  1. Heat. Heat.

  2. Come on. It's Sunday morning. Who's

  3. grateful to be here?

  4. >> Let's go,

  5. guys. I'm just I'm blown away at the

  6. things that God's doing. I love uh

  7. whether you ex experienced a physical

  8. healing today, whether you experienced

  9. some prayer that was encouraging and

  10. comforting to you. I don't know exactly.

  11. Every Sunday, what I love about it is is

  12. I wake up early. I'm praying over the

  13. service. I'm praying over the message.

  14. I'm praying over this time. And I I

  15. don't know what exactly God's going to

  16. do, but I know God is going to move. And

  17. so I promise you that every single time

  18. where two or three are gathered there in

  19. in my name, there I will be also. So I

  20. promise you if you have not already

  21. gone, man, I've gotten something from

  22. the Lord. I promise you he still has

  23. something to give. Right? you still

  24. there is every single time we get

  25. together if my heart if my ears are

  26. ready my heart is ready to receive and

  27. I'm ready to follow through and obey God

  28. is going to speak. He's going to move.

  29. He's going to transform. And he's going

  30. to continue to take us one step closer

  31. to being like Christ. Amen.

  32. >> Amen. So that's where honestly when I

  33. when I think about uh it's not just

  34. about what I receive, it's about how I

  35. respond, right? I've got to make sure

  36. that I'm responding the right way. And

  37. and and guys, last week we saw God do so

  38. many cool things. The altar was flooded.

  39. Three people gave their lives to Jesus

  40. as either a salvation or rededication.

  41. Come on, that's worth celebrating. That

  42. is incredible.

  43. And I want to say if you have made the

  44. decision that Jesus is your lord, that

  45. he is your savior, that he's in charge

  46. of your life, and it's not just you,

  47. right? But you have not been baptized as

  48. an adult,

  49. now is your time, right? Because you, we

  50. see, as we see in scripture, baptism is

  51. always by my decision, not my parents'

  52. decision, not being baptized as a baby.

  53. that it's by my decision that I say yes,

  54. I will follow. And so I know that we

  55. next week we got baptism Sunday, new

  56. life Sunday is what we call it where we

  57. have baptisms, child dedications. And if

  58. you have not been baptized as an adult

  59. and you believe

  60. in in Jesus as he is your Lord, if you

  61. believed he has come to earth, died,

  62. rose again on the third day, and that he

  63. is your savior, then this is your

  64. chance. You can scan. I encourage you

  65. scan the QR code and even if you just

  66. have questions like I'm not sure if this

  67. actually is for me. Uh but I'd love to

  68. be able to have a conversation with you

  69. and figure out what's God doing? Are you

  70. ready? Is this for you? For some people,

  71. they even go, you know what? I was

  72. baptized as a as a teenager or something

  73. like that. And I the last 5, 10, 20, 30

  74. years, whatever it may be, I've had a

  75. period of time in my life that I've been

  76. running away from God, right? Not just

  77. like I sinned last week, right? But I've

  78. been running away from God. And now I'm

  79. recommitting. And I feel a conviction in

  80. my soul that I need to declare to the

  81. world that Drew is dead. I am dead. I've

  82. been buried. And now there's new life.

  83. There's a new person here. The old is

  84. gone. The new has come. This is your

  85. opportunity. You can also in the blue

  86. with the blue card that you have in

  87. front of you, you can uh fill out the

  88. information. Check the box. I want more

  89. information about baptism and turn that

  90. in in any of the give buckets, the give

  91. boxes outside or at the tent. But I am

  92. it's one of my favorite Sundays. Who's

  93. who's been to a new life Sunday and like

  94. how much fun is that? Oh guys, it's so

  95. cool. Everybody gives a little glimpse

  96. at at at part of the testimony of what

  97. God's doing in their life and it is

  98. thrilling. So that is next week. Come

  99. ready. Uh and I can't wait to see what

  100. God's doing. But I don't know about you

  101. guys. Uh every once in a while I'll have

  102. statements that just like kind of get

  103. stuck in my head. Sometimes I got a song

  104. stuck in my head. Every once in a while

  105. it's a statement stuck in my head. There

  106. is an old commercial of a a really local

  107. commercial. I was not able to find this

  108. anywhere. There's an old commercial of

  109. uh of of a gentleman who's talking about

  110. how cheap the items are at his store and

  111. he holds up two different items and he

  112. says, "Look at this. This is uh uh like

  113. the the same shirt and here it's $100

  114. and here it's $50." And then HE SAYS,

  115. "IT'S THE SAME THING, RIGHT?" RIGHT? And

  116. he goes and then he pops pulls up two

  117. watches and he says, "This one's $75 and

  118. this one's $35." WHAT IS IT'S THE SAME

  119. THING. I don't know about you guys, that

  120. commercial has always stuck with me. If

  121. anybody ever says it's the same thing,

  122. that guy and his annoying salesman voice

  123. pops back up in my head and I go, "It's

  124. the same thing." What' you say? I didn't

  125. say Sorry, I DIDN'T THAT WAS OUTSIDE. I

  126. MEANT TO KEEP that inside. I'm sorry.

  127. But I the it's this it's this idea of

  128. this same thing but for cheaper but for

  129. less. And I feel like that is what my

  130. heart cries out. When I experience the

  131. same problem that I've had a thousand

  132. times before when we come across the

  133. same temptation and I'm like wait it may

  134. look different. Here's the problem. We

  135. don't always realize that the different

  136. ways, the different ways I'm sinning may

  137. actually have the same root. I may have

  138. a problem with addiction to alcohol or

  139. drugs or food or or screens or

  140. relationships or or strongholds in any

  141. of these areas. And it may change the

  142. way I express it, but when I look at the

  143. problem, I got to say it's the same

  144. thing, right? It's the same problem.

  145. That's where I want to get here today as

  146. we talk about hunting Phoenix, fighting,

  147. defeating the battles that just keep

  148. coming back. We talked last week about

  149. coming weak, coming broken. When I'm

  150. empty, he can fill me. Right? When I

  151. come broken, he can heal me. He can make

  152. me whole. That's what God does. And

  153. today we're talking about identifying

  154. the root and building the support around

  155. you to actually

  156. strip the power away from sin.

  157. >> Amen.

  158. >> Okay. Romans chapter 6 verse 7 says when

    Romans 6:7

  159. we died with Christ, that's this picture

  160. of baptism, right? I've been submerged.

  161. I've been I'm I'm in the grave. I'm

  162. done. And now I'm ro I'm risen again

  163. with him. I take the same picture of his

  164. death, burial, and resurrection. And now

  165. I live that when we died with Christ, we

  166. were set free from the power of sin.

  167. AMEN. ISN'T THAT GREAT? COME ON. WHO'S

  168. WHO'S GRATEFUL FOR THAT? LET'S GO.

  169. But if any of y'all have been saved for

  170. longer than two and a half minutes,

  171. you're like, sometimes it doesn't feel

  172. that way,

  173. >> right? It's like, yeah, I'M SET FREE

  174. FROM THE POWER of sin and I just did the

  175. same thing again,

  176. right? Like, I gave my life to Christ

  177. last week. I was one of those three

  178. people, and this week was better,

  179. but wasn't fixed. What do I What do I

  180. do? So, there's a difference between

  181. salvation, the moment that I move from

  182. darkness to light, and sanctification,

  183. the the process of becoming new and

  184. becoming like Christ, but I have been

  185. set free. So once you say I am yours and

  186. he implants his spirit inside of you and

  187. he is living inside of you. You now no

  188. longer does sin carry power or authority

  189. over you except

  190. that which you give it.

  191. >> This is where we find our problem. This

  192. is where we see that we are giving

  193. authority.

  194. Right? It's not even necessarily power.

  195. It's this authority, this permission,

  196. this agreement that I've made with sin,

  197. with the enemy, with lies that I've

  198. heard. And and I make this agreement

  199. that I continue to submit underneath

  200. knowingly or not. There's two resources

  201. I used for this uh sermon and series

  202. that if you I I I beg you, please, if

  203. you go, man, this is for me. I'm going

  204. to like skip a rock across this stuff,

  205. guys. I wish we could dive so deep into

  206. this for so long, but these are two

  207. resources that if you go this is for me,

  208. this is going to be great. It is steps

  209. talked about this one on the right. This

  210. is uh the there's a lot in this series

  211. that comes from this takes about takes

  212. the idea that AA was built from a

  213. biblical understanding a Christ-c

  214. centered understanding and it's been

  215. changed to refer to it as the big book

  216. or the good book or what like like this

  217. idea of there is a god and and it's

  218. trying to make it accessible to lots of

  219. people no matter how they feel about

  220. Christianity. But what it's doing is

  221. it's revealing Christ the entire time,

  222. right? And so this is all about how do I

  223. use actually the word of God and the

  224. spirit of God in partnership with 12

  225. steps. And then the other one, the lie

  226. that you don't know, you believe is a

  227. lot of what we're going to be talking

  228. about today by Jenny Allen. But this is

  229. uh what I want to highlight today is in

  230. John chapter 4. If you want to open up

    John 4 chapter mention

  231. your Bibles, we're going to be going

  232. through John chapter 4. It's really 1

    John 4 chapter mention

  233. through30. If you want to read this

  234. later, we're not going to read every

  235. verse. That'd be a lot. Uh, and so I'm

  236. going to summarize a little bit of

  237. what's going on. John chapter 4 1-30.

    John 4 chapter mention

  238. Jesus is walking through a Samaritan

  239. town. It says he had to and actually

  240. though it was the shortest route to get

  241. to Jerusalem where he was heading. It is

  242. not the traditional route because we got

  243. to understand culturally that Jesus was

  244. a Jew. He was a Jewish male. He was a

  245. Jewish male rabbi. So he is this like

  246. elite figure in this culture and then

  247. you have underneath Jews you have

  248. Samaritans and there's this racist very

  249. racist right like this whole culture of

  250. like the Samaritans and then also women

  251. men would not talk to women especially

  252. not alone Jews would not talk to

  253. Samaritans rabbis would not talk to

  254. little weak old who knows what you're

  255. doing like they they are teachers they

  256. are called masters right this this whole

  257. idea of is multiple levels of culture

  258. and Jesus walks into this town that he

  259. could have walked around and he walks

  260. into this town. He's thirsty. He goes to

  261. a well. There is a Samaritan woman there

  262. and he says, "Hey, you got a bucket. I'm

  263. at this well. Could you get me some

  264. water?" And she responds as you would

  265. think in that culture someone would

  266. respond. She goes,

  267. "Why are you asking me for something?"

  268. Like, "What are you doing? Do you not

  269. understand? Like, are you new here?

  270. Like, we don't do this." Like, there's

  271. so many levels of separation. I don't

  272. have to worry about coming to you when I

  273. go to the well or you you talking to me

  274. when I go to the well. Right? It's like

  275. when you're riding an Uber, need

  276. silence, and then they're like, "Hey, so

  277. let me tell you my life story." Right?

  278. That's kind of how I think she felt. but

  279. also these hierarchy differences of like

  280. you think you're great, I think I'm a

  281. loser, and I recognize that we're not in

  282. the same tier socially. Jesus breaks

  283. that down immediately. He speaks to her.

  284. She says, "Why are you asking me for

  285. something?" And he kind of flips it and

  286. he's like, "Listen, you if you knew what

  287. was going on here, you would be the one

  288. asking me for something because I've got

  289. not just water, I've got living water."

  290. and she's she looks at him and she goes,

  291. "You don't even have a bucket.

  292. >> How are you going to get water and

  293. you're saying it's better than this is

  294. the best well around?" Like, what are

  295. you talking about? So, she's not she

  296. doesn't understand that Jesus is using a

  297. metaphor to reveal a spiritual thing at

  298. this point. She's just like starting to

  299. go, "Wait, this is different." And then

  300. this is where we find in verse number 13

  301. where it says Jesus replied, "Anyone who

  302. drinks this water is going to soon be

  303. thirsty again." Right? But those who

  304. drink the water I give, this living

  305. water will never be thirsty again. It

  306. becomes a fresh bubbling spring within

  307. them, giving them eternal life.

  308. Okay, please sir, she said, I want this

  309. water. then I'll never be thirsty again

  310. and I won't have to come here to this

  311. dang well ever again and talk to weird

  312. strangers, right? And uh she is she's in

  313. this place where she finally is is still

  314. still like making this physical

  315. understanding and Jesus is revealing

  316. there's wellwater that kind of

  317. represents the world, our flesh. It

  318. represents this constant searching for

  319. satisfaction.

  320. I'm thirsty. I get a drink. Step outside

  321. on Friday. It's 90 degrees.

  322. I'm out there for two and a half

  323. minutes. I'm sweating bullets. And now I

  324. come back. I'm like, I'm thirsty again.

  325. I literally just drank and I'm thirsty

  326. again. Right. It's this problem like I I

  327. constantly I'm always needing

  328. satisfaction. The world I just I I need

  329. I need to be filled by this this bottle.

  330. I need to be filled by this

  331. relationship. I need to be filled by

  332. this person. by this affirmation you

  333. affirmed me earlier, but now I'm

  334. wondering if YOU LOVE ME AGAIN. I don't

  335. know, right? Like I NEED TO BE FILLED by

  336. my the the authority that I have at

  337. work. I need to be satisfied by and it

  338. just it's like water slipping through my

  339. fingers.

  340. I'm going, man, it just never lasts.

  341. The relationship just it was great and

  342. now it's not and it's I don't know.

  343. you're not doing for me what I was

  344. hoping you'd do for me. It's not not

  345. lasting. It's not doing it. And then

  346. Jesus has this living water, this idea

  347. of I'm satisfied in the depths of my

  348. soul completely.

  349. And actually, no longer do I need

  350. anything else to satisfy me.

  351. That's why scripture says God is enough.

  352. Doesn't always highlight God's more than

  353. enough. It's like he's I'm satisfied.

  354. I'm good. I don't need anything else.

  355. I I already have plenty. I'm I'm in this

  356. like, yeah, I'm content. If I get a

  357. relationship, hallelujah, praise the

  358. Lord. It better be honoring to him

  359. because that's my number one goal,

  360. >> right? If I if I go out and I'm hanging

  361. out with my friends and they're

  362. drinking, I may I may take a little bit.

  363. I may I may not maybe that's been my

  364. vice before and I'm not even going to be

  365. around that stuff at all, but but you

  366. know what? I'm going to because I got

  367. I'm fully satisfied. I don't need that

  368. thing to satisfy me anymore.

  369. And it's this he's revealing this new

  370. concept and it actually steps into this

  371. first

  372. idea of how do you strip sin of its

  373. power?

  374. Because what Jesus does next

  375. is he catches the sin in her life or the

  376. trigger.

  377. Okay, we're going to hit on catch the

  378. sin or the trigger. That's step number

  379. one for stripping the phoenix of its

  380. authority in my heart. Jesus says this

  381. in verse 16. He says, "Okay, how about

  382. you go and get your husband?"

  383. Well, I don't have a husband. He said,

  384. "Actually, you're right. I know this.

  385. You don't have a husband, for you've had

  386. five, and you aren't even married to the

  387. man you're living with now. You

  388. certainly spoke the truth.

  389. Now, what did he just do? He hit on the

  390. surface. He caught this. It's this

  391. moment in my life. Well, where where I

  392. look at and I go, man, I don't know what

  393. I don't know what the problem is. I

  394. don't know what the surface area thing

  395. if it's alcohol. I do got to say I I

  396. gave a warning last week. I want to

  397. clarify as well. This series, we're

  398. going to be talking about sin. We're

  399. going to be talking about all types of

  400. sin, addiction, all that stuff. And so,

  401. we have an amazing kids ministry. I'm

  402. going to be a little bit more unfiltered

  403. here. And so I encourage you guys if you

  404. have kids to to send them over there

  405. because I'm gonna be talking about it

  406. all. Okay. So, uh, here's the idea.

  407. Whether you're addiction, whether your

  408. problem, whether you're authority, the

  409. idea is like it's it's in in my life

  410. it's it's pornography,

  411. it's sexual relationships,

  412. it's money, it's whatever. It's it's the

  413. it's the way that when someone speaks to

  414. me and I I hear something different,

  415. right? Like it may not even be a surface

  416. thing. It may be a trigger. It may be I

  417. don't know why, but when you say this to

  418. me, it hits and it hurts more than I

  419. know more than it should, but it hurts a

  420. lot. And I get this I I I catch this

  421. sin. I catch this trigger and I got to

  422. notice that. Whoa, there it is. There's

  423. a problem. There's something inside of

  424. me. What that does is it reveals on the

  425. surface that there's something inside

  426. that's giving that authority and power

  427. over me. And so this Samaritan woman,

  428. she had, what was her thing that she

  429. caught? It was five husbands plus one

  430. man that she's living with now that she

  431. shouldn't be living with. What does this

  432. tell me? This tells me a couple

  433. different things. It tells me one, she's

  434. living in sin right now. Scripture says,

  435. "Honor the marriage bed. Keep it holy."

  436. That sex is reserved for marriage

  437. because that's the covenant. It's the

  438. way that we were designed. It's the way

  439. that covenant was designed. is the way

  440. that that the the peak of physical

  441. intimacy was designed for one person in

  442. the same way that my heart and the

  443. intimacy that I have with the Lord is is

  444. deeper and more real than anybody else.

  445. And so that's that he's he's calling

  446. that out. But here's the reality. She

  447. may not culturally speaking, she may not

  448. have had uh had had five divorces

  449. because of adultery. I don't know.

  450. There could be a lot of different

  451. reasons. It could be promiscuity.

  452. It could be uh some of her husbands

  453. could have died, right? Culturally

  454. speaking, women were primarily seen as

  455. value. Wives, I should say, were

  456. primarily seen as valuable based off of

  457. creating the next generation

  458. infertility. If she was infertile, then

  459. it probably would have been like, hey,

  460. let's get married. Ah, you're not doing

  461. it. I can divorce you because you're not

  462. creating my next generation. So, I don't

  463. know exactly what is going on in this

  464. surface issue.

  465. But I know Jesus is calling it out.

  466. I know he's saying, "Here's this thing

  467. that feels unsettled in your soul."

  468. Right? And I want to reveal that there

  469. is something more. Now, before we talk,

  470. one important context to this is the

  471. what our understanding of sin is. When

  472. we think of sin, a lot of times we think

  473. of uh there there's two different ways

  474. to think of it. It's the surface area. I

  475. did a bad thing, right? Yes, doing a bad

  476. thing is sin, but ultimately sin means

  477. missing the mark. I had a mark to hit

  478. and I missed it. What is the mark we're

  479. called to hit? Be perfect. Therefore, as

  480. your heavenly father is perfect. Okay,

  481. that's like saying, "Here's a bow and

  482. arrow.

  483. Shoot the target. It's the moon. Go."

  484. I'm not going to be able TO HIT THAT. AS

  485. HARD AS I TRY, AS GOOD AS I DO, I may

  486. have the best bow and arrow shot in the

  487. whole world that's ever happened in all

  488. of human history. I'm not going to do it

  489. right. The reality is is that I've got a

  490. limitation. I've got imperfection. And

  491. so I' I'm in sin all the time. Triggers

  492. are not sin.

  493. Hear me. My emotion

  494. is not sin. Scripture says be angry

  495. and don't sin in your anger.

  496. There's some things that should make me

  497. angry. My emotion is not sin. How I

  498. respond to it may be.

  499. >> How I submit to it often is

  500. >> right. That is that's the problem. So, I

  501. got to recognize that my trigger may be

  502. rooted in how I've been treated in

  503. statements that have been made to me in

  504. abuses or traumas that I've experienced

  505. in my life that are 100% legitimate. But

  506. it doesn't mean I have to stay there,

  507. that there is a freedom still to be

  508. offered by Christ. So, I got to catch

  509. that. I got to recognize that. And then

  510. in verse 19,

  511. she responds to Jesus and says, "Sir,

  512. you I can tell you're a prophet. So tell

  513. me this. Why is it that you Jews insist

  514. that Jerusalem is the only place of

  515. worship where we Samaritans claim it to

  516. is here at Mount Garazim where our

  517. ancestors worshiped?"

  518. Don't you guys see the deep intimate

  519. connection there?

  520. It's called a distraction,

  521. divergence. I'm just trying TO AH UH, WE

  522. GOT A PROBLEM HERE. I GOT AN ISSUE. THIS

  523. IS THE PROBLEM. LET ME LET me As soon as

  524. I start to hit the nail on the head, the

  525. enemy loves to distract. He loves to

  526. pull. No, it's their fault. No, it's

  527. this thing. Don't forget about the thing

  528. that you have to do. Let's keep you busy

  529. again. You're starting to find that

  530. you're starting to find the problem.

  531. DON'T DO THAT. And he'll distract you.

  532. Find a place where I can allow for the

  533. Lord to actually minister. So, she tries

  534. to distract. And Jesus says, "Believe

  535. me, dear woman, the time is coming where

  536. it will no longer matter whether you

  537. worship the father on this mountain or

  538. he's" He's saying that doesn't matter.

  539. That's not even what we're talking

  540. about. Okay, chill out, lady. Right?

  541. That's basically what And then verse 23,

  542. skip ahead. It says, "The time is

  543. coming. Indeed, it's actually now here.

  544. This is what matters." He says, "When

  545. true worshippers will worship the father

  546. in spirit and in truth. The father is

  547. looking for those who will worship him

  548. that way." He's saying the issue is not

  549. location. The issue is you've got a

  550. worship issue.

  551. You got a problem. I don't know. Jesus

  552. sees into her heart. I don't know if

  553. she's got a worship issue of I've always

  554. got to find that next one. I don't know

  555. if she's got a worship if issue of like

  556. I need to prove my value based off my

  557. fertility. I don't know if she I don't

  558. know what she is experiencing. But Jesus

  559. then says, "Here's your surface. I'm

  560. going to call out the lie. We catch the

  561. sin. We call out the lie. And there's

  562. something deeper inside underneath the

  563. surface of our sin of our problems

  564. that's preventing us from living in in

  565. in freedom. That's why I can constantly

  566. beat the surface of the water of my sin

  567. down. And I got to realize there's an

  568. undercurrent that's actually going to

  569. allow for this thing to continue to stir

  570. up and cause a problem. This is where uh

  571. that that not every sin, not every

  572. mistake missing the mark that I have,

  573. not every sin has a core lie, but every

  574. stronghold,

  575. every time that I see this thing

  576. repeatedly coming up and I can't seem to

  577. get rid of it, every stronghold has a

  578. lie that I'm in agreement with.

  579. There's a long list of lies that we can

  580. make,

  581. that we can agree to, that we can submit

  582. to. The uh the lie that you don't know,

  583. you believe

  584. is a book that actually Jenny Allen

  585. highlights that the first three of these

  586. list of lies she says encompasses all of

  587. them. You can find it in those. But

  588. here's here's lies that we believe.

  589. I'm helpless.

  590. So therefore, that's the lie that's

  591. under the surface of these sins that I

  592. have. I'm unlovable.

  593. I'm worthless.

  594. No, I'm a failure.

  595. That's one for me when I voiced it years

  596. ago to my mentor and I go, this is what

  597. I'm feeling. I broke and it hit took

  598. away the all these surface things.

  599. That's the problem. You know what? I'm

  600. not enough. I'm not good enough. I'm not

  601. strong enough.

  602. I'm not rich enough. I'm not whatever it

  603. is. I'm not safe.

  604. Whatever it is, someone's coming to

  605. attack me. I'm not safe. I'm not okay.

  606. I'm I'm broken.

  607. Is I just

  608. I'm not good at that stuff because I'm

  609. too messed up. You don't understand the

  610. mess in my story, the sins that I have

  611. done, the things that have been done to

  612. me. I'm too broken. Maybe it's it's all

  613. up to me.

  614. I must perform because it's up to me.

  615. Maybe it's I'm a loser.

  616. And what not always do we think of this

  617. as the sense of like the the the middle

  618. school bully saying you're a loser, but

  619. the idea of like I in the end I lose.

  620. In the end, it always comes back to bite

  621. me. Other people come out on the winning

  622. side. I don't.

  623. as Polar Express the bull and polar he

  624. says I don't know things just don't work

  625. out for me

  626. these lies that there there may be a lot

  627. of these that we find ourselves in

  628. agreement with and we don't always know

  629. that's it

  630. that's why when you said that thing and

  631. I felt so triggered it's because I feel

  632. like you're going to abandon me because

  633. I I kind of think I'm unlovable.

  634. I step into this relationship and I keep

  635. my defenses up because I'm not safe.

  636. I continue to drink away my memories

  637. because I'm helpless. What else am I to

  638. do? I'm too broken.

  639. Right? This is these are the problems he

  640. calls out. We catch the sin and then we

  641. got to call out the real lie that's

  642. underneath. There may be a different lie

  643. that you have and I want you to take

  644. time. We got homework this week. You

  645. take time to wrestle through what is

  646. this deep lie that I believe

  647. that my sin and the triggers that I

  648. experience

  649. is actually standing on. It's the force

  650. that keeps this phoenix flying.

  651. I can strip away the power.

  652. See, if you can define it,

  653. you can defeat it. But what happens a

  654. lot of times as soon as we define it, we

  655. let it define us. And so we've got to

  656. recognize that once I get to the lie of

  657. that, there's another side of this. And

  658. that's where we see in verse 24, John

    John 4:24

  659. 4:24, Jesus says this, "For God is

  660. spirit. So those who worship him must

  661. worship him in spirit and in truth." The

  662. woman said, 'I know the Messiah is

  663. coming, the one who is called the

  664. Christ, and when he comes, he's going to

  665. explain everything to us. I don't need

  666. to hear from you. Is what she's saying.

  667. There's a there's a much better person

  668. coming. I've heard it's coming pretty

  669. close. I hear I hear that the prophecies

  670. in Daniel say that it should be right

  671. around this time that we're living in

  672. right now. So, I'm waiting for this guy.

  673. And Jesus told her, I am the Messiah.

  674. Here's the reality is that Jesus is

  675. always where the answer is found.

  676. I can wait for a million different

  677. solutions. I can wait for all these. If

  678. I go to If I go to you with my lie, you

  679. can help me process it. If you come to

  680. me with your lie, I can help encourage

  681. you. I can't do anything with it. I

  682. can't put it in the grave. I can't give

  683. you power over. I can teach you how to

  684. like walk and figure it out. That's what

  685. that's the problem with counseling. A

  686. lot of times, secular counseling says,

  687. "Here's the lie you're believing. Now,

  688. let's learn how to walk with it and love

  689. it and live with that." Uh-uh. We can't

  690. do that. So, instead, I've got to call

  691. out the lie and counter it with the

  692. truth. And I got to look to Jesus. Okay?

  693. So, I'm ready. Are you guys ready? I

  694. want you to see. We have the list of

  695. lies. Here's uh the the counters of

  696. truth. I'm helpless. NO, NO, NO, NO, NO.

  697. HE IS MY STRENGTH.

  698. I'M UNLOVABLE.

  699. He loves me way more.

  700. >> He loves me more than I will be able to

  701. ever fathom, ever than I will be ever

  702. able to to comprehend. Than I will ever

  703. be able to even come close to loving him

  704. back. He I am worthless. NO, NO, NO.

  705. LOOK TO HIM. HE HAS ALREADY DETERMINED

  706. MY VALUE. HE SAYS, "YOU ARE WORTH THE

  707. DEATH of my child.

  708. I GAVE MY SON FOR YOU. I DON'T CARE HOW

  709. much value you see you have. I see more

  710. in you. I'm a failure. Uh-uh. Jesus, he

  711. is my victory. He takes every failure I

  712. bring and transforms it into something

  713. good. Amen. I am not enough. He

  714. satisfies

  715. me. He is enough. I am not safe.

  716. He's my protector.

  717. He's the one who guards me. He is my

  718. shelter. He is my refuge. He is my

  719. strength. I am broken, but he is my

  720. healer. I don't have to stay broken.

  721. It's all up to me. I've got to perform.

  722. I've got to make it happen. No, no, no.

  723. He leads. I just listen.

  724. I got the burden of obedience. That's

  725. the easy light burden that he calls me

  726. into. I just say yes. I want to be

  727. really good at just saying yes to him

  728. all the time. I am a loser in the end.

  729. It just doesn't work out for me. I end

  730. up failing at the end. Guess what? His

  731. victory has made me more than an

  732. overcomer. Counter with the truth.

  733. And every single one of these has

  734. multiple we don't have room on the

  735. screen has so many Bible verses that

  736. come with this. Don't just speak a

  737. truth. Speak the word of God. When Jesus

  738. is faced in temptation, do you know

  739. Jesus, when we think about the

  740. temptation of Jesus, we think like he

  741. fought the enemy and he like like

  742. whatever. Like it was fine. It was easy.

  743. He was tempted.

  744. It looked good to him. And he countered

  745. not with his own inspirational words. He

  746. countered with the word of God. And I

  747. find verses that I'm that are going to

  748. support that that build this where I go,

  749. "Wait, wait, wait. I know he is my

  750. strength." Guys, this is what I love. If

  751. you need to like Google, use AI. What

  752. are Bible verses that talk about God

  753. being my strength, right? Let and then

  754. don't let AI feed you. Let the word of

  755. God feed you and it'll point you to

  756. that. And then I open up my Bible and I

  757. read the context and I allow for the

  758. Lord to minister into my soul. Amen. So,

  759. we counter with the truth.

  760. And then

  761. we've got a big step and this is what I

  762. want us to focus on here. Okay. John

    John 4 chapter mention

  763. chapter 4. The woman left her water jar

  764. beside the well and ran back to the

  765. village, telling everyone, telling

  766. everyone, "Come and see a man

  767. who told me everything I ever did.

  768. Could he possibly be the Messiah?"

  769. So people came streaming from the

  770. village to see him. See what happened is

  771. she

  772. chose to confess with an ally. I catch

  773. the sin. I call out the lie. I counter

  774. it with truth. And then I confess with

  775. an ally. James 5 16 says it this way. It

  776. says, "Confess your sins to each other

  777. and pray for each other so that you may

  778. be healed." This is not just a physical

  779. healing. This is a soul healing. I'm

  780. talking about this same deep wound that

  781. I've operated from, the same trigger

  782. that I've had. If I want to see healing,

  783. I promise you, a stronghold, if it's a

  784. stronghold that you're fighting in your

  785. life, it's probably bigger than you.

  786. We're going to talk about what that

  787. looks like. But today, what I want us to

  788. do is we stand. If we can stand up in

  789. here today, want what I want us to do is

  790. is I want us to recognize

  791. that when I can come last week, we

  792. talked about coming weak, coming naked

  793. before the father, going in this place

  794. where it's like, ah, it's uncomfortable,

  795. it's hard, but I'm going to recognize I

  796. need your help deep, deeply,

  797. desperately, God. Now, we do that before

  798. an ally.

  799. Now, I may not, not everybody around me

  800. may be a good ally, right? Someone who

  801. can point me to the word, can point me

  802. to truth. Someone who can actually help

  803. to to to not just say, "Oh, you're okay.

  804. Pat on the back." That's all right.

  805. Right. We're taught to give truth in

  806. love. This is how I see it. It is it's

  807. it's loving the sinner and hating the

  808. sin. Hating the sin. And so this is uh

  809. this is three essentials super quick. If

  810. you want to see a successful

  811. accountability relationship, I'm going

  812. to bounce through this quick. This is

  813. how you confess. You first need to

  814. confess the right way. Okay? Don't

  815. confess with honesty. Confess with

  816. transparency.

  817. Okay? When I confess multiple times, I

  818. had a seven-year addiction to

  819. pornography from seventh grade into my

  820. sophomore year of college. And I am in

  821. and multiple times I would say, "Hey, I

  822. got a problem and I I need to I need to

  823. overcome this thing." Okay, good. until

  824. finally after a while, there's a couple

  825. different things that happened. We're

  826. going to talk about this over this

  827. series, but this has probably been one

  828. of the the the the biggest phoenixes

  829. outside of like surface area sins. I got

  830. a million triggers that I'm still

  831. walking through, guys. But the the the

  832. surface area things and one of the real

  833. the things I had to do is I had to go

  834. and I had to find an ally. I had to find

  835. some people around me and I had to say,

  836. "Actually, not only is this my problem,

  837. these are the ways I access pornography.

  838. These are the ways that I these are the

  839. times that are hardest for me to fight

  840. it.

  841. In fact, I got I got accountability

  842. partner and then I had a roommate in

  843. college. He and I close enough. We got

  844. along. We were cordial, right? It was

  845. fine. We weren't super tight. He I

  846. didn't have that level of trust with him

  847. for him to be like, "Drew, you need to

  848. fix this right now." So instead, what I

  849. did is I said, Colby,

  850. I need you to tell Joey, if you ever see

  851. me on my computer, I got to study late

  852. at night sometimes, right? If you ever

  853. see me on my computer late at night and

  854. you cannot directly see my screen, I'm

  855. going to work like this. So whenever you

  856. are a whenever like my screen is out

  857. there, I'm not hiding what I'm looking

  858. at. I you can see me. I'm going to break

  859. down all of these barriers and I'm going

  860. to break down all the power. I'm going

  861. to break I'm not going to choose

  862. honesty. I'm going to choose

  863. transparency.

  864. I'm going to fast not just the not the

  865. the bad things, but I'm going to fast

  866. the things that lead into it. Well, when

  867. I find myself scrolling, when I find

  868. myself searching this stuff, it's not

  869. that stuff's not bad. None of it's bad,

  870. but it leads me into that. I'm going to

  871. start giving real transparency in this.

  872. You can see all of it. You can call me

  873. out. treat these boundaries as my own

  874. sin so that you make the assumption that

  875. I'm failing because if I break those

  876. boundaries then I'm getting a little bit

  877. too close and I'm flirting with it.

  878. Okay, so I here's that's how I confess.

  879. Next, I need to how do how do I receive

  880. someone's confession? When someone tells

  881. you that, what the heck do I do with it?

  882. Right? Truth in love. If you've ever

  883. seen a video, I've never had to go

  884. through this. I've never had to do it.

  885. I'm so glad. If you've ever seen someone

  886. who had a joint pop out of socket,

  887. nasty.

  888. How do you fix it? You pop it right back

  889. in. It's painful. It's hard. It hurts

  890. worse the initi than the initial injury.

  891. It hurts way worse than it feels right

  892. now at that time with your limp arm. But

  893. they got to pop this thing out. I love

  894. you so much. I will hurt you for good.

  895. And this is where I say I love I believe

  896. in you. I refuse to let you stay there.

  897. >> That's love. That is love. Not, hey,

  898. you're all right. You'll be okay. You

  899. just do it right. No, no, no, no. You

  900. got to stop that now because God's got a

  901. higher calling for you than that. Do not

  902. let that limit you. Okay? So, I how to

  903. receive someone's confession. Uh James

    James 5:19–20

  904. 5:19-20

  905. says, "If anyone among you wanders away

  906. from the truth and is brought back, you

  907. can be sure whoever the person that I'm

  908. confessing with, the ally, whoever

  909. brings the sinner back from wandering

  910. will save that person from death and

  911. bring about the forgiveness of many

  912. sins." Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Man, what

  913. a blessing to be able to be in that

  914. place. Number three, essentials for

  915. accountability. How to confess, how to

  916. receive someone's confession, how to

  917. receive accountability. Then when they

  918. tell you, "I got to pop this joint back

  919. in socket."

  920. you rejoice. Faithful are the wounds of

  921. a friend.

  922. The kisses of an enemy are actually a

  923. curse. Oh, you'll be you're fine. You're

  924. okay. Deal with that. Everybody's got

  925. problems. Everybody's got weakness.

  926. That's all right. No, I believe more for

  927. you than that. You got to stop that. And

  928. the next time you slip up, the next time

  929. you mess up, the next time you're

  930. triggered, the next time you sin or

  931. whatever it is, right? Then then they

  932. come over and they, "Hey, hey, I WANT TO

  933. CALL YOU BACK. I want to I want to have

  934. you look at this truth again. Remember

  935. who you are." And that's NOT GOING TO

  936. FEEL GOOD, RIGHT? You're saying, "I

  937. failed again." Well, yeah, but he's your

  938. victor, right? Not you. You're not a

  939. failure. Let's switch that like. Okay.

  940. So, that's how we do it. So, what I want

  941. to do here, what I want to do is I want

  942. a very, very practical, very humble,

  943. very vulnerable altar moment.

  944. So, what I'm going to ask is I'm going

  945. to ask for actual action and movement

  946. right here. Well, we don't have to do we

  947. don't have to step in and find someone

  948. in this room that you can confess it all

  949. to and be full and transparent with.

  950. They may not even be in this room. Find

  951. someone who will point you to truth, who

  952. knows the word of God, who can guide you

  953. in that. But this is what I want us to

  954. do before you leave this room. If you

  955. got a stronghold you're dealing with,

  956. you have talked to that person and said,

  957. "I need to have a conversation with you

  958. about a stronghold that I need your help

  959. with." Before they may be in this room

  960. and you got to walk over to them and you

  961. got to say, "Can we meet this week? Can

  962. we have lunch after this?" And I can be

  963. deeply transparent with you about the

  964. things going on in my life. I promise

  965. you,

  966. this will be so hard. This will be so

  967. painful.

  968. It'll be no. It's not fun to go. Here's

  969. the layers of the depth of the sin that

  970. I'm dealing with. And I'm going to give

  971. all of it. It's probably going to be

  972. tearfilled. It's probably going to be

  973. infuriating. It's pro I may need some

  974. private areas. I may not be able to be

  975. at lunch. I may need to be able to do

  976. this somewhere else where I can shout

  977. and talk about I hate this.

  978. I may I may have to I may have to it may

  979. be a painful process, but I promise you,

  980. you never get to the surgery without the

  981. incision. This is the way that I get to

  982. the healing. This is the way that I'm

  983. going to find it. Please, every step of

  984. fighting the stronghold of the enemy

  985. flows through the door of confession.

  986. Confess to the Lord, confess to someone

  987. else, a believer that will lead you in

  988. that way. So, what I want to do is I

  989. want to take some time right now. I'm

  990. going to pray. As I pray for you, as I

  991. pray for strength, you respond. If you

  992. need to respond, if you need to come up

  993. to the altar, do that. If you need to

  994. text a friend, do that. If you need if

  995. they're in this room right now, you need

  996. to find them, do it right now. Okay. The

  997. rest of us, we're going to close our

  998. eyes. We're going to agree in prayer.

  999. We're going to fight these strongholds.

1000. Amen. Heavenly Father, right now, as we

1001. are responding, whoever we need to text,

1002. Lord, would you give boldness? Would you

1003. give clarity if we don't know who to

1004. contact? We don't know who, Lord, I pray

1005. that you would put the right person in

1006. mind that can help point us in the right

1007. direction that can just give us the

1008. first step. Lord, I hate the sin that

1009. continues to hold back the believers in

1010. this room from living in the abundant

1011. full life that you have PROMISED US. SO

1012. LORD, WE BREAK DOWN these strongholds.

1013. We break these down. WE BREAK DOWN THE

1014. POWER THAT IT HAS. GOD, IF I DON'T EVEN

1015. KNOW the lie that I'm facing, Lord, I

1016. pray that the allies in this room, the

1017. allies that we can come with can help us

1018. to identify the problems and the sins

1019. and the lies that are holding these

1020. things up. Father God, in the mighty

1021. name of Jesus, I pray seeds are planted

1022. right now that begin to shift the

1023. trajectory of people's lives. May we not

1024. be so proud as to not admit, as to not

1025. confess, as not to come broken, as to

1026. appear like we got it together, as much

1027. as we want to look like it, but actually

1028. come to a few, to one who can take the

1029. full ugly and can say, "I love you and I

1030. refuse to let you stay there." Lord, I

1031. pray over the allies in this room that

1032. are going to be contacted, that are

1033. going to be touched, that are going to

1034. say, "Hey, I need to talk with you."

1035. Would you begin to prepare a heart of

1036. deep love? Deep love for you and deep

1037. love for your heart and your vision for

1038. who they are, Father God. And then I

1039. pray, Lord, as correction comes,

1040. as difficult things happen, you need to

1041. cut this out. You need to get that app

1042. off your phone. You need to put a screen

1043. time and give me the password, whatever

1044. it may be. Father God, that I pray that

  1045. there would be a a a a receiving because

1046. of the hatred of my sin, because of my

1047. refusal to stay where I've been, Lord,

1048. that there would be a a deep willingness

1049. and a humility to receive all

  1050. correction. Father God,

  1051. Holy Spirit,

1052. it's no longer about this sermon.

1053. It's now about the conversations that

1054. are going to follow. Holy Spirit, we

1055. invite you into every single one of

1056. those. We ask that not only would you

1057. lead the confessor, you would lead the

1058. ally, you would lead the relationship,

1059. you would lead in the conversations, you

1060. would speak divinely in these moments.

1061. In the mighty name of Jesus, we declare

1062. you will be seen as final, as the victor

1063. in these situations. In the mighty name

1064. of Jesus, we pray. Amen. Amen. Come on,

1065. can we give a hand for the word of the

  1066. Lord?

1067. Hey, thanks so much for watching today's

1068. message. Our prayer is more than the

1073. spoke to you, I know that part of your
