Saul Blinded, a Basket Escape & Raising the Dead – Acts 9

Man, that's a band that was like around when I was a kid.

Yeah, and they still make new music and everything.

The first thing I ever heard, so that there was a show that I watched when I was kid.

Like this would be like uh early elementary school Justin gets home from school off the bus.

Can I guess these Malcolm in the Middle.

No, I'm way older than that, dude.

Malcolm.

Seriously?

I'm just trying to think of they might be giants, like theme songs.

Oh, did they do a theme song for that?

What else do they do a theme song for?

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

Did they really?

Yeah.

That's the that's They Might Be Giants.

Yeah.

Did they sing it or just They sing it?

Come inside, it's fun inside.

Oh my gosh.

And my kids watched that.

No, Malcolm, that was that's college, my college, high school years, I think.

No, this was a show called Tiny Tunes.

Yeah, I have no idea what it was.

It was Looney Tunes, but they were younger.

Okay.

Hijinx.

Yes.

And there was one episode of Tiny Tunes that the entire thing was a musical, and it was all They Might Be Giants songs like Particle Man and Istanbul was constant.

And like that was, I had no context for it.

Yeah.

So years later, I hear someone playing a CD, and I was like, it's that Tiny Tunes episode.

That's my whole context.

We're like, no, no, it's a band.

That's awesome.

I was like, that makes sense.

That's a lot of production value for one episode of a cartoon show.

But they might be giants.

Very good.

So rocking them, They Might Be Giants hat went with my brothers.

It was a function.

Did you really?

My brothers and my dad.

Oh man, that's actually that's that's a fun super solid concept.

What kind of a venue do they do?

Beautiful.

The Eastern.

If anyone, if you're like into shows, how many people is that?

It's I don't know, five hundred.

It's like a small, I couldn't imagine that.

No, it's it was probably like an 800-person venue, but there's like a big thing on the floor, but then the balcony is like standing room only, but in tiers.

So you're only one layer deep on every single thing, and you've got like a little like handrailed all kind of like right on top of it.

It was awesome.

That's dope.

Well, I haven't been to a concert in a long time.

Uh speaking of Speaking of Concerts.

Of uh speaking of, you know, they might be giants of the faith, right?

We're standing on the shoulders of Acts chapter nine.

The uh what is your what does your heading say?

The conversion of Saul.

I have yeah, Saul's conversion.

Here we go.

Someone agreed on that.

Cool.

Um You want to read it?

So, which is New Living Tree.

All right, so here we go.

All right, meanwhile, Saul was uttering threats with every breath and was eager to kill the Lord's followers.

So he went to the high priest.

He requested letters addressed to the synagogues in Damascus, asking for their cooperation in the arrest of any followers of the way he found there.

He wanted to bring them both, men and women, back to Jerusalem in chains.

As he was approaching Damascus on this mission, a light from heaven suddenly shone down around him.

He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?

Who are you, Lord?

Saul asked.

And the voice replied, I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting.

Now get up and go to the city, and you will be told what you must do.

The men with Saul stood speechless, for they heard the sound of someone's voice, but saw no one.

Saul picked himself up off the ground.

But when he opened his eyes, he was blind, so his companions led him by the hand to Damascus.

He remained there blind for three days, did not eat or drink.

I think we can pause there.

Yeah.

Another appearance of Jesus.

Yeah, this is what qualifies Saul to be an apostle, not just a disciple leader in the early church, because I do believe having been like in the encountered the real Jesus was a prerequisite for apostleship.

I do believe.

What about Stephen?

I've never thought about that.

I know he's not an apostle, but I'm saying he sees Jesus.

Just didn't have time to maybe had he lived that day, he would have been among the yeah, I don't know.

It's an interesting thing to have Jesus appear, you know, there's and we'll see the you know, the fallout of the story as believers get involved and interact with Saul.

But like, why do you think it needed Jesus's direct appearance rather than just go talk to Peter or Yeah.

I don't know.

Um I mean on one hand, when some something is really serious, like here at the church, maybe there's a situation that I I deem is serious enough, the boss gets involved.

Where I'm like, I'm I got this one.

You know what I mean?

And I mean Saul's on a quest to persecute and root out the the church, and he's like, I'm going and I'm gonna bring him back in chains, and Jesus is like, no, you're not.

I've got a different plan.

You know, and so I don't know if that, you know, it it rose to that level.

Um it's also he's not he's not just stopping Saul from doing that, he's commissioning Saul with the new mission.

Yeah, it's a whole change in his life.

And I'm actually looking this up because I I said that with confidence that you had to have seen uh Jesus to be an apostle in the I think that was a prerequisite for the apostles, but then I'm like, uh, is that true?

So I'm looking that up because I don't want to say something wrong.

You know, if I said something, can you imagine if I said something wrong?

Um I think while you're looking that up, another thing that jumps out to me from this first section is Jesus identifies with the body of the church.

So he says, Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?

Like you binding these people up and taking them away to be killed or whatever.

It's like you attacking these people is attacking me.

Because he's never, he was never participant.

Yeah, why are you persecuting me?

Right.

Right.

And so just I think the way Jesus approaches, you know, identifying the church and what the church means in this era of um following Jesus, it's starting to become really clear.

Like we collectively make up the body.

We are the church.

And so when you are attacking a brother or sister or having conflict, it's like that conflict can't exist within Christ.

And so it's always worth settling.

And that's kind of what the New Testament letters are all about, eventually.

It's like, hey, this can't, like, Jesus can't be divided against himself.

It's amazing, like how hard Saul is working to persecute the church pales in comparison to how hard he's going to end up working to hold the church together and help them all, like, can you guys please stop?

Yeah, I just looked it up by the way, and the answer is like kind of.

And so uh having been in the presence of Jesus was viewed as a specific requirement in certain context, and Paul later defends uh his apostleship by insisting that he had seen our Lord.

So there is an Okay, so he's appealing to it, like Yes.

There's an idea.

Like I said, I had this idea in my head that, like, no, the apostles, those first apostles, they had to like they weren't just followers who came, they weren't converts, they were and Paul He sees him.

He sees him, he sees them.

And that's the last thing he sees for a while.

Yep.

Yeah.

How crazy would it be to be one of these other guys in this situation?

But hear the voice.

Did they did they hear the words or they just hear like a because I get the impression they don't hear the message, they just hear a voice or well they lead them to this next part.

So it's like they they kind of understood what was going on enough, maybe.

I mean, I think they would convert.

I know.

I feel like I feel like I'm always one of those people.

Like if I'm ever like a Bible person, I'm like, I'm the one of the guys with Saul.

You know what I'm just like?

I'm up some random side character.

And so it's interesting to think about what happens to those guys.

Yeah.

And so uh just for like context, this is very early in the church's history.

We're probably a matter of maybe um anywhere from a year to three-ish years after Jesus has died and resurrected.

So this is fairly early.

And Saul's playing the game of whack-a-mole as those churches get established.

It's like, ah, Damascus, they're starting to get some momentum.

Let me go see if I can deal with that.

So I wonder what that means for Paul.

Like, like I wonder how old, like what like Paul's a contemporary of Jesus at that then.

I mean, he is.

Right, because he meets all the people.

That's what I'm saying.

Like, so how that's crazy, like the overlap.

Paul had to have been someone because of his role in the Pharisees, he had to have been involved in all the conversations about Jesus and the hubbub.

Like, he's not, we never see him in the story of Jesus, but he's clearly because he calls himself a Pharisee of Pharisees.

We know that he was a uh a student of a famous rabbi.

Right.

He's Gamalel's student, and then he's at present at the um death of Stephen, which is early in the church history.

So like he just barely missed meeting Jesus.

But I mean, maybe he did too.

Like, was he at the temple the day that Jesus drove out?

Yeah.

Was he I mean, it's just crazy to think of of the overlap there.

I don't know.

And what radicalizes you to do violent things for what you believe?

Without the internet, who knows?

You know, YouTube?

Yeah.

No, I'm just saying, I guess what I'm saying.

And at the time, it's like he's going around, you know, there are Pharisees who are God loving, like, you know, the Pharisees get twisted and crazy by the end of it.

But it's like their attempt is to honor God, but they get to this point where they're like, yeah, but we also have to go like violently persecute anyone who opposes us.

Like that starts to be that's something different.

Yeah, well, and what's interesting too about Paul, and so again, we both said he's a he's a student of Gamalel, and that where is that referenced?

This is that he's a student of Gamaleel.

I think it's in um Is it one of his letters that he writes about?

I don't know, but it's it's definitely true.

Yeah, I know, but I don't know where it is.

Yeah, yeah.

So so Gamalel, here's what's crazy about this too, with Paul.

Oh, so Saul at this point, his name hasn't changed, but Saul has a very different mindset compared to Gamalel himself.

Right, who said, leave it alone.

Gamalel was the one who was like, guys, if this is from God, it you can't stop it.

And if it's not from God, it'll die out.

And so he's clearly departing even from some advice a tea a respected teacher has been given.

Right.

And um, and I don't know, this is where you read, but you gotta be careful about reading between the lines and trying to insert too much, you know.

But like the show The The Chosen, they had a character, uh Shmuel.

Shmuel.

It's hard to say Shmuel.

Shmuel.

But it's like someone who sees the ability to persecute Jesus as in many ways a great career opportunity.

Right.

Like and there are he's this is a chance for you to solidify yourself as a Yeah, he kind of starts as like an upturned nose, sort of like I'm frustrated with what you're saying.

And he's kind of an unimportant guy and that he's not from an important area.

So this is a but then his outrage is what gives him a platform.

Yeah.

And so and it says that Paul goes to the high priest, he went to the high priest.

Like he he made a pitch.

Right.

Like he's like, let me be the guy.

Is this Caiaphas still, or is it change?

Is Caiaphas?

I'm I'm always uh an Anias in Caiaphas.

I am always confused as to who's who in those situations.

Yes.

So yeah, he so he goes, he goes, Um, he makes his pitch to the high priest himself, and he's like, Let me be the one, give me the job, give me the and he gets the letters, and so you know, you just wonder what license to kill.

License to kill.

I feel like that would be a great title for a movie.

Is it an 80s movie, isn't it?

Yeah, it's one of the James Bond movies.

Oh, nice.

Yeah, yeah.

Um, because it was like license to drive, but yeah, murder people because you're yeah.

So he's got a license to kill, he's on his way to Damascus, he's hot tailing it on a donkey, and then boom, there's Jesus saying, like, I got different plans.

Now, this is where it gets really crazy to me.

Because as interesting as Saul is in this story, Ananias is a different person here.

So it says there was a believer in Damascus, verse 10 named Ananias, and the Lord spoke to him in a vision calling Ananias.

Yes, Lord, he replied.

And that's cool because that's gotta be like that's in that henani category.

Mine says, Here I am.

Yeah, okay, so it's the same word.

Obviously, where New Testament is Greek, so old, we don't have the Hebrew word that's.

That's the same posture.

Same posture.

So in the Bible, there's this ancient word in Hebrew, heneni, and you see it multiple times in the stories of Samuel, you see it in the story of Isaiah, um, where God speaks and someone says, Yes, Lord, but it's like not just, hey, I'm listening.

It's it's like a preemptive, I hear you, and ready for duty.

Ready, yeah.

Whatever you want me to do.

But he doesn't know what he's gonna ask to do yet.

And so that's a theme, too.

People say yes, Lord, before they hear the.

So he says, Yes, Lord.

I'm I'm like, whatever you say, I'll do it.

And the Lord says, Go over to uh Strait Street, that's what I have in mind, um, to the house of Judas.

When you get there, ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul.

He's praying to me right now.

I've shown him a vision of a man named Ananias coming uh in and laying hands on him so he can see.

But Lord, exclaimed Ananias, I've heard many people talk about the terrible things this man has done to the believers in Jerusalem.

And he often he is authorized by the leading priest to arrest anyone who calls upon your name.

But the Lord said, Go, for Saul is my chosen instrument to take my message to the Gentiles and the kings, as well as the people of Israel.

I will show him how much he must suffer for my name's sake.

So Ananias went and found Saul, he laid hands upon him and said, Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus who appeared to you on the road has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Instantly something like scales fell from Saul's eyes, and he regained his sight.

Then he got up and was baptized.

Afterward he ate some food and regained his strength.

Yep.

And so there's that big, like, that big difference is, you know, this isn't just like a supernatural act protecting the church in Damascus.

This is like God has decided that Saul is going to be how the Gentiles learn and are welcomed into the family of faith.

And so, which is crazy because you feel like you would, if you're God, choose a Gentile to do that.

Yeah, or one of your disciples that you were working with for years.

Right.

You know what I mean?

To like And instead, it's this person who is, you know, on the complete opposite side, completely associated with the thing that like killed Jesus.

And so I think this uh, you know, it's just really encouraging on a the personal level of like my life can change so much and in ways that I couldn't possibly anticipate, aren't even on my radar.

But how much greater are the things that God has for me than the things that I was planning to go about and do myself?

And then, like you said, Ananias is such a funny uh You sure?

Are you sure that the the Saul of Tarsus, the same Saul?

Yeah.

And so Well, you know, it's funny, like uh Herb, who's on our worship team, has a story of how he he says that when he started coming here, God woke him up in the middle of the night and he was like, he heard his hands.

In the middle of the night, the Lord goes, his hands.

And I go, Oh man, we've been there already.

And I go back, I go, I close my eyes and go back to sleep.

I'm asleep again, and all of a sudden, here it comes again.

His hands.

I go, uh, we've been there already.

And I open my eyes and look up, and Darnae's standing in the bathroom, and she looks at me and goes, Where are we going to church today?

I go, his hands?

And she goes, His hands?

We've been there already.

I go, I know, but the Lord woke me up three times in the middle of the night to go to his hands.

And he knew of our church, and he was like, His hands.

And uh, you know, like God's like his hands.

Go to his hands, and he was like, his hands, that whatever.

He has a phrase for it.

He's like, that whatever something, church, I don't want to go to his hand.

And now Herb's like a fixture of his hands.

But you know, hey, sometimes God has to set up.

I'm glad he did.

Yeah.

Um, yeah, also what I what I love about this, and we can talk about it more as time goes on, but this is such a a great reminder of um who is the person you can least expect to follow Jesus.

Like in your own personal life, who who do you know that you would say, give me the lowest statistical odds of I don't have to name the person, but who do you know?

I'm trying to think of it.

Yeah, not happening.

Right.

Maybe like it's just a such an interesting thing, it's just the thing you have to remember with God is whoever you think is the least likely you have no idea.

Like God can change a person's heart in an instant, and someone can go from being like they can hate you and they can love you.

And so I don't know.

That's uh and I've known some people that have that perspective.

Like I will say that Steve and Susan, who started our church, they had a real knack for looking at people others would consider, you know, don't waste your time, far from God, never, and they were the ones that ended up like, I don't know.

Yeah, you've had this phrase, I don't know if it came from them, but it's been around for a while.

But like seeing people as pre-great, where it's like God's got their journey, He He's the one that's gonna handle their journey.

You don't have to rush that along, but you do like you do have to be patient and you know, yeah, anticipate that God has more for them.

Yes.

And a lot of times it's people that everyone else would would tell you, right?

Don't waste your time.

That person's not of this, not of that.

And so, not in God's eyes.

All right, cool.

Let's keep going.

All right, here we go.

So uh Saul stayed with the believers in Damascus for a few days, and immediately he began preaching about Jesus in the synagogue, saying he is indeed the Son of God.

So this happens immediately.

All who heard him were amazed, isn't this the same man who caused such a devastation among Jesus' followers in Jerusalem?

They asked.

And didn't he come here to arrest them and take them in chains to the leading priests?

Saul's preaching became more and more powerful, and the Jews in Damascus couldn't refute his proofs that Jesus was indeed the Messiah.

After a while, some of the Jews plotted together to kill him.

They were watching him day and night at the city gate so they could murder him, but Saul was told about their plot.

So during the night some of the other believers lowered him in a large basket through an opening in the city wall.

When Saul arrived in Jerusalem, he tried to meet with the believers, but they were all afraid of him.

They did not believe he had truly become a believer.

Then Barnabas brought him to the apostles and told them how Saul had seen the Lord on the way to Damascus, and how the Lord had spoken to Saul.

He also told them Saul had preached boldly in the name of Jesus in Damascus.

So Saul so Saul stayed with the apostles and went all around Jerusalem with them, preaching boldly in the name of the Lord.

His he debated with some Greek-speaking Jews, but they tried to murder him.

And when the believers heard about this, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him away to Tarsus, his hometown.

The church then had peace throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria, and it became stronger as the believers lived there in the fear of the Lord, and with the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, it also grew in numbers.

Nice.

So that's kind of the Paul chapter or Paul section of Acts chapter 9.

Saul to Paul.

Saul to Paul.

Miraculous encounter with Jesus, blinded, you know, but just for a few days.

Like, hey, you know, get lowered in a basket to escape.

Go from murderer to refugee.

To refugee to you know, people trying to kill you.

Um, and I will say it's it's also uh interesting.

I'll just say this like kind of a pastor uh thing is is I have known people that have gotten saved and like almost immediately began to to like preach.

There is something about that new convert, kind of like new believer passion that is really um energizing.

It is, it's really powerful.

Like it's just someone who can go from and I've known people who have that, and it there is something very it like it it stirs people in a different way than the person who they all already assumed and you know what I mean?

So it's very effective.

I think I've just been burned too much by that.

There's also going that wrong way.

I agree, I agree.

It's good to say because there also are people where it's like, hey, and and he's gonna have like a lot of time to mature, which we're gonna get to.

Definitely.

All right.

And now we start doing what is makes the book of Acts really hard to teach through when you're going through this, like as a series, is because now it's gonna go in like starting now.

It's like every half chapter, every three paragraphs, it's like Paul's over here doing this.

Peter's over here doing this.

Uh episode one started.

Meanwhile, why so it's like doo doo doo doo.

It's clearly a different planet on tattooing.

Exactly.

Yeah.

All right.

So meanwhile, Peter went here and there.

Peter traveled, Peter was traveling and he went from place to place and he came down to visit the believers in the town of Lida.

There he met a man named Aeneas, who had been paralyzed and bedridden for eight years.

Peter said to him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you, get up and roll up your sleeping mat, and he was healed instantly.

Then the whole population of Lida and Sharon saw Aeneas walking around, and they turned to the Lord.

Now there was a believer in Joppa named Tabitha, which is a Greek for which in Greek is Dorcas.

She was always doing kind things for others and helping the poor.

About this time she became ill and died.

Her body was washed for burial and laid in an upstairs room.

But the believers had heard that Peter was nearby at Lida, so they sent two men to beg him, please come as soon as possible.

So Peter returned with him, and as soon as he arrived, they took him to the upstairs room.

The room was filled with widows who were weeping, showing him the coats and other uh clothes Dorcas had made for them.

But Peter asked them to leave the room, and then he knelt and prayed.

Turning to the body, he said, Get up, Tabitha.

And she opened her eyes.

When she saw Peter, she sat up.

He gave her his hand and helped her up, and then he called in the widows and all the believers, and he presented her to them alive.

The news spread through the whole town, and many believed in the Lord, and Peter stayed a long time in Joppa, living with Simon, a tanner of hides.

There you go.

So people are getting healed and resurrected.

It's it's almost as if Jesus is continuing to work.

Yeah.

No, that's uh crazy.

And that's the you know, that theme that we keep harping on as we read through is just this is the continuate continuing work of Jesus, and it's through the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit's the main character.

Yep.

And it's one of those um chapters where you go, What's the point of this chapter?

You know, I I I put the even for the podcast, I sometimes put the message.

Writing hat on just to go, yeah, how would I communicate communicate this?

And I just wrote down while you're reading, you know, we've got the blind that can that can now see, and uh Saul's blindness is a spiritual blindness, not necessarily it is a spiritual blindness that then is represented through a physical situation between him and Ananias.

We've got the paralyzed that can walk, and we've got the dead being raised.

Yep.

And so, like just that connection of like the work of Jesus in our life, where it's like if there's a blind spot or there's something that's like we're spiritually dead to, like where we cannot see, like Saul couldn't see why he was doing that what he was doing was wrong, and that it was toward the risen Jesus.

Like he had that he thought he was doing the right thing in his mind, right?

You know what I mean?

Um so he's blind in that way, and then it takes a physical blindness to put him in his place in an encounter with Jesus to say, like, you need you know to change.

This is what life looks like now.

Um well, and I think that it it is a discipline in life to even maybe ask the question when you're facing major issues, trials.

I'm not saying that if you're sick, God did it to you.

Like this is a special situation, right?

But there's like, Lord, are you trying to get my attention?

Like, is there something you would like me to learn in this dark little period?

And you know, um, yeah.

Yeah.

And then the paralyzed walking, you know, that's just God can meet your physical needs, and he does.

And then I just Dor Dorcas or Tabitha, she's like, I feel like the sleeper resurrected person.

Do we ever talk about that's a small category of people who died and were resurrected, and she's kind of just we never really talk about her.

There's also the guy that falls out the window later in Acts.

Yes, and then they I don't know if he's ever officially declared dead, but she like she's pretty dead.

She came became ill in those days and died.

Uh it's funny.

I do it say how long she was dead?

It seems like a long time.

Long enough.

They washed her body and all that.

They they did prepare people for burial fast back then because you couldn't embalm.

And so, like, someone died.

Not not yet.

But like you had to get them buried pretty fast, otherwise, you know.

I will say this.

There's a commentator that I I have uh read a lot of, and he's phenomenal at history.

He means he's passed away for a long time, so he can't get mad if I say this, but um great at history, really understands um cult the culture of the day and all that kind of stuff.

So I I get a lot out of his commentary just from the world building and contextualization of things, but he's not he wasn't a huge believer in the miraculous.

So he would always describe stories like this as like she wasn't dead.

They thought she was dead.

They thought she was dead.

And uh as if the people back then didn't know what it was.

Yeah.

I actually would would venture to say that the people who lived in this era were far more familiar with death than the average person today.

Like seeing a dead body was a much more normal experience.

And I think that I I had a friend text me today because they were like Dead's not hard to figure out.

They caught a possum and they were asking for another friend's number who takes care of possums.

And I was like, what a weird world.

Like, if I caught a possum, it's like I don't know if I'd kill it, but I'd like don't you kill possums?

Is that okay?

Yeah, I mean, they're pretty gross.

Am I saying something that's not appropriate?

Like just kill, yeah.

Just kill it.

You you caught it.

That's the that's the hard part.

You captured a possum.

And now you now you need to find a shelter for it.

Well, I think it's this.

Which I love these people.

I'm not saying that they're doing the wrong thing.

It's the woods.

It's just we're not used to like this idea of something being dead, like or us causing death or anything.

Yeah, whatever.

But I'm saying the people back then I think they could recognize it.

I'll tell you one thing that really just challenges me.

Um, anytime I read about the fear of the Lord, I do feel personally challenged because I love that it says, you know, that the church had peace and they became stronger as they lived in the fear of the Lord.

And that that concept is both kind of simultaneous awe and wonder at what God had done and was doing, but also like taking things seriously in terms of obedience.

And I think it's just a challenge in all of our lives.

It is very easy in our culture and our time to be more flippant with our obedience to God than we ought to be.

And um, you know, I can be guilty of that.

And so I just I don't know.

Anytime I read that, I'm like, oh Lord, I I need to live in the fear of you in the right way.

And so yeah.

Yeah, and I think the part that, you know, pairing that with the specific call on Saul's life is uh really challenging for me because I feel like I'm I'm you know, I was thinking about conviction on Sunday during the message, just like how when you have convictions about something, it does make it easier.

Like there are some things that just aren't a question.

It's like I've decided that I'm gonna follow the way God has laid my life.

I'm not going to like well, should I?

Or yeah, what what what faith you know what I mean?

Like there's this is settled for me.

So it's like I know that I'm gonna live life a certain way with certain things because of my convictions, and I don't even have to use those as decisions.

But when it comes to like moments like that where Saul is being told by Jesus something specific about him that pertains to his life specifically, I think there's been moments in my life where I'll I'll hear the Lord speak to me or get the impression that he's speaking to me or revealing something to me.

And I'm like, I want to be obedient to that to its fullest degree, but sometimes I don't know how the details work out.

And, you know, it's like, how long did Ananias have to pray for Saul?

It's like how or it's like um when Jonah is told to go to Nineveh, and it's like he gives this really half-hearted prophecy, like in a couple days it's gonna all be turned over if you don't repent.

And then he leaves.

Right.

So it's like, was that the fullness of what God had for Jonah?

Or you know, was this the fullness for what he's calling specifically, not as it's written in scripture, because I will default to that.

Yeah, but when it's revealed to me personally, I think I have a hard time going, like, did I finish that?

Like, did I, or did I start that with really good intentions and kind of leave it laying?
