From Hunted to HUNTER: How to BATTLE a Stronghold | Pastor Drew

-
We are in the middle of a series called
-
Hunting Phoenix and it is all about
-
defeating the the lies and the sins that
-
just keep on coming back. These are
-
strongholds in our life. And this is our
-
opportunity. And it reminds me about
-
when Morgan and I first got married and
-
I was so excited about marrying my best
-
friend. Y'all marry your best friend,
-
okay? Like it is just it's so fun if you
-
can learn how to be friends as you
-
before you even start dating. It's such
-
a joy to get like I love spending time
-
with my wife. And one of my expressions
-
of this when we first got married was uh
-
when we lived in this little 700 square
-
foot apartment. Any time that we'd be
-
walking somewhere within the apartment
-
from one room to the next, I would sneak
-
around the corner,
-
wait for her to come, and then
-
and guys, she gave the best reactions.
-
She would scream. She would right like
-
slap me. She would hold nine yards. It
-
was so fun. And then she'd say, "Stop."
-
And then I do it again 30 seconds later
-
and again and again and again. And
-
eventually then what I started doing is
-
I started sneaking around the corner and
-
then running over to the couch and just
-
doing nothing. And she's like, "Drew,
-
don't you don't you dare scare me around
-
this corner. Stop it. Don't do it." She
-
and she sees me and I'm just sitting on
-
the couch silently. So she doesn't know
-
where I'm at. She's like, "I hate you."
-
Right? And she eventually she came to me
-
and she said, "Babe, I want you to know,
-
I don't like that."
-
And it's not like a cute little, "Oh,
-
stop it." Like that. It's like, "I don't
-
like that at all. It's not funny to me.
-
It's not cute. It's not I need you to
-
stop." And I reluctantly stopped
-
because I recognized that it is kind of
-
like like we live our lives with sin
-
like that. Like I don't know when it's
-
hiding around the next corner. I don't
-
know where like am I about to get am I
-
about to get attacked? Am I under attack
-
right now? Like I I always have this
-
thing that feels like it's about to come
-
at me again. And that's what we're
-
talking about today. We're talking about
-
the the moving from hunted to hunter and
-
moving from this idea of I the this
-
giant flaming phoenix bird is coming and
-
hunting after me and now instead I am
-
flipping the script. And we've talked
-
about this in a few different ways.
-
We've talked about first of all coming
-
broken, coming weak. that you cannot do
-
this without Jesus. You will not be able
-
to overcome the strongholds, the things
-
that just keep coming back without
-
absolutely soaking this thing in prayer.
-
And then last week, we talked about how
-
to catch our sin or the triggers, how to
-
identify the actual power, the
-
authority, and the lie that's going on
-
inside of my heart, and then how to
-
confess that not just to the Lord, but
-
to an ally. If you missed the message
-
last week, please go back and listen to
-
that one. If you want to see a victory
-
in your strongholds, in your life, you
-
can't skip that step. It's the most
-
uncomfortable one. It's the one that you
-
will have the most excuses to avoid. And
-
I promise you, that's because the enemy
-
wants to be able to keep this stronghold
-
in your life. And then we talked uh
-
about the whole idea of like sins or
-
sometimes it even just looks like a
-
trigger that causes me. Uh but I I want
-
I want for us to have this if you're if
-
you're going through this and you're
-
like this series is for me a thousand%
-
in whatever capacity it may be. It may
-
be an addiction that you have. It may be
-
a stronghold that you can see. It may be
-
a trigger that just keeps on showing up.
-
I want to encourage you to take a little
-
inventory
-
on these trigger moments on what's
-
happening when suddenly the temptation
-
is strong. What am I experiencing? Am I
-
experiencing stress, anger? We're going
-
to talk more about this about how to
-
take that inventory. And then the
-
inventory of the lies. What's the thing
-
that I'm believing? What's the thing
-
that I'm comforting myself with with
-
this idea that ah it's not going to
-
happen because you're not good enough.
-
What's the idea that that and what's the
-
counter truth? And use your ally in
-
this. Use the people alongside of you
-
that that can help to ask the wise and
-
help you to discern. Use a Christian
-
counselor to come alongside you, a
-
therapist, use a pastor or a spiritual
-
leader, uh a a group host to be able to
-
come alongside you and help you to
-
discern what's going on in this
-
spiritual battle. Uh because Genesis 4:7
-
describes sin like this. says, "Sin is
-
crouching at your door right around the
-
corner, right? It desires to have you,
-
but you must rule over it."
-
So Christ, his death, burial, and
-
resurrection gave us the authority to be
-
able to, but it is still now the
-
authority is in your hands to rule over
-
the sin that is in your life. the
-
triggers, the things that are that that
-
cause me to submit to the plans of the
-
enemy instead of the plans of the
-
father. And what we need to recognize is
-
that this is not an addiction issue.
-
This is a spiritual issue. This is not a
-
habit issue. This is a demonic there's a
-
a spiritual component to this. And
-
here's the unfortunate reality.
-
The reality is Satan is bigger than you,
-
stronger than you. He's smarter than
-
you. He's more devious than you. And
-
he's been doing this for a lot longer
-
than you have.
-
You don't stand a chance trying to fight
-
the demonic on your own.
-
This is why in Ephesians chapter 6
-
verse 10, this is what the Apostle Paul
-
says when he's talking about spiritual
-
warfare, overcoming these things in the
-
plans of the enemy. Final word, be
-
strong in the Lord. Be strong. Fight the
-
enemy on your own. Uh-uh.
-
This is way too big for you. Be strong
-
in the
-
>> in the Lord and in whose
-
his mighty power. Put on all of God's
-
armor so that you will be able to stand
-
firm against the strategies of this
-
powerful enemy, the devil. For we are
-
not fighting a battle against flesh and
-
blood. We are not fighting something
-
that we can attack with swords and guns
-
and gloves. We can't do that. This is
-
not We can swing as much as we want and
-
it's not going to do anything. In this
-
battle, we are not fighting against
-
flesh and blood enemies, but against
-
evil rulers, against authorities of the
-
unseen world, against mighty powers of
-
this dark world, and against evil
-
spirits in the heavenly places. I don't
-
even know where to aim if I'm punching
-
right. And my punch, even if it lands,
-
it ain't going to do a thing. The whole
-
reality of I've got to learn how to
-
fight this thing in a different way.
-
I've got to move from the one that's
-
being hunted, sin is crouching at your
-
door, but instead now I will overcome. I
-
will be the one to carry authority over
-
the sin in my life in the areas that I
-
want to see victory in. And that's my
-
prayer collective. Why are we talking
-
about sin for an entire series? Because
-
I desperately want to see you, every
-
single one of us living in freedom.
-
sin. There's there's this correlation
-
between sin uh the the the sinful life
-
and the life of righteousness. And Paul
-
says, "Ah, this isn't a great
-
illustration, but it's kind of like
-
being a slave either way." You're either
-
a slave to sin and you're bound with
-
these chains inside of a cell that you
-
can't get out of by your own power. Or
-
you choose righteousness and you're
-
like, "No, no, no. Now I've set my I've
-
got these boundaries of righteousness,
-
of following the Lord. I've got these
-
new ways that I do things and I it
-
sometimes feels almost like slay like
-
I'm stuck doing just this stuff. But
-
here's the thing, the keys always in
-
your pocket at all times where God's
-
like, you can leave. You can abandon
-
this thing whenever you want. You can
-
ditch this whenever you want. That is
-
true. I got freedom over here. I am
-
stuck and trapped and being led into
-
death when I submit to sin and allow for
-
it to have authority in my life.
-
For me, I've shared this a little bit
-
and I want to dive a little deeper into
-
this. I've got a lot of areas in my
-
heart that has had triggers, that has
-
had uh lies that I believe from the
-
enemy. But probably one of the biggest
-
surface area sins, addictions that I
-
have faced in my life was with
-
pornography from 7th grade to uh
-
sophomore year in college. And uh I I'm
-
going to talk openly about this. And so
-
I always say, I've said this before, we
-
have an amazing kids ministry. Uh if you
-
if you're like, I don't want my kids to
-
be hearing this, check your kids in
-
right now. Say, Pastor Drew told me I
-
could, even if it's too late, right?
-
Like uh because I want to talk openly
-
about one of the more shameful uh
-
struggles that I've had in my life. So
-
it was seventh grade and I was
-
introduced to pornography and by a
-
fellow athlete uh uh friend of mine,
-
acquaintance of mine and it started this
-
I probably it liked pornography for
-
about like three months
-
and then I started to see the decay of
-
my soul from it
-
and I I felt the conviction
-
I felt the the death within in me and I
-
go, I don't want this thing. And I
-
started to fight it. And I fought it a
-
lot of different ways, all of them
-
unsuccessful. For seven years,
-
I tried. I'd have seasons of success and
-
then I'd fall back into it. I had I I
-
started to see success uh with with this
-
church group that I was in and these
-
other guys that were helping to be
-
allies together. And then we moved and
-
I'm stuck in this place where I don't I
-
don't know if I have as many Christian
-
friends and and I just feel really
-
depressed and I'm just all this stuff
-
and I fell back into the sin and I just
-
I submitted to that thing and I would
-
fight it again and again and again and I
-
remember my sophomore year of college I
-
was talking with someone about this
-
addiction about this problem about how I
-
couldn't get over it and I'd always find
-
ways around these these little cheats
-
and and I went to a Christian college
-
and so on the the Wi-Fi network there.
-
You couldn't even access this these
-
sites. And I'd try to find ways to get
-
around that. And and all and and this
-
person I was talking to, a mentor, a a
-
kind of a a a leader that I looked up
-
to, a student that was older, and they
-
were talking about it, and they said,
-
"Do you want to get rid of this sin?"
-
And I was like, "Yes."
-
And he said,
-
"Do you really
-
truly
-
with everything in you want to never
-
look at that again? want to never see
-
that again. I need you to look in your
-
heart and ask yourself that question.
-
And I looked in my heart and the honest
-
answer in my heart was I think I want a
-
three-w weekek break.
-
The honest answer, if I'm serious about
-
transparency,
-
it was
-
I want to feel like I'm overcoming, but
-
I think I kind of want to go back to
-
that thing again. I think I kind of want
-
whatever you're s I think I kind of want
-
like I I want to stop drinking but but I
-
don't know if I I want to stop the
-
poison that the sin brings but I want to
-
hang on to the benefit that I feel the
-
lies that it it promises me and I don't
-
know if I fully want to let go of that
-
and this this became this struggle that
-
I was like I've there's my problem
-
I don't actually want to kill this
-
thing. I want to kick it out for a
-
little bit. That relationship like, "Oh
-
man, that was a bad relationship. I keep
-
going to these bad unhealthy things and
-
I got to stop that and I'm going to say
-
goodbye to that until maybe someone else
-
comes along and they say the right
-
things. They look the right way and they
-
promise the right promises and it's just
-
like, "Oh man, I see some of the same
-
signs, but this one's going to be
-
different. This one's going to be
-
different." Right? It's the like, man,
-
food has had a vice on me. And whenever
-
I'm stressed, whenever I'm in trouble,
-
that's where I go. And I just I feed and
-
I eat away my problems and I and but but
-
I'm going to stop doing that. I'm
-
finding this diet. I'm doing this stuff
-
and all this. It's starting to work out.
-
And then guess what? Guess what? Did you
-
hear what that person at work said?
-
Did you do you know how stressed I am? I
-
just need to I just need to step back
-
into this. Right? It may be things that
-
that you're like, "Oh man, I have been
-
addicted to my phone. I've been addicted
-
to whatever it is." And then suddenly
-
when anger comes and I'm like, I don't
-
know what to do. I'm over stimulated.
-
I'm just going to and I'm back to doing
-
the same thing. How, oh my goodness,
-
it's been hours and I've just been stuck
-
here, stuck on a screen, whatever it may
-
be. And I find myself in that same
-
place. And I got to ask, do you really
-
want to kill this
-
That's got to be the first thing that
-
you change. Not just take a break, but
-
actually kill this thing
-
and actually figure out how to battle
-
this stronghold. That's what we're going
-
to be talking about today, battling a
-
stronghold. And so, this is Jesus gives
-
us the key to this in the Lord's Prayer.
-
In the Lord's prayer, he gives this line
-
and it says, "Lead us not into
-
temptation, but deliver us from evil."
-
And this is actually in prayer. This is
-
actually how we fight the enemy. This is
-
actually the step first step is to we've
-
heard of fight and flight, right? This
-
is the first step is actually obvious.
-
First, it's flight and then it's fight.
-
First, this is the problem. This is what
-
I found in my addiction and my problem.
-
I would try to I I would try to fight
-
this thing first every single time. And
-
I remember countless times I'd be in the
-
basement of our house growing up and
-
there was a computer act that I had
-
access to down there. And I'd go, "You
-
know what? It's late. Everybody else is
-
upstairs. Everybody else is in bed." And
-
uh and I'm just going to I'm just going
-
to go on and play solitire. That's what
-
I'm going to do. And I'd lie to myself.
-
I can fight this. I can fight this. And
-
I'd put myself in the middle of a
-
battlefield when I'm weak. And guess
-
what? I would lose the battle 10 out of
-
10 times because I chose to first fight
-
it before flight and avoiding it. The
-
very first thing if I'm being attacked
-
by an enemy, I've got to get away first.
-
Lead me not into temptation. This is
-
what this is is this is setting up this
-
idea of flee.
-
Run away. Okay. 2 Timothy 2:22, we see
-
uh that that Paul says to his son in the
-
faith, he says, "Flee all these youthful
-
passions and pursue righteousness. Run
-
away from darkness. Pursue
-
righteousness, faith, love, and peace
-
along with those who call on the Lord
-
from a pure heart. Seek him. Seek godly
-
accountability. Run away from this." 1
-
Corinthians 6:18 says, "Flee. run. Get
-
out of the way when you are in
-
temptation with sexual immorality.
-
Every other sin, did you know the Bible
-
actually highlights some sins as worse
-
than others? When it comes to salvation,
-
it doesn't matter. The tiny little white
-
life, that's all you've ever done,
-
you're done. Right? In terms of
-
salvation, all sin is the same. Sin
-
separates us from God. But some sins are
-
more egregious against the Lord. And
-
this sexual sin is one of those. Every
-
other sin a person commits is outside of
-
the body. But the sexually immoral
-
person sins against their own body, the
-
temple of the Lord. So it's like a
-
double sin in one. And it creates this
-
offense against the Lord. And so this is
-
in fact the New Testament has eight
-
different vice lists like flee, get away
-
from this stuff, all this darkness. And
-
did you know sexual immorality, sexual
-
sin is the only type of sin found on all
-
eight lists. Oftentimes it's either the
-
first in listed or the last in
-
emphasized. It is described in even many
-
times it's described with multiple terms
-
within the same list. It is such a
-
powerful vice and that is why we s see
-
sexual sexuality and sensuality
-
throughout all of the world around us
-
all the time which is why we have to set
-
up boundaries.
-
How do we avoid sin in our life? We got
-
to set up boundaries. Boundaries are
-
convictions that I create that are not
-
sin, but I must treat as such in order
-
to protect from the strongholds that the
-
enemy has. One thing I noticed when I
-
was in college and I was like, you know
-
what, I actually want to defeat this
-
thing. I noticed that when I would just
-
go online and look up like sports
-
articles and stuff like that, that that
-
was one of the ways that would actually
-
introduce me into the laziness and into
-
the mindset that would then lead into
-
pornography.
-
Is there anything wrong with looking up
-
sports articles?
-
Probably not.
-
But for me, that became a sin. And I I
-
went, I need to take it. I I need to
-
stop.
-
If you see me and I told my
-
accountability partner, I told my
-
roommate, I say, "If you see me looking
-
up articles about Nebraska football,
-
anything like that, that's not bad. But
-
I know what it leads into. So, for right
-
now, I'm setting up this boundary and
-
I'm not going to cross that." And as at
-
at this point now, because I don't want
-
to walk over the edge, I'm not going to
-
get close to the edge.
-
>> I'm not going to I I had lived my whole
-
life right here going, I think I'm going
-
to be fine. I'm probably going to be
-
okay. I think I'm going to be just just
-
okay. and I'm living right on the edge,
-
right? Flirting with sin, looking like
-
sin. And then guess what? I would fall
-
again and again and again. So, how do we
-
set up boundaries? We got to look at our
-
our our areas of our life that we go,
-
these are the access points that the
-
enemy has. And one of the best ways to
-
see uh I I call them red flags. I call
-
them like I'm just finding these red
-
flag moments. These are the times when I
-
find that the Lord is trying to attack
-
me spiritually. These are the time or
-
sorry that the enemy is trying to attack
-
me spiritually when usually it's because
-
the Lord is working. When God's starting
-
to do something good, I expect the enemy
-
to come in and try to do something
-
against me, right? There's times when I
-
see that I'm like, I know when I'm weak.
-
I learned this this uh acronym years
-
ago. Halt.
-
Stop. Wait. Halt. What does it mean?
-
Hottie, angry, lonely, tired. Hottie
-
means prideful, stuck up. I think I've
-
got this. I've got this thing figured
-
out. It's on me and I'm doing it right.
-
It's this idea of like, I think I look
-
good. I think I feel good. I think I'm
-
in this. Guess what? That's an area
-
where I'm already giving Satan a a
-
foothold in my life. And so now he is
-
going he's probably going to that's a
-
point of weakness. And I got to look at
-
this. When I'm angry, I can't believe
-
what that person did to me. Guess what?
-
I've already got a door cracked open for
-
Satan to then enter in. I'm lonely. I'm
-
all by myself. I'm going onto my
-
computer late at night when no one else
-
is looking. Watch out. Right. No one
-
else knows. Everybody else in the house
-
is if you're living alone. Like, that's
-
hard. You got to learn how to fight this
-
and get yourself surrounded by community
-
again and again and again because you're
-
going to be by yourself a lot of times.
-
And you got to learn how to find purity
-
in the midst of that. So part of it may
-
just be don't be alone. Be alone for as
-
little as possible, right? Get a godly
-
roommate to come in and live with you.
-
Like whatever it may be, things like
-
that. Hotty, angry, lonely, tired. And
-
when I say tired, just think low energy.
-
Sometimes it literally is I'm physically
-
tired. I need to take a nap. Sometimes
-
it's I'm exhausted after a long day.
-
Sometimes it's I'm hungry and I'm just
-
weak. Right? These are all different
-
things that we got to think of this
-
because if I'm full of myself hottie,
-
then I'm empty of God. If I am lonely, I
-
got to get I I I find that the only
-
person that I give permission to to
-
enter into that room often times is the
-
enemy. I got to choose who I'm allowing
-
in. If I'm tired, sometimes the best
-
thing you can do for your spiritual walk
-
is take a nap, go for a walk, get a
-
healthy snack. You know, that's what God
-
did with Elijah after the fire came down
-
from heaven. And he runs away and he's
-
like, "This is terrible. Everything's
-
miserable. I hate all this. This is so
-
bad. I just Everybody's chasing me. They
-
all want to see me die." And he's like,
-
"Shut up. Take a nap. I'll get you a
-
snack when you're when you wake up,
-
okay? Everything will be better after
-
that promise." Right? And it was
-
suddenly had a clear mind, right? Just
-
get up, go for a walk, go do something
-
else. It doesn't feel that spiritual,
-
then turn it into prayer. Make it a
-
prayer walk. Do it. Right? Sometimes
-
it's just learning how to utilize the
-
body that God has given me, the mind
-
that God has given me, and to counteract
-
the plans that the enemy is trying to do
-
in that moment. Okay. So, here here's
-
homework for today. Put a list of
-
boundaries and access points. What are
-
the access points that the enemy has?
-
Start to build a list of this all and
-
then the boundaries that you want to set
-
up and share these with your ally. is
-
part of that vulnerability, that
-
transparency about going, hey, here's
-
the things that aren't sin, but to me
-
right now, they are sin.
-
Here's the things I'm going to avoid so
-
that I don't step into this lie in the
-
stronghold that the enemy has had over
-
me. And there's so many different What
-
we need to do is we need to learn how to
-
get uncomfortable with these boundaries.
-
If I'm going, ah, that just seems really
-
inconvenient,
-
right? There's some apps. I got an app
-
on my phone called Covenant Eyes. It's
-
all It used to be called Covenant Eiz.
-
Now it's called Victory. It's a great
-
app that will report. It'll screenshot
-
my phone and it'll send it'll send those
-
to my wife. It'll send, "Hey, if there's
-
anything that's concerning, watch out."
-
Why? Because I dealt with the same
-
addiction for seven years. And I don't
-
want to find myself standing out,
-
putting myself in the midst of a
-
battlefield. And am I going to find out
-
that I'm just as despicable of a human
-
being that I always was for those seven
-
years?
-
I don't want to find out
-
because I've let my I've trusted myself
-
too many times. I've let myself down too
-
many times. I'm not even going to find
-
that out. I'm not even going to do that.
-
So, I got these inconvenient apps that
-
take up space and make my phone slow and
-
like get frustrating like ah and like my
-
screen time and like all the like all
-
that like if it's inconvenient, you're
-
doing it right.
-
>> Right. I got to delete all these apps
-
and I can't download these apps unless
-
someone else puts the code and the
-
password into my phone. That's annoying.
-
That's a nuisance. That's good.
-
>> These are boundaries that make it hard
-
to be able to access. So, first we got
-
to fight. We got to run away. We got to
-
avoid it. Second is we got to fight. We
-
got to actually defeat this enemy. Once
-
I've run away, you will undoubtedly
-
face times of temptation that you did
-
not enter yourself into. The battlefield
-
will follow you. The enemy will follow
-
you. sins crouching at the door. And
-
it's not just the door that I need to go
-
out. It's the door that that that that I
-
that I'm flirting with. It's the door
-
that I actually I need to cross. I need
-
to go across this thing. And and guess
-
what? The enemy is going to keep on
-
coming. But if I've spent my whole life
-
battling him, then when he comes and he
-
attacks on his own accord, guess what?
-
[music] I'm going to be tired. I'm going
-
to be weak. I'm going to fail again. But
-
I've spent time avoiding him, seeking
-
the Lord, setting up boundaries. Then
-
when the fight comes, I go, I'm ready.
-
I'm going to conquer this thing. I'm
-
going to fight this temptation. I'm
-
going to see this thing defeated. James
-
4:6-8
-
says, "God opposes the proud but gives
-
grace to the humble. Submit yourselves
-
therefore to God. Resist the devil. He
-
will flee from you. Draw near to God and
-
he will draw near to you. Cleanse your
-
hands sinners." Right? phys. This is
-
these are the outward things. Purify
-
your hearts, you double-minded. The
-
inward things that are leading us into
-
that, right? This is this is the whole
-
idea of learning how to then fight this.
-
But because it's a spiritual
-
it's a spiritual battle, I got to fight
-
it with different weapons. In Ephesians
Ephesians 6 chapter mention
-
chapter 6 13-20, it goes through a list
-
of the weapons that we use in spiritual
-
warfare. And nowhere [music] on this
-
list is your will.
-
Try harder performance. Do these things.
-
Want to know what else is not on this
-
list?
-
Fight against the enemy. Like go to
-
church. Read your Bible. Pray more.
-
[music]
-
Join a group. Join a team. Here's the
-
problem with that. All of those things
-
are great. They've increased proximity
-
with the Lord and with community. These
-
are the things that you actually see
-
listed. How do what are the weapons I
-
use against the enemy? Truth.
-
I stand on truth because there's always
-
a lie being presented, right? We talked
-
about that. I stand on righteousness. I
-
actually I'm pursuing righteousness
-
within my heart. Not just against this
-
thing, but just in all areas. I just
-
want to become more like Christ today
-
than I was yesterday. readiness for the
-
gospel of peace. I want to be the type
-
of person that's on mission and not on
-
mission like, "Hey, you need to get
-
saved or else you're going to hell." But
-
the gospel of peace, right? Not the
-
gospel of attack, and the gospel of
-
aggression, the gospel of peace,
-
readiness. I want to be on mission for
-
the gospel of peace. I want to have
-
faith. I'm believing more for what he's
-
going to do, and I focus on that more
-
than what the enemy is doing. On
-
salvation. No, no, no, no. I've been
-
saved. I've got victory over this. And
-
so I already know I've got this helmet
-
of salvation that protects my mind of
-
going, "Wait, wait, wait. I got
-
authority over this temptation." The
-
word of God is the sword of the spirit.
-
Do not try to I promise you, don't try
-
to battle with your own words. Battle
-
with the Bible.
-
Battle with the Bible. God's words are
-
so much better than your words. I
-
promise you, it comes with authority
-
that you do not have. Have some verses
-
that you capture in your heart that you
-
can't let go of. Psalm 119 9-11. [music]
-
I'll think about this. How can a young
-
person keep their way pure in this world
-
that's surrounded by all this sin, by
-
all this depravity? How can they do it?
-
By living according to your
-
word. I seek you with all my heart. Do
-
not let me stray from your commands.
-
That's righteousness. I have hidden your
-
word in my heart so that I won't sin
-
against you.
-
Then the last weapon that we see is
-
prayer. Specifically talking about
-
praying in the spirit. Using a spiritual
-
battle against a spiritual enemy.
-
Don't expect to win a spiritual [music]
-
battle with natural weapons.
-
And I promise you what I [music] want to
-
do. Uh Romans 6 12-14. I want to
-
highlight [music] this as we get ready
-
to leave. Can we stand up in here?
-
Do not let sin control the way you live.
-
Do not give in to sinful desires. Catch
-
it. It doesn't say do not have sinful
-
desires. That's what temptation is.
-
The Lord Jesus himself was tempted.
-
Sinful desires aren't sin. It's giving
-
in to them is the sin. Right? Do not
-
give in to sin uh sinful desires. Do not
-
let any part of your body become an
-
instrument of evil to serve sin. This is
-
letting things in. What am I listening
-
to? What am I allowing in through my
-
eyes? Who are the people that I'm
-
surrounding myself with that are feeding
-
certain spiritual aspects of my soul?
-
Right? What am I surrounding myself
-
with? And how do I need to build
-
boundaries? [music] Instead, give
-
yourselves completely to God. For you
-
were dead, but now you have new life. So
-
use your whole body as an instrument to
-
do what is right for the glory of God.
-
Your whole body, physically, my mind,
-
mentally, right? All of it. Sin is no
-
longer your master. For you no longer
-
live under the requirements of the law.
-
Instead, you live under the freedom of
-
[music] God's grace.
-
So this is what I want us to do. I want
-
I just want this is super practical.
-
Look at your access points. Begin to
-
take notes of these things. Maybe you
-
got a big sin that's super clear and you
-
know your access points. I know people
-
here who've dealt with uh addiction,
-
with alcoholism, and they said, "You
-
want to know what I had to do? I had to
-
add an extra 10 minutes, 15 minutes onto
-
my drive home because the way I would
-
drive home would I'd pass by my bar, the
-
bar, and I'd have to go this way, and
-
[music] I have to go around it. And it's
-
really annoying. It's really
-
inconvenient, which means I'm doing it
-
right. [music]
-
And I would avoid. So, what are the
-
entrance points and then what are the
-
uncomfortable, inconvenient boundaries
-
you need to set [music] up? Share that
-
with your ally. Talk with your ally
-
about the areas in your life that you're
-
like, I still I'm trying to discern the
-
lies that I'm believing here and the
-
truth that Lord the Lord is speaking
-
over this. And then use the word, right?
-
This is where like I I want I want you
-
let Google let AI lead you to the word.
-
Don't [music] let that become your word.
-
AI is a terrible counselor. It'll it'll
-
just support whatever you want to
-
believe all the time. Okay? So, stop
-
doing that. Right? I let the but I I
-
will let it. But I may go, hey, help me
-
find some verses that deal with this
-
type of addiction. And then I'm going to
-
go away from that and I'm going to get
-
into this and I'm going to okay, I'm
-
going to read the whole context around
-
it. I'm going to let this thing soak
-
inside of me and I'm going to let this
-
change me, right? I'm going to let the
-
word impact my heart. I'm going to let
-
that become my battle. I'm going to
-
memorize some verses so that when the
-
temptation comes back up, I'm ready to
-
fight it. [music]
-
Okay. Lastly,
-
use the community, the body of Christ
-
[music] around you. Find these
-
boundaries. Fight the enemy. Flee from
-
temptation. Run towards the father.
-
Resist the devil. He will flee from you.
-
Draw near to God and he will draw near
-
to you.
-
>> I believe that this is going to be a
-
church full of victory, full of freedom.
-
Amen. Amen. Heavenly Father, I pray
-
right now in the mighty name of Jesus.
-
Lord, I believe that there's going to be
-
victory in this place. [music] Lord, may
-
we live in the practical discipline of
-
saying, "I refuse to let this sin in my
-
life anymore. I refuse to allow this. I
-
want God, I pray for a change of hearts.
-
I pray for a change of minds. I pray for
-
a change of practice. And I pray for
-
clear boundaries to be set. I pray for
-
powerful accountability to be made. And
-
Lord, in the mighty name of Jesus, I
-
pray that victory would start to be seen
-
again and again and again, the [music]
-
stronghold released more and more and
-
more as we follow through according to
-
your word. In the mighty name of Jesus,
-
we [music] pray. Amen. Amen. Come on,
-
can we give a hand for the word of the
-
Lord?
-
>> [applause]
-
>> Hey, thanks so much for watching today's
-
[music] message. Our prayer is more than
-
the words that were spoken in the
-
message [music] that you would remember
-
the things that God spoke to your heart.
-
>> Yeah. And no matter what it was that God
-
spoke to you, I know that part of your
-
journey is other people being in a
-
community because we [music] are better
-
together. So, if you made a decision to
-
follow Jesus today, would you click the
