Now, before we get into the message, we want to remind you of one thing.
-
At Plum Creek Church, we are all about change lives, changing lives.
-
We really believe that if Jesus is right about God, about life, about the soul, then it only makes sense to rearrange our lives around what he says is true.
-
Because when you choose to follow Jesus like that, it really does change everything, including the lives around you.
-
Okay, let's posture our hearts for what God has in store.
-
This message.
-
What's happening, Plum Creek online?
-
What's happening, Plum Creek, in person?
-
I'm not telling a story today like I normally do.
-
We're gonna jump into John chapter 21.
John 21 chapter mention
-
So turn in your phones to John chapter 21.
John 21 chapter mention
-
Father.
-
This is my third time.
-
That means nothing.
-
You authored.
-
You authored the book from which I'm about to preach.
-
I don't want to get in front of you.
-
I don't want to be magnified more than you.
-
It makes sense for me to lean into you and for us to lean into you.
-
So would you be glorified?
-
May I not take this for granted.
-
We want to hear from you, including the preacher.
-
So, Holy Spirit, please do what I can't do.
-
Jesus, would you increase?
-
May I decrease.
-
In the name of Jesus, I pray.
-
Amen.
-
John chapter 21, you know the drill.
John 21 chapter mention
-
You've heard me before.
-
The more you amen, the shorter the sermon.
-
John chapter 21, verse 1 reads this way.
-
After these things, Jesus manifested himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias.
-
And he manifested himself in this way.
-
I feel compelled to say this every service.
-
We see manifested twice.
-
You hear a lot about people manifesting today.
-
We're not talking about the same thing.
-
If you're into that, I love you.
-
I'm a guest preacher.
-
Stop.
-
No real talk.
-
We're not, we don't manifest stuff.
-
We don't speak things into existence.
-
We're not into witchcraft.
-
So let's be clear.
-
I know what the culture says, the culture is wrong.
-
Don't leave here without getting equipped.
-
That may be for somebody today.
-
We don't manifest.
-
There's one creator, and he ain't you, and you ain't he.
-
Let's go home.
-
Simon Peter and Thomas called Didymus and Nathaniel of Canaan Galilee and the sons of Zebedee and two others of his disciples were together.
-
Simon Peter said to them, I'm going fishing.
-
They said to him, We will also come with you.
-
They went out and got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing.
-
But when the day was now breaking, Jesus stood on the beach.
-
Yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.
-
So Jesus said to them, Children, you do not have any fish, do you?
-
They answered him, No.
-
And he said to them, Cast the net on the right hand side of the boat, and you will find the catch.
-
So they cast, and then they were not able to haul it in because of the great number of fish.
-
Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, It's the Lord.
-
So when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put out it, he he he put out his outer garment on, for he was stripped for work and threw himself into the sea.
-
But the other disciples came in the little boat, for they were not far from the land, but about 100 yards away, dragging the net full of fish.
-
So when they got out on the land, they saw a charcoal fire already laid, and fish placed on it, and bread.
-
Jesus said to them, Bring some of the fish which you have now caught.
-
Simon Peter went up and drew the net to land, full of large fish, a hundred and fifty-three.
-
And although there were so many, the net was not torn.
-
Jesus said to them, Come and have breakfast.
-
None of the disciples ventured to question him, Who are you?
-
knowing that it was the Lord.
-
Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and the fish likewise.
-
This is now the third time that Jesus was manifested to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.
-
Scholars commentate on this passage typically from two different camps.
-
Camp number one says Peter, and you may hear me call him Pete Rock.
-
That's what I call him when I read.
-
Scholars, some of them in camp number one say that Peter and his crew, the disciples, were living in disobedience.
-
They were living in disobedience.
-
Camp number two says, no, they weren't living in disobedience.
-
They were living in disorientation.
-
Camp number one says, you know what?
-
They're supposed to be making disciples, although we hadn't really got to that part yet.
-
They're supposed to be preaching, they're supposed to be doing ministry, and here they are fishing.
-
Camp number two says, yo, yo, yo, they only fishing because the one that always gave them food ain't with them.
-
They gotta eat.
-
They're fishing because they're hungry.
-
Camp number three says, yes, supposed to meet Jesus on the mountain.
-
Camp number two says, you know what?
-
Jesus never really specifically said in the text the mountain, he just says, Meet me in Galilee.
-
They are in the region of Galilee.
-
So are they being disobedient or disoriented?
-
I am the guest preacher today.
-
Guess what I'm here to tell you?
-
I don't know.
-
I don't know.
-
I have no clue.
-
Here's what I do know.
-
They are in what I call an in-between season.
-
Anyone ever been there?
-
In between?
-
And we can we can we can have on our church face all we want.
-
In between ain't a fun place to be.
-
This is my third time preaching, and I tell the guys back there, when I'm back there, I have knots in my stomach because I'm in between.
-
I just want to be out here.
-
I just want to be out here.
-
They are in between.
-
Did you read chapter 20?
-
Have you ever read it?
-
Jesus is resurrected.
-
He's showing them his hands.
-
You can say, woo, you can clap.
-
He's showing them his hands.
-
He shows them his side.
-
He has kicked death's butt.
-
He's the risen king.
-
He's resurrected.
-
They get it, but but but but they're awaiting Pentecost.
-
Have you followed the disciples?
-
They don't know what Pentecost is.
-
They don't really know what nothing is.
-
They're in between resurrection and Pentecost.
-
In between.
-
They're in between conspicuous Christological manifestation and pneumatological season.
-
Christ and Holy Spirit.
-
And the problem is they're supposed to be moving to his rhythm.
-
They're supposed to be arranging their lives according to what he wants them to do, but it's in between.
-
So how does that look?
-
Jesus, what are we supposed to do?
-
Where are the answers, Jesus?
-
What's next?
-
We know it's the way that we're supposed to go, but here's the problem.
-
I don't hear the beat.
-
I don't hear the beat.
-
Anybody ever been there?
-
I don't hear the beat.
-
I know what the preacher says, I know what the word says.
-
But when Monday comes, I don't hear the beat.
-
I pray, I lift hands, I cry, but I don't hear the beat.
-
I got good news for you.
-
The drum major is still alive.
-
When he allows you to go through a season where you don't hear the beat, it ain't because he's dead, it's because he wants to grow you.
-
Can I give you a second title?
-
Yeah, yeah, Keith, you can.
-
I don't hear the beat.
-
Therefore, I need the risen Christ.
-
I know I'm talking to somebody.
-
That's really the sermon.
-
You, you, you, you, me, we need the risen Christ.
-
We don't need the man upstairs.
-
We don't need some pronoun.
-
We need Jesus that's God.
-
We need him for scene number one.
-
Scene number one is transition.
-
No things.
-
No things.
-
Peter was like, yo, I'm going fishing.
-
His crew was like, yo, we with you.
-
Now, is that disobedience or disorientation?
-
I already told y'all.
-
I don't know.
-
I don't know.
-
I do know that during this transition, my boy Pete Rock does what signifies comfort.
-
He goes fishing with friends.
-
Peter knew how to fish.
-
He had worked as a fisherman.
-
Guess where?
-
On the same sea.
-
He knew this sea.
-
Fishing, he knew.
-
These friends he knew.
-
In verse 2, Thomas, Peter knew him.
-
Nathaniel, Peter knew him.
-
Nimzebedee boys, Peter knew them.
-
As a matter of fact, they had had a fishing business together.
-
He knew fishing and he knew friends.
-
And in this in-between season, that's what he chooses.
-
He says, I'm going fishing.
-
Not I'm going preaching.
-
Not I'm going evangelizing.
-
Not I'm going somewhere to pray.
-
Nah, I'm gonna go do something during this transition, which I find comfort doing.
-
Write this down.
-
Transitions often breed a comfortability that yields futility.
-
Let me say it this way.
-
I'm talking to believers.
-
We cannot stay in the comfort zone.
-
We can't stay there.
-
I know for a fact, because there's enough people in here, God's calling some people.
-
He's already told you what he wants you to do, but you're just scared.
-
What a great place to be.
-
That night, according to verse three, they caught nothing.
-
They're in their comfort zone.
-
At least they're in their comfort zone, yeah, but but they catch nothing.
-
But they're with their friends, though, yeah, but they catch nothing.
-
They're doing what they know how to do, but it's all in vain.
-
Anyone watching online or listening in the room today?
-
You're comfortable, but you're empty.
-
You remember when you grew up dreaming of the type of house that you would live in?
-
You actually have it.
-
The house is full, but you're empty.
-
Anybody got friends rocking with you, but your friends can't feed you?
-
These friends cannot feed Peter.
-
So I talked to Peter all week, Pete Rock.
-
During this transition, you got nothing.
-
You want to know why?
-
Because you need the risen Christ to do something as simple as catching fish.
-
Let me say it this way.
-
I don't care what you endeavor to do, you need the risen Christ.
-
I'm talking to y'all now.
-
I'm talking to myself.
-
Whatever it is you want to do, whoever it is you want to be, you need a Jesus that got up.
-
I don't hear the beat.
-
It's because you need the risen Christ for scene two.
-
Instruction.
-
The little things.
-
The little things.
-
Is Doug in here?
-
Doug's not in here.
-
I can say what I want.
-
I went to college with Doug and Beth.
-
Uh, I got them through school.
-
We went to a Christian college.
-
We were not supposed to dance.
-
We were not supposed to go to certain clubs or anything.
-
That was the rule.
-
How many of you know you cannot tell 17 to 21 year olds not to do something?
-
Some way, somehow, people still danced, and I always tended to find myself in those environments.
-
I had a friend who could not dance.
-
She couldn't dance at all, but she thought she could.
-
And it's literally like, and I'm not exaggerating, like she was convulsing, having a spasm.
-
Here's the problem.
-
We would encourage her.
-
And then we get back to our dorm room and we would just laugh.
-
I almost said her name.
-
I don't want to say her name.
-
We would just laugh behind her back.
-
She needed someone to show up with Savoir fare.
-
Somebody whose Savoir fare belies their intentions.
-
Somebody that would show up and instruct her.
-
Just with this.
-
I'm being very serious.
-
You don't need to go any further than this.
-
Just the little things.
-
Just the little things.
-
If you really want to get fancy, you can do your hair like this.
-
I'm talking to some of you now.
-
If you don't know how to dance, just never get outside of this.
-
Just stay right here.
-
Just stay right here.
-
That's what she needed.
-
Somebody to just give her some one, two steps.
-
Just one, two steps.
-
That's what Jesus represents in the text.
-
He's the instruction giver.
-
That makes me happy just saying that.
-
If you're lost, he got the map.
-
He altered the map.
-
He breathed it.
-
What is it that's befuddling you?
-
He knows the answer.
-
He is the answer.
-
He shows up and he gives them instructions.
-
Look at the text.
-
He says to them, cast the net on the right hand side of the boat, and not you might, you will.
-
Find the catch.
-
They adhered to his instructions and they caught so many fish, y'all, they couldn't haul it in.
-
All he did was have them change one little thing.
-
D'all hear that?
-
One little he didn't have them write a treatise.
-
Just one little thing.
-
He didn't have them speak in tongues.
-
They didn't have to fast for days.
-
Just do the little thing that I'm telling you to do.
-
And I'm talking to somebody in the room today.
-
You know what he's telling you to do?
-
Just do the little thing.
-
Just love your spouse.
-
Just love your kids.
-
Just do the little thing that he's telling you to do.
-
Write it down.
-
Prosperity is often found in doing the little things his way.
-
I don't care what the TV preacher tells you.
-
You don't prosper by sending him$19.99 to get a prayer cloth.
-
You don't.
-
Save your money.
-
You prosper by getting up every day, seeing what he has to say, and do it.
-
Obey it.
-
I know that we don't like to take orders, but it behooves you.
-
It's wise to take orders from the King of Kings.
-
Anybody though?
-
You gotta admit you're doing things your way.
-
You don't have to raise your hand.
-
You're doing things your way, especially the little things.
-
Or things that you consider small.
-
You know, you get up in the morning and rather than sitting in his word, you scroll.
-
You scroll, man, looking at a bunch of lies.
-
You're doing it his way.
-
I'm not here to beat you up.
-
He does not want you to choose scrolling over scripture.
-
Oh, amen myself.
-
Amen.
-
He doesn't.
-
He does not want you getting up in the morning and not telling him, thank you.
-
He doesn't want you watching Al Roker first.
-
Al Roker tells you the new, he tells you the weather.
-
Jesus creates it.
-
So who you gonna rock with?
-
I'm rocking with Jesus.
-
Jesus, if this wasn't Jesus in the text, I would say he's being petty, but I'm scared to say that about Jesus.
-
Because Jesus says to them in verse 5, children, you do not have any fish, do you?
-
He knows they don't.
-
What's my point?
-
Sometimes Jesus will allow us to rely on ourselves so that we can see that we cannot make it prosperously without him.
-
Sometimes Jesus will, he just wants us to see that we need his instructions even for the little things.
-
Stop getting your instructions from AI or Google first.
-
Go to him.
-
Stop getting your instructions from your friend who's more jacked up than you.
-
Go to him.
-
Let him instruct you even in the minuscule things.
-
I know it's mundane, but you still need Jesus.
-
I know it's not a big deal.
-
I know you consider it ordinary, but you still need Jesus.
-
I know it's humdrum, but you can't make it without Jesus.
-
How are you gonna try to raise kids without Jesus?
-
Homework assignment.
-
Pray, Lord, what do you want to teach me?
-
I'm committed to learning it and living it.
-
What do you want me to do or not do?
-
Okay.
-
Matter of fact, that's that that's an important word.
-
Learn just to tell him.
-
Okay.
-
Okay, okay.
-
I look at prayer differently.
-
Now I used to look at prayer as me getting up in the morning, going to bed at night, and telling him, telling him, telling him, telling him.
-
Now, prayer for me is a lot of, okay, I was wrong.
-
Okay, okay.
-
What do you want?
-
I'm old enough now.
-
No, I can mess up anything.
-
No, I'm serious.
-
I'm very serious.
-
I know I'm the preacher.
-
I know I'm the guest.
-
I know I've been coming here for 20 years, but when Keith Norman does things his way, I always screw it up.
-
So I'm learning to say, okay, okay.
-
Can I be honest?
-
Yes, Keith, you can.
-
I'm preaching in a church now, people, primarily your skin doesn't look like mine.
-
Growing up, I would not have desired to be here, frankly.
-
But I learned to say, okay, because he loves you as much as he loves me.
-
Okay.
-
So if you want me to preach to white folks, Latin folks, I don't care.
-
I'll say, okay.
-
If you want me to love my wife, even though I know she's wrong this time, sometimes my wife is wrong.
-
She ain't here, I can say it.
-
Okay.
-
Okay.
-
I'm very serious.
-
Just learn to tell him okay.
-
And I promise you, you'll be the better for it, even in the little things.
-
I don't hear the bead.
-
That's because you need the risen Christ.
-
Scene three, you need him for a provision.
-
Regular things.
-
Regular things.
-
I love the scriptures because it tells me there's a charcoal fire already laid, and fish placed on it, and bread.
-
Go there with me.
-
Don't you notice with some good fish and bread?
-
Jesus is cooking.
-
You think he burned it?
-
I don't think he burned it.
-
Don't you know how good this had to smell?
-
But what really blessed me, they've been fishing all night, caught nothing.
-
It's already prepared.
-
That tells me he's not surprised.
-
He's prepared.
-
Write it down.
-
That for which we laboriously expend ourselves, Jesus already has.
-
He has everything you need, and he can do it quickly.
-
Some of you are chasing some dude or some girl because you think they're cute, and you're making a fool out of yourself when he already has the perfect mate for you.
-
Jesus was like in verse 10, he's like, Bring some of the fish you have now caught, which makes me laugh.
-
What a humble resurrected king.
-
They ain't catch nothing.
-
They fished all night and caught nothing.
-
But he's that humble.
-
We do nothing without him.
-
It's in him that we live, we move, we breathe, and have our bearing.
-
But he said, bring the fish y'all cult because he's transcendent yet imminent.
-
Bring the fish, y'all call.
-
Jesus said to them, My favorite verse, come and have breakfast.
-
Come and have breakfast.
-
I wrote this sermon.
-
I came to y'all's 20-year anniversary, and then I was at a hotel in Denver.
-
That's where I wrote this sermon.
-
I sat in the dining area of that hotel.
-
When I read that verse, I started crying.
-
Two ladies were near me, couldn't stop the tears.
-
I'm crying.
-
The one word from Jesus, come, made me cry.
-
Because what he's doing is he's giving them an invitation.
-
By the way, these dudes, when it got tough for him, they bounced on him, they left him.
-
But here he is now.
-
He's risen from the dead.
-
He said, Come, come have breakfast.
-
That's the kind of God we serve.
-
You can jack it up, and he still wants you to come.
-
You know how much sin is in this room today, and he still loves all of us.
-
You know how much this preacher has sinned in almost 57 years, and he still lets me preach.
-
And not only that, he empowers me to preach.
-
He fills me with his Holy Ghost.
-
Come.
-
Come.
-
Can't help any time I read that verse, think about my own life, my own testimony.
-
Nobody was crazier than me.
-
July 1987, I moved from my parents' house, my Christian parents, good parents.
-
How many of you know when you're a teenager, you don't want good parents?
-
You want to do what you want to do.
-
And my mama, I'm scared of her today, and she's dead.
-
I'm still scared.
-
Because she didn't play that.
-
Y'all don't even know what a belt is.
-
Anyway, let me get back on subject.
-
I don't want to get in trouble.
-
But I moved, I loved my parents, but I said, I'm moving from Elberton, Georgia to Chicago.
-
I'm gonna get away from my Christian parents, but even more importantly, Chicago, big city.
-
Girls, girls, girls, girls, girls all over the place.
-
Put your number on this paper because I would love to date you anyway.
-
I said, it's gonna be a lot of girls there, and I'm single and I'm ready to mingle.
-
So I'm going to Chicago.
-
I go to Chicago and I'm keeping it G-rated.
-
Truthfully, I wanted to live in sin.
-
I don't know any other way to put it.
-
And don't look at me like I'm crazy.
-
I wanted to live in sin.
-
I go to Chicago.
-
I was a church boy.
-
I had no problem going to church and checking that off of my list.
-
I moved in with my brother, his wife, and they had an infant son.
-
I was supposed to be in an in-between season from summer to the fall semester.
-
So I slept in the nursery with my nephew on an air mattress.
-
Go to church that Sunday, my first Sunday in Chicago, and the preacher preaches, and I clearly hear the gospel.
-
Probably had heard it before, but it got me this time.
-
Not so much that I'm going down to the altar.
-
I'm 17.
-
I'm too cool to go to an altar.
-
Couple of days go by.
-
I'm sleeping on that air mattress.
-
It's about one in the morning, and I'm awake, and you can't tell me the Holy Spirit ain't real.
-
I know He woke me up.
-
I'm lying on that air mattress.
-
And I'm like, yo, if I die, I'm going to hell.
-
Based on the sermon I heard.
-
By the way, a lot of preachers don't preach on hell.
-
This one does.
-
Because I don't want you to go.
-
And if scaring you saves you, let me scare you.
-
Real talk.
-
I'll do whatever.
-
If you want me to stand on my head to get you to say yes to Jesus, I'll find the way.
-
I'm lying on that air mattress.
-
I'm like, Lord, I'm going to hell if I die.
-
No pastor was there.
-
No worship team, no band, no ushers.
-
I got off that air mattress.
-
I didn't even stand up.
-
And I crawled to this orange chair in that nursery.
-
Didn't pray a long prayer.
-
I didn't know the four spiritual laws.
-
I didn't know the Romans road.
-
I didn't know whoever confesses with their mouth and believe in your heart.
-
I know none of that.
-
But you know what I did?
-
I said, Lord, I don't want to go to hell.
-
If you are who the preacher said you are Sunday, will you save me from hell?
-
Not a fancy prayer.
-
And immediately I felt something literally like fire going from my head to my feet.
-
And I messed up.
-
I said something.
-
Now I know it was someone.
-
Fire.
-
I'm literally hot.
-
And I'm 17.
-
I want to be cool.
-
And I began to lift my hands.
-
Nobody told me.
-
Nobody told me to lift my hands.
-
And I cried.
-
I literally cried for about an hour, literal snot coming out of my nose.
-
And I'm serious.
-
That kind of cry, unabashed, unashamed.
-
I'm crying.
-
And here's what I know: that was the Holy Ghost coming inside of me.
-
He changed me.
-
The reason the verse hits me, because I know if you come, life changes.
-
If you come to him, I know I got other witnesses in the room.
-
I came to him as I was, weary, won't, and sad, founding him in a resting place.
-
Now I'm up here preaching.
-
That makes no sense to me.
-
All I did was come.
-
And so what I'm inviting you to do is come.
-
Come.
-
You don't hear the beat?
-
Come.
-
You don't know how to raise your kids?
-
Come.
-
You make a lot of money.
-
You're happy.
-
You still need to come.
-
In your life, you can clap.
-
Homework assignment.
-
I'm a minute over.
-
Jesus wants to provide, but do you want to come?
-
The reality is when I came, there's certain things I have to say bye to.
-
You got to give the deuces to.
-
You can't live a certain way.
-
Your life is, my life ain't mine now.
-
Is that what you want?
-
None of the disciples ventured to question him, Who are you?
-
Knowing that it was the Lord.
-
Have you ever been so provided for that you know, this ain't nobody but the Lord?
-
Peter had to be strong.
-
The scripture says Peter pulled the net full of large fish.
-
It's 153 fish.
-
Do you know how heavy that net was?
-
Peter is clearly strong, but this catch ain't about Peter.
-
This ain't nobody but the Lord.
-
Some things in my life, I'm incredulous about how did I get this?
-
And then I conclude, this ain't nobody but the Lord.
-
I moved to Chicago to be a womanizer.
-
I met one woman and I'm married to her.
-
I'm married to her.
-
Oh, no, hold on.
-
It gets better than that.
-
She fine.
-
She looks good.
-
That ain't nobody but the Lord.
-
When I left here two weeks ago after your 20th anniversary, the lift pulled in the driveway that took me from the airport.
-
My son comes out, gets my luggage, takes it in the house.
-
I didn't ask him.
-
To have a son that loves me, that ain't nobody but the Lord.
-
I don't know what I'm doing as a parent.
-
I called my daughter yesterday, called her.
-
She lives in Cleveland.
-
She said, why do you call me during the Georgia game?
-
To have a daughter that loves football, that ain't nobody but the Lord.
-
You gotta look over your life.
-
I dare some of you to look over your life and say, the house I live in, that ain't nobody but the Lord.
-
The cars I drive, that ain't nobody but the Lord.
-
The fact that I lived wild and crazy, I didn't get an STD.
-
I used to drink and drive, but he didn't let me hit somebody.
-
It ain't no matter of fact, every blessing you got, it ain't nobody but the Lord.
-
My Bible says all good gifts come from above, from the Father of lights with whom there's no shifting, a shadow of turning.
-
Verse 13.
-
Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and the fish likewise.
-
One more time.
-
She needed someone to guide her in the way to dance, but guide her, check this out, by giving her some regular moves.
-
I my one of my favorite videos is Bobby Brown, every little step I take.
-
And Bobby Brown, every little step I'll take.
-
She don't need that.
-
She don't need Michael Jackson, beat it.
-
She don't need none of that.
-
She needs somebody to just show up and give her just the regular stuff.
-
Just regular.
-
Maybe, maybe, maybe allow her to snap, you know what I mean?
-
Just just some regular stuff.
-
Bread and fish.
-
That's as regular as you can get.
-
Even in biblical antiquity, poor people, they could afford bread.
-
Poor people could afford fish.
-
He didn't give them wagu steak, wagyu steak, bread and fish, no lobster tails, bread and fish, no caviar.
-
Bread and fish.
-
The problem is this.
-
We live in a church milieu whose theology of blessing is antithetical to this.
-
We want big.
-
We want grandiose.
-
We want sublime and resplendent.
-
And the problem is it's hurting our faith and it's breeding immaturity and it stops us from praising him for the regular stuff.
-
Y'all know he provided a roof over your head last night?
-
Regular stuff.
-
Do you know that you slept on a certain perfect sleeper last night?
-
You could adjust yourself while your wife slept one way, you slept another.
-
Regular stuff, but stuff that we need.
-
You got up this morning.
-
There's a family, there are families across the globe.
-
They're crying now.
-
You know why?
-
Because one of their loved ones didn't wake up this morning.
-
My loved ones got up.
-
I got up.
-
Regular stuff.
-
How dare I not get up and say thank you?
-
For the Tony the Tiger Frosted Flakes, thank you.
-
For the Minute Made orange juice, thank you.
-
For the toast, for the scrambled eggs, thank you.
-
Hey, you might not have that BMW X6, black on black, black rims, black tinted windows, red break pads.
-
My birthday is Wednesday, September 23rd.
-
You might not have that.
-
You might not have that.
-
You have a used Ford.
-
Every time you get in it, you have to pray, Lord, let it crank, Lord.
-
But guess what?
-
That Ford gets you from point A to point B.
-
Thank him.
-
Thank him, thank him.
-
But Keith, my car is used.
-
You used too.
-
Disobedience?
-
Disorientation.
-
Already told y'all.
-
I don't know.
-
Guess what?
-
We still okay.
-
Because that ain't the point of the text.
-
I wanted to preach on Peter when I first started writing this.
-
The message ain't about Peter.
-
The Bible ain't about Peter.
-
The Gospel of John ain't about Peter.
-
You know what the point of the text is?
-
The point of the text is Jesus is risen.
-
And it gets gooder than that.
-
Not only is he risen, he's risen and he's revealing himself.
-
He's risen and he still wants relationships.
-
He's risen and he's still showing up to mirror man.
-
Can anybody testify?
-
The one that got up keeps showing up in my life.
-
He keeps showing up.
-
He keeps showing up.
-
Even when I don't pursue him, he keeps being everywhere that I go.
-
Verse 14.
-
This is now the third time that Jesus was manifested to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.
-
Does that sound familiar to y'all?
-
Sounds like verse one to me.
-
After these things, Jesus manifested himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias, and he manifested himself in this way.
-
The Bible nerd in me has to tell you this.
-
That's called an inclusio.
-
Verse 1 and verse 14 saying the same thing, and in the middle, it's kind of wrapping that middle up.
-
What's the point?
-
John clearly wants us to go beyond the ostensible to being abundantly clear, obvious beyond the shadow of a doubt, that Jesus is risen.
-
That's the point of the text.
-
Not only is he risen, we need him to catch fish, to do life.
-
Our God is alive.
-
Maybe you don't know what to do with that.
-
Can I tell you what to do with it?
-
Give your life to him.
-
This ain't rocket science.
-
Give your life to him.
-
And I'm talking, I feel compelled to say this.
-
I'm talking to church folk too.
-
I grew up in church and I was religious.
-
That ain't the same thing.
-
I'm talking to those of us who think we're safe.
-
Examine yourself.
-
Have you really surrendered to the risen King?
-
If you want to do that after church, I'm gonna stand over here.
-
I'll pray with you.
-
I'll pray with you.
-
Thank you all for having me.
-
Let's pray.
-
Father, I thank you that you have risen.
-
Your son has risen.
-
I thank you that you're available to us.
-
You're transcendent, yet you're imminent.
-
You want relationship with us.
-
Would you help all under the sound of my voice to get that?
-
And would you help us all, even those of us who are saved, to take advantage of the fact that we get to have relationship with God?
-
Hallelujah.
-
Please be glorified as a result of your spoken word.
-
In Jesus' name.
-
Amen.
-
Thanks again for listening.
-
Our prayer is that this message encouraged and challenged you in your journey to follow Jesus.
