The theme for today's devotion is sheep without a shepherd.

share a word of prayer. Father, we thank you for

the privilege and honor to look into your word. Please

open the eyes of understanding so that we'll behold wondrous

Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching

in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and

healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But

when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion

for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep

having no shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, The

harvest truly is plentiful, and the laborers are few. Therefore,

pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers

into his harvest. May the Lord add his blessing to

the reading and hearing of his word. Thanks be to God.

Sheep without a shepherd. Every day, We walk past dozens

of people without giving them a second thought. We see

them waiting at the bus stop, standing behind shop counters

or sitting quietly in traffic. We see their hurried strides,

their tired eyes and their anxious souls. Most of the time,

Our minds are entirely occupied with our own concerns, our bills,

our appointments, and the precious waiting on our decks. We

see people, yet we do not truly notice them. When

the Lord Jesus walked among men, he looked upon the

exact same kinds of crowds. but he saw them with

different eyes. The gospel tells us that when Jesus saw

the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them because

they fainted and were scattered abroad as sheep having no shepherd.

He looked past the outer shell and saw wounded wandering

souls carrying unbearable burdens into an uncertain eternity. A sheep

without a shepherd is entirely defenseless. It cannot find green

pasture on its own. It cannot defend itself against predators.

And when it falls into a ditch, it cannot climb out.

That is the true condition of every man, woman and

child living apart from Jesus Christ. They may wear fine suits,

carry confident smiles and possess elderly harness, yet inside their

souls are starving, blind to the pit before them and

cut off from the living God. How easily our hearts

grow cold to this reality. We rejoice in our own salvation,

we enjoy the peace of God in our homes, and

yet we can live alongside people for years without ever

aching for their eternity. We forget that hell is real,

that judgment is certain, and that the cross of Christ

is their only source of rescue. Christ calls us back

to break out of our self-absorbed slumber. He says, The

harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few. Today,

ask the Lord to take away the blindness of our hearts.

Let's consider the people around us not merely as friends, family, neighbors, co-workers,

or even strangers, but as souls who will spend eternity somewhere.

Let's pray for them by name and ask God to

grant us a word in season to share the hope

of Christ with tender and broken hearts around us in

Jesus' mighty name. Amen. Our memory verse for today is

Let us kindly share a word of prayer. Father, thank

you for your word today. We pray, O God, that

you grant us a heart. that is concerned about souls,

about where mankind is spending their eternity, so that in urgency,

we will reach out to save the lost with the gospel.
