  1. We began understanding last week as we began looking here in Mark chapter 4.

    Mark 4 chapter mention

  2. ! Mark chapter 4 is where we're going to be finding our passage and picking up here this morning.

    Mark 4 chapter mention

  3. ! And we see as Jesus was there with his disciples,

  4. and he had told them that they were going to go across to the other side.

  5. And we looked at the disciples' story.

  6. We began to learn some truths about Christ's presence.

  7. Because sometimes people enter into it with a wrong idea.

  8. You know, have you ever noticed that if you enter into something with a wrong perception or a wrong idea,

  9. you always are disappointed?

  10. Because it wasn't the fact of what happens because there was something wrong in your thinking.

  11. And when we enter into it with a wrong thinking, we get wrong realities that come about

  12. because it's like when this happens, my world's upside down.

  13. And we saw, if you remember here, let's go ahead and read through John here.

  14. Or excuse me, John Mark.

  15. Mark here this morning.

  16. Chapter 4.

  17. Let's pick up here in verse 35.

  18. And it says,

  19. And the same day when the even was come, he saith unto them,

  20. let us pass over unto the other side.

  21. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship,

  22. and they were with him also, other little ships.

  23. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship so that it was now full.

  24. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow.

  25. And they awake him, and said to him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

  26. And he arose and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace be still.

  27. The wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

  28. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful?

  29. How is it that ye have no faith?

  30. And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another,

  31. What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

  32. Let's pray.

  33. Heavenly Father, as we come before you once again this morning, Lord,

  34. we're thankful for your word.

  35. Lord, we're thankful for your presence.

  36. We're thankful for just the reality that you don't try to give us misconceptions,

  37. or to mislead us.

  38. Lord, but you tell us the truth.

  39. Lord, and we need some truth here today, even about your presence,

  40. and the realities of life, to understand how those things flow together.

  41. Lord, pray just it would work in a mighty way in our hearts here today.

  42. Lord, that we might not have a wrong perception or idea,

  43. but Lord, enter into things and challenges of this life with our eyes open,

  44. knowing that we're not alone, but you're with us,

  45. that your presence is there, even in the midst of the storms of life.

  46. And Lord, we just ask us all in your precious name.

  47. Amen.

  48. You know, it began last week.

  49. We saw here in verse 35, we saw that when they went to the other side,

  50. we saw the reality of storms.

  51. You know, there's going to be storms in life.

  52. And one of the problems that you have is people think,

  53. well, if Christ is with me, why do I have issues?

  54. Why does life not go just smoothly?

  55. The reality is God doesn't say that we're going to have a smooth life after salvation.

  56. He says, I will be with you to walk there with you along the way.

  57. He says, we're going to have trials and tribulations and struggles.

  58. Those realities, but he was present there.

  59. You know, I want you to understand the presence of Jesus does not guarantee a smooth journey.

  60. His presence will be with us in the journey.

  61. He is always there.

  62. You're not going through, you know,

  63. we understand that difficulties are going to come.

  64. But Jesus is still there.

  65. Because when those situations come, they may be unpredictable.

  66. You know, we looked last week at that.

  67. The reality of the storm.

  68. Storms can be unpredictable.

  69. We don't know when or where or how things are going to come

  70. or trials are going to show up.

  71. They can be unpredictable.

  72. You know, sometimes it takes one day for life to go upside down.

  73. I mean, there's been times in my life where one day, from one day to the next,

  74. life goes whoop, life happens.

  75. You know what benefits is Christ is with you.

  76. He never leaves you.

  77. He never forsakes you.

  78. So I want you to understand, not only can it be unpredictable,

  79. but they can be unmerciful.

  80. Things happen.

  81. Storms are not a respecter of persons.

  82. They can come and they can be unmerciful.

  83. We find the problem the disciples had.

  84. When the storm came, it began to fill up the ship.

  85. The waters overwhelmed and the ship began to fill.

  86. You know, sometimes storms in our life feel like it's filling us up.

  87. It's overwhelming.

  88. The disciples had a picture, a literal picture of a storm filling their ship with waters.

  89. Look there at verse 37.

  90. It says,

  91. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship,

  92. so that it was now full.

  93. You know?

  94. The rising water, the rising situation, the distress of the situation,

  95. alarmed the disciples.

  96. Their boat that they were in was being overwhelmed by the things outside of it.

  97. But, you know, I want you to see that Christ was still there with them.

  98. And they needed to rely upon him to understand no matter what, to trust the Lord.

  99. You know?

  100. Think about for a moment.

  101. Look back up into verse 35 in your text.

  102. Think about what Jesus told them.

  103. He said,

  104. Let us pass over unto the other side.

  105. You know what?

  106. God gave them a promise of what was going to happen.

  107. He told them,

  108. You will get to the other side.

  109. What he didn't tell them,

  110. there's going to be some struggles getting there.

  111. That we have to rely upon him.

  112. We need to trust him.

  113. You know, sometimes we can be overwhelmed with situations of life.

  114. You know, we finished last week on this thought from 1 Peter.

  115. 1 Peter chapter 4 and verse 12 says this.

    1 Peter 4 chapter mention

  116. Peter, let's back up for just a moment.

  117. Let's talk about Peter just a second here.

  118. Did Peter ever have some struggles?

  119. I mean, Peter had some struggles he produced in his life.

  120. And Peter had struggles that were produced because he was faithful to the Lord.

  121. You know, Peter was beaten.

  122. He was jailed.

  123. You think of all the dynamics that took place,

  124. the challenges that he had.

  125. And he writes this under the inspiration of God.

  126. He says this in 1 Peter chapter 4.

    1 Peter 4 chapter mention

  127. He says,

  128. Beloved,

  129. think it not strange concerning the fiery trial,

  130. which is to try you as though some strange thing happened unto you.

  131. But rejoice insomuch as ye are partakers of Christ's suffering,

  132. that when his glory shall be refilled,

  133. ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

  134. You know, that's what we see, the reality of it.

  135. But notice here, when life's overwhelming,

  136. we find something else because,

  137. I want you to understand,

  138. Jesus was making a point when they disturbed him.

  139. When he woke up, he was talking about,

  140. Oh, ye of little faith.

  141. But I want you to understand, I don't think it was a rebuke.

  142. I think it was a challenge in a picture that they were going to understand

  143. because we see the request of the fearful.

  144. Because you know what?

  145. When we're scared and life overwhelms,

  146. Jesus doesn't get upset when we come to him.

  147. I think he used this as an opportunity.

  148. When we see his picture of faith,

  149. of what he says,

  150. Why are ye so fearful?

  151. How is it that you have no faith?

  152. You know?

  153. Think about that dynamic.

  154. But look in verse 38,

  155. when they wake him up,

  156. he has his request to the fearful.

  157. And he says,

  158. And he was in the hinder part of the ship,

  159. asleep on a pillow.

  160. And they awake him and say unto him,

  161. Master, carest thou not that we perish?

  162. You know, I think this is an important question that the disciples had.

  163. Because sometimes our perception is

  164. that when God allows things to happen in our life,

  165. when storms come,

  166. our first question is,

  167. Don't you love me?

  168. Lord, don't you care?

  169. That's often the place we first go, isn't it?

  170. I want you to understand,

  171. it's a natural place,

  172. but it's a place that we don't really have a right perspective.

  173. Because you know what?

  174. Jesus does care.

  175. He displayed how much he cared.

  176. What the reality is,

  177. they didn't like what they were seeing,

  178. or what was happening.

  179. And they lost sight of who was the one that was in control.

  180. That calm assurance that God is in control.

  181. You know?

  182. Think about Jesus.

  183. What was Jesus doing?

  184. Now, I want you to understand,

  185. Jesus here is walking.

  186. He's 100% man, 100% flesh.

  187. In that sense, he was no different than you or I.

  188. The ship's filling up,

  189. and the waves are going,

  190. and where's Jesus?

  191. Asleep.

  192. On a pillow.

  193. Resting.

  194. He was resting because, you know what?

  195. He knew he was going to get to the other side.

  196. He never doubted the reality he was going to get to the other side.

  197. He gives us a picture of trusting God,

  198. even in the midst of the storm.

  199. You know?

  200. Because when we understand that contrast between Christ and the disciples' response to the storm,

  201. you know,

  202. the disciples called out for his attention.

  203. They requested his attention.

  204. You know, sometimes we doubt God's care when we're going through trials.

  205. Because things are outside of our control.

  206. I want you to understand,

  207. when things are outside of our control,

  208. doesn't mean it's not within God's will for your life.

  209. Or what God permits.

  210. I mean, things that God permits in people's lives for his glory is sometimes difficult.

  211. Well, and we hear, and we know the accounts from Scripture.

  212. Think about Joseph.

  213. Did Joseph have some devastating things happen?

  214. Things outside of his control?

  215. I mean, I don't think you have much more betrayal than having your brothers sell you into slavery

  216. and then end up in prison.

  217. Uncomfortable.

  218. Difficult.

  219. Sometimes questioning.

  220. But you know what?

  221. At the end of Joseph's life,

  222. what did Joseph say in Genesis 50?

  223. What you meant for evil,

  224. God meant for good.

  225. Good.

  226. Good.

  227. God was working even in the midst of China.

  228. Think about Job.

  229. Here's Job, a man that loves God, serves God,

  230. wants to honor God in all he does,

  231. and he wakes up one day to a devastating dynamic of storm.

  232. Everything he owns is gone.

  233. Went from an extremely wealthy man to zero.

  234. Then he gets news on the same day,

  235. hey, all your kids are dead.

  236. The book of Job is about walking with God through the midst of things that God allows.

  237. Because God allows things in our life

  238. for his glory.

  239. That difficulty that sometimes we learn from.

  240. You know what?

  241. Oftentimes we don't learn from blessing,

  242. we learn from trials.

  243. We learn how to trust God.

  244. We learn to walk with him.

  245. We learn to go through those situations of life

  246. where Peter says in 1 Peter chapter 5,

    1 Peter 5 chapter mention

  247. casting all your care upon him for he what?

  248. Careth for you.

  249. You know, the disciples on the boat were questioning

  250. the very originator of love,

  251. wondering if God loved them.

  252. Notice what they said,

  253. do you care not?

  254. But his presence was there.

  255. In adversity, we often want God to remove our storm,

  256. but God is looking to improve us through it.

  257. What did he do?

  258. He taught the disciples a very important lesson about faith

  259. and trusting him and his presence in the midst of trials.

  260. To learn those things of how God is working.

  261. We wanted him to take away what was happening,

  262. and he wants to strengthen you in your faith.

  263. You know, as we go through trials,

  264. you can find joy in knowing that your heavenly Father

  265. will be with you through the whole storm,

  266. just as he was in the boat with the disciples.

  267. The whole storm.

  268. To understand what God is doing.

  269. But after requesting Christ's attention,

  270. the disciples did what all of us should do

  271. when we're going through a storm.

  272. They requested the Lord's help.

  273. Notice what they said here.

  274. As we walk through this, it says this,

  275. and it says,

  276. Master, carest thou not that we perish?

  277. What do they care?

  278. And they're calling out,

  279. do you not care where there's a situation here?

  280. We need some help.

  281. When they went to him, you know,

  282. they requested his help.

  283. It's a wonderful thing to God

  284. when his children are humble enough

  285. to ask for him for help,

  286. and the help only he can give.

  287. You know, there's a lot of situations in life

  288. that you can't solve yourself

  289. that are outside of our control.

  290. We need to go to him.

  291. We need to call out to him

  292. in those moments

  293. because he hears us when we cry.

  294. You know, look over to James chapter 1 for a moment.

    James 1 chapter mention

  295. James chapter 1,

    James 1 chapter mention

  296. you'll find here in James 1,

  297. down here in verse 5,

  298. James gives us this.

  299. He says this,

  300. If any of you lack wisdom,

  301. let him ask of God

  302. that giveth to all men liberally

  303. and abradeth not,

  304. and it shall be given him.

  305. But let him ask in faith

  306. nothing wavering,

  307. for he that wavers

  308. is like a wave of the sea

  309. driven with the wind and tossed.

  310. For let not that man think

  311. that he shall receive anything of the Lord.

  312. A double-minded man

  313. is unstable in all his ways.

  314. In other words, God says,

  315. keep your focus on the right things.

  316. Understanding God's mercies are there.

  317. You know, if it wasn't for God's mercy,

  318. you wouldn't have to worry about the trial

  319. because it already would have consumed you.

  320. God is there.

  321. His mercies are new every morning,

  322. the Bible tells you.

  323. You know, Lamentations says,

  324. great is thy faithfulness.

  325. You know, I want you to know

  326. that you serve a loving God

  327. who not only loves you,

  328. but hears you.

  329. You know, isn't that something

  330. that we want to know

  331. that somebody hears?

  332. That somebody knows our situation?

  333. When we turn to the Lord

  334. and request his help,

  335. even when our faith is not strong

  336. or when we're fearful,

  337. we understand that God will answer.

  338. You know, the disciples had experienced

  339. the reality of the storm,

  340. but they also requested help of the Lord

  341. because I want you to see here next

  342. the response the Lord had to them,

  343. the response of the Savior.

  344. Notice what he did.

  345. Look here in verse 39.

  346. He says this,

  347. and he arose and rebuked the wind

  348. and said unto the sea,

  349. peace be still.

  350. You know, and the wind ceased

  351. and there was a great calm.

  352. You know, as we think about Jesus' presence,

  353. he was teaching him a lesson

  354. about his power in the midst of the storm.

  355. The creator of this world stood up

  356. and said, peace be still,

  357. and the wind and the waves obeyed.

  358. We see that his presence there

  359. and his power was what was needed in the moment.

  360. He arose on that little ship

  361. and the first thing he did was rebuke the wind.

  362. The word rebuke means to charge sharply.

  363. He spoke with authority to the wind.

  364. You know, when we see what's taking place,

  365. he has authority over this world.

  366. You know, I want you to understand

  367. that as we look through the scripture,

  368. we find in Revelation reveals

  369. that there are times,

  370. especially, you know, later on

  371. during the great time of the great tribulation

  372. when demonic powers will cause great winds to come

  373. and bring famine and desperate times

  374. here on the earth.

  375. Often the wind and the devastation

  376. is attributed to the power of Satan.

  377. But I want you to understand

  378. that we walk in the power

  379. of something more powerful.

  380. Look over to Ephesians chapter two.

  381. Ephesians chapter two and verse two says,

  382. wherein in time past

  383. you walked according to the course of this world,

  384. according to the prince of the power of the air,

  385. the spirit that now worketh

  386. in the children of disobedience.

  387. You know, I want you to understand,

  388. we are in a spiritual battle

  389. and there's a spiritual storm

  390. that's raging all around us.

  391. And when we lose sight of that spiritual battle,

  392. it affects us physically.

  393. We need to understand the picture

  394. and he's preparing his disciples.

  395. You know, we see an accurate picture

  396. of Christ's power over Satan.

  397. You know, Satan did everything he could

  398. to stop Jesus from reaching Calvary.

  399. But he was never going to have victory over Christ.

  400. You know what?

  401. I hear Jesus is crossing the Sea of Galilee

  402. and the winds and the waves are coming.

  403. It's like the ship's going to sink.

  404. And Jesus says, no, it's not.

  405. Because it's not in my time, in my place.

  406. You know, as I've been studying the Bible,

  407. there's a phrase that's been rolling around in my head

  408. and it's about the hour.

  409. Jesus said many times, my hour has not yet come.

  410. John 17 and on, he makes a statement.

  411. As he's getting ready to go to the cross,

  412. he says, my hour has come.

  413. You know what?

  414. Nothing happens.

  415. You are safe and secure

  416. because our hour is when we come and meet our Savior,

  417. the one who saved us.

  418. You know, as you face storms,

  419. understand that there's a real devil

  420. trying to stop you from glorifying God in your life.

  421. And he can only be rebuked by the words of God.

  422. You know?

  423. Think about the dynamic.

  424. Jesus said this.

  425. He's getting ready to depart earth.

  426. He tells his disciples,

  427. all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

  428. When Christ is with you,

  429. the most powerful dynamic of any kind,

  430. of any place, at any time is with you.

  431. If he's powerful enough to speak this world into existence,

  432. he's powerful enough to deal with anything in it.

  433. As we walk through those things,

  434. and we see here that kind of,

  435. you know, oftentimes there'll be winds in life

  436. that are disrupting those things.

  437. Those power that Jesus has is over all those things.

  438. Those authorities in power,

  439. including fallen angels,

  440. but Jesus has power over them all.

  441. The power of the word of God

  442. to defeat the spiritual battle

  443. and the conflict that's happening.

  444. You know, you think about when Paul talks about

  445. our armor that we put on.

  446. What's our only offensive part of that?

  447. The sword, the word of God.

  448. The most powerful thing we possess.

  449. And we notice here that Jesus,

  450. he spoke to the sea.

  451. You know, Jesus spoke to the sea,

  452. and he says, peace be still.

  453. That word peace there literally means silence or to hush.

  454. You know, I can imagine the disciples there

  455. as I think about that

  456. because I think about the contrast

  457. between different places.

  458. You know, have you ever been around a large body of water

  459. and the winds and the waves really start going,

  460. the waves roll in?

  461. You know, a wave has a lot of power.

  462. I mean, I've been in a few oceans,

  463. different oceans,

  464. and, you know, they have some pretty powerful waves.

  465. The waves will push you around,

  466. they'll pull you under,

  467. they'll move you around.

  468. If you're not careful,

  469. there's that rip current

  470. that'll take you out places you don't want to be.

  471. And here's Jesus,

  472. and I contrast that

  473. when I think about places I've been

  474. where you see even the ocean

  475. as smooth as glass.

  476. And, you know, oftentimes you think about,

  477. that's the picture that he sees here.

  478. It says, peace be still,

  479. and it ceased.

  480. It went from rolling waves

  481. to tranquil that quick

  482. to where it went,

  483. wow.

  484. That's what shocked the disciples.

  485. These,

  486. even the fishermen

  487. that have been out on there many times

  488. said,

  489. we have never seen

  490. something like this.

  491. He had complete authority

  492. in the situation.

  493. Literally,

  494. Jesus has caused the waves to stop.

  495. He muzzled them.

  496. He put them into quietness

  497. so that they could not disturb

  498. what now existed.

  499. It truly is so comforting

  500. to know that our Lord

  501. has the power

  502. over the storms

  503. that we face.

  504. And we're going through the storms.

  505. We don't need to cower in fear,

  506. but trust in an all-powerful Savior.

  507. To trust in Him.

  508. I mean, think about what Psalm 56

  509. tells us in verse 3.

  510. It says,

  511. what time I am afraid,

  512. I will trust in Thee.

  513. You know,

  514. that verse doesn't apply

  515. when everything's going well.

  516. Or should I say,

  517. it's not practical

  518. when everything's going well.

  519. It says,

  520. what time I am afraid.

  521. You know,

  522. when things are going well,

  523. we're generally not fearful.

  524. But when fear comes

  525. and fear overwhelms,

  526. we have to say,

  527. Lord,

  528. I will trust You.

  529. He is the one

  530. that is master

  531. over the storm

  532. in your life.

  533. No matter what's happening,

  534. but He challenges them.

  535. Next,

  536. He challenges the disciples.

  537. He spoke there,

  538. look at verse 40,

  539. and He said unto them,

  540. why are ye so fearful?

  541. How is it that ye have

  542. no faith?

  543. You know,

  544. the disciples

  545. were in a place

  546. that might be

  547. the same place

  548. you are today.

  549. Life's going to throw

  550. some things at you

  551. that turns life upside down.

  552. that we have no idea,

  553. we might not see it coming,

  554. might not make sense.

  555. And in those moments,

  556. we have a decision to make.

  557. Where's your trust?

  558. Do you trust the Lord?

  559. You know,

  560. if you haven't been there,

  561. you will one day be there.

  562. Matter of fact,

  563. I suspect you've been there

  564. many times.

  565. And if you live very long,

  566. guess what?

  567. You're going to be there again.

  568. Because storms in life come.

  569. When fear overpowers,

  570. takes your eyes off

  571. the things of God.

  572. But Jesus reminds His disciples

  573. they didn't have to be

  574. bound by fear.

  575. God hasn't given us

  576. the spirit of fear,

  577. but of power and love

  578. and of a sound mind.

  579. That means to be able

  580. to think properly

  581. in the midst of a situation.

  582. To have the right perspective.

  583. You know,

  584. Jesus knew His disciples

  585. were afraid,

  586. and He knows

  587. when we're afraid.

  588. He understands

  589. the burdens that you have.

  590. The things that weigh

  591. on your heart.

  592. He knows

  593. what we're worried

  594. about tomorrow.

  595. You know?

  596. I want you to understand

  597. that if you have Christ

  598. as your Savior,

  599. He's in the boat

  600. in the midst of your storm

  601. with you.

  602. He is the one

  603. that is there.

  604. You have no reason

  605. to fear the storm.

  606. You can have comfort

  607. in the promises

  608. that He gives.

  609. He gives in Scripture.

  610. He gives Scripture

  611. to us for our benefit,

  612. for our learning,

  613. for our understanding.

  614. You know,

  615. look over to Psalm 46

  616. for a moment.

  617. Psalm 46,

  618. you'll see over here

  619. in Psalm 46.

  620. Look at verse 1 there

  621. in Psalm 46.

  622. He says,

  623. God is our refuge

  624. and what?

  625. He's our what?

  626. Strength.

  627. A very present help

  628. in what?

  629. Trouble.

  630. Now,

  631. I won't ask for a show of hands,

  632. but how many think

  633. life's full of trouble?

  634. You know?

  635. If you've lived very long,

  636. you learn that pretty quick,

  637. don't you?

  638. There's all sorts

  639. of troubles

  640. that are going to come.

  641. Notice what it says,

  642. therefore will not

  643. we fear

  644. though the earth

  645. be removed

  646. and though the mountains

  647. be carried

  648. in the midst

  649. of the sea,

  650. though the waters

  651. thereof roar

  652. and be troubled,

  653. though the mountains

  654. shake with the swelling

  655. thereof.

  656. I mean,

  657. you think about that

  658. for a moment.

  659. To trust God.

  660. God is our refuge.

  661. He's always there for us

  662. no matter how ferocious

  663. the storm may be.

  664. We serve a powerful God

  665. that is stronger

  666. than the powers

  667. of this world.

  668. Have you ever considered

  669. Noah's family?

  670. You know,

  671. oftentimes we think

  672. kind of different about it.

  673. We think about,

  674. you know,

  675. here's Noah.

  676. He gets everybody

  677. into the ark.

  678. Then the storm comes.

  679. You ever thought

  680. how fearful

  681. it might have been

  682. for them

  683. the first time

  684. the boat started floating?

  685. Something they never experienced?

  686. Think about faith.

  687. How God told them

  688. to construct it

  689. and how to construct it,

  690. how to seal it.

  691. They didn't get a test drive.

  692. They didn't get to shake it down

  693. to see if it functioned.

  694. They had to get in the boat.

  695. They had to trust God

  696. when the storm

  697. was going to rage about them.

  698. You know,

  699. we serve a powerful God

  700. who's stronger

  701. than anything else

  702. we can be confronted with.

  703. The disciples' fear

  704. pushed away their faith.

  705. Faith and fear

  706. always cancel each other out.

  707. The two don't walk together

  708. because you're either

  709. walking in fear

  710. or you're walking in faith.

  711. One is going to be

  712. the controller.

  713. They don't share the reins.

  714. Fear

  715. or faith.

  716. When we try to,

  717. when we allow fear

  718. into faith,

  719. you diminish

  720. faith's power.

  721. Jesus challenged

  722. the disciples

  723. because they had

  724. lost their faith.

  725. They had allowed fear

  726. to begin to overcome

  727. their faith.

  728. Now you think about

  729. what Jesus had taught

  730. them earlier

  731. in Matthew 6

  732. it records for us.

  733. It says this,

  734. therefore I say unto you

  735. take no thought

  736. for your life

  737. what you shall eat

  738. or what you shall drink

  739. nor yet for your body

  740. that you may

  741. what you shall put on

  742. is not life

  743. more than meat

  744. and the body

  745. than raiment.

  746. Behold the fowls

  747. of the air

  748. for they sow not

  749. neither do they reap

  750. nor gather into barns

  751. yet the heavenly father

  752. what?

  753. Feedeth them

  754. are you not much better

  755. than they?

  756. When we look at creation

  757. it reminds us

  758. God says I take care

  759. of my creatures

  760. and you're more

  761. important than them.

  762. That's a priority statement.

  763. If God says

  764. if I take care

  765. of the fowls

  766. of the air

  767. you're more important

  768. to take care of.

  769. He says you're

  770. a higher priority.

  771. Are you not much better?

  772. He says this

  773. a little later on

  774. he says but seek ye

  775. first the what?

  776. the kingdom of God

  777. and his righteousness

  778. and all these things

  779. shall be added unto you.

  780. You know what God says

  781. is there's greater things

  782. if you trust me.

  783. You know the disciples

  784. had looked at their own resources

  785. and understood

  786. it wasn't enough.

  787. They couldn't bail fast enough

  788. to keep the water

  789. out of the boat.

  790. I have a feeling

  791. the disciples

  792. had spent some time

  793. bailing water.

  794. Why?

  795. Because it probably

  796. wasn't the first time

  797. they bailed some water.

  798. The problem

  799. wasn't the bailing.

  800. The problem

  801. is when water

  802. was coming in

  803. faster than getting out.

  804. I want you to understand

  805. this morning

  806. that when we

  807. in the midst

  808. of the storm

  809. is when God

  810. is still there

  811. with you.

  812. Because after the disciples

  813. saw Jesus

  814. calm the storm

  815. simply by his words

  816. the Bible says

  817. that they marveled.

  818. You know look there

  819. at verse 41.

  820. It says

  821. and they feared

  822. exceedingly

  823. and said one to another

  824. what manner

  825. of man

  826. is this

  827. that even

  828. the wind

  829. and the sea

  830. obey him.

  831. They'd seen

  832. Jesus do miracles.

  833. The blind

  834. to see

  835. the lame

  836. to walk

  837. the deaf

  838. to hear

  839. cast out

  840. evil spirits

  841. from people.

  842. They'd seen

  843. Jesus do

  844. all these things

  845. then they realized

  846. he's even greater

  847. than what they thought.

  848. You know what

  849. when you trust God

  850. you're going to find

  851. that he's greater

  852. than what you think.

  853. He's more able

  854. than what you perceive.

  855. He is able

  856. to overcome

  857. whatever it is

  858. that is in your life.

  859. Think about what they said

  860. what manner

  861. of man

  862. is this.

  863. Here is the one

  864. Christ

  865. who was

  866. the God

  867. man.

  868. He was God

  869. himself

  870. in human form

  871. completely

  872. equal with

  873. God the Father

  874. and God

  875. the Holy Spirit.

  876. He was conceived

  877. of the Holy Ghost

  878. born of the Virgin Mary

  879. lived a perfect

  880. sinless life

  881. being tempted

  882. in all points

  883. as we are.

  884. He is the Alpha

  885. and Omega

  886. the bright

  887. and morning star

  888. the mighty God

  889. the Prince of Peace

  890. and he was there

  891. in the boat

  892. with him.

  893. you know what

  894. he's in your boat

  895. today.

  896. Whatever storm

  897. you're going through

  898. in life

  899. he is there

  900. with you.

  901. The creator

  902. of the world

  903. is there

  904. every step

  905. of the way

  906. but that's only true

  907. if you've accepted

  908. him as your Savior.

  909. You know

  910. there's a lot

  911. of people today

  912. who say they trust

  913. God but have never

  914. recognized him

  915. as a Savior.

  916. They talk about God

  917. they talk around God

  918. but you know

  919. he's only with you

  920. if you've called

  921. upon him.

  922. He says I'll come

  923. and I'll dwell

  924. with you.

  925. I'll never leave you

  926. I'll never forsake you

  927. I'll never abandon you

  928. I will never turn

  929. my back on you.

  930. God says

  931. I will be

  932. there

  933. with you.

  934. When we consider

  935. his presence

  936. and know his power

  937. is enough

  938. to get us through

  939. whatever we face.

  940. we understand

  941. the picture

  942. that the disciples

  943. saw vividly

  944. in their life

  945. is fear

  946. overtaking

  947. instead of faith.

  948. To trust

  949. the Savior

  950. is critical

  951. because you can

  952. trust him

  953. no matter how

  954. big your storm

  955. may feel

  956. or be

  957. I want you

  958. to know

  959. that God

  960. loves you

  961. and God

  962. is more powerful

  963. than the storm

  964. or the situation

  965. of life

  966. that you're walking

  967. through.

  968. When you consider

  969. Christ

  970. I want you to

  971. consider

  972. his presence

  973. and his promise

  974. to always

  975. be there

  976. with you.

  977. Let's pray.

  978. may may may
