Brother Jim: How are you doing this fine day?
-
Brother Jim: Our beautiful friends.
-
Brother Jim: Welcome to Bible bibs and a prayer where we open God's Word.
-
Brother Jim: Strengthen our faith.
-
Brother Jim: Oh, yeah.
-
Brother Jim: Make a big muscle there and take
-
Brother Jim: everything to the Lord in
-
Brother Jim: prayer.
-
Brother Jim: And again, as I've said many times, we have a whole lot of
-
Brother Jim: fun doing it.
-
Brother Jim: And guess what?
-
Brother Jim: No, we're not pulling your leg.
-
Brother Jim: This is for real.
-
Brother Jim: A little bit of fifties right there.
-
Brother Jim: I'm one half of the dynamic duo.
-
Brother Jim: The big guy, Brother Jim.
-
Brother Jim: We are celebrating here on Thursday, the nineteen fifties.
-
Brother Jim: And there is a possibility we
-
Brother Jim: might just be a little tutti
-
Brother Jim: frutti.
-
Singer: Wow. Bom bom.
-
Singer: To the boot on.
-
David: I was a little slow on the draw there.
-
Singer: Tutti frutti.
-
Speaker 6: Tutti frutti, tutti frutti.
-
Singer: Oh, Rudy. Oh.
-
David: Yeah.
-
Brother Jim: That is a good tune.
-
David: Yeah. It is.
-
Brother Jim: Who sings that one?
-
David: Little Richard.
-
Brother Jim: Little Richard, I gotta give it out.
-
Brother Jim: I'm gonna tip my hat to Little Richard there.
-
Brother Jim: Yes, a little tutti frutti.
-
Brother Jim: And if you've been watching us,
-
Brother Jim: you know we are little tutti
-
Brother Jim: frutti ourselves.
-
Brother Jim: Uh, maybe a lot more tutti frutti, but hey, you know.
-
Brother Jim: But hey, welcome.
-
Brother Jim: Grab your Bible, open up your heart.
-
Brother Jim: Put down the distractions and
-
Brother Jim: cut off that crazy noise of the
-
Brother Jim: world.
-
Brother Jim: Get yourself ready to spend a few minutes discovering what
-
Brother Jim: God's Word has to say to you.
-
Brother Jim: Because when?
-
Brother Jim: Again, I can't stress this enough.
-
Brother Jim: When the Bible gets into your
-
Brother Jim: heart, into your mind, and
-
Brother Jim: prayer gets on your lips, good
-
Brother Jim: chance your life is going to
-
Brother Jim: change.
-
Brother Jim: Yes.
-
Brother Jim: So how about it, folks?
-
Brother Jim: What do you say we get this party started?
-
Brother Jim: So turn up the volume, grab your
-
Brother Jim: Bibles, straighten up those
-
Brother Jim: bibs.
-
Brother Jim: And if you notice, today I'm wearing suspenders this week.
-
Brother Jim: Sit back, relax.
-
Brother Jim: And for crying out loud, that's
-
Brother Jim: another one we're going to get
-
Brother Jim: started.
-
Brother Jim: This is Bible and prayer where the word is alive and the Holy
-
Brother Jim: Spirit is always invited.
-
Brother Jim: Let's go.
-
Brother Jim: And of course.
-
Brother Jim: Oh yes, I am not doing this show alone.
-
Brother Jim: Of course I've got the barnyard here with me.
-
Brother Jim: They're cool, but not as cool as this guy.
-
Brother Jim: Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages.
-
Brother Jim: It is time to introduce my co-host.
-
Brother Jim: And you know what?
-
Brother Jim: When I look at this man, there
-
Brother Jim: is something I. I can't get out
-
Brother Jim: of my mind every time I look at
-
Brother Jim: him.
-
Brother Jim: Because there's a whole lotta shakin goin on.
-
Brother Jim: When this man straps on the mic and he picks it up right.
-
Brother Jim: Give it up for my co-host, Mr. David Keener.
-
David: We must have missed something there, because I don't think I
-
David: have that song queued up.
-
David: Oh, man.
-
David: I don't know if I missed when
-
David: you were telling it to me or
-
David: not, but you got to find better
-
David: help.
-
David: That's all I can say.
-
Brother Jim: No, no.
-
David: But, you know, since since we're talking about the fifties this
-
David: week, uh, can we refer to you as the Big Kahuna instead of Big
-
David: Kahuna instead of brother big guy, brother Jim.
-
David: All right.
-
Brother Jim: I like that, the big kahuna.
-
Brother Jim: Wait a minute, I can't.
-
Brother Jim: In addition, he's one of my best friends in the whole wide world.
-
Brother Jim: Let's hear it for the man,
-
Brother Jim: because he is definitely
-
Brother Jim: unforgettable.
-
David: There we go.
-
David: As a as.
-
Brother Jim: A.
-
David: As. I just went to go look for the other one.
-
David: Now we've got.
-
Brother Jim: Ah, yes.
-
David: Little Nat King Cole. We are so
-
David: going to get copyright stricken
-
David: these weeks.
-
Singer: Unforgettable.
-
David: Yes.
-
Speaker 7: That's what you are.
-
Brother Jim: That is what.
-
David: You.
-
Brother Jim: Are.
-
David: We won't say if that's a good
-
David: thing or a bad thing, but
-
David: unforgettable.
-
David: Yes.
-
David: Yes.
-
Brother Jim: I will say it's been fun going
-
Brother Jim: through all these and all these
-
Brother Jim: old songs.
-
Brother Jim: Some I know, some I don't know.
-
Brother Jim: Yeah.
-
Brother Jim: But yeah.
-
Brother Jim: And again, from the favorite foods, the favorite slang, the
-
Brother Jim: songs, the movies, the dress code, if you will.
-
Brother Jim: Yeah.
-
Brother Jim: It's been, I don't know if we'll
-
Brother Jim: venture into the forties or not
-
Brother Jim: because I know we got the
-
Brother Jim: nineteen nineties.
-
Brother Jim: We kind of started in the eighties and went backwards.
-
Brother Jim: But, uh, I don't know what what generation are they?
-
Brother Jim: The nineties?
-
Brother Jim: Are they still part of?
-
David: I think it's still considered millennial.
-
Brother Jim: Millennial. All right.
-
Brother Jim: Okay. Well, we can't leave them out.
-
Brother Jim: Yeah.
-
Brother Jim: And Lord only knows what we're
-
Brother Jim: going to get into when we get
-
Brother Jim: into this.
-
Brother Jim: The two thousand.
-
Brother Jim: Oh, boy, oh, boy.
-
Brother Jim: Yeah.
-
Brother Jim: Yes.
-
Brother Jim: We might get banned there.
-
Brother Jim: So because opinions might fly a little bit.
-
Brother Jim: Yep.
-
Brother Jim: Yes.
-
Brother Jim: So, uh, and you won't catch Brother Jim coming in with his
-
Brother Jim: pants on the ground, pants on the ground, looking like a fool
-
Brother Jim: with your pants on the ground.
-
Brother Jim: How you doing, my friend?
-
David: Doing good.
-
David: The weekend is upon us or almost upon us.
-
David: So that's always a good thing.
-
Brother Jim: How is life in Kernersville?
-
David: Good. Pretty. Pretty uneventful, I think.
-
David: Uh, not too much going on now.
-
Brother Jim: Any plans for the weekend?
-
David: Not that I know of.
-
David: I mean, not that I've been told of, at least so far.
-
Brother Jim: I understand.
-
David: Yeah.
-
Brother Jim: Yes. Yes.
-
David: But the only thing I did recently was I made a chicken
-
David: salad, and it turns out they like grain, so.
-
David: Uh.
-
Brother Jim: That was a good one.
-
Brother Jim: I, I took it as you made chicken salad at first and then.
-
David: Gotcha.
-
Brother Jim: Gotcha. Yes. All righty.
-
Brother Jim: That was a good one.
-
Brother Jim: Uh.
-
Brother Jim: Uh. That's why he's the best
-
Brother Jim: color commentator in the league,
-
Brother Jim: folks.
-
Brother Jim: Yes.
-
Brother Jim: He is.
-
Brother Jim: Yeah.
-
Brother Jim: I'm just a bit.
-
Brother Jim: Oh my goodness.
-
Brother Jim: Uh, I was telling David I finally got to the yard.
-
Brother Jim: Not all of it are yards, let me put it that way.
-
Brother Jim: But oh my goodness, I had to run down and pick up my yard sweeper
-
Brother Jim: from my son in law because it's going to need a lot of sweeping.
-
Brother Jim: Oh my goodness.
-
Brother Jim: Yes.
-
Brother Jim: And the one thing David has going living in the big town of
-
Brother Jim: Dover, as he's told us, he can get away with using a battery
-
Brother Jim: powered mower now, correct?
-
David: No. The mower still gas, I haven't.
-
David: Oh, I thought you upgraded to.
-
David: No, I've got a battery, a gas powered mower.
-
David: Got a nice Honda mower.
-
David: Shout out to Honda.
-
David: I'm not sponsored yet but uh yeah, my my edge trimmer.
-
David: My weed whacker and my blower and my leaf.
-
David: No, sorry.
-
David: My leaf blower and my snowblower.
-
David: And I just bought a set of hedge trimmers.
-
David: Uh, battery powered.
-
Brother Jim: Okay, I was talking to another
-
Brother Jim: dude, then I was cheating on
-
Brother Jim: you.
-
Brother Jim: Talking to somebody?
-
Brother Jim: Oh, no. Yeah, they bought the battery pack, whatever.
-
Brother Jim: And they said it was really nice.
-
David: I'm sure I could get away.
-
David: With what?
-
David: My yard's not that big, so.
-
Brother Jim: Yeah, and I. Yeah, he said he was really impressed.
-
Brother Jim: But again, no oil, no fuel, none of that.
-
Brother Jim: So, uh.
-
Brother Jim: Yes.
-
Brother Jim: How about you guys?
-
Brother Jim: How's yours looking?
-
Brother Jim: Are you getting ready for fall?
-
Brother Jim: Fall is here.
-
Brother Jim: I smelled it the other day when I was mowing.
-
Brother Jim: Just that smell of the leaves.
-
Brother Jim: And it was like.
-
Brother Jim: Oh, yeah.
-
Brother Jim: And people have been having fires.
-
Brother Jim: We had.
-
Brother Jim: Well, I burned a bunch of, uh,
-
Brother Jim: Dave and I was talking about
-
Brother Jim: this.
-
Brother Jim: Politicians, for the love of Mary, would you quit sending out
-
Brother Jim: flyers in the mail?
-
Brother Jim: Okay.
-
Brother Jim: Number one, I don't even look at him.
-
Brother Jim: David, you look at him.
-
David: Just to throw him in the trash can, just.
-
Brother Jim: To throw him in the trash.
-
Brother Jim: All those poor little trees dying to try to get you elected.
-
Brother Jim: Stop it.
-
Brother Jim: I hate to say it.
-
Brother Jim: It ain't going to change my vote one way or another with your
-
Brother Jim: little ads in the mail.
-
David: Well, here's another thing.
-
David: In the same vein two yard signs.
-
David: Has anybody's political opinion ever been swayed by the fact
-
David: that, oh, that guy's got a lot of yard signs?
-
Brother Jim: Man, that sign looks cool.
-
David: Yeah. I mean, for him, that's the same thing.
-
David: Like they do nothing.
-
David: They're just a waste of money.
-
Brother Jim: Yes. And what happens to them?
-
David: They get thrown away or recollected.
-
Brother Jim: Yes. So yeah.
-
Brother Jim: How about it, folks?
-
Brother Jim: Let's put that money into the economy.
-
Brother Jim: Now, I know people are making
-
Brother Jim: money off of making the signs,
-
Brother Jim: but again, oh my goodness, the
-
Brother Jim: paper.
-
Brother Jim: I had a fire.
-
Brother Jim: Now that's a fire burning all the ads the other night.
-
Brother Jim: Geez, are we something else?
-
David: I'm about sick of hearing Jon Husted blah blah blah blah blah.
-
David: Oh, stop with the political commercials.
-
David: Nobody believes your political commercials.
-
David: Both of you are lying on both sides.
-
David: There you go.
-
David: Shut up!
-
Brother Jim: Just. That's why I call him the wise man.
-
Brother Jim: Yes.
-
Brother Jim: And the other one.
-
Brother Jim: Liberty.
-
Brother Jim: Liberty.
-
Brother Jim: Oh, whatever that is.
-
Brother Jim: Oh, my.
-
David: That's for an actual product.
-
Brother Jim: I know, but still.
-
Brother Jim: Uh, I don't know, Netflix or
-
Brother Jim: whatever it is that comes up all
-
Brother Jim: the time.
-
Brother Jim: Oh my goodness.
-
Brother Jim: Oh, and there's another one.
-
Brother Jim: It's just as they're all annoying.
-
David: Yeah.
-
Brother Jim: You know, and you get on YouTube or anything.
-
Brother Jim: You gotta have the ads and oh,
-
Brother Jim: sorry folks, I'm kind of going
-
Brother Jim: off a little bit, but how about
-
Brother Jim: you?
-
Brother Jim: Do you agree?
-
Brother Jim: Let's save some trees, man.
-
Brother Jim: Uh. You know.
-
Brother Jim: Oh, my goodness, enough's enough.
-
Brother Jim: All righty.
-
Brother Jim: Uh, plans for me?
-
Brother Jim: Uh, I tell you, I, I am, thankfully, weddings are done.
-
Brother Jim: Yeah, weddings are done.
-
Brother Jim: Had two back to backers and that is a lot there.
-
Brother Jim: And of course, uh, had to get an extension on my paper.
-
Brother Jim: So the paper was due last Thursday.
-
Brother Jim: Now I got a paper due this Thursday.
-
Brother Jim: Well, today actually, so it never ends.
-
Brother Jim: It never ends.
-
Brother Jim: And, uh, unfortunately now we got a funeral coming up with our
-
Brother Jim: we got our big baptism ceremony coming up here October eleventh.
-
Brother Jim: Fourteen individuals will be baptized here at Roxford church.
-
Brother Jim: So that is awesome.
-
Brother Jim: Plus it's Brother Jim's first time.
-
Brother Jim: Or wait a minute, the big Kahunas.
-
Brother Jim: Yes, first time ever baptizing
-
Brother Jim: somebody that they've entrusted
-
Brother Jim: me enough.
-
Brother Jim: Which.
-
Brother Jim: Oh boy.
-
Brother Jim: And I've already been told, make sure you don't drown anybody,
-
Brother Jim: even if you don't like them.
-
David: So have your have your duck
-
David: floaties come in and all that
-
David: stuff.
-
Brother Jim: I think we need to get a lifeguard in with the whistle,
-
Brother Jim: the whole thing.
-
Brother Jim: So yes.
-
Brother Jim: Uh, yes.
-
Brother Jim: Going to break in our brand new baptismal we got.
-
Brother Jim: So I was thinking about trying
-
Brother Jim: to take a bath in it, but I was
-
Brother Jim: discouraged on that frowned
-
Brother Jim: upon.
-
Brother Jim: So like whatever, you know, but how about you folks?
-
Brother Jim: What's going down in the neighborhood in your backyard?
-
Brother Jim: What?
-
Brother Jim: Come on, guys, you're killing us here.
-
Brother Jim: Let us know.
-
Brother Jim: Please, please let us know.
-
Brother Jim: Just one little comment.
-
Brother Jim: Hey, big kahuna, and, uh, wise man, this is what we got going
-
Brother Jim: on, you know, uh.
-
David: Thankful for Peg Abram, though
-
David: she is always faithful to
-
David: comment something.
-
David: Thank you.
-
David: Peg.
-
David: Yes.
-
David: Glad to know you're out there.
-
David: We enjoy that.
-
David: You're listening.
-
Brother Jim: Yes. Oh, but anybody else out there listening?
-
Brother Jim: Anybody.
-
David: You know, we could probably save a lot of effort and time if we
-
David: just invite Peg into the server or the studio, and she can just
-
David: sit here and enjoy it.
-
Brother Jim: That is true.
-
Brother Jim: She can have a front row seat.
-
David: That's right.
-
David: That's right.
-
Brother Jim: Yeah. We'd probably lose her after the first round.
-
Brother Jim: This is especially the after parts.
-
Brother Jim: All righty.
-
Brother Jim: Uh, Mr. David already hit us
-
Brother Jim: with that great joke on the
-
Brother Jim: chicken salad.
-
Brother Jim: Caught me hook, line and sinker.
-
Brother Jim: Why again?
-
Brother Jim: I've started doing on Thursdays, brother Jim thoughts.
-
Brother Jim: And again, this goes to the nineteen fifties as we salute
-
Brother Jim: the nineteen fifties.
-
Brother Jim: A nineteen fifties church service was different.
-
Brother Jim: Nobody had a smart watch telling
-
Brother Jim: them how long the sermon had
-
Brother Jim: been going.
-
Brother Jim: They just had grandma looking at the clock.
-
Brother Jim: In the nineteen fifties, church parking was simple.
-
Brother Jim: You didn't need GPS.
-
Brother Jim: You just followed the cars with the Sunday clothes in them.
-
Brother Jim: Ah yes.
-
Brother Jim: Somebody asked a nineteen
-
Brother Jim: fifties kid, what do you do when
-
Brother Jim: you're bored?
-
Brother Jim: They said, I don't know.
-
Brother Jim: I've never been bored.
-
Brother Jim: Mom always finds something for me to do.
-
David: That's right.
-
Brother Jim: Yes. How about it, folks?
-
Brother Jim: Well, we're done with the jokes
-
Brother Jim: and thoughts, at least for the
-
Brother Jim: moment.
-
Brother Jim: And you survived it.
-
Brother Jim: Oh, my.
-
Brother Jim: My mind is just rolling and rolling.
-
Brother Jim: That might be a dangerous thing.
-
Brother Jim: Now God is asking you to survive the spiritual struggles that you
-
Brother Jim: are going through.
-
Brother Jim: Hey, everybody's got spiritual struggles, David.
-
Brother Jim: You got spiritual struggles.
-
David: Yep. Sure do.
-
Brother Jim: I do sometimes it might not be
-
Brother Jim: trying to not choke somebody in
-
Brother Jim: the congregation.
-
Brother Jim: Of course.
-
Brother Jim: I'm just kidding.
-
Brother Jim: Oh. Here's here's one for you, my friends.
-
Brother Jim: Now, I understand some of our
-
Brother Jim: elderly, you know, they fall
-
Brother Jim: asleep.
-
Brother Jim: And that doesn't bother me one bit.
-
Brother Jim: But what do you do when you got people that just fall asleep?
-
Brother Jim: What?
-
Brother Jim: We're asking you for comments.
-
Brother Jim: What would be a good way to wake
-
Brother Jim: somebody up with just a little
-
Brother Jim: bit of embarrassment, but not a
-
Brother Jim: lot.
-
David: I got a funny story about that.
-
Brother Jim: Fire away brother.
-
David: Way, way, way back in the day, there was a former pastor here.
-
David: I won't say any names because I don't want to embarrass anybody,
-
David: but this goes way back.
-
David: Somebody fell asleep in church and got.
-
David: He got right down next to him in the pew and shouted, fire!
-
David: Fire!
-
David: He got awake and said, where?
-
David: Where, where in hell for sleeping in church and went
-
David: right on with the sermon.
-
David: Oh wow.
-
Brother Jim: I don't think I could be that bold.
-
Brother Jim: That would, uh.
-
Brother Jim: Oh, my.
-
Brother Jim: I've got an idea who might the pastor you might be talking
-
Brother Jim: about on that one.
-
Brother Jim: Have you fallen asleep in church?
-
Brother Jim: Ah, there's a good question.
-
Brother Jim: I gotta admit, throughout there are times, you know, and again,
-
Brother Jim: I think I've mentioned this.
-
Brother Jim: My daughter or our daughter, excuse me, Ellie, the thirteen
-
Brother Jim: year old, if she can't fall asleep, sometimes she turns on
-
Brother Jim: one of the sermons recorded and listens to my voice.
-
Brother Jim: She says, you have such a soothing voice, dad.
-
David: I'm not sure if that's a
-
David: compliment or I know I don't
-
David: know, it's kind of both, but
-
David: yes.
-
Brother Jim: And it was so cool.
-
Brother Jim: I gotta say this and I'll shut up and we'll get to it.
-
Brother Jim: Uh, Ellie's playing volleyball, uh, Canaan Valley, eighth grade.
-
Brother Jim: And it's so cool because our
-
Brother Jim: oldest daughter, Kylie, is
-
Brother Jim: coaching one of the two head
-
Brother Jim: coaches.
-
Brother Jim: And Kelsey, our one daughter, helps out.
-
Brother Jim: The only one missing is Mikayla.
-
Brother Jim: We have all four man back girls
-
Brother Jim: on the bench, but I'm always
-
Brother Jim: telling Kylie about motivation,
-
Brother Jim: and I had to take Ellie over the
-
Brother Jim: other night early for the game,
-
Brother Jim: so I'm one of the first ones
-
Brother Jim: there.
-
Brother Jim: The kids are warming up and I got to sit on the coaches seats
-
Brother Jim: where the team sits.
-
Brother Jim: David.
-
Brother Jim: Yeah, and those chairs are so
-
Brother Jim: nice versus bleacher chairs, you
-
Brother Jim: know.
-
David: Oh, do do they need a trainer on the team or anything that you
-
David: could, you know, volunteer for just for that seat?
-
Brother Jim: Well, I, I deemed dubbed myself motivational speaker.
-
Brother Jim: You know where.
-
David: I'm going.
-
Brother Jim: With that one.
-
Brother Jim: So anyway, I said, and I was given the girls all this stuff.
-
Brother Jim: I was hyped, I was jacked, you know, the hat was backwards.
-
Brother Jim: I'm like, come on.
-
Brother Jim: I said, come on, Kai.
-
Brother Jim: Just let me talk to him.
-
Brother Jim: She's like, all right, dad.
-
Brother Jim: And so I had them all at seventh and eighth graders and I'm like
-
Brother Jim: giving it to them.
-
Brother Jim: They're all fired up.
-
Brother Jim: I'm like, I won't even go into it.
-
Brother Jim: But let's just say they were motivated.
-
Brother Jim: So throughout the game, I'm like, yeah, and Ellie's up on
-
Brother Jim: the the front line on the net.
-
Brother Jim: And they, I won't mention the school, but the girls, she heard
-
Brother Jim: them talking like, who is that guy up there?
-
Brother Jim: And when I was leaving the school, it was weird because I
-
Brother Jim: had Apple songs or whatever, you know, where you can download
-
Brother Jim: songs and then discontinued it.
-
Brother Jim: But this thing came up and it had a Dana White on.
-
Brother Jim: It was a motivational weird how
-
Brother Jim: I was talking to Ellie, taking
-
Brother Jim: her over.
-
Brother Jim: Yeah, talking about motivational
-
Brother Jim: and this popped up, but there
-
Brother Jim: was some such good key points in
-
Brother Jim: that.
-
Brother Jim: And I was like, I had my speech
-
Brother Jim: all ready for Saturday morning
-
Brother Jim: and I didn't get asked, so
-
Brother Jim: bummer.
-
Brother Jim: So yeah, I'm trying to be the official motivational speaker.
-
Brother Jim: There you go.
-
Brother Jim: So yeah.
-
Brother Jim: All right, enough with all that nonsense.
-
Brother Jim: Well, you know, I guess as a
-
Brother Jim: pastor, you are a motivational
-
Brother Jim: speaker.
-
David: Well, yeah, in some regard.
-
Brother Jim: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
-
Brother Jim: So which goes back to the point, if you're falling asleep in
-
Brother Jim: church, how can I motivate you not to fall asleep?
-
Brother Jim: So if you got any ideas, any
-
Brother Jim: stories like David had, let us
-
Brother Jim: know.
-
Brother Jim: That would be a great one to share.
-
Brother Jim: But also, how do you wake somebody up that's appropriate
-
Brother Jim: to wake them up?
-
Brother Jim: So Dave is already thinking on this one, so.
-
Brother Jim: All righty.
-
Brother Jim: How about we get to it?
-
Brother Jim: Yes.
-
Brother Jim: Quote of the day.
-
Brother Jim: Worship.
-
Brother Jim: And we're still talking about worship, my friends.
-
Brother Jim: Worship takes our eyes off of
-
Brother Jim: ourselves and places them where
-
Brother Jim: they ought to be on God, where
-
Brother Jim: they belong.
-
Brother Jim: Now, Tuesday we got into what worship is to you and we just
-
Brother Jim: scratched the surface.
-
Brother Jim: But here's a question for you.
-
Brother Jim: Has church gotten away from true worship?
-
Brother Jim: Oh, David, get your mind spinning on that one.
-
Brother Jim: Now we we hit a little bit of what we do in worship.
-
Brother Jim: Again, encourage you to go back, check it out there.
-
Brother Jim: But, uh, you know, we, we all have our ideas of worship, but
-
Brother Jim: again, true worship, are we inviting God into worship?
-
Brother Jim: Are we putting ourselves into worship?
-
Brother Jim: And is God the main focus of worship?
-
Brother Jim: Now we're going to be looking at
-
Brother Jim: John four twenty three to twenty
-
Brother Jim: four again.
-
Brother Jim: But Mr. David.
-
Brother Jim: Well, I am so curious.
-
Brother Jim: You being the wise man, the big kahuna is asking you, what is
-
Brother Jim: your opinion to that question?
-
Brother Jim: Can you see as a body whole of the church?
-
Brother Jim: Yeah.
-
Brother Jim: Do you believe could it be moving away from what true
-
Brother Jim: worship should be?
-
David: I think so.
-
David: I mean, we're distracted by so many things today, you know, or
-
David: got the phone all the time.
-
David: And it's hard to you know, I
-
David: feel like everybody has some
-
David: form of ADHD anymore because
-
David: there's so many things drawing
-
David: your attention.
-
David: It's, it's really hard to focus
-
David: in and lock in, if you will, on
-
David: worship.
-
Brother Jim: Yeah. Very true.
-
Brother Jim: Have we, as the church, gotten away from true worship, not
-
Brother Jim: worship as a Sunday routine, not worship as a particular style or
-
Brother Jim: music, not worship as something we watch from our seats.
-
Brother Jim: But true worship.
-
Brother Jim: Jesus said in John four twenty three to twenty four, the true
-
Brother Jim: worshipers will worship the father in spirit and in truth.
-
Brother Jim: And again Jesus said, true
-
Brother Jim: worshipers, so are you a true
-
Brother Jim: worshiper?
-
Brother Jim: AM I a true worshiper?
-
Brother Jim: That means there can be worship
-
Brother Jim: that looks right right on the
-
Brother Jim: outside, but isn't coming from
-
Brother Jim: the heart.
-
Brother Jim: So we touched on that again.
-
Brother Jim: Uh, the self-righteous who look at me, you know.
-
Brother Jim: Uh, yes.
-
Brother Jim: Or maybe the person that doesn't say a word.
-
Brother Jim: And I get that there's a lot of quiet people out there.
-
Brother Jim: They don't want to make a spectacle because maybe they're
-
Brother Jim: they're not sure how to react.
-
Brother Jim: And again, are the churches, our
-
Brother Jim: pastors teaching people, our
-
Brother Jim: Sunday school Bible studies, all
-
Brother Jim: this stuff?
-
Brother Jim: Are we teaching people how to worship?
-
Brother Jim: And again, we can sing the songs, we can bow our heads and
-
Brother Jim: cross our fingers.
-
Brother Jim: And I can't help but think of Cousin Eddie and Christmas
-
Brother Jim: vacation when he's at the table and does that.
-
Brother Jim: If you remember that one, we can raise our hands.
-
Brother Jim: We can listen to the sermon, we can even take notes in the
-
Brother Jim: sermon from the sermon.
-
Brother Jim: And again, we can say all the right words on a Sunday morning
-
Brother Jim: to the people around us.
-
Brother Jim: And yet our hearts can be somewhere else.
-
Brother Jim: As David said, he hid it on the head.
-
Brother Jim: We must have been a little bit
-
Brother Jim: of unagi going on there because,
-
Brother Jim: uh, yeah, we're drawing away the
-
Brother Jim: fidgety person that's always
-
Brother Jim: looking around, the person
-
Brother Jim: looking at the clock, the person
-
Brother Jim: on the phone, the person writing
-
Brother Jim: out their checks or balancing
-
Brother Jim: their checkbooks.
-
Brother Jim: And we got long pews at Roxford.
-
Brother Jim: So you can kind of see what your neighbor's doing, the one that
-
Brother Jim: has to get up and go to the bathroom twenty times.
-
Brother Jim: Again, not.
-
Brother Jim: But you know what I mean.
-
Brother Jim: Those are all distractions that should stop us, hopefully make
-
Brother Jim: us stop and think.
-
Brother Jim: Have we made worship about us?
-
Brother Jim: Ooh.
-
Brother Jim: And again, going back to music, Did I really like the music?
-
Brother Jim: Did I really like the sermon?
-
Brother Jim: Do I like the pastor?
-
Brother Jim: HMM.
-
Brother Jim: Let's break that down.
-
Brother Jim: All the things the pastor did wrong this Sunday.
-
Brother Jim: All the things that the bulletin.
-
Brother Jim: Oh, there we go.
-
Brother Jim: The bulletin.
-
Brother Jim: David.
-
Brother Jim: There's one that is great.
-
Brother Jim: Let us look at the bulletin and find any misspellings where the
-
Brother Jim: hyphen was not supposed to be.
-
Brother Jim: Oh my goodness, they got the wrong date or the wrong time.
-
Brother Jim: Oh my what?
-
Brother Jim: I hear what the poor office people go through.
-
Brother Jim: Who cares?
-
Brother Jim: I mean it can always be corrected.
-
Brother Jim: But again, you're drawing your
-
Brother Jim: attention so much to the
-
Brother Jim: bulletin that you're not even
-
Brother Jim: paying attention.
-
Brother Jim: And again, I love to watch.
-
Brother Jim: I wish, David, you could get me a camera up front, like on my
-
Brother Jim: glasses to where I could zoom in on people singing.
-
Brother Jim: That would be great.
-
Brother Jim: MM. Brother Jim, I want to hear song six thirty two.
-
Brother Jim: All right, let's sing.
-
Brother Jim: Six thirty two.
-
Brother Jim: Not a word, not a word.
-
Brother Jim: Did I get something out of church today?
-
Brother Jim: Did I get something out of the sermon?
-
Brother Jim: Oh, my.
-
Brother Jim: Were you really listening or
-
Brother Jim: were you thinking about that
-
Brother Jim: delicious meal that's in the
-
Brother Jim: crock pot?
-
Brother Jim: Or it's going to be on the barbecue?
-
Brother Jim: Or if we're going to beat the Baptists down the famous recipe.
-
Brother Jim: Uh, but perhaps the better question is, did I give God?
-
Brother Jim: Did I give God my worship today?
-
Brother Jim: Worship isn't about entertaining us.
-
Brother Jim: It's not about impressing us.
-
Brother Jim: It's not about making everything comfortable.
-
Brother Jim: Oh. Feel good.
-
Brother Jim: Yes.
-
Brother Jim: Have you seen some feel good ministers out there, David?
-
David: Oh, yeah.
-
Brother Jim: Oh, yeah.
-
Brother Jim: Making you feel good.
-
Brother Jim: I'm going to tell you how to
-
Brother Jim: make money, money money money
-
Brother Jim: prosperity preaching.
-
Brother Jim: Oh my goodness.
-
Brother Jim: It's like a Baskin-Robbins.
-
Brother Jim: Back in the day.
-
Brother Jim: I forget how many flavors they had.
-
David: Thirty one.
-
Brother Jim: But you can pick what you want to listen to.
-
Brother Jim: And is that a problem, David?
-
Brother Jim: When we pick what we want to
-
Brother Jim: hear, which kind of, we can bend
-
Brother Jim: it around to make sure we're
-
Brother Jim: hearing what we want to hear,
-
Brother Jim: right?
-
Brother Jim: Instead of hearing.
-
Brother Jim: The truth is your pastor is your church preaching the truth?
-
Brother Jim: Are they inviting worship?
-
Brother Jim: Because again, worship is about God.
-
Brother Jim: True worship requires, again, this word from last week.
-
Brother Jim: It begins with an S surrender.
-
Brother Jim: Hope you guessed right.
-
Brother Jim: Romans twelve one calls us to
-
Brother Jim: offer ourselves to to God as a
-
Brother Jim: living sacrifice.
-
Brother Jim: Now I am sure in some places that could get bleeped.
-
Brother Jim: Sacrifice.
-
Brother Jim: That's not cool.
-
Brother Jim: You know how they take out
-
Brother Jim: certain words or cover them up
-
Brother Jim: now?
-
Brother Jim: Yeah, that's where worship
-
Brother Jim: becomes personal again, as we
-
Brother Jim: said, relationship.
-
Brother Jim: That is what Jesus wants because
-
Brother Jim: it's easy to sing, I surrender
-
Brother Jim: all.
-
Brother Jim: It's much harder to actually
-
Brother Jim: surrender all our time, our
-
Brother Jim: plans, our money, our
-
Brother Jim: relationships, our attitudes,
-
Brother Jim: our priorities, our routines,
-
Brother Jim: our unforgiveness, our control,
-
Brother Jim: our future.
-
Brother Jim: That is worship.
-
Brother Jim: We hit it last Tuesday.
-
Brother Jim: Again, this kind of goes hand in
-
Brother Jim: hand like peanut butter and
-
Brother Jim: jelly.
-
Brother Jim: So have we gotten away from true worship?
-
Brother Jim: Maybe the question is not simply what the church is doing.
-
Brother Jim: Oh, and we are so in tune to
-
Brother Jim: what we have our activities
-
Brother Jim: going.
-
Brother Jim: Are we not?
-
Brother Jim: David who?
-
Brother Jim: We got the big breakfast.
-
Brother Jim: Yeah.
-
Brother Jim: Big breakfast.
-
Brother Jim: I get to fill my belly.
-
Brother Jim: Oh, what do we got next?
-
Brother Jim: Oh, senior luncheon.
-
Brother Jim: Whew.
-
Brother Jim: Another meal?
-
Brother Jim: Yeah.
-
Brother Jim: Oh. Or whatever.
-
Brother Jim: You get my point.
-
Brother Jim: Yes.
-
Brother Jim: Us Methodists, we like to eat.
-
Brother Jim: But again, are we so drawn away with the distractions that we
-
Brother Jim: simply forget why we're there?
-
Brother Jim: Maybe.
-
Brother Jim: Maybe we need to ask, have I ou we become accountable?
-
Brother Jim: Have I gotten away from true worship?
-
Brother Jim: Because revival does not begin with somebody else changing.
-
Brother Jim: It begins when God changes you, when God changes me.
-
Brother Jim: Maybe today we need to stop asking what can the church do
-
Brother Jim: for me and start asking, what can I give to God?
-
Brother Jim: Church people?
-
Brother Jim: Let us not settle for going
-
Brother Jim: through the motions in a Sunday
-
Brother Jim: morning, Wednesday night
-
Brother Jim: whenever you come together, or
-
Brother Jim: better yet, in your daily life,
-
Brother Jim: let us not simply attend
-
Brother Jim: worship.
-
Brother Jim: Let's become worshipers.
-
Brother Jim: Let.
-
Brother Jim: Let's worship him with our
-
Brother Jim: voices, with our obedience, with
-
Brother Jim: our service.
-
Brother Jim: Worship.
-
Brother Jim: Let us worship him with generosity.
-
Brother Jim: Let us worship him with our love.
-
Brother Jim: Let us worship him with our entire lives.
-
Brother Jim: Because God is not looking for a perfect performance, he's
-
Brother Jim: looking for a surrendered heart.
-
Brother Jim: And maybe, maybe the greatest question we can ask ourselves
-
Brother Jim: today is this.
-
Brother Jim: When God looks at my worship, does he see my routine or does
-
Brother Jim: he see my heart?
-
Brother Jim: How about it, folks?
-
Brother Jim: I've seen a lot of dog and pony shows going on, and I've been a
-
Brother Jim: dog and pony show performer myself, just enough, David to
-
Brother Jim: get me through.
-
Brother Jim: Just enough to sneak in and sneak out.
-
Brother Jim: I'll be honest with you.
-
Brother Jim: We're a bunch of messed up people, aren't we?
-
Brother Jim: We all are.
-
Brother Jim: We're all little.
-
Brother Jim: Tutti frutti.
-
Brother Jim: If you know what I mean.
-
Brother Jim: And it doesn't help when our
-
Brother Jim: tutti frutti ness carries into
-
Brother Jim: the church.
-
Brother Jim: A lot of bad attitudes, a lot of good attitudes.
-
Brother Jim: Again, it's that balance of where does the scale fall?
-
Brother Jim: Where do you where does your own personal scale fall when it
-
Brother Jim: comes to worshipping God, when it just comes to loving, when it
-
Brother Jim: comes to being compassionate?
-
Brother Jim: What is your agenda?
-
Brother Jim: Is an agenda for God or are you self seeking in your own agenda?
-
Brother Jim: I kind of like that there.
-
Brother Jim: Alrighty.
-
Brother Jim: Before we go to prayer, David.
-
David: Yeah.
-
Brother Jim: Any closing thoughts you'd like to share with the people?
-
Brother Jim: The mass multitudes of people joining us.
-
David: Maybe we just encourage the
-
David: ladies and gentlemen to try to
-
David: set aside.
-
David: Let's start.
-
David: Easy.
-
David: Set aside ten minutes every day
-
David: just to focus on on worshiping
-
David: God.
-
David: There we go.
-
David: And then, you know, increase it.
-
David: You know, once you get that mastered, go to fifteen, then
-
David: twenty, then thirty.
-
David: And I think if nothing else, I think you'll be amazed with how
-
David: your attitude improves, if nothing else, because it's hard
-
David: to be in a bad mood when you're, you're, you're spending time
-
David: with your father, you know.
-
Brother Jim: And through spending time with your father.
-
Brother Jim: One of those old sayings, you know, when you're feeling down,
-
Brother Jim: go do something for somebody.
-
Brother Jim: Yeah.
-
Brother Jim: That's worship.
-
Brother Jim: We talked about that.
-
Brother Jim: Yeah.
-
Brother Jim: You're spending time and again, it's kind of hard not to get a
-
Brother Jim: smile on your face when you start doing something.
-
Brother Jim: Yeah.
-
Brother Jim: When you start seeing a smile on
-
Brother Jim: somebody else's face and you're
-
Brother Jim: not doing it for you, you're not
-
Brother Jim: doing it for your glory, better
-
Brother Jim: not be.
-
Brother Jim: You're doing it for God.
-
Brother Jim: You're doing it for that person.
-
Brother Jim: Yeah.
-
Brother Jim: Think of Jesus, what he did for us.
-
Brother Jim: Think how he served, how his disciples served, who?
-
Brother Jim: We got a lot of work, my friends.
-
Brother Jim: But we can do it.
-
Brother Jim: We just need to buckle down, get a little dirty.
-
Brother Jim: Yep.
-
Brother Jim: Get a little dirty.
-
Brother Jim: It's going to take a lot of hard work, but we can do it.
-
Brother Jim: But the question is, are you willing?
-
Brother Jim: AM I willing?
-
Brother Jim: Is the body of Christ the church willing to do that?
-
Brother Jim: Because, my friends, I don't know about you.
-
Brother Jim: Time is running out.
-
Brother Jim: You know, David, I had an opportunity.
-
Brother Jim: Uh. Young man.
-
Brother Jim: Good guy.
-
Brother Jim: Really like him.
-
Brother Jim: He comes out and deer hunts on a
-
Brother Jim: property, bow hunts, and opening
-
Brother Jim: day.
-
Brother Jim: He got a nice doe.
-
Brother Jim: But I, I, I was talking to him,
-
Brother Jim: and he's got two girls and a
-
Brother Jim: beautiful wife.
-
Brother Jim: And I said, hey, man, let me ask you something.
-
Brother Jim: I said, I don't want to be
-
Brother Jim: preacher to you, just talking to
-
Brother Jim: you.
-
Brother Jim: He's like, no, go ahead, man.
-
Brother Jim: I said, do you understand what's
-
Brother Jim: going to happen when Christ
-
Brother Jim: comes back?
-
Brother Jim: And he was very honest, like,
-
Brother Jim: ah, Um, a little bit, but I'm
-
Brother Jim: not sure.
-
Brother Jim: Yeah.
-
Brother Jim: And that's what I wonder, David,
-
Brother Jim: how many people out there have
-
Brother Jim: just enough knowledge, but yet
-
Brother Jim: don't understand what's going to
-
Brother Jim: happen and what can happen
-
Brother Jim: regardless when Jesus comes back
-
Brother Jim: that time now to when he comes
-
Brother Jim: back, how better your life can
-
Brother Jim: be.
-
Brother Jim: We we're just we're so
-
Brother Jim: distracted you that that was the
-
Brother Jim: wise man hit the number one word
-
Brother Jim: distracted.
-
Brother Jim: Let us pray.
-
Brother Jim: Heavenly father, we just thank you again for another day that
-
Brother Jim: we are alive, that we can serve, we can love, and we can have
-
Brother Jim: some fun doing it.
-
Brother Jim: Lord David, uh, he hit it on the head.
-
Brother Jim: Our distractions.
-
Brother Jim: What distracts us from spending time with you?
-
Brother Jim: What distracts us, distracts us from true worship.
-
Brother Jim: Lord, I pray that we seek that answer.
-
Brother Jim: Guide us.
-
Brother Jim: Lead us.
-
Brother Jim: Lord, I just pray a hedge of protection over our friends out
-
Brother Jim: there listening in their families as well their friends.
-
Brother Jim: And Lord, we, David and I both, we just pray that this little
-
Brother Jim: show we do inspires just one person out there to take a look
-
Brother Jim: at themselves and their relationship with you.
-
Brother Jim: And Lord, I pray if they don't know you as Lord and Savior, I.
-
Brother Jim: We just ask seeds to be planted.
-
Brother Jim: Let them grow and nurture to where they.
-
Brother Jim: They reach out to where they're screaming.
-
Brother Jim: They're yelling, I want this Jesus.
-
Brother Jim: I want to know this Jesus.
-
Brother Jim: I want to have Jesus in my heart and my life.
-
Brother Jim: Lord, be with our friends and we thank you for this opportunity.
-
Brother Jim: In your name, Amen.
-
Brother Jim: Alrighty.
-
Brother Jim: Well, folks, the nineteen fifties is coming to an end.
-
Brother Jim: I don't know, should we head to the nineties?
-
Brother Jim: Yeah, I mean, the forties.
-
Brother Jim: I really don't know much as far as hip hop or not hip hop, but
-
Brother Jim: the music and all.
-
Brother Jim: Yeah, I don't know.
-
Brother Jim: We'll have to decide that one.
-
Brother Jim: It's either the forties or the nineties.
-
David: Maybe they can leave a note in the comments, whether they want
-
David: us to go forties or.
-
Brother Jim: Accountability on you guys.
-
Brother Jim: That's right.
-
Brother Jim: Right.
-
Brother Jim: Ain't that right, Beauregard?
-
Brother Jim: Yeah.
-
Brother Jim: We had to change.
-
Brother Jim: Oh, man.
-
Brother Jim: You can tell it's getting late, folks.
-
David: Well, I just winter's coming, so I'm just getting prepared.
-
David: That's all.
-
David: It's on the way.
-
David: So we're.
-
David: We're ready.
-
Brother Jim: How can I finish out the show?
-
David: Maybe this was a hat from the fifties.
-
David: When did these come out?
-
David: I really don't know.
-
Brother Jim: That would be a great thing.
-
Brother Jim: Maybe someone can tell us.
-
Brother Jim: If nothing else, we can Google nineteen fifties Russia.
-
Brother Jim: Uh, but you know what, friends?
-
Brother Jim: You know what I say.
-
Brother Jim: You got me.
-
Brother Jim: You got value and you're loved.
-
Brother Jim: Never forget that God created
-
Brother Jim: you with purpose in the world is
-
Brother Jim: a better place because you're in
-
Brother Jim: it even.
-
Brother Jim: Even.
-
Brother Jim: David.
-
Brother Jim: O. I pray God continues to bless you.
-
Brother Jim: God you, strengthen you and walk beside you through every moment
-
Brother Jim: of every day.
-
Brother Jim: And may you and I continue to thank our Lord above for all the
-
Brother Jim: blessings and yes, Lord, I thank you for David.
-
Brother Jim: Even with that hat.
-
Brother Jim: I gotta break mine out here.
-
Brother Jim: Where the Bobbsey twins.
-
Brother Jim: Yes.
-
Brother Jim: And if we meet again?
-
Brother Jim: Well, then we are gonna smile.
-
Brother Jim: And we're going to rejoice together.
-
Brother Jim: And if not, well, then this parting was well made.
-
Brother Jim: Thank you for joining, David.
-
Brother Jim: My. Oh, man, there's not enough
-
Brother Jim: time to describe what this man
-
Brother Jim: is joining.
-
Brother Jim: David and myself here this morning on Bible bibs in prayer.
-
Brother Jim: And hopefully you have all made.
-
Brother Jim: You've all made in the shade.
-
Brother Jim: You have made in the shade kind of week.
-
Brother Jim: That's what I'm trying to say.
-
Brother Jim: And weekend.
-
Brother Jim: So hold your horses until next week.
-
Brother Jim: Until next time.
-
Brother Jim: This is the big guy, Brother Jim.
-
Brother Jim: Out.
