their mind, they get really mad,

1675. is it's like, well, I think she should call the cops

  1676. and get him arrested.

1677. Bro, that's way harsher than a slap, okay?

1678. And so, that would be, in my opinion,

1679. doing him evil, doing him wrong,

1680. and look, you bring the cops into your life situation,

1681. it's not gonna get better, okay?

1682. You wanna bring the cops in a situation

  1683. that's a life or death situation that's extreme.

  1684. That makes sense, okay?

1685. And no one's really arguing against this.

1686. No one's thinking that I'm being chased around

  1687. with a ax or a chainsaw,

1688. and please don't call the cops or something, okay?

1689. No one's saying that, no one's ever argued for that,

1690. but again, we're saying, hey, there are people

1691. in a church like ours where they could even do

  1692. some bad things, okay?

1693. Now, there's not people in our church

1694. chasing each other around with chainsaws and stuff.

1695. So you understand our context, our situation,

  1696. our world situation.

1697. Oh, but what are you talking,

1698. what about these people that are doing

1699. these crazy, weird things that would never happen?

1700. Look, there've already been church discipline

  1701. in those people, okay?

1702. Like, I'm not worried, what about this drug dealer

1703. that's getting drunk every night and beating up his wife?

1704. He's gonna be thrown out of church

  1705. because he's getting drunk!

1706. What are you talking about?

1707. Okay, these weird scenarios that people dream up.

1708. But again, I will defend this guy and say,

1709. hey, what will be the perfect will,

1710. even if it was wrong?

1711. Hey, turn him the other cheek.

  1712. Ask him to stop.

1713. Slap him back, you know?

1714. Call the cops on him?

  1715. You know, hell no!

  1716. Don't do that, okay?

  1717. And again, that's my,

1718. I'm just trying to help you understand

  1719. these categories, these situations.

  1720. People lose their mind.

1721. People get mad at me.

1722. I don't care if you get mad at me.

1723. You know, that doesn't bother me.

1724. Go over to Colossians chapter three.

1725. For sake of time, I'm just gonna,

1726. I'm just gonna kinda quickly go through a few of these.

1727. But what if your wife disobeys you, husbands?

1728. What would be the best thing you could possibly do

1729. if your wife disobeys you?

1730. Well, the Bible says to sanctify her,

1731. to wash her with the water of the word.

1732. You know what I think the best thing is?

1733. It's just tell her that she's wrong.

  1734. Just a verbal correction

1735. or just tell her what the Bible says

1736. or say, hey, please don't do that, right?

1737. Wouldn't that be the best thing to do

1738. if your wife disobeys you?

1739. What would be, you know, next would be,

1740. well, maybe you have to escalate

1741. to having some kind of a consequence for that.

1742. Right, it'd be ideal that you just tell her,

1743. don't do that, and then she just obeys, right?

1744. But maybe you have to escalate

1745. to some level of consequence.

  1746. Obviously, highly disputed,

1747. and I'm not gonna preach about it,

1748. but highly disputed is CDD.

1749. Now if you don't know what that is,

1750. look it up at your own risk, all right?

1751. I'm not saying I advocate for that as disputed, okay?

1752. But you know what would be wrong?

1753. It's for the husband to be bitter against his wife.

1754. That would be a sin.

1755. It would be a sin to be bitter against your wife.

1756. And Colossians chapter number three,

1757. look at verse number 19.

  1758. Husbands love your wives

1759. and be not bitter against them.

1760. Bitter implies there was a transgression.

  1761. There was a transgression.

1762. Instead of harboring that and hanging on to that,

1763. you should let it go.

1764. Best is usually, just tell them at least.

1765. Now again, we should, as husbands realize,

1766. our wives are never gonna be perfect.

  1767. They're never gonna obey us 100%.

1768. But you know what, for the most part,

1769. you know, women in a church like ours

1770. are the cream of the crop of society.

1771. You know, hopefully in 99% of situations,

1772. I mean, the verbal corrections always is gonna be,

1773. only thing that's necessary in theory, okay?

1774. Doesn't mean that she won't continue to screw up

1775. or do wrong or whatever or not be perfect.

  1776. But it's just like,

1777. you probably don't even need to go down these other roads.

1778. But you know what, there are some people

1779. in some messed up situations

1780. and there are some pretty rebellious wives

1781. and you know what, I'm not gonna usurp

1782. the authority of the man and say,

1783. if he has consequences for his wife

1784. or has to go to a little bit more,

  1785. a different measure that he's wrong.

1786. And I can defend him.

1787. Do I need to do that?

1788. No, have I ever done that?

1789. No, but you know what, at the end of the day,

1790. I'm not gonna get mad at guys for having to implement

1791. some kind of a consequence for their wife

1792. or some level of discipline, whatever that be.

1793. And again, when I use that word,

1794. I'm saying like telling her no,

1795. hey, taking away her social media account,

  1796. taking away her phone,

1797. you know, whatever kind of thing that you would do.

1798. There's all kinds of things that people implement

1799. at their own judgment level, their own perspective.

  1800. And you know what?

1801. I believe the husband is ever right to do that.

1802. If my wife was messaging other men on social media,

1803. you better believe that account's getting deleted

1804. by hook or by crook, you know.

  1805. Something's gonna happen.

1806. Something about to happen, you know what I mean?

1807. Like I'm not gonna just sit there and be like, nay.

  1808. Okay?

1809. Cause I just, you know, I'm jealous for my wife, you know.

1810. I'm not gonna allow that to happen.

  1811. That's a bad idea.

1812. Just like if my kids did, it would be the same.

  1813. Okay.

1814. Obviously, if you physically injure your wife,

1815. that would be illegal because the Bible says

1816. if you're knocking out an eye, a tooth,

  1817. whatever, those are crimes.

1818. If you kill your wife, it's a crime.

1819. You should be put to death, all right?

1820. Children, if they disobey Ephesians chapter six,

1821. look at Ephesians chapter six, we're pretty close to there.

1822. What would be the best thing?

1823. Tell them to obey and they do it, right?

1824. Ephesians chapter number six, look at verse number four,

1825. and your father's provoked not your children to wrath,

1826. but bring them up in the nurture

1827. and admonition of the Lord.

1828. What's the perfect ideal situation?

1829. Your child disobeys, you say, hey, don't do that.

1830. And they're like, yes, sir, and they don't do it,

  1831. right?

1832. But you know what, that's perfect.

1833. That's not gonna always be the case

1834. that they then obey and get it right.

1835. Sometimes you have to do something else

1836. that the Bible says, it's called

1837. bring out the rod of correction.

1838. Go to Proverbs 23, go to Proverbs 23.

1839. And the Bible says, as a commandment,

1840. thou shalt beat him with the rod.

1841. Look what it says, Proverbs 23, verse number 13,

1842. withhold not correction from the child

1843. for thou beatest him with the rod, he should not die.

1844. Thou shalt beat him with the rod

1845. and shalt deliver his soul from hell.

1846. The Bible says that we're supposed to punish them.

1847. So perfectly we can say, don't do it, and they just obeyed.

1848. But sometimes we have to escalate to a physical punishment,

1849. okay, and a physical discipline,

1850. which would be a beating with the rod.

1851. You could even have consequences.

  1852. And in Deuteronomy 21, what's legal

1853. is if your son is a stubborn or rebellious son

1854. and will not harken under the voice of the father

1855. and mother, and after you chastise them severely,

1856. you could put them to death.

1857. Now do we wanna start there?

1858. No, we start with admonishment.

1859. If that works, we're good.

1860. If it doesn't work, hey,

1861. now we're moving on to beating with the rod, okay?

1862. Then we could even have consequences.

1863. Then it's like, hey, well, according to God's law,

1864. you could put them to death.

  1865. We'll be wrong.

1866. We'll be an actual sin would be not spanking all the time.

  1867. That's the real sin.

  1868. Spanking is like here.

1869. Not spanking is here, okay?

  1870. Don't get those confused.

1871. It's like, oh, this parrot spanks, he's a bad parrot.

1872. No, the bad parrot doesn't spank.

1873. Right, right, right, right, yep.

  1874. Okay.

1875. Now if you cause physical injury,

1876. that would again cross this legal boundary.

1877. We're not saying we're gonna cause permanent damage

1878. or cause some kind of physical injury.

  1879. That would be wrong.

1880. You murder your kids, Lindsey Clancy.

  1881. You put to death.

  1882. That's right.

  1883. Okay?

1884. So what is, it's like, hey, tell your kids no.

1885. Spank them if you have to.

1886. If we live in a righteous society,

1887. put the really bad ones to death

1888. that won't listen to it, okay?

  1889. Who's the bad parrot?

1890. The ones that won't spank and discipline their kids.

1891. And then obviously if they're injuring them,

  1892. that's a penalty, that's a crime.

1893. If they're killing them, we put them to death.

1894. But we have such a backward society

1895. that we're giving millions of dollars to this person, okay?

1896. We're giving millions of dollars to this person

1897. and we're demonizing and making documentaries

  1898. hating this person.

  1899. It's insane.

1900. It's an insane world we live in.

  1901. I'm out of time.

1902. But you could read the rest on your own,

  1903. some fun reading.

1904. But again, first Corinthians seven says,

1905. hey, when it comes to a marriage relationship,

1906. you're supposed to show due benevolence to each other.

1907. Ideally, in a marriage, the door's always open.

  1908. It's water burger, it's 24 seven, okay?

1909. In and out closes, did you know that?

  1910. It's not perfect, water burger's 24 seven, okay?

  1911. That's perfect.

1912. What would be next in line?

1913. Would be sometimes you have to use,

1914. it's a required level of romance or something

1915. for the door to be opened.

  1916. It's like, well, I'm for a romance 100% of the time,

1917. but you know what, the door should always be open too.

1918. It shouldn't require it, but hey,

1919. if my wife required it, I'm gonna show it, okay?

  1920. And is that perfect?

  1921. No.

1922. How about if that was a problem in my marriage,

1923. make it a bargain, like hey, I'll rub your back

1924. or we'll go out to dinner or whatever.

1925. Now again, America, some women will use this

1926. as a weapon against their husband, wrong, okay?

1927. Don't do that, but I'm just saying,

1928. if I was in this situation, that's what I would try.

1929. Then there's duty over reluctance,

1930. hey, if it's been six months or a year

1931. and a guy just based in St. Adam,

1932. care if you're that interested,

1933. meaning to do this because it's our marital duty,

1934. I'm not gonna throw the guy in jail, okay?

1935. Some people wanna throw that guy in jail

  1936. and they're insane.

  1937. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

1938. In the words of Cassandra McMurtry,

1939. if you have a marriage certificate,

1940. you already got consent, all right?

  1941. So there you go.

1942. Hey, what would be a sin, ever telling them no?

1943. Or not doing it, or committing some kind of an adultery

  1944. in your heart, right?

1945. But if you commit physical adultery, definitely.

1946. You know, and again, I don't need to necessarily

1947. go to the other one, but you could read it,

1948. but hey, what's the point of the sermon?

1949. The point of the sermon is we should realize

1950. that not everybody's in an ideal situation

1951. and not everybody's gonna do the ideal thing.

1952. So as a pastor, I'm gonna preach all these categories

1953. and I hope by this preaching this sermon,

1954. let this seek in a little bit

1955. so that when you're preaching you can try to think like,

1956. oh, where is pastor putting this?

1957. Hey, where is the Bible putting this?

1958. Where would I put this?

1959. And you know, we want, hopefully that all lines up, okay?

1960. I get that there could be some things that are disputed.

1961. And hey, if you think that I made a mistake,

1962. come show me, I'm not saying that this is perfect.

1963. I tried to do my best.

1964. I spent a lot of time trying to make sure

1965. that my categories were, you know,

1966. my placement was pretty accurate for the most part.

1967. But you know, hey, that's the goal.

  1968. That's why we're coming to church.

1969. We're trying to figure out what does God

1970. want me to do in my life?

1971. Hey, what do I do in this sinful situation?

1972. What do I do to make up for this situation?

1973. That's why we go to church.

1974. So we're trying to figure out these things together.

1975. And we that live here, let's say you live here,

1976. don't sit here and get mad about the pastor

1977. talking about this guy or this guy or this situation.

1978. We all need the word of God

1979. and we all need our situations addressed.

1980. And I'm so happy for you and your perfect marriage

  1981. where you've never fought

1982. and you've never called each other a name

  1983. and you've never had a problem

  1984. and your husband's a perfect leader.

1985. But you know what, for the rest of us,

1986. we want to know what to do.

1987. And don't get mad at us telling these people

  1988. what to do too.

1989. And what their scenario should be

1990. and defending this guy and defending this guy

1991. and figuring out how to help those people too.

1992. Because you know, we should condescend

1993. to men of low estate and we should help everybody

1994. as best we can, except for these people, okay?

1995. We don't pray for these people, right?

  1996. We get it though.

1997. We have the right categories.

1998. Okay, and you know what,

1999. realize there's gonna be churches that hate this list.

2000. You know, I want to go to a church

  2001. that likes this list

2002. and is trying to preach this kind of a list.

2003. Preaching the, not just the ideal, but the real.

2004. Not just the ideal, but the real.

  2005. Let's go in prayer.

2006. Thank you Heavenly Father so much

2007. for giving us the Bible

2008. so that we can understand how to live our lives.

2009. How not only do we make the perfect decisions,

2010. but what we do when we screw up.

2011. When we find ourselves in a rock and a hard place,

2012. when we find ourselves in a situation

2013. where we've been transgressed against,

  2014. where we have problems,

2015. where we have issues where

2016. we don't like our circumstances.

2017. I thank you that you give us instruction,

2018. that you give us grace,

2019. that you help us to remedy.

2020. I pray that you would help our church

2021. to have a heart to want to know

2022. what the perfect will of God is

2023. and to try our best to achieve it.

2024. But also realize there's grace

2025. and to help those that are not

  2026. making the best decisions

2027. and to love those people

2028. and to be patient with those people

2029. and that we would care what the Bible says

  2030. about every scenario

2031. we wouldn't be offended in Jesus' name we pray.

  2032. Amen.
