  1. then Jesus' name, Amen.

  2. Amen.

  3. The time I sermon this evening is,

  4. why can't we be friends?

  5. And you know, I mean, it's just,

  6. to me it's a simple idea,

  7. but I think it's kind of an embodiment

  8. of what Christianity should be,

  9. is that in Christianity, by and large,

  10. we should strive to be friendly towards other people

  11. and we should try to be as friends

  12. as many people as we can,

  13. and try to have a loving attitude towards people

  14. and you know, it's kind of frustrating

  15. is to see people not being friends

  16. or not being a fan of someone

  17. or not being kind to someone

  18. that seems like in an un-Christian way

  19. and so I just kind of want to address this topic here.

  20. Now, the Bible says in Romans chapter 12, look at verse 16,

    Romans 12 chapter mention

  21. be of the same mind one toward another,

  22. mind not high things,

  23. but condescend to men of low estate,

  24. be not wise in your own conceits.

  25. One of the ideas that the Bible teaches

  26. is that not everybody's gonna be on your level

  27. and what we should do is instead of talking down to people

  28. or looking down on people,

  29. is that rather we should condescend two men of low estate

  30. and we should meet them at their level.

  31. Now, this often happens from a carnal's perspective,

  32. you know, people looking down on others

  33. because of their economic status

  34. or basically the rich looking down on the poor.

  35. You could have this, you know,

  36. obviously there's a lot of racism in the world

  37. so people looking down on different groups of people

  38. based on their nationality,

  39. where they're from a richer country versus a poorer country.

  40. There's a lot of this prejudice

  41. that exists in the world.

  42. People look down on people physically,

  43. they just or the young look down on the old

  44. or the old look down on the young

  45. or you have men pitted against women

  46. or women pitted against men

  47. or you just have like an infinite number of scenarios here

  48. where people just look down on other people.

  49. They essentially have one group of the haves

  50. and the have nots and you have the haves

  51. who are looking down on the have nots.

  52. That's why we kinda have this idea of the low estate,

  53. the person that's in a lower class,

  54. a lower classification, having less, looking down on them

  55. but the Bible says that we should condescend to them

  56. in the sense that we should meet them on their level

  57. and we shouldn't always be looking down at people

  58. or treating them negatively

  59. and I think it also overlaps into a spiritual context

  60. that there could be someone that's not as spiritually

  61. on the same level as you

  62. and so we don't wanna have this same attitude

  63. where we look down on people

  64. that are spiritually of a lower estate.

  65. Now what could that mean?

  66. That could mean specifically,

  67. we talk about someone that's maybe a newer believer

  68. or someone who is not as spiritual,

  69. maybe someone who's not as knowledgeable

  70. or having as much wisdom as you

  71. so this could be someone that doesn't have the same doctrine.

  72. This could be someone that doesn't know how to go soul-warning

  73. or doesn't do as much evangelism

  74. or care about the evangelism

  75. but maybe they're a little bit more backslidden

  76. or maybe whatever it is,

  77. they're just not on your same level spiritually

  78. and instead of looking down on them

  79. or being negative towards them,

  80. we should condescend to them in a sense.

  81. Now, we don't want to ruin our own zeal,

  82. we don't wanna necessarily allow bad habits to corrupt,

  83. we don't want bad communications

  84. to corrupt good manners of course as the Bible says

  85. but the same way we shouldn't necessarily treat people

  86. as second-class citizens and look down on them

  87. and be negative towards them

  88. and not wanna be friendly towards them, okay?

  89. And so we wanna have the right kind of attitude

  90. in this subject matter

  91. but I wanna go to Matthew five for a moment

  92. and I'm really trying to look at this

  93. as different groups of people

  94. that we should think about this scenario here

  95. of being friendly towards other individuals

  96. and one group in particular

  97. that I think it's really important to look at

  98. is those in our church.

  99. So people in our church, here's my question,

  100. why can't we be friends, okay?

  101. Now, here's the thing, I wanna be careful

  102. because obviously I don't wanna,

  103. I'm not contradicting anything I've said in the past

  104. and I wanna use the word friends in a different sense

  105. but obviously I've said before

  106. you don't have to be friends with anybody in this church

  107. and I believe that and I agree with that

  108. but what I mean by that when I say that

  109. is I'm saying they don't have to be the person

  110. that comes to your house all the time

  111. and you're hanging out with all the time

  112. and you're on the phone calling with them

  113. and you're just doing everything buddy buddy,

  114. you don't have to do that with anybody in church

  115. but you should be friendly

  116. with every single person in church

  117. and you should be for everybody in church

  118. and you should wish good for everyone in church.

  119. So regardless of how close of a relationship

  120. you're gonna have with everyone

  121. and regardless of how much you're gonna actually hang out

  122. outside of a church setting,

  123. you should still be friendly towards

  124. every single person in your church

  125. and that should be our general disposition

  126. towards those in church

  127. but unfortunately you'll see sometimes

  128. people not being that way in an actual church setting.

  129. They're not friendly towards people in their church

  130. and they're exhibiting a lot of carnal attributes.

  131. Now the Bible brings up a subject

  132. and it is not talking about church specifically

  133. but I'm gonna apply this to church

  134. because I think this is where this really comes into play

  135. but Matthew 5, look at verse 43.

  136. "'You have heard that have been said

  137. "'thou shalt love thy neighbor and hate thy enemy.'"

  138. Now why I'm bringing this in is

  139. because in verse 43 it says love thy neighbor.

  140. Like this is talking about people in close proximity

  141. to you and you know church is a setting

  142. where we're in close proximity to a lot of people

  143. and it's like hey you've heard you should love

  144. your neighbor and hate thy enemy

  145. meaning the people that are close to you

  146. that don't like you or whatever

  147. but I say and you love your enemies

  148. bless them that curse you do good to them

  149. that hate you and pray for them

  150. which despitefully use you and persecute you

  151. that you may be the children of your father

  152. which is in heaven for he maketh his son to rise

  153. on the evil and on the good

  154. and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

  155. For if you love them which love you

  156. what reward have you?

  157. Do not even the publicans the same

  158. and if you salute your brethren only

  159. what do you more than others?

  160. Do not even the publicans so be there for perfect

  161. even if your father which is in heaven is perfect.

  162. So if we unpack a little bit of this

  163. notice it says that the publicans love them

  164. which what?

  165. Love you which meaning like hey

  166. no matter who it is people tend to just reciprocate love.

  167. So if someone's really kind to you

  168. really generous to you really nice to you

  169. often it's easy to be nice to that person

  170. but if someone's not treating you this way

  171. well it's harder to love or be friendly

  172. towards that particular individual

  173. and he's saying specifically also

  174. how God behaves that God makes his son to rise

  175. on the evil and on the good

  176. and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

  177. So what does God want us to do?

  178. God wants us to send out friend vibes

  179. even the people that aren't sending them our way.

  180. So basically we have to be the first actor.

  181. So if someone in church kind of gives you

  182. the cold shoulder if someone is not necessarily

  183. being friendly towards you maybe even

  184. they said something bad about you.

  185. Okay now what typically happens?

  186. Someone says something bad about someone

  187. so then what do they do?

  188. They say something bad about them back.

  189. That's just the typical thing

  190. but what would be a better way to handle this

  191. if someone says something bad about you

  192. is you be friendly towards that individual

  193. to overcome evil with good

  194. and to love your enemies and to bless them

  195. and even if they're not treating you very well

  196. just be kind to them do good to them

  197. and if someone asks you about them in church

  198. instead of being like oh this person's a bad person

  199. why don't you say something positive about them?

  200. Now that's really challenging.

  201. It'd be really challenging

  202. if someone's not treating you well in a church setting

  203. is not really your friend

  204. has done things that are not very nice to you

  205. but you defend them, you're kind towards them

  206. and you speak well of them when other people ask

  207. and you know what'll typically happen

  208. is it'll probably stop them treating you poorly.

  209. They'll probably pick a new victim

  210. or maybe you could actually even

  211. become friends

  212. because believe it or not

  213. there are people in this world that did not like each other

  214. and spoke evil of each other at one point in time

  215. and then they ended up becoming friends

  216. and you know how you do that

  217. you overcome evil with good

  218. and so what we should do

  219. is we should have an attitude of

  220. hey even if someone's not talking nicely about me

  221. or saying evil about me

  222. I can still be friendly towards this person

  223. I can still love them, I can still do good to them

  224. and I can even quote turn the other cheek in a sense

  225. and you know we read these passages

  226. this is not talking about like a national security policy

  227. okay this is not the biblical text

  228. on how to handle foreign enemies invading your country

  229. this is not talking about people doing home invasion

  230. at night this is talking about people

  231. in close proximity to you

  232. not treating you nice maybe duty dirty

  233. isn't doing things that are right

  234. and instead of reciprocating evil for evil

  235. you reciprocate good for evil

  236. and you try to win them over with kindness

  237. and that's we're trying to be like God

  238. which is what perfect

  239. hey be there for perfect

  240. oh I don't want to do that that's not fair

  241. well I'm not asking you to be fair

  242. I'm asking you to be perfect

  243. and I'm not even asking you

  244. God's asking you to do that

  245. you know God doesn't expect us to be just

  246. he expects us to go beyond just justice

  247. and extending mercy

  248. okay some people want justice every single time

  249. and you know what justice is not always the best move

  250. the best move in many cases is extend charity

  251. grace

  252. belong suffering

  253. and be perfect like our father

  254. which in heaven is perfect

  255. where he even loves his enemies

  256. as illustrated by the fact that he reigns

  257. on the just and on the unjust

  258. by the fact that the sun rises on

  259. the good and the evil

  260. and that he does good unto people that don't deserve it

  261. all of us

  262. but in general even just

  263. if we classified humanity in categories of good and bad

  264. even the bad God is still nice to

  265. and kind to and does good to

  266. and so why would we want to have this attitude

  267. a reputation of anyone that does evil to us

  268. or bad to us

  269. we trash them

  270. and we do evil back to them

  271. we wanna be like God

  272. where we just generally do good to most people

  273. and again we have exceptions

  274. and I'm gonna talk about that in a minute

  275. but for the most part

  276. we should love our enemies

  277. and do good to them

  278. wish them well

  279. and hope that

  280. you know positive things happen for them

  281. this is not saying we excuse sin

  282. this is not saying we don't address sin

  283. it's just saying in general

  284. that we try our best to be kind to them

  285. and we don't reciprocate

  286. railing for railing

  287. or evil surmising for evil surmising

  288. but rather blessing

  289. okay

  290. let's go to another group

  291. how about people in your denomination

  292. go to 1st Corinthians chapter 16

  293. we should just be friends with people in our church

  294. like that should just be of no brainer

  295. but I have to say it because it's real

  296. and anytime you get enough people together

  297. people won't like each other

  298. and people irritate each other

  299. it's called a family number one

  300. but number two it's even a spiritual family

  301. and you know

  302. the best thing to do is just to be kind

  303. even when they don't deserve it

  304. even when they're not treating you well

  305. and a lot of times you win people over

  306. a lot of times time itself can heal a lot of wounds

  307. and when you just do good to people

  308. a lot of times they overlook

  309. whatever issues they've had in the past

  310. maybe they might even ask for forgiveness

  311. and it would surprise you

  312. but you can't overcome evil with good

  313. that's what the Bible teaches

  314. now

  315. I had to turn to 1st Corinthians chapter 16

  316. because I wanted to illustrate that

  317. the church at Corinth

  318. was offering to participate in a ministry

  319. of giving money to the saints in Jerusalem

  320. it says in verse one now

  321. concerning the collection for the saints

  322. as I give an order to the churches of Galatia

  323. even so do ye

  324. upon the first day of the week

  325. let every one of you lay by him in store

  326. as God has prospered him

  327. that there be no gatherings when I come

  328. and when I come whomsoever you shall approve

  329. by your letters

  330. them will I send to bring your liberality

  331. unto Jerusalem

  332. now from context in other passages

  333. the Bible is crystal clear

  334. that the apostle Paul is not demanding them

  335. give money to anybody

  336. this is something that the Corinth church

  337. wanted to participate in

  338. and was willing to offer a free will offering

  339. of themselves money to the poor saints in Jerusalem

  340. and so what we see is we see love

  341. between other churches in their denomination

  342. I mean hey this is a church in Corinth

  343. there's a church in Jerusalem

  344. and you know what we shouldn't have this rivalry

  345. against churches where we don't like

  346. other Baptist churches or something like that

  347. like we should have

  348. we should have a love for other Baptist churches

  349. especially independent Baptist churches

  350. like people that are King James only

  351. that have the right gospel

  352. I mean that's pretty much usually my test of fellowship

  353. like on that liberal

  354. it's just like King James only

  355. you got the right gospel

  356. you're I'm capable of being your friend

  357. and being not only just being your friend

  358. being in fellowship with you

  359. meaning that I would potentially allow you to preach for us

  360. I'd preach for y'all without hesitation

  361. now look I get that I would preach virtually anywhere

  362. but I'm just saying like in general

  363. I wouldn't be ashamed or embarrassed to be friends

  364. with someone that has the right Bible

  365. and has the right gospel

  366. and look there's a lot of other areas

  367. that I think are important

  368. don't hear me wrong

  369. that I think are super necessary in the Christian faith

  370. but I'm not gonna be so hardcore

  371. that they have to have exact form of communion as we do

  372. in order for us to be friends

  373. and look there are fellowships like that

  374. there are churches like that

  375. there's all kinds of reasons

  376. why people have fellowships and groups and whatever

  377. but you know we should be having this attitude

  378. of hey we would like to bless other churches

  379. and help other churches

  380. and we wouldn't even mind giving money to other churches

  381. that are not necessarily exactly like us

  382. or have problems

  383. and think I mean the New Testament churches

  384. a lot of them have some serious problems

  385. like they have some serious issues

  386. there's doctrinal differences

  387. there's a lot I mean he's talking about the churches

  388. in Galatia, Galatia gets screwed up

  389. on the gospel at one point

  390. you know and I think that there's probably churches

  391. in the world today

  392. that they're an independent fundamental Baptist church

  393. and they have the right Bible

  394. and they have the right gospel

  395. but there's an element in their church

  396. or there's some impact of like a repenting of your sins

  397. like influence that's corrupting them

  398. and causing them problems or whatever

  399. and we should rebuke that and correct that

  400. and want nothing to do with that doctrine

  401. but it doesn't mean that the whole church

  402. is damned necessarily

  403. and you know just like the churches in Galatia

  404. they needed strong rebuke

  405. they needed correction

  406. but they were still part of the group

  407. and hey they're even participating in the ministry

  408. to the saints of Jerusalem

  409. and so we should have a general camaraderie

  410. and a general love and fellowship

  411. towards other Baptists

  412. and other people in our denomination

  413. it only makes sense

  414. go to 1st John chapter four

  415. we should just love the IFB

  416. we should just love the IFB

  417. and I even just love Baptists in general

  418. now there's look

  419. there's a lot of bad Baptist churches out there okay

  420. there's a lot of people that are trying

  421. to take a good name Baptist and make it bad okay

  422. but I think there's a lot of good Baptists

  423. in this world and I like them now

  424. I love my family and growing up with my family

  425. I would argue with them all night though

  426. and I would tell them that they're wrong

  427. it doesn't mean that I wasn't still their brother

  428. and doesn't mean I didn't still love them

  429. so you know hey I'm gonna still point out

  430. all my Baptist brother and their's

  431. and I'm gonna still call them out

  432. on the issues that they have

  433. but it doesn't mean I don't love them

  434. it doesn't mean I wouldn't support them

  435. it doesn't mean I don't have positive feelings

  436. towards them

  437. and so we don't wanna get those mixed up

  438. and you know while I may correct them

  439. pretty sharply from the pulpit

  440. if I were to run into these people in person

  441. I would be very kind, very gentle, very meek

  442. and not necessarily even offering unsolicited advice

  443. in those areas

  444. and so we wanna be careful that

  445. hey when we're here in our church setting

  446. and we're preaching the Bible

  447. this is for our congregation and our people

  448. and it's not necessarily how I would

  449. directly interact with every single one of these

  450. individuals you know we should approach these people

  451. with grace, with love

  452. I mean think about it every single epistle

  453. in the New Testament written by the apostle Paul

  454. it basically starts out with like grace, peace

  455. and love from the Lord Jesus Christ

  456. and from God the Father

  457. and he's like wishing them well

  458. and then he's like oh by the way

  459. I'm afraid you're not even saved

  460. oh by the way this guy that's sleeping

  461. with his father's wife

  462. you need to throw him out of the church

  463. by the way you have people in your church

  464. that don't even believe the resurrection

  465. they're not even saved what the heck are you doing

  466. you know like hey you guys are eating meat sacrifice

  467. and idols you're actually fellowshiping with devils

  468. and I wouldn't have that you'd fellowship with devils right

  469. I mean it's not like he's not addressing

  470. some serious issues

  471. but what was his first statement

  472. grace, peace and love and you know

  473. and look that's we need to have a balance in our life

  474. we don't wanna only we don't wanna be a Christian

  475. where we're just only in the middle of the epistles

  476. where we're just like alright I'm ready to just

  477. you know crack some skulls okay

  478. we also need to start with some grace

  479. and some peace and some love

  480. and in with some grace and some peace and love

  481. and hey we can have a spicy sandwich here

  482. I'm not saying it's not gonna be spicy

  483. but what I'm saying is our general disposition should be

  484. hey we should be friendly towards these people

  485. and want them to have a good taste in their mouth

  486. as far as you know their experience with us

  487. first John chapter four look at verse 20

  488. if a man say I love God

  489. and hate it this brother he is a liar

  490. for he that loveeth not his brother whom he hath seen

  491. how can he love God whom he hath not seen

  492. and this commandment have we from him

  493. that he who loveeth God love his brother also

  494. so the Bible makes it clear

  495. we demonstrate our love for God

  496. by how we treat our brothers and sisters in Christ

  497. and so those who do not like very many Christians

  498. and are very negative towards lots of Christians

  499. show that they don't really love God very much

  500. and show a lack of the love for the Lord

  501. so the more love we have for the brethren

  502. the more love we have forgotten

  503. I would argue that those who are serving God the most

  504. those who are our brothers and sisters in Christ

  505. who are serving God the most

  506. we should have the most love towards

  507. and that that's gonna show and embody

  508. our love for God even the most

  509. so obviously if you give a cup of cold water

  510. only the name of a disciple

  511. you shall know wise lose your reward

  512. there's an emphasis on disciples

  513. and doing good unto disciples

  514. and so those who are the Christians of the faith

  515. that are disciples and doing the work of the Lord

  516. if you can't love those people you don't love God

  517. like whoever is the greatest Christians on this earth

  518. we should have the most love for

  519. you know if we were in the first century

  520. we should be loving Paul the most

  521. we should be loving John the most

  522. we should be loving like it would be weird to say

  523. hey I love the brethren but I hate Paul

  524. and I hate John and I hate Stephen

  525. and I hate you know just every one of these

  526. pesky little disciples or whatever

  527. it's just like well that's weird

  528. because if you actually love God

  529. you would really love those guys

  530. like it's kind of incompatible

  531. to say you love God

  532. and hate the best disciples of Christ

  533. you know if you really love God

  534. you would really love the greatest disciples of Christ

  535. and that's why you kind of notice a pattern

  536. you'll notice this pattern

  537. that the same people that hate Jack Hiles

  538. end up kind of hating all the other good people too

  539. and you kind of notice all the people

  540. that hate the good people hate Jack Hiles

  541. and it's like and other people that are like him

  542. or whatever and so you just kind of notice

  543. this attitude, this behavior

  544. and you know I don't want to be around people

  545. that are just hating some of the greatest Christians

  546. and some of the greatest disciples

  547. like that's a bad attitude, it's a bad spirit

  548. and look if you just personally say like

  549. I don't like one of these individuals

  550. and you have your reasons go for it

  551. you can do and believe whatever you want

  552. but I'm just saying if you kind of just dislike

  553. every one of the best disciples on the earth right now

  554. you have a problem, you have a serious issue

  555. you're the one at fault here

  556. because if you say that you love God

  557. you're gonna love his children

  558. and you're gonna love your brothers and sisters in Christ

  559. and it's impossible to love God

  560. without loving your brothers and sisters in Christ

  561. it's just fact it's just what the Bible says

  562. so you know those that hate the new IFB

  563. they have a problem with their love for God

  564. and then you know what I've noticed

  565. in the independent Baptist world

  566. and the independent fundamentalist world

  567. the churches that are the most influenced by Jack Hiles

  568. and love soul winning the most

  569. seem to be the most gracious towards us

  570. and the most loving towards us

  571. that can't be a coincidence

  572. it's not a coincidence because let's just be honest

  573. they love God more than the others

  574. the people that are going soul winning the most

  575. and preaching the gospel the most

  576. they love God the most

  577. and then they're the most charitable and kind

  578. of those who love God the most the same

  579. and again we don't wanna then be accused though

  580. of being really zealous soul winners

  581. that look down on other people and hate other people

  582. and oh you're not of us

  583. like the wrong spirit

  584. we wanna reciprocate and love the brethren

  585. and love those that love the Lord

  586. and are doing great works for God

  587. and we don't wanna turn away from those who love Jesus

  588. even if they're not like us

  589. even if they don't like us

  590. you know we should still like them

  591. hey if there's a guy out there

  592. that's doing a lot of soul winning

  593. and reaching a lot of people

  594. and he's like well I don't like you know Jonathan Shelley

  595. it's like well you know what God bless you anyways

  596. you know can I buy you a sandwich or whatever

  597. you know it's like hey who cares

  598. like it's not about people liking you

  599. it's about the work of God

  600. and at the end of the day we should just love our

  601. brothers and sisters in Christ

  602. and we should overcome evil with good

  603. we don't want them to think of us

  604. as just being so mean spirited

  605. and hateful towards the brethren

  606. we want to love them

  607. that doesn't mean we don't correct them

  608. that doesn't mean we don't point out

  609. what the Bible teaches

  610. but we can still do it

  611. we can still speak the truth and love

  612. is what the Bible says

  613. and what does the love mean

  614. it means when you're making statements

  615. is because you care about the person

  616. you actually want them to change

  617. you're not trying to tear them down

  618. and there's a very evident difference

  619. between someone that's just trying to trash someone

  620. and someone that's trying to correct

  621. and lovingly help someone change

  622. and we should have the second

  623. we should be more in the latter

  624. go to Galatians chapter 6

    Galatians 6 chapter mention

  625. go to Galatians chapter number 6

  626. and I want to look at verse number 10

  627. but we've talked about a couple groups

  628. we've talked about people in our church

  629. we should love them

  630. we should love people just in the broader scope

  631. of the independent fundamental Baptist world

  632. but I'm going to go even broader now

  633. and say that we should just love people

  634. in our faith

  635. so just any Christian

  636. I don't really care what church they go to

  637. or if they don't even go to church

  638. we should just kind of love Christians

  639. anybody that's saved

  640. we knock on a door we get someone saved

  641. and they're not Christian at all

  642. as far as their lifestyle

  643. we should still love that person

  644. we run into someone that's saved

  645. but they're not serving God

  646. they're not really doing the right thing

  647. we should still have love towards that person

  648. and we should still be friendly towards that person

  649. I'm not saying make this guy your number one friend

  650. I'm not saying he has to come over to your house

  651. and hang out with you

  652. I'm not saying let him borrow your car

  653. but what I am saying

  654. is you should be friendly towards that person

  655. we should just be friendly towards other Christians

  656. and it's like why can't I be friends

  657. with other Christians

  658. okay

  659. Galatians chapter six look at verse number 10

  660. as we have therefore opportunity

  661. let us do good unto all men

  662. especially unto them who are the household of faith

  663. now according to the Bible

  664. if I can do good unto someone that's not even saved

  665. then why would I not be able to do good to someone

  666. that is saved even if

  667. God forbid

  668. he was a Calvinist

  669. I know I was really silent

  670. okay you know

  671. the silence in church for about half an hour

  672. and I'm just kidding

  673. it's just like

  674. look I mean some people they lose their mind

  675. that it's like oh man you are nice to a Calvinist

  676. outside of a church setting

  677. don't you know he's a Calvinist

  678. it's like sure but you know what

  679. there could be a Calvinist out there that's saved

  680. and look even if he wasn't

  681. the Bible says I could do good to people that are not saved

  682. but then how much more the household of faith

  683. and look I don't think that it's bad

  684. that we as Christians can reach across the aisle

  685. and be nice to people that are saved

  686. even though they're in screwed up denominations

  687. they're backslidden and they have issues

  688. there's in my opinion there's nothing wrong

  689. of being friendly towards those people

  690. okay

  691. now am I saying

  692. that I can always have fellowship with them

  693. no it could be a first Corinthians five issue

  694. I get that I'm not trying to

  695. I'm not trying to disregard that part of the Bible

  696. I'm not trying to say there couldn't be Christians

  697. that are involved in grievous sin

  698. and we need to separate from them

  699. because of the grievous sin that they're involved in

  700. I'm not saying that we won't point out their sin

  701. but what I am saying is why wouldn't I just be friendly

  702. and do good to them

  703. especially the household of faith

  704. you know we should just have an attitude of like

  705. I just like Christians in general

  706. and I love Christians

  707. whether they be of a different flavor

  708. a different denomination

  709. or if they're screwed up

  710. but hey if they're saved

  711. you know we can have

  712. we should have some love for these people

  713. we should have some desire

  714. and we should try to win them over

  715. you know with meekness

  716. and with love

  717. and with compassion

  718. because you know there's been a lot of us

  719. that were in a different denomination for this church

  720. who in this church has been any denomination

  721. other than Baptist in their in their past

  722. yeah look around

  723. isn't it nice that

  724. you know we have an opportunity to change

  725. and become a Baptist

  726. you know I wasn't born a Baptist

  727. but I'll die a Baptist all right

  728. but you know my wife was Baptist born Baptist bred

  729. and she'll be Baptist dead when she dies all right

  730. and praise God for that testimony

  731. I love that

  732. I love that my children are raised Baptist

  733. and are going to be Baptist their whole life

  734. but you know

  735. for those of us that are not

  736. we realize hey

  737. I'm glad that someone was able to reach me

  738. and welcome me in

  739. and teach me where I was wrong

  740. and show me the errors that I had in my church

  741. you know I came from a charismatic

  742. non-denominational background

  743. and yeah they did this speaking in tongues

  744. but you know

  745. no one in my church was running around

  746. barking like a dog

  747. okay

  748. no one was doing fire tunnels

  749. okay

  750. now some of you have that testimony

  751. I don't know

  752. but I'm just saying like

  753. you know so it's like

  754. oh you're you're from a non-denominational church

  755. so you're demon possessed

  756. and it's just like well no

  757. I'm not demon possessed

  758. like we don't have this attitude

  759. that everybody that goes to a Pentecostal church

  760. is now a demon possessed

  761. dog barking freak

  762. or something like that okay

  763. but some people have that attitude

  764. some people think like

  765. oh you know

  766. because you're from this group

  767. you have this attitude

  768. or this belief

  769. and you know we don't want

  770. we want to have a love towards the brethren

  771. and a love towards the saved

  772. even if they're screwed up on doctrine

  773. even if they're screwed up

  774. going to a bad church

  775. even if they have the wrong Bible

  776. we want to try and win them over

  777. and why can't we be friends

  778. you know God willing

  779. they'll change

  780. and they'll become a Baptist

  781. they'll be like hey you're right

  782. hey that is what the bible says

  783. hey and you know what

  784. if they if they don't get one over

  785. and they don't become your best friend

  786. what was the harm

  787. and you're just being friendly

  788. towards them anyways

  789. I don't really see how it harms anything

  790. Galatians chapter 6 verse 1

    Galatians 6:1

  791. Brethren if a man be overtaken in a fault

  792. ye which are spiritual

  793. restore such a one

  794. in the spirit of meekness

  795. considering thyself

  796. lest thou also be tempted

  797. bear ye one another's burdens

  798. and so fulfill the law of Christ

  799. notice it doesn't say when a man's overtaken in a fault

  800. treat him like trash

  801. trash him burn him

  802. it's it's kind of similar what we started with

  803. condescending him in a little state

  804. it's like hey

  805. try to restore him in the spirit of meekness

  806. not looking down upon him

  807. not trashing him

  808. but rather

  809. hey buddy

  810. I get it

  811. we all sin

  812. hey I understand where you're coming from

  813. I felt that way before

  814. I've thought that before

  815. I've struggled with that before

  816. hey but I want you to change

  817. hey this is why you should change

  818. hey why don't you help me

  819. hey why don't you call me

  820. hey trying to reach that person

  821. and try to restore them

  822. and try to help them

  823. hey I was Pentecostal

  824. it was stupid

  825. let me help

  826. let me show you how it's right

  827. hey I had an NIV

  828. let me show you where it's screwed up

  829. hey I made this mistake

  830. let me show you why I don't want to make that mistake anymore

  831. hey I used to get drunk or whatever

  832. I used to do this

  833. it's like hey

  834. you know whatever it is

  835. just in the spirit of meekness

  836. instructing those that oppose themselves

  837. not sitting here and

  838. looking down on people

  839. and oh you've got

  840. you're an idiot for having the wrong bible

  841. and oh you're such

  842. you're such a fool

  843. and you know the bible says that

  844. you know drunkards are fools

  845. you know it's just like

  846. we don't have to necessarily be like that

  847. in our daily experiences

  848. now again if you're saying what the bible says

  849. I'm not gonna

  850. I'm not gonna throw stones at you

  851. but it doesn't mean that you can't still try

  852. your best to approach people love

  853. and kindness and meekness

  854. because that's what the bible's saying

  855. just as much as the bible tells us to rebuke our neighbor

  856. and not suffer sent upon him

  857. it also says to instruct them in meekness doesn't it

  858. so you can't just like

  859. I really like that rebuke part of the bible

  860. now you got to love the meekness part too

  861. okay

  862. obviously some churches they only emphasize the meekness

  863. and they don't care about the correction

  864. they don't care about the rebuke

  865. we want both

  866. but we want to make sure that we're doing it

  867. in a loving kind gracious attitude

  868. and we should be friends

  869. towards these people

  870. go if you would to Luke chapter

  871. or go to Matthew 11 first actually

  872. go to Matthew chapter 11

    Matthew 11 chapter mention

  873. so you know why can't we be friends

  874. with people in our church

  875. I think we should be friends with people in our church

  876. I think we should be for everyone in our church

  877. we should be wishing good for the people in our church

  878. we should be wishing good for the people in our denomination

  879. other Baptist other fundamental Baptist

  880. hey I'm just wishing good for a lot of Christians

  881. I hope a lot of Christians in our nation

  882. a lot of good things happen for them

  883. and they become King James only

  884. and they become a Baptist

  885. and they become like-minded

  886. they become a soul winner

  887. and even if they never become like me

  888. I just hope they become evangelistic

  889. and start preaching the gospel at least

  890. you know

  891. not everybody's gonna be exactly like us

  892. not everybody's gonna always be persuaded

  893. to come all our way

  894. but if they could just be persuaded

  895. to present the gospel a little bit more in their life

  896. wouldn't that be a win

  897. wouldn't that be a positive thing

  898. even if they could maybe clean up

  899. some areas of their life

  900. or make some positive changes

  901. you know

  902. it's not always about people becoming exactly like us

  903. sometimes it's just about helping people

  904. take a couple good steps in the right direction

  905. and so that's why I also think

  906. why can't I be friends with someone

  907. that is headed in the right direction

  908. okay so not only we're talking about people in our church

  909. we're talking about people in our denomination

  910. we're talking about people in our faith

  911. as Christians

  912. how about just people headed in the right direction

  913. and you know I've noticed there's been

  914. since COVID and other events in our world

  915. people they kind of get woken up

  916. they start realizing like

  917. man I feel like I've been lied to

  918. and they start seeking truth

  919. and they're not even saved necessarily

  920. but they're just taking steps down a pathway of like

  921. I'm just trying to figure out what the truth is

  922. and I'm just discovering truth in the areas that they are

  923. maybe they're Catholic still

  924. maybe they're Lutheran

  925. maybe they maybe they're not even really a Christian

  926. but you know what they're trying to go down a pathway

  927. towards truth

  928. it's like why can't I be friendly towards that person

  929. and try to help that person

  930. and get them to the real truth

  931. which is the gospel

  932. and I think that we should have this attitude

  933. of being friendly towards people

  934. who are heading in the right direction

  935. now Jesus often got accused of

  936. I would argue something similar

  937. where the Pharisees and the Sadducees

  938. would look down upon him

  939. and criticize him

  940. for being friends with people from rough backgrounds

  941. people are obviously not saved

  942. at a time in their past

  943. and definitely not even serving God at all

  944. very rough individuals

  945. but look what it says in Matthew 11 verse 19

    Matthew 11:19

  946. it says the son of man came eating and drinking

  947. and they say behold a man gluttonous

  948. and a wine beaver

  949. a friend of publicans and sinners

  950. but wisdom is justified to our children

  951. now here's the thing

  952. this is a careful

  953. we have to carefully unpack this passage

  954. because you got some people out there

  955. being like yeah Jesus was hanging out of the bar

  956. false

  957. okay if we back up

  958. just just let's just back up a hair

  959. all right look at verse 18

  960. for John came neither eating or drinking

  961. and they say he had the devil

  962. now is that statement true

  963. is it even kind of true

  964. is it even a little bit true

  965. it's a hundred percent false

  966. okay

  967. so then why would I then take

  968. the next statement out of their mouth

  969. in verse 19

  970. and be like this is true

  971. it's obviously not true

  972. okay

  973. there's something wrong with what they're saying

  974. but there's an element of truth

  975. obviously mixed in with some of these things

  976. what is the element of truth in this

  977. the element of truth is that

  978. there are people that are sinful

  979. that were very bad people

  980. like public and sinners

  981. but they started walking in the right direction

  982. and then Jesus ended up ministering to them

  983. and giving them the gospel

  984. okay

  985. but Jesus is not hanging out with

  986. the tax collectors

  987. he's not hanging out with

  988. he's not best friends with

  989. the prostitutes and all

  990. he's not going to a house of prostitution

  991. but yeah

  992. did prostitutes come to him

  993. seeking the truth

  994. and seeking grace and mercy

  995. and he was friendly towards them

  996. absolutely

  997. now let's get a clear example

  998. let's go to Luke chapter number 19

  999. go to Luke chapter number 19

1000. and so sometimes people what they'll do

  1001. they'll criticize you

  1002. for being friendly

  1003. or nice to someone

1004. that has some screwed up stuff in their past

1005. that has some serious major issues

1006. or they have a rough upbringing

1007. or they don't look right

  1008. but you know what

1009. if they're headed in the right direction

1010. why can't I be friendly towards them

1011. and that's not that he's quote friends with them

  1012. and they're the besties

  1013. they're hanging out

  1014. in these sinful places

1015. but he is friendly towards them

1016. and he's seeking for them to be saved

1017. look at Luke chapter 19

    Luke 19 chapter mention

  1018. look at verse 5

1019. and when Jesus came to the place

1020. he looked up and saw

  1021. and said to them

1022. Zacchaeus make haste and come down for today

1023. I must abide at thy house

1024. and he made haste and came down

  1025. and received him joyfully

1026. and when they saw it

  1027. they all murmured

1028. saying that he was going to be guessed

1029. with a man that is a sinner

1030. and Zacchaeus stood and said

  1031. unto the Lord

  1032. behold Lord

1033. the half of my goods I give to the poor

1034. and if I have taken anything from any man

  1035. by false accusation

  1036. I restored him fourfold

1037. and Jesus said in him

1038. this day his salvation come to this house

1039. for as much as he also

1040. is a son of Abraham

1041. for the son of man has come to seek and to save

  1042. that which was lost

  1043. notice Zacchaeus

  1044. came to seek Jesus

1045. that's why he went in the tree

1046. he wanted to see him

  1047. secondly

  1048. when approached by Jesus

  1049. we have an attitude

1050. in a heart of someone

1051. that's trying to go in the right direction

  1052. saying look

1053. I'm going to give money back

1054. I'm going to try and do right now

1055. I want to make some positive steps in my life

1056. I want to head in the right direction here

  1057. and then Jesus saying

1058. hey today salvation is coming to your house

1059. it's not that he quote

1060. repent of his sins and be saved

1061. but what the bible is teaching

  1062. is that look

1063. this guy was headed in the right direction

1064. and that's when the gospel hit him

  1065. it's just like John 3

  1066. that tells us

1067. that's the guy that's seeking the truth

  1068. seeking the light

1069. he's going to be the one that's coming to the light

1070. but the person that hates the light

  1071. you know

1072. because he doesn't want his deeds to be reproved

1073. he doesn't end up finding it

1074. it's not the actor of repent of your sins

  1075. to be saved

  1076. at all

1077. but often people that are seeking

1078. to be corrected by the Lord

  1079. or seeking the Lord

1080. will end up finding the gospel

1081. and finding out salvation is a free gift

  1082. okay

1083. so I think because of things like this

1084. this is why it's so easy for people

  1085. to conflate these issues

1086. and why it's so easy for people that are even saved

1087. to get screwed up on some of these issues

1088. even though the bible is crystal clear

1089. you don't have to repent of any sins to be saved

1090. but we see people doing it

1091. I mean can't we see that there were some people

1092. that the moment they got saved

  1093. they changed their life

1094. and can't we see that there's some people right here

  1095. like Zacchaeus

1096. that are determined to try and give up some of their sins

1097. while seeking the right gospel and the right salvation

1098. so it's not that there isn't people

1099. who don't simultaneously get saved

1100. and repent of their sins

1101. in the same moments in the same time frame

  1102. the problem is

1103. teaching that that's a requirement for salvation

  1104. that's the problem

1105. and of course there's a lot of people

  1106. they have a testimony

1107. where they were living a very sinful life

1108. and then they started seeking the Lord

  1109. and they got saved

1110. and so in their mind

1111. they think you have to seek the Lord

1112. and you have to turn over new leaf to get saved

1113. but you don't have to do that to get saved

1114. it's just often that leads you to the gospel

1115. so they're conflating those two issues

1116. and missing the whole point

1117. but why are we you know talking about Zacchaeus

  1118. we're talking about Zacchaeus

1119. because notice the Pharisees were murmuring it

1120. Jesus hanging out with them

1121. they're like oh how dare you hang out with the sinner

1122. with this with this guy

1123. you know you look at a church like ours

1124. and you'll find a lot of people that have a have a rough past

1125. you have people that didn't weren't necessarily Christian

1126. they weren't a fundamental Baptist their whole life

1127. their whole family didn't serve at Hiles Anderson

  1128. or something like that

1129. you know they actually had some rough upbringing

  1130. but you know what

1131. hey we can still bring them into church

1132. and be friendly towards them

1133. and we can be friends towards individuals

1134. that are headed in the right direction

1135. and you know I have no problem being friendly

1136. towards Catholics who are headed in the right direction

1137. no does that mean I'm friends with the Catholic priest

  1138. who's preaching a false gospel no

1139. am I going to be friendly towards people like Nick Fuentes

1140. who are preaching actively a false gospel on a regular basis

  1141. no

1142. but you know if someone was a Catholic

1143. and they're not evangelistic about their false religion

1144. and they're seeming to head in the right direction

  1145. I don't see why I would be wrong

1146. for me to be friendly towards that person

1147. and trying to help them convert

1148. and help them see the light

1149. and help them come to the Lord

1150. just like Jesus was friendly towards these people

1151. but then it would be a false accusation of

1152. oh you're friends with Catholics

  1153. you're friends with these

  1154. it's like really

1155. like show me the Catholic in my friends list

1156. show me the Catholic on my speed dial

  1157. show me the Catholic

  1158. it's like I don't have these people

1159. but you know I can be friendly towards them

1160. I can interact with them in a social setting

1161. and be friendly and kind

1162. and I'm not rebuking them

1163. and I'm not being mean towards them

1164. and I'm not trashing them

1165. and whenever I'm approaching them

1166. I can be kind and do good

1167. why because that's how Jesus was

1168. and a lot of to a lot of people

1169. and so we should have the same type of attitude

1170. towards the Zacchaeuses of this world

  1171. the sinners the publicans

1172. even the prostitutes and the harlots

1173. gov would a second Timothy chapter two

1174. so we talked about four groups

1175. here's a fifth group that I want to talk about

1176. is people that are just lost in general

  1177. maybe they're not even

  1178. they're not even

1179. going in the right direction

  1180. they're just straight lost

  1181. well

1182. how do we approach those individuals

1183. the same we should be friendly

1184. I mean think about this

1185. we if we should be friendly to people that are just lost

1186. friendly to people that are just headed in the right direction

1187. people just just Christian in general

1188. people that are in our denomination

1189. how much more should it be

1190. to people in our own church

  1191. you know

1192. like it starts getting silly

1193. when you can't even be friendly

1194. towards people in your own church

1195. and people that you're around on a regular basis

1196. and you know what those are the people

1197. you should try your best to be the most friendly to

1198. because you're going to be around them the most

1199. it makes the most sense

1200. to be the friendliest of the people

1201. that you're going to be around the most

1202. second Timothy chapter two look at verse 25

1203. in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves

1204. if God peradventure will give them repentance

1205. to the acknowledging of the truth

1206. and that they may recover themselves

1207. of the snare of the devil

1208. for taking captive by him at his will

1209. you know we should be gentle and kind

1210. towards the lost and hoping that they'll be saved

  1211. your co-workers

1212. people you meet out in the public

1213. hey we should be kind to the muslim and the hindu

1214. and just the random person in this

1215. in this cafe and the catholic and whatever

1216. we should try to win them over with meekness

1217. and try to give them grace

1218. and try to hope that they get saved

1219. right you know i've knocked on a lot of doors

  1220. of muslims hindus whatever

1221. even jews believe it or not

1222. and you know what i was kind to that person

1223. even all the things i know and believe about their religion

1224. and i did offer them the gospel

1225. and i have i've given the gospel to jews

1226. i've tried to give them the gospel

1227. and tried to get them saved

  1228. i don't believe i ever have

  1229. you know if i did i didn't know

  1230. i got a jew saved right

  1231. but i i'm not it's not because i won't try

1232. it's not because i wouldn't be nice to them

1233. i'll be nice to any of them

1234. and i'll try to give them the gospel

1235. and i want to try and get them saved

1236. you know go to 1 Corinthians chapter nine

1237. i think that i'm proving my points

  1238. sufficiently in the text

1239. but you know so you search the scriptures

1240. now again i get that there's boundaries

1241. and and you know for me

1242. boundaries i'm not going to be friendly

  1243. towards false prophets

1244. i'm not going to be friendly

1245. towards rep or bait sodomites

1246. and i'm not going to be friendly

1247. towards people who are attacking

1248. the work of the lord

  1249. okay so i i i do have boundaries

1250. and i do have groups that i would say

1251. you know what i'm not going to be

  1252. friendly towards this group

1253. and you know i think there's personal

1254. enemies that are distinct from

  1255. enemies of the lord

1256. and people attacking our church

1257. and attacking soul winning okay

1258. so don't conflate these obviously

1259. they're also my enemy a lot of times

1260. too but i'm just saying like

  1261. it's not because i'm just reciprocating

  1262. evil for my enemies

1263. it's like man if you're trying to

1264. destroy church and destroy the bible

1265. and doctrine and soul winning

  1266. and what it's like

1267. yeah i'm gonna fight you yeah i'm gonna

1268. i'm gonna take you to task okay

1269. so we have boundaries we have groups

1270. that we need to not necessarily

1271. be friendly towards you know someone

1272. this is not just someone this is a

1273. many people have asked me

1274. and and asked about questions like

1275. what about a first Corinthians five

  1276. issue you know

1277. what if someone in our church is

  1278. actually excommunicated our church

1279. discipline like how should i approach

  1280. that person

1281. there's nothing wrong with being

  1282. friendly towards the person

  1283. but again there's a difference

1284. between being friendly and being

  1285. friends with right

  1286. there's a difference between me

1287. you know lovingly being nice to the

1288. person and kind and hoping good for them

1289. and telling them they need to change

1290. and then hang out with them and acting

  1291. like everything's normal

1292. okay so i can't hang out with you

1293. and be normal because you have this

1294. issue in your life and i need you to

  1295. change it

  1296. but that doesn't mean i can't text you

1297. or call you when you reach out to

1298. me like i don't have to ghost you

  1299. or something necessarily

  1300. but that doesn't mean i'm also i'm

1301. not going to actively pursue

  1302. relationship with you

1303. i'm not actively trying to engage and

  1304. have fellowship with you

1305. because you're under church discipline

1306. but you know i treat them like a heath

  1307. in the publican

1308. you know i still file my taxes

  1309. i don't like the tax guy

  1310. you know i still

1311. i you know if someone out at my

1312. workplace says hi i say hi to them

1313. you know i'm nice to my co-workers

1314. i'm nice to the tax man

1315. i'm nice to the police officers

1316. it's not that i ignore them or

  1317. something like that

1318. but you know what i'm not going to

1319. invite the tax guy over for

  1320. Thanksgiving

  1321. you know

1322. i'm not i'm not just welcoming in

1323. everybody that i work with

1324. to just hang out with me and watch my

1325. kids and whatever it's like i'm not

  1326. i'm not we're not that close

1327. you know what i mean

  1328. that doesn't mean i can't be friendly

1329. and so someone kicked out a church

1330. i'm not saying you can't be friendly

1331. but don't be friends with and don't

  1332. just take

1333. you know don't take the actual

1334. discipline off the table from them

1335. it's like oh well you know our kids

  1336. they're they're supposed to be disciplined

1337. because they didn't eat their dinner

1338. so they don't get dessert

1339. so i bought them a candy bar instead

1340. it's just like well what the heck you

1341. know like now they're now they're not

1342. going to learn their lesson right

1343. if they didn't eat their dinner they

1344. don't get any dessert it's not like

1345. well they don't get the cake

1346. they can have a candy bar instead

1347. it's just like no no dessert

  1348. right because you're totally

1349. undermining it i mean think about it

1350. if you're trying to discipline your

1351. kids and grandma and grandpa are over

1352. and you're like all right they didn't

1353. eat their dinner so no cake

1354. and they're like okay well i'll give

  1355. them a Snickers instead

1356. and it's just like no grandma

1357. no grandma you're totally undermining

  1358. the discipline here

1359. they need to just not have any candy

1360. we need to all say no no desserts

1361. because they need to be punished

  1362. that's the whole point

1363. okay but that doesn't mean you can't

  1364. be kind to them

1365. that doesn't mean as grandma grandpa

1366. you can't be like all right honey

  1367. please eat your dinner

1368. so then you can have some cake

1369. we want you to have cake

  1370. we're on your team

  1371. we're a team have cake

1372. but if you won't eat your dinner

  1373. no cake you know

1374. it this is the attitude

1375. but you know what grandma and grandpa

1376. don't need to take the cake

1377. and shove it in their face

1378. and be like ha ha you're an idiot or

  1379. something you know

1380. it's just like hey we can be nice

  1381. we can be kind

1382. it's not like oh now we can't even

1383. talk to you because you can't have

  1384. cake

1385. it's just like hey we want to make

1386. sure that we're keeping the

  1387. discipline enforced

1388. but we can still be friendly

1389. we can still be kind

1390. we're still on your team

  1391. we're still for you

1392. we just want you to change

1393. we just want you to get it right

1394. we just want you to do the good thing

  1395. okay

  1396. first Corinthians chapter nine

1397. we have the Apostle Paul

1398. he says in verse 20

1399. and unto the Jews I became as a Jew

1400. that's hard for some of you

  1401. okay

1402. would you be willing to become a Jew

1403. to get a Jew saved

  1404. you know that's a tough

  1405. question

1406. that I might gain the Jews

1407. to them that are under the law

  1408. as under the law

1409. that I might gain them that are under the law

1410. to them that are without law

1411. as without law being not without

  1412. law to God

1413. but under the law to Christ

1414. that I might gain them that are

1415. without law to the weak

  1416. became as weak

1417. that I might gain the weak

1418. I made all things to all men

1419. that I might by all means save some

  1420. notice Paul's attitude

1421. I'm going to be friendly to everyone

  1422. I'm going to condescend

1423. to men of low estate

  1424. someone that's weak

  1425. I'll be weak

1426. so what would that look like

1427. and again this is just my personal application

1428. you can take this however you want

1429. you studied on your own

  1430. alright

1431. but what if someone's not the strongest Christian

1432. maybe I don't necessarily have to brag

1433. about how awesome I am a Christian

  1434. when I'm around them

1435. and again I'm not saying that

1436. we don't try to encourage them

1437. and give them zeal to serve God

1438. but I'm just saying we don't look down on them

1439. and rub their nose in it

1440. you know we're trying to be helpful

1441. we're trying to be kind

1442. we're trying to encourage them

1443. to the weak became I as weak

1444. why because he wants to get people saved

1445. he wants to get people in the right church

1446. and again obviously this context could be

  1447. someone that's you know a Christian

1448. but they're not saved yet

1449. and you're just trying to help them

  1450. you're not just like oh you're

1451. you have the wrong bible

  1452. and you're stupid

1453. you don't go on missions trips

1454. and you don't even dress right

  1455. you know it's it's like hey

1456. oh you like the bible I like the bible

1457. you know hey let me show you some verses

1458. you know just being kind

  1459. just being nice

1460. not necessarily trying to be over spiritual

1461. being hyper spiritual a holier than now

1462. look our closest friends should not be

  1463. unsaved people

1464. it should not be false religion

1465. we should never be ecumenical

1466. okay pluralism is a false doctrine

1467. okay but there's nothing in the bible

1468. saying that you can't like other Christians

1469. there's nothing in the bible

1470. saying you can't be friendly

  1471. towards other Christians

1472. in fact I would argue it's saying the exact opposite

1473. we should be kind to these people

1474. and you know what I hope that Calvinists

1475. just change and become evangelistic

1476. let's just destroy the doctrine of Calvinism

1477. let's just destroy the doctrine of Zionism

1478. let's just destroy the preacher of rapture

  1479. and I think we're doing it

1480. okay I'm just gonna be honest with you

  1481. I think we're destroying let's destroy dispensationalism

1482. but you know what I think you can be nice

  1483. to these people

1484. obviously if they believe in multiple

1485. gospels and oneness and whatever

1486. yeah we get it there's heretics

1487. don't be nice to them fine

1488. but there's probably a lot of people

1489. caught up in some of these false doctrines

1490. that are still nice people

1491. and we should be we should be kind to them

1492. you know the bible says

1493. faithful are the wounds of a friend

1494. so I want to go to a few more places

1495. and and look at a few more verses

1496. but go to Titus chapter 3

    Titus 3 chapter mention

  1497. so let's let's just kind of

  1498. put it all together

  1499. and and talk about

1500. what are some of these attitudes that people

1501. will exhibit towards these individuals

1502. because we're talking about being kind

  1503. being friendly

1504. why can't we be friends with these groups

1505. well a lot of times what people will do

  1506. is they will gossip

1507. they will back talk other people

1508. they have a negative attitude towards them

1509. they use envy and pride and hatred

  1510. to attack them

1511. and we should not employ these these elements

1512. you know they they think that other denominations

1513. are just quote bad people

1514. instead of correcting them with a desire

  1515. to see them change

  1516. they'll trash people

1517. and they will disrupt efforts to reach them

1518. where you know it's kind of like the Pharisees

1519. are trying to disrupt Jesus from

1520. ministering to sinners and publicans

1521. and these type of individuals

  1522. by criticizing his ministry

1523. and we should rather be trying to welcome them

1524. we should try to reach them

1525. we should be kind to them

1526. and you know it's it shouldn't be a shock

1527. if Pastor Shelley is nice to people

  1528. in these categories

1529. but there will be groups that I won't be nice to

  1530. right

  1531. Titus chapter number three

  1532. look at verse one

1533. put them in mind to be subject to principalities

1534. and powers to obey magistrates

1535. to be ready to every good work

1536. to speak evil of no man

  1537. to be no brawlers

  1538. but gentle

  1539. showing all meekness

  1540. unto all men

1541. for we ourselves also are sometimes

  1542. foolish disobedient

  1543. deceived

1544. serving divers lusts and pleasures

1545. living in malice and envy

1546. hateful and hating one another

1547. but after that the kindness and love of God

1548. our Savior toward man appeared

1549. not by works of righteousness

  1550. which we have done

1551. but according to his mercy

1552. he saved us by the washing of regeneration

1553. renewing of the Holy Ghost

1554. which he shed on us abundantly

1555. through Jesus Christ our Savior

1556. that being justified by his grace

1557. we should be made heirs

1558. according to the hope of eternal life

1559. so what I want to focus in on though

  1560. is in verse three

1561. it's a laundry list of bad problems

1562. but notice what it says in verse three

1563. for we ourselves also were sometimes

  1564. say look

1565. this isn't like oh these people act that way

1566. we acted like that too

1567. and so that's why we don't want to necessarily

1568. look down on other individuals

1569. and have such a negative attitude

  1570. towards other people

1571. because we ourselves also were sometimes

  1572. foolish and hateful

  1573. and having malice

  1574. and having envy

  1575. and having bad attitudes

1576. so we want to be friendly

1577. we need to be friendly

  1578. towards our other brothers

1579. and sisters in Christ in church

  1580. and you know

1581. hey maybe at first when you came to church

1582. or maybe newer in the Christian faith

1583. you were kind of nasty to people

1584. or you were a little envious of people

1585. or you were hateful towards people

1586. or you had a bad attitude towards people

1587. well you need to change that

1588. you need to be more gracious to people

1589. you need more kind to people

1590. oh well these people aren't nice to me

  1591. I don't care

1592. you'd be nice to them anyways

1593. why can't you just be

1594. why can't we just be friends

1595. there's so much screwed up in this world

1596. why can't we be friends

1597. we need to be friends in this room

1598. we need to be friends in this church

1599. we need to be friends

  1600. with hey other Christians

  1601. and other groups

1602. and we need not have this attitude

1603. where we're pitting each other

  1604. against each other

1605. and and from envy's perspective

1606. why why do a lot of people hate the new IMB

1607. I'm just going to tell you it's envy

1608. it's pride and envy in a lot of ways

1609. and we don't want to then participate

  1610. in gossip and slandering

1611. and railing against these people

1612. go to Proverbs chapter 17

    Proverbs 17 chapter mention

  1613. Proverbs chapter 17

    Proverbs 17 chapter mention

1614. I'm just going to look at a few more verses

1615. but hey I can be friendly

1616. towards people that are screwed up

1617. or have problems or have issues

  1618. it's like I'm not threatened

1619. by being friends with someone that's

  1620. that's pre-trib

1621. you know it's like well why are they

1622. threatened well because they're wrong

  1623. that's why they're threatened

1624. you know but but in the day

  1625. that doesn't mean that they're

  1626. even though they're wrong

1627. and even if they treat me poorly

1628. I can't still be friendly to them

1629. and you know I just what I don't want to do

1630. and what I don't want to see

1631. is that we necessarily are just always

1632. trashing everybody that dislikes us

1633. and trashing everybody that's not

  1634. in agreement with us

1635. you know why don't we just be kind

1636. and meek and loving towards them

  1637. anyways

1638. and try to win them over

  1639. with goodness

1640. and say hey you know

1641. we're still kind to them

1642. I mean I've had people tell me

1643. or ask me they're like

1644. do you even let divorce people come to

  1645. your church or whatever

  1646. and it's just like

1647. yeah it's like half the congregation

  1648. bro I'm just gonna

  1649. I don't know if it's half

  1650. but I'm just joking

  1651. it's just like

  1652. it's it's it's like silly

1653. you know I don't want to have this

  1654. attitude of like oh

1655. just because you preach against divorce

1656. not divorce people can't come

1657. or oh you preach against tattoos

1658. people with tattoos can't show up

1659. or oh you preach against

1660. you know whatever I mean

1661. pretty soon it'll be no one here

  1662. okay

  1663. okay just like

  1664. say the

1665. you know we can't be guilty of these

  1666. sins

1667. but at the end of the day

  1668. I also don't want to say

1669. well then we can't preach the

  1670. Bible now

1671. you know let God be true

1672. and every man a liar

  1673. all right

1674. let us be ashamed of our sin

1675. and not ashamed of the word of God

1676. but that does not mean

1677. that we can't be kind and nice to people

  1678. look at Proverbs 17 verse 9

    Proverbs 17:9

1679. he that cover the transgression

  1680. seeketh love

1681. but he that repeated the matter

  1682. separated very friends

1683. you know we shouldn't be going around

  1684. telling everybody's dirty secrets

1685. and trying to trash people

  1686. you know we should

1687. we should rather love people

1688. and wish good for them

  1689. look at verse 17

1690. a friend loveeth at all times

1691. and a brother is born for adversity

1692. you know we should just be kind

1693. and you know it just

  1694. it just

  1695. it always puzzles me

1696. when people just can't be friends with somebody

1697. that it doesn't make sense

1698. why they can't be friendly

1699. you know and even if you don't like someone

1700. even if you don't agree with someone

1701. you know you could still be friendly

  1702. towards them

1703. and you know it's not friendly to trash them

1704. it's not friendly to talk down about them

1705. and talk evil of them

1706. and talk behind their back

1707. and act like they're stupid

1708. and a fool and idiot

  1709. that's not being friendly

  1710. that's not being kind

  1711. it's not being loving

  1712. you know it's like

  1713. and we just

1714. we always just choose a group to demonize

  1715. and you know like

1716. I'm going to use a specific example but

  1717. obviously I don't believe in racism

  1718. I don't think racism is good

1719. but his thing is there really a problem

1720. being me being friendly towards a racist

  1721. and look

  1722. before like X

  1723. before Twitter

1724. I didn't even think racism really existed anymore

1725. like I kind of thought

1726. like most racism was just

  1727. us having prejudices

1728. and stereotypes against different groups

  1729. but I was like

  1730. there's not really anybody

  1731. who actually believes

1732. that one group of people

1733. are genetically and physically superior

  1734. than other groups

1735. and then X just shattered that belief okay

  1736. there really are

1737. there really are people still today

  1738. that

  1739. advocate those of viewpoints

1740. and look it is not

  1741. like just white people

1742. or races against black people

1743. that is a stupid narrative okay

1744. there is plenty of black people

1745. that are races against white people

1746. look I was out door knocking today

  1747. today

1748. and I was talking to this

  1749. this black guy

1750. and I was being kind

1751. I was trying to give him the gospel

1752. and then he just kind of drops this

  1753. towards the end

  1754. he's just like

1755. yeah well I'm one of the 12 tribes

  1756. and I'm just like

1757. I'm like what do you mean by that

  1758. like physically

  1759. he's like yeah

1760. and he's trying to tell me

1761. how he's descended from Abraham

1762. and we guys got dreads down to here

  1763. and he's like okay

1764. and and I'm just like

1765. he's like yeah the whole bible is in Africa

1766. and I'm like what do you mean

1767. he's like yeah everything is in Africa

1768. and I was like well

  1769. I think it's like Middle East

1770. is the most is the biggest setting

  1771. I know there's a portion about Africa

  1772. I get it you know there's

  1773. there's Egypt and stuff

  1774. I said what about

1775. you know the New Testament

1776. isn't it like mostly focused in

1777. Greece and the Greek part of the world

1778. and and he's just like no

  1779. and I'm like okay

1780. how about like the first epistle

  1781. Romans

  1782. Romans

  1783. is Rome in Africa

  1784. and he's like I don't know

1785. and I'm just like okay

1786. what about what about Corinth

  1787. I'm like Corinth

  1788. Galatia

  1789. Ephesus

  1790. Thessalonica

1791. how about how about this

1792. where it says the seven churches

  1793. which are in Asia

  1794. and he's just like

1795. yeah the whole bible's about Africa

1796. and I'm just like okay wow

1797. and he's just like yeah

1798. because you know us people

1799. we you know we're the chosen

1800. and we were supposed to

1801. you know be in slavery for 400 years

1802. but now we've come out of it

1803. and we're supposed to return back home

  1804. to Ethiopia

1805. and I'm just like what in the world

1806. this is it was like

1807. this is a unique type of Zionism

1808. I've never heard of this Zionism

1809. where they're going back to Ethiopia

  1810. okay there's actually

  1811. I mean then I

1812. then I was like okay

1813. I got grok about this or whatever

  1814. okay

1815. there is a belief out there

1816. that the queen of Sheba is from Ethiopia

1817. and that she she had a child with Solomon

1818. and that there is a

  1819. the lineage of Solomon

  1820. like descendants in Ethiopia

1821. and then there's groups of

  1822. Rastafarians

  1823. and Black Hebrew Israelites

  1824. and stuff that believe

1825. that that Ethiopia is Zion

1826. and that they all need to return to Zion

  1827. okay

1828. some people might become a Zionist

1829. after the sermon I'm just kidding

  1830. it was just like

  1831. what in the world

  1832. but it's like it's

  1833. I showed him I said

  1834. well what about

  1835. what about the bible

1836. it says that Jesus's head is white

1837. he said no it's his hairs

1838. I was like no it's his head

1839. then I showed him revelation

1840. it says his head and his hair are white

1841. and he's like oh that's like his threads

1842. I was just like what

  1843. okay I'll give up

1844. but I said I don't care what color he is

1845. because it doesn't matter to me

  1846. but it's like funny it's like

1847. this guy thinks that Black people

1848. are better than everybody else

1849. and they're the real chosen

1850. and look you go to an Asian part of the world

  1851. they have Asian Jesus

1852. you go to Mexican places

  1853. it's a Mexican Jesus

  1854. you go it's like

1855. everybody has their flavor of racism

1856. you go to some places in Asia

  1857. they hate other Asians

1858. and we're like y'all look the same

1859. you know that's our joke or whatever

  1860. it's just like hey

  1861. it's just silly

  1862. because look I'm not a racist

  1863. I don't care about that

1864. but you know what if someone is a racist

1865. I'm not gonna be like

1866. why can't be friendly towards you

1867. you know being a racist isn't the worst sin

  1868. in the bible

1869. I don't know if you know that

  1870. okay

  1871. it's not the worst

1872. and you know in a lot of cases

  1873. people are just racist

1874. because of personal experiences they've had

  1875. right

1876. I mean it's like oh why does North Korea

  1877. not like South Korea

  1878. probably because South Koreans

1879. had a bad experience with North Koreans

1880. I mean it's just probably what happened

1881. does that mean that they should just

  1882. then demonize

1883. that whole group of people

1884. no that was probably an overreaction

1885. just like hey are all Cretians liars

1886. no that's probably an overreaction

  1887. but I bet there's probably

1888. some bad Cretians out there

1889. it's like hey is it is it right

1890. to just demonize all Jews

1891. because of what most of them are like

  1892. no that's not right

  1893. okay

1894. that was not a lot of answers that

  1895. okay

  1896. it's like hey

1897. obviously you have bad interactions

  1898. with certain groups

  1899. we I mean

  1900. you know obviously

1901. there's probably a lot of black people

1902. that were treated poorly by white people

1903. and so they become races against them

  1904. or vice versa

1905. they get their bikes stolen enough times

1906. they get really mad about that

  1907. okay

  1908. and then look

1909. I can make racist jokes

  1910. because I'm not racist

1911. but at the end of the day

  1912. it's just like look

1913. they're not the worst people

  1914. because often you

1915. you know what they're doing

1916. they're basing their belief system

  1917. on things they've seen

1918. and to them it's kind of a pattern

  1919. of recognition

  1920. whereas it's like there's some things

1921. in this world that are just bad

1922. and I don't want any association with

1923. you know if someone is

  1924. a heretic

1925. if they're believing false doctrine

1926. like that's scary to me

1927. and I don't want to have anything to do that

  1928. when they're a denying reality

1929. that is scary to me

  1930. yeah

  1931. you know reality denial

  1932. is way different

1933. than going a little overboard

  1934. on your pattern recognition

  1935. yeah okay

  1936. that's a completely different

  1937. group of people

  1938. you know

1939. flat earthers are not on the same level

1940. in this in this category

1941. because look they're denying reality

  1942. and they're often teaching

1943. the bible teaches this kind of nonsense

1944. okay and look I get it

  1945. there's races out there

1946. that teach the bible teaches this

  1947. and they're wrong too

1948. and both need to be corrected

1949. but at the end of the day

1950. I can still be friendly

1951. to whoever I want to be friendly with

  1952. but reality deniers

1953. that's another boundary for me

1954. and that's scary for me

1955. when every person I've ever been around

  1956. that's a flat earther

  1957. is like

  1958. super wicked

  1959. evil on drugs

1960. stealing money from our church

  1961. like committing horrible crimes

1962. sorry for me not wanting to be their best friend

  1963. whereas it's like

1964. yeah there's probably some people

1965. that I disagree with on race

1966. and they're a little bit over the board on that

1967. but I don't even have bad interactions with them

1968. why can't I be nice to them

  1969. you know

  1970. it's like silly

  1971. to think this way

1972. and why can't we just be friends anyways

1973. if you want to be friends of flat earthers

  1974. go ahead

  1975. okay

1976. you guys go and geek out

  1977. on being weird

  1978. all right

  1979. whatever you

  1980. you reach them

  1981. okay

  1982. but

1983. but at the end of the day like

  1984. hey

  1985. I think I'm pretty

1986. pretty generous in my friendship

1987. and I want to be that way

1988. I want to be considered someone's very generous in my friendship

  1989. and you know what

1990. we should have this attitude of in general

1991. like why can't we be friends

  1992. I have boundaries

1993. and I'm not saying we shouldn't have boundaries

1994. but I'm trying to hope

  1995. hopefully expand your

  1996. comfortability

1997. to be a little bit friendlier

1998. to some people that maybe

1999. you haven't been as friendly towards

2000. those that have traded you badly

2001. those that have been negative towards you

  2002. your enemies

2003. people that maybe are screwed up doctrineally

2004. maybe people that aren't even saved

  2005. but just

2006. hey they were head in the right direction

2007. you know maybe we should consider

2008. being a little friendly towards those people

2009. you know I've been criticized

2010. for people that I've had as guests on

2011. the Baptist bias and stuff like that

2012. but you know in general

2013. I'm just trying to reach out to as many people as I can

  2014. and be friendly

2015. and try to get people saved

  2016. and you know

  2017. yes

2018. there are people that are saved

2019. that are not new IB

  2020. I get it

  2021. I can like them

2022. I can be friends with them

  2023. I like

2024. I like a lot more old IB churches

  2025. than they like me

  2026. okay

  2027. yeah

2028. and I just wish they would be like us

  2029. I believe that

2030. I want them to be like us

2031. but even if they're not

2032. I can still be friendly towards them

  2033. and wish them well

  2034. and do them good

2035. and we don't want to be this elitist club

2036. we're always looking down on everybody else

2037. and we act like we're better than everybody else

  2038. and that we're superior

  2039. no

2040. even if we were theoretically

  2041. which I don't even think that's necessarily true

2042. but even if we were

2043. we should condescend amenable estate

2044. and we should have this attitude

2045. why can't we be friends

  2046. let's close in prayer

2047. thank you heavenly father so much for your word

2048. thank you so much for

  2049. giving us grace

2050. and being kind to us

  2051. and loving us

2052. I pray that we would take that same example

2053. and we would apply it to others

2054. that we'd love our brethren

2055. that we'd love those in this church

2056. I pray that you would help

2057. just people to have a kind

  2058. and a gracious attitude

  2059. towards people in church

  2060. towards other baptists

  2061. towards other baptist churches

  2062. to other Christians

  2063. to those who are

  2064. seeking the Lord

2065. that are not saved yet

  2066. to the lost

2067. and I pray that you would help us to balance

  2068. our discernment

  2069. with our friendship

  2070. and with our friendliness

2071. and that we would be kind towards people

  2072. that maybe we

2073. haven't been in the past

2074. but that we should be

2075. I pray that you would help us
