Father, we just thank you for this word this morning.

We thank you for your presence in this place.

We thank you that we are loved.

We thank you that in your presence is fullness of joy and life forevermore.

Lord, you didn't come to rob, kill, steal, or destroy.

That's where the enemy came.

You came to give us life.

And life to abundance.

So, Father, we thank you for the good news of the gospel.

It's good news to us.

As we open up our ears, Lord, to be able to receive today the good news in Jesus' name.

Amen.

Thank you for leading us.

What a great worship team we have.

Let's command to come on.

Turn to your neighbor and say, You're a minister.

You're a minister.

Come on.

You're a minister of the good news.

There's not just one minister in this house.

I am a minister, but every one of us are ministers in this house.

And we may have a different role.

We may have a different gift or style or skill set.

Some are good at leading in worship.

How many of you are grateful for Jamin?

And we've got guys on our media team in front of house and in our kids' program in our coffee ministry.

God bless the coffee ministry.

Not just because my wife is a part of it, but just double blessings, Lord, upon them.

We just know that there's so much value in ministry, what you're and exercising your gift and exercising your purpose in the church.

So when we look at the style of ministry and the means of ministry and the ministry mindset that Jesus approached with his disciples and how he encouraged them to move, we want to emulate that same ministry mindset.

So when Jesus sent out the 72, he gave them instructions, and we're walking through each of those instructions.

First of all, he said he sent them out two by two.

And so when they went out, they were with someone, and everyone ought to be with someone.

You need to have someone ahead of you, someone beside you, and someone behind you.

You're working with a Timothy, someone who you're raising up, and someone who you're looking and aspiring from.

Each one of us needs to have someone to draw from.

We need spiritual mothers in the house, we need spiritual grandmothers in the house.

We need people who have gone before, people who are walking the walk, and people who are coming, coming up.

We need someone in our life coaching, leading, helping, challenging us.

And then we need to regard our foundation.

So I spoke one week on looking down.

And I said, you need to dig down deep.

You need to see where your foundation is has been uh rooted in.

Is it just in sand, or have you found the rock of your salvation?

Have you found the rock?

And are you building on that rock?

And then you don't just build a hole to find a foundation.

You start, you look down and then you look up because Jesus said to his disciples, he said, or to those he was sending out into ministry, he said, the harvest is plentiful, abundant, but you gotta see it, and you've got to go out after it.

And so he didn't say it's gonna be hard.

In fact, he said the first thing, he said, it's abundant, it's there.

He's he's got a harvest for us all.

And right now we're in the middle of harvest season in the Okanagan for some fruits, and uh you can just see the harvest that's available.

So we look down and we look up, and today we're gonna be talking about kneeling down, the importance of prayer.

So when you approach a field and when you're approaching the harvest, uh you the first thing you should do is actually talk to the one in charge of the field, because they're the ones who actually know the field.

They know what is produced in certain spaces and places, they know what's ready to be harvested.

So you talk to the grower, you talk to the one who's in charge of the field.

So in this space here, if we slow down enough to actually hear the second half of the scripture, uh we spent on last week, we'll know the importance of actually speaking to the grower.

So, Luke chapter 10, verse 2, and this is where we are right now, re-going through Luke 10 in the ministry mindset.

Luke 10:2

He says he told them, the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.

Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into the harvest field.

So we had 72 people, Jesus setting the scene, has 72 people with him, and at that point he's telling him the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers, we haven't got enough of them.

The laborers are few, the crew is small, and if and if I were standing there at that time, at like many uh driven, kind of leadership-driven individuals, you would immediately start, okay, this is what we're gonna do.

Strategize, we're gonna build together a plan, we're going to organize, we're gonna recruit more workers, we're gonna send out a marketing campaign, we're gonna like, we know the harvest is plentiful, so what are we gonna do?

Find more workers, and this is how we're gonna do it through our own effort.

Instead, Jesus doesn't say to organize first, he doesn't say to recruit, he doesn't say to go market, he doesn't go say strategize, he says get on your knees and pray.

Pray first.

Leadership naturally pushes us towards activity.

Leadership often pushes us, pushes us to strategy, decision making, problem solving.

All that activity is generally in our mindset.

How many of you love to act?

Only no one here likes to act.

Who likes to act?

I like to see action.

Action, action makes a difference.

But Jesus says, I want you to slow down, and sometimes that can be hard.

To slow down, to step back, to consider first what God's agenda is and God's plan is in the moment.

We just want to get busy, fix the problem.

How many men out there like to fix the problem?

We just like to we like to make the problem, all right?

Break the problem, fix the problem.

We want to do it, we want to get active.

And we think it's in it's actually a noble purpose and a noble cause.

Go for it, get the work done, get stuff done.

But instead, there's a word in this portion of scripture where it says, therefore, therefore.

Most of us read right past it, but it says, because the harvest is plentiful, because the laborers are flu are few, ask the Lord of the harvest therefore to send out laborers.

Prayer is not what Jesus says after the plan actually is failing.

Prayer is actually the plan.

We need to sit on that for just a moment.

Prayer is the plan.

Prayer is the plan.

Prayer is the plan.

There's a lot that goes into, I don't know if many of you have heard of the pre-down principle where 80% of our activity, if you spend 20% of your time actually considering the decision, it'll take 80% work to get it done.

But if you spend 80% of the time actually uh you know planning, it only takes 20% work to get it done.

And sometimes we can create our own blueprint without going to the one whose field it is.

We're working in a harvest field, we're working a field, we're working in a space where we're using an agricultural term, or Jesus is using an agriculture term here.

He's saying the harvest is plentiful, and we're like, okay, we're gonna go to work, but we don't know anything about the harvest.

So you're just gonna go to work?

Sure, we'll figure it out.

How many of you know people like that?

We're gonna build a business first.

What's the plan?

I don't know, we'll figure out the business later, the business of the business, but we're just gonna build a business.

He's like, don't start with the graphic or the watermark or the label or the brand.

He says, go talk to the one who owns the field.

Get his plan, and then you can go to work.

First, he says, ask, and that isn't a casual word.

When you read it in scripture, we just say, we just read over, ask the Lord of the harvest.

But this is the kind of asking that is more closely related to the word pleading.

Uh, it means to be urgent or fervent in your asking.

This is the prayers, the fervent prayers of a righteous man avail much and are mighty in power.

And I know that we can throw up prayers and they can be less than fervent.

Prayers that are just uh announcements before God instead of the fervently that actually happens because a soul is engaged in prayer.

Prayer is more than just asking.

It's Lord, we are in over our heads, we don't know what to do, we need your help.

We need it now because the harvest is plentiful, the ministry is abundant, the opportunities are there, but the labors are few.

And we need your solution to this situation.

The second word there is the word send, where we highlight that word, and that word send is more like uh the way the way uh I think about the way our kids say it right now.

Just send it.

You know, just send it, just go, just launch, just throw the word means to thrust out, to launch out, to cast out.

It's the same word that where Jesus uh sent, he actually um spoke against uh like he's he called the I don't know how to put it where he sent out the demonic, where if the he called the the demon out.

He sent it out, he cast it out, he threw it out, he launched it out, he said, out.

That's the way we're the word is here.

It says we come before God and we ask him to send out to launch out laborers into the field.

He's telling them to pray that God would launch people out into the field, and that the good news is that when God sends you out, he equips you to send you out.

So when God sends you out, he gives you a vision, but not only does he give you the vision, he gives you the provision for the vision.

He gives you the resource, the capacity, the ability, the endurance, the resolve to be able to commit to do it.

So in this scripture, the challenge is first to go to prayer, to pray first.

Would you just say pray first?

Pray first.

Now, the good news about Jesus is that he doesn't tell you to do something that he hasn't done himself.

And so we go back a few scriptures before he tells us to pray first, and we look at how Jesus began to pray first.

In Luke chapter 6, verse 12 and 13, it says, one of the days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray.

Luke 6:12

He spent the night praying to God.

Jesus spent the whole night praying to God.

And when the morning came, he called his disciples in and he chose twelve of them.

So he chose, the way he chose his own disciples was through a night of prayer.

Where did Jesus go first?

Did he go to strategize?

No, he went to prayer.

He prayed first, so he's telling us before we do anything, before we go into ministry, before we go into our day, what should we be doing?

Praying.

Pray first.

Get the heart of God now that you can see the asking and the fervency.

All night he prayed until the morning came.

Man, I don't know what it's.

I don't remember the last time I've prayed all night.

One of my uh mentors, he used to have a trouble getting up in the morning to pray.

So he would have a bowl, like a a pot of like cold water beside his bed.

And he would swing his legs over and he'd put his feet in the cold water in the first thing in the morning to wake himself up to pray.

I'll tell you, that's fervency.

As a Nigerian in a in the Ukraine, he had to cover himself up in his bed so that he wouldn't be exposed to be able to be reading scripture.

He'd have it while he was in university, he would have to read in private and study in private and study scripture in private.

He was like, so you talk to him about what it means to prayer, pray.

It was a lifeline, and it was a fervency in his prayer, and it and a dedication and a sacrifice to say, I'm gonna get up and I'm gonna do this.

And so the first response, his first response is prayer.

It's not the the last resort.

And let me be honest about how most of us see prayer.

The most of us see prayer the way we see the uh fire extinguisher that's on the wall.

We walk by it, and we're like, we don't think about it until what?

There's a fire.

And then it says, in an emergency, break the glass, pull out that fire extinguisher, and put out the fire.

And we're like, whoo! Thank God for prayer.

And it becomes our our last resort and not our first response.

It's not the first thing we do, it's the last thing we do in response to the stuff that's happening to us instead of using prayer to create a way for us.

Jesus flipped the whole script about what we consider prayer naturally.

And prayer is not what happens when you run out of all your options.

Prayer is the thing you do before you even have an option, so that you're walking in the right direction.

We shared that uh that scripture today, Lindsey.

Uh Lindsay shared it, you know, to trust in the Lord.

Lean not on your own understanding.

In all your ways, acknowledge him and he will make your path straight.

How do you do that?

You've got to go to prayer first, or else you're leaning on your own understanding.

So lean on his understanding, lean on him first, trust in his ways before you do any of your ways, and then the road will be made straight.

Strategies, work that we've done, things that we've built, uh often are things that God never gave us the direction or the blueprint to do.

Because we didn't go to Him first.

And that's why prayer isn't just a ministry, it's not like a department in the church.

We're part of a prayer team.

All of us need to be a part of prayer.

Prayer needs to be a part of our lifestyle.

We are the prayer ministry.

There isn't like a core group of prayer ministry people, a prayer department.

No, we are all the prayer department.

Not your neighbors say you're in the ministry of prayer, you're in the ministry of prayer today.

KCC is not prayer at KCC is not preparation for ministry, it's prayer is the ministry.

Prayer is the work.

When you came in, you come praying to church.

When you come into worship, you're in worship.

You may be singing, but you're in prayer.

When you're in the middle of the service, you're praying.

Praying for the Lord to like deposit into your life and into your heart and into the church, you're in prayer.

When you leave, you're in prayer.

And that's why the scripture says, pray without ceasing.

Don't ever stop praying.

Walk in prayer.

And if you don't know what to pray, pray in the spirit and let the spirit pray through you.

And sometimes that means you sound a little shooby-doobie.

And you might be praying, yabba dabbadoo.

Who stole my Hyundai?

And all like it, it's it's actually allowing God to pray through.

And I'm joking about it, but when I was, I remember walking to the bus stop.

My life was so difficult.

I had to walk to the bus stop to get driven to church to school.

And I remember learning how to pray in the spirit, and I prayed by walking through the alphabet.

And I prayed the spirit.

I prayed in the spirit.

I spent time with God.

I gave margin in my day, walking to school with my backpack, and I would learn to pray in the spirit because I didn't know how to pray in the spirit.

You want a demo?

Oh man.

When you pray in the spirit, I you can stand up front with me and you'll hear me pray in the spirit.

If there's a song I don't know, I pray in the spirit.

It's singing, it's making melody in your heart.

It's engaging with holy, holy.

It's engaging with God.

The harvest belongs to God.

He gives uh He's giving us the first assignment, which is prayer.

So your ministry, the first thing you do in your ministry is prayer.

It is your first assignment.

Because the field belongs to him, the harvest belongs to him, the workers belong to him, the room belongs to him, this place belongs to him, this facility belongs to him, the society, the property.

It's all his.

So I go to him first because it belongs to him.

To do anything else would be uh removing him from his authority and his preeminence in this place and in my life.

We are not the ones in control.

Oftentimes people say I don't pray because my calendar doesn't like provide me space for it, but it's not a matter of your calendar, it's a matter often of our control.

We don't want to go to God because it takes us.

out of my court and my ability and my my mark my room to pray so we pray without we pray in that space uh this uh this week we had a small group a connect group and kinet groups are still open for people to join but uh you might be and and I'm sorry if this comes across this way but oftentimes in church sometimes you can come and you can feel like oh the pastor's just giving me one thing to do now he's telling me to stay up all night in prayer I can barely like get up in the morning and go to work and you know you're just feeling like one more thing Pastor Brody that's why I don't go to church anymore because I just feel like he's dumping on me all this stuff.

But in reality prayer you know prayer makes a difference for you and prayer is like that's where you find the joy of the Lord becomes your strength when you find him and peace becomes you you don't have to spend your energy finding it in other places when you have it with him.

Nehemiah a great example we ran through it through small group this week Nehemiah is heard uh heard uh from one of his uh I don't know if the scripture says it's a relative but it it comes from Jerusalem and the relative tells Nehemiah Nehemiah well Nehemiah as he's asking for an update what's it like in Jerusalem and Nehemiah is hundreds of miles away in Persia serving the king serving the king of Persia as a cupbearer do you know what a cupbearer is someone who drinks the wine or drinks the drink and makes sure that it's not poison before giving it to the king.

Like he is not in a place of value or like he's disposable like oh this one's not good I'm done but he's working for the king as a as a virtually as a disposable agent and he hears about what's happening in Jerusalem.

He says the walls are down the gates have been burned the people of Jerusalem are in disgrace and they're like impoverished and they're struggling and they're in great trouble.

And man that gets to Nehemiah's heart.

Even though he's hundreds of miles away he's like God and God puts in him a vision a belief for something a burden for something and he begins the scripture says like a right away you want the first thing you want to do is is just act I'm gonna fix this I've got access to the king right here.

I'm gonna talk to him right now.

But instead what does the scripture say he does the first thing he does the Bible says is he sits with his emotion for a bit he recognizes what he feels he carries it.

The Bible then says he weeps then he fasts and then he prays and his prayer is like such a tactical prayer you can read it in Nehemiah chapter 1 verse 1 to 11 he reminds God of his covenant he recognizes the consequence of his own sin.

Nehemiah 1 · chapter mention

He he confesses to God how he was wrong and not only how he was wrong but his father was wrong and his father's father was wrong.

And then he reminds God of his commitment to the Jewish people and he asks God to use him and provide a way for him.

So he prays first and so that was like a moment of time a long prayer and I think our life has got to be made up of sometimes those long prayers where we've got to like take time and process with God God I need time to pray like I need time to be with you.

I need time to wrestle these things through with you.

I got to get up and be with you today.

I need a solution but it's gonna be a long prayer but then there are also the short prayers so he's standing there with the king probably holding a cup and his face is down.

The Bible says his face he looked he was carrying a burden for Jerusalem and the king asks him what's going on with you why are you feeling so down and then the king says to him the king says to him what can I do for you and read the scripture with me if you can it's in Nehemiah chapter 2 verse 4 and 5 it says the king said to me what is it you want he says then I prayed to the God of heaven and I answered the king that was a two-second prayer before he even answered the king he said he prayed to God and then he answered the king our life has got to be made up of those long times in prayer and those short moments of prayer and sometimes we just need God now.

Lord I need your help Lord I'm dealing with something with my kids my wife my husband family boss people work life and in these times of prayer we need to be able to fill the gaps fill the moments that whole difference that happened in Jerusalem happened because of a two second prayer Lord help give me wisdom show me show me what I need to do I have no idea what to say in this moment but help me living with that place of prayer there's a fellow from the 1600s his name was brother Lawrence you know everyone in the 1600s was brother something brother sister something brother Lawrence and he spent most of his life working actually in a monastery a monastery kitchen and he was uh dealing with pots pans dishes and he became famous hundreds of years later for learning how to talk to God and reading while and it was while he scrubbed dishes he didn't wait until the dishes were done to pray he actually like talked to God while he was working my grandpa used to work at a mill and he would talk to God while he was working at the mill flipping boards moving lumber moving with God day in day out the dishes brother Lawrence the dishes became his prayer and if you're interested you can read his book that became famous after he died hundreds of years later on practicing how to practice the presence of God regardless of your environment oftentimes we wait for a special room oftentimes we wait for a special moment or a special unction but you can move in prayer with God at any moment and at any time and I learned to pray first I learned in those moments to just to go to God first in every situation at every time in every moment at every opportunity pray first and Jesus is saying here full circle he's saying I'm sending you out into a harvest and we've got a challenge it's not a picker problem it's or it's not a produce problem it's a picker problem we haven't got enough people picking the harvest and I need you to go out be the solution but I need you to go out praying prayer is your first and final response later on in the scripture when the people the 72 that were sent out come back as soon as they come back to where Jesus is Jesus stops them and he begins to pray with them.

So not only did he launch their ministry in prayer but he closed their ministry in prayer.

And he prayed for them while they were coming and while they were going and now Jesus not only did he send us in prayer but he's now continuing to pray for us even in heaven as he sits beside the Father interceding on our behalf interceding for us making intercession for us and each one of your prayers is valuable before the Lord.

Each one of your prayers is stored in heaven each one of your prayers is heard by God so we don't stop praying He hears our prayer He knows our heart He hears us when we pray so all we can do is we know God will hear us.

So learn how and we learn together how to build that fervency and that consistency and that commitment to prayer look for the time and I call it praying in the gap have you got a moment pray have you got a thought pray has have you got a person pray pray for people pray for them by name Simon Jesus said of Simon he said Simon Simon Simon I pray for you that the enemy won't sift you like wheat I pray for you that the Lord will build on you something strong inside and in your spirit I pray for you who have we got in your life in our lives who's praying for us and who are we praying for know them by name pray for them by name allow that to connect you to them by name we have so many people that we can pray for oftentimes people say we can pray for Africa and today we can't pray for Africa.

We've got a Francine with us today from Africa is one of our missionaries welcome back home I don't know where Larry is but you guys are still together right yeah that's right Larry Larry is here today welcome Larry Larry welcome if you haven't got people to pray for pray for Larry and Francie pray for the work that they're doing in Kenya pray for their safety think about them often in the gap pray for them think about them and pray and and believe for their their safety their security their their favor the resource their health pray for them and God gives us the opportunity to engage if sometimes we can't go not all of us are called to go but uh and not all and sometimes we can give and but all of us you know sometimes we we look at what we can give and and and then we say well Lord what else can we give and we we can go to prayer and we can give our prayer and spend our time in prayer and lift people up in prayer and go to God in prayer.

Pray first not as a last resort but as our first response pray pray pray amen father we just thank you this morning we thank you thank you thank you would you say thank you make that your prayer today thank you make that your fervent prayer that that ask that that that call out to God thank you thank you Lord we just send out that thank you prayer today for your love towards us we thank you Lord that your banner over us is love we thank you that your banner over us is peace we thank you Lord that it's victory banner over us is victory for those in this room today who are chat are facing obstacles challenges giants we announce today victory that's our prayer victory today in the name of Jesus we thank you Lord for this opportunity this gift of prayer we thank you Lord that each of us have the opportunity to pray and and that you are close even today for Sandy to the brokenhearted to those who are grieving we thank you Lord that you are close to her today thank you father during a loss we are thankful Lord that she's not alone that you're with her thank you you're as close as the whisper of your name we thank you Lord we thank you that you're not so you're so simple you say you said that the you confound the wisdom the wisdom of the wise like the you make the wise men confound it because of how simple you are Lord you make this easy for us to approach your throne of grace with boldness to come before you because we're loved by you because the way has been paved because of the cross we thank you for the blood of Jesus we thank you we can approach you Lord today freely and confidently and boldly thank you Father for being with us would you just take a moment let's stand together and let's just pray just activate your heart in prayer today and just just give him thanks make a prayer of thanksgiving prayer of thanksgiving prayer of appreciation thank you Lord thank you Lord thank you Lord thank you Lord hallelujah shundarabo satarabashandei Paul prayed for his the people that were under his care in the church he said I pray that your love may abound I pray that over you today church I pray that your love may abound that you may be the most loving people amen in your homes in your place of business in your community in every place you go that it would be filled and flowing with love that you would abound in love even to the unloving even to those who want to reject it that you would abound in love the love of Christ would be in you flowing through you I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened that your heart would be full of light that you would be awake to how good God is in his plans for you in his plans for your future and for you your family I thank you Father I keep asking God that he would give you wisdom today wisdom that you would not walk ignorant of him but that you may know him know his thoughts know his thoughts towards you know his thoughts in life know his thoughts and that your soul may delight in him your emotions your mind would would would would celebrate and reminisce and and remember the goodness of God and may it work within your soul in converting your soul to praise and thanksgiving your soul would praise God and your body would just follow amen thank you father if you're in the room today and you've never had opportunity to receive Jesus and that gift of salvation for you and for your life and accept that gift of salvation I want to pray with you today and with every head bow and eye closed just between you and I in this room if you're here today you want to accept Jesus into your life and have that relationship and that that genesis moment that beginning moment in your relationship with him if you if you're in the room today just raise your hand really nice and tall really nice and tall that's good is there anyone else in this room anyone in this room we don't want you to leave without knowing Jesus amen father let's pray together as a church father we accept today that free gift of salvation it's not by our works but it's by our faith and our belief that you died on the cross for my sins and today I confess that I've lived my own life and done my own way and today I accept that gift of salvation and I make you my Lord and make you my savior fill me with your spirit in Jesus' name amen let's give the Lord a round of applause today I'm gonna invite the team would you we're just gonna close with a a little bit of uh a song and then I'll come and bless you.
