  1. Obadiah, the vision of Obadiah. Thus says the Lord God

  2. concerning Edom. We have heard a report from the Lord,

  3. and a messenger has been sent among the nations. Rise up.

  4. Let us rise against her for battle. Behold, I will

  5. make you small among the nations. You shall be utterly despised.

  6. The pride of your heart has deceived you. You who

  7. live in the clefts of the rock, in your lofty dwelling,

  8. Who say in your heart, who will bring me down

  9. to the ground? Though you soar aloft like the eagle,

  10. though your nest is set among the stars. From there

  11. I will bring you down, declares the Lord. If thieves

  12. came to you, If plunderers came by night, how you

  13. have been destroyed. Would they not steal only enough for themselves?

  14. If great gatherers came to you, would they not leave gleanings?

  15. How Esau has been pillaged, his treasures sought out. All

  16. your allies have driven you to your border. Those at

  17. peace with you have deceived you. They have prevailed against you.

  18. Those who eat your bread have set a trap beneath you.

  19. You have no understanding. Will I not on that day,

  20. declares the Lord, destroy the wise men out of edom

  21. and understanding out of Mount Esau, and your mighty men

  22. shall be dismayed o timon, so that every man from

  23. Mount Esau will be cut off by slaughter because of

  24. the violence done to your brother Jacob. Shame shall cover you,

  25. and you shall be cut off forever. On the day

  26. that you stood aloof, on the day that strangers carried

  27. off his wealth, and foreigners entered his gates and cast

  28. lots for Jerusalem, you were like one of them. But

  29. do not gloat over the day of your brother in

  30. the day of his misfortune. Do not rejoice over the

  31. people of Judah in the day of their ruin. Do

  32. not boast in the day of distress. Do not enter

  33. the gate of my people in the day of their calamity.

  34. Do not gloat over his disaster in the day of

  35. his calamity. Do not loute his wealth in the day

  36. of his calamity. Do not stand at the crossroads to

  37. cut off his fugitives. Do not hand over his survivors

  38. in the day of distress. For the day of the

  39. Lord is near upon all the nations. As you have done,

  40. it shall be done to you. Your deeds shall return

  41. on your own head. For as you have drunk on

  42. my holy mountain. So all the nations shall drink continually.

  43. They shall drink and swallow, and shall be as though

  44. they had never been. But in Mount Zion there shall

  45. be those who escape, and it shall be holy. And

  46. the House of Jacob shall possess their own possessions. The

  47. House of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house

  48. of Joseph aflay, and the House of Esau stubble. They

  49. shall burn them and consume them, and there shall be

  50. no survivor for the House of Esau. For the Lord

  51. has spoken. Those of the Negeb shall possess Mount Esau,

  52. and those of the Shafilos shall possess the land of

  53. the Philistines. They shall possess the land of Ephraim and

  54. the land of Samaria, and Benjamin shall possess Gilea. The

  55. exiles of this host of the people of Israel shall

  56. possess the land of the Canaanites as far as Xeriphath,

  57. and the exiles of Jerusalem who are in Sepphorad shall

  58. possess the cities of the Negeb. Saviors shall go up

  59. to Mount Zion to rule Mount Esau, and the kingdom

  60. shall be the lords,
