Take it away.

Well, good morning.

Are you ready for the Word of God today?

Awesome.

We're gonna read this morning out of Psalms, a book of Psalms.

Psalm 103.

If you have your Bibles, you can turn with us there.

If not, you can look on the screen and follow along there.

The book of Psalms is a book of praise.

And you know what I love about the book of Psalms?

It's easy to find.

You open your Bible right to the middle, and there it is.

Praise is literally the core of God's word.

And pray, praise should be the core of our lives.

Amen.

Let's read together, starting in verse one.

Praise the Lord my soul, all my inmost being, praise his holy name.

Praise the Lord my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagles.

Come on.

Hey, when we just remember what he's done for us, how he forgave us, how he healed us, if we just remember all he's done, we can't help but to praise our God.

Amen.

If we just get a glimpse of our creator, of our redeemer, of our God, then our most natural, most primal um response in its most uninhibited form is praise.

This morning, we want to speak to you on the subject, the power of praise.

The power of praise.

Let's pray.

God, we thank you that you're in the room.

God, we thank you for the church of Jesus Christ.

We thank you for Jesus, the Lamb of God, who was slain for the sins of the world, who is our Savior, our Lord, our friend and our God.

God, we thank you for the Holy Spirit who's in the room and at work in every heart.

God, we thank you for the word of God.

God, let your word transform lives today.

Lord, I pray above all, Lord, that we would receive a revelation on the power of praise and that this message would result in the praise of the living God flowing from every heart in the room.

We thank you for these things in Jesus' name.

And everybody said, Amen.

Amen.

We've been in a series for the last few weeks called Winning the War in Your Mind, based on the book by Craig Rochelle.

It's been so helpful.

We've received practical tools for how to steward a sound mind.

We've learned how to replace negativity and lies with the truth of God's word.

We've learned how to choose to have eyes of faith, to see our circumstances through eyes of faith.

It's been incredible.

And as we wrap up the series today, we want to use that as our jumping off point.

This morning, we want to talk about rejoicing.

We want to talk about the biblical strategy of praise.

Because the truth is, you want to know why it's so important to win the war in your mind.

Because the war in your mind is actually a war over your soul.

You think the enemy is just messing with your mind just for fun?

No, he's got a much bigger agenda, right?

He knows if he can influence your thoughts, if he can influence what you dwell on, if he can get you to come into agreement with him and your mind, he can have access to what he really wants, your soul.

So what we're gonna discover together today, and this might come as a surprise to some of you, is that one of the most powerful weapons we have in the war over our mind is praise.

Yes, that's right.

And sometimes we think praise is just like the couple songs right before the sermon, right?

It's like the couple songs that are really fast, and maybe it's the ones that you're skipping.

I'm not pointing anyone out, you know.

But that's what praise is.

Can I tell you it's it's more than that?

Everyone say exalt Jesus.

That's our pillar, that's our foundational pillar.

Exalt the name of Jesus, lift the name of Jesus on high.

So here is your definition of praise.

Praise is an active expression of honor and adoration and gratitude directed towards God for who he is and what God has done.

Has God done anything good for anyone in this place?

Come on, somebody.

Praise is the highest form of adoration.

So it's lifting his name up.

It's prayer, it's exalting the name of Jesus.

The other day, um Daisy, my eight-year-old, came to me and said, Dad, Doc, who's my nine-year-old, Doc just threw me on the ground and just threw me down.

And so I was like, all right, I got a discipline.

So I went to Doc and I said, Doc, did you throw your sister on the ground?

And he said, Yes, but Dad, she was punching me in my face.

She was punching me, and I had to get her off.

And I said, Daisy, it sounds like you're a little instigator.

You didn't tell me the whole story.

And sometimes to understand everything, you gotta go to the beginning.

In my house, we're working on not using violence to solve your problems.

Okay, that's what we're going through.

But we're trying to get the whole story as well.

So, in this, you know, theology of the thought, we gotta go to the very beginning, right?

Where did all of these things start?

So let's go to the beginning.

And God created the heavens and the earth, and he created Adam and Eve, place them in the garden to tend the garden.

No sin, no shame, nothing hurting, and they have perfect peace.

The Bible says this that they would walk with God in the cool of the day.

Can you imagine that?

Walking with God.

And God told them, You can have everything.

Everything is yours, eat from all of it, except for one tree.

Don't touch that tree.

But here comes the enemy in the form of a serpent.

And the enemy, well, he attacks the thoughts of Eve and says, Did God really say?

Did God really say, did God really mean this?

And it's the first doubt in the mind of humanity, the first lies spoken in humanity.

And Eve starts wondering, is there more?

Is there something God didn't tell me?

Is God even, she starts to doubt Almighty God, a thought turns into an action, she takes a bite.

And then Adam takes a bite, and everything changes.

God comes looking for them.

He knew where they were, but he said, Where are you?

And they said, We're hiding because we're naked.

And God said, Who told you that?

Who told you that?

And that's where I want to camp out for a moment.

Because as Christians, a key to winning the war in our minds is to realize we're in a spiritual battle.

Not all thoughts are our own thoughts.

The enemy, there's a war in your mind, is bringing thoughts.

And I'm telling you, we have an enemy that's been speaking from the very beginning.

And how many of you know he has the same old plans?

He has the same old tricks.

So God is still asking us the same question.

Who told you that?

Who told you that you'll never amount to anything?

Who told you that failure has to dictate your future?

Who told you you're not as good and as smart as your friends that are around you?

Who told you that you'll never make it?

Because God sure didn't tell you that.

And if God didn't tell you it, well, it is a lie from the enemy.

And I want to tell you this: you cannot believe everything you think.

Can I get a big amen?

You can't believe everything you think.

So, whenever you start thinking something that doesn't line up, come on, with the word of Almighty God.

It doesn't line up with what God says about you.

You're fearfully and wonderfully made.

The best is yet to come.

You cast it down as a lie and you start to speak God's truth over your life and say it again and again.

Come on.

Yes, yes.

Praise God.

The war in our mind began in a garden.

Eve, rather than trusting God, believed a lie, and the consequences were catastrophic.

Sin, destruction, death entered the world.

Our relationship with God was fractured, and it all began with a thought, with one lie believed.

But the story doesn't end there, does it?

I have good news for you today.

Our war in our mind, it began in a garden, but it was also one in a garden as well.

Hey, fast forward with me.

Zero AD.

Jesus himself arrives on the scene.

Fully God, fully man, born of a virgin.

He teaches the kingdom of God.

He heals the sick.

He casts out demons.

And through his death and resurrection, he fixes what was broken in the first garden.

Now through Jesus Christ, access to God is restored once again.

Now through Jesus Christ, we can be forgiven for our sins.

What was lost is now restored because of what he did.

The justice of a just God was satisfied, and his own blood would be the pen pay the penalty for our sin.

And it all began in a garden.

See, before Jesus went to the cross, he was in the garden of Gethsemane.

And there he prayed and he cried out to God, and his soul was in anguish.

He said, I am filled with sorrow even to the point of death.

The Bible says he even sweat drops of blood.

Jesus is wrestling in the garden.

But then Luke 22, 44 records his prayer.

He says, Father, if you're willing, take this cup from me, but not my will, but yours be done.

In this moment, we see Jesus wrestle, but in this moment we see him lock in and he makes a decision in his mind.

And what happened in the mind of Christ in that moment resulted in the salvation of the world.

This war began in a garden, but it was one in a garden too.

Calvary was one in a garden.

But listen, your inner life is where you're most vulnerable.

But now, because of Jesus Christ, your inner life can also be where you're most powerful.

Not only did Jesus win the war, not only did he win the victory, but then he poured out his Holy Spirit so that now we can live in that victory.

And the Bible says he has given us weapons, spiritual weapons of warfare.

2 Corinthians 10, 3 through 5 says our weapons have divine power to demolish strongholds, to demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God.

And we take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ.

We have weapons that have divine power.

We're not winning this war in our mind with sheer willpower.

We're doing it by the power of the Holy Spirit.

And it's a power that is greater than every force against you.

It can demolish strongholds and take captive, not some thoughts, every thought and make it obedient to Christ.

And one of our greatest weapons is praise.

And it's such a weapon that it's power.

Everyone say power.

Praise is literal power in our life.

And you might say, Well, I can't sing.

You might say, I can't praise because I can't sing.

I sing off key.

Can I tell you I don't want to hear that?

You can just keep that to yourself.

And we might say, I can't play any instruments.

I can't do that.

Listen, it's more than just musical.

Because if you're a teacher, if you're a mechanic, if you're in any line of work, the Bible says this in Psalm 150.

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

That means you, and that means me.

That means every single one of us.

We got to praise Almighty God.

It's literal power, it's warfare, how we win against the enemy.

And you see it all throughout the Bible.

We go all day long, but in the Old Testament, God's children, Israel, would go out to battles.

And a few times before the battle, God said, Let the tribe of Judah go first.

Judah is directly associated with praise.

So before the battle, before the victory, the praise went first.

I love Joshua 6.

Joshua in the Battle of Jericho.

They were trying to fight them, and their walls were big and thick and tall.

And God said, Hey, walk around those walls seven straight days, and on the seventh day, blast your horns, shout with praise.

And the praise gave them the victory.

The walls came tumbling down.

I speak it right now in the name of Jesus in your life.

Some walls are gonna come down today because of the praise that you're gonna give Almighty God.

I love the story of Jehoshaphat.

Jehoshaphat, he was in the Old Testament and a king, and he's facing an impossible army.

They could not beat them.

Is anyone in a situation like that today?

An impossible situation.

You need God to come through.

They were in an impossible situation, and God gave him the remedy.

He said, Let all your singers, let all your musicians go on the battlefield first.

And they had a little worship service on the battlefield first before anything else.

And God began to move, and God gave them the victory through praise.

What am I saying today?

I'm telling you, don't wait until the battle is over to start praising God.

Start praising him right now.

Praise him in the middle of the battle.

Praise him because it changes your posture in the middle of the battle because of what God has done and who our God is.

I'm telling you this: when you live like that, it shrinks your problems.

Your problem doesn't look like this insurmountable thing.

No, it shrinks your problems and it makes your God so big.

It puts him in control.

Because I'm telling you, praise is power, it's warfare.

And how many of you can testify?

It breaks bondages and it breaks chains in your life.

It breaks chains.

I love this story of Paul and Silas, this famous story in Acts 16.

Paul and Silas were arrested, they were beaten, they were thrown in prison and chained.

And it's midnight.

And they decide, oh, it's a perfect time to pray and to praise Almighty God.

So they start having a worship service.

And it so convicts me because sometimes I can like make deals with God.

I don't know about you, but God, I'll have a good attitude once this situation kind of turns around.

God, I'll start praising, Lord, if you open that door and if you get no, Paul and Silas teach us something different, and that's what we've got to learn.

We don't have to understand everything that God's doing to trust him.

Can I get an amen?

Paul and Silas, they had no idea.

They start praising, they have no idea what's about to happen, that God's about to bust down the prison door.

They had no idea God was about to break open their chains and to free them.

All they knew is, man, this is a tough situation, but God is still God.

God is still in control, and He is worthy of my praise.

So I'm just telling you, we've got to have this kind of faith this morning.

The kind of faith that says, God, I don't understand this.

God, I don't know what's happening.

I didn't want it to happen this way, but God, I still trust you.

And I'm still gonna praise you because the praise, listen, it doesn't come after the breakthrough.

Everyone say before.

It comes before.

Praise, no matter what you're going through, praise is power.

Yes, praise is power.

So, what do we do?

Praise always.

Come on.

So, praise always.

Hebrews 13 5 says, Let us continually, everyone say, continually.

Let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God.

See, God inhabits the praises of his people.

He literally dwells in an atmosphere of praise.

And Revelation 4, 2 actually gives us a picture of the dwelling place of God, of the throne room of God.

And it also gives us a spiritual perspective of our praise.

I'm gonna read this to you from Revelation starting in verse 2.

This is John speaking.

At once I was in the spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it.

And the one who sat there had the appearance of Jasper and Ruby, a rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne.

Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders.

They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads.

From the throne came flashes of light, rumblings and peals of thunder.

In front of the throne, seven lamps were blazing.

These are the seven spirits of God.

Also in front of the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal.

In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes in front and in back.

The first living creature was like a lion.

The second was like an ox.

The third had the face of a man.

The fourth was like a flying eagle.

Each of the four living creatures had six wings, and covered with eyes all around, even under its wings.

Day and night they never stopped saying, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come.

I want to keep reading here.

Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor, and thanks to Him who sits on the throne and who lives forever and ever.

Ever the 24 elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever.

They lay their crowns before the throne and say, You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power.

For you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.

Yes.

Praise God.

I wonder what our praise would look like if we just caught a glimpse of who we are worshiping.

But I want to draw our attention to these four living creatures.

Okay?

The lion, the ox, the eagle, and the human.

Because they teach us something about our praise.

We can even call them the four faces of praise.

Let's look at the lion.

The lion represents strength, courage, boldness.

Did you know that you can hear a lion's roar up to five miles away?

The lion represents praise in the battle.

Because sometimes our praise needs to sound like a roar.

The lion's roar sends a message to an encroaching enemy.

You come any closer, you'll have me to deal with.

You come any closer, and I will lift up my roar of praise.

This kind of praise, when the enemy attacks your life, it sends a message that says, You think you can mess with my family?

You think you can mess with my marriage?

You think you can mess with my kids, my health, my mind.

I've got news for you.

I come against you with my praise.

Amen.

Do we have any bold praise in the house this morning?

Hallelujah.

And then we've got the ox.

The ox is strong, steadfast, stubborn, and won't quit.

The ox represents praise in the process.

Hallelujah.

Come on.

Hey, every day might be a grind, but this praise declares, my God is still greater.

You might be in the process, it might feel impossible.

When it rains, it pours, and you are just being pushed on every side.

This is praise that speaks right to your circumstances and says, My praise is more stubborn than you.

It's the praise of Job.

When he lost everything, he didn't quit or give up.

Job responded.

The Lord gives, the Lord takes away.

Blessed be the name of the Lord.

It's praise that will not quit no matter what.

And then we've got the eagle.

The eagle soars high above the earth.

The eagle represents how praise lifts you up, how it raises your spirit so that you have the perspective of heaven.

And suddenly, from up here, those problems don't seem so big anymore.

That's what praise literally does for your spirit and for your faith.

It gives you heaven's perspective.

Years ago, I had a dream that will just be with me forever.

In this dream, it started off really scary, and I was just in total darkness, and I could just sense evil.

And I was so scared.

I don't know if you've ever had a dream like this, but I was so scared I just couldn't move or speak.

And I just closed my eyes and I felt the Lord say, start praising.

And in this dream, I'm feeling like that is the last thing I feel like doing.

That's the last thing that makes sense.

But with everything in me, I just close my eyes and I began to praise God.

I began to sing.

And then when I had the courage to open my eyes again, I look and realize I am way high in the sky.

And I look down, and that darkness is so small, way beneath my feet.

It is a prophetic image of what praise literally does for you.

If you need fresh perspective, if you need new faith, build up your faith by proclaiming praise from your mouth.

It will lift you up, give you heaven's perspective, and your faith will soar on wings like eagles.

Hallelujah.

Finally, we come to the man.

The creature that had the face of a human.

Well, humans are frail.

We're weak.

We make mistakes.

The human represents praise in our weakness.

Praise in our weakness.

Maybe today you don't feel like a lion.

Maybe you don't feel like an ox or an eagle.

Maybe today you know you've messed up and you don't even feel worthy to be in the presence of God.

But this is praise that despite the fact that you're weighed down by shame, despite the fact that you know you've lost your way, you know what you did, you know what you said, you know how many chances God has given you.

You're broken and you're weak.

And yet, this is praise that in your humility chooses to praise God because you realize your praise isn't about you being worthy in the first place.

He is worthy of your praise.

And yet, here's the sweetest thing of all the praise happening in the throne room of heaven, Jesus looks right at you in your weakness and says, You're the one I created in my image.

You're the one I died for.

It's your praise I love the most.

More than all the creatures, more than all the angels.

It's your praise I love.

He loves your praise.

So I don't know what you're going through today, but I know what's going to get you through.

Praise.

Praise him in the battle.

Praise him in the process.

Praise him when you need perspective.

Praise him in your weakness because he's worthy.

Amen.

Amen.

Come on, give God some praise in this place.

Come on, give him praise.

Thank you, Jesus.

Hallelujah.

I'm gonna ask the worship team to come.

We're closing.

And I look all around this auditorium today, and I just see example after example that I could go testimony after testimony because I've seen you live your lives.

I've seen what you've gone through, and I've seen the tenacity to stand firm and say, as for me and my house, we're gonna serve the Lord.

I'm praising Almighty God through everything.

It doesn't mean you're perfect or the situation's perfect.

It means you keep getting back up and you find your God and you find your posture of praise.

And if I have to think of one person, I just couldn't stop thinking of my mom, um, Pastor Deonza Duran, who just looks, you look so pretty.

Can you just stand, let everyone see you right now?

Come on, put your hands together for Pastor Deonza.

You look so beautiful.

I love you.

And I I think this because I've had a front row seat to see my mom live my entire life.

So I've gotten to see how she responds to crisis.

I've gotten to see how she responds to the tough times with her family, the tough times in her everyday walk, the tough times in the church.

And it's so amazing because the resilience, and if I used one word to describe my mom, it would be resilient.

But the resilience of this woman to declare in a moment, God's gonna turn it around.

It's just amazing.

It's almost a little bit, it's a little bit infuriating because sometimes it's like, can we be sad just for a moment?

Like, can we mope just for a little bit?

And I heard her time and time again.

No, our God is able.

No, our God did it before, he's gonna do it again.

No, our God sits on the throne.

So our God is gonna give us a miracle.

No, he already finished it on the cross, so we have the victory.

No, we are going forward, we are not stopping, we will continue.

The best is yet to come.

I can hear it over and over again.

It's because this she knows there's a decision to be made.

So she knows when something crazy happens, you have to make a decision.

And the decision is stop and quit and just go backwards, or you can stand up and you can declare the praises and the goodness of your God.

So I'm gonna give you a couple things right now.

When the enemy comes after you, and when the enemy says, God has forgotten you, you praise and you say, No, my God is faithful.

When the enemy comes after you and says, There is no way out, every door is closed.

You say, No, I'm gonna praise God, and God is the way maker.

God opens any door that he wants to at any time.

My God is able.

It's football season, we got a lot of offense and defense happening, lots of games, and I'm telling you this: the enemy has an offense, it has a playbook for fear, it'll it'll crush your fear.

The enemy has a playbook for anxiety, for depression, but I'll tell you what, the enemy has no answer for.

When you declare and say, No matter what happens to me, enemy, I'm not leaving this spot, and I'm gonna declare how great my God is.

The enemy has no answer against that.

You win every time.

And it might not be that your situation changes on the outside.

No, it's the war in your mind.

God starts breaking down walls in your mind, breaking down walls in your spirit, breaking down walls in your inner man.

And if you win in your mind, you win in your life.

So today I'm telling you, Psalm 150 does not say, let everything that feels good, let everything that's going great, let it praise the Lord.

No, it says, Let everything that has breath.

Is anybody breathing in this place?

You better stand and worship your God right now.

Come on, tell God you love him.

Clap your hands like he's in this room.

Come on, let's have a moment of praise.

Because our God is able, he's bigger than anything will face.

Let's declare it right now.

God is doing amazing things.

And I just want to give you a couple practical examples before we worship, and I want you to get ready to give God your best praise.

Everyone say my best.

Let's give God our best praise.

But here's your practical handle.

This week, when the war in your mind it starts going, and it's gonna happen.

How many of you're like, oh well, it's here, Denny?

Like it's going, it's happening.

And whenever those thoughts become words, and whenever those thoughts become, well, it's always gonna be like this, it's never gonna change.

I can never you stop and you command yourself to praise the Lord.

You stop and you command your thoughts and your words to declare, God, you are able.

God, you're bigger than one I face, God, you're my everything, God, you're the Alpha, the Omega, the beginning, the end.

God, you promised me the best is yet to come.

I lift your name above my situation.

I lift your name above the things that I don't understand.

I lift your name above it all.

We exalt the name of Jesus.

Exalt the name of Jesus.

Bow your head right now, and I want you to get that in your mind, the place that you need to praise over.

You can praise in the middle of it.

And I want Pastor Sarah to pray for us.

And I want you to have this in your spirit, and you expect God to do a great thing.

God, we thank you for this word this morning, God.

We receive this word with obedient hearts, Lord, with willing hearts, God.

We say yes, God.

We want to be people of praise.

Lord, we were created to praise.

We're created in your image, redeemed by your blood, empowered by your Holy Spirit to live lives of praise.

As Pastor Denny Ronnie said, the enemy has no playbook when it comes to praise.

He's confused, he's bewildered, he's disarmed.

There's nothing he can do when nothing can move us from our praise.

So right now, God, I pray for praise of a lion as we praise in the battle.

I pray for praise of a nox that never gives up.

I pray for praise of an eagle that lifts our perspective and builds our faith.

I pray for praise, God, even in our weakness, Lord God, you are strong.

That is our praise.

So, God, we praise your name this morning and we promise we're gonna carry this out of this building, into our lives, into our habits.

Lord God, we will bring continually a sacrifice of praise.

So we lift you up, we thank you that you are good.

We praise you because you're worthy.

You're worthy of our praise.

We exalt your name on high, we praise your name together.

Let's praise together.

Just before you go, everyone look right here.

It would be a tragedy if you came and experienced our praise, experience our joy, experience our faith and believing that praise is a difference maker, and you walked out of here not understanding any part of it.

Because you yourself have never been really committed to Jesus.

I can't let you go like that.

I can't let you walk out into that parking lot and get in your car without knowing the way home.

All you have to do is to ask Jesus Christ to come into your life.

I saw a joke the other day, obviously from an unbeliever, that said, a guy said, I found Jesus, and said, I answered, I didn't know he was lost.

Well, here's what I want to say about that.

If you've not found him, he's lost to you.

And you're lost to him.

But he is no respecter of persons.

You say you don't know all the things I've done.

Well, that's certain that argument certainly would have kept the apostle Paul out of Christianity because he was a killer of Christians.

What I want to tell you is this don't matter where you've been, what you've done, or how long you've been doing it, you are not left out of the plan of God yourself.

And you need the plan of God in your life.

I want to tell you, you gotta have him because you can't live this life on your own.

It'll be empty and you won't even know why.

Bow your heads, please.

Shut yourselves away with God.

On the count of three, if I'm talking to you, raise your hand.

I I'm not gonna ask you to come forward, I'm not gonna point you out.

I just want to know who I'm praying for.

On the count of three, if you'll say, Pastor Dean, you're talking to me right now.

I want you to put your hand up.

Ready?

One, two, three.

Put your hand up right now.

You can put it down.

Now, right now, I want you to pray this prayer.

You say, How can one prayer make a difference?

Well, here's what you gotta understand: it was incredibly impossible for you to be here and to have access to this.

But 2,000 years ago, Jesus paid every difficult price so that you could do something very simple in finding it.

You don't come because you're good, you come because he's God.

So pray this prayer with me, everyone.

First of all, say this Lord, I believe that what I've felt in this room is what I've been looking for.

So right now, I ask you to forgive me of all my sins.

All of them since I was born into this world, forgive all of them, please, because that's what you promised to do.

And I ask that you will come into my heart.

My heart has not always been good.

I've had an evil heart at times, but I ask you to come into this heart and to own every chamber of it, and I ask that today, as I declare, I am a child of God, that you will receive me by faith.

I need you, God.
