  1. Thank you for listening to this message from

  2. Lifehouse Church. rock life. Say rock life. Yeah,

  3. rock life. Rock life. If you were in the house

  4. or if you were listening online last week, I

  5. said that phrase over and over multiple times

  6. at the end of the message. And rock life is this.

  7. Rock life is a life that is firmly planted in

  8. Jesus. It is. Rock life are people who are saved

  9. by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

  10. They are people who know in their heart that

  11. they were completely lost and undone without

  12. Jesus, that they were doomed, that they were

  13. condemned, and on our way to hell without Christ.

  14. We know that, and we live on the rock. Amen?

  15. Rock life people are completely aware of the

  16. immeasurable grace that was given to us and the

  17. gift that was given to us at the cross of Jesus

  18. Christ. That sacrificial gift. Rock people know

  19. that rock life is knowing Jesus and it is doing

  20. life just like Jesus said. It's rock life. Rock

  21. life people are people who chase after God. They

  22. know it. They're convinced. They go after them

  23. with everything that's inside of them. And yes,

  24. before you even ask me this after gathering,

  25. I'm going to tell you, yes, I indeed ripped this

  26. off from a Salt Life t -shirt. I got to confess.

  27. How many of you have ever seen a Salt Life t

  28. -shirt? And I'm thinking, well, that's cool,

  29. but that's not as cool as Rock Life. You know,

  30. it's not. How many of you see somebody that's

  31. got our Salt Life t -shirt on? How many of you

  32. have a Salt Life t -shirt, first of all? Okay,

  33. yeah, they're proud. They're like, yeah, it's

  34. me. All right, so here's the thing with Salt

  35. Life people. I can see somebody wearing a Salt

  36. Life t -shirt, and I know what they're all about

  37. before I even talk to them. I don't have to know

  38. them. I don't even have to chat with them. They

  39. love the ocean. Salt Life people, they love the

  40. ocean. They love to get in the ocean. They love

  41. to get on the ocean. Some of them like to sit

  42. just lazily on the beach and stare at the ocean.

  43. They love sailing on the ocean. They love fishing

  44. in the ocean. There's something somewhere along

  45. the way that if they have a Salt Life t -shirt

  46. on, you know what they love. You know that the

  47. ocean is a priority in their life. They will

  48. vacation there. They will buy vacation houses

  49. there. And they will talk and dream about one

  50. day retiring at the beach, right? It's somewhere

  51. near the ocean. It is their jam. It's what they

  52. do. It's their happy place. And all the salt

  53. people said, amen. All right, come on. But rock

  54. life, rock life is that and so much more. So

  55. much more. Rock life people, they love talking

  56. Jesus. They love talking the Bible. They like

  57. talking about church stuff. They love it. They

  58. eat it up. Rock life people, we'll go to the

  59. rock every single time. We'll think about the

  60. rock every single time. We live and breathe and

  61. read about the rock, Christ Jesus. I totally

  62. want to retire in Rock Life Village, right? It's

  63. called heaven. That's where I want to retire

  64. one day. They raise up. We just did it. They

  65. raise up little rock people, right? They do.

  66. They do. They wear the t -shirts. They've got

  67. the bumper sticker. They're toting a Bible with

  68. them where they go. This is Rock Life, people.

  69. This is what we do. And just to say this so you

  70. know, this may or may not be true, and it's probably

  71. most likely true if I have my way, but we've

  72. got church merch coming up soon, and you're going

  73. to see Rock Life on the church merch. Amen? Yeah,

  74. come on, we're going to give glory to him. Yeah,

  75. on the LHC merch. So today, I want you to take

  76. another peek into God's Word and talk about what

  77. Rock Life really looks like. You know, some little

  78. slices of what rock life is all about. So if

  79. you've got your Bibles, you can begin to turn.

  80. We're going to go to John 8, verse 31. We're

    John 8:31

  81. going to read through verses 38, and then we're

  82. going to jump around a little bit inside that

  83. particular portion of Scripture. And while you're

  84. turning, I'm going to pray over the Word. Actually,

  85. I'm going to pray over your ears, hearing the

  86. word. The word's already blessed. And I'm going

  87. to pray over the invitations that are right down

  88. here in front of us, these green balls that are

  89. representing people we're inviting into the kingdom.

  90. Father, we thank you for this day. God, we thank

  91. you that we get the opportunity to come into

  92. your word, Lord, to hear your word. I thank you,

  93. Lord, that we do have life on the rock. And Lord,

  94. I thank you for these invitations that are represented

  95. below me here. God, I pray, Lord, that you would

  96. just go forward, minister, meet them wherever

  97. they're at. God, help us while we're hearing,

  98. Lord, that we're praying for them. those individuals,

  99. and God, that they might come into the kingdom,

  100. they might know you, and God, they might grow

  101. in you, and everybody said together, amen, amen.

  102. John 8, 31 says this, so Jesus said to the Jews

  103. who had believed him, if, say if. How many know

  104. that's a statement that means it could go two

  105. ways, right? This is a conditional word that

  106. Jesus put in there. If you abide in my word,

  107. you are truly my disciples, and you will know

  108. the truth, and the truth will set you free. They

  109. answered him, we are offspring of Abraham, and

  110. they have never yet been enslaved to anyone.

  111. How is it that you say you will become free?

  112. Jesus answered them, truly, truly, I say to you,

  113. everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.

  114. Jesus is speaking to a crowd just outside of

  115. Capernaum somewhere, beside the Sea of Galilee.

  116. And in this particular case, he goes to teach,

  117. and a large crowd shows up. So he gets into a

  118. boat, pushes out to shore, and begins to... Speak

  119. back to them. And as he begins to speak, he tells

  120. them this particular portion of scripture. He

  121. says this to them. And then Jesus, he's speaking

  122. to believers and unbelievers. I'm sorry. At this

  123. point, he's at the temple speaking. And he's

  124. speaking to believers and he's speaking to unbelievers.

  125. alike. In the crowd that he's talking to, he's

  126. talking to both. And in verse 37, he shifts the

  127. conversation and he says, at the beginning, he's

  128. telling them, if you abide in my word, you're

  129. going to be truly my disciples. He's speaking

  130. to them. And then he shifts the conversation

  131. 37. He says, I know that you are offspring of

  132. Abraham, yet you seek to kill me because my word

  133. finds no place in you. I speak of what I've seen

  134. with my father and you do what you've heard from

  135. your father. There's a whole bunch of talk we

  136. could do in this. Jesus is speaking to a people

  137. of believers. It's actually new believers, new

  138. followers of his that have come and converted

  139. and are now following Jesus Christ. And he's

  140. speaking to people who are adamantly against

  141. him in this particular crowd. And he's saying,

  142. if you abide in my word, these are new believers,

  143. words of instructions given to new people. who

  144. have come to faith. Powerful truth right out

  145. of the gate with those who have chosen to follow

  146. him in this moment. And he says, if you abide

  147. in my word, you are truly my disciples. If you

  148. stay, if you remain, if you continue in my words,

  149. then and only then are you an authentic follower

  150. of Jesus Christ, a disciple. This is what Jesus

  151. said. He, if we're serious and we want to follow

  152. Jesus in all of our life, we want to commit,

  153. we want to go all in, right? Because Jesus calls

  154. us for that kind of commitment. It's not ever

  155. a halfway commitment with God. It's all in. Then

  156. you will abide in his word, in his words. Amen.

  157. Period. We will. Another way to put this is,

  158. if you are his, if you know his words, you will

  159. know his rule of life. You will know his decisions.

  160. You will know his recommendations. You will know

  161. his verbiage and his commands. You will understand

  162. the nuances and the cadences, even in the written

  163. word of God, because you will know his word.

  164. Jesus was not just scheduling a new believers

  165. class here, right, the next semester with these

  166. converts. He was giving them, he was taking them

  167. to Jesus school right off the bat. These people

  168. had come, heard him speak, said, Jesus, you are

  169. the Messiah. They believed in who he was. We

  170. are going to follow you. And he didn't say, great,

  171. sign up for a new believer's class that's going

  172. to be taking place next, right? Our semester

  173. is going to start soon, and you can pop in. He

  174. said, no, if you truly follow me, right, you

  175. will hear my words. He's taking them to school.

  176. There's students that are going to abide in his

  177. word, and he wants them to pick up on everything

  178. that he's saying, everything he speaks, everything

  179. he will speak, everything he commands, everything

  180. he encourages, every rule of life. Pay attention

  181. to what I'm saying. My children, my grandchildren,

  182. went back to school this week. They're part of

  183. the Carlisle School District, and they went back

  184. to school. And I wasn't in their classroom because

  185. they don't let me. But big people go. But I can

  186. assure you that once the bell rang and they sat

  187. down in their seats, well, once they got settled,

  188. the teacher probably introduced them. Now, teachers,

  189. you can back me up on this. Teachers probably

  190. introduced themselves, right? Gave their name,

  191. who they were as the teacher. And then they probably

  192. said, now we're going to talk about something

  193. that is my word. How many of us, the class rules?

  194. Yeah, right? They probably started right down.

  195. These are my classroom rules. This is how it's

  196. going to work as you're in here through this

  197. school year. This is what it's going to look

  198. like. The teacher's going to go down through

  199. like, this is going to happen, and this is going

  200. to happen. This isn't going to happen. This isn't

  201. going to happen. This is going to happen. This

  202. isn't going to happen. Right? That's what teachers

  203. do. They go down through. Jesus told these brand

  204. new believers, if you're going to authentically

  205. follow me, you'll abide in my word. You will

  206. live in my word. You will follow my word. If

  207. you're mine, if you're living rock life, it's

  208. all God's word. It's our job to abide in the

  209. word. It's our job to park there. to hang our

  210. hat on what Jesus said, to let it be our guide,

  211. to let it be our creed, to let it be our hearts,

  212. to let it be something that we walk. One of the

  213. defining marks of an authentic Jesus follower

  214. is that they love to abide in God's word. If

  215. somebody talks to me and they tell me they're

  216. following Jesus and they don't really like looking

  217. into God's word at all, I'm like, no, I'm not

  218. the judge. I don't know their heart, right? But

  219. rock life people, we like to hang out there.

  220. Jesus people can't get enough. And if you don't

  221. like to read, you can listen. I listen to God's

  222. word and I read both, right? It's our jam. It's

  223. what we talk about. It's what we mull over. Here

  224. at Lifehouse, we get together and we have group

  225. discussions. about this. Group studies, we call

  226. them life groups. If you're not a part, little

  227. plug right here. If you're not a part, shameless

  228. plug. I'll shameless plug life groups any day

  229. of the week. Sign -ups are taking place right

  230. now. Get in a life group because that's what

  231. they're doing. They get together. It's a bunch

  232. of us rock life people, right? You get in and

  233. you get all giddy. And even if you're not a rock

  234. life person, you can get in anyway. You're going

  235. to get to hear about what God's doing and what

  236. his word's all about. It's why we do Bible in

  237. a year. We talk about Bible recap and doing the

  238. Bible in a year. It's because that's what rock

  239. life people do. If you want to know about the

  240. king, if you want to know about the rock himself,

  241. you get in his word. It's our thing. It's what

  242. we do in the regular. Amen? Come on, it is. It's

  243. part of life. It's part of life. If you're in

  244. the gym, put it on the headphones, cruising down

  245. the road, man, listen to God's word, whether

  246. it's sung, preached, taught. Being just read?

  247. Listen to what he's teaching, what's being preached,

  248. what's being read, what's being sung. Retire

  249. into God's word, truly. Why? Because he said,

  250. abide in the word. It's the standard that's going

  251. to get us through. It is, righteously and in

  252. God's favor. We know that his word holds hope

  253. and future. We know that it becomes my compass,

  254. my guide, my shield, my belt of truth, a lamp

  255. to my feet, and a light to my path. We know that

  256. it's living and powerful. The Word of God tells

  257. us that. We know that the Word of God is a sword

  258. in our hands. We know that it is a GPS if you

  259. are under the age of 50. Say amen. If you're

  260. over the age of 50, it's your map. All right?

  261. I had this message prepared already this week.

  262. And I was talking with a group of young adults

  263. and got in a conversation this week. And somehow

  264. they got on the topic of talking about GPS and

  265. maps. And they're like, I don't know how those

  266. people used to read those maps. I don't know

  267. how they got where they were going. How in the

  268. world did they find the street they were going

  269. to? And I was thinking to myself, I didn't comment,

  270. but I was thinking to myself, well, most of the

  271. time we did find our way there. We just wasted

  272. a lot more gas and we had a lot more arguments

  273. with our spouse. That was the only difference,

  274. right? It's true. Jesus said, if you are really

  275. mine, you'll abide in my word, man. Turn to somebody

  276. right now, turn to your neighbor, tell them life

  277. on the rock is life in the word. Tell them that

  278. right now, just declare it. Life on the rock

  279. is life in the word. Preach to them just for

  280. a minute. Life on the rock, right, is life in

  281. the word. And it cannot be a casual pursuit.

  282. It can't be a once a week thing where you pick

  283. up your Bible, go to church, throw it back down

  284. on the coffee table when you get back, and pick

  285. it back up seven days later. seven days later.

  286. Jesus left heaven and earth to come and give

  287. us his word. He declares in Matthew 24 and 35,

  288. heaven and earth will pass away, but my word

  289. will by no means pass away. Everything around

  290. us one day is going to melt into nothing. Take

  291. a look around you. Buildings, houses, stuff,

  292. it's all going by the wayside. It's going to

  293. be dust. It's going to be chaff. It's going to

  294. be gonzo. That's my word, right? It's going to

  295. be a distant memory. But his word will not pass

  296. away. Get your head around that. Understand that.

  297. Park yourself squarely. And this morning, for

  298. the rest of this message, I want to give you

  299. just one example of why Jesus said that. authentic

  300. Jesus followers stay in his word. I want to give

  301. you one illustration out of God's word, because

  302. Jesus knew we would need the word of God to navigate

  303. all of life. He knew it. To navigate it successfully,

  304. to have peace in your heart, to have hope in

  305. your life, you're going to need it. And in one

  306. small teaching, I got this backwards. Jesus was

  307. teaching in the temple, the first scripture.

  308. Now he's by the Sea of Galilee. Thank you for

  309. being patient with my geography mess up. All

  310. right. But in one small teaching by the Sea of

  311. Galilee, right outside of Capernaum is where

  312. this takes place. And this is where he pushed

  313. out in the boat and he's looking back at the

  314. shore. Jesus speaks this parable in Matthew 13,

  315. 24. He says another parable he put forth to them

  316. saying, the kingdom of heaven is like. Now, anytime

  317. you see in God's word, the kingdom of heaven

  318. is like, pay attention. Pay attention. It's like

  319. a man who sowed good seed in his field, but while

  320. men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among

  321. the wheat and went his way. But when the grain

  322. had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares

  323. also appeared. So the servants of the owner came

  324. and said to him, sir, did you not sow good seed

  325. in your field? How then does it have tares? He

  326. said to them, an enemy has done this. The servants

  327. said to him, do you want us then to go and gather

  328. them up? But he said, no, lest while you gather

  329. up the tares, you also uproot the wheat with

  330. them. Let both grow together until the harvest.

  331. And at the time of harvest, I will say to the

  332. reapers, first gather together the tares and

  333. bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather

  334. the wheat into my barn. Jesus was telling a story.

  335. And he's talking about seed, and he's talking

  336. about a field, and he's not really just kind

  337. of trying to have an illustration or a lesson

  338. in gardening, right? Jesus says, while the owner

  339. of a field is sleeping, his enemy sneaks into

  340. the field that he planted with wheat, and he

  341. plants tares. Now, if you don't know what tares

  342. are, that's a type of weed. all right? W -E -E

  343. -D, weed. And the enemy came in and planted tares

  344. amongst the wheat. Now, you might be thinking,

  345. well, why in the world would somebody do this,

  346. right? That sounds like craziness. What would

  347. you do? Why would that be the plot of an enemy

  348. to go out and do this? Sounds like a strange

  349. thing, right? The answer is to sabotage the enemy's

  350. food supply was the idea. ruin their crops, to

  351. choke out and overtake the wheat crop with the

  352. tares, with the weeds, to destroy the harvest.

  353. How many know that starving your enemy causes

  354. them to be just as dead as stabbing your enemy?

  355. Right? That's what this was. This would take

  356. place back in that time. They would come in and

  357. try to starve out their enemy. And some of you

  358. are thinking, well, wouldn't the farmer notice,

  359. right? Because some of you are gardeners in this

  360. place. Some of you might be farmers. And you'd

  361. be like, well, if they planted wheat in the field,

  362. wouldn't the farmer begin to notice, like when

  363. it started to grow, that this is wheat and this

  364. is tares? And wouldn't he just go around and

  365. just weed the garden? Because that's what we

  366. do in Pennsylvania. We weed the garden. We figure

  367. out what's crop and what's wheat, and we weed

  368. that thing, right? But here's the thing with

  369. tares. Tares, when they begin to grow, look just

  370. like wheat. when they begin to grow. That's why

  371. the enemy would use it. And by the time it grew

  372. high enough to recognize and to identify, it

  373. had already interweaved. The roots had already

  374. interweaved with the wheat. And that's why in

  375. this parable, the servant goes and says to the

  376. owner, do you want me to go and tear out the

  377. tears? I can go pull all those out. And the owner

  378. says, no, because if you pull up the tears, you're

  379. going to uproot the wheat with it. You're going

  380. to pull them up. And what was Jesus saying here?

  381. This was not farming advice. That's not what

  382. he was after here. What was he teaching those

  383. who are listening, right? What was he teaching

  384. rock life people, the followers of Jesus? What

  385. was he trying to say? He was giving them a broad

  386. overview, a broad perspective of what was happening

  387. then and what is happening now in our society.

  388. In the word of God, it shows us. He shows, and

  389. there's so many valuable things here, but he

  390. begins to explain this to his disciples. He virtually

  391. comes back and explains it. I'm going to read

  392. that. Matthew 13, 36, it says, then Jesus sent

  393. the multitude away and went into the house, and

  394. his disciples came to him saying, explain to

  395. us the parable of the tares of the field. He

  396. answered and said to them, he who sowed the good

  397. seed is the son of man. The field is the world,

  398. and the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom,

  399. rock life people. But the tares are the sons

  400. of the wicked. The wicked one, the enemy who

  401. sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end

  402. of the age and the reapers are the angels. Therefore,

  403. as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire,

  404. so it will be at the end of the age. The son

  405. of man will send out his angels and they will

  406. gather out of the kingdom all things that offend

  407. and those who practice lawlessness and will cast

  408. them into the furnace of fire. There will be

  409. wailing and gnashing of teeth and the righteous

  410. will shine forth as the son in the kingdom of

  411. the father. He who has ears, let him hear. That's

  412. what Jesus said. What does this explain? There's

  413. a lot here, but what does this explain? Why do

  414. rock life people maybe get a little excited as

  415. they read this? Because Jesus' parable explains

  416. what's happening in the world around us right

  417. now. Right now. He lets me know what's going

  418. on back then, and it's still happening today.

  419. And you might be going like, oh, it's all starting

  420. to make sense now. I understand. What I'm seeing

  421. in the news. I understand what's taking place

  422. in my country, state, and city, or maybe even

  423. in my own family, right? I understand what's

  424. happening in my neighborhood currently. I understand

  425. what happens with all of humanity. In this field

  426. of life, the owner said, there's going to be

  427. wheat, and there's going to be tares, and they're

  428. going to be coming up together. They're going

  429. to be the rock life people who are following

  430. Jesus Christ, and they're going to be those,

  431. even those who are in evil, coming up together.

  432. It'll be the redeemed, and it'll be the tares

  433. in the same field growing up together. And some

  434. of you are like, well, no kidding, right? Isn't

  435. that kind of obvious? Ah, not as obvious as you

  436. might think, honestly. I don't know if you've

  437. ever... I don't know if you've ever met a rock

  438. life person, a Jesus follower, who declares to

  439. you that the entire world is going to hell in

  440. a handbasket. Anybody ever meet somebody like

  441. that? Come on. They'll declare up and down, right,

  442. that the whole world is going to hell in a handbasket.

  443. They'll probably talk like they're the only ones

  444. that are actually going to make it, right? Everything's

  445. awful. Everything's doomed. Everything's fear.

  446. There's fear in their lives with everything that's

  447. going on. They're like the writer of Ecclesiastes.

  448. Vanity, vanity, vanity. The whole world's vanity,

  449. right? It's doomed. It's over with. And anxiety

  450. begins to rise within them. This is why I don't

  451. overwatch the news. I like the news. I'm an old

  452. guy. Old guys like the news. right? I like the

  453. news, but I don't overwatch it. You know why?

  454. Because they focus on evil. They focus on tares

  455. all the time. You know why? Because tares sell,

  456. right? Everybody likes, I don't know what it

  457. is with humanity, but we like to watch a train

  458. wreck. I don't know what it is. We all like to

  459. watch a train wreck. We do. Whether it's in human

  460. form or some other form. And they'll dwell on

  461. that. And if you stare at that thing too long,

  462. if you spend your life in the field of life and

  463. all you ever do is look at the tears, you're

  464. going to get messed up in your spirit. You're

  465. going to get messed up in your head. You're going

  466. to get gloom and doom. You're going to think

  467. it's all over with and it's all just going to

  468. blow apart and nothing's ever. Come on, it's

  469. true. And you can get to the other end of that

  470. whole deal, right? You can get to the other end

  471. of that deal. I don't know if you ever met a

  472. Christian on the other side of that, right? Where

  473. they, oh, it's all sunshine all the time. You

  474. know what I mean? You'll get the Christian who

  475. builds their own little wheat field just around

  476. them so they can't see any of the tares. Just

  477. get around enough wheat, all right? Make sure

  478. I don't see the tares. Make sure I don't go out

  479. among the tares. Make sure I don't get out in

  480. my, just put all the wheat right around me so

  481. I can't see anything else. Like, ah, everything's,

  482. do you ever meet somebody like that? And you

  483. tell them about the evil, and they're like, la,

  484. la, la, la, la, la, la. They don't want to hear

  485. it. They don't want to come to the reality of

  486. what they're in. Jesus is saying, to keep you

  487. out of discouragement, to keep you from getting

  488. too depressed, to keep you out of being paranoid

  489. or anxiety -ridden or mind just consumed one

  490. way or the other, he says you're going to grow

  491. up together. It's going to happen. This is the

  492. world you have. This is not going to change,

  493. folks. Jesus said so. Not until the end. He said,

  494. one day at the end, I will sort it all out. One

  495. day at the end, I will come in and I will separate

  496. the wheat and the tares. You can go to another

  497. place. Jesus talks about the goats and the sheep.

  498. It's both. He's going to separate it all out.

  499. He's the judge. That's what the Word of God says.

  500. I am not. My job is just to be the wheat. My

  501. job is just to keep being we. Just keep following

  502. Jesus. Matter of fact, my job is to help pull

  503. people from the flames. All right. It's to tell

  504. somebody else about Jesus Christ and help pull

  505. them from the flames. Make sure they don't end

  506. up at the end being a tear. Make sure they don't

  507. make it. The judgment's not going to be their

  508. end. Right. I live life to the fullest in the

  509. field. I have the realization that I am saved

  510. and I am whole and I love God's word. And he

  511. lifts me up. But I am also very aware of the

  512. evil that's taking place. I commune with the

  513. wheat. Right. The rock life people. And I make

  514. sure I'm aware. of the tares. This is in the

  515. word of God. One little parable. It's awesome.

  516. I love, I don't know about you, I hate when I

  517. don't know what's going on. I hate it. I like

  518. to know what's going on. I like to know how things

  519. work. I want to know how things work. Worship

  520. team, if you'd come. Jesus said, this is why

  521. we love the word of God so much. I have a full

  522. view of what's happening around me because of

  523. his word. One parable. That's just one little

  524. piece of God's word. One little thing that Jesus

  525. spoke. And you don't have to look very far in

  526. God's word to see it, right? It was true in Jesus'

  527. closest community. He had 12 disciples, 12 men

  528. that he worked with and spoke with and trained,

  529. right? Peter, Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew,

  530. Thomas, Matthew, James, Thaddeus, Simon, and

  531. Judas Iscariot. These were 12 men that he handpicked,

  532. 12 that he mentored, 12 that he raised up to

  533. share the gospel actually in all the world. He

  534. walked with them for years. He talked with them.

  535. He ate with them. He broke bread with them and

  536. their families. These were Jesus' people, if

  537. there ever were Jesus' people, on the face of

  538. the earth. Yet Satan would come and fill the

  539. heart of one of these individuals, Judas. That's

  540. what the Word of God says. And he would completely

  541. reject and betray Jesus. He'd be a terror. The

  542. crazy thing is, if you look at the story around

  543. the crucifixion, All 12 disciples deny Jesus.

  544. The night of the crucifixion, when he goes and

  545. he's arrested, all of them scatter. Peter, right

  546. before this, Peter's like, I'll never deny you,

  547. Jesus. We do this. He's, I'll never deny you.

  548. I'll follow you to the death. He literally says

  549. this. I'm paraphrasing, of course. And Jesus

  550. said, before the night's over, Peter, you're

  551. going to deny me three times. And a servant girl.

  552. A servant girl questions him, and he denies and

  553. curses God because of the pressure when Jesus

  554. was arrested. All 12 of them, right, deny Christ.

  555. But there was only one that Satan filled his

  556. heart. Jesus never holds it. When Jesus raises

  557. from the grave, he never holds it against the

  558. disciples. As a matter of fact, he comes back

  559. and speaks to them. He commissions them to go

  560. and share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Tears come

  561. up among wheat. It's true. Even in his community,

  562. if you'd stand. God's word gives us a right perspective

  563. on what's happening around us. Rock life people

  564. love God's word. I can't even begin. I could

  565. just keep you here for hours. I cannot even begin

  566. to tell you the truth that came to life in my

  567. own life as I've gone through God's Word. I can't

  568. even explain how it has straightened up my head

  569. and my heart in so many ways. So many ways. We

  570. love it. Your job is to be wheat, to be a witness

  571. for Jesus Christ. To celebrate redemption in

  572. him. To pull others from the flame. To witness

  573. of God's mighty power. To be aware of the tares.

  574. Be aware of the tares. His word is awesome. It's

  575. awesome. So as you bow your heads this morning,

  576. I'm going to ask two questions. The first one

  577. is this. Do you love Jesus? Do you follow Jesus?

  578. And do you want life on the rock? Now, I'm talking

  579. to individuals here who've never committed their

  580. lives. Maybe you're listening online. You've

  581. never committed your life to Jesus. You've heard

  582. about life on the rock, but today you want to

  583. make a commitment to do that. You want to know

  584. the amazing saving grace of Jesus Christ. If

  585. that's you in the house, I want you to do one

  586. thing, and here's all I'm going to ask you to

  587. do. I'll tell you ahead of time, I'm not going

  588. to pull you out, not going to make you walk down

  589. front, not going to make you do any of those

  590. things. Here's the only thing you'll have to

  591. do just to acknowledge between you and God and

  592. me, that you're lifting your hand saying, I want

  593. to come into the kingdom today. I want to live

  594. life on the rock. Thank you. Thank you for those

  595. hands. Here's all you have to do in prayer, and

  596. I'm going to pray this with you. Lord Jesus,

  597. I ask you to come into my life right now. I ask,

  598. Lord, that you would save me from my sin. And

  599. Lord, that my life would be in you on the rock.

  600. Lord, I thank you. I know I'm far from God, but

  601. I ask to come near today. I know it's through

  602. Jesus that I have life now. And I ask you to

  603. come into my life in Jesus' name. Forgive me

  604. of everything that has separated me from you,

  605. the sin of my life. In Jesus' name I pray. And

  606. amen and amen. Thank you. Can you give a hand

  607. for three? Greatest decision you'll ever make

  608. in your life. Now I'm going to get you by your

  609. heads. I'm going to deal with the rest of you

  610. now. Close your eyes one more time. Thank you,

  611. Lord. Thank you, Lord. Next question. Do you

  612. love God's word? Do you abide in it? Do you abide

  613. in it? There is no greater thing I will ever

  614. be able to do as a pastor than to point you to

  615. God's Word and the Holy Spirit who reveals God's

  616. Word in you. I could talk and preach to you for

  617. the next three years straight, visit your home

  618. and talk to you, and it will never be the same

  619. as you getting into God's Word. and letting the

  620. Holy Spirit speak to you. Father, I come in the

  621. matchless name of Jesus. For every heart that's

  622. in this house, Lord, and this is between the

  623. saints and you. Lord God, they got to answer

  624. for themselves. Do I abide in the word? Do I

  625. abide in the word? Jesus, you said, if you are

  626. my disciple, if you are truly, truly my disciple,

  627. an authentic disciple, an authentic follower

  628. of Jesus, you will abide in my word. That's what

  629. you said, Jesus. Lord, I pray for every person

  630. in the house. God, that we ask ourselves the

  631. question, am I abiding? Am I hanging out in your

  632. word? Am I letting it soak into my life? Lord,

  633. I know. God, I know this, that if they do, God,

  634. it is a sword in their life. God, it is something.

  635. Lord, when the enemy comes, they have something

  636. to defend with. Lord, to actually, Lord, take

  637. the enemy down. God, I know this, Lord, that

  638. it is protection. I know that it is truth. I

  639. know that it sets people free. God, I know that

  640. it redeems. I know all these things. It's so

  641. much more. God, I pray that we abide. This is

  642. rock life. This is rock life. We abide in your

  643. word. I pray, God, if there's one in the house,

  644. maybe this morning, right now, maybe they're

  645. feeling the conviction to read the Bible through

  646. in a year. Lord, we'll help them with that. They

  647. can start today. They don't need to wait till

  648. January 1. They don't need to start another time.

  649. It can start today. It can start tomorrow morning.

  650. Lord, I pray, God, speak into their spirit. God,

  651. give them conviction in this. Lord, let them

  652. make a commitment. It'll be the greatest thing

  653. they ever do. Lord, other than asking you into

  654. their spirit and into their heart and their life

  655. as Savior, God, it'll be so important. Lord,

  656. I thank you and I give you praise in Jesus' name.

  657. And amen, and amen, amen. It was not, I grew

  658. up in the church, it was not until I dove into

  659. God's word. Used to just listen, didn't pay much

  660. attention to it, not gonna lie. Grew up as a

  661. teenager, not really reading the Bible much,

  662. like just coasting through doing the church thing.

  663. But it was not until I got into God's word that

  664. my life changed, changed. Amen. Thank you for

  665. tuning in to this message from Lifehouse Church.
