MGD: The Mind of Christ; His Obedience & Servanthood

Shalom beloved and welcome to today's episode of our morning

glory devotion here at Harvest Chapel International Kumasi. We thank

God for the opportunity to share in fellowship with you today.

Let us pray. Thank you our Lord Jesus and Master.

for the gift of life today. Please help us in

our walk with you to become more and more like Jesus.

Teach us to yield our hearts and desire you daily.

Thank you for always hearing us. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Beloved,

let's take our confession from Joshua chapter 1, the verse 8.

This book of the law shall not depart out of

my mouth, but I shall meditate in it day and night,

that I may observe to do according to all that

is written in it. For then I will make my

way prosperous, and then I will have good success. Amen.

The topic for today's episode is the mind of Christ,

His obedience and servanthood. The Mind of Christ, His Obedience

and Servanthood. This episode is written by Deacon and Deaconess Mensah.

We'll take our scripture reading from Philippians chapter 2, the

Philippians 2 · chapter mention

verse 7. Rather, he made himself nothing by taking the

very nature of a servant and being made in human likeness. Amen.

The mind of Christ, his obedience and servanthood. A few

weeks ago in my Sunday school class, we discussed what

it meant to have order in our service and ultimately

serving like Jesus did. Each child promised to be great

at home, When we recapped the lessons the following week,

every child was eager to share how they had practiced

service both at home and wherever they found themselves. Kweku,

a 10-year-old boy, stood out in his testimony. He said,

I intentionally prayed to God to help me to be

hardworking this entire week. At home, I stayed close to Mamie.

and listened carefully to all that she told me to do.

I helped her in the kitchen the whole of Saturday

to prepare meals for the week. I helped her to

clean up afterwards whilst my brothers were playing. I also

helped my siblings to do their chores, even though they

didn't help me to do mine. All these made mommy

very happy, and as a reward, She promised to let

me do very little over the next week, though I

wanted a birthday party. She promised to come up with

something else for me, he said. Beloved Kweku's story draws

out some key lessons we can glean from as we

seek to practice Jesus' obedience and servanthood. The first thing

is prayer. He said in his story, I intentionally pray

to God to help me to be hardworking. Beloved, without

the help of the Holy Spirit, we can do nothing.

We will end up in frustration and eventually abandon the

entire journey of becoming Christ-like. Jesus was in constant conversation

with his Father in everything he did. In Hebrews 11

Hebrews 11:7

verse 7, The Bible puts it this way. During the

days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers

and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one

who could save him from death. And he was heard

because of his reverent submission. The second thing is staying close.

Like Jesus, Kweku stayed close to Mami. Jesus did what

he saw necessary. The father do because he was close

to him. We cannot obey and serve when we stay

far away from the altars of God. The third is

listening and doing. Little Kweku said, I listened carefully to

all that mummy told me to do. One popular quote

from his pastor said, You cannot serve God on your

own terms. To have the mind of Christ, we simply

have to listen and do what he tells us to do.

The next lesson is putting on a servant's attitude. Kweku

decided to help even when his siblings were playing. He

even went the extra mile to help them do their chores.

That was a mark of a great leader. Like Jesus,

a great example, he took on the attribute of a

servant and decided to serve and give his life as

a ransom to many instead of being served. The final

lesson is obedience and service brings rewards. Kweku's decision to

serve brought recognition and reward. Though he didn't get exactly

what he wanted, Sometimes in our walk with God, we

often do not get to choose what we want as

our rewards. Nevertheless, whatsoever he gives us often turns out

to be the best. For the Bible says that every

good and perfect gift comes from above, and he adds

no sorrow to it. Like little Kweku, we must go

to God in prayer and in the study of his word.

asking him to show us what he might want us

to do at any point in time, and then grant

us the grace to listen and do with a cheerful

heart all to the praise and glory of his name alone. Amen.

us enough to correct us. Forgive us for all the

times we allowed pride and offense to take root when

we were corrected. Lord, We put on the mind of

Christ today, an obedient mind. Give us the grace to

hear your voice and to obey because you said so.
