  12. Welcome to Logos Rima Hour with God's servant, Rev.

  13. Dr.

  14. Joseph Baalbin, Head Pastor of Harvest Chapel International Kumasi. And now,

  15. to today's message.

  16. Amen. Hallelujah. Amen. So y'all, warmly welcome. I wanted to

  17. wrap up. Order in giving. Hallelujah. I believe that God

  18. wanted us to just run through and pick some of

  19. the lessons that he wanted us to learn from Deuteronomy

    Deuteronomy 8 chapter mention

  20. chapter 8 concerning the pursuit of either the spirit of

  21. Mammon or God. Hallelujah. Because it's so important, you know,

  22. The whole Christian life is all about giving in exchange

  23. for what God did on Calvary's cross. God gave his

  24. all for us when he sacrificed his only begotten son,

  25. Jesus Christ. And through an open invitation to whosoever believes

  26. that that person would not perish, but go on and

  27. attain eternal life. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Amen. And it's a life

  28. of exchange He gave so that we could give back

  29. to Him our time, our talents, and our treasures. Hallelujah. Amen.

  30. And if you go through the Old Testament as God delivered,

  31. if you like, the hallmarks of the covenant that He

  32. cut with Israel of old, you would realize that most

  33. of the Ten Commandments, particularly when it comes to the

  34. commandment concerning idolatry, you know, which is worshipping of other

  35. creative elements instead of the Creator. God frowns quite seriously

  36. on it. Indeed, in the Old Testament, it was capital

  37. punishment to go chasing after the idols of this world. Hallelujah.

  38. God is our Creator and He wants to be worshipped,

  39. not the Creator or the elements of creation. Hallelujah. And

  40. so let's see how best we can pick some of

  41. the other lessons and then some of the things that

  42. would complete with our worship and our service for God

  43. and then we'll wrap up the month. Hallelujah. Amen. And

  44. as we read through, I think one of the things

  45. that is going to strike you and I'm sure if

  46. you like I'll also be committing the same mistake just

  47. as God if we want to style it as a

  48. mistake because you realize that there is repetitiveness as we

  49. read through Deuteronomy chapter 8 and 10. And anytime you

    Deuteronomy 8 chapter mention

  50. see that there is a certain particular truth or commandment

  51. in the Lord and there is repetitiveness around it, then

  52. most often it has to do with The hard lessons

  53. in the Bible that needs, if possible, so to speak,

  54. to be drummed into our heads. And so God, the

  55. Holy Spirit, knowing how easily forgetful we are, will repeat

  56. and repeat, repeat the lessons. He's trying to drum it

  57. into our heads that, son, forget, don't forget this, don't

  58. forget this, don't forget this. So it will strike you

  59. as we go through it. It's just, I mean, the commandments,

  60. the commandments, the commandments. It's so dear to God's heart

  61. that we never forget the commandments, but rather do everything

  62. in our power to obey the commandments because our obedience

  63. literally releases the blessings of God into our lives. Hallelujah.

  64. So when you find some of these repetitive cycles of

  65. the same commandments or truth, then God wants us to

  66. pause long enough, meditate and practice those truths Till we

  67. master them. It's like they can't be ignored. Truths and lessons. Amen. Hallelujah.

  68. So let's go back to Deuteronomy chapter 8. We have

    Deuteronomy 8 chapter mention

  69. already looked at verse 1. We have picked the lessons there.

  70. And I've warned you already. I'm going to be competitive.

  71. That it's all about the whole commandment. Be careful to obey.

  72. All the commandments, no sum. And then lesson number two,

  73. be careful to do it. Live in obedience. God wants

  74. us to walk in obedience. Number three, that you may

  75. live and multiply. Number four, we said go in and

  76. possess the land. Occupy by force. Apply effort to the truth.

  77. Whatever God bids us, there's a natural resistance within because

  78. of our fallen nature. It is Satan's DNA that he

  79. has bitten all humankind. Hallelujah. Because we are all his offspring.

  80. And so there's a natural resistance within all of us

  81. for the word and the instructions of God. We want

  82. our liberties from God. We want to also reason Convince

  83. ourselves and do it. Hallelujah. Amen. And that alone is

  84. an affront and a challenge to the authority of God.

  85. Because He created us. And He knows it all. That's

  86. why He is the omniscient God. He knows it all.

  87. He understands it all. Because He invented us. Hallelujah. So

  88. anytime that we are resisting Him Did I use the word?

  89. He's madly shocked. Hallelujah. Because we are not going to

  90. get anywhere. We just end up going round and round

  91. and round. Hallelujah. Amen. So, lesson number four in verse

  92. one of chapter eight of Deuteronomy was to go in

  93. and possess the land. The specific instruction that God wants

  94. us to do. And any time that God bids us

  95. and goals us to do something, it means that he

  96. has given us the grace and whatever we need to

  97. be able to do that thing. Hallelujah. He reassured Israel

  98. of old, Moses, and then particularly here, Joshua, that you

  99. can't take the land. It is yours for the taking.

  100. And he said, I will be with you. I will

  101. go ahead of you. And like he said, I will

  102. send the hundred ahead of you. And there's no way

  103. that the inhabitants of the land of Canaan will be

  104. able to resist you. You will by all means be

  105. able to take it. And all the wealth that I

  106. have there for you. And then the final one, there

  107. was the fact that we saw that God swore, hallelujah,

  108. took an oath that by all means, I'm going to

  109. bless you. Hallelujah. Amen. So now, let's pick verse 2.

  110. Let's pick the lessons. And then he says, and in

  111. verse 2, and you shall remember the whole way that

  112. the Lord your God has led you these 40 years

  113. in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you

  114. to know what was in your heart, whether you would

  115. keep his commandments or not. Hallelujah. What are the lessons?

  116. That God wants us to learn from verse 2. Amen.

  117. Number 2. The first point there is that like sheep.

  118. And remember the Bible in several portions. Tries to paint

  119. the picture of you and I. Being sheep. The sheep

  120. of God. And God being our shepherd. Amen. And so

  121. in verse 2. God says I'm taking you to a place.

  122. That is a land that is flowing with milk and honey.

  123. And these were. if you like, liberated slaves that were coming.

  124. None of them had been to the land of Palestine before.

  125. And that is how come that Moses, you know, pleaded

  126. with his brother-in-law. Hobab, to come alongside with them. Hobab

  127. the Kenite. That was his brother-in-law. And he said, you know,

  128. you know the wilderness. You know that. You shall be

  129. our eyes. And I like what he said. He said,

  130. God has promised us a blessing. And when we come

  131. into that blessing, you will also get your portion. Hallelujah. Amen.

  132. Because it says that you know the terrain much more,

  133. better than we do. Hallelujah. Amen. And so where God

  134. is taking us, you and I, we have no idea.

  135. I wonder if anyone of us knows what lies ahead

  136. in the next one hour. Yeah, I don't know. Hallelujah. Amen.

  137. But God knows. That's why he's God. A God that

  138. doesn't know the future is no God. And he will

  139. not be worth worshiping. Hallelujah. Amen. So it's very, very

  140. important that we understand this, that he says that you

  141. shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God

  142. has led you. Like sheep, God wants us to follow

  143. his leading and his guiding. Hallelujah. Amen. And then point

  144. number two, God doesn't want us to forget or resent

  145. our wilderness experiences. Because it's very clear that I led

  146. you through these 40 years in the wilderness as if

  147. to say that the suffering that you went through was intentional. Wow. Hallelujah.

  148. Can you tell somebody, you never know who is suffering here. Hallelujah.

  149. And just whisper to that person that whatever you are

  150. going through God knows. Anytime you say that Christian suffering

  151. is intentional, then the church, oh, ah, no. That is

  152. not what we know about when you love somebody. But

  153. that's divine love. It's tough love. Tell somebody it's tough love. Amen. So,

  154. some people drift away from church because they decide to

  155. follow the spirit of mammon because they resent the wilderness

  156. experience that God has for us. Christian suffering and hardship

  157. has designed it. Amen. God is not just, if you like,

  158. bringing the hardship for hardship's sake. No. It's in the text. Hallelujah. Amen.

  159. He says what? That he might humble you, testing you

  160. to know what was in your heart. whether he would

  161. keep his commandments or not. So Christian suffering that is

  162. designed by God is not just for suffering's sake, but

  163. there are ends that he wants to achieve. Hallelujah. Humility.

  164. And what does humility do? It purges us of pride

  165. and self-dependence. Humility will purge us of pride and self-dependence. Very, very,

  166. very important lesson. Hallelujah. Amen. So God said, the goal

  167. is to humble us. Or better still, so that we

  168. will humble ourselves before God. Number two, he says that

  169. God is testing our hearts. What does it mean? God

  170. demands loyalty. You see, at the backdrop of all these

  171. lessons that God takes us through, is the fact that

  172. he knows where he is taking us. Amen. Remember, there's

  173. one life to live, as we like to say, but

  174. two chapters. Amen. A very short chapter, number one, lived

  175. here on earth. And a longer, eternal chapter, number two.

  176. So all that we are going through, all the hardship,

  177. the purging, so we will pick the lessons of humility

  178. and be purged of pride. All those things are preparing

  179. us for chapter number two of our lives. Say a

  180. big amen. In chapter number two, it will be too

  181. late to learn these lessons there. Amen. After Satan's coup

  182. d'etat in heaven, what did he do? It was all

  183. because of pride. The Bible says his heart was lifted up.

  184. So God is not going to teach us lessons of

  185. pride in heaven. You will be cast down. There will

  186. be no time. So all the hard lessons that we

  187. need to learn, all the purging that we need to

  188. go through, they are taking place here Say a big amen.

  189. Because when Jesus comes, he's coming to pick up a

  190. complete bride. Prepared. Amen. Passed through the furnace of suffering. Refined.

  191. They are the people that are going to make it

  192. to heaven. That's why the Bible says in heaven there

  193. will be no sin. So if we don't pick our

  194. lessons right here, then it means that you are not

  195. prepared to go to the heaven that we are going to. Amen. Amen.

  196. And there are lessons. Amen. Because there will be no time.

  197. You won't even make it to heaven. That's the whole thing.

  198. You won't make it. And the Bible makes it as copious,

  199. you know, instructions and verses. The kind of people who

  200. are not going to make it there. Prideful people, you

  201. won't make it. So for you and I, that is

  202. why the Bible says that God chastises and disciplines us

  203. as his children. Because the purging and the refining has

  204. to be done here on earth. That is why Christians suffer. Amen.

  205. Because suffering has a way of humbling us. He says

  206. God tests our hearts. Demands loyalty and he demands obedience. Hallelujah. Amen.

  207. And God never wants us to forget these truths. Amen.

  208. Now let's look at verse 3. So now we have

  209. We have learned that he's taken us through. God took

  210. Israel of old through the wilderness experience so that he

  211. will humble them, test their hearts. Hallelujah. Amen. And then

  212. verse 3 says, and he humbled you. Look at what

  213. he did. And let you hunger and fed you with

  214. manna which you did not know. Nor did your fathers

  215. know that he might make you know that man does

  216. not live by bread alone, but man lives by every

  217. word that comes from the mouth of God. Hallelujah. I

  218. believe that some of the greatest lessons that God seeks

  219. to teach us about this life is that he didn't

  220. create us to come pursuing and acquiring wealth. Say a

  221. big amen. Amen. Hallelujah. Life is more than wealth or

  222. mammon and the pursuit and acquisition of it. and all

  223. the other goodies and all the other benefits that the

  224. spirit of Mammon brings. Because where we are going, unless

  225. you see sometimes when we read it, it sounds something, oh,

  226. the city is a city of gold, the streets are

  227. paved with gold and all that, and sometimes we think that, oh,

  228. this must be fantasy. It's not fantasy. Say a big amen.

  229. The Bible is not delicious, it's truth. Hallelujah. So if

  230. we are going to a place where all these things

  231. are there. Why are you when God has reassured us

  232. that there are hours in waiting? So why do you

  233. want to pursue this to the exclusion of God and

  234. then ignore what God wants to do to prepare us

  235. for chapter number two of our lives? I hope you

  236. are getting it. Amen. So all said and done, if

  237. you acquire the wealth, we all say, but sometimes we

  238. forget the hard truth that God wants it to be

  239. etched on our minds. All the money, where do you

  240. have it? Why do you leave it here? Why? Because

  241. where God wants to take us, there is enough there.

  242. Or more than enough there. Hallelujah. Then our argument is that,

  243. oh no, God, we want some also for this life.

  244. There's no problem. Let's go on. Let's see. When you

  245. get the money, what are you going to use it for?

  246. You want to be a billionaire? What do you want

  247. to do? You tell me, right, right, right. And I say,

  248. if I am a billionaire, what I will use the

  249. money for? Hallelujah. You will write three lines, four lines.

  250. We'll go through this and you'll see. Hallelujah. Amen. Now

  251. listen to it. Hallelujah. Amen. So it's very, very important

  252. that we remember that he humbled you. He let you hunger,

  253. fed you with manna, Underline that which you did not know,

  254. nor did your fathers know, that he might make you

  255. know that man does not live by bread alone, but

  256. man lives by every word that comes from the mouth

  257. of God. Hallelujah. Let us remember the foundational stones that

  258. Moses had laid. God created us to be his stewards

  259. and born servants. Hallelujah. We live in this world and

  260. follow every word and instruction. That proceeds from the mouth

  261. of God. Simply because it is his world. He is

  262. the owner. Hallelujah. Amen. And he knows what he is doing.

  263. And where he is taking us all. Yes it is

  264. a falling well. But God has promised that he will

  265. fix it. Amen. He will fix it. Hallelujah. And one

  266. of the ways that he said he's going to fix

  267. it is that I'm going to create things anew. Amen. Hallelujah.

  268. And isn't it amazing? He reassures us. He says that

  269. eyes have not seen, nor ears heard, nor the mind conceived.

  270. or fathom the good things that God has planned for us,

  271. who believe, who trust, who follow his leading and his guidance.

  272. Guys have not seen it. Hallelujah. The descriptions or the

  273. glimpses of heaven that the apostle John gives us in

  274. the book of Revelation and all the other prophets of

  275. God have documented. The Bible, it says that, Paul says

  276. that when he was caught up into the third heaven,

  277. he said, The things that he saw, he said, he

  278. can't document it. He can't put words to it. That's

  279. why he says, I can't. Because he can't be able

  280. to put words to it. Hallelujah. Amen. And look at

  281. verse 4. It says, your clothing did not wear out

  282. on you and your foot did not swell these 40 years.

  283. Let's take the lessons. So God through Moses now draws

  284. our attention to the supernatural provisions that he made for

  285. Israel during the wilderness journey. And I'm saying that the wealth,

  286. what have we been using the wealth for? Food, clothing, shelter, cars.

  287. When we are tired, when we can't walk, the cars

  288. will take us to wherever we want to go. Amen.

  289. Now look at what What about food? Food supplies. God

  290. supplied manna for 40 good years. Amen. The food, 40 years.

  291. So through the supernatural provision of God, God was trying

  292. to tell us a lesson. In the wilderness, Israel didn't farm.

  293. They never planted anything. They never reaped anything. They ate

  294. manna for 40 good years. More or less, God fed

  295. them for 40 good years. Food. When we become a billionaire,

  296. one of the things on your agenda will be good food. Hallelujah.

  297. Have you seen the description of manna? They say it

  298. was like nothing. And the Bible says that it was

  299. the food of angels. It means that when you and

  300. I will go to heaven, we'll go and see manna there.

  301. And the people of Israel tasted manna long before they

  302. would get there. Hallelujah. What about water? There was a

  303. supernatural supply of water. The Bible says that the water

  304. that Moses struck when the rock, that water followed them.

  305. You see, so Israel was led across the tracks that

  306. the water was going through. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. So for 40 years,

  307. God gave them water to drink. Hallelujah. Amen. So there

  308. was supernatural supply through the rock that followed them. What

  309. about clothing? Look at what did God say. He said,

  310. your clothing did not wear out on you. Amen. Talk

  311. about fashion. Trending fashion. 40 years. How many of us,

  312. every year we want to change our wardrobes. 40 years,

  313. Israel didn't find any cause or reason to change their wardrobe. Hallelujah. Amen.

  314. When you become a billionaire, I hope you are writing

  315. how you spend your 1 billion. Food, water, clothing. Footwear. Hallelujah. Footwear.

  316. 40 good years, no change. And what I like about

  317. the footwear is that it also In a way. And

  318. I like what Moses said. How Moses put it. Oh God.

  319. He said your feet did not swell these 40 years.

  320. More like I walked you, I led you in hell. Hell.

  321. Well done is you know well. They could have been

  322. what pricked by all kinds of things and got swellings

  323. and got infections and all that. God is saying that

  324. he gave them supernatural health. The people who died. All

  325. the people who died were those who opposed him. So

  326. minus Caleb and Joshua, all the others were killed by God.

  327. He said, I'll kill you anyway. And he killed them. Hallelujah. Amen.

  328. But for 40 years, they were held in health and vitality.

  329. Are you thinking about your billion? What are you going

  330. to use it for? Amen. Hallelujah. So it's amazing that

  331. God's argument here is that even when I give you

  332. the wealth, these are the basic necessities of life. All

  333. the rest, you think about it. When you get money,

  334. what are food, clothing, shelter, health? Hallelujah. Amen. And I

  335. like what The apostle Paul would say, my God shall

  336. supply all my needs according to his riches in glory

  337. through Christ Jesus. Turn to someone and say, God is

  338. still in the business of supernatural provisions. Amen. And you

  339. just have to believe. You have to believe. This is

  340. what he's saying. 40 good years. He demonstrates it. So

  341. more or less, Don't go and fix your eyes and

  342. begin chasing the spirit of Mammon. What are you going

  343. to do with it? These are the things that we

  344. ultimately use it for. And more like come to the

  345. wilderness where there was nothing. Supernatural. God's supply. All these

  346. basic things. That's verse 4. And you remember he says,

  347. I change not. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. those who have dared to believe,

  348. and you allow God to guide you and to lead

  349. you day by day, you'll be amazed. You'll be amazed

  350. at the supplies that God has installed for you. Verse

  351. 5 says that, know then in your heart that as

  352. a man, so still the lessons, the tough lessons he

  353. wants us to know, as a man disciplines his son,

  354. the Lord your God disciplines you. So we are learning

  355. here that God disciplines us as his children. What is

  356. the end goal of discipline? Character training. Amen. Discipline is

  357. for character training. And where we are going, discipline matters.

  358. Say a big amen.
