  1. First Peter, First Peter one one Peter, An Apostle of

  2. Jesus Christ to those who are elect exiles of the

  3. dispersion in Pontus, Galicia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia. According to

  4. the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of

  5. the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ, and for sprinkling

  6. with His blood, may grace and peace be multiplied to you.

  7. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

  8. According to his great mercy, he has caused us to

  9. be born again to a living hope through the resurrection

  10. of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that

  11. is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven. For you,

  12. who by God's power are being guarded through faith for

  13. a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

  14. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while,

  15. if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so

  16. that the tested genuineness of your faith, more precious than

  17. gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may

  18. be found to result in praise and glory and honor.

  19. At the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not

  20. seen him, you love him. Though you do not now

  21. see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy

  22. that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome

  23. of your faith, the salvation of your souls. Concerning this salvation,

  24. the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to

  25. be yours searched and inquired, carefully, inquiring what person or

  26. time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when

  27. he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories.

  28. It was revealed to them that they were serving not

  29. themselves but you in the things that have now been

  30. announced to you through those who preach the good news

  31. to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things

  32. into which angels long to look. Therefore, preparing your minds

  33. for action, and being sober minded, set your hope fully

  34. on the grace that will be brought to you at

  35. the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not

  36. be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance. But

  37. as he who called you as holy, you also be

  38. holy in all your conduct. Since it is written.

  39. You shall be holy.

  40. For I am Holy. And if you call on Him

  41. as Father, who judges impartially according to each one's deeds,

  42. conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile,

  43. knowing that you were ransom from the feudal ways inherent

  44. from your forefathers, not with perishable things such a silver

  45. or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like

  46. that of a lamb, without blemish or spot. He was

  47. foreknown before the foundation of the world, but was made

  48. manifest in the last times for the sake of you, who,

  49. through him are believers in God, who raised him from

  50. the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith

  51. and hope are in God, having purified your souls by

  52. your obedience to the truth. For a sincere brotherly love,

  53. love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you

  54. have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of

  55. imperishable through the living and abiding Word of God.

  56. For all flesh is like grass, and all its glory

  57. like the flower of grass. The grass withers and the

  58. flower falls, But the word of the Lord remains forever.

  59. And this word is the good news that was preached

  60. to you one Peter two. So put away all malice

  61. and all deceit, and hypocrisy, and envy and all slander.

  62. Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that

  63. by it you may grow up into salvation. If indeed

  64. you have tasted that the Lord is good as you

  65. come to him, a living stone rejected by men, But

  66. in the sight of God, chosen and precious you, yourselves,

  67. like living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house,

  68. to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable

  69. to God through Jesus Christ. For it stands in scripture.

  70. Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone,

  71. chosen and precious, And whoever believes in Him will not

  72. be put to shame.

  73. So the honor is for you who believe. But for

  74. those who do not believe.

  75. The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,

  76. and a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense.

  77. They stumble because they disobey the Word as they were

  78. destined to do. But you are a chosen race, a

  79. royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession.

  80. That you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called

  81. you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you

  82. were not a people, but now you are God's people.

  83. Once you had not received mercy, but now you have

  84. received mercy. Beloved of it. I urge you, as sojourners

  85. and exiles, to abstain from the passions of the flesh,

  86. which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among

  87. the gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you

  88. as evil doers, they may see your good deeds and

  89. glorify God on the day of visitation. Be subject, for

  90. the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be

  91. to the Emperor as supreme or to governors as sent

  92. by him, to punish those who do evil, and to

  93. praise those who do good. For this is the will

  94. of God, that by doing good you should put to

  95. silence the ignorance of foolish people. Live as people who

  96. are free, not using your freedom as a cover up

  97. for evil, but living as servants of God. Honor everyone,

  98. love the brotherhood, Fear God, Honor the Emperor. Servants. Be

  99. subject to your masters with all respect, not only to

  100. the good and gentle, but also to the unj For

  101. this is a gracious thing. When mindful of God want

  102. to endure sorrows while suffering unjustly. For what credit is

  103. it if when you sin and are beaten for it,

  104. you endure, But if when you do good and suffer

  105. for it you endure. This is a gracious thing the

  106. sight of God. For to this you have been called,

  107. because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example

  108. so that you might follow in his steps. He committed

  109. no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. When

  110. he was reviled, he did not revile in return. When

  111. he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued in trusting

  112. himself to Him who judges justly. He himself bore our

  113. sins in his body on the tree, that we might

  114. die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds,

  115. you have been healed, for you were straying like sheep,

  116. but have now returned to the shepherd and overseer of

  117. your souls. First Peter three. Likewise, wives, be subject to

  118. your own husbands, so that even if some do not

  119. obey the word, they may be one without a word

  120. by the conduct of their wives. When they see you

  121. respectful and pure conduct. Do not let your adorning be external.

  122. The braiding of hair, and the putting on a gold

  123. jewelry or the clothing you wear. But let your adorning

  124. be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable

  125. beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's

  126. sight is very precious. For this is how the holy

  127. women who hope and God used to adorn themselves by

  128. submitting to their own husbands, as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling

  129. him Lord. And you are her children if you do

  130. good and do not fear anything that is frightening. Likewise, husbands,

  131. live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor

  132. to the woman as the weaker vessels, since they are

  133. heirs with you of the grace of life, so that

  134. your prayers may not be hindered. Finally, all of you

  135. have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart,

  136. and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil,

  137. or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless For

  138. to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.

  139. For whoever desires to love life and see good days,

  140. Let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips

  141. from speaking to sea. Let him turn away from evil.

  142. And do good.

  143. Let him seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes

  144. of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears

  145. are open to their prayer. But the face of the

  146. Lord is against those who do evil.

  147. Now who is there to harm you? If you are

  148. zealous for what is good? But even if you should

  149. suffer for righteousness sake, you will be blessed. Have no

  150. fear of them, nor be troubled. But in your heart's

  151. honor Christ, the Lord is holy. Always being prepared to

  152. make a defense to anyone who asks you for a

  153. reason for the hope that is in you. Yet do

  154. it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so

  155. that when you are slandered, those who revile your good

  156. behavior in Christ may be put to shame. For it

  157. is better to suffer for doing good, if that should

  158. be God's will, than for doing evil. For Christ also

  159. suffered once for sin, the righteous for the unrighteous, that

  160. he might bring us to God, being put to death

  161. in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit in

  162. which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison

  163. because they formerly did not obey. When God's patience waited

  164. in the days of Noah, while the ark was being

  165. prepared in which a few, that is, eight persons were

  166. brought safely through water. Baptism, which corresponds to this, now

  167. saves you not as a removal of dirt from the body,

  168. but as an appeal to God for a good conscience

  169. through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into

  170. heaven and is at the right hand of God with angels, authorities,

  171. and powers, having been subjected to him first Peter four.

  172. Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with

  173. the same way of thinking. For whoever has suffered in

  174. the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live

  175. for the rest of the time in the flesh, no

  176. longer for human passions, but for the will of God.

  177. For the time that is past suffices for doing what

  178. the gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orders,

  179. drinking parties, and lawless idolatry. With respect to this, they

  180. are surprised when you do not join them in the

  181. same flood of debauchery, and they malign them. But they

  182. will give account to Him who is ready to judge

  183. the living and the dead. For this is why the

  184. Gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that

  185. though judged in the flesh the way people are, they

  186. might live in the spirit the way God does the

  187. end of all things as at hand. Therefore, be self

  188. controlled and sober minded for the sake of your prayers.

  189. Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, Since love covers

  190. a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.

  191. As each has received a gift, use it to serve

  192. one another as good stewards of God's varied grace. Whoever

  193. speaks as one who speaks oracles of God, whoever serves

  194. as one who serves by the strength that God supplies,

  195. in order that in everything God may be glorified through

  196. Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen, beloved,

  197. Do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it

  198. comes upon you to test you, as though something strange

  199. were happening to you, But rejoice insofar as you share

  200. Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad

  201. when His glory is revealed. If you are insulted for

  202. the name of Christ, you are blessed because the spirit

  203. of glory and of God rests upon you. But let

  204. none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief,

  205. or an evildoer, or as a meddler. Yet, if anyone

  206. suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but

  207. let him glorify God in that name. For it is

  208. time for judgment to begin at the household of God.

  209. And if it begins with us, what will be the

  210. outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?

  211. And if the righteous is scarcely saved, what will become

  212. of the ungodly and the sinner?

  213. Therefore, let those who suffer according to God's will, entrust

  214. their souls to a faithful creator while doing good first

  215. Peter five. So I exhort the elders among you as

  216. a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ,

  217. as well as a partaker in the glory that is

  218. going to be revealed. Shepherd the flock of God that

  219. is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly

  220. as God would have you, not for shameful gain, but eagerly,

  221. not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples

  222. to the flock. And when the chief shepherd appears, you

  223. will receive the unfading crown of glory. Likewise, you who

  224. are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all

  225. of you, with humility toward one another.

  226. For God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

  227. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so

  228. that at the proper time He may exalt you, casting

  229. all your anxieties on him, because He cares for you.

  230. Be sober minded, Be watchful your adversary. The devil prowls

  231. around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him,

  232. firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of

  233. suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.

  234. And after you have suffered a little, while the God

  235. of all grace, who has called you to his eternal

  236. glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish

  237. you to Him. Be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

  238. By Sylvanus, a faithful brother, as I regard him, I

  239. have written briefly to you, exhorting and declaring that this

  240. is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it.

  241. She who is a Babylon, who is likewise chosen, sends

  242. you greetings, and so does Mark, my son. Greet one

  243. another with the kiss of love. Peace to all of

  244. you who are in Christ.
