  1. Amen. So we're continuing our series, The Grind. How many

  2. of you feel it yet? Your kids have been back

  3. in school for a whole week. Now you're exhausted because

  4. you've been having to get up and cook breakfast and

  5. do all those things and trying to get them in

  6. bed and they don't want to go to bed and

  7. you know, the whole deal. It's just that summer's starting

  8. to come to an end and it's just, I mean,

  9. it's been hot. It's just wearing you out and you

  10. just feel like, wow, this is just a hard, a

  11. hard season. This is the grind of life. That's what

  12. we're trying to talk about. That you would find value

  13. and purpose not in the extravagant moments of life, but

  14. in those ordinary moments of life because God created those.

  15. just as precisely and just as powerfully as he did

  16. the others. If you've got a Bible, go to Exodus

    Exodus 31 chapter mention

  17. chapter 31. Exodus chapter 31. We're going to start reading

    Exodus 31 chapter mention

  18. in verse 1. Exodus 31, 1. It says, Then the

  19. Lord spoke to Moses, saying, See, I've called by name, Bezalel,

  20. son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah.

  21. And I have filled him with the Spirit of God,

  22. Underline that if you've got a good old paper Bible. Underline,

  23. I have filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom,

  24. in understanding, in knowledge, in an all manner of workmanship

  25. to design artistic works, to work in gold and silver

  26. and bronze, in cutting jewels for setting and carving wood,

  27. and to work in all manner of workmanship. This passage

  28. of Scripture is the first time in the entire Bible,

  29. as we have read, that God says he filled someone

  30. with his spirit. Now we read other places where people

  31. were filled with the spirit.

  32. We see that in Joseph's life. It says that he

  33. was filled with God's spirit, but there was no defining moment.

  34. This is the first time where God says, I filled

  35. him with my spirit for this purpose. for the purpose

  36. of being an elite craftsman to work with his hands. Now,

  37. here's the extraordinary thing that I want you to understand.

  38. The first time he says that he was filling someone

  39. with his spirit, it wasn't a prophet.

  40. Amen? It wasn't a king.

  41. It wasn't someone set apart to do one of those

  42. kind of works and that kind of ministry. He set

  43. that person apart. He filled them with the Spirit for

  44. the purpose of doing a job that they would have

  45. an end result that would glorify God because of the

  46. excellence and the quality with which he performed it. He

  47. didn't first say, I'm filling a preacher with the Word

  48. of God because let me be honest with you. I

  49. don't come into contact with the people you come into

  50. contact with.

  51. I don't have access to the people. I work at

  52. a church. Come on, somebody.

  53. Most of the people I'm around are saved already. And

  54. it wears me out. I don't mean necessarily y'all wear.

  55. Yeah, I do mean that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I do

  56. mean that.

  57. Yeah, so it wears me out because one of the

  58. things I love to do the most is to talk

  59. about Jesus.

  60. I love talking about Jesus.

  61. I love looking for an opportunity to start a conversation

  62. wherever I am about Jesus. However I can lead into that,

  63. some way, sometimes very awkwardly, I just force that conversation.

  64. Amen? I love to do that.

  65. But the reality is the most of the people that

  66. I reach are in this room. Most of the people

  67. that I reach and I spend time with on a

  68. daily basis.

  69. They're already saved. They already know the Lord.

  70. And the things that I do are more towards an

  71. audience that already knows him. As a matter of fact,

  72. God designed it that way. God designed the local church

  73. to have church.

  74. Let me say that again.

  75. The most important thing the local church can do is

  76. to have church.

  77. Now there's lots of other things we.

  78. Do, but for so long the modern church has been

  79. focused on trying to build something so that people would

  80. come and see what we do. They would just come

  81. and and see us perform on a stage, and hopefully

  82. the right people would show up at the right time,

  83. and we'd preach the right sermon, sing the right songs,

  84. that Holy Spirit would get involved and draw somebody's heart,

  85. and they would come to an altar, and they would

  86. pray a prayer, and they would get saved, and we're

  87. getting to baptize two people today.

  88. Come on, somebody. What a day. But you know what?

  89. That's not what the church is for. As a matter

  90. of fact, the Bible says fivefold ministry, apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor,

  91. and teacher are to prepare the saints for works of service.

  92. That this is the place where training happens so that

  93. you are filled with the Spirit and what God has

  94. touched your hands and your life and given you the

  95. wisdom to do impacts the people in the world. But

  96. I think sometimes what happens in the world, we feel

  97. like it's so insignificant. We feel like we're not making

  98. a difference. We're not making an impact. And that's what

  99. makes it feel like we're just trying to grind out.

  100. The day until we go to bed.

  101. We're just trying to survive the kids.

  102. Come on, somebody. We're just trying.

  103. Listen, when your kids are acting crazy, I had kids.

  104. I know what crazy kids are.

  105. Come on.

  106. Listen, I raised two daughters. I raised one that I

  107. thought was in training to be Mother Teresa. I'll raise

  108. one that I thought was in training to be a

  109. cage fighter. I'm not going to put names behind those.

  110. Y'all just have to figure it out yourself. I know

  111. what those temper tantrums look like. I know what those

  112. things look like. And it's almost like we.

  113. Just say, let's just go home. Let's just pack.

  114. That up to go. We're just going to go home.

  115. What if you just Jesused through that?

  116. What if instead of.

  117. Just packing it up and giving it up, that in

  118. the moment of the grind, when things got hard, you

  119. just showed a little extra grace. You just paid a

  120. little more attention. And that person that's sitting over there

  121. waiting on you, I don't know, maybe you do wear

  122. them out.

  123. That's between you and God. I mean, that's just... Sometimes works.

  124. Come on now. That's between you and God.

  125. What... But those people that are watching because attention has

  126. been gathered, they see the anointing in your life because

  127. God has filled you with the Spirit to parent children

  128. who will grow up to be world changers. And it

  129. impacts their lives because they see the anointing to be

  130. a parent on your life. And they can't have the

  131. patience you have. And they start asking the question, why

  132. we're living.

  133. Why were they able.

  134. To operate like that, but I can't operate like that?

  135. It must be something different. And then they start listening

  136. to you talking to the waitress.

  137. About Jesus.

  138. They hear you invite her to church. They see you

  139. praying and they start putting some dots together. And they say, oh, wow,

  140. maybe there is something to this God thing. Maybe there

  141. is some kind of empowerment that happens in everyday life.

  142. Or maybe you work on a job and it's just

  143. like monotonous. Let's just, I mean, your job, you just

  144. feel like it's just monotonous sometimes.

  145. Raise your hand.

  146. It's just like, and you go and you're just trying

  147. to like get survive. Just trying to get to the

  148. end of the day. What if you understood that God

  149. filled you with the Spirit of God? So that you

  150. couldn't just get through the day, but you could be

  151. so full of joy, so full of purpose and focus,

  152. that people see that in your life and they're like, listen,

  153. last week, Last week, they were hating this place just

  154. like I was. And now all of a sudden, there's

  155. something different. There's something that's changed. There's something significant about

  156. the way that peace has settled on their life. And

  157. I need to have a conversation.

  158. And they slide up next to you at the break room.

  159. And they're like, hey, I just, you know, what's different?

  160. What's different? What's different?

  161. And you just look at him and say, you know what?

  162. I finally realized that I've been waiting to find out

  163. what God's called me to do. I've been waiting to

  164. find out what difference I can make. I've been waiting.

  165. I've been waiting for this big monumental moment, this thing

  166. to happen. And I realized that you are that monumental moment,

  167. that this place is that monumental moment, that God can

  168. bless this place through the anointing on my life. And

  169. then the owner is going to seek Jesus.

  170. Y'all don't have to clap. It's okay. If you don't

  171. feel it, don't do it.

  172. I mean, it's okay.

  173. Every day, every day is why God filled you with

  174. his spirit.

  175. Some of you have been waiting for years, been waiting

  176. for years just to get your opportunity.

  177. To get behind a pulpit and preach a sermon.

  178. Amen. You're like, oh, if I only get that chance,

  179. if I can only get that chance, if I can

  180. only get that chance. and you've wasted every sermon for

  181. every day because a lot of times I think to

  182. myself if I could just go to a place where

  183. I would get locked in the building with people that

  184. don't know Jesus and they couldn't get away because they

  185. punched a clock and they got to listen to me

  186. for eight hours they got to see me for eight

  187. hours I could make a real difference in the world

  188. The grass is always greener on the other side. Most

  189. of the time it's greener over the septic tank though,

  190. just so you know. In Acts chapter 6 verse 1,

    Acts 6:1

  191. it says, Now in those days when the number of

  192. the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the

  193. Hebrews by the Hellenists because their widows were neglected in

  194. the daily distribution of food, of resources. That's what we're

  195. talking about here. It's They weren't being fed. They weren't

  196. having resources distributed to them. There's an argument broke out.

  197. So they come to the people in charge.

  198. Come on now. They came to Pastor Clay.

  199. And they're like, hey, that wall ain't built right. I

  200. know some of y'all thought that, but it is. That

  201. wall is built right. That wall, that floor holds me up.

  202. If it holds me up, it'll hold any of y'all up.

  203. Come on now.

  204. I've jumped up and down on every single piece of

  205. new construction.

  206. It holds, baby.

  207. It holds.

  208. It holds.

  209. Verse 2, then the twelve summoned the multitude of the

  210. disciples and said, it's not desirable.

  211. Because the widows were neglected in the daily distribution.

  212. Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said,

  213. it's not desirable that we should leave the word of

  214. God and serve tables. Therefore, brethren, seek out from among

  215. you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy

  216. Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over the business.

  217. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, to the

  218. ministry of the word. And the same pleased the whole multitude.

  219. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and

  220. the Holy Spirit. So listen, here's the thing. We are

  221. trying to train the saints for works of service. And

  222. this issue, there's other people that are very equipped to

  223. do that.

  224. And we want them to do that. We want them

  225. to do that.

  226. And they went out and they found these people, not

  227. just Stephen. They found the people. And it says that

  228. Stephen was a man of faith. He was full of

  229. the Holy Spirit. And he was anointed. And he started

  230. working in the distribution of food.

  231. Now watch this.

  232. He didn't preach that first sermon on the day of Pentecost.

  233. He didn't do that.

  234. He didn't get called into the Sanhedrin. He didn't do that.

  235. He worked at the food pantry. Come on, somebody. He

  236. worked at the food bank.

  237. He worked at the important ministry of taking care of widows.

  238. And the Bible says that that's pure and undefiled ministry.

  239. That's pure and undefiled religion. Take care of the widows

  240. and the orphans. So he was doing the real work

  241. of ministry. He was doing the hands-on work of ministry.

  242. And do you realize that this man who didn't preach

  243. the first sermon, he wasn't laying hands on the multitudes.

  244. He wasn't starting a revival. He was working in the

  245. daily distribution of food. And he so stirred the devil

  246. up that he was the very first martyr of Christendom.

  247. He was the very first person that gave his life

  248. for Jesus. Doing the work in the middle of the grind,

  249. a hundred degrees, and he was pushing the carts out.

  250. He was pushing the carts full of groceries out to

  251. people's cart.

  252. Now, I know they didn't have cars.

  253. I'm making a modern day application to a yesterday.

  254. Pushing it out there.

  255. The devil got mad because now people were getting taken

  256. care of. There was now no complaints because the church

  257. was doing what the church.

  258. Was supposed to do. Got mad.

  259. He has this experience and they start stoning. Listen, they

  260. start stoning him.

  261. And he looks into heaven.

  262. And Jesus himself appears, the sky rolls back, and he

  263. speaks to him. And there is such a powerful moment

  264. of God right there that people are captivated by. And

  265. the kingdom of God grew because someone in the middle

  266. of the grind was so sold out to what God

  267. had called them to do that it made an impact

  268. on people around them.

  269. God is not.

  270. Listen, stop waiting for whatever you think it is that's

  271. big that you're supposed to do with your life because

  272. serving in the grind will make a bigger.

  273. Difference than you could ever imagine.

  274. In Matthew 5, starting in verse 13, He says, You

  275. are the salt of the earth, but if the salt

  276. loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is

  277. then good for nothing but to be thrown out and

  278. trampled underfoot by men.

  279. You are the light of the world.

  280. A city that's set on a hill cannot be hidden.

  281. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under

  282. a basket, but on a lampstand and it gives light.

  283. To all who are in the house. Let your light

  284. so shine.

  285. Before men that they may see your good works and

  286. glorify your Father in heaven.

  287. He says, you're the salt, and if you stop being salty....

  288. Now, I know that means something different now. Some of

  289. y'all are too salty, and that's your problem. But you

  290. start losing your flavor.

  291. Your flavor.

  292. Because everything becomes common. Everything is average. Everything is everyday.

  293. And you don't treat.

  294. Those moments like they're sacred. You don't look for Jesus

  295. in the mundane. You don't look for Jesus in that

  296. moment where people are watching you, where you have an

  297. opportunity to lead by faith, to lead by peace, to

  298. lead by whatever. You don't look for those opportunities. And suddenly,

  299. it just seems common. And everybody's just kind of looking

  300. at you like, well, you know what?

  301. They go to church, but... I don't need to go

  302. to church.

  303. I just sleep late on Sunday because obviously they don't

  304. have anything I don't have. Let me show you what

  305. is not a good Christian witness.

  306. When you walk in every day, just like broke down.

  307. Hold on. And you're like, oh, devil just beating me up.

  308. I just, oh, devil's on me. Whew. I'm living for Jesus.

  309. Glory to God, I'm living for Jesus. People already feel

  310. like that. People already feel like that.

  311. Why would they want to add another layer by you

  312. modeling that this is.

  313. What it means to be a follower of Jesus?

  314. A Christian witness is that the devil's on top of you.

  315. And you walk in. And somebody walks up to you

  316. and says, hey, I heard what's going on. Heard what's

  317. going on.

  318. I just want to check on you, make sure you're okay. Hey,

  319. I appreciate that. You know what?

  320. I'm doing good because the Holy Spirit has anointed me

  321. for this moment and he has surrounded me with his

  322. favor and his presence and I'm going to be okay

  323. because his peace is alive and well in me and

  324. he's already giving me wisdom and he's already guiding me

  325. and he's already leading me.

  326. Do you have that same assurance?

  327. Listen, the devil is going to aggravate you every day

  328. of your life. Every day of your life. Listen, I

  329. got here this morning. I walked in and I was fine.

  330. And I walked in the building and I thought, you

  331. know what? I probably just need to drive back home

  332. and get back into bed. I feel tired. People are

  333. going to complain because the plastic and got to walk around.

  334. Something's going to be broken. I just, I'm just going

  335. to call Pastor Clay and just get him to preach.

  336. I felt like that. I never turned the steering wheel though.

  337. Because here's the thing.

  338. Jesus shines brighter through me in my weakest, most exhausted,

  339. most fatigued moments than he does at any other time.

  340. Because he's God. And when I'm weak, he is strong. Amen.

  341. And when you're going through the motions and you're not

  342. activating him in your life, nobody sees him. But when

  343. you take your life off cruise control and you realize

  344. that this moment right now where I'm at is anointed

  345. by God, he has positioned me in time and space

  346. to be here to make a difference that I was

  347. born for such a time as this. Then it changes

  348. your attitude and the anointing and you no longer measure

  349. the spiritual condition. You change the spiritual condition of your surroundings.

  350. And you're like, well, listen, I tell people about Jesus

  351. all the time. They fired me.

  352. Good.

  353. And watch this.

  354. God will get his vengeance on someone who persecuted you

  355. for being a believer and he will elevate you because

  356. of the witness that you took. Now, he may not

  357. do it in your time, but he will do it

  358. because he is faithful to do the things he says

  359. he will do. Clay, you guys can come and get ready.

  360. Pastor Clay, you guys can come and get ready. You know,

  361. sometimes I just call him Clay because we've been together

  362. for so long.

  363. Like a son. We spend a lot of.

  364. Time together and sometimes I say that, but I want

  365. to assure you that he has most definitely earned the

  366. right to be called pastor. And I want to show

  367. honor in that. I want to show honor in that

  368. because God has certainly got his hand upon him and

  369. has ordained him. And I don't mean to diminish his

  370. role by sometimes.

  371. Using his first name.

  372. It's more like because he's my son, not because I

  373. don't recognize the immense calling and gifting and anointing on

  374. his life. 2 Corinthians 5, verse 16.

    2 Corinthians 5:16

  375. Says, Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according

  376. to the flesh.

  377. Even though we've known Christ according to the flesh, yet

  378. now we know Him thus no longer.

  379. Therefore, if anyone is.

  380. In Christ, if anyone anyone is in Christ, that means you.

  381. Doesn't matter how beat up you feel.

  382. How neglected you feel, how insignificant you feel.

  383. None of those things. If anyone is in Christ, He

  384. is a new creation. Old things have passed away.

  385. Behold, all things have become new.

  386. Now all things are of God who has reconciled us

  387. to Himself through Jesus Christ and has given us the

  388. ministry of reconciliation. That is that God was in Christ

  389. reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to Him.

  390. And has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

  391. He says, this is how valuable you are, is that

  392. I have committed to you the word of reconciliation that

  393. through your actions.

  394. And your words, I will restore.

  395. Fallen man to holy God by the power of Holy Ghost.

  396. That's not insignificant.

  397. That the creator of the universe chooses to use you.

  398. You.

  399. That of all the plans he could have used.

  400. He could send down an angel every day at noon

  401. to a different city.

  402. They could blow a few buildings up and say, repent. Repent.

  403. work better than using me.

  404. He could do it faster. That's not God's plan. God's

  405. plan is to use you. The most significant, gifted, and

  406. anointed person at His disposal.

  407. For that task. That's who you are.

  408. That He has placed you with those people because you're

  409. the right level of salt and you're the right level.

  410. Of light and He's using you.

  411. To draw people to Himself.

  412. It's not a grind.

  413. It's ministry.

  414. It's not mundane. It's the kingdom. It's the kingdom. It's

  415. not just another day.

  416. It's the opportunity to make a difference in the world

  417. as we know it.

  418. And it rests right here. All around us. All the time.

  419. You know maybe you're here. You've never asked Jesus to

  420. forgive you of your sins and be.

  421. The Lord of your life.

  422. You don't understand this significance because you don't know Jesus.

  423. Or maybe at one point you tasted of the Lord

  424. and you know what that relationship is like, but over

  425. time you've allowed sin, you've allowed distance, indifference to come

  426. between you and Him and you don't have that strong,

  427. thriving relationship that you once had.

  428. But you want it back because.

  429. You want to be a.

  430. Broker of significance. To be used in the hands of God.

  431. To change the world around you.

  432. This is that moment.

  433. If you would, everybody stand with me all over the building.

  434. If you're here today and you'd say, Pastor, I've never

  435. asked Jesus to.

  436. Forgive me of my sins. I feel the Holy Spirit

  437. draw in my heart.

  438. Or maybe you're here and you would say, you know what,

  439. I've prayed that prayer. But I've allowed things to come

  440. between me and Him and I don't.

  441. Feel the closeness. I don't feel that passionate relationship that

  442. I've once had.

  443. Either of those is you.

  444. I ask Him to forgive me for the very first time.

  445. Or restore that relationship with me. Just slip your hand

  446. up and say, that's me, Pastor.

  447. That's why I want every eye open, every head looking right.

  448. That's me.

  449. I want to.

  450. Amen.

  451. Is there somebody else?

  452. Now here's the thing about Cornerstone Tabernacle that I know.

  453. Two things.

  454. Number one, we operate as the family of God. If

  455. you're in this place, you're loved. Number two, we operate

  456. as the army of God. And if you're in this

  457. place and you need something, we'll go to war for you.

  458. So if you're here and say, you know what, that's me.

  459. I just need to, I need that fresh touch, that

  460. relationship restored. Just put your hand up, put it right

  461. by that.

  462. Say, that's me, Pastor.

  463. Pray for me. Pray for me.

  464. Amen.

  465. Amen.

  466. Amen. Some of my altar team, come.

  467. Some of my altar team, come.

  468. I'm going to count to three.

  469. And if you raised your hand, or if you didn't

  470. and now you realize you should have, When I count

  471. to three, I want you to step out and move.

  472. Don't look to see if anybody else is moving. This

  473. is between you and God. This is your moment for

  474. that fresh, new relationship. Kindled, fresh, white hot. When you

  475. take that first step, you're going to begin to feel

  476. His Spirit rolling right in here somewhere. On the count

  477. of three.

  478. Step out and move.

  479. One. Two.

  480. Three, step out and move right now.

  481. Come on, where are you? If you raise your hand,

  482. come on. If you didn't raise your hand, but you

  483. should have.

  484. Come on. Come on. Come on.

  485. Come on. Come on.

  486. Come on. Come on. Come on.

  487. Come on.

  488. Come on.

  489. Come on.

  490. I know there's more. Come on.

  491. Come on.

  492. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. The altars

  493. are open. Pastor Clay, let's sing.
