So good.

Hey, isn't God good?

That's good.

Uh, Art also left out the fact that he's single.

And so I just want to comment to that before we get anywhere.

I felt the Lord just say to me, if there's one thing you should say today, you need to highlight the fact that he's looking for a good woman.

Do we have his number on the screen?

Is that right?

A quick quick QR code.

Yeah.

Tell you what.

You have to go through his vetting process.

And uh and I'll give it to you as well as he's got a pile of different Instagram handles and all kinds of stuff, different ways to connect.

What a great guy.

Uh last Sunday, thank you, team.

Last Sunday we spoke about the uh importance of actually looking down.

And our series last week was really forged on the idea that we dig down deep.

Would you say that?

Dig down deep.

Dig down deep.

You need to be able to look down because uh and everything that uh you're gonna build up is gonna be based on what you're actually building upon.

The the man who built his house on the sand learned quickly that when the storm came and the rain came and the wind blew, that house wasn't able to stand because of what it was built on.

So we have to look down first and make sure that we're built on Christ, who is our firm foundation.

We dig down until we find Christ.

Everything here at church on a Sunday, all that we do is performative if it doesn't lead us to Christ, if it doesn't root us and ground us and secure us to Christ.

It's not about each other, it's not about ourselves, it's not about uh the environment, it's about Christ and Christ alone.

He is our firm foundation.

Everything we build our marriages, our relationship, marriage, marriage is marriage, marriage, our our relationships, any uh occupation and work we do is built on Christ.

But today the challenge is gonna be different.

The challenge is we've looked at digging down deep.

Now I want you to look up.

Would you say look up?

And that's gonna be our focus today.

Looking up.

A foundation was never the point.

No one digs a hole just to dig a hole and be like, done.

What a great hole.

You dig a hole because you're wanting to build on the foundation that that hole was dug for.

And eventually that that hole becomes the structure and becomes the foundation for what God has intended for us.

So we dig down deep and then we look up.

So fall, like you know, how many of you are grateful for fall?

It's this odd moment where I put aside a sweater uh last night.

I was like, yeah, I think I'm gonna wear this sweater, and then I looked at the at the temperature and I was like, no, it's not time for a sweater.

You're in that in-between season, but I can smell it in the air that there's a shift happening in the season.

And fall is probably one of my favorite seasons.

Who's a fall?

Fall, you know, you love the fall, especially in the Okanagan.

I think that the Okanagan just literally comes to life in the fall.

Uh, if you drive like five minutes in either direction, you actually find yourself uh being uh being um confronted with like fields of fruit and vegetables, and you see massive amounts of harvest.

You see orchards, vineyards, uh, pumpkin patches.

And don't tell me you don't see the pumpkin patches because I see on Instagram your annual pumpkin patch post.

And it's like me in a pumpkin patch with a bunch of pumpkins.

I've never taken one in, so uh maybe this will be the year.

Yeah, amen.

I hear that clap out there.

Pickers, you see the pickers' cabins, you see the trailers, you see all the boxes lined up in rows, you see people getting ready at this season for harvest.

And I believe that we will we live in one of the most beautiful pictures of this sermon in the entire country.

Most of us drive by it every week.

As I was driving this week with my wife, I said, look at this field, look at this orchard, look at this harvest that is here.

And we forget what it actually teaches us.

And here's something that you learn about growers in this area is that they're not usually worried about the crop actually being there.

They're worried about the fact that they've got to get enough hands on deck to actually collect the crop while the window is open.

One of the great celebrations is the harvest, and one of the great sorrows is walking through after, and people didn't get to the harvest fast enough, and you see the apples that are on the ground, and you see the fruit and the produce that's gone to waste.

And the window is short, but the fruit doesn't say, Hey, we're just gonna wait for your schedule.

We're not gonna come to full fruit or full fruition on your schedule.

Instead, the fruit is when the fruit is ready, the harvest hands need to be there to pick it.

It's often a special kind of heartbreak when you don't see it collected.

The saddest thing in the harvest is not a bad crop, it's a good crop that no one picks.

And Jesus had a language for this exact situation, and again, it's coming out of Luke chapter 10, where we're talking about a ministry mindset that starts with a foundation, and then Jesus communicates this.

Luke 10 · chapter mention

He says in verse 2, he says, the harvest is plentiful, abundant, but the workers are few.

Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out harvest workers into his harvest field.

And he doesn't, and uh what I like about Jesus here is he doesn't lead with difficulty.

He doesn't lead with a mass amount of difficulty here.

He doesn't say, you know, that that this is, you know, I'm gonna send you out, build this foundation, he he sees the 72 and he says, I'm gonna send you out, but instead he starts with like the harvest.

And later on he says, Listen, the way I'm sending you out, and and you're gonna be like lambs among wolves, which is probably the worst sales pitch you could ever present.

Like, go, 72, go in every direction, the harvest is plentiful.

You're gonna be out there like lambs among wolves, but it's gonna be okay.

It's like, well, I don't know if I'll start with that.

But what he started with was the fact that it's plentiful, that it's abundant, that the harvest is available.

You have to just look and see it.

The harvest is there.

He says it's there, but Jesus says one word about how hard it is, and then he tells them to actually see it.

And so Jesus doesn't correct their effort, he just says, I need you to correct your perspective, I need you to correct your vision, I need you to be able to see.

So my prayer today is, Lord, help me see.

Help me see the harvest.

We serve an abundant God.

We serve the Lord of the harvest.

Anyone who sees God as anything less than that has a wrong perspective of God.

The scripture says he actually places eternity in the hearts of men.

We have an eternal heart.

We've got a God who wants to fill our life with abundance and occupy every part of our life and make it abundant.

The fruit of his spirit in your life is full love, full joy, full peace, full rightness with God, full gentleness, kindness, self-control.

It's in us.

And it's abundant to us.

But he says you need to first look up.

In John chapter 4, he again references this.

John 4 · chapter mention

In verse 35, he tells his disciples to, or reminds them, he says, You say four months and then the harvest.

And I tell you, open your eyes and look on the fields, they're ripe.

It's ripe for harvest.

So God is saying, you know, the foundation is important, the ground is important, the rock that you build on is important.

Now, look up and see the opportunity.

See the harvest that's available.

Do you know that we could throw a rock from either side of this building and probably hit a space or a place where someone's occupied who doesn't know Christ?

You're gonna drive by people, talk to people, see people in your day today that do not know Christ and are looking for Christ, and are searching for Christ, and have a void in their heart that they're wondering what in this world can fill.

Jesus in John chapter 4, it's actually a really unique scene.

John 4 · chapter mention

He says he's at a well in Samaria.

And he's at this well, and he's the disciples he was with went to grab lunch.

So he's sitting at the well, and a woman comes, a Samaritan woman, comes to the well, and she comes and he asks her for a drink, and she says, What are you even doing?

Like you're a Jew, you're not even supposed to be talking to me.

Like you, you look down on us.

We're not even good enough to be your slave or your servant.

Like there's this huge divide happening.

And he says, he begins to break with her and begins to talk to her and says, You know what, you you can grab me a drink, but I am eventually, he said, I am the living water.

And if you drink from me, you'll never have to thirst again.

And she goes, Well, I want a drink of that.

And he says, Well, I've got that, and I am the one who is it.

And then he begins to read her mail.

And she said, he he she says, he says, You've got, you know, the husband of one.

He goes, No, you've been married five times, and the person you're with today isn't even the one that you're married to.

And she's like shocked.

Runs to town and starts telling everyone about the person that she sees at the well.

Here, the disciples, they arrive and they've got lunch.

And here, Jesus has had a full conversation, full engagement, full cultural conversation with this woman at the well, and they're asking him, Jesus, come on, uh, Jesus, like let that lady go.

Um, we've we've got lunch.

Jesus, are you gonna eat something?

Look, we went and we got you lunch.

And Jesus stops them and he goes, You guys don't even get it.

Don't you know that the harvest is plentiful?

And the harvest is ripe, and while they're talking to him, she's going out and getting the whole city to come and meet this man at the well who knows everything about her that she didn't even tell him.

And they're more concerned about the food and more concerned about their lunch than they are about the harvest that's available.

And Jesus says, You're thinking in a timeline, you're thinking four months and then the harvest.

And Jesus is saying, it doesn't matter, the harvester and the sower, they're gonna work in combo and it's gonna happen like right now.

But you've got to see it.

You've got to look and you've got to see that the harvest is now.

Look and see it.

Look and see it.

And you can be standing in a harvest and you can just be busy with your lunch.

So, what do you see when you look at this city?

What do you see when you drive through Kelowna?

What do you see when you look into our city?

Do you see it?

Do you see traffic or do you see people?

Do you see the housing market and the economy and the all these elements, or do you see what God is actually doing in this city?

Do you see the hungry?

Do you see the lost?

And the reality is that you can live in a city and you can live here for 30 years and never once see it.

What do you see when you see this church?

What do you see when you look at your family?

What do you see when you look at your place of business?

What do you see?

How do you see?

And some of us just begin to see from a different perspective.

Some people, you know, have you ever been with people who just see the empty seats?

They don't see the full, they see the glass as half empty, and there's always like a complaint or comparison or a criticism, and it's always there.

And they're living from a scarce mentality.

Well, Jesus, he says, I'm gonna send you out as ministers.

So not only have you got to dig down deep, you gotta look up and see the harvest.

See it for what it is.

It's now.

A scarce mindset counts what is missing, but uh a harvest mindset counts who is ready and who's available and who's ripe.

I love that Gideon he said, he's like, God, I don't know.

I've we've only got 300 people and like 300 soldiers, and we got just clay pots, a trumpet, and a torch.

Not necessarily the best like weaponry for military exploit.

And they are an army.

There's many.

But what he saw was they had God on their side.

They had more than a pot, more than a torch, more than a trumpet.

They had God on their side, and when they saw that, the game changed.

Scarcity looks at things different, but a harvest mentality, a harvest mindset sees the world differently.

I think about uh the problems in the city, and I think of David, who sees Goliath as a problem, and uh or that the the city Israel saw Goliath as a problem, but David saw it as an opportunity.

Who's gonna fight him?

No one will fight this big Goliath, and everyone's like telling him the story.

Well, he's been trained as a soldier from the youth.

He's a giant, he has six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot.

The guy has his own shield bearer because the shield is so strong.

You see how long his spear is?

Reach out and touch somebody.

It's just like it's out there.

And David goes, No, you don't see what I see.

I see that I'm a young person who has a covenant with God.

And he doesn't have a covenant with God, he's coming against God's covenanted people.

So David walks up there and says, I'm gonna feed you to the dogs and the birds.

I'm gonna take your head.

He doesn't even have a sword, he has a stone.

The mentality of the harvest is saying, like, we need to be able to see what God is doing, recognize God's work in our in our uh in our city, and recognize what God is doing in us, and see that there's a an opportunity that exists.

We need to look for, and what happens, unfortunately, but naturally, is there becomes a drift.

And the drift happens not because we're trying to create drift or we want to avoid the world or avoid the opportunity or avoid the harvest, but the fact is we get busy with the internal work, looking at ourselves, and we look at the people beside us and right in front of us, and we've got enough work that will actually fill up our week.

Like we've got enough that in our life it's like, do we have room for more?

I don't know if we have room for more.

Do I have room for another conversation?

Do I have room for another uh a moment?

And we stop looking for the harvest, and God sends us the harvest.

And unfortunately, a church that begins to just look inward doesn't become a holier church, it just becomes a smaller church.

But the fact is, God has a plan for us, and it's not evil, it's not ill-intended, it's just we don't see it.

So living with a ministry mindset means looking for the opportunities that God is bringing your way.

So when Jesus is sending out the 72, he says, You've dug a good foundation, great.

You've spent time with me, great, you've been with me, you've learned from me, you've studied with me, and you've asked your questions, great.

Now, look, I'm going to bring you opportunity.

I'm the Lord of the harvest, and everywhere you go, there's going to be a harvest in your life.

In KCC, sometimes, especially during next steps, they uh our orientation kind of uh of KCC in general, people ask, well, what's your plan for evangelism?

And we have groups that go out as evangelists, but I believe every individual in this room here is has got to be an evangelist, got to be able to share their faith.

Now, people say, Well, how do you do that?

Do you have like tent meetings?

How many of you remember tent meetings?

Sawdust, floors, music, just a little louder, everyone.

Like just it's the are you on a street corner?

Are you going door to door?

What are you doing?

And I always say the same thing to everyone who's in there.

Not that any other model or one model is better than another model.

I always say you need to take responsibility.

You can't rely on Pastor Brian, myself, others to go out and share the gospel.

You've got to take responsibility.

Amen?

Amen.

You've got people in your life that I will never encounter.

So you can't be calling me to come and meet somebody for you.

God brought them to you.

So you go and reach out to them.

So take personal responsibility, and this is all you do.

Number two, you share your story.

It's your story to share.

God gave it to you.

So share it.

Share it.

Well, share it from your heart.

Share it what God has done for you in your life.

And then third, make an invitation.

Come to church with me.

Come to small group with me.

Come with me.

Come join me and bring someone in.

Evangelism, reaching out to the harvest is uh something that is a uh a great opportunity.

For each one of us to be able to participate in.

So take responsibility, share your story to the people that are in your life, and then make an invitation and leave the results to God.

In Luke chapter 10, verse 2, he says the harvest is plentiful.

Luke 10:2

But our second point here is that the labors are few.

And the shortage is never the harvest, it's always the laborers.

Do you hear that word labor?

Work?

It's a four-letter word for some people.

W-O-R-K.

It's like, no, I don't want to.

It's like, no, when it comes to the harvest, the harvest requires you to work.

So we don't have a people problem.

We have a picker problem.

Who's gonna do the work?

Who's gonna climb the tree and grab those apples and harvest those cherries and work the soil?

Everyone is a minister, and everyone in this room is a harvester.

Turn to your neighbor and say, You're a harvester.

Come on, you're a harvester.

You're a harvester.

Um, it's interesting.

I every time I go through Vernon with my kids, we always stop in at Davidson's Orchard.

You know what Davidson's Orchard is, right?

A great little place to go.

And it's interesting that when you go there, um they don't say, Are you trained to pick an apple?

Have you gone through our certified course?

All you have to know is eye to the sky.

Eye to the sky.

I did enough school trips there to know that that was the only rule you needed to know, and place it gently in the bag.

My first job was at a farm uh or a garden, and uh I was manager of the garden at this place where they sold produce, and I would have to go out, manage the farm and the garden, and then bring all the produce in.

And you know what my onboarding program was?

Here is a bag, here is a bucket, get it.

Go.

And you know what I did every day?

I worked to get the harvest.

It was picking corn, it was pumpkins and squash, it was peas.

I hated peas, just picking the or beans.

I like there were some things I did not like to pick, but um beets, digging up the beets and the carrots and all like all the good stuff.

Harvest was the work, but you didn't need something special.

Do you know some people think, oh, to be an evangelist, to go and share your story, you need to have some kind of doctrinal degree.

And the reality is you don't.

Just go and get the work done.

Share your story, love on people, care for people.

Your story is a powerful story.

No one can take the the authenticity and the the value in your story.

The harvest doesn't need special performance, and this is what I was talking about with the team before Huddle today.

When I look at Isaiah chapter 6, I think about the the special performance, how we try and perform somehow before God.

Isaiah 6 · chapter mention

And Isaiah walks into the temple, and as he walks into the temple, it says the Lord Most High was there.

The Lord was there in the temple.

That's a good thing.

But his train of his robe, just the bottom part of his robe, filled the temple.

And then there were six angels in the temple.

Two covered his eyes with their wings, two covered his feet with the wings, and two just flew like a boss.

And they began to sing, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty.

The whole earth is filled with the glory.

And the more they began to sing it, the more the pillars began to shake, and the floor began to shake, and the roof began to shake, and the whole place was filled with smoke.

And Isaiah, his response is, I submit.

And the voice comes out, who shall I send?

Who will go for us?

And the response from Isaiah is, I'll go.

Do you know that there's no way we can compete with a performative like that?

God does all the performance.

It's about his performance, not ours.

Our only response is send me.

I'll go.

He goes, I am a man of unclean lips.

Like I'm not, and the Bible says the the angel came down from the altar, took a coal representing purification, touched his lips, and said, and cleansed him.

He says, You can go, you can send, like, I'll send you.

You're ready.

There was no performance to think, and I was struck with it this morning, how silly are we to think that my singing is going to somehow make it like my performance, how well I speak, how well I move, how well I dress is going to make a difference before the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.

It's not about my performance, it's his performance.

And my openness, my sacrifice of praise.

Lord, what can I do?

Where can I go for you?

What can I offer?

Just send me.

It's not a harvest problem that we have.

The shortage is never the harvest.

It's the workers.

Then Jesus says, I want you to pray.

Pray.

And as soon as they prayed, he says, now go.

So they be how many of you have ever prayed a prayer and you became the immediate answer to that prayer?

Father, deal with this, blah, blah, blah.

And the Lord's like, okay, you go ahead and deal with it.

Father, so-and-so needs some resources.

Lord, would you just be a solution for them?

And the Lord says, You need to give.

And it's like, oh, I prayed and now I go.

I pray and now I do.

And that's what Jesus did in this situation.

He says, You need to pray and then you need to go.

And we're going to spend some more time on prayer because I think it really is a greater part of our ministry mindset.

We do need to know how to pray.

And we it is our engine room for who we are and what we do.

But today I want us to talk about the fact that we can't do it for God.

Or we can't do it on our own.

We need God.

And today it's a time where we're looking at our future and we're looking at the fall.

And I love the testimony from art.

We have an opportunity, and I think when I look around this church, I think we have a great willingness in our people to actually see the harvest.

And see the church full and see our community transformed.

And see the kingdom established in Kelowna.

Streets of dancing, place of praise, our culture honoring Jesus, honoring God.

And I think when a person actually sees it, you don't have to beg them to work.

My parents have a big cherry tree in the backyard.

And as soon as the cherries are ready, and I come into the house with a few cherries and I show the kids, I'm like, hey, look what I have what I was able to pick outside.

The next thing you know, ladders are coming out, buckets are coming out, kids are climbing the trees because they want to be a part of the harvest.

And I believe in all of us we've got this interest and this desire to be a part of seeing the harvest here.

And the way we do that at KCC is like Art said, it comes through relationship.

And so I want to encourage everyone to be a part of a connect group because sometimes church can be a challenging place for bringing people directly.

I think God can meet people here.

I believe he does each week.

But I think a great opportunity is to connect people to a connect group.

Connect people there where people get to know the name.

The harvest doesn't really become real in a crowd.

The harvest becomes real when you actually know someone's name and you know their story.

And the best place to actually have that occur is actually through connect groups.

It becomes real.

Like you begin to pray for people.

We've prayed for art.

We've loved art.

We've walked through the his journey of faith and his journey of growth, faith, like spiritual growth with art.

We walk together.

He has someone he can call, he has a place where he can reach out because of a connect group.

So connecting is really important.

And I think everyone should be apart.

And inside of that connect group, I think every church or every connect group ought to have a symbolic empty chair.

And we should like walk our life with this mentality that says someone is out there that needs to be here.

And someone is out there that needs to be here.

And we need to be believing for that person to be here.

And I think I was I was feeling today to like challenge you to actually see three people, write three people's names down, people that you're praying for, believing for, trusting God for, that are searching that they too would come to Christ and pray for them every single day for the next 30 days.

Trust and believe and pray and work the harvest.

I had a situation where uh where um it was a good situation and where there was a strike in the city.

And as part of the strike in the city with the uh teachers union, they they shut down basketball and sports and athletics in the schools because it was an extra activity for some of the teachers to be a part of.

So I decided as a youth uh director, I was gonna go into the campuses and actually like just teach uh sports.

I played basketball, volleyball, so I was like, you know what, I can do this.

So I went into this group and I met these students that were a part of the team.

And uh as part of my heart for them, I was like, you know what?

I wasn't even thinking about salvation in particular.

I just cared for the kids.

And I said, I'm gonna write their names down, and it was a way for me to remember them, but also a way for me to pray for each one of them.

And every day I would pray for the students as part of that sports team.

Grade nine girls and grade nine boys.

And I prayed for them every day as part of that basketball season.

And I'll tell you this today I'll be walking down the street, or I'll see signs on the highways.

One of them is running for city counselor.

It's like that uh they are they are now following Christ because a moment in their life in grade nine was impacted because somebody, I believe, was praying for them.

We need to see.

So three ways you can walk into this week.

Number one, join a group.

You are committing, you aren't committing for life, okay?

Committing for a season to connect.

And there's so many awesome people in this room today, and I just want to make sure that you don't get missed.

Connect.

And if you're you don't find a group, open a group.

And people freak out, and I'm gonna say this, it's gonna be really contentious.

People are gonna be like, I don't think I can do it.

Do you know how to arrange a few seats in your living room?

Do you know how to pick up a phone?

Make an invitation?

Do you do you do you know how to open a book or put on a video?

Do you know how to have a discussion?

Take the time and join or not join just join a group, open a group.

And if you aren't a part of a group, fill a group.

Fill a group.

Join one that's happening.

We've all got a list of those.

They're gonna be out in the lobby today.

But join one, open one, fill one.

And I think together, you know, big church is great.

I love large church, but I really love small church.

And it is an essential part, a pillar of this community.

It's a pillar for your growth and for mine.

Amen.

Three names, 30 days.

Trust God, would you stand with me for the right person?

Just coming full circle today.

Um, you know, when God says to send uh send you to send us as workers into his harvest, you know that the whole part of being a harv in the harvest is not doing the work without him, it's actually doing the work in his field.

He is the Lord of the harvest.

And you're not doing this work alone, you're partnering with him, you're co-laboring with Christ to establish his kingdom and establish his work in this place.

So this is in this isn't a solo mission, this isn't a solo journey.

Together we're doing it.

So build down, dig down deep, dig down deep.

Every one of us, a minister in this room, needs to dig down deep, find the rock, secure yourself to the rock, which is Christ.

There's no other foundation but Christ.

Lock into the rock of your foundation, and then look up and see the generous, abundant harvest and space and place that God is leading you into.

He leads us into those places, into those spaces, because there are people who need to know Christ.

I always I always take on that mentality that if God has lifted you like in an elevator and you've gotten to the top, it's it's courteous to like push the elevator and get send it back down to actually get other people.

It's a way to actually push the elevator back down and say, hey, you know what, we're gonna help others find Christ as well.

It's not just enough for us to stay where we're at, but to help others find their way up.

And we do that by looking first.

Look up, see what God has brought us into, see who God has brought us to.

So, Father, today we thank you that you first found us, that someone reached out to us, that someone looked and saw us, that someone collected us, harvested us, pulled us in.

And we're so grateful, Father, for the harvesters who made a difference in our lives.

Father, teach us today to see, help us see, open our eyes to see, Lord, the harvest that's in front of us, the opportunity that's in front of us to be able to reach out and help and heal and support, Father, and restore and reconcile people to Christ.

Lord, you've made us all ministers of reconciliation, where we can minister peace and minister connection once again to the Father.

Identity, security, love, all that identity, all that opportunity, Father, you've given us to be able to be your agents here, your harvesters here.

We thank you, Lord, for the eyes to see.

Help us, Lord.

Give us courage, give us boldness, give us a heart that burns and is expectant for your work to be done in this place.

Help us to see, Lord, the city the way you see the city.

Help us to see families the way you see families, to see people the way you see people.

In Jesus' name, may our soul be moved, Lord, with the things that move yours.

In the name of Jesus, in the name of Jesus.

If you're here today and we never want to go a day where we gather together where the Spirit of God is here, and he draws you in, and the scripture says it's his kindness that leads us to repent.

And if you've been feeling that you've been running from God and you're far from him, I want to present you with an invitation today to turn to Christ and turn to him today and welcome him into your heart.

The Bible says he comes to you with grace, he comes to you with mercy, he comes to you in great love with every head bowed and eye closed.

If you're in the room today and you want to know Christ in a deeper and richer way, would you just raise your hand really nice, high and tall?

We're gonna pray together as a church, believing and pray a prayer of invitation and salvation.

Is anyone in this room today?

Anyone in this room today, we're talking about the harvest.

You're one of them.

If you're not here today, you're the one that Jesus wants close.

I see that hand.

Be bold about it, Father.

Would you just say this together with me?

Father, thank you for loving me.

Thank you for sending Jesus to die on the cross for me.

Today I accept this gift of salvation.

I believe that Jesus, you are my Lord.

I confess today that I've turned from you, and today I'm turning to you.

I confess you as my Lord and my Savior.

Thank you, Jesus, for being with me and being close to me.

In Jesus' name.
