  1. Christ. Amen. Amen. I want to look back at verse 27. The Bible says, And the Lord said,

  2. And the Moses write thou these words. For after the tenor of these words, I have made a covenant

  3. with thee and with Israel. And he was there with the Lord 40 days and 40 nights. He did

  4. neither eat bread nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant,

  5. the 10 commandments. And it came to pass when Moses came down from outside. And I

  6. with the two tablets or tables of testimony in Moses' hand. When he came down from the

  7. Mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.

  8. So this is in a setting where Moses has taken the children of Israel out of Egypt. And

  9. they've come on to Mount Sinai or Mount Horeb. And this is where they are to

  10. sacrifice unto the Lord as this is the whole point of why they were leaving

  11. Egypt. They were leaving Egypt to sacrifice unto the Lord and serve God. And Moses kind

  12. of leaves the whole congregation and goes up unto this Mount, speaks and communes with

  13. God. God gives him the 10 commandments. But in the process of doing so, the children

  14. of Israel decide to ask Aaron, Hey, we don't know what happened to Moses. Will you

  15. go ahead and just make us a golden calf or make us a God? And Aaron's like, All

  16. right, give me all your gold. He takes the gold, throws it into the fire and

  17. out comes this calf, as Aaron describes this. And God tells Moses, he says, Hey,

  18. they've corrupted themselves. They're going after other gods. You need to go down

  19. there. And Moses goes down there. And in his first journey down, he ends up

  20. breaking the 10 commandments. He basically breaks the two tables of

  21. stone. And he just gets really mad at, of course, the children of Israel. And

  22. even though he's mad at them, he just, he advocated to God to not kill them, to

  23. not destroy them all. And so he kind of like an intercessor. And what's cool

  24. about this, this whole story that seems kind of crazy is how it's a gospel

  25. story, because Moses is picturing how Jesus Christ came the first time. And

  26. of course, the law being broken is kind of a picture of how Jesus Christ is

  27. going to take the punishment, the penalty for our sins. And of course, he

  28. ends up destroying that golden calf. He's throws it into the water and makes

  29. them drink it and stuff like that. But then he ascends back up. And so you kind

  30. of have this first encounter with Moses is kind of like the first appearing

  31. of the Lord Jesus Christ. And there's foreshadowing a lot of things about

  32. Christ. In X is 34, we're reading about the second time that Moses is

  33. writing the 10 commandments. And he's going to come back down to the

  34. children of Israel, but now his face is shining. And of course, that's the

  35. symbol, the fact that when Jesus Christ returns, that he's going to be in

  36. glory and that he's going to be in brightness. But, but notice he comes

  37. back with the 10 commandments. He didn't like, it's not like, Oh, the

  38. 10 commandments don't matter anymore. No, the 10 commandments still matter.

  39. And Christ is coming with them. And so, you know, we have a lot of

  40. different things that we could talk about from the symbolism here. But

  41. we also should just talk about like what's going on with Moses

  42. specifically as a person. So there's a lot of cool spiritual metaphors

  43. here and symbolism and foreshadowing of the gospel message, but also with

  44. Moses himself that spending time with God through God's word. Notice in

  45. verse 27 again, write down these words like he's dealing with the word

  46. of God directly. It causes his face to shine brightly. And what we

  47. understand from a Christian perspective is that we are going to shine

  48. brightly when we are exposing ourselves to the words of God. It's the

  49. words of God that are going to cause us to shine brightly in this

  50. world. And that's what ends up cleaning us up. And that's what

  51. causes us to have the brightness of the Lord. Of course, the Bible

  52. tells us that God also passed by Moses and that Moses saw his

  53. back parts. And I believe that that is literal. I believe that

  54. God really did show himself unto Moses and that Moses really did get

  55. put in the cleft of the rock and that God really did put his hand over

  56. Moses face and the Moses really did see his back parts. Whereas some

  57. crazy people just be like, it's all a metaphor. And I'm like, look,

  58. I get that this whole scene has metaphors and I get that this

  59. has symbolism and I understand this prophecy of the Lord Jesus

  60. Christ. But if it has that, then you need to explain to me

  61. what it is. And the problem is they can't explain what that

  62. actually means because it's not a metaphor. It's just literal. God

  63. showed up. He appeared unto Moses. Moses really did see him.

  64. Moses really did experience him. And again, that's partly why

  65. his face is shining is he's experiencing God in person. He's

  66. experiencing God through the Word of God. And for us, we're

  67. never going to see God the Father, you know, on this side of

  68. our equation, you know, until we get to heaven, we're not

  69. going to have that particular experience. But we can still see

  70. God and experience God through the Word of God. And while our

  71. face will never shine physically, like some kind of a moon

  72. reflecting the sun type of experience, we can still shine

  73. in a spiritual way and a metaphoric way like Moses was

  74. shining here. And Moses is shining because of the Word of

  75. God because of the Bible. And that's what causes its

  76. brilliance. Brilliance is a word for just basically how

  77. vibrant or how strong the glory is of a light or how bright the

  78. light is. And so Moses is shining so brightly that according

  79. to the text, when he comes back down, people can't even look

  80. at him. It says in verse 30, and when Aaron and all the

  81. children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face

  82. shown and they were afraid to come nigh him. And Moses

  83. called unto them and Aaron and all the rulers of the

  84. congregation returned to him and Moses talked with them. And

  85. afterward, all the children of Israel came nigh and he gave

  86. them in commandment all the Lord had spoken with him in

  87. Mount Sinai until Moses had done speaking with them. He put a

  88. veil on his face. But when Moses went in before the Lord

  89. to speak with him, he took the veil off until he came out

  90. and he came out and speaking to the children of

  91. Israel, that which he was commanded and the children

  92. of Israel saw the face of Moses that the skin of Moses

  93. face shown and Moses put the veil upon his face again until

  94. he went in to speak with him. You know, it's funny, like

  95. Moses, according to the Bible, it's real explicit. Like his

  96. skin is shining. It's like, why would his skin be shining

  97. because he, quote, saw a metaphor? You know, it makes

  98. sense that he actually saw God. And that's why his face

  99. is shining because of the brightness and brilliance

  100. of having seen God. And of course, it's a unique

  101. experience. Now, God makes it abundantly clear. No man

  102. shall see his face and live. No one is seeing God the

  103. Father's face save Jesus Christ, which was in the

  104. bosom of the Father. So nobody has been able to see

  105. God the Father's face yet. And I believe the Bible is

  106. basically explaining to us through the entire Bible

  107. that it's because we couldn't handle it. Like if we

  108. were to see such a thing, we would just die. And

  109. that's not the point of this part of our creation.

  110. This is not the point of our stories. This is all

  111. die. Right? God the Father could just reveal his face

  112. to the whole world and we would just all die. Well,

  113. then what's the point in that? You know, and you kind

  114. of wonder like, does that have something to do with

  115. the fact that we have to have faith, right? You

  116. have to have faith to be born again. And then

  117. those that are born again, one day we'll see the

  118. Father's face and live. But if God the Father

  119. just showed his face to us, we could not live,

  120. we could not survive, could not handle it. And

  121. an example of we have this in our world is the

  122. sun. Like I get that you could technically look

  123. at the sun for a very brief moment. But let's be

  124. honest, you can't really handle just looking

  125. directly at the sun. It's so brilliant. It's so

  126. bright. It's very difficult to look directly at

  127. it. And a lot of times people need to do special

  128. glasses or to see it through a photograph or a

  129. video or they're just crazy and they want to

  130. hurt their eyes or something. And so they're

  131. just trying to look real quick. But, you

  132. know, we experience a bright light, so bright

  133. that you can hardly even look at it. And it's the

  134. sun, which interestingly enough, we have tons

  135. of lights in this world. It's like the sun seems

  136. to be the brightest. It's not even the closest.

  137. But God is even more brilliant than the sun

  138. himself. And that the sun, while it has its

  139. brilliance, if we were to look at God, it would

  140. be so bright. It'd be so magnificent. It'd be

  141. something that we just could not handle. And

  142. so, of course, God shields himself from us

  143. being just slaughtered through his own

  144. brilliance in the same way that Moses is

  145. shielding himself so that people aren't just

  146. blinded by his light. And, you know, here's

  147. something that's really annoying me, annoys me

  148. when people shine a bright light in your face.

  149. You know, it used to be when I was in like

  150. junior high high school. I don't know that

  151. there's this interesting phenomenon. I think

  152. it says it kind of came out. It's called

  153. laser pointers. Who knows what I'm talking

  154. about? Like laser pointers became like a rage

  155. when I was in school. But some people were

  156. using this to try and like blind people.

  157. Like they would, they would do it at people's

  158. eyes and try to like cause them damage or

  159. try to harm them. You know, and especially

  160. if you're driving in a vehicle or doing

  161. something like this, it's a really dangerous,

  162. really hazardous vehicles have what's

  163. called bright lights. So usually if you

  164. push the thing forward, it's not just the

  165. headlights. It's like an extra bright. You

  166. know, it's kind of a rude, jerky

  167. thing to have your brights on when you're

  168. passing other vehicles because a lot of

  169. times they can't see. And you know, I

  170. experienced that in Barbados. So I'll

  171. just be honest. All right. You're driving

  172. at night and it's like they would turn

  173. their brights off as soon as I passed

  174. them. And I was like, well, thank you.

  175. Thanks for doing that. It's like, it's

  176. like bright. You're like, you can't see

  177. and then just like right before you're

  178. about to pass them, they'd flick them

  179. off and you'd be like, oh, thanks for

  180. that. But, you know, it's not very

  181. fun to be driving and all of a sudden

  182. just be blinded by someone's bright

  183. lights or some kind of a light.

  184. You know, that's why in the car, you

  185. don't want to have a bunch of lights on

  186. at night inside the vehicle because it

  187. makes visibility, you know, difficult.

  188. It makes you hard to see outside of

  189. the car. And so, you know, these

  190. things that we experience in our real

  191. life are to be representative of

  192. what this world is like and what the

  193. gospel is like and what the Bible is

  194. trying to explain. Now, I want to

  195. go to another passage, go to Second

  196. Corinthians, chapter number four, Second

  197. Corinthians, chapter number four and

  198. let's kind of compare because the New

  199. Testament talks about this story in

  200. Second Corinthians, chapter number four

  201. and gives us some explanation of

  202. what was going on in that particular

  203. passage. You know, when we're

  204. trying to figure out what the Old

  205. Testament meant or when we're trying

  206. to figure out what the symbolism is

  207. or what the prophecy was of an Old

  208. Testament passage, you know it's the

  209. safest way to figure out if you're

  210. right. The New Testament just tells you

  211. exactly what it was. You know, it's

  212. funny to me, like, people try to come

  213. up to me a lot of times and try to

  214. tell me about the symbolism in the

  215. Old Testament and, you know, I think

  216. that occasionally sometimes people are

  217. a little overzealous in what they're

  218. trying to figure out in the text, but

  219. let me just give you a tip of where

  220. you can always be safe. When the New

  221. Testament just tells you exactly what

  222. the symbolism was, you're on really

  223. safe ground of that's what it really

  224. meant. And, you know, we should

  225. probably prioritize the symbolism that

  226. the New Testament actually gives you

  227. over just your crazy idea. And, you

  228. know, if you can't come up with your

  229. doctrine anywhere else in the Bible

  230. other than your just speculation in

  231. the symbolism, it's probably not very

  232. safe. If it's taught everywhere

  233. else in the Bible, it's probably

  234. pretty safe, okay? So, you know,

  235. just some tips on finding prophecy in

  236. the Bible, but here in 2nd Corinthians

  237. chapter four, it just tells

  238. explicitly what was going on in this

  239. story. Look what it says here in

  240. verse number, let's just get a little

  241. bit of context. Look what it says here

  242. in verse number six, who also have

  243. made us able ministers of the New

  244. Testament, not of the letter, but of

  245. the Spirit for the letter killeth, but

  246. the Spirit give it life, but of

  247. the ministration of death written in

  248. engraving and stones was glorious

  249. so that the children of Israel could

  250. not steadfastly behold the face of

  251. Moses for the glory of his

  252. countenance, which glory was to be

  253. done away. How shall not the

  254. ministration of the Spirit be

  255. rather glorious? So, in this

  256. epistle, the Apostle Paul is trying

  257. to explain to the Corinthians that

  258. whenever Moses was given this job,

  259. this service of God, this ministry

  260. of God of the Old Testament, that

  261. it was such an awesome thing that

  262. it was so glorious that his face

  263. literally shown having received

  264. the Ten Commandments, having received

  265. the Old Testament law, having

  266. received the tables of stone from God

  267. and that his face shown so brightly

  268. that the children of Israel couldn't

  269. even look at him. And it's saying

  270. if that is how glorious the Old

  271. Testament was, and it's going to be

  272. done away with, he's saying if the

  273. Old Testament was to even be done

  274. away with, it wasn't even a

  275. permanent thing, it wasn't even an

  276. everlasting thing, then how much

  277. more should this new ministry,

  278. this new service of God, this

  279. new Testament be in glory

  280. than the Old Testament?

  281. In a sense, it should outshine

  282. this Old Testament. It should be

  283. more glorious. It should be more

  284. brilliant because it's not

  285. only, you know, coming on the

  286. heels of some such a thing, it's

  287. not only delivered by a better

  288. person than Moses, Jesus, but

  289. it's also an everlasting

  290. Testament. It's an everlasting

  291. gospel is what the Bible is

  292. teaching us. And so it should

  293. be more glorious.

  294. In verse nine, for if the

  295. ministration of condemnation be

  296. glory, much more

  297. that the ministration of

  298. righteousness exceed in glory.

  299. For even that, which was made

  300. glorious, had no glory in this

  301. respect by reason of the glory

  302. that excelleth.

  303. Now, what does it mean in

  304. verse 10 when it said

  305. that it had no glory

  306. in this respect?

  307. What that means is, is that

  308. the Old Testament law had no

  309. glory and getting anyone saved.

  310. No one got saved by the Old

  311. Testament. No one got saved

  312. by following the law.

  313. There was never a dispensation

  314. where people were saved by

  315. faith and works.

  316. There will never be a

  317. dispensation where people are

  318. saved by faith and works.

  319. Salvation is only ever been

  320. by faith in Jesus Christ.

  321. And so even though the Old

  322. Testament was glorious, it had

  323. no glory in respect of

  324. salvation. It had no glory in

  325. respect of taking someone to

  326. heaven. All it did was point to

  327. salvation. All it did was point

  328. us to the one that could save

  329. us and point to the fact that

  330. we can't be saved by our works

  331. to point to the failure of

  332. humanity. Because obviously the

  333. law is good. The law is

  334. spiritual, but I am carnal.

  335. And what the law proves to me

  336. is that I am carnal.

  337. And what it proves to me is I

  338. am flesh. And what it proves to

  339. me is that the flesh is weak.

  340. And what it proves is that I

  341. cannot be saved because my

  342. flesh isn't good enough to get

  343. to heaven for all of sinned

  344. and come short of the glory of

  345. God. And that's what the law

  346. proves beyond a shadow of a

  347. doubt. But it never saved

  348. anyone. It doesn't it doesn't

  349. do anything but explain to us

  350. that we need salvation.

  351. And of course that's why the

  352. second Testament is the

  353. better Testament. That's why

  354. it has more glory. That's why

  355. we appeal to the Gospel

  356. because that's what actually

  357. saves us. He says in verse

  358. 12, seeing then that we have

  359. such hope, we use great

  360. plainness of speech. So we

  361. have the hope of the Gospel

  362. and not as Moses, which put

  363. a veil over his face that the

  364. children of Israel could not

  365. steadfastly look to the end

  366. of that which is abolished.

  367. Now the Old Testament is

  368. abolished. I mean, this is

  369. what the Bible says. If the

  370. Old Testament is not

  371. abolished, then what is

  372. abolished? I mean, something

  373. was abolished. I mean, he

  374. brought up something's

  375. abolished. And notice it is

  376. abolished. It's not like

  377. about to be abolished. It's

  378. already been abolished. But

  379. their minds are blinded for

  380. until this day your man of

  381. the same veil and taken

  382. away in the reading of the

  383. Old Testament, which veil

  384. is done away in Christ.

  385. Notice that the veil is

  386. taken away in Christ. You can

  387. understand the Old

  388. Testament when you get

  389. saved. Now, I would say

  390. this, understand by

  391. meaning the big point.

  392. Understand by meaning what

  393. it takes to be saved.

  394. Understand by meaning what

  395. the spiritual meaning of

  396. the text was. Everyone can

  397. understand the carnal

  398. truths found in the Old

  399. Testament. Everyone can

  400. understand the facts of the

  401. Old Testament. Everyone can

  402. understand the history of the

  403. Old Testament. But there

  404. was the big point. There was

  405. the meaning. There's the

  406. spiritual significance of

  407. the Old Testament, which is

  408. hidden, is not understood

  409. until you realize, oh, this

  410. is all about Jesus Christ.

  411. That seed of the woman is

  412. about Jesus Christ. Oh, these

  413. stories about Joseph are

  414. about Jesus Christ. Oh, this

  415. story about Moses is about

  416. Jesus Christ. Oh, Joshua

  417. leading them into the

  418. Promised Land is about Jesus

  419. Christ. Just all the law

  420. and all the prophets, to

  421. him give all, to him give

  422. witness all the law and the

  423. prophets, it's only through

  424. Jesus Christ's name that we're

  425. saved. Right? And I'm

  426. paraphrasing that. But of

  427. course, according to the

  428. Bible, the law and the

  429. prophets and the Old

  430. Testament, everything is

  431. giving witness to the Lord

  432. Jesus Christ. It's not to

  433. the law saving us. It's

  434. not pointing back to that.

  435. It's pointing to the Gospel

  436. message. And the Bible

  437. makes it clear that the

  438. Jews by and large, the

  439. children of Israel by and

  440. large, they are kind of like

  441. seeing Moses with a veil when

  442. it comes to the Gospel.

  443. They obviously they see

  444. Moses. They can see him as

  445. a person. They know he's

  446. there. And according to the

  447. Bible, they even believe

  448. that they trust in Moses,

  449. but they don't really know

  450. who Moses is. And if they

  451. had known who Moses was,

  452. then they would know who

  453. Jesus was. Because when you

  454. know Moses, you know

  455. Jesus, when you believe

  456. Moses, you believe

  457. Jesus. And so there's

  458. all this symbolism here.

  459. There's all this metaphor

  460. here. And when they read

  461. Moses, they don't understand

  462. it. Nevertheless, when their

  463. hearts turn to the Lord,

  464. that veil is taken away.

  465. Now, the Lord is that

  466. spirit and where the

  467. spirit of the Lord is

  468. there is liberty. But we

  469. all with open face

  470. beholding as in a glass

  471. the glory of the Lord are

  472. changed into the same image

  473. from glory to glory, even

  474. as by the spirit of the

  475. Lord. So Moses, he

  476. spoke with the Lord. He

  477. understood who the Lord

  478. was. He understood the

  479. words of God. And so his

  480. face shown. And then the

  481. Bible is saying in verse

  482. 18, but we all with open

  483. face beholding. So just as

  484. Moses took the veil off when

  485. he communed with God and

  486. his face shown, we in the

  487. New Testament, we have the

  488. veil off as well. And we

  489. commune with God. And so

  490. that our faces should also

  491. shine in the same way

  492. that Moses face shown. So

  493. while that is a literal

  494. story in the Old Testament,

  495. we are to take the spiritual

  496. application and apply it to

  497. ourselves and that when we

  498. get saved, it's like our

  499. face is shining in a

  500. spiritual way. But what did

  501. Moses have to do? He had

  502. to hide it under that veil

  503. because they couldn't

  504. handle it. They couldn't

  505. take it. And what does

  506. this kind of symbolize?

  507. Well, obviously not

  508. everybody likes the Gospel.

  509. Can't do they? Not

  510. everybody can handle the

  511. Gospel. Some people get

  512. very offended by the Gospel

  513. and whenever you allow it to

  514. shine brightly, people are

  515. going to get upset at you

  516. shining that bright light at

  517. them. Just like I get

  518. upset when someone shines

  519. brights at me, just like I

  520. can't really look at the

  521. sun, it's irritating. You

  522. know what? The Gospel is

  523. irritating to those that

  524. don't want to receive it.

  525. The Gospel is irritating to

  526. those that don't want to

  527. believe it. The Gospel is

  528. too difficult to look at

  529. for this crowd. But should

  530. we just stop sharing the

  531. Gospel? No, of course not.

  532. Verse 1 of chapter 4,

  533. therefore seeing we have

  534. this ministry, as we receive

  535. mercy, we faint not, but

  536. ever renounce the hidden

  537. things of dishonesty, not

  538. walking in craftiness

  539. nor handling the word of God

  540. deceitfully, but by

  541. manifestation of the truth

  542. committing ourselves to

  543. every man's conscience

  544. in the sight of God. But

  545. if our Gospel be hid, it's

  546. hid to them that are lost

  547. and whom the God of this

  548. world have blinded the

  549. minds of them which

  550. believe not lest the light

  551. of the glorious Gospel of

  552. Christ, who is the image of

  553. God, should shine under

  554. them. For we preach not

  555. ourselves, but Christ Jesus,

  556. the Lord, and ourselves,

  557. your servants, for Jesus'

  558. sake. For God, who

  559. commanded the light to

  560. shine out of darkness,

  561. hath shined in our hearts

  562. to give the light of the

  563. knowledge of the glory of

  564. God in the face of

  565. Jesus Christ. But we

  566. have this treasure in

  567. earthen vessels that the

  568. excellency of the power

  569. may be of God and not

  570. of us. So Moses obviously

  571. coming down from the

  572. mount and his face lighting

  573. up like a superhero or

  574. something was a unique

  575. experience. And it would

  576. be kind of easy to think

  577. like, hey, this guy is

  578. special. Moses is special.

  579. And of course, even

  580. unsaved people believe

  581. Moses is special. You

  582. could look at Jews today,

  583. they all look up to

  584. Moses in theory. You

  585. have Islam and Muslims

  586. looking up to Moses, even

  587. though they're not even

  588. saved. And you know, if

  589. we walked around looking

  590. like superheroes, being

  591. just all bright and

  592. shining and our faces

  593. just glow, you know,

  594. you just walk, he's like,

  595. who's the guy that's

  596. glowing? Right? I mean,

  597. it would kind of take

  598. away from the message

  599. being about Jesus and

  600. it would give a little

  601. bit of that glory to us,

  602. wouldn't it? But see,

  603. that's what the Bible

  604. is saying that, hey,

  605. we're an earthen, we're

  606. an earthen vessel, right?

  607. It says here in verse 7,

  608. but we have this treasure

  609. in earthen vessels

  610. that the excellency of

  611. the power may be of God

  612. and not of us. So we're

  613. walking around in the New

  614. Testament and we look no

  615. different. We're not

  616. special. We don't look

  617. like superheroes. In

  618. fact, according to other

  619. parts of Corinthians

  620. and the first Corinthians

  621. and stuff, it's saying

  622. that many of us are not

  623. even mighty in the flesh.

  624. So there's nothing

  625. necessarily special about

  626. us in a human capacity.

  627. We're not superheroes.

  628. We're not Titans.

  629. We're not Gladiators.

  630. We're not Hercules.

  631. But what we do have

  632. is we have the gospel

  633. inside of us and we can

  634. allow that to shine

  635. and we can get people saved.

  636. And then all that treasure

  637. is seen for what it is.

  638. It's the glory of God.

  639. It's not about us.

  640. We all go share

  641. the exact same message.

  642. I mean, if you go

  643. with us, soul winning,

  644. and you go with me

  645. and you go with Brother Diego

  646. and Brother Sam and Brother Ben

  647. and Brother Marcel

  648. and all the people in the room,

  649. like you're going to be like,

  650. man, that was really similar.

  651. It's going to be pretty much

  652. the same thing.

  653. It's going to be, wow,

  654. that was the same

  655. illustrations and the same

  656. talking points and the same

  657. verses and the same outline.

  658. Now, again, if we were

  659. to be like going

  660. with each other,

  661. we kind of start to

  662. notice like, hey,

  663. there's a little nuance

  664. here or this guy emphasizes

  665. a point a little differently

  666. or this guy uses an extra verse.

  667. This guy doesn't, whatever.

  668. Obviously, we're not saying

  669. it's verbatim,

  670. but in essence, it's the same.

  671. Why? Because it's not about us.

  672. It's about this

  673. and it's about shining

  674. that bright light of the gospel.

  675. And that's what gets people saved.

  676. But if it's hid,

  677. well, then people aren't going to get saved.

  678. Notice the only way to get saved

  679. is for this light to shine.

  680. This is the message.

  681. But what I want to focus on

  682. this morning is in verse six,

  683. it says for God,

  684. who commanded the light to shine.

  685. God commanded the light to shine.

  686. Now, this is a reference to

  687. and pointing to the beginning

  688. of the Bible,

  689. the creation story itself.

  690. Let's go back to Genesis chapter one

  691. and let's focus in on this point here.

  692. God commanded the light to shine.

  693. Look at Genesis chapter one, verse one.

  694. In the beginning,

  695. God created the heaven and the earth

  696. and the earth was without form and void

  697. and darkness was upon the face of the deep

  698. and the spirit of God moved

  699. upon the face of the waters.

  700. And God said,

  701. let there be light

  702. and there was light.

  703. And God saw the light that was good

  704. and God divided the light from the darkness

  705. and God called the light day

  706. and the darkness he called night

  707. and the evening in the morning

  708. or the first day.

  709. So in the very beginning of the Bible,

  710. the first story of the Bible,

  711. as expounded on by second Corinthians chapter number four,

  712. we have the gospel message.

  713. Right.

  714. The gospel is at the very beginning

  715. and it's at the very end.

  716. It's everywhere in between.

  717. And so the whole Bible is about the gospel

  718. and it's about this imagery.

  719. It's about this metaphor of light and darkness.

  720. And of course it has a spiritual understanding

  721. but what we have to understand

  722. is that the world is in darkness.

  723. And I have three simple points

  724. that we can see from this little passage here

  725. that we're gonna emphasize throughout the sermon,

  726. but you know, number one,

  727. we see that the world is in darkness.

  728. And verse two, it says,

  729. the earth was without form and void.

  730. Notice this and darkness was upon the face of the deep.

  731. So everything's dark.

  732. There's only darkness.

  733. What does this symbolize?

  734. What is this picture?

  735. This is picturing the same thing that we realized

  736. when we got and preached the gospel

  737. that for all have sinned

  738. and come short of the glory of God

  739. and that there is no salvation

  740. from being good from our works,

  741. from anything that we do,

  742. and that the whole world is just sinful.

  743. The whole world is evil.

  744. The whole world is a complete darkness.

  745. There is no one saving themselves

  746. when we use this word darkness,

  747. obviously we could mean it in a very literal sense

  748. and we could mean it in a metaphoric sense.

  749. And we think about something being dark.

  750. We think about it being evil, being wicked,

  751. doing that which is wrong.

  752. And there's a lot of darkness in this world.

  753. Yay, the whole world, life and darkness as the Bible says.

  754. But what happens is a light shines

  755. and what happens is the light,

  756. you know, if it's bright enough,

  757. you don't even have any darkness.

  758. You know what I mean?

  759. Think about it, the sun comes out

  760. and it's all the darkness is gone.

  761. And in the same way, it's kind of like you get saved

  762. when you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ,

  763. the light shines and all the darkness is gone.

  764. Now again, we're talking about

  765. in our spirit, in our new man,

  766. when you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ,

  767. you've been made righteous

  768. and it's like the lights are turned on everywhere

  769. and now there's no darkness.

  770. The problem is we're still having this flash cloaking us

  771. and we still have the darkness from the flash

  772. and we still have the evil from the flash

  773. and we still have the lust of the flash

  774. and we have to shed that to then be righteous perfectly

  775. and body, soul and spirit.

  776. But in your spirit, man,

  777. when you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ,

  778. the lights come on and there's no more darkness.

  779. Notice how it starts, it starts dark

  780. and then it becomes light.

  781. We are all sinners, but then we get saved

  782. and of course we have that gospel message

  783. and of course you think about it,

  784. there's a problem, then there's the solution.

  785. The problem is the darkness,

  786. the solution is the light

  787. and of course this is why the day starts dark

  788. and then ends with light.

  789. Of course the world reverses this

  790. and we kind of like end in darkness, don't we now?

  791. We kind of end in darkness and it's confusing

  792. but God's creation order was actually

  793. to have the day start in the night

  794. and then in the midpoint the light comes on

  795. and then it ends with the light.

  796. And if you kind of think about that's even how

  797. the world works with, you know,

  798. the world was dark for 4,000 years,

  799. then in the middle you have Jesus Christ come,

  800. the lights come on and then of course

  801. we're gonna have the light of the gospel forever.

  802. We get saved in the same way.

  803. There's so much symbolism here

  804. but notice that God is commanding

  805. as 2 Corinthians 4 words it,

  806. or demanding or stating in verse three

  807. and God said, let there be light.

  808. God is commanding that there's light.

  809. God is declaring that there should be light.

  810. And so you know what God is saying?

  811. God is saying we need the gospel.

  812. God is declaring the gospel.

  813. God is declaring salvation

  814. and he's saying let there be light.

  815. And of course this could be picturing,

  816. you know, the father telling the son

  817. to come to the world to die for the sins of the world.

  818. And of course what does the Bible say?

  819. And there was light.

  820. And just as the father instructed the son

  821. to be the savior of the world,

  822. the son obeyed the father

  823. and he is the light of this world.

  824. He is the one that's shining brightly

  825. and giving us this light

  826. and giving us this gospel message.

  827. And of course we then can realize

  828. that God doesn't want the whole world to be in darkness.

  829. He wants there to be light

  830. because he wants people to be saved.

  831. And he doesn't want just some people to be saved.

  832. He wants everyone to be saved.

  833. And just like the son lights the whole world,

  834. the gospel is for all people

  835. and it's for all nations

  836. and everyone in darkness gets to experience the light

  837. and it's their response to that light

  838. that is gonna determine their eternity.

  839. God is not for ordained people to just die and go to hell

  840. and that they have no chance.

  841. No, God gives them light in all kinds of ways

  842. and they have an opportunity to respond to that light.

  843. Now think about it, you know, in this world,

  844. we don't get light 24 seven.

  845. There's some parts of the world on the polar caps

  846. that parts of the year, they can have a 24 hour sun.

  847. Sorry, Flat Earth, there is it's a globe, all right?

  848. And other parts of the world is dark.

  849. But you know, there's nowhere in the world

  850. that you can be that you're just always light

  851. or just always dark throughout the year.

  852. There'll be some portion that's light

  853. and some portion that's day.

  854. And you know, to me,

  855. that kind of just reflects the reality of this world

  856. that not everybody gets the same chances,

  857. not everybody gets the same exposure to the light,

  858. but they all got exposure to the light.

  859. And it's how you respond when you get that exposure.

  860. And you know, us that are saved,

  861. Jesus Christ has already come and gone.

  862. It's for us to be that light, shining that light.

  863. And God is commanding us.

  864. God is demanding us to be that light

  865. and to let our light shine in this world

  866. and to not allow it to be hidden.

  867. He's saying, hey, if it's hidden,

  868. well it's gonna be only hidden to the lost.

  869. And then they're not gonna be saved.

  870. And of course, the devil doesn't want people to see our light,

  871. but you know what?

  872. We are to let our light shine

  873. just like Moses is having his face shine.

  874. We are to go into this world

  875. and to let our light shine

  876. so that people could be saved.

  877. Gov'e would do Matthew chapter number five.

  878. So the three points that we have this morning

  879. that we can look at and talk about over and over

  880. is that, hey, there's darkness,

  881. but God commanded the light

  882. and then we having that light

  883. are supposed to let our light shine.

  884. And we realize that this is how the world is.

  885. The world is full of darkness.

  886. God is demanding the light

  887. and we are to let our light shine.

  888. Now let's get practical about this.

  889. What does this mean?

  890. No one is getting saved

  891. apart from the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  892. God demanding and commanding us

  893. to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  894. Therefore, we're supposed to let our light shine

  895. by going out and preaching the gospel to the whole world.

  896. It's that simple.

  897. And look, that is the whole message of the Bible.

  898. That's the whole point of the Bible.

  899. That's the whole point of this church.

  900. That should be the whole point of our mission.

  901. That is the first works.

  902. That is the first love.

  903. It's for us to do what God said

  904. and for there to let there be light.

  905. You know, if I were to title my sermon,

  906. I would just title it that.

  907. Let there be light.

  908. God is demanding and God is commanding

  909. there to be light in this world.

  910. And you know who he's talking to?

  911. He's talking to you and he's talking to me

  912. and he's saying, you as a Christian,

  913. you need to preach the gospel.

  914. Let there be light.

  915. We are commanded and instructed

  916. to be a light into this world

  917. and to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  918. And you know what's sad?

  919. It's how many Christians warp this and twist this

  920. into something like just being a do-gooder.

  921. But why don't we just let

  922. the text tell us what these things mean?

  923. Why don't we go to 2 Corinthians chapter four

  924. and see there was all about the gospel

  925. and preaching the gospel and that if our gospel be hid,

  926. it's hid to them that are lost

  927. instead of twisting it into something that it's not.

  928. And they're just being like, oh, you know,

  929. I, when I went through Starbucks,

  930. I bought the guy's coffee behind me.

  931. Look, you go to church today,

  932. that's basically the message.

  933. Just share your light.

  934. Well, you know, here's the problem with that.

  935. Drinking coffee doesn't get you to heaven.

  936. And you know, a lot of times that they'll do that

  937. and they're not even leaving like a tract or anything,

  938. even a tract,

  939. which I don't think the tract's gonna save them either,

  940. but I'm just saying like,

  941. there's not even like a glimmer of,

  942. it could have been a Muslim that left them a coffee.

  943. It could have been an atheist that left them a coffee.

  944. And look, I'm not saying,

  945. don't do random acts of kindness.

  946. I'm not even saying that that's a bad thing.

  947. It's not a bad thing.

  948. But you know what it is?

  949. It's not what the Bible's saying here.

  950. It's a random act of kindness.

  951. And you know what God is not commanding

  952. and demanding us do random acts of kindness.

  953. You know what God is commanding and demanding us do?

  954. Preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  955. That is what he's commanding and demanding us to do.

  956. And look, I'm not against you doing other things

  957. that are nice.

  958. Be the nicest person you wanna be.

  959. But you know what?

  960. You better make sure you're preaching the gospel.

  961. Because you are commanded and demanded to do that.

  962. And look, that is what the Bible is saying

  963. when it's saying, being the light.

  964. Look at Matthew chapter number five, verse 14.

  965. He are the light of the world.

  966. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

  967. Neither have been light a candle and put it under a bushel

  968. but on a candlestick and they give it light

  969. and all that are in the house.

  970. Let your light so shine before men

  971. that they may see your good works

  972. and glorify your father, which is in heaven.

  973. You know, in the Christian life,

  974. a lot of things that we should do

  975. should be done not to be seen of men,

  976. not to be a braggart, not to, you know, lift ourselves up.

  977. The Bible is crystal clear on this.

  978. And of course we should always be humble.

  979. We shouldn't really ever try to brag about ourselves

  980. or be prideful about ourselves.

  981. But the Bible is demanding and commanding us

  982. to let our light shine.

  983. And it's saying, hey, let people see your good works.

  984. I mean, it's making it abundantly clear here

  985. that we're supposed to cause people to see.

  986. It says, let your light shine,

  987. so shine before men that they may see your good works.

  988. So the Bible is saying we want people to see something.

  989. There's something that as a Christian people should see.

  990. And I'll explain it, what it is, it's called soul winning.

  991. It's like, oh, why do you guys always make a big deal

  992. about soul winning?

  993. Why are you guys always posting pictures of soul winning?

  994. Why are you guys always making videos about soul winning?

  995. Why are you making a documentary about soul winning?

  996. Why is it that you go on a mission strip

  997. and you have people get up and talk about

  998. all the soul winning they did on the mission strip?

  999. Why is it that you're constantly posting numbers

  1000. about soul winning?

1001. You know what we're trying to do?

1002. We're trying to let our light shine

1003. so that men can see our works

1004. and they can glorify God the Father.

1005. Look, if you're mad about our soul winning,

1006. you know what you're doing?

1007. You're basically trying to take glory away from God.

1008. You know, you're mad at God the Father.

  1009. Because there's a thing,

1010. I can't get anybody saved as a magical person or something.

1011. All I do is preach this book

1012. and you know what this book does is it gets people saved.

1013. So if people are getting saved

1014. by me preaching the gospel,

1015. you know who's getting the glory?

1016. God is, Jesus Christ is getting that glory.

1017. So then why in the world do you mad at me

1018. for then telling everybody about it,

1019. making a big deal about it?

1020. Because you know what, I'm just glorifying God.

1021. I'm just glorifying Jesus Christ.

1022. Oh wow, you guys count numbers

1023. and you guys are talking about so many.

1024. Yeah, because I love God,

1025. because I love the Lord Jesus Christ,

1026. because we're supposed to let our light shine.

1027. Why would I want to go on a mission strip

1028. and never tell anybody about it,

  1029. never share a picture,

1030. just hide it all under a bushel

1031. and just be like, we want an mission strip,

  1032. people got saved.

1033. I don't want to talk about it.

1034. I don't want anybody encouraged or excited

1035. or try to do it.

1036. In fact, I'm not even gonna say that anymore.

1037. We're just gonna go on mission strips

  1038. and never tell anybody.

1039. We're not even, the church won't even know.

1040. Nothing in the bulletin, no one even knew.

1041. How would we have 71 people go?

1042. It's like, oh, you didn't do a mission strip to our Beatles?

  1043. Oh, I did.

1044. Why didn't you say anything?

1045. Well, I'm not gonna talk about it.

1046. Not gonna bring it up.

  1047. I don't want to promote it.

  1048. I don't want to tell people

1049. that if they spend all this money,

1050. they might actually get someone saved.

  1051. I don't want to tell people

  1052. that it's actually receptive.

1053. I don't want to talk about it.

1054. I mean, why do you talk about numbers?

1055. How about, because when people see numbers,

1056. they're like, I want to go there.

  1057. Oh yeah, yeah.

1058. It's like, oh man, you think people are just like

1059. wanting to go to all these destinations

1060. just because they just sound so cool?

1061. And look, I'm not gonna rag on any place

  1062. because it's all subjective.

  1063. But here's the thing,

1064. some people like some parts of the world more than others.

1065. And one man's destination of a vacation

1066. would be another man's worst nightmare

  1067. and vice versa.

1068. We were talking to a pastor that's in Barbados

1069. and he was saying, he grew up in fundamental Baptist churches

1070. and went to Bible college and was in this whole circuit.

1071. And he said, they have this song that they sing.

1072. And I don't know what, I can't even sing it for you,

1073. but it's called Don't Send Me to Africa.

1074. And he's just saying they would all sing this song

1075. because they were just all making a little light

1076. of a joke of they don't want to be a missionary

1077. to Africa because to them it's just like scary or something.

1078. But again, I'm sure there's some people that love Africa.

1079. I'm sure that some people would love to visit Africa.

1080. But you know, just to be honest,

1081. like I bet a lot of people,

1082. I'm just using this as a stigma,

1083. sorry if you love Africa.

1084. I'm just using the stigma

1085. is that a lot of people may never want to go there.

1086. But you know, if they heard like,

1087. oh wow, hundreds of people are getting saved

1088. or oh, look at all the works you're doing

1089. or if you take this sacrifice,

1090. you can see a lot of people say,

1091. like it could end up motivating people to still go

1092. even though they don't really have

1093. a carnal desire to be there.

1094. They don't want to spend the money

1095. and the time and the effort to get out there.

1096. But you know, by you not making a big deal

  1097. about the spiritual investment

1098. or the opportunity to get people saved there,

1099. you're really just taking away from people getting saved

1100. and from the light being shown.

1101. And you say, oh, that area is really dark.

1102. Well, then that means that my light's gonna shine

  1103. a little bit brighter, isn't it?

  1104. Right.

1105. You know, why is it that we like to talk

  1106. about these dark places

1107. because hey, that's where the light shines really bright.

1108. In fact, sometimes we're like,

1109. we like those neighborhoods being dark,

1110. you know what I mean?

  1111. Because it's really receptive.

1112. Hey, look, we love going out and preaching the gospel.

  1113. And it's not because we're special,

1114. it's because the gospel special.

1115. The gospel special and that light shines brightly.

1116. And you know, by talking about the numbers,

1117. by talking about the people,

1118. by talking about the spiritual aspects,

1119. it motivates people to make decisions

  1120. they wouldn't do normally.

1121. They wouldn't do for a carnal reason.

1122. They would do it just because.

1123. Now again, sometimes you get the best of both worlds.

1124. Look, I mean, honestly, the Caribbean,

1125. in my opinion, is probably kind of almost

1126. the best of both worlds

1127. because there's a lot of good reasons to visit.

1128. There's a lot of cool reasons to visit those areas.

1129. And it's pretty close for Americans.

  1130. It's relatively inexpensive.

1131. It's not necessarily that different

1132. than American life in a lot of ways.

1133. And so they get to do a lot of receptive soul winning.

1134. And then on top of that,

1135. they get to enjoy a lot of aspects of it.

  1136. And you know what?

  1137. I don't think God's saying like,

1138. you can't enjoy soul winning.

1139. You can't enjoy preaching the gospel.

  1140. But you know what?

1141. We're demanded to do it, period.

1142. And we're demanded to do it to all nations.

1143. We're supposed to go everywhere

1144. and preach in the gospel to every creature.

1145. While I would say let's put a flag up of every country,

  1146. obviously we're a limited church.

1147. We're limited resources, limited manpower.

1148. We're trying to hit the countries that we seem

1149. to have the best opportunities,

1150. the most economical, the most receptive,

  1151. the most free options.

1152. And so we're just trying to exercise our abilities

1153. and the opportunities that God's given us.

1154. And you know, we need other churches to step up

1155. and to go into other countries

1156. and go into other nations and to preach the gospel.

1157. And hopefully by us talking about our mission strips

1158. and talking about what steadfast,

  1159. baddest church is accomplishing,

1160. it can encourage other churches and other groups

1161. and other Christians to go to other nations

1162. and other countries and visit and preach the gospel.

1163. And I don't even care if they go to all of ours.

1164. If they're like, well, I just wanna go where they went

1165. because it sounds cool, then praise God.

1166. I've heard of churches going to countries

1167. that we kind of pioneered and went to first.

1168. And I'm like, praise God.

  1169. You know, I don't wanna,

1170. if I showed up at the Bahamas the next time I visit

1171. and every single person saved,

1172. I'm not gonna be disappointed.

1173. The only thing I'll be disappointed in

1174. is that I didn't go more or sooner

  1175. and participate even more.

1176. But I'm not gonna be mad that people are saved

1177. and I'm gonna say, hey, let's go somewhere else now.

1178. Let's go preach the gospel somewhere else

1179. because you know, at the end of the day,

1180. we're supposed to let the light shine.

1181. You know, I'm not offended by lights being on.

1182. I don't need to be the only one that has light.

1183. I like coming in this room.

1184. I like all the lights working.

1185. All the lights in here are nice.

1186. It's kind of weird if there's like

1187. half the sections turned off or something.

1188. You know, they kind of want all the lights on.

1189. It helps out, it aids.

1190. And look, you could turn one of these lights on

1191. and the whole room would have enough light

1192. to kind of get around.

1193. But you know, some of the corners,

1194. some of the edges wouldn't be as bright.

1195. You know, when they're all on though,

  1196. it's just a lot brighter.

1197. You know, we're not trying to be

1198. a non-the-nom church where we turn all the lights off.

  1199. Isn't that interesting?

  1200. Isn't that interesting?

1201. Fundamental Baptist churches are some

1202. of the brightest places you've ever been in.

1203. And non-the-nom churches are some of the darkest places

  1204. you've ever been in.

  1205. It's probably a coincidence, isn't it?

  1206. Right?

1207. Go visit a Catholic church.

1208. It's really dark and creepy and musty.

1209. And they've got like naked babies

1210. on the ceilings and stuff like this.

1211. It's like, I wonder if there's any symbolism here

1212. or metaphors for them being dark creepy pedophiles.

  1213. I mean, you think that's a coincidence?

1214. You think it's a coincidence that the Catholic churches

  1215. are dark, creepy, musty.

1216. The dudes are wearing dresses

1217. and they got naked babies on the wall

1218. and then they're filled with predators and pedophiles.

1219. You go to the non-the-nom church

  1220. and there's a smoke machine.

  1221. There's smoking lights.

1222. They have people coming in on trapeze artists

  1223. and stuff like this.

1224. They have roller coasters and whatever

  1225. nonsense is going on.

1226. And then it's like, this place is a doctrinal train wreck.

1227. You visit a fundamental Baptist church.

  1228. It'll be bright.

  1229. It'll be clean.

1230. There'll be flags on the wall virtually every country.

1231. I mean, almost every independent

1232. fundamental Baptist church they've ever gone to,

1233. they have virtually a flag of every country everywhere.

1234. Now again, because literal reality

  1235. often matches spiritual reality,

1236. they'll also put a stupid Israel flag on the stage, okay?

1237. And doesn't that kind of represent

1238. they're screwed up on that issue?

1239. It's like, hey, they need to take that flag

1240. and some people would rip it.

1241. Hey, if they want to preach the gospel

1242. to people in Israel, I can't get mad at them for that.

1243. And I know that hair lips some people in this room

1244. or whatever, but at the end of the day,

1245. it shouldn't be more prominent though.

1246. Obviously, I mean, some people put an American flag up there.

1247. I don't think it should be more prominent.

1248. Oh, MAGA, or just being so Republican

  1249. or something like that.

1250. You know, hey, I love America.

1251. I bleed red, white, and blue.

  1252. I love our heritage.

  1253. I don't ever want to leave.

1254. I think this is the best country in the world.

1255. You're never gonna change my mind on that.

1256. But you know, at the end of the day,

1257. we should care about all the nations

1258. and we should love all the nations.

1259. And to God, the nations are nothing.

  1260. He doesn't really care.

1261. He's not a respecter of persons and anything like that.

1262. But I'll be honest, I love my country

1263. just like Paul loved the Jews

1264. and just like Paul loved Israel and he loved his people.

1265. I love my people and I love America

1266. and I love this country.

1267. I was born in New York.

  1268. Hey, you know what?

1269. I love this place and I chose Texas.

1270. I thought he was gonna tell you something about me.

1271. But you know, at the end of the day, I love my nation.

1272. But you know, we need to have our light shining brightly

  1273. in this whole world.

1274. Because the whole world is lying in darkness, folks.

1275. And even our own areas are in darkness.

1276. And sometimes the physical reality

1277. matches the spiritual reality of a place.

1278. Go over to John chapter one, go to John chapter one.

1279. We are demanded to preach the gospel.

  1280. Because why?

1281. Because the whole world is lying in darkness

1282. and there's no other hope, there's no other salvation.

  1283. We are their hope.

1284. We are their opportunity for people to be saved.

1285. Oh, why, you know, why are you guys going out?

1286. Why are you guys preaching the gospel?

  1287. It doesn't make a difference.

1288. No, you doing nothing doesn't make a difference.

1289. Well, if they're gonna get saved,

1290. God would figure out a way.

1291. Yeah, his way is me going out

1292. and preaching them the gospel.

  1293. That's the way.

  1294. That's how it's gonna happen.

1295. In John one, the Bible says in verse two,

1296. well, let's just read the first verse might as well.

1297. In the beginning was the word of the word is with God

1298. and the word was God.

1299. The same was in the beginning with God.

1300. All things are made by him

1301. and without him was not anything made that was made.

  1302. And him was life

1303. and the life was the light of men.

1304. And the light shineth in darkness

1305. and the darkness comprehended it not.

1306. Notice again, the gospel of John

1307. is signaling the first section of the Bible.

1308. And what is the gospel of John

1309. pretty much the most famous for is being

1310. the book that gets people saved.

1311. The whole point of the gospel of John is to get people saved.

1312. It's the most beloved gospel in many ways.

1313. It's the most read gospel in many ways.

1314. It's the most distributed gospel in many ways.

1315. I mean, for most parts of this world,

1316. they just have a John Romans

1317. or the most famous verse, John 316.

  1318. Why?

1319. Because this book is about the gospel,

  1320. it's about the light.

1321. And you know what God commanded, let there be light.

1322. And so God is spreading the book of John

1323. all over this world so that people could be saved.

1324. Even if you don't have Leviticus and Exodus

1325. and Daniel and all these other books,

1326. it doesn't matter if you have John, you can get saved.

1327. And you know, it's not a coincidence

1328. that John was the disciple in whom Jesus loved

1329. that was so close to him

1330. and that was leaning on his breast

1331. and someone that was used greatly

1332. by the Lord Jesus Christ.

  1333. And not only that,

1334. it gives us the book of Revelation

1335. and all the revelation of Jesus Christ.

1336. You know, there's a reason why these things are true.

1337. And it's that light that's shining in darkness.

1338. Notice the darkness doesn't understand it.

1339. It says there was a man sent from God,

  1340. his name was John,

1341. the same came for a witness

1342. to bear witness of that light

1343. or of the light that all men through him might believe.

1344. He was not that light

1345. but was sent to bear witness of that light.

1346. Hey, we are to be like John the Baptist

  1347. who's being mentioned here.

  1348. Don't confuse the Johns,

1349. as the John the author of the apostle

1350. and as the John the Baptist.

1351. John the Baptist is being described here

1352. in the early stages of this book

1353. and he is to bear witness of the light.

1354. That is what we are to do.

1355. We are to bear witness of the light.

1356. We're to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.

1357. And in verse eight, he was not that light

1358. but was sent to bear witness of the light.

1359. That's the same thing Second Corinthians chapter four said.

1360. Hey, this treasure is in earthen vessels.

1361. Hey, he's not the light.

  1362. He's not shining physically

1363. but he's sent to bear witness of the light.

1364. And that's what we are as Baptist

1365. as we are going out and bearing witness of that light

1366. so that people could believe and be saved.

1367. Verse nine, that was the true light

1368. which lighteth every man that come into the world.

1369. You know, when I think about this

1370. lighting every man in the world

1371. there's some things that we could think about

  1372. what that means.

1373. One I think is the fact that it's offered

  1374. to every single person.

  1375. Keep your finger here

1376. and just go to Romans five for a moment.

1377. I'm going to go to Romans chapter five

1378. and notice that the Bible is going to tell us about this

1379. but again, the doctrine of Calvinism

  1380. is a wicked doctrine that's like a bushel.

1381. The doctrine of Calvinism is like a bushel

1382. that's being put over the gospel light.

  1383. And look, I think there's probably

1384. lots of Calvinists that are saved

1385. but the problem is when they get this Calvinist doctrine

1386. they're putting a bushel over their light

1387. and they're not allowing it to shine.

1388. And it's a wet blanket on soul winning

1389. and the soul winning fire and zeal

1390. and it's really hard to find a Calvinist

1391. that's excited to go on mission trips

1392. and preach the gospel and be evangelistic

1393. and care about getting people saved.

1394. They typically want to debate Muslims or something

1395. or they typically want to just be seen as an intellectual

1396. and just be really smart.

1397. The problem is that they're not wise

1398. because he that went his soul is wise

  1399. what the Bible says.

1400. Oh, well this Calvinist is really smart.

1401. Well, if he's not a soul winner

  1402. then he's not wise.

1403. Romans chapter number five, look at verse 18,

1404. therefore by the offense of one,

1405. judgment came upon all men into condemnation.

1406. Even so, by the righteousness of one,

1407. the free gift came upon all men

  1408. under justification of life.

1409. How does a Calvinist interpret this verse?

1410. Well, all doesn't mean all.

1411. They have to do that like a hundred times in the Bible.

1412. But what's interesting is the righteousness of one,

1413. the free gift came upon all men.

1414. That sounds like the light that lighteth every man.

1415. Just like the sun has lighted on every man.

1416. Everybody has been exposed to the light.

1417. Everybody has offered the light.

  1418. Everybody has this opportunity.

1419. And the only light that's given to every man,

1420. the light that lighteth every man is Jesus Christ.

1421. So in one way we could read that

1422. and say the gospel's offered all.

1423. A second way we could look at that

1424. is from a saved perspective,

1425. those who got saved, it was only Jesus Christ

1426. that gave them that light.

1427. He was the one that lighted them.

  1428. Everyone that's been lighted,

1429. everyone that has that light,

  1430. everyone that's been saved,

  1431. it's because of Jesus

1432. and Jesus is the one that gave him that light.

1433. We are saved through Jesus Christ.

1434. Go back to John one there.

1435. He was that true light which lighteth

1436. every man that comeeth in the world.

1437. So, you know, I believe that it's talking

1438. about the fact that the gospel is offered to all.

1439. And that we all have this opportunity.

1440. But even if you wanted to get even more narrow,

1441. obviously he's the only one that gives salvation

  1442. to those who believe.

1443. It says in verse 10,

1444. he was in the world and the world was made by him

1445. and the world knew him not.

1446. Now, how could we interpret verse 10

1447. as anything other than everybody?

1448. I mean, the world knew him not?

1449. I mean, that's not talking about saved people.

1450. That's talking about unsaved people.

1451. So if the world in verse 10 used three times,

1452. means unsaved, he was in the world,

1453. he was in what, all these unsaved people

1454. and the world was made by him,

1455. all the people were made by him

1456. and the world knew him not.

  1457. That's, again, it's using this language

1458. because it's like in literal sense,

1459. in Genesis one, the world's like physical world

  1460. and it's in darkness

1461. and the darkness doesn't understand the light

1462. and it flees from the light

1463. and it runs from the light.

1464. But in a metaphor, world meaning unsaved people,

1465. the unsaved people, they didn't know him

1466. and they didn't receive him

1467. and they don't understand him

1468. and even though he made them

1469. and even though he's given them that light,

  1470. given them this opportunity,

1471. but compare that back then with verse nine.

1472. That was the true light with light

1473. is every man that come within the world.

1474. Sounds like we're talking about everybody then, right?

1475. Verse 11, he came unto his own

1476. and his own received him not

1477. but as many as received him to them

1478. gave him power to become the sons of God,

1479. even them that believe on his name.

1480. So what saves someone is believing in Jesus Christ,

  1481. believing in that light,

1482. that light shining unto them

1483. and that was the light that gives us.

1484. Go to John three, verse 19,

1485. just flip the page and look at verse 19.

1486. And this is the condemnation

1487. that light is coming to the world

1488. and men love darkness rather than light

1489. because their deeds were evil.

1490. For everyone that do with evil hate of the light,

1491. neither coming to the light

1492. less as deed should be approved.

1493. But he that do with truth,

  1494. coming to the light,

1495. that is deeds maybe made manifest

1496. that they are wrought in God.

1497. So just like someone wants to come into light literally

1498. so that we can see what they're doing

1499. and they can see what they're doing

1500. and they can make sure they're doing what's right.

1501. Well, it's the same way that spiritually speaking,

1502. people seeking what's right end up getting saved.

1503. So if I'm working on something and it's dark,

1504. I'm not gonna be as successful.

  1505. I need a light.

1506. My car broke down when I was going to Connecticut

1507. and we had to put a spare on

1508. and it was pitch black out there,

  1509. no street lights virtually.

1510. And so I had to have my son hold my phone with a light on it

1511. so I could see what I was doing.

1512. And if I had to change that tire without that light,

1513. it would have been almost impossible.

1514. But I wanted the light so that I could do it correctly.

1515. And the same way that people in this world

1516. that want to know if they're right with God

1517. will seek for the light.

1518. Now here's the good news.

1519. You don't actually have to do right

1520. and be good enough to get into heaven,

1521. but you do have to seek for the light.

1522. You don't have to want to come to the light

1523. and figure out if you're even right with God or not

  1524. to even get saved.

  1525. But here's the thing.

1526. You end up going to the light

1527. and you realize, wow, I screwed up.

  1528. Wow, I was making a mistake.

  1529. Wow, I wasn't gonna get this.

1530. And then when you're in the light,

1531. he's like, hey, I'll fix it for you.

1532. And you're like, great, this is awesome.

1533. I was screwing it up.

1534. I just wanted to figure out if it was right or not.

1535. And then when I came into light,

1536. he helped me figure it out.

1537. Now this is offensive to many people

1538. and it was offensive to some people

1539. that I talked to in Barbados.

1540. So we went to Barbados on this mission strip

1541. and I didn't get to preach necessarily a ton of people,

1542. but I was at one of the universities,

1543. mostly because when you go to the university,

1544. it was like everybody already had a card.

1545. This is like, I mean, more than like 80% of the people

1546. I talked to had already been picked over, all right?

1547. So I got the last day,

1548. I'm there just getting scraps or something, right?

1549. But I'm talking to some three guys.

  1550. Three guys walked by.

1551. It's a Muslim, an agnostic, and a Christian, all right?

1552. It's almost like a joke or something, but.

1553. And the guy that was a Christian's name is Christian.

1554. So I was like, well, that's easy to remember, right?

1555. But I was asking the Christian,

1556. because the other two were just kind of

1557. seeming like scoffers, not that interested.

1558. I was kind of talking to him or like prioritizing him.

1559. And again, this is my just tip.

  1560. If you're in a group setting,

1561. I would just prioritize the person that's interested,

1562. receptive seeming, and just ignore the other people.

1563. Because if you try to include these other people,

  1564. it's usually a disaster, okay?

1565. So in a group setting, even if it was like 10 people,

1566. I just try to focus on like one person,

1567. or the person that's most engaged in the conversation.

1568. And then afterwards I can focus on the others

1569. if I want to, but it's usually best

1570. to just kind of dial in with one person.

1571. So I'm just kind of like honing in on this guy.

1572. Well, the Muslim just kind of starts walking away

1573. and I was like, great, you know?

1574. And but the agnostic is just sitting here

1575. just being just a constant heckler.

1576. Just like everything that I say

1577. and just kind of gain saying everything that I say.

  1578. He's like, oh, so you're saying

1579. that if I live my whole life

1580. and I'm just trying to do the best that I can

1581. and because I just don't believe in Jesus like you do,

1582. I'm gonna go to hell.

1583. And I'm just like, yes.

1584. Well, how was that fair?

1585. Okay, well, let's go to Romans one for a moment.

  1586. How was that fair?

  1587. Well, here's the thing.

1588. You're not only going to hell

1589. because you just didn't believe what I told you.

  1590. You're going to hell because you're a sinner.

1591. Okay, and that's what I told him.

  1592. I said, well, you're a sinner.

1593. Okay, Romans one, look at verse 18,

1594. for the wrath of God has revealed from heaven

1595. against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men.

1596. Notice that God is wrath is against what?

1597. Ungodliness and unrighteousness of men.

1598. It's not only because they reject the Lord.

1599. It's not only because they don't believe in Him.

  1600. It's because they're ungodly.

  1601. It's because they're unrighteous.

1602. And look, if we really examine some college student,

1603. you're gonna tell me he hasn't lied

1604. thousands of times in his life.

  1605. He hasn't stolen.

1606. He hasn't done wicked things.

  1607. He hasn't committed fornication.

1608. And look, I don't know the person,

1609. but I'm just saying by and large,

1610. we're not talking about someone

  1611. that has one transgression.

1612. I love how these people always act

1613. like they haven't really done anything that bad.

1614. But it's like, if we really lined them up

1615. and gave every single one of their charges,

1616. I guarantee they're a lot more guilty than they realize.

1617. It's kind of like when the cop pulls you over.

1618. He's like, you know why I pulled you over?

  1619. And you're thinking like, I don't know.

1620. It's like speeding, running a red light,

1621. not putting on your turn signal.

1622. You know, expired registration entrance.

  1623. You're like, dang, I didn't realize all that.

1624. You know, your headlights out.

1625. I mean, there might have been 50 things that you did wrong.

1626. In fact, we probably transgressed,

1627. driving way more than you realize.

1628. Not putting on your signal.

1629. Like you're supposed to put on your turn signal

1630. and stuff like seconds before you turn

1631. and you're supposed to actually come to a complete stop

  1632. and stuff.

1633. I know I'm liberal on these things, all right?

  1634. But, hey, everybody's a little bit.

1635. But, you know, we transgress a lot more than we realize.

1636. Just like kids are also, you know,

1637. transgressing into their parents a lot.

1638. But God is mad at ungodliness and unrighteousness.

1639. It says they hold the truth and unrighteousness though.

1640. Because that which may be known

1641. of God has manifested in them,

1642. for God has showed it under them.

1643. For the invisible things of him

1644. from the creation of the world are clearly seen,

1645. being understood by the things that are made,

1646. even as eternal power in God,

1647. and so they're without excuse.

1648. Notice according to the Bible, no one has an excuse.

1649. Just like the light shines,

1650. they can understand that God is existent and that he shines.

1651. So, is hell, hell, you know, it just doesn't seem fair.

  1652. Well, what is fair?

  1653. Isn't fair just justice?

  1654. Getting what you deserve?

1655. What do you deserve for lying tons of times?

1656. What do you deserve for stealing all the time?

1657. What do you deserve for all these things that you've done?

1658. What would be fair then?

1659. And again, they're not saying,

  1660. why deserve this punishment?

1661. They want no punishment for their sin.

1662. But Romans chapter three, verse one,

1663. and they'll say, oh, well,

1664. what about all the people that didn't hear

  1665. weren't born in a Christian home?

1666. Well, look at verse one.

1667. What advantage does that the Jew?

1668. Or what profit is there of circumcision?

  1669. Much every way, chiefly,

  1670. because that under them

1671. were committed the work of God.

1672. So it's like saying, oh, you're just saying like,

  1673. you know, these Muslims

1674. don't have the same chance as these Christians.

  1675. Yeah.

1676. Hey, in the Old Testament,

1677. you were born into a Jewish family.

1678. You had a much greater chance

1679. of hearing the gospel, of hearing the Bible.

1680. In fact, it says, what advantage

1681. do you have every single advantage?

  1682. Every single advantage.

1683. Verse three, for what if some did not believe?

1684. Shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?

1685. What about all the people

1686. that were born in a Christian home

1687. and they rejected it and they turned away?

1688. Does that mean your religion's not real?

1689. Well, verse four, God forbid.

1690. Yeah, he let God be true, but every man a liar.

1691. As it's written that that might as be justified

1692. in my sayings and might as overcome when thou art judged.

  1693. But if our unrighteousness

1694. commend the righteousness of God,

  1695. what shall we say?

1696. Is God unrighteous to take a vengeance?

  1697. I speak as a man.

  1698. God forbid, for then,

1699. how shall God judge the world?

1700. So you know, he's really,

1701. Paul's addressing like all of these gain saying arguments.

  1702. It's like, oh, well you're saying

1703. that people that are born in a Christian home

1704. have a greater chance of being saved

  1705. than people that don't.

  1706. Yes.

1707. Oh, well you're saying that

1708. if people don't believe this,

1709. they're gonna go to hell.

  1710. Yes.

1711. Oh, well you're saying that I deserve hell.

  1712. Yes.

  1713. Yes to all these.

1714. And you know, one of the,

  1715. even the Christian said,

1716. so you're telling me this guy,

  1717. my friend that's a Muslim,

1718. like if he doesn't believe,

1719. he's gonna go to hell.

  1720. Yes.

1721. Well, how is that fair?

1722. And I'm like, okay, well,

  1723. let's just stop for a moment.

1724. What if Islam is true?

1725. Doesn't that mean that Christians

  1726. don't have as good a chance

1727. to become a Muslim and get saved?

1728. And he's like, well, yeah.

1729. So I said, well, so then

1730. picking religions doesn't change this fact, does it?

1731. So I guess you could just believe

1732. in universalism that doesn't matter

1733. or that there is no God,

1734. but if there is a God,

  1735. we're not all right,

1736. we're not all on the same page,

1737. not everybody has the same chances.

1738. Sorry, that's an inconvenient fact,

  1739. but that's just reality.

  1740. Yeah, it's just reality.

1741. And look, in every part of our lives,

  1742. nothing's fair.

1743. Some people are born in a family

1744. that has lots of money and privilege and opportunity.

1745. Some people are born without parents.

1746. They've been abandoned by their parents.

  1747. They've had bad parents.

  1748. You know, whatever situation

1749. they're born in an impoverished country,

1750. they maybe are born with a birth defect.

1751. They're born with some issue.

1752. You know, nothing is fair.

1753. Oh, well, you don't understand my circumstance

1754. or my life or whatever.

  1755. You know, nothing's fair.

  1756. But you know what?

1757. The guy that was born in a privileged home

1758. is often the spoiled brat

1759. that doesn't actually care about God.

1760. And the people that had real struggles,

  1761. bad childhoods, bad parents,

1762. they're often more likely to be receptive

  1763. and then serve God.

1764. So then which one's fair?

1765. Was it more fair to have a bad circumstance

1766. and to be saved and go to church and love God?

1767. Or was it better to have a great family situation

1768. and basically not wanna serve God

1769. and be too prideful and too arrogant?

1770. I mean, pick your poison.

1771. You know, living in America, I love being in here.

  1772. I think I've had a lot of privilege.

  1773. I think I've had a lot of opportunities

1774. that other people haven't had.

1775. And you know, I'm not gonna say that I'm bad

1776. because I have privilege though.

1777. But you know, at the end of the day,

1778. hey, we should realize that it's not everything's fair.

1779. And because it's not fair

1780. and because the Muslim will go to hell

1781. and because the Bayesian will go to hell

1782. and because the Bahamian will go to hell

1783. and because the Filipino will go to hell

1784. if they don't believe the gospel,

1785. I'm motivated to go out and preach the gospel

  1786. to every creature.

1787. And you know, because I actually believe my religion,

1788. I actually believe the Bible,

1789. I actually believe what the Bible says

1790. and I believe what God said, let there be light.

1791. But let me tell you something,

1792. the Muslims don't even believe that.

1793. Where are the Muslims going two by two in America

  1794. preaching their gospel?

1795. Where is the Muslim missionary

1796. that is sent to Barbados like Pastor Smith

1797. who's dedicating his whole life

1798. to just be in a foreign country

  1799. preaching his false religion?

1800. You know, it doesn't even exist virtually.

1801. Now again, I get that Islam is spreading,

  1802. but you know what?

1803. They're not trying to convert the same way Christianity is.

1804. They're not trying to spread the gospel of peace.

1805. They're not going two by two.

1806. They're not the ones that are spending thousands and thousands

1807. of dollars to evangelize the world

  1808. and be missionaries everywhere.

1809. I mean, you know, really you kind of have like Mormons,

  1810. Jehovah's Witnesses and us.

  1811. I mean, if you're saying like,

1812. who are the people actually going out, knocking doors,

1813. trying to spread their message around the world?

1814. It's kind of them and us.

1815. But you know, oh, let's think about Mormons

  1816. for half a second.

1817. They only get 18 and 19 year olds to do it

  1818. because they have to.

1819. They're not like, oh, I just want to do this for us in my life.

1820. As soon as they can be done, they're done.

1821. They just go on mission because that's just what they're told

  1822. to do.

1823. It's just kind of like how in America,

1824. you just go to college because that's what they're told to do.

1825. It's not like, and again, you have to pay for it.

1826. And I get the Mormons have to pay for it,

1827. but you know, at the end of the day,

1828. they're not sending out people that want to spend

1829. their whole lives in foreign country to mission,

1830. to be a missionary and evangelist.

1831. And let's be honest, they're not trying to be effective.

  1832. They're riding bicycles, folks.

1833. Why are they riding bicycles?

1834. You want to know why they're riding bicycles?

1835. Because they don't care and it's free.

1836. They're not even willing to spend gas money on you.

1837. They're not going to spend a dime that they don't have to

  1838. giving you the gospel.

1839. And look, when they knock on their door,

1840. they're not going to tell you how to go to heaven.

1841. They're going to ask you to have Bible studies

1842. and they're going to sit here and try to just

1843. bring you into their cult.

1844. You look at a Jova's Witnesses walking,

  1845. they're the slowest, they're like turtles.

1846. Walking around sad as just the,

1847. you've ever met anybody in your life

  1848. because they're not saved.

1849. They don't have the joy of the Lord.

  1850. They don't have salvation.

  1851. They're both cult groups.

1852. But you know, at least you could say

1853. they kind of believe their religion.

1854. But again, the Jova's Witnesses only think

1855. they have to do that to go to heaven.

1856. They're not doing this because of the actual

  1857. love for the Lord.

1858. You know, for us, we know we don't have to do that

  1859. to go to heaven.

  1860. It's a labor of love.

1861. We're doing it because we believe it.

1862. And you read the book of Acts,

1863. they were going out and preaching the gospel

  1864. because they believed it.

1865. You know, which religion do you want?

1866. You want the religion that doesn't care about you,

1867. that won't spend a dime on you,

1868. that won't give you any gas,

1869. or the religion that'll go all around the world

1870. paying their own way to give you a free gospel.

1871. And it's not just us.

1872. It's not just the new idea.

1873. Look, I ran into a Southern Baptist guy

1874. that they go to Africa all the time

1875. and they're evangelizing and giving people the gospel

  1876. all the time.

1877. There's all kinds of evangelicals

1878. and fundamental Baptist and Southern Baptist

1879. and others that are going out there

1880. and preaching the gospel and trying to get people saved.

1881. And they're not only, they're doing good.

  1882. When's the, I mean, look, I know I give

1883. the Southern Baptist and some of these people a hard time,

1884. but it's like when's the last time you see a Muslim

1885. come over here and give us a well?

1886. Like build us a well or give us a sandwich or something.

1887. You know, are the Muslims going into Africa

1888. and building wells and giving sandwiches to the Africans?

  1889. It's like, oh, I wonder which religion's real.

1890. I wonder which religion's the right one.

1891. Maybe it's the one that's willing to spend

1892. their own time, money, effort, and energy

1893. to give you something for free

1894. as opposed to the one that literally puts

1895. their women in ninja suits.

1896. You know, I don't know which religion's real here.

1897. You know, the Bible says that he's gonna visit

1898. the iniquity on the children

1899. to the third and fourth generation

1900. and that's what I see with Islam.

1901. You know, why is it that everybody wants

1902. to go to an American country or a Christian nation

1903. and not an Islamic country?

1904. I have way too much to say

1905. and I've already gone out of time,

1906. but I wanna go to one more place.

1907. Go if you would to Luke chapter 11, Luke chapter 11.

Luke 11 chapter mention Luke 11 chapter mention

1908. You know, the Bible says if you seek, you shall find.

1909. And you know, you could sit here and feel sad

1910. that people don't all have the same opportunity,

1911. but if you actually care, you know, you'll do,

1912. then you'll take the opportunity to them.

1913. Hey, I'm sad these people don't have light,

1914. so I'm gonna come bring light to them.

1915. You're not gonna sit here and be mad at God.

1916. God's commanding you and demanding you to be that light

1917. and to let your light shine.

1918. And he's saying, hey, I know it's dark out there.

  1919. Go be some light.

1920. And what does he mean practically?

  1921. Go preach the gospel.

1922. Look, if you're not a soul winner,

1923. you need to become a soul winner.

1924. And you become a lifelong soul winner

  1925. and you know what?

1926. You need to go and preach the gospel

1927. and even if you never leave this area,

1928. be a soul winner in your area at least.

1929. But you know, for many of us that have the opportunity

1930. and the ability, let us spread the gospel into all nations.

1931. Let us go into Shreveport.

1932. Let us go into Mexico.

1933. Let us go into the Caribbean.

1934. Let us go into Asia.

1935. Let us go all over the world and preach the gospel.

1936. I mean, heck, we're gonna go into unreceptive places,

1937. Europe and Canada sometimes and these other places.

  1938. But you know what?

1939. We need to go where it's dark

1940. so we can bring our light.

1941. We're trying to find areas that are receptive,

  1942. that want the light.

  1943. Go into Fiji.

1944. Go into all kinds of parts of this world

1945. and preach in the gospel.

1946. And you know, that is our mission in life.

1947. That's the reason why we have this church

1948. and we never want to lose that vision.

  1949. That's why we're here.

  1950. Let there be light.

1951. We want to be preaching the gospel

  1952. and emphasizing the gospel.

1953. Acts chapter 17, look at verse 23.

    Acts 17 chapter mention

1954. For as I passed by and beheld your devotions,

1955. I found an altar with this inscription

  1956. to the unknown God,

1957. whom therefore you ignorantly worship,

1958. him, declare I unto you.

1959. Everybody out there is ignorant of who the God of the Bible is

1960. and we need to go out there and declare it unto them.

1961. God that made the world and all things there

1962. and sing that he is the Lord of heaven and earth,

1963. dwelleth not in temples made with hands.

1964. Neither is worship with men's hands

1965. as though he needed anything,

1966. singing he giveth all life and breath and all things.

1967. And hath made of one blood all nations of men

1968. for to dwell on all the face of the earth.

1969. And at the term of the times before appointed

1970. and the bounds of their habitation,

1971. that if they should seek the Lord,

1972. if happily they might feel after him and find him,

1973. though he be not far from every one of us.

1974. For in him we live and move and have our being

1975. as certain also of your own poets have said,

1976. for we are also his offspring.

1977. For as much as we are the offspring of God,

1978. we ought not to think that the Godhead

1979. is likened to gold or silver or stone,

1980. graven by art and man's device.

1981. And the times of this ignorance God winked at,

1982. but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent.

1983. So look, oh, I don't know which religion's right.

  1984. No, it's obvious.

1985. Nope, you don't have an excuse.

1986. Nope, the light's out there.

1987. No, if you seek him, you're gonna find him.

1988. No, he's not that far from every one of us.

  1989. But you know what?

1990. We need to be the other part of that equation

1991. when we're shining that light.

1992. Because he hath appointed a day

1993. in the which he will judge the world in righteousness

1994. by that man whom he hath ordained,

1995. wherever he hath given assurance unto all men,

1996. and that he hath raised them from the dead.

1997. And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead,

1998. some mocked, and others said,

1999. we will hear thee again of this matter.

2000. So Paul departed from among them,

2001. albeit certain men clave unto him and believed.

  2002. So here's the thing.

2003. It's not that they didn't have opportunity,

2004. it's that some believed and some mocked.

  2005. But you know what?

2006. We are to do our job

2007. and we're supposed to let the light shine.

2008. And if the darkness doesn't comprehend it,

  2009. well, that's their fault.

  2010. But you know what?

2011. We don't want it to be our fault

2012. that we hid it under a bushel.

2013. And if we hide our light under a bushel,

2014. God will just take us home early.

2015. He'll take us out of the socket

2016. and put in a new light bulb.

2017. Because God wants there to be light.

2018. You know, we don't have these lights in here just for fun.

2019. We have them to shine.

2020. And as soon as the light goes out,

2021. we throw it away and we put in a new one.

2022. And in the same way that God is gonna do that

2023. spiritually with those who are shining brightly,

2024. he's gonna keep in that socket.

2025. But if you turn your light out,

2026. you're just asking and begging for God to send you home.

2027. You're just asking for him to change the light bulb.

2028. You know, a church that all the lights go out on?

2029. Then you become a non-denom church, okay?

  2030. I call them non-evangelical churches.

2031. And you know, if you lose your first love

2032. and your light, then God removes your lampstand.

2033. You know, God's gonna remove your light

  2034. because there's no point.

2035. Why would God wanna lift you up

2036. when you're not shining the light?

2037. He lifts you up because you're shining the light.

2038. Hey, if you want our church to succeed,

2039. you want our church to be a great church,

2040. you want God to bless our church,

2041. here's what we have to do.

2042. We have to shine bright.

2043. We have to let our light shine

2044. and we have to do what God commanded us

2045. to let there be light.

2046. Let's go to some prayer.

2047. Thank you Heavenly Father, so much for your word.

2048. Thank you so much for these great stories

2049. that we have in the Bible

2050. to illustrate these spiritual truths.

2051. I pray that we would not be selfish,

2052. that we would not be carnal,

2053. that we would not just only care about ourselves,

2054. but rather we care about your commandments.

2055. We realize this world's so dark

2056. and it may not always be fun to be in the dark,

2057. but they need the light and we need to be that light

2058. and we need to be the ones

2059. who are out there preaching the gospel.

2060. I pray that you would motivate and stir men's hearts

2061. to be that light and to get people saved.

2062. It's their only chance, it's their only hope.

2063. And we understand that you are just God.

  2064. You're a loving God.

2065. You're God that wishes for people to repent

  2066. and believe the gospel,

2067. but you need us to go out there and to be that light.

2068. I pray that you would help our church

2069. to be a bright and shining light

2070. in such a dark world.

2071. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
