a word of prayer. Gracious Father, we thank you for

the gift of life and another opportunity to start our

day with you. As we look into your word, we

pray that you open up our hearts to receive your word.

In Jesus' mighty name, Amen. Let us kindly take our

Matthew 15:14–16

Let us hear the word of the Lord. You are

the light of the world. A city that is set

on a hill cannot be hidden. nor do they light

a lamp and put it under a basket, but on

a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are

in the house. Let your light so shine before men

that they may see your good works and glorify your

Father in heaven. May the Lord add his blessing to

the reading and hearing of his word. Thanks be to God.

Long before anyone opens a Bible, They are reading our

lives as open books. They watch how we react when

the project falls apart at work. They notice how we

speak about others when their backs are turned. They see

whether we return kindness for hatred, calm for anger, or

whether we join in the bitter complaints that fill the

backroom at work. We often make the work of winning

souls feel like a heavy, impossible mountain. We assume it

requires elaborate argument, formal presentations, or forcing a conversation into

an awkward corner. But our Lord Jesus described it in

terms so simple a child could grasp. Ye are the

light of the world. A city that is set on

a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a

candle and put it under a bushel, but on the candlestick,

and they give it light unto all that are in

the house. A small candle does not make a sound.

It does not argue with the room or shut down

the shadows. It simply burns, and by its very burning,

the darkness has to give way. The world around us

is deeply weary. People are anxious about tomorrow, nursing breaking

hearts and exhausted by anger. When they see a Christian

who carries a quiet and shakable peace through the hard times,

it puzzles them. When they meet someone who refuses to

slander others, who works with honest hands, and who returns

a gentle answer when provoked, they begin to wonder where

that peace and attitude come from. Our integrity prepares the soil.

Our kindness softens the ground. When we live in such

a way that the grace of Christ shows in our

reactions and actions, people will eventually ask us why we

are different. And when that moment comes, we can then

tell them the truth that we are held by a

faithful Savior who loved us, forgave us, and has given

us His life of peace. We do not need to

wait for a special platform to win us all. Our homes,

decks in the office or classroom, and all our daily

errands are our personal mission fields today. Let's allow the

quiet beauty of Christ shine through our hands and words

and trust the Father to draw wandering souls to himself

in Jesus' name. Amen. Our memory verse for today is
