Sunday Message: When There Becomes Here

For those of us who have not had the pleasure to journey with us over the last month or so, we've done a series called A Place Called There.

A place called There.

And we're going to wrap this up today.

When there becomes here.

When there becomes here.

So what happens is, it is my belief that God has a place called there for each and every one of us.

In his divine wisdom, he has an ideal in his mind of a place he wants you to get to before you transition.

How do I know this?

Jeremiah chapter 29, verse 11.

I'm gonna read it to you.

Jeremiah 29, verse 11.

Read out the NLT and the KJV, because I know someone's probably got either one of those.

King James.

But I know thoughts that I think towards you, says the Lord.

Thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Then shall you call upon me, and you shall go and pray to me, and I will hearken unto you.

And ye shall seek me and find me when you search me with all your heart.

I will be found by you, said the Lord.

I will turn away from your captivities and will gather you from the nations and the places with I've driven you, I will bring you again.

I will bring you again to the place which I have caused you to be carried away captive.

So I'll bring you back to the place that I have for you.

So I know the thoughts I have for you, said the Lord.

So my premise is that if God has thoughts for us, out of the NLT, real quick.

They are plans for good and not for disaster to give you a future and a hope.

That's what God is saying to us.

I have a place called there for you.

I have a place that before you transition, I want you to get to.

Can we agree on all that piece?

Alright, since we got a universal or birth-to-death place called there, I personally believe that there's a seasonal place called there.

I believe there's a daily place called there.

Take a step further.

I believe there's a place called there in your place of prayer with God.

What do you mean?

There's a because God is kind of busy.

I don't know how many of y'all are busy.

You have a schedule, so getting some of your time is difficult.

Because y'all are tidies of industry here.

That's what's up.

So what happens is, once you have a meeting with somebody, you don't waste time in meetings that make no sense, right?

So that means there's a point for this meeting and there's a place we're gonna get to as we gather together, right?

What is a what if I told you that on God's calendar he's made time for you?

We can all agree with that, right?

God wants to talk to you.

So if God on his calendar has a time for you, and if he's busier than you are, then that means that he has a purpose, a thing he wants to accomplish when you go to him in prayer.

Fair?

Now, the difference is this that purpose is only accomplished.

I was still on the table and say this too.

When you intentionally spend time with God.

This is that old school early in the morning, late at night.

I ain't talking about those prayers on the go that God on the go stuff, that a lot of us do.

Hey God, I'm too busy to spend time with you, so what I'm gonna do, God, will you go with me throughout this day?

Like you drive, give us this thing, da da da.

God, handle the da da da da da.

God is like, hold on, time out.

I want your attention.

It's like I used to tell my players, look at like listen to me with your eyes.

Look at me when I'm talking to you.

Listen to me when I'm talking to you.

God wants that type of time from us too.

Why?

Because He wants to download, He wants to tell you stuff, not only about this day, but we just prayed about some heavy stuff.

He wants to give you divine insight to where handle this this way, handle it that way.

But if we don't show up to our appointments, like she's mad at me.

Like, will you go see the dentist?

Will you go see the doctor?

I I'm getting better.

But why do some of us treat our dentists or our doctors better than treat our God?

You will never miss an appointment.

Never miss it.

You schedule right now, it's on your calendar to the date.

But God is like, hey, I want some time with you.

I want something, I want you to accomplish something on this day at this time.

But it's like, no, God, I'm too busy, I'm too this, da da da.

God is like, but the plans I have for you, you won't realize fully.

You do you get drip, drip, drip, drip, but you won't get that deluge that God asked me.

Why?

Because you won't spend time with me.

So that was part of that.

Go back and listen to it or talk to one of the people in the Lil Bow church.

So, with this place called There, we went to Psalms 91.

And we remembered for most of us, learned about for some of us, was called the Secret Place.

What's fun about this place called the Secret Place is we're invited to dwell or live there.

But unfortunately, too many of us, we treat a place you're supposed to live like a VRBO.

A vacation home.

A hotel.

Yeah.

We visit there.

Some of us visit there on Sundays.

Some of us visit there, honestly.

You got it going.

It's at your house.

But you visit there.

So a place where God wants you to get comfortable at.

Comfortable.

Like your stuff is there.

Like you got a place for your shoes, even though you don't use it.

It's yours with your name on it.

Your toothbrush is there.

Your clothes are spread out.

Why?

That's how comfortable God wants you to be there with Him.

But unfortunately, too many times we just visit there.

Whether you have a great retreat, a great time at church, whether you have a great time talking about the things of God.

Yeah, yeah, God, I get comfortable here because I never want you to leave my presence.

Do not settle for a Wi-Fi connection with God when He's an Ethernet type guy.

You like that, don't it?

He's an Ethernet type guy.

He's not a Wi-Fi guy.

Yes, he will give you the ability to create the Wi-Fi, but he's more of an Ethernet guy.

Stay connected.

He wants to be able to whenever he needs to.

But far too many times, what happens?

Alright, guys, just give me, you know, just uh just give me no god, no, no, direct connection.

That's what God wants with us.

So we talked about that in that secret place.

And then from the I ain't read it, I'm sorry.

Something went on King James, because this is how I learned it growing up.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord, He's my refuge and my fortress, my God, in Him will I trust.

Then it's a promise, but only for that person.

A lot more of the Bible is conditional than we want to give it credit for.

That's right, that's right.

So this person that dwells in the secret, that dwells there, not visit there, that dwells there, that person shall say, shall be delivered from the snare of the fowler.

Why?

Because you're not gonna miss it.

That person, why?

Because you minding your own business, doing what you're supposed to be doing when you're supposed to be doing.

The grace is over here, not over there.

We have 6 a.m.

and 6 p.m.

prayer.

So what happened is we talked about this.

David, let me teach on that.

So what happened?

David, 2 Corinthians, 2 Chronicles.

2 Satan, I'm sorry.

David, 2 Samuel.

Remember that part when David sinned, he saw the woman, got up into adultery, right?

See, he said, like that girl is fine.

He just had to have her.

Tell her to come here.

Find this, he's another man's wife.

Damn.

You know the crazy part about that story?

David wasn't even supposed to be at home during that time.

Look at verse 1.

The time when kings go out to battle.

Some of us, okay.

Some of us, you're supposed to be, there's a grace for you to go fight certain things.

But unfortunately, you're MIA over there, so you fall in over here.

David's grace was on the battlefield during that particular time.

Meaning, if David would have gone out to fight the fight, he was supposed to have fought, he would have won and came back, and he would not have had another man killed because he wanted his wife.

But because he wasn't where the grace was, he was outside and this dude could slay Goliath, but he couldn't say no to.

You're having a good day.

Today's gonna be the good day.

You got a text message, you see somebody's name, or you happen to meet some people here, you realize, oh, that's the same name as again.

If David was doing what God told him to do in the time he was supposed to have done it, there would be no Bathsheba story.

If you were doing what you were supposed to have done in the time it was supposed to have gotten done.

So we talked about that.

So once again, that's what's got there.

Most importantly, there's a it's there's a grace for there.

I agree.

Too many times what happens is we try to go out things, go at things on our own, and we want, all right, God, this is what I want to do.

God bless my mess as opposed to me spending up time with God to understand where are you already blessing?

God is only obligated to bless his words, to honor his words.

He's only obligated to honor that.

Now we we we get it right and wrong.

But how much more would it be we got it right majority, if not all the time, then have this ain't baseball.

This is basketball.

No, it's no, no, this is football season.

If you all's favorite quarterback had a 50% completion rate, is that good?

No, no, so why do we allow ourselves to have a 50% accuracy rate with the things of God?

Y'all can't even see me, okay?

So now, why are we selling for less from our quarterback of our team?

When God views you as his star player too.

You are God's star player.

He loves you.

Yes, he does.

I mean, she knows God loves her.

We need to tell her God loves other people too.

But you know that God loves you.

So yeah.

So we talked about that as well.

Verse um eight and nine.

Only with thine eyes should I behold and see the reward of the wicked.

Why?

Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most high, thy habitation.

In that place shall no evil befall thee.

Neither shall any plague come nigh your dwelling.

That's a promise.

If you make the Lord the Most High, your dwelling, your habitation, then shall no evil be.

It's in black and white.

Because you you know when it's time to stay put, time to move.

You know where that ball or pillar of fire is taking you.

When it stops, you stop.

When it moves, you move.

God, I'm not moving forward unless you go with me.

That's right.

If you ain't there, God, guess who ain't there?

So we talked about that.

Talk about the different types of prayer because I do believe our relationships affect how we interact with God.

Your earthly relationships affect how you interact with God.

God is my father.

How many of y'all got a great relationship with your dad?

Or if he's passed on, had one while he was here?

Yeah.

That's about what I thought.

It's about what I thought.

It's not what I thought.

So now, let me ask you this.

Those that raise your hand.

If you had a great relationship with your dad, does viewing God as your father isn't more encouraging, exciting, because of the example, the earth example that you had?

Yes.

Which means, possibly, not that this is the gospel, just humor me.

I'm studying trauma on the doctoral level.

I'm gonna finish at some point.

So sociological type of research.

For those of us, relationship is iffy with our father.

Does that jade or skew your relationship with God?

That's a good question.

Just asking.

Once we talked about prayer, what happens is this.

We were challenged to examine our earthly relationships and view how we stretch or put pressure on our relationship with God.

Because in a good relationship, you can have all types of conversations.

I can go to, oh, guess what?

This girl has been married to me for 15 years this past summer.

That's crazy.

I don't know what's wrong with her.

But now watch this.

In our relationship, we can talk about times where we're happy.

We can give things, we hype each other up.

We can tell, hey, would you cover me?

This is going on, that's going on, right?

Different depths, different levels, different types of conversations, right?

Even the harbor, well, I know you pissed off at me, but I'm gonna come back and talk to you later.

Different types of conversations.

If I can have this with my earthly wife, I got some friends here, some really good friends here.

We can have those types of conversations with them.

What is communication, conversation with God?

Prayer.

Simple definition of prayer, communication, conversations with God.

So that means we are invited to have different levels, different types of conversations with God in your place of prayer.

How many of us actually use those though?

Do we take?

Do we like the old school song?

Oh, what peace we often forfeit, oh what needless pains we bear.

All be to go into marinate to God in prayer.

Look at y'all.

A lot of people are dealing with some stuff, they hold on to stuff because they have the opportunity to take it to God in prayer, but we don't want to talk to him about it.

But we're let it marinate, let it rule in our mind.

Let it sit there and marinate, which is stronghold to the devil, because now he has a uh a way in.

And then we wonder why your thoughts don't please God because we're too busy holding on to those intrusive ones.

I say holding on to them.

Cast down every thought.

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry.

So then we got there to stay there long enough to where there changes you.

For instance, if I had, if Tony has a particular scent, you like vanilla, right?

Yes, Tony likes vanilla.

I don't personally care for it.

It sounds like I'm about to eat, but there's no food or cupcakes around the house when she burns it.

I can't stand that.

So if she's burning, if I'm around that vanilla scent and I leave that place, how would I smell?

Like vanilla vanilla.

Do we spend enough time with God?

Not really, because there is a there is a smell in a secret place.

To where we spend enough time, to where we look, we feel, we smell, we come off like Jesus.

So what happens is Jesus has left the scene, and the disciples are doing Acts as empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Of Peter and John and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men.

They marveled and they took knowledge of them.

That they have been with Jesus.

What they like becomes what you like, what they do becomes what you do.

And so as a result, if we're not careful, do they know more that you spend time with him, her, and them, or with him?

Which one?

Once they interact with you, once they talk to you, once you pissed off, does it show you spend more time with Jesus?

That's a good question.

When is he gonna get through with that part of it?

That part.

I ain't talking about the whole finish work.

He'd be working you to your transition.

So these people, they saw they had been with Jesus.

So these people had the audacity to leave being threatened, and then to go back to the place of prayer.

People who are praying, and they kept praying.

Kept praying.

Peter and John told them what had happened.

Verse 23.

And being let go, they went to their own company, reported all the chief priests and elders had said to them.

And when they heard them, they lift up their voice to God on one accord and said, Lord, thou art God, which has made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them.

Who by the mouth of thy servant David hath said, Why did the heathen rage rage?

And the people imagine imagined vain things.

The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered toward together against the Lord, and against his Christ, for a truth against his holy child Jesus, whom thou hath anointed both Herod and Pontius Pilate with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel were gathered together, for to do whatsoever thy hand that counsel determined before to be done.

And now, Lord, behold their threatenings.

I don't think I can keep my religion.

Behold their threatening and grant to thy servants that with all they may speak thy word.

By stretching forth thy hand to heal, that signs and wonders may be done.

And by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

And when they prayed, the place was shaking when they were all assembled together.

They were all filled with the Holy Ghost.

And they spoke the word of God with boldness.

Yes, they're gonna threaten you.

Yes, we're gonna have situations that look bad.

Yes, but the question is do you go bold or do you fold?

Where'd that come from?

I like it.

Which one?

Now, there are some situations that are tight.

I agree.

I agree.

So they're tight.

Okay, now so the question is Ephesians chapter 6.

Spiritual warfare.

The word of God is the sword of the spirit, right?

It's interesting.

That word is rhema, not Logos.

It's not Logos, it's Rhema.

Which means, as you're in that moment, he's gonna give you a quickened word, and it may not be in this text, but it's back up by the text, and that becomes what you say whenever the situation comes up.

That revelation, that word.

What you mean?

We were praying for healing.

What do you mean?

What I need to say, Father God, he'll get dropped a boom.

Do it this way.

Huh?

Don't do this.

Huh?

Financial situation.

Do this.

Talk to this person.

Go here.

Rame a word, because there's nowhere in this book it says, Reggie should marry Tony.

Nowhere in this book, you should go here.

It's not here.

But the God of the book will tell you what to do.

Will tell you where to go.

But the question is, do we spend enough time to say, hey, show me.

Lead me.

And now, whenever the enemy brings up their situation to still kill and destroy the word in your life, you speak it with more boldness.

I've gotten more excited about this than Bo.

That's what's up.

So do we stay there long enough to change?

Which brings us to the part Tony wanted me to talk about.

When I told her I was gonna teach about this, she was like, you can't talk about bold.

Welcome to our place called There.

I say that because of this.

I was talking to my mom.

Um we were at a wedding last weekend, and one of my friends growing up, dear, dear friend, I was talking to his wife.

She was like, I remember 18 years ago when we were talking about you all starting a church in Atlanta.

She was like, we were talking about it, da da da, you're gonna do this, da da da da da da da da da, you're gonna do all this stuff.

And so then all of a sudden, I mean, y'all, first of all, apparently I've been talking about moving to Atlanta since I was young.

I don't think I realized how much I thought about moving here.

So, hey yay.

Even within here, we knew as early as 2012, 13, 14, we were gonna come back here and build a ministry here.

So, as we talked about our place called there, welcome to here.

Welcome to our here.

Now, why is that important?

Because far too often, I told my mom about this too, we pray prayers or we have things over time that we let go of.

Reggie, the stars not aligning.

Reggie, it was never the time.

Reggie, Reggie, Reggie, Reggie.

But what happens is we let go of a guy dream.

And we allow the devil to eat at it and steal it and take it away from you.

And as a result, what he wants to happen doesn't happen.

Not because he doesn't want it to, but because we let it go because we put God on a time clock.

At least 18 years.

Between us knowing it, and we served at LCC, which is why most of y'all are here from that relationship.

But we always knew it was here.

Even when we detoured and had moments where it was like, you know, God, could it be?

It looked different.

He still came back.

Not only that, your inheritance is in Carrollton.

Now, that's us.

I love the first part of this because Jesus is teaching, and he pretty much told disciples to figure it out.

But then they were bold enough to pull Jesus aside.

Jesus, you talked for a minute.

But what the heck did you even say?

They pulled him to the side, then gave him the breakdown of what that actually meant.

Verse 13.

He said to them, Unto you is given the mystery of the kingdom of God, but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables.

That sin they may see and not perceive.

Hearing they may hear and not understand, lest at any time they should be converted and their sin should be forgiven.

Different conversation.

Know ye not this parable, then how should you understand all the other ones?

The soul sow of the word.

The word, right?

And these are the which by the wayside, where the word was sown, but when he had when they have heard, Satan comes immediately to take it away that which was sown into their heart.

What did Satan come and take away?

The word.

The word takes that vertical.

So Satan came first.

Okay?

And likewise of them which sown on stony ground, who when they have heard the word, immediately receded with gladness, yes.

But they have no root in themselves, so they endure for a time, and afterwards, when afflictions or persecution or persecution arise for the word's sake, of me they get offended.

Who do you think you are believing?

You're gonna start a ministry.

If you knew me growing up, I studied worse than I do now.

Mom and sister, right there, right?

Me being in front of people, I laugh every single day.

I have a job where I talk all day long.

Y'all call me, keep me talking all night long.

And then we come here, me talking.

This is funny to me.

Because I remember me probably fifth grade through 11th grade, I don't want to talk to nobody except my homies.

I remember that.

I remember I wrote a letter, I like this girl.

Keanu Anderson.

Love you.

I like this girl.

And I remember telling my teacher in fifth grade, hey, would you tell her that I like her?

And like a horrible wingman, she didn't.

She didn't do that.

So me talking in front of people, that dude, because I almost like to get up the it happens a little bit now.

Y'all have caught me, but this is a whole lot better.

A whole lot better.

Oh, I know that.

And so it's funny that like we sitting here, like, man.

So now, but that dude got the word while I was still stuttering.

Yeah.

That dude got the word.

Yes.

Not when I was, remember I was in my dorm, coach, boom, go talk.

Dang God, for real.

The dude that stuttered.

The dude that was quieter because he didn't want to stutter publicly.

Not because it wasn't in there, but because I didn't want to be up there, waste y'all time.

In the beginning, okay.

That dude got the revelation.

Afflictions, persecution.

Why?

Because that dude was told to preach and teach.

But the word still stands.

It has within the ability to produce that God sent it to actually do.

And then, verse 18, and they are the which are sown among thorns, such as they hear the world.

And the cares of this world, the steepness of riches and lustful other things, enter and choke out the word, and it became unfruitful.

Now we see numerous times he's coming for the word.

We got two options.

Go bold or fold.

I like that.

How do we go bold?

Go back to Acts.

When they saw the persecutions, they saw the threats, they saw it, but they knew the word of God.

And as a result, God give us more boldness, make us more strong to be able to stand against the afflictions, against the persecutions, against the love of the flesh, against the deceitful risk, against the desire for other things.

Why?

So we can be verse 20.

And these are they which are sown on good ground.

They hear the word, receive it, and it brings forth fruit, 30, 60, and 100fold.

Hold on to it.

You gotta hold on to it.

As we pray, what's he giving you?

Words.

He's giving you words.

The question is, will we take his word and will we think about the word?

Meditate on the word.

You meditate on the word, it brings courage.

From that place of courage, now we're internally ready to go, and then we can take bold actions.

Courage is internal.

Bold is a verb, actionary stuff.

The question though, will we hold on to his word enough?

Will we take enough time to spend enough time with him?

Alright, God, what are you saying to me?

And then will we renew that's a good will we renew our mind enough so that Romans 12, 2 be for you?

Romans 12, 2.

Be don't uncle from this world, be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may know.

God's good, pleasing, perfect will for you.

So if you don't know me now, renew your mind to what?

His promises.

Renew your mind to his word.

For some of us, remember the last thing he told you.

Why it irritates you.

That's some reason why you're battling with some stuff now because you know you should be there, but you're not there yet.

It bothers you.

But God is like, I ain't finished with you yet.

I'm just weaving everything together so I can get you to your place called.

Make sense?

What's the takeaway from this?

First of all, on behalf of my wife and I, I ask that you get a bold picture of your place culture.

Look back.

Are you even trending in that direction?

Some of us are living life, we just going through emotion without even thinking.

Romans 12, 2 in a different translation.

That it's like, no, no.

Are we moving in a direction to where God has told me to, or am I just trying to survive?

I understand survival.

There's a season for that, but at the same time, God is like, hey, I want to call you higher.

So, your place called there.

Get that back in your purview.

Get that back in your mirror.

Get that back.

And most importantly, have your place called there.

This points you back to a relationship.

So spend a little extra time with them this week.

And selfishly, those you are that able, come back next week as we talk about loving God and living both.

Father God, we love you.

We just thank you.

This is the day that you have made.

We get to rejoice.

We get to share.

We get to talk, dear God, and be glad in.

Father God, we thank you.

We're in Carrollton.

We thank you, dear God, for relationships.

We old mountain, dear God, to open up their school, their facilities with us, allowing us to use their name in the community, Father God.

We pray an extra special blessing upon them.

We thank you for our local partners, Father God.

We just actually express a grace and bless upon them as well.

We thank you for those who traveled near and far to be with us on this day.

I pray, dear God, that we did, we said what you have us to do and say.

And as we depart from this place, dear God, we'll never depart from your presence, Father God.

And that what you did here on the mountain, Oak Mountain, we will get to take it to our neighborhoods, to take it to our homes, our communities, Father God.

And most importantly, we will take extra time to meet you in that secret place.

We take eyes to see ears to hear, which is that our gifts from God.

We take hold of that, Father God.

And we just ask, give us more boldness.

For more boldness to double down on what your word says.

This is what your word says.

I know what I see, but this is what your word says.

I know what I'm hearing, but this is what your word says, Father God.

And I pray that we will be trained warriors who will wield our sword until the victory is won.

Until we have what you say that we can have, until we see what you say come to pass, we will not stop believing, we will not stop praying, we will not stop praising, we will not stop worshiping, we will not stop encouraging the Almost Holy Faith until we see what you say come to pass.

Because we will not be like the person who went to heaven, saw that storage room of all the unfulfilled promises.

Of all the things you wanted to release on the earth through that person, of how good you want to be to him, but it was up in heaven.

No, on earth, as it is there.

May West Metro Atlanta, the metro area, East Alabama, which you called us to look like heaven.

And we will pray.

We will write.

We will record.

We will hug.

We will love.

We will show up until it's done.
