  1. Amen and amen.

  2. Mark chapter 6 verse 30. Mark chapter 6 verse 30.

    Mark 6:30 Mark 6:30

  3. If you've got a Bible, turn there. We're going to

  4. continue in our series, The Grind. You know, a lot

  5. of times when we lay our messages out, the origin

  6. of these messages start a year in advance. So when

  7. we started laying out and started planning our sermon series

  8. and everything, it was last, Jeff, I don't remember, October

  9. or November, one of those. I don't remember what month

  10. it is. We're more than four days away, right? So

  11. I don't remember anymore. And I opened up my notes

  12. and I started looking at them last night and I

  13. just laughed because today we're talking about fatigue.

  14. And I feel tired. Amen.

  15. And God has just planted that just so timely, I think,

  16. to minister to my heart as much as yours.

  17. Amen.

  18. So if you've got a Bible, Mark chapter 6, verse 30.

    Mark 6:30

  19. We've already read this in this series one time, but

  20. I wanted to revisit it.

  21. Mark 6, verse 30.

    Mark 6:30

  22. It says, Then the apostles gathered to Jesus and told

  23. him all things. both what they had done and what

  24. they had taught. And he said to them, come aside

  25. by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.

  26. Underline that, rest a while.

  27. For there were many coming and going and they did

  28. not even have time to eat. So they departed to

  29. a deserted place in the boat by themselves. You know,

  30. what's happening is this is really the first commissioning. Jesus

  31. had sent the apostles out to do ministry, not just

  32. side by side with him. They're actually going out in

  33. the name of the Lord. They're going out there. They're

  34. doing ministry. They're performing miracles. They're casting out demons. There's

  35. all kinds of things happening. They're setting up. According to traditions,

  36. they're setting up different ongoing ministries, food distribution, all of

  37. those things in the surrounding area. And they come back

  38. to Jesus and they're telling him how everything that they've done,

  39. everything that happened. You know, when preachers get together, we

  40. like to talk about everything that happened. Listen, when I talk,

  41. when I call one of my buddies tomorrow, it's going

  42. to feel like the greatest revival that ever happened on

  43. the face of the planet happened this morning because that's

  44. the way we talk to each other.

  45. Amen.

  46. You just, I mean, Holy Ghost just fell.

  47. I mean, people were, we, I mean, and because that's

  48. how we believe it happens in our hearts because we

  49. believe that God shows up and touches lives every time

  50. we come together. And they're telling all these stories. And

  51. I bet Peter was like, listen, I walked in. There

  52. was 17 demon-possessed people.

  53. And I was like, bam, bam, bam, bam. Demons were

  54. flying out. It was just a... Jesus, you should have

  55. been there, man. It was amazing. Just blew my mind.

  56. And Jesus looks at them. And this is what he

  57. gets from all that.

  58. He looks at them and he realizes they're tired. He realizes...

  59. They have been in the middle of it and now

  60. they're tired. And he says, hey guys, this is what

  61. we're going to do. We're going to get in a boat.

  62. We're going to go over to that beach that all y'all,

  63. you know, where you like to, the campfire. We'll roast

  64. some fish over the fire. We're just going to kick

  65. back and relax, put our feet in the water. And

  66. they get in the boat and everybody determines where they're going.

  67. And the crowds run ahead of them. And they're there

  68. when they get there. But Jesus recognized the need for

  69. their rest. In Psalm chapter 23, it says, The Lord

    Psalms 23 chapter mention

  70. is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me

  71. to lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside

  72. the still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me

  73. in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. How many

  74. of you have ever read the 23rd Psalm before? You've

  75. heard it quoted. I mean, you know, it's in all

  76. the children's Bibles. It's, you know, it's usually on the

  77. back of every funeral directory.

  78. All of those things.

  79. It's a pretty common passage of Scripture. But I don't

  80. think when we read it, we really realize some of

  81. the things God is speaking to us through the 23rd Psalm.

  82. And right here he says, hey, here's one thing that

  83. I do. I'm going to put you in a still place.

  84. I'm gonna put you in green pastures. I'm gonna bring

  85. you to the still waters. You know, as a shepherd,

  86. and this is something you may not know that God

  87. is so intricately involved in people's lives that did you

  88. know that sheep can't drink from running water? Sheep can't

  89. drink from running water. They need still water because their

  90. lip has no muscular structure. So if they try to

  91. drink from running water, it just bends their bottom lip

  92. down and the water runs by and they can't drink.

  93. So they have to have still water. water he cares so.

  94. Much that he puts us in a place where we

  95. can get the refreshing and the nourishing that we need

  96. because he he brings us beside still waters and we

  97. are his flock his sheep and he cares and positions

  98. us in a place where we can get restoration and

  99. Jesus is looking at them they've done all the things

  100. And it's one of the most neglected things in the

  101. Christian life is rest. Because we think we're always supposed

  102. to do something else. But here's the deal. Rest shows faith.

  103. Most of the time we think we need to do

  104. something else to make up. Now listen, some of y'all

  105. need to listen to me right now. You need to

  106. listen to me right now. You think, oh, well, I

  107. just need to work an extra day to make ends meet. Now, listen,

  108. that sounds good in our mind.

  109. Because of math, right? I mean, math, you know, more

  110. equals more, right? I mean.

  111. If I work eight more hours at $ 20 an hour,

  112. that's $ 160 more. Over the month, that's $ 640 more.

  113. Right? And we do the math and we think, oh,

  114. more equals more. But really, what we're.

  115. Saying to God is, I don't think I can follow

  116. your principles. I don't think I can follow the principle

  117. of rest and that you will provide for me anyway.

  118. Right?

  119. Because when we take that to heart, the principle of rest,

  120. what it's.

  121. Saying is, God, I trust you.

  122. I'm having faith that he is my provider.

  123. It combats pride.

  124. When we're laying back into God, expecting him and trusting

  125. him to provide for us, we can't stand up and say,

  126. look what I've done.

  127. Look how much I've made. Look at the living. Look

  128. at this. Look at that.

  129. Listen, I have two exceptional children. I have two exceptional children.

  130. One of them's here. The other one lives.

  131. I probably have more exceptional children than they think that

  132. I am an exceptional father because one of them moved

  133. as far as she could possibly get.

  134. And still live on the continent.

  135. But nonetheless, I have two exceptional children. And here's the thing.

  136. I didn't do anything to make them that way. Show

  137. you my cards, okay?

  138. Okay?

  139. I didn't do anything to make them that way. I

  140. just simply trusted God.

  141. To do it.

  142. And he kind of gave me a paint by number

  143. script and I just kind of didn't mess up what

  144. God was already doing.

  145. Amen.

  146. See, there's something about faith and trust and realizing that

  147. I'm not as much involved. And if I can realize

  148. that and come to that place, then it diminishes pride

  149. in my life.

  150. It brings healing. Do you know your body?

  151. God created your body in a natural way that as

  152. we rest.

  153. It heals itself.

  154. That when we're in a state of rest, God has

  155. constructed us to actually heal ourselves. So rest brings healing.

  156. And then right here in Psalm 23, he says that

  157. when we rest, he restores our soul, our mind, our will,

  158. and our emotions. How many of you sometimes you just

  159. get so tired that you snap? I mean, it's like

  160. you're tired. Something little happens.

  161. And you're like.

  162. It's because rest is spiritual and he restores our soul

  163. in those moments. But here's the thing, the message is

  164. about the grind, right? It's not about rest. So the

  165. series is called The Grind. So let's keep reading and

  166. let's find out what happens because they weren't in the

  167. grind yet, but they're about to be. In Mark 6, 33,

  168. it says, but the multitude saw them departing and many

  169. knew him and ran there on foot from all the cities.

  170. They arrived before them and came together to him. And Jesus,

  171. when he came out, Jesus is a thoroughbred, right? Jesus just,

  172. he would go and go and go and go and

  173. go and go. And he was teaching and he was

  174. healing and he was telling the demons to go to

  175. the pigs. And he was speaking this and he was

  176. speaking that. And the whole time he's talking to the

  177. father and they're running the universe. And he's just like multitasking.

  178. He's just like, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, boom.

  179. I think I just broke my watch. Nope, I didn't.

  180. Jesus is, and anytime there's a need, Jesus is just.

  181. You remember the diagram we did a few weeks ago?

  182. Because, see, Jesus never was in the mode of contribution.

  183. Jesus never just contributed because he knew the explicit need.

  184. He had the passion to meet that need. His overlap

  185. was right there. His purpose was always and it empowered him.

  186. So Jesus steps out.

  187. The multitudes are there and he just does what he does.

  188. He still remembers his guys. He still remembers they're tired.

  189. He still remembers they're exhausted. But Jesus gets out and

  190. starts doing.

  191. What Jesus does.

  192. And Jesus, when he came out, he saw a great

  193. multitude and was moved with compassion for them.

  194. Because they were like sheep not having a shepherd.

  195. So he began to teach them many things. Listen, when

  196. I tell you I'm going to teach you many things,

  197. that means I'm going to be here for a long time.

  198. Jesus just kept on teaching. He taught them many things.

  199. When the day was now far spent, his disciples came

  200. to him and said, this is a deserted place. And

  201. already the hour is late.

  202. They said, Jesus, we're tired. We're tired. It's okay for

  203. you to tell God. You're tired. Just tell Him. Listen,

  204. I've gone as far as I can go.

  205. I feel like I'm at the end of my rope

  206. and there's no knot to hold on to. I feel

  207. like giving up. I feel like quitting. I feel like

  208. abandoning everything. And the reason you feel like that, because

  209. you are most susceptible to an attack from the enemy

  210. when you're spiritually tired, emotionally tired, or physically tired. He

  211. exploits those moments in our lives when we are tired.

  212. And you know, we all think, oh yeah, when I'm

  213. spiritually tired, when I've moved away from God, yeah, I'm

  214. certainly susceptible to an attack of the enemy.

  215. But that's only part of it.

  216. Sometimes you just feel worn out because things just don't

  217. line up and you're having a conversation about this and

  218. then you have to have a conversation about the same

  219. thing and then you have to have a conversation about

  220. the same thing.

  221. And guess what?

  222. Then you have to have a conversation about the same

  223. thing and it just emotionally wears you out. And the

  224. enemy is there and he's ready to attack. The thing

  225. we discount most though because it doesn't feel spiritual is

  226. the physical fatigue that we feel. When our body gets tired,

  227. we are also just as susceptible to an attack from

  228. the enemy as when we're spiritually tired or emotionally tired

  229. because our physical body demands things when it's tired. And

  230. that's when we start self-medicating with things. That's when we

  231. start putting things in place.

  232. We need just a little boost of something.

  233. And listen, I'm not just talking about drugs. I'm not

  234. just talking about those kind of things. I'm talking about

  235. all kinds of things because we're physically tired and we

  236. don't understand it and we can't manage it.

  237. So we start looking for solutions.

  238. To try to treat the fatigue that we're feeling instead

  239. of just understanding that he created the Sabbath. He created

  240. the Sabbath, a day of rest. Now, I believe that

  241. today it's not a day. I believe it is a principle.

  242. Let me say that again. It's a principle.

  243. I don't think there's anything magical about Saturday, right? Don't

  244. think there's anything magical about having to take your rest

  245. on Saturday. I believe that there are a lot of

  246. people who can work Saturday and maximize the money they

  247. make on Saturday and they can take Monday and Tuesday off.

  248. Amen?

  249. So there's nothing magical about Saturday, but the principle is

  250. very spiritual. That you need a day of rest. And

  251. this is what he says about it. He says, remember

  252. the Sabbath, listen, and to keep it holy. Now we

  253. have read so many things into that. We bring so

  254. many other things into that. But this is what he's saying.

  255. When you rest, make sure Jesus stays in the front

  256. of your mind. When you take your rest, don't fall

  257. into sin and call that rest. Take an actual rest.

  258. Don't take a fake rest empowered by the things of

  259. the world, but take a real physical rest and allow

  260. yourself just to sit still and allow your body to recover.

  261. You know, there's a, An amazing passage of Scripture. One

  262. of my favorite passages of Scripture in all the Bible.

  263. I mean, it's 2 Samuel. 2 Samuel chapter 21 verse 15.

    2 Samuel 21:15

  264. This is the story of King David. He's getting older.

  265. He's slowing down. Come on, somebody say slowing down. It

  266. used to be that when we had a day around

  267. here like yesterday, I worked circles around everybody else. Yesterday,

  268. I did a lot of sitting in a chair and watching.

  269. Come on, somebody. I did.

  270. I watched the young guys work because they're in their season.

  271. And sometimes I feel like I'm not getting old, but

  272. I'm certainly not a spraying chicken no more.

  273. Come on now.

  274. Amen.

  275. Amen.

  276. In 2 Samuel chapter 21 verse 15, it says, When

    2 Samuel 21:15

  277. the Philistines were at war again with Israel, David and

  278. his servants with him went down and fought against the Philistines.

  279. And David grew faint. He got tired. David was tired.

  280. I mean, he was out there.

  281. He was fighting on the battlefield like he had always done,

  282. and he gets tired. But you know, there's times that

  283. we're going to get tired.

  284. Right? There's things that have to be done.

  285. But if we put the spiritual principles in our lives,

  286. even in those moments where we have to press a

  287. little bit harder and we have to take a boat

  288. ride and get off the boat and do something we

  289. didn't expect to do, if we've got the spiritual things

  290. in place, we can still be okay. Because the enemy

  291. attacks when we get tired.

  292. Tired.

  293. In verse 16, it says, Then Ishbi Benab, who was

  294. one of the sons of the giant, the weight of

  295. whose bronze spear was 300 shekels, who was bearing a

  296. new sword, thought he could kill David. But Abishai, the

  297. son of Zerui, came to his aid and struck the

  298. Philistine and killed him. Then the men of David swore

  299. to him, saying, You shall go out no more with

  300. us to battle, lest you quench the lamp It's this

  301. picture that I see in my mind of David doing

  302. what he had always done. And he starts getting a

  303. little fatigued. And in my mind, he just sneaks over

  304. behind a rock somewhere. He's just going to lean up

  305. against the rock. He's just going to catch his breath.

  306. And the giant, he sees him. He starts slipping up

  307. behind David. He says, this is my chance. The enemy

  308. saw that he was tired and he said, this is

  309. my chance. And he started creeping up on him. The

  310. purpose was to kill David. Listen, the enemy doesn't want

  311. to play with you. He doesn't want to torment you.

  312. He wants to kill you. He wants to steal your vision.

  313. He wants to render you hopeless. He wants to bring

  314. you to a state where there is no life in you.

  315. And if there is no life in you, there can

  316. be no life that passes through you to the people

  317. around you. He steals and robs you of your purpose.

  318. And he's getting ready to kill David and this guy Abishai.

  319. Abishai was actually David's cousin. Abishai shows up and he

  320. kills the giant. See, when you surround yourself with people

  321. that have your back, when you surround yourself with people

  322. who are watching, who care about you, who will give

  323. their life for you, because there's something in you that

  324. they recognize that's so valuable.

  325. This is why he did it.

  326. Not because it was David, not because it was his cousin,

  327. but because he carried the vision for Israel. If you

  328. awaken purpose on the inside of you, people take notice

  329. that there's purpose on the inside of you and they

  330. will be your Abishai and they will watch. And listen,

  331. he was engaged in the same battle as David. It's

  332. not that they were just there. They were doing the

  333. same thing. They were living life together, but Abishai was

  334. there and he struck down the giant.

  335. You guys can get ready.

  336. He struck the giant down and then they all came

  337. around and said, oh, you can't come to battle no more.

  338. You can't come to battle no more. Lest the lamp

  339. of Israel should perish. Lest the vision for a nation

  340. should be extinguished. You know, that sounds a lot like

  341. groups to me. When I read that story of Abishai,

  342. that's what groups do. They surround you with people who

  343. care about you. They surround you with people who will

  344. watch your back.

  345. That when the enemy comes in, they will cut him

  346. off at the.

  347. Pass and they won't let you fall. They won't let

  348. the purpose be extinguished out of your life. They stand

  349. up and they stand strong and they say, not today, devil.

  350. If you're doing life alone, the giant will kill you.

  351. If you're isolated and you don't have people that care

  352. about you, there will be days where you get tired

  353. or where you choose to be tired.

  354. Where you have to.

  355. Push just a little bit harder and in those times

  356. you need somebody you can text that you can call

  357. and say, hey, I need you to pray for me.

  358. I'm feeling this way. I'm feeling that way.

  359. I just, listen, I know, I mean, I've been going

  360. for two straight weeks without a day off and I'm

  361. about to get in the car and drive home. Listen,

  362. I know when I get there, my kids, they're going

  363. to want to play Monopoly. That game takes like eight days.

  364. And I don't have it in me to do that.

  365. Can you pray for me? that I handle the situation

  366. correctly because they're worth me handling the situation correctly. Or hey,

  367. my boss hadn't given me a day off.

  368. And I'm tired.

  369. If you don't pray for me, I'm going to tell

  370. him what I think about it when I get to work.

  371. You're in a group with Andy and he says, hey,

  372. Didn't you just invite him to church last week? Might

  373. not be a good idea to cuss him out this week.

  374. You just invited him to church. And let me say

  375. a quick word of prayer. Then you get a text

  376. message at lunch. It says, hey, just wanted you to know.

  377. He's praying for you.

  378. That's Abishai. You need Him and you need to be Him.

  379. I pray that that Abishai anointing rests on every one

  380. of our groups. On every one of our teams. Every

  381. one of our ministries. Because we all need people in

  382. our lives. Because we all need purpose in our lives. Listen,

  383. maybe you're here and you're like, yeah, yeah, I know.

  384. Group this, group that.

  385. You've always talked about groups.

  386. Maybe you don't see the value in groups because....

  387. You haven't really tapped into purpose so you don't feel

  388. like there's anything to protect. Maybe you don't see the

  389. value in yourself. You don't see the vision that you

  390. carry for your community and your family and your business.

  391. You don't see the immense value there. So you don't

  392. think you really need anybody watching your back because who.

  393. Why would the... Why would the enemy want to.

  394. I don't even want to kill me. No danger.

  395. My prayer for you today is that purpose is birthed

  396. in you so strong and so bright that you know

  397. you're on hell's hit list and you must surround yourself

  398. with people who love.

  399. You and care about you. Listen, teachers, some of you guys,

  400. you just went back. You need to get involved in

  401. FCA on your campuses. You need to get involved. If

  402. you're in an elementary school especially, you need to get

  403. involved in FCA.

  404. Because that is a place for you to make an

  405. imprint on their lives because they already see you as authority.

  406. And then that's a place you can show them your

  407. faith in a safe environment. So find out who does

  408. FCA and start going to those.

  409. Morning FCA meetings. And then get them to invite me

  410. to come and speak.

  411. To your elementary school students because I love doing that.

  412. Maybe you're here and you're just wandering.

  413. I believe today God can give you purpose. As a

  414. matter of fact, everybody's standing with me all over the room.

  415. If you're born again, if you've given your life to Jesus,

  416. you've asked Him to forgive you of your sins, He's ready.

  417. To propel you into purpose. But maybe you're here today.

  418. And you've never really surrendered your life to Jesus.

  419. Never asked Him to forgive you of your sins. You

  420. never asked Him to be the Lord of your life.

  421. But in this moment right now, something is just moving

  422. right in here somewhere.

  423. It's Him calling you into purpose.

  424. It's Him calling you into greatness. The first step is

  425. surrendering your life to His Lordship. So with every head

  426. bowed and every eye closed, if you're here, you can say,

  427. I want to give my life to Jesus.

  428. I want Him to forgive me of my sins.

  429. I want Him to birth purpose in me. I want

  430. to be saved.

  431. If that's you today, slip up your hand and say,

  432. that's me, Pastor.

  433. Pray for me.

  434. I'm going to pause right here for just a moment

  435. because there's somebody.

  436. You're fighting it. What will people think? God, just... Put

  437. your hand up. Put it right back down.

  438. Say, pray for me, Pastor.

  439. Amen.

  440. Father, I pray right now that You fill Your people

  441. with purpose. that You light a white hot fire underneath

  442. them that burns for their appointed purpose in the kingdom. Lord,

  443. that it brings life to everything they do. That it awakens.

  444. Vigor and vitality. Lord Jesus, right now, Show us.

  445. Show us.

  446. Show us the first step to purpose.

  447. And Lord, surround every person with an Abishai. Help every

  448. person Get connected in a group where they can care

  449. for people and people can care for them. Brighten lives

  450. with the Abishais you bring into contact with us.

  451. Lord, we ask it in Jesus' name. Amen, amen, and amen.
