  1. death. Appreciated Charles' lesson last week to help us

  2. understand that there's plenty of others out there who we

  3. can look to and to help us in our faith.

  4. But tonight we're going kind of in a different direction.

  5. When I think of faithfulness,

  6. well, you define that. How would you define

  7. what it means to be faithful? Give me some answers.

  8. You know this, come on.

  9. What does it mean to be faithful? Okay, obedience.

  10. Okay, anybody else?

  11. Okay, walking in the light.

  12. Becoming more and more obviously like our Savior,

  13. who is obviously faithful.

  14. Tonight we're looking at a concept that

  15. I think is very important for us when we think of our faithfulness,

  16. and that deals with the faithfulness of God.

  17. He is the foundation of our faith.

  18. If you can imagine being without him in the world,

  19. not having him as your Father, not having Jesus as

  20. your Savior, what kind of faith

  21. would you have? There'd be nothing,

  22. wouldn't there? I mean, you can have faith knowing maybe your car is going to

  23. start in the morning and deal with all those superficial things in life,

  24. but when it comes down to what life really is The

  25. life God gives us. We need

  26. to have that faith.

  27. 1 Corinthians 1:4-9,

    1 Corinthians 1:4–9

  28. follow along with me if you would. Paul here

  29. is writing to the church at Corinth, and he says, I thank my God

  30. always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ

  31. Jesus. That you were enriched in everything by

  32. Him, and in all utterance and all knowledge,

  33. even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you,

  34. so that you— so that you come short in no

  35. gift, eagerly awaiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus

  36. Christ, who will also confirm you to the end,

  37. that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  38. And look at verse 9, God is

  39. faithful. God is faithful, by whom you

  40. were called into the fellowship of His Son,

  41. Jesus Christ our Lord.

  42. So when you think of where we're headed,

  43. I've kind of put this together as 5 different pillars,

  44. 5 different ways we can focus.

  45. On the faithfulness of God. And you can add to this list, and I hope

  46. that you do. I just kind of thought of, of what it might look

  47. like as far as God is concerned.

  48. You know, you can look at faithfulness as

  49. commitment, loyalty,

  50. perseverance, sacrifice,

  51. discipline. There's so many different words to describe

  52. the ability to follow with something to the end, and that's what we're looking

  53. at in this series— being faithful until

  54. death. When we're given new opportunities,

  55. we, we are so excited about that, aren't we?

  56. We were so excited. We have enthusiasm,

  57. new relationships. So many things can happen.

  58. But as we talked about even in our devotional, when life gets tough,

  59. when life is not going the way we want to,

  60. overwhelming obstacles come our way,

  61. the Bible speaks of God's faithfulness,

  62. and that's where we need to anchor.

  63. It's interesting to me that the Bible speaks

  64. of God's faithfulness well before it does ours.

  65. And I'm thankful for that. Our faithfulness

  66. is a response to the faithfulness God consistently

  67. shows towards His people. Psalm 31:23

    Psalms 31:23

  68. says, the Lord preserves the faithful. 1 John 1:9,

    1 John 1:9

  69. He's faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and

  70. to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Revelation 2:10,

    Revelation 2:10

  71. which is really the the anchor of what we're looking at,

  72. remaining faithful until death to receive the crown. Remember that

  73. verse because we're going to end with that. And in

  74. 19:11 of Revelation, it says that our,

  75. um, Jesus is called faithful and true.

  76. So there's going to be times in our life— we'll get to this in a

  77. moment— there are going to be times in our life when Our

  78. faith is going to be tested. There's no doubt about that.

  79. I don't know if you've ever asked this question,

  80. and I'm guilty of it: where is God?

  81. Where is he? There have been times,

  82. I suppose, in all of our life— lives that

  83. we've asked that question. Maybe you haven't. I wasn't raised in

  84. the church. Tomorrow I celebrate my 46th rebirthday

  85. of being in the Lord. I spent a lot of years

  86. outside of the Lord, and a lot of times I asked that question,

  87. if there's a God, where is he?

  88. A couple had 2 little boys.

  89. Ages 8 and 10, so you can imagine where this is going. They were

  90. very mischievous. There was nothing they

  91. could do without getting in trouble. If anything

  92. was ever stolen, the parents knew exactly what

  93. happened. Well, they heard of this preacher who

  94. had quite a successful way of dealing

  95. with children like this. And so they took the

  96. children to— well, they took one child and they were going to take

  97. the other one to the preacher to see what he could do.

  98. And he was a big guy, a huge man, and he had a very

  99. booming voice. So the 8-year-old comes in

  100. first and he sits him down and

  101. he asks him a question, where is God?

  102. Where is God? The boy didn't have any

  103. idea what to do. He just kind of sat there and his jaw hit

  104. the ground and his eyes were wide open, but he didn't respond to

  105. that. And so the preacher repeated the question with

  106. a sterner tone, where is God?

  107. Again, the boy made no attempt to answer. Well,

  108. the preacher one more time, you know, 3 times and you're out, right? He asked

  109. him one more time, even a louder voice,

  110. where is God?

  111. The boy bolted from the room, ran directly

  112. home, and flew into a closet. He slammed

  113. the door behind him. And when his older brother found him in the

  114. closet, he looked at him and said, what in the world is

  115. going on? Well, the younger brother

  116. just kind of looked at him gasping for breath, and he says,

  117. brother, we're in big trouble this time. God is missing,

  118. and we think he thinks we did it.

  119. Okay, enough of the stories, right?

  120. 5 pillars. If you could add to this list

  121. What would you add? We can see the ever-presence of God and ever-knowing

  122. of God and ever-powerful of God, his honesty,

  123. his absoluteness, which kind of goes along with

  124. honesty, truthfulness. What would you add to that list?

  125. Anything?

  126. Steadfastness. That's a good one. I wish I would have put that one down.

  127. But put— please do. Steadfastness. Any others?

  128. Loving. That's a good one.

  129. Love. Mercy.

  130. I'm waiting for another one. Faithful.

  131. Unchanging. Compassionate.

  132. He is a God of— begins with a G— grace.

  133. I love that one. Without that, we'd all be in trouble.

  134. A God of grace.

  135. Omnipresent, omnipotent,

  136. omni— excuse me, omniscient, omnipotent,

  137. omnipresent, honest, and absolute. And again, you can add

  138. to that. Let's look at the

  139. first one here. I hope I got this right now. Okay. The 5 pillars of

  140. God's faithfulness. Omniscient— he is ever-knowing. Hebrews 4:13

    Hebrews 4:13

  141. says nothing in all creation is hidden from

  142. God's sight. Kind of goes along with Hebrews, doesn't it?

  143. Nothing is hidden. So there's honesty here.

  144. There's no pretending to

  145. God or trying to hide from him. David tried

  146. it. He couldn't do it. He couldn't do it.

  147. There is decisions that are made when we think of his all-knowing.

  148. Does it reflect the kind of person you want to be rather

  149. than only what other people see?

  150. Think about that. Then there's comfort.

  151. When you're confused or worried, believe that God knows

  152. the whole situation, and that ought to give

  153. us reassurance.

  154. And then you come to his ever-powerful being

  155. that he is, omnipotent.

  156. Ephesians 3:20 says, to him who is able to do exceedingly

    Ephesians 3:20

  157. and abundantly more than I could ever dream or imagine.

  158. That has been my favorite verse for 40 years of my

  159. tenure of preaching. Even before that,

  160. I love that verse. It really says it all about God.

  161. He's able— just the first few words.

  162. I'm not, especially when it comes to remaining

  163. faithful until death without him. It's not going

  164. to happen. So, so we want to invite God

  165. into our ordinary decisions. We want to

  166. invite him into our relationships, into our struggles,

  167. difficult moments. He wants to hear about those

  168. things, not just the good times.

  169. Well, how do we deal with that? How about praying,

  170. asking God for wisdom? Strength, patience, and guidance,

  171. trusting Him in all difficulties instead of

  172. carrying your burdens. What's the Bible tell us to do?

  173. Give them to Him. Matthew 11:28-30, and there's

    Matthew 11:28–30

  174. so many other different passages that help us to understand about that.

  175. How about practicing love and forgiveness,

  176. showing kindness and patience and compassion,

  177. those things that you would already express in grace

  178. to others. Omnipresent,

  179. He's ever-present. Psalm 139:7-10,

    Psalms 139:7–10

  180. David says, where can I escape Your Spirit?

  181. Where can I go? Where can I flee from Your presence?

  182. If I go to heaven— finish it.

  183. You're there. If I make my bed in Sheol,

  184. You are there.

  185. It's a good thing to begin your day with God, is it not?

  186. It's also a good thing to end your day with Him,

  187. and then everywhere in between. You know, before we

  188. check our phone and get on social media and starting our activities,

  189. It's so important for us to take a moment and pray,

  190. thanking God for the day, thanking him for the breath that you have that

  191. morning, guiding your thoughts, guiding your words and

  192. your actions. And we might ask, are those consistent with

  193. what God teaches me about love and

  194. honesty and forgiveness and doing what is right?

  195. And then you come to the 4th pillar, being honest.

  196. He is ever truthful. Hebrews 6:18,

    Hebrews 6:18

  197. God gave a promise and an oath for 2 unchangeable

  198. things that cannot change. Number one, God— or

  199. because God cannot lie, and giving strong

  200. encouragement to people who run to him for

  201. safety. There's times in our life when we

  202. think of this pillar, this honesty that

  203. surrounds God for who he is, it ought to

  204. relieve us of the burden of overthinking.

  205. Have you ever done that? Have you thought yourself right out

  206. of a situation? I remember a movie one time

  207. where the actor said, whatever you're thinking, rethink it.

  208. That might be a good motto for us. Maybe there's

  209. times we need to rethink it to figure out what everything is going on,

  210. and more than that, to trust him for his answers.

  211. Freedom to be completely honest.

  212. You can't not be honest with God.

  213. You can do that with others, you can try,

  214. but you can't do it with him. You've got to be honest.

  215. He knows, he knows what's going on in your

  216. life. He still offers truth and love.

  217. And then of course, a solid anchor in times of difficulty and crisis

  218. when situations feel like we read in the parable

  219. of the of building our house on the rock or the sinking sand,

  220. the promise of God remains as solid.

  221. And then the last one,

  222. absolute, never ever

  223. changing. Malachi 3:6,

    Malachi 3:6

  224. God's character stays constant.

  225. And that is why I pray that we find safety.

  226. Trusting him during change.

  227. Relationships have a way of changing.

  228. Circumstances and situations that we go through have a

  229. way of changing, but God's character,

  230. who he is, remains constant.

  231. Rely on his promises instead of basing your faith

  232. on how you feel. What's the problem with

  233. that one? I should maybe be asking more questions here, but what's

  234. the problem with that one, basing your faith on how you feel?

  235. Is there a problem with that? Yeah,

  236. it's going to change. You feel the same thing or

  237. have the same mind every day? It's kind

  238. of like, uh, Groundhog Day, isn't it? You wake up and

  239. the alarm clock goes off and here you go again.

  240. It's a cool movie, it's a good movie. Being consistent.

  241. God is faithful and dependable. All he

  242. asks of us is to be ourself.

  243. That's all he asks. Just be yourself. You're a

  244. child of God. We are to change the world.

  245. We have the good news. We've got the best news,

  246. and that's what they need. And then of course,

  247. finding peace when life is uncertain.

  248. What will happen? God's nature,

  249. his goodness and faithfulness never

  250. change. Never change.

  251. So we need to focus on

  252. the everlasting faithfulness of

  253. God. I put some other ones down here that I didn't put,

  254. but all you've got to do is go through the book of Psalms and you'll

  255. find plenty, plenty of verses. Deuteronomy 7:9,

    Deuteronomy 7:9

  256. Know that the Lord your God is God,

  257. the faithful God who keeps His gracious

  258. covenant for 1,000 generations.

  259. How far is that? How long is that?

  260. And for those who love Him and keep His commands.

  261. Psalm 12:1, I know there's some up there, but I've also got some Psalms.

    Psalms 12:1

  262. Faithfulness has diminished among people,

  263. but that contrasts the very character of God. Psalm 33:4,

    Psalms 33:4

  264. all His work is done, everything that He does is

  265. done in faithfulness. Psalm 36:5,

    Psalms 36:5

  266. God's faithfulness reaches to the

  267. heavens. Psalm 89:1-2,

    Psalms 89:1–2

  268. In other verses in that Psalm, His faithfulness is proclaimed

  269. throughout generations, and it is praised among heavenly

  270. beings. Who would that be? Even His

  271. angels do that. He's surrounded.

  272. He is surrounded by faithfulness. Psalm 92:2,

    Psalms 92:2

  273. His faithfulness is proclaimed by night.

  274. Psalm 105, his faithfulness endures to

  275. all generations.

  276. Lamentations 3:23,

    Lamentations 3:23

  277. great is your faithfulness. We have a song, I believe, a hymn that we sing

  278. that expresses that. 1 Thessalonians 5:24,

    1 Thessalonians 5:24

  279. the one who calls you is faithful.

  280. And he will do it. 2 Timothy 2:13,

    2 Timothy 2:13

  281. if we are faithless, he remains faithful,

  282. for he cannot deny himself. 1 Peter 4:19,

    1 Peter 4:19

  283. so then those who suffer according to God's

  284. will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator

  285. and continue to do good.

  286. How, or why, I suppose we should ask,

  287. why can we rest in God's faithfulness?

  288. Someone want to answer that? How can we do that?

  289. I don't want this to be a full lecture because I'll probably run

  290. out of time. How can we do that? Why, why can

  291. we rest in God's faithfulness? Just— okay, He can't lie.

  292. He's not going to lie. He can't do it. It goes against His nature.

  293. Okay, He always does what He says. Are there times that we're

  294. not going to perhaps like that when

  295. He kind of interrupts our life the way we want to

  296. live? We have our own definition, do we not,

  297. of faithfulness? What we think is faithful and what

  298. he thinks.

  299. Anything else? There was a lady back

  300. in California and she'd say to me, oh, Sister Laura,

  301. she'd say, you don't want to get a whooping from the Lord.

  302. There you go. What she said was saying was that there are times when the

  303. Lord Yes.

  304. Okay, good.

  305. That's all good. Why does God—

  306. Psalm 31, just get— by the way, Psalm 31:23,

    Psalms 31:23

  307. it It says, the Lord preserves the faithful.

  308. Why? Why does He preserve the faithful

  309. versus perhaps the unfaithful?

  310. For His name's sake? They trust Him?

  311. Has your trust in Him ever waned?

  312. Have there been times when your faith wasn't as strong? As it

  313. should have been? If you can, if you

  314. can answer that in the affirmative, please see me after class.

  315. Or not affirmative, I guess, if you've never had that problem,

  316. because it's a problem, brother.

  317. Very good. That's a good

  318. one. Good.

  319. Yeah, someone once counted— I don't know who it was— someone once counted

  320. in the Bible how many times it says fear not or don't be afraid.

  321. They said 365 times. Isn't that interesting?

  322. Isn't that interesting? Every day,

  323. every day we can find a verse that helps

  324. us understand that.

  325. Isaiah 25:1 that's on the screen is amazing.

    Isaiah 25:1

  326. O Lord, You are my God. I will exalt

  327. You. I will praise Your name, for You have done wonderful things.

  328. Your counsels of old are faithfulness and

  329. Psalm— or excuse me, Matthew 25:33,

    Matthew 25:33

  330. Jesus says, well done, good and faithful servant.

  331. You've been faithful over little. Enter into the

  332. joy of the Lord. If there's any words

  333. I want to hear, on Judgment Day are

  334. those. Enter into the joy of the

  335. Lord. I don't want to hear, and I don't want you to hear,

  336. or you don't want anybody else to hear, depart from me,

  337. I never knew you. That would be horrible.

  338. Enter in. That's what we're all looking for.

  339. We want to be with him. And the faithful have gone on.

  340. John 16:33, again, in this life you will have trials and

    John 16:33

  341. tribulations, but be of good cheer because I've

  342. overcome it. Anything we go through in life,

  343. anything, you've got to understand that Jesus

  344. went through. Because if he didn't, he couldn't be

  345. our high priest. He knows.

  346. 1 Corinthians 1:9, as we read, God is faithful.

    1 Corinthians 1:9

  347. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says, no temptation

    1 Corinthians 10:13

  348. has overtaken you except such as is common to man. But here it is again,

  349. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you're

  350. able, but with the temptation, with the

  351. temptation will also make the way of escape that you're

  352. able to bear.

  353. It. I don't know about you, but when I'm tempted— and I've had that problem—

  354. I just want it gone. Don't you? Just get it out of my life.

  355. But God says, no, I'm going to use that temptation to

  356. teach you something. You're going to be stronger

  357. in your faith. And that's an important situation.

  358. 2 Timothy, we're going to use this towards the end

  359. too, but we'll read it now. 2 Timothy 4,

  360. you know these verses, 6 through 8. Paul is ready to

  361. give it up. He knows he's going to die.

  362. He knows where he's going. And he says, for I'm already being

  363. poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure

  364. is at hand. I've fought the good fight,

  365. I've finished the race, and here it comes.

  366. I've kept the faith. How many times have you heard that slogan

  367. said? Keep the faith. Keep the faith. All is

  368. well. It's easy to say.

  369. It's easy to say.

  370. Finally, there's laid up for me the crown of righteousness,

  371. which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that day,

  372. but not to me only. But all those who

  373. love His appearing. Do you love the appearing of

  374. the Lord? Are you waiting for Him to come back and take us home?

  375. Hebrews 3:2, Jesus was faithful.

    Hebrews 3:2

  376. 1 John 1:9, as we said, I think, He's faithful and just

    1 John 1:9

  377. to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us from

  378. all unrighteousness. 1 John 5:13,

    1 John 5:13

  379. these things are written that you may know— there's a present future

  380. tense there, by the way— that you may know that you have eternal life.

  381. We're looking forward to being with him, but John says you've

  382. got it now. That's in your possession.

  383. And that's what a way to look at it. And then of course

  384. Revelation 2:10, be faithful until death, and Jesus

    Revelation 2:10

  385. called faithful and true.

  386. You can add to this list because it has

  387. to be one that we could never find enough.

  388. Hebrews 11 is filled with people,

  389. but people throughout the Bible, Old Testament,

  390. New Testament, We think of Job,

  391. examples of those whose faith was shaken

  392. by difficult circumstances. His faith was

  393. tested. What happened to Job? Not only his faith was

  394. tested, what else happened to him in the first couple

  395. chapters? Okay, his children

  396. are gone. His health is gone.

  397. Was he pretty rich? Did he have a lot of wealth? What happened

  398. to that? Gone. Was he a man of integrity?

  399. A blameless man before God? Isn't that what it says in the first

  400. couple verses? What happened to that?

  401. He didn't see it. That was gone in

  402. a very short period. And one thing Job did that

  403. perhaps we all do at times, we ask God why instead

  404. of who.

  405. Why? We've got to remember who God

  406. is. And when you get to the end of the book and

  407. everything is restored to him double-fold, He says

  408. these words in verse 5 of chapter 42,

  409. now my eyes have seen you.

  410. I've heard, but now my eyes see you.

  411. Noah, he trusted God despite having

  412. no visible evidence of the coming flood. It didn't even

  413. rain on the earth.

  414. He built the ark because God commanded to, to the exact dimensions

  415. that he gave him. Genesis 6.

  416. Abraham. Abraham is known as

  417. who? The father of our faith.

  418. The father of our faith. Did he have his moments?

  419. Did he have his fears that led him to

  420. say Sarah was his sister? Rather than trusting God's

  421. protection, in Genesis 12 he lied to Pharaoh.

  422. In Genesis 20 he lied to Abimelech.

  423. He did it twice.

  424. Twice. Sarah struggled

  425. to believe that God would give her a child, and what did she

  426. do? She laughed. Thought that was

  427. Funny. Moses, overwhelmed by his calling,

  428. what did he do? When God told him to do what

  429. he needed to do, what did Moses do? I can't speak.

  430. All right, here comes the excuses, right?

  431. Excuses, excuses, you hear them every day.

  432. Reasons. How did God deal with that? He finally told

  433. him to what? Get going.

  434. The Israelites, God's people,

  435. repeatedly dealt with fear and hardship,

  436. caused them to doubt God, despising— or despite

  437. witnessing his power. How many times did they witness his power?

  438. The Red Sea crossing was just one of them.

  439. Giving them food and clothing that didn't

  440. wear out for 40 years,

  441. and they still didn't believe.

  442. David, many of his Psalms, as we've already looked

  443. at, express the periods of fear and doubt and loneliness

  444. and questioning. Yet he was a man,

  445. what? After God's own heart. It's interesting,

  446. Acts tells us that instead of a psalm,

  447. but he trusted in God.

  448. Elijah, a great

  449. spiritual victory that he had. What happened after that victory?

  450. Did he, did he just rest on that victory,

  451. or was he— did he become discouraged for any reason?

  452. Jezebel, they're gonna kill me.

  453. And he hides in a cave. And what's God tell him to do?

  454. Get going. He's gonna tell us the same thing

  455. because again, his faithfulness is

  456. the foundation of ours.

  457. It's got to be that way. Peter,

  458. The impetuous one, putting his sandal

  459. in his mouth all the time, or foot.

  460. When he got out of the boat and said

  461. he would come to Jesus, the only time he sank was when

  462. what? When he took his eyes off

  463. the Lord. The storms of life will handle you,

  464. will hand you that. Because there's going

  465. to be times in our life when the storms come and we take

  466. our eyes and our focus off of the only one who can calm the

  467. storm, and that's Christ.

  468. What about Thomas? We, you know, I, I don't know about you, but I think

  469. sometimes we're kind of rough on Thomas. We call him the Doubting

  470. Thomas. Did you ever read more about his life?

  471. About what happened. You know, just because he didn't realize

  472. who Jesus was or what was going on, or that He came back from the

  473. dead until he touched Him,

  474. the scars, the holes,

  475. he wanted evidence. You know, Hebrews 6:12,

    Hebrews 6:12

  476. the Christian Standard Version says, we don't want

  477. you to become lazy. But to imitate

  478. those who through faith and patience inherit

  479. what has been promised. When you read through the book of Hebrews, you see all

  480. the heroes of faith who trusted God, who had faith in God.

  481. Did they receive the promise? Not then.

  482. Moses, all of them didn't receive the promise right

  483. away. It was something that was afar off.

  484. And for us, it's the same way. We have the promise, but it's,

  485. it's not here yet. And when we're all with the Lord in

  486. heaven and with one another, we will truly understand

  487. that. Having your

  488. faith shaken doesn't

  489. mean your story is over.

  490. Please remember that your story is

  491. not over. All of these people,

  492. all of us sitting here tonight, others that we know

  493. in our communities struggle,

  494. but God continues to

  495. work in our life because he faithful.

  496. The stories of those we looked at tonight, plus so many others,

  497. shows us the importance of turning our attention

  498. back to God, especially when

  499. the storms of life are overwhelming.

  500. So God's faithfulness is the foundation of

  501. of ours.

  502. Faithfulness is never going to be easy. Why? Because Satan and sin

  503. make a daily struggle for us. But do

  504. you have the ability to fulfill God's plan for your life?

  505. Yes, we do. How do you do that?

  506. Draw near to God, resist the devil,

  507. and he'll flee from you. Study the Bible.

  508. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing

  509. by the Word of God. We know

  510. that verse, don't we? Surround yourself

  511. with God's people. Surround yourself.

  512. When we couple discernment with counting the

  513. cost of commitments, You can be sure that those things

  514. we commit are truly God's

  515. will for us. And because God is faithful,

  516. he will provide us with the necessary strength, time,

  517. and resources to echo,

  518. to resemble his faithfulness.

  519. 2 Timothy 4. 6 through 8 one more time.

  520. Paul fought the good fight, he finished the

  521. race, and he kept the faith.

  522. What was waiting for him was the crown of righteousness

  523. that was reserved for him,

  524. but not only to him, but to all who

  525. love his appearing. You couple that verse with

  526. Revelation 2:10. What's it say?

    Revelation 2:10

  527. Be faithful unto death to what? To receive

  528. the crown of righteousness.

  529. We all want that. We want that

  530. crown. And I believe every day we're hopefully putting

  531. gems in that crown. Maybe perhaps God gives us gems

  532. that are so valuable because

  533. of his faithfulness, you can't put

  534. a price on them. His love, his compassion,

  535. his mercy, his grace, the way he

  536. puts up with us at times, the way he disciplines us

  537. at times because he loves us. You know,

  538. we can look at discipline in a kind of a negative way, but discipline,

  539. all it means is training, educating.

  540. That's really what it means. We think of discipline as,

  541. you know, taking that child over our knee and give

  542. them a little paddywhack or whatever we might want to do. But I don't know,

  543. today you can get in trouble for doing that, but You know,

  544. about spare the rod, spoil the child.

  545. Um, I've talked a lot tonight and I probably shouldn't have, but any, any comments,

  546. anything? You know, I, all I wanted to do was get across the

  547. faithfulness of God versus ours. But we've got

  548. so many, as Charles brought out last week, so many in our life

  549. perhaps we can look for that, but there's so many in the Bible

  550. that definitely we can relate to.

  551. They were just like us. They're people, common people

  552. dealing with life,

  553. and it can hand you a mess,

  554. but God's already cleaned it up. The blood of

  555. Christ has cleansed us and continues to do so.

  556. Saved by the bell. Let's have a quick prayer.

  557. Father God, as we approach you tonight, we're so thankful for your faithfulness because

  558. it truly is the foundation of our lives. Help us

  559. always to live faithful lives, Father, knowing that the reward

  560. that we have is being with you,

  561. being with your Son, being with all those that we

  562. looked at tonight and so many others that have been faithful

  563. till death. Help us to understand that it might even cause

  564. that for us to be faithful, as it did our brothers

  565. and sisters in the book of Revelation. But we know

  566. that you're with us. It's in Jesus' name we

  567. pray. Amen. Thank you.
