Excellent.
-
Um, today again we're going into 2 Samuel 5, and more so the focus that we're looking in here is the transition into kingship.
-
So here we're talking about uh David and all the tribes of Israel came to David.
-
We're just building upon where we've been.
-
So just kind of thinking about after years of of being pursued, rejected, tested, and and waiting, David finally experiences corporate recognition, right?
-
Amongst his people.
-
Um, and and the people say, Um, behold, where thy bone, uh, excuse me, behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.
-
They're acknowledging something important.
-
And the Lord said to them, Thou shalt salt, uh, excuse me, thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be the captain over Israel.
-
This is important because David had already been anointed previously to be king in 1 Samuel 16, but now he is uh being recognized as king.
-
And so, one thing I just kind of want to draw attention to there is a difference between being anointed for something and being positioned for something.
-
We want to be positioned, amen.
-
And so, as we're going forth, David here was anointed long before he occupied the throne.
-
The waiting was evidence that God had not forgotten him.
-
And the waiting was also preparation for the position.
-
Um, and a lot of you may have heard, um, in even on Bishop Butler, we used to say preparation is never lost time.
-
And so keep that before you, and in whatever season you're in, that you're being prepared.
-
Um, David was 30 years old when he stepped into his reign.
-
Right now, 30 is very significant in scripture because it's also the age associated with entering from um entering to a certain form of maturity.
-
Okay.
-
Jesus began his public ministry, of course, around the age of 30.
-
Um, Joseph um governed his uh enters his government assignment at 30.
-
David, again, enters kingship at 30, 30 is significant.
-
This is not necessarily that everyone must wait until 30 in its significance, but it is a time when we speak about maturity.
-
God develops capacity before he expands responsibility.
-
Now, even beyond the number 30, I want us to glean to that because we were talking about positioning, but even within the positioning, we must have the capacity that before we step into um the what God has for us.
-
So we may receive um, you may receive a promise before you actually possess the position.
-
So we thank God that He's cultivating us.
-
And in the same sense, just like David, you may receive the vision before you have the infrastructure, right?
-
Um you may receive the calling before, again, you have the capacity.
-
So the development season, again, is not wasted time, it's a part of that preparation, uh, which also is going into capacity.
-
So there's levels to it.
-
Give yourself grace when you're thinking about, you know, we don't have a microwave oven society.
-
And of course, things didn't just happen then for David.
-
But as we look into the word, we have to say to ourselves, and what um is this one of my seasons where I'm being developed?
-
Hey, I may not see things as I thought I would, but it is a uh this may be a development season, and again, that time is not wasted.
-
All right, so just kind of going into just a transition of scripture, going into like excuse me, uh verses six and six through nine, David captures Jerusalem.
-
So David then moves against Jerusalem, and the city was like strategically um important because um it was a location of like defensibility.
-
David captures the stronghold of Zion and establishes a city there.
-
Now, let's kind of go back there a little bit.
-
This is very significant because David doesn't merely receive a title, right?
-
Once again, I mentioned he moves against Jerusalem, he establishes a territory.
-
So here's a difference again.
-
There is a difference between him, David being I'm called, and I am building what I've been called to build, right?
-
So David moves from just the identity into the authority, now taking on the territory to now establish what he's been called to do, and that very much happens similar in our lives from a day-to-day basis.
-
So David is going on, he's um waxed greater and greater, and in 2 Samuel 5 and 10 it says, and David went on and grew great, and that and the Lord God of hosts was with him.
-
Notice what comes first.
-
David's not David's strategy, not David's strength, not David's network.
-
The Lord God of hosts was with him.
-
David's greatness was connected to God's presence.
-
All right.
-
This connects directly, you know, into John 15, where of course Jesus says, Abide in me, right?
-
David's story even demonstrates this same principle through leadership.
-
Presence precedes power.
-
So even you being on the call today, the prayer time that you have, um, you know, outside of this call, the the when you're praying in the spirit throughout the day, amen, seeking first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, amen.
-
Your the presence, your presence proceeds with God, precedes the power that, amen, you're able to walk in what he's called you to establish.
-
And so, um, just kind of in a sense of closing, there was um David had an assignment, and there's a a king name, is it Tyree?
-
He's in Hiram is a king of Tyree, and he sends him for uh cedar and carpenter uh and mansions and masons, excuse me, um, to build a house, to build David a house.
-
And so this was fascinating to me because David didn't have to manufacture every resource himself, and it reminds me of us generally trying to be self-sufficient opposed to God dependent, but we're gonna get into that.
-
Once he enters the appropriate season and position, resource began moving toward the assignment.
-
I'm gonna say that again.
-
Once he entered the appropriate season, David, and position, resources began moving toward the assignment.
-
That doesn't mean sit back and do nothing.
-
What it means is when God establishes the assignment, he also established the relationship and resources necessary to advance it, to move it forward, to make sure that it gets done.
-
This is powerful in leadership because you don't necessarily need more resources first, you need to be have greater alignment first.
-
All right, we're going back to that abide in me, right?
-
So David perceived that the Lord had established him.
-
And so David in the scripture mentions, and David perceived that the Lord had established him to be king over Israel.
-
Again, now we're looking at, hey, I'm not just successful, God established me.
-
This is him being humble.
-
This is a humility of saying success should uh increase your awareness of God's involvement, it should decrease it.
-
We hear and we reference about going from glory to glory, faith to faith, strength to strength.
-
As you're going to the next level, as you're going and stepping into that place that God established you, you should be more aware of God's involvement and everything around you.
-
Um we often hear that we hear and we know in the word that all promotion comes from God, every good and perfect gift comes from God, all of our help comes from the Lord.
-
But the actual happening of things pulling together, we want to make sure as well.
-
We're sensitive to make sure we continue to give God glory, for it is his positioning and his establishment to call those things forth.
-
So in all this beauty in the story, I'm just kind of referencing in this chapter of 2 Samuel 5.
-
You know, there's a a lot of acknowledgement of the steps that David is walking into, but then the enemy shows up, right?
-
There, and and this isn't this is powerful because the Philistines um hear David has been made king, and they come looking for him.
-
Why?
-
Um, in Samuel for uh 2 Samuel 5, 17, because increased authority attracts increased opposition.
-
You gotta know it before you before you get started, so you can know how to fight well in the spirit.
-
David's promotion didn't eliminate warfare, it changed the level of warfare.
-
But notice David's response in the scripture, he doesn't immediately attack, he inquires the of the Lord.
-
And this is in verse 19, and it says, And David inquired of the Lord.
-
David had experience, he had fought battles before, he knew warfare, and he could have just said, you know, I got this, I've done this.
-
But he instead went to God and said, What do you want me to do?
-
How do you want me to handle this?
-
Show me the way, right?
-
Still operating in the same biblical processes and principles that God asks us to do now, today.
-
So when God gave David a strategy, God tells David to go up.
-
David defeats the Philistines, and then something interesting happens, the Philistines return, the same enemy, a different battle.
-
And David asks God again, this time, God, give me a completely different strategy.
-
And he and and God tells David, Thou shalt not go up.
-
You gotta make sure you check with God every time.
-
Instead, God gives instructions to David to circle around them and wait for the sound of the mulberry trees.
-
And then thou shalt saw uh salt best of thyself.
-
In other words, he said, Move when I move, right?
-
So as we're going into just thinking about our day, um, it's so important just to get a revelation on that every David had already won every battle first simply because he didn't assume yesterday's strategy was today's strategy.
-
He went before God with every situation in this context, and God gave him the victory.
-
So just keep in mind as we're going into prayer that we want to make sure that we are going through and trusting God, his timing, his patience, excuse me, his timing and us being patients, and the transition into kingship.
-
Whatever God has called us to do, he establishes a direction, he gives us uh the alignment.
-
Our goal is to be aligned to what he's told us to do.
-
And I yield.
