Well, thank you, uh worship team, for and uh all the teams.

How many of you appreciated the the parking team out there today who helps you park and find a spot?

It's getting more and more uh challenging to put everyone into our space, and uh we're really excited, especially on a day like today.

Uh this morning we're starting a new series, and uh how many of you are looking forward to this new season that we're a part of?

It's great.

I uh I know the the scripture talks about two types of time.

There's a chronos time, which is the time that we measure seconds, minutes, hours.

But uh in Ecclesiastes, it talks about seasons and how God moves you into a different season.

And when God is moving you into a different season, you want to be ready.

And you want to be ready.

It's it's uh a kairos time, and God wants to perfect something in you in this season.

So nudge your neighbor and say you're in a new season.

New season, God's gonna perfect something in you in this season.

Amen.

So what we're doing today is we're actually focusing on this ministry mindset, and it's a purpose-driven, uh, purpose-driven perspective on God's intended design for you, and his design and purpose for you.

So today we're starting with what I've called the mentoring.

And the mentoring is from moving from addition to multiplication.

I love addition, but when you can get to a point where, for example, your money is multiplying, that's that's a good thing.

And you know that the the it in the Garden of Eden, it wasn't always, you know, God said to man, I'm gonna send you out and I'm gonna add to you.

He says, I want to send you out, and what is your job to do?

Multiply.

Multiply.

Multiply.

Now, of course, we always think of that in terms of our kids, right?

We just multiply lots of kids, and I've heard you've, I'm sure you've heard that, but it's more than just multiply your life on this earth, it's multiplying your resources, it's multiplying your time, your talent, your treasure to make a difference in the world.

So today we're moving from addition to multiplication.

So I want to start today by sharing on this one scripture.

And it's a story of two men.

Uh, they were it's related to the same sermon.

Um, they experienced the same storm, and yet they had two completely different results.

And we're gonna discuss why these two stories ended differently.

So in Matthew chapter 7, verse 24, we read this.

Matthew 7:24

It says, Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

The rain came down, the streams rose, the winds blew and beat against the house, yet it did not fail, because it had a foundation on the rock.

But everyone who hears these words of mine does not put them into practice, is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.

The rain came down, the streams rose, the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.

So Jesus is sharing this story about two guys who built two different houses.

I'm sure it was on the same neighborhood, the same blueprints, same design, same patio, same doors.

You know, it's the same paint on the exterior.

Everything, if you were driving by on a Sunday afternoon, you would probably look at these two houses and you see them the same.

From what you could see, they were the same.

Everything you could see from the road would be similar, but only one of them dug down deep.

Luke tells the same story, but he adds a detail that Matthew doesn't.

He says, the wise builder dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock.

Dug down deep.

And honestly, this is the whole sermon.

You guys can get up and go for uh, you know, Korean food and whatever stuff of food, ice cream, Korean food and ice cream is always a good mix.

And uh afterwards, but I I really think this sermon could be called Dig Down Deep and really hold on to that.

Dig down deep.

Would you say that with me?

Dig down deep, dig down deep.

Now, what does that mean?

And that's why I'm here.

So the storm comes.

The question was uh never will we experience a storm?

How many of you have experienced obstacles, tribulation, trials, difficulties, rejection, resistance, setbacks, all those things are a part of our life story.

And let me share a little bit about what I know about digging is that uh when it comes to digging foundations, no one like really celebrates the foundation.

I've never seen like a hole dug, and people like take photos of the hole and post it on platforms.

They take photos of trophies, but they don't take photos of the things that go unseen.

No one celebrates the footings, no one celebrates the concrete truck arriving at the place, no one celebrates the foundation.

In reality, though, digging is the part of the build that no one else sees, but everybody needs.

Everyone needs a strong foundation.

Uh, one summer, a few years ago, um, Natalie's grandmother passed away, and we celebrated the life of her grandma by traveling to her home city in Swift Current.

I always thought Swift Current was related to like some river that would, you know, it had a strong current.

I didn't realize until I got there that it was probably the most dangerous place on earth to live.

Because it might have been the scariest moment I had when we rolled into Swift Current, pulled into a Walmart parking lot, and I look outside and I see uh a shopping cart going 50 kilometers an hour across the across the shopping mall.

Because literally there was no like no one's parked there, and I had a uh a car and I was like, where am I gonna park?

That these the wind was taking these shopping carts from one end to the other end of this of this parking lot.

I almost lost the limb by opening the door, and then the wind.

How many of you have ever been to Swift Current before?

Yeah, like you open the door and you let go of the door to grab your coffee or something, and that door slams with such force, it's like you're gonna lose an appendage.

It's like it's done.

It's a scary place.

I've never driven over so many locusts and scraped my windshield of like like ice, like it was like bugs on your windshield.

And I'm not joking.

Some of you are thinking I'm exaggerating.

It wasn't an exaggeration.

That's prairie living.

And I love the prairies, uh, the prairie people, because I married one and I'm gonna say it, but they're really different than the mountain dwellers that we have here in the city.

And uh even though we live in a valley, I'm so grateful for Klona.

And uh one of the unique traditions that her family had was the night before the burial, all the family got together and they went to the grave site, and they each brought a shovel and they dug a hole to lay her in the ground.

And they worked until the hole was dug, and then they leave the shovels there, and it was really important.

It actually, a memo came out.

Make sure that you put a name on your shovel, because you're not gonna walk away with my prize shovel.

This is the prairies, right?

That's my shovel.

And uh they fill the hole after the body is laid in the hole, and it was an incredible experience because as they were refilling the hole, people are singing songs, they their prayers, they're reminiscing about their life, and it was really a true celebration.

But it's a great tradition, but in BC, we use a machine to dig a hole.

And why?

Because I don't know if you've ever dug a hole before, but it could be the most difficult thing you've ever done.

Like digging a hole in the ground for like you know, you watch it on TV, it's like they just dug a hole.

It's all computer graphics, it's it's not that easy.

Digging a hole is hard.

It is really hard.

It could be the most difficult thing that you do.

And if you if you look at what happened in the scripture, you see exactly why the second builder skipped the process.

And I don't think he took a shortcut because he was lazy.

I don't think he took a shortcut because he was, you know, because when we read this story, we think of him as kind of like he's the villain of the story.

Oh, bad guy.

He dug on, he didn't, he built on the sand.

What a what a guy.

I would never do that.

I've watched people on survival shows on YouTube because that's where I get all my factual information.

I've watched people go on survival shows, and where do they they build?

The sand.

Why?

Because it's flat, it's easy to move, it's already there.

It's it's it's already set.

But what happens is when they build on the sand, oftentimes early in the morning when the tide comes in, they realize their house is being swept away with all their resources.

It's a dangerous place, but I don't believe that he was actually the villain.

I don't think he woke up one day and thought, I'm gonna build my house on the sand and so that one day the storm would come and it'd all fall over.

I think he actually thought that I can get through this with like cutting this corner and taking a shortcut.

And Jesus says this really straight.

He says, the rain came down, the streams rose, the winds blew against the house, and then he says the exact same thing about the other house.

Same rain, same streams, same storm, and what happens?

It falls down.

One of my mom's verses that she used to repeat back to us as kids, and she would remind us to never forget is that the words of Jesus after the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5, 45, it says, the rain falls on the just and the unjust alike.

A life without trouble is not is not realistic.

A life without a rainstorm, it's not that if if it happens, it's when it happens.

And what happens is the storm doesn't come and just uh you know check the foundation beforehand goes, ah, here I'm coming around, here's the storm.

And have you got a firm foundation?

No, it just does what a storm does, it exposes what you're built on.

And Jesus makes a point of telling us that it's with great that that one house that was built on the sand, it crashed with a great, violent crash.

It was obliterated.

A storm reveals what's happening, and every shortcut you take will be exposed, and every corner you cut will have a consequence, and we have to be willing to hear that.

So Jesus is saying, you need to build on a rock.

So why would I open this series and this great Sunday celebration with a story about a house falling down?

And it's uh not exactly like the party party message, but here at KCC every September, we start off with great motivation.

And we start off, and I love it, it's a beautiful thing.

Everyone fills the room, everyone has their vision, and uh Jesus even asked you uh, you know, if he was to come here today, he'd be like, you know, what are you building?

You're like your heart's ready for this.

Um, but he would say, What are you gonna build this year on?

What are you gonna build this season on?

And most of the next years of this church's life, and most of the next years in your life is gonna be decided on the things that most people will never see.

And it's gonna be about the foundation, it's gonna be the hole that was dug.

So, 40 plus years ago, someone dug a hole here.

And in 1982, my father, who's the founding pastor of the society, um, started digging the hole.

And let me tell you how glamorous it was.

Our first service was at the OK Corell.

How many of you know about the OK Krell?

Yeah, God sees your hands, okay, we know.

Country Western dancers.

But started at Winnegar's Post House, though, before it was the OK Corral.

And I want you to know how unimpressive it was.

There was no building that we had, no brand, no lighting package, no cushy seats, no stage or instruments this way.

It was a group of people started with like a deep conviction to build a church, and so it started underground.

In 1986, the school opened, 50 students launching an online school later on.

Now we have almost 9,000 students across all of BC.

Yeah, which is great.

Supporting families and raising their kids with Christian education.

But someone in 1994 said, Hey, past uh Brody, would you be interested in like overseeing a youth program?

And I was like, Okay.

So in 1994, I oversaw my first youth pro youth meeting, and it was to about 10 junior highs, and it was fun.

I had a really good time with those junior highs.

I learned a lot about junior highs.

Anyone wants to learn what foundations you've got will be exposed because the storm is called junior highs.

Grade seven to nine, girls, boys, it doesn't matter, they will expose it.

They're like a needle, and you're the balloon, and they're like, How far can we go before he pops?

And that's that's their duty as junior highs.

But somebody dug a hole, and it's the reason we're standing here today.

And I realized that I didn't pour the foundation, but I inherited this foundation, and 40 years later we're standing because someone poured a good foundation.

I'm so grateful for it.

And everyone, and the reason why I say that is that every one of us is building something.

And at KCC, we believe that every individual here is a minister.

It was early on that we said that this ministry is not based on 10 pastors or 10 leaders or 10 ministers.

We believe we have 400 ministers.

Nudge your neighbor and say, You're a minister here today.

You're building something, you're building something.

And I don't know what you're building, but some of you are building a marriage, some of you are building a home, a family, some of you are building a career, some of you are building on your faith, building a business, some of you are building a comeback.

You know, you're coming back, you're building on that.

All of you and all of us are building together.

My role and our role is actually to equip you to do the work of building and equip you to dig and put your and and and share with you and help you find that firm foundation to build upon.

Nobody in here is not building.

The only question you have is what's underneath what you're building?

What are you building your family on?

What are you building your faith on?

What are you building your marriage on?

What are you building your own relationship on, your career, your your job, your your business on?

What are you building it on?

Jesus, uh, in Luke chapter 9, he talks about how he took his 12 disciples and he sent them out.

And then in Luke chapter 10, it says this after this, the Lord appointed 72 others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.

He told them, he said, The harvest is plentiful.

I love that our God is a God of abundance.

He's like, look around you.

The harvest is plentiful, the workers are few.

Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.

So Jesus, he went and he appointed 72 others.

Now, could Jesus have done the ministry on his own?

He could have gone and worked and strove to like continue to spread the message of the gospel that the kingdom of God is here.

The kingdom of God is available to each and every individual.

Instead, he took 12 people and he sent them out.

And then he took another 72 and he sent them out.

And the ministry expanded from one to over 72.

72 plus the 12, 84.

The circle just continued to get wider and wider and wider.

And Jesus designed it like this that the circle gets bigger and bigger as more and more people go out to minister.

So this is the minister's mindset.

This minister's idea of building has got to be first and foremost to assess and evaluate your foundation.

I love the fact that we've got a foundation course actually at KCC that's been uh for a few years now, and I don't know how many people have gone through it.

About 75 people have gone through our foundation class continually building on their life, step by step.

Jesus does not hand anybody an assignment until he's actually spent the time with you to actually build with you and actually to assess that foundation in your life.

Now, I I love the fact that Jesus went with uh with with his disciples.

Um Jesus spent years with his disciples, working with them, and he walked they watched him get interrupted, they watched him get insulted, they watched him get exhausted and tired, they watched how he responded to each of those feelings and experiences, and then he sent them out two by two.

So mentoring here is a huge part of what we want to do.

We want to make sure that each and every individual is getting, uh, is is assessing their foundation and being supported in in building strong foundations.

So, number one, you need to be formed before you're followed.

Mark chapter three says, He appointed 12 that they might be, can you say that, with him, and that he might send them out to preach.

And what's what's interesting about this portion of scripture is that they were with him first before they got sent out.

The process is with him and then sent out, with him and then sent out.

So the the process is first about proximity.

And I'm telling you today that you can't build strong foundations outside of proximity with other people.

You gotta be with one another, you have to be looking eyeball to eyeball, shoulder to shoulder.

You want to build a strong marriage, you can't do it when your wife is far and you're far and on different different ends of the spectrum.

You gotta build together, hand in hand, arm in arm, working together.

And I wanna say this that most of our world is filled with information.

You can listen to a message on your way to church, on your way out of church, when you're training, when you're running, when you're you know getting ready in the morning.

You can be filled with information, but information is not formation.

And content can help you build like really strong walls, but relationships actually help you build the foundation.

You get forgiven when you go to God.

You get healed when you go with one another.

There's a difference.

You can hear a hundred messages and obey none of them.

And still be walking on sand and building on sand.

So who has the permission to step into your life?

Who has permission to actually form you, see you, identify things in you, shape you.

Because you have to be formed first.

Before you start building, before you start being followed, you need to first be formed.

I know in my life there have been men and and women in my life who have helped form me.

And they had the power to speak to me, they had this power to like to challenge me and confront me if necessary.

And they had the right to speak into my heart.

Receiving from someone doesn't make me smaller.

It actually makes my foundation grow deeper.

So who's forming you right now?

Who inspires you?

Who knows you?

And I I would suggest each and every one of us, if you want to start building a strong foundation for your life, start small.

Start with just a coffee.

Start with today going to the food trucks and sitting at a table with someone and sharing your story.

Do you know that church is not a transactional organization?

It's a relational organization.

And through relationship, transformation occurs.

But if you and I come into church and walk out of church, in and out, without there being a relational connection, you'll never see transformation.

Jesus worked with his disciples, he helped them build foundations through relationship.

I love the I love it personally.

I don't always have the time for it immediately, like in people's time.

But when people are saying, hey, I want to grab a coffee with you, I want to connect with you, I'm like, I'm available.

And oftentimes through a connection with me, I'm able to put them onto someone else to say, you really got to get to know so-and-so.

They're much better at this than I am.

They'll help you build a stronger foundation.

And we have great people in our church who understand the values of marriage and inner healing and prayer and actually know what it's like to actually help you move forward in your faith.

Answer your questions, but you need to be connected to someone.

Number two, no one, nobody should dig alone.

Would you say that to your neighbor?

Nobody digs alone.

Nobody digs alone.

It's a lonely place in a hole.

Do you know when you're in a hole, no one sees you?

And you're just like down there by yourself.

It's important that someone is with you in that place.

When you're building that foundation, Jesus sent out 72 others and sent them out strategically.

He sent them out what?

Two by two.

There's a value to this that two people can actually give you courage.

There are things that I would never have done had not been for the peer pressure of one other person.

It's easy to walk away from a cliff looking at the lake down below and go, nah, I'm not gonna jump.

And then there's a point where your buddy's like, you can do it.

And it's like, yeah, I can.

I can do it.

Watch me.

Take it, I'm gonna do it.

It's like there's a power in two.

The scripture says one can send a thousand to flight, but two can send a legion fleeing.

You may have some battles up ahead.

You want to have good people beside you, locked in.

Someone who knows your story, knows your name, knows uh, you know, and can help you debrief uh some of the things you may be going through.

Now, some people think that's just your spouse.

I I would suggest it's not your spouse.

It is and it isn't.

You need someone else.

Men, you need a man in your life.

Women, you need another woman in your life who's able to actually teach you and instruct you.

And men, you need someone in your life who can challenge you and confront you.

Some of you are excellent at carrying things, and I think that it's great when you're actually there and you're carrying, you're able to carry a huge load, but you you reserve your ability to share the load.

A lot of you have really strong shoulders, and you've carried a lot for a long time, but sharing the load makes a big difference.

Thirdly, raise a Timothy.

First Timothy 2 2 says this the first thing, the things you have heard from me, say in the presence of many witnesses, and trust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.

So the ministry mindset begins with this model.

It's like Paul, there were like four generations there.

Paul is communicating to Timothy, who's communicating to faithful people, reliable people, who then are giving out to other people.

And so Paul is looking, was always looking for someone, Timothy, and Timothy was looking for someone, reliable people.

And those reliable people were looking for other people.

So all of us should be looking for someone, sharing with someone.

And it's always interesting to me that it's it's not about performance, it's not about what I have achieved that often becomes a value.

Like uh Paul says to Timothy in uh 1 Timothy 4 12, he says, be an example, be an example, and you think, oh, okay, I gotta be an example that I was able to achieve great performance reviews, or I was able to achieve great uh success in certain areas or achievement.

And Paul says, No, I want you to be an example in your character, in the way you love people, in the way you care for people.

Scripture says, don't let anyone look down on you because you are young.

Set an example for the believers in the way you talk, in your speech, in your conduct, in your love, in your faith, in your purity.

Be that example to other people.

And be the example so that you're raising up other people that are looking at you going, I want to be like them.

Why?

Because there's just something about them.

It's the character, it's the internal capacity, it's the internal competency that God forms in you.

So nobody is exempt from this.

We're constantly giving and putting back.

So Paul tells Timothy, he says, I want to fan the flame that is in you.

And this isn't about like reproducing something in someone else that's like exactly of you.

It's not like Brian creating another Brian.

We love Brian, we don't need more Brians.

We love you, Brian.

You are the one.

You're the one, Brian.

But our role is to actually help other people fan the flame of the gift that's in them.

Because God has a unique design and purpose for each and every one of you.

So we're our job is to get in and help build.

So there are different ways to build, different ways to support, different ways to build on that foundation.

That before there's multiplication in your life, make sure that you're digging down.

Paul said, he said, I you have 10,000 teachers or instructors in Christ, but you have very few fathers.

You need someone who's a father to you.

You know what?

A father has no problem calling you out.

He has no problem looking deep and asking the hard questions.

Why?

Because you're blood.

It matters.

They know your name, they care for you.

They correct you, they give you courage, they want to provide you an inheritance, and they want to make sure that you're set up to be able to support it and not corrupt you.

The parenting mindset really looks at the person, doesn't only see what they can do for the ministry, it sees what they're able to carry in 10 years and say, Am I building like my kids?

I love my kids at like 14 years of age or 18 years of age or 19, 20 years of age.

I I can actually remember how old she is, but 20 years of age.

You thought I didn't know, that's why I was just kind of being loose, but 20 years of age.

My wife laughs because there's a half-truth to that.

I may not.

But 20 years of age, I care for them.

I care for them.

And your best, your best hope is in your is is wanting your kids to succeed.

Imagine if each of us this year stepped into ministry and said, you know what, I'm gonna build foundation in my own life, I'm gonna care for my life, find someone, but I'm also going to help someone else.

And you have a Timothy, in quotes, of your own.

Someone who you're supporting.

And a lot of people they just disqualify themselves right away.

No, I can't do it, I don't know how to do it, I'm not, I'm not good enough yet, I haven't achieved enough yet.

There's always someone, pray that God brings someone into your life who you can pour into, pray that God brings the right person.

Ask the Lord for that, it will make a difference.

If every kid's leader is teaching someone else to see kids the way Jesus does, if every youth leader is teaching someone else to see the value and importance of finding Jesus in your youth, if every greeter knows how important it is to like welcome someone and create a culture of hospitality in the church.

I'm just talking about the church here.

You can have opportunity to serve and to seek out the get the best in God that God has for you.

So we look ahead.

Always be looking ahead.

Whose foundation are you standing on right now?

It's important to just see it.

You look beside you, whose life are you building right now?

You walking with shoulder to shoulder.

And look behind us.

Who have we had in our life who's helped us build to the place where we're at today?

Everybody needs somebody.

Ahead, everyone needs somebody to walk beside, and everyone needs someone who's who's looking backwards and seeing where your life has been affected.

That's the importance.

So if I was to bring this full circle, I would look at the principle of the house.

And if you go back to the two houses, we're preparing a way for Jesus to actually help us build this house, build the ministry.

And the thing that I love about this parable, and I may not have seen previously as much as I saw when I was preparing this, was that the builder who was digging, the scripture says he dug down deep.

It didn't say he laid a foundation of rock.

It says he dug down deep until he hit the rock.

And there's nothing we can do to actually put the foundation in place.

We got to just keep digging until we hit that rock.

Keep digging until the place where God is already installed, God has already put that rock in place, God has already put it in its place for you and I.

And it's hidden, it's underground, so it requires us to work for it a little.

Dig that hole, dig down deep, find that foundation and build on that foundation.

In a year's time, next September, I want us all to be saying, Wow, this is where I was, and this is where I am today.

And I'll tell you, I've gone through storms, but the storms did not take me out.

The storms did not come create a violent crash.

The storms did not obliterate what I had built.

But in fact, I I sustained the storm.

I sustained the rising rivers.

I sustained the sea.

I sustained the wind.

I sustained it because Christ is my firm foundation.

First Corinthians says in chapter 3, verse 11, it says, No one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, who is Christ Jesus.

The first step to ministry is ensuring that your foundation, the first step to building your family, building your business, building your life, building your faith is to find Jesus as your foundation.

And you do that best when you're walking two by two.

You need someone in your life to help you.

Someone in your life who knows you, someone in your life who sees you, and is is motivated through love in their love for you to help you grow.

Let's just bow our heads for a moment.

Just take a moment and let the word of God just set in our soul today.

Set in our spirit.

Thank you, Father.

Would you just thank him for his word today?

Thank you, Lord.

Just activate your soul in gratitude and say, thank you for this word, Lord.

I don't want to just be a hearer of the word.

I want to be a doer of the word.

Father, we know that your hopes and your plans for us are for good towards us, Lord.

You have a future and a purpose for our life.

And Father, for each and every one of us, we are not alone in this building.

You are the master builder and you come and help us.

Father, you are our rock.

You are our firm foundation today.

And we acknowledge you in this place today that we don't want to build on anything else other than you.

Other than you.

Everything else will fail.

Everything else will fall.

Everything else will get swept away.

But Father, when we build on you, we will be sustained.

We will be secure.

And so, Lord, we anchor to you today.

We anchor our life to you today.

Would you help us, Lord?

Help us, Lord, to keep digging, to keep digging deep in our relationship with you, in our relationship with others as we both pursue you.

Lord, keep digging into our relationship so that you would help us, Lord, build our life on that secure foundation in the name of Jesus.

In the name of Jesus.

If you're here today, and just with every eye closed and head bowed, if you're here today and you've never been able to acknowledge that Christ is your foundation, that could that that relationship with Christ, the scripture says that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one can get to the Father except through Him.

But that way to Him is paved with grace, and you are to go boldly into His throne room, boldly to the God and find salvation.

And so if you're here today and you've never acknowledged that need of Jesus, and you've never accepted Jesus in your heart, into your life today, I just want to make him give an opportunity for you, give an invitation to you to accept him today.

Is anyone in the room who has never made that decision before, just raise your hand really nice and tall, really nice and tall today.

Anyone in the room, we don't want to go a step without giving you opportunity to build your life on him.

And he is a co-laborer along with you to build that foundation and build your life.

So, Father, today, thank you, thank you.

Father, today, we thank you, Lord, for open ears and open hearts.

We thank you, Lord, for a life that is leading to a future of hope and good.

We thank you, Lord, that you want us to have that house that's built on the rock and we acknowledge you, Lord, today in this place.

In Jesus' name.
