You're listening to a message to go from Acts Church.
-
We hope this message will light up your day.
-
Community evaluated. Community evaluated. And when I.
-
Saw that, I said to myself that this is really
-
apt for Acts Church Conference, especially because Acts Church Conference
-
speaks about missions.
-
Or the heart of God.
-
For the lost, the heart of God, for people who
-
don't go to church, don't know about Christ, don't know
-
about the love of God. Community Evaluated speaks into that.
-
And so I thought I'm going to save a lot
-
of speakers the need to prepare on the message of
-
Community Evaluated. And I can see Elder Peng Ho blowing
-
me kisses, saying thank you, thank you, thank you. Now,
-
I'm not sure because Elder Peng Ho is also a
-
very good preacher. So he may already have prepared for
-
Community Evaluated. Those of you who don't think I do
-
a good job today, just carry on.
-
Next week, okay?
-
Because it's not always that I get it right. But
-
here we go. Community Evaluated. Thank you XTV again for
-
helping me with the slides. We're going to speak on
-
this final day of X Church Conference. X Church Conference
-
used to be called our missions conference and missions just
-
means remember those outside of your comfort zone, outside of
-
your skin colour, outside of your tradition, outside of your
-
language and outside of.
-
Your influence, okay.
-
So let's begin to look at the Scripture from Acts
Acts 2 chapter mention
-
chapter 2.
-
By now, those of you who are following the 12
-
plus 1 values, We'll.
-
Know that we extracted these 12 plus 1, 13 values
-
from mainly.
-
Acts chapter 2.
Acts 2 chapter mention
-
So all our values, the values of Acts Church comes
-
straight from the Bible.
-
Somebody say Amen. We want that.
-
We want to be a word faithful church. A church
-
that's faithful to the Word. We don't just want man's opinions.
-
We don't just want what's the latest trend.
-
On the earth.
-
We want God's Word where the Bible itself says that
-
heaven and earth will pass away. But my Word will
-
by no means pass away. God's Word will never grow old.
-
Somebody say Amen. It will always be fresh and it
-
will always be relevant. I answered quite a few questions
-
at my workshop yesterday. I had two workshops. And people
-
were asking about forgiveness. People were asking about sin. People
-
were asking about, you know, how to keep themselves pure.
-
There was even a question about adultery. And this question
-
was very honest where this person said, I have committed
-
adultery and I'm being tempted again to do it again. Pastor,
-
please help. Get me out of this. And you know,
-
there is a scripture in Psalm 119 verse 11 that.
-
Says, Your word... I've hidden in my heart that I
-
might not sin against you.
-
It is the Word of God that is very, very
-
powerful and I'm so glad to be able to lead
-
you into Acts chapter 2, verse 46 to 47, where
-
we extract what community evaluated means.
-
So let's read the Word of God.
-
So continuing daily with one accord in the temple and
-
breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food
-
with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God. and having
-
favour with all the people. And the Lord added to
-
the church daily those who were being saved. My next
-
slide says this. What we want to be as a
-
church is this. To have favour with all people. You know,
-
just very quickly, Side note, even meeting in this place,
-
you know, some people ask us why don't we have
-
our own building and all that.
-
You know, other people have their own buildings, beautiful, great,
-
you know, can do so many more things.
-
But because of us having to go from one building
-
to another building, we get to know a lot of
-
people outside our church. Yesterday, we were working with Calvary Church.
-
And the pastor is so nice there. He keeps coming
-
to visit us during our conference just to say hi.
-
Pastor Stephen Kam is a good friend.
-
And to say that I have a good friend in
-
Calvary Church, that is Assemblies of God, is quite unheard
-
of in.
-
This day and age.
-
That an independent church like us would have a good
-
friend in Assemblies of God.
-
And why? Because we need to rent their space.
-
And so in coming out of our comfort zone, we
-
have to shake other people's hands. And then we get
-
to know people here in Kwan Ching. Is that the
-
proper pronunciation? And these people, quite a few of them
-
are not in the same faith. But they're smiling and
-
we're shaking hands. And they're getting to know who we are.
-
When we were doing the Victory Academy production, we were
-
at where?
-
Chee Woon, USJ1.
-
And the lady that took care of Victory Academy's production,
-
I'm not sure if she's a believer. But she said
-
to us, you guys are so different. That's what she
-
told Pastor Sarah. And Pastor Sarah told me, She says,
-
I meet with a lot of people because Chee Wen
-
Hall now is very popular with all kinds of people
-
and also churches. And she said with her own mouth,
-
I have not seen anyone like you. Because, you know,
-
we are the salt of the earth and the light
-
of the world. So can you imagine if we only
-
had our own building and we never met anyone outside
-
of that building? Just think about that for a while.
-
We want to have favour with all people. When we
-
go to restaurants, I've taught you before, don't treat the
-
waiter as a waiter. You know, just the other day,
-
I went to a restaurant and somebody turned around to me.
-
I think it was Edward.
-
Edward said, Pastor, everywhere I go with you, to any restaurant,
-
the waiters seem to treat you like they know you
-
a long time. It's only because when you treat them
-
with respect, they're reciprocate. And they smile and they laugh.
-
And I, especially when you go to restaurants and most
-
of them are from Myanmar, right?
-
And then you go, you know, you speak in their language.
-
And then they look at me and go like, you know,
-
you know, you always shock them, you know, for the
-
first 30 seconds. And then when they do something for me,
-
you know, which is thank you. And then I learn
-
another word, means I'm hungry. And means I'm full. And
-
you try to learn other people's language. is what community
-
evaluated is part of. You care for them and they
-
show care for you. And it begins to get easier
-
when you want to invite them to church and to
-
tell them about Christ.
-
Now, you say, Pastor, is that all?
-
Because if it's just having favour with people, I'm a
-
very friendly man.
-
I go everywhere.
-
You know, even non-Christians can have favour with all people.
-
Is that it? is that full stop, period.
-
Because if that's it, then I think I should just
-
stand up and walk out because.
-
I'm already living it.
-
I already have a lot of favour with everyone and
-
sometimes favour can even be bought with money.
-
You know?
-
So what is the real goal of having favour with
-
all people?
-
Well, it's found in the same verse. And the next
-
slide will tell you.
-
It should result as you have favour with all people
-
and the Lord added to the church daily those who
-
were being saved.
-
Somebody say Amen.
-
It's got to result in a result that's bigger than
-
just having favour.
-
It's got to result in a result greater.
-
It's got to result in a result more eternal in
-
its purpose. And the Lord, when His church has favour
-
with people around, the Lord, you and I are making
-
God's job a little easier for Him to add. And
-
He doesn't just add weekly, not monthly, not yearly. The
-
Bible says daily. How many of you can believe for that?
-
Now listen, next year is evangelism. We have a dream. D-R-E-A-M.
-
For those of you who are new, D is we
-
want to be a church of discipleship. R, revival, which
-
is this year.
-
E is evangelism. A is action.
-
We don't just want to speak, talk. We want to act.
-
We love people around us, okay? Especially the people who
-
are not inside of the church. Together, we want to
-
do that. And M is missions. We want to go
-
outside our comfort zone, outside our own culture and our
-
own skin colour to care for people who are different
-
from us.
-
That's what missions mean. Those of you who think, why
-
do you spell missions with an S?
-
The difference between a mission without an S and a
-
missions with an S, I explained it before but I'll
-
explain it to you again. A mission is just a goal,
-
a target, something that you need to do, accomplish, achieve.
-
I am on a mission.
-
But when you are on missions with an S, always
-
speaks about a different culture. something that you are naturally
-
uncomfortable with. And God is asking us to go outside
-
of our own comfort zone, of our own family, of
-
our own language, of our own even food preference and
-
all kinds of preference. God wants us to go and
-
cross that boundary, cross sometimes that invisible boundary. God wants
-
us to cross that. Someone said before, I cross the
-
seas after I see the cross. It's only when you
-
see the cross that you can cross the seas. And
-
sometimes it doesn't have to be the seas because right
-
here in Malaysia, we have all kinds.
-
Of culture and all kinds of people. Somebody say amen.
-
They're all here.
-
God has brought them here so we can cross that sea.
-
but you need to first see the cross.
-
Amen.
-
So what is the real deal here in community evaluated
-
is that the Lord wants all to come to know Him.
-
That none should perish, but all come into everlasting life.
-
What we don't want to be, says the next slide,
-
is to be a church like the emperor's new clothes.
-
Have you heard of the parable before? It's by Hans
-
Christian Andersen. You can look it up. The short of
-
the long story is that there was a king who
-
really likes new clothes. And his people will, you know,
-
clap for him and shout praises and say,' King, oh king,
-
there is none arrayed like you. You're looking so good
-
in your Louis Vuitton.' and Armani, oh, king. And he
-
loves the praises of his people. He loves new clothes.
-
And so one day, he thought, you know, the stuff
-
I have is already boring. Can somebody just make me
-
something that's just extraordinary? And so they made him invisible clothes.
-
Remember this story? At first, he was like, are you sure?
-
And you know, they tricked him. To think that this
-
is the most beautiful and your people will praise you, right?
-
He's living in a bubble like some churches. Living thinking
-
that we look great.
-
And sometimes some people around us won't dare say anything
-
to us except that, yeah.
-
And so when he walked out naked, we all know
-
the story. He was strict, right?
-
So he's in a delusion and sometimes churches can be delusional.
-
Thinking that we are really making an impact but we're not.
-
And then all the people are praising, oh king! And
-
of course they're laughing by the side. But no one
-
wants to tell him the truth until a child, until
-
a child evaluated him, until a child evaluated him and said,
-
he's naked! Sometimes when we evaluate ourselves, we are really good. Husbands,
-
you know, we evaluate ourselves. There's no husband like me.
-
Right?
-
That's why when people ask me, Pastor, are you a
-
good husband? I say, you ask my wife. Somebody has
-
to evaluate. Pastor Andrew, are you a good wife? You
-
ask my husband. Are you good parents? Ask my children.
-
Are you good children? Ask my parents. It's always got
-
to be somebody else.
-
And we are not just talking about the church itself,
-
evaluating itself because, you know, either we go very good
-
or we go terrible. But we want people who don't
-
really know us, people who have not followed our Instagram
-
or Facebook to actually evaluate.
-
Not just our words but our action. Everybody okay? Okay?
-
We don't want to be a church that is impressive
-
on the inside but invisible.
-
On the outside.
-
One who blows his own trumpet but the walls of
-
Jericho do not fall. You know, sometimes we like to
-
blow our own trumpet. And nothing happens around you. We
-
don't want to be a church that talks about all
-
the good that we have done, but none of it
-
is felt by the community around us. The best kind
-
of evaluation is done by at least two witnesses, the
-
Bible says.
-
Only with two, if not three witnesses, can you make
-
a judgment. True? Bible.
-
So the best kind of evaluation is done by at
-
least two witnesses. One of them could be the church.
-
The church, yeah, you can if you want to evaluate yourself.
-
That's okay. That's not too bad. That's not wrong. That's
-
not sin. But it doesn't end there. It's incomplete.
-
The other witness to the evaluation must be the community.
-
The Bible says, so continuing daily with one accord in
-
the temple and breaking bread from house to house, they
-
ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God.
-
I put a pause to that because that first part
-
that we just read, that's the community within. The community
-
within has a say. And what did they say about themselves?
-
They said this, that daily they continue in one accord.
-
That's the church. In the temple, breaking bread from house,
-
that's not talking about the people outside. That's talking about
-
the people inside. They broke bread. They forgave each other.
-
They love each other. They, you know, step on each
-
other's toes but they forgave and love each other and
-
they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart
-
and they kept praising God. But then, after the church
-
within has evaluated of itself, it then begins to look
-
out and say, having favour with all the people. So
-
it's the two witnesses making the evaluation.
-
Is not complete without the second.
-
So let's talk about evaluation now, very quickly, just in
-
case some of you don't know what the true meaning is.
-
What is evaluation?
-
It is a process of carefully assessing something in relation
-
to its cost and or cause.
-
Alright?
-
There must be always something that you measure against. Is
-
it worth it? I paid a thousand ringgit. Is it
-
worth it? I came all the way to Kuen Ching.
-
Is it worth it? I am serving every Sunday. You
-
are evaluating the worth against a cost or a cause.
-
It's very important to determine its meaning. Is this meaningful
-
coming together today? Will you go out from this place
-
today in 45 minutes time saying it was really worth
-
every minute. My children loved it. My wife or husband
-
loved it. My family loved it. My friend loved it.
-
They really enjoyed it. They really felt it made so
-
much sense. And so all the effort that we put together,
-
all those who worked very hard last night and throughout
-
the whole conference, we get our satisfaction from the meaning
-
we have produced. But the evaluation is very important. So
-
we keep asking people, how do you feel? What do
-
you think? Because it will also determine the value and
-
the worthwhileness. This worthwhileness is actually a word. I had
-
to Google it. Is it worthiness or worthwhileness? And then,
-
you know, it says to me that worthiness and worthwhileness
-
is two different things.
-
So the word is, is it worthwhile?
-
It's worth our time. Determine the quality, the effectiveness, the significance,
-
impact and success. So that's what evaluation is in relation
-
to the cost or the cause. And you know, many
-
times we have a cause that you can't put a
-
price to.
-
And so, is it worthy of the cause?
-
And our cause is is the vision and the mission
-
and the calling that God has given us.
-
So that's evaluation.
-
Now, why is evaluation important?
-
It helps people understand.
-
How well they are performing, what they are doing right
-
and what they can improve.
-
That's why evaluation is important.
-
We don't just... for evaluating sake. We want to grow.
-
We want to develop.
-
Amen. We want to learn. We want to be better.
-
To justify the cause and or satisfy the cause. There
-
was one time, I want to be very honest with you,
-
Pastor Andrew and I sat down and had to ask
-
about the justification for some of our ministries. And some
-
leaders actually were quite disappointed with the way we were
-
taking it because, you know, they were asking for money
-
to print stuff or asking for money to do stuff
-
or asking for money to fulfill a certain idea. And
-
then we ask after the event, okay, for example, the
-
person says, I really believe that 200 young people is
-
going to come. So they ask us for money to
-
help feed 200 young people.
-
And then 70 came.
-
Now when 70 comes and we raise up money that
-
you guys gave out of love for God, we spend
-
now 130 more packets of food for only 70 that came.
-
Do you think or not that we have at least
-
the right to ask? But you might get upset because
-
so what?
-
Our aim was 200.
-
200. Right? And we had an intention for $ 200, 000. And
-
we believe for $ 200, 000 and we pray for $ 270, 000. I say, okay, fine,
-
no problem.
-
No problem. We also love young people, for example.
-
And then comes another time, they might aim for.
-
$ 500, 000. And $ 150, 000 comes. So now there's wastage of $ 350, 000.
-
So I want you to understand that even here in
-
this church, we, you know, we do not wantonly use
-
the money that God gives through you.
-
He blessed you and you gave to Him. You didn't
-
give to me.
-
You didn't give to anyone here. You didn't even give
-
to the church. You gave to God. And God uses
-
that money and we are supposed to be good stewards. Now,
-
of course, after you question third time and fourth time,
-
it becomes we are against the vision. We don't love
-
young people as much as you do, kind of thing.
-
So I want you to understand that evaluation is not
-
to come against you. It's not to discourage you, disappoint you.
-
It's not to bring you down. We have to learn
-
and get better. I want to give you another thought.
-
663 people signed up for the conference.
-
663. We only ordered food for 600.
-
600.
-
And so Elder Peng Ho came into my office and said, Pastor,
-
we are thinking of ordering more food because 600 and 663,
-
that's a big gap. I looked at him for a
-
while and I was praying in my spirit. I said, God,
-
he needs an answer now. Give me an answer and
-
I'll give it to him. And the Lord says, no. Because,
-
you know when people don't pay for stuff, they also
-
won't take responsibility.
-
So the conference was free.
-
And it's out of our desire to bless our people
-
that we make it free.
-
Really. We want more people to come and hear the
-
Word of God and be blessed and be transformed. That's
-
our heart.
-
That's really our heart. So we charge nothing. And so
-
people will sign up and a hundred people didn't come.
-
So the Lord already told me it won't even touch 600.
-
Although 663 people signed up. So I looked at Elder
-
Beng Ho and I said, Beng Ho, no, we will
-
not order more food. And Beng Ho says, okay pastor,
-
but if more come out, I say we will then
-
deal with it. We will go and grab food or
-
something like that. But we cannot waste God's money. We
-
cannot waste God's money. This is offering from young people
-
here who give of their allowance. People here who give
-
out their need unto the Lord. And they will be blessed.
-
No matter how the money is used, everyone will be
-
blessed because they gave to God. So even if it's
-
used wrongly also, the people who gave will still be blessed.
-
And God, of course, will deal with us who deal
-
with the money wrongly.
-
Yes? Elder Beng Ho was very quick.
-
All these years of me and him walking together, he
-
believes that I have some sort of wisdom from the Lord.
-
And he says, okay, Pastor, if you say so, good.
-
But okay, fine, we will.
-
And sure enough, yesterday he told me, Pastor, 563 or
-
something like that, people came.
-
So if we ordered more, it would have been a
-
hundred … Packs, wasted.
-
Of course, by then, we have to give another three
-
more people assignment to go and give to the guards
-
and to the highways and the byways.
-
I don't know what we'll do lah.
-
But you know, thank God that we have hungry people
-
who ate the remainder.
-
Praise the Lord. But do you understand what I'm trying
-
to say?
-
We want to make sure that we are accountable to God.
-
It's not just being accountable to you.
-
That's why people ask me, why don't we put our
-
accounts more on the screen? I am not, first of all,
-
accountable to you. I'm accountable to God. Are you still
-
with me? Very important distinction.
-
Alright?
-
If you want to stop giving, that's between you and
-
the Lord. If you want to continue giving, that's also
-
between you and the Lord.
-
Amen?
-
I didn't even plan to talk about money. This pastor
-
very seldom talks about money. Have you ever heard the
-
whole message of money?
-
Never. Because I don't need to try to conjure and
-
stir you up.
-
No. The Lord will touch your heart because this is
-
His church. And all the plans are His plans. And
-
all the visions are His visions. And all the missions
-
are His missions. And all the church plans are His.
-
He will provide. And if you want to be blessed,
-
you just obey the Lord. Just obey the Lord.
-
That's all. I do the same.
-
I don't get a salary for many years now. But
-
you know, it's not an excuse.
-
It's not an excuse because God will give to me
-
to give to Him. Hallelujah. Praise God.
-
So we evaluate. We must evaluate. Alright, we must. So
-
that we can do better. Not just for the church,
-
but for the Lord.
-
Amen.
-
Everybody okay ah? I know sometimes a bit serious. But
-
it's okay, it's truth. And I pray you receive the truth.
-
And the truth will continue to set you free. Amen.
-
Yesterday I had such a good time at the workshop.
-
Because you know, there were questions right, as I told
-
you earlier. And I taught the people that everything starts
-
from desire. But there's something deeper than desire called doctrine.
-
So the doctrine for Eve was, you cannot eat the fruit,
-
you cannot touch it lest you die.
-
That was doctrine.
-
If you live according to God's doctrine, your desire will follow.
-
But if your doctrine is wrong, your desire will follow that.
-
And so that's why Satan attacked the doctrine. You shall
-
die if you eat the fruit and if you touch it.
-
Satan says, you shall not surely die. So every day
-
we are being challenged by Satan to change our doctrine.
-
Our doctrine of money, our doctrine of love, our doctrine
-
of service. Eric Liddell had a doctrine that he doesn't
-
do anything else on Sunday except go to church. That
-
was his doctrine. And from the doctrine came a testimony.
-
But I don't know whether it's your doctrine, what you
-
can do on a Sunday. Maybe your doctrine has changed
-
and maybe now it's okay, God can meet me on
-
Wednesday or God can meet me on Tuesday.
-
It's okay. No, listen, you know, it's.
-
Very, very important to get from the Word of God
-
the truth, the doctrine. Doctrine means truth that you and
-
I believe in. But Satan will always attack, you shall
-
not surely die. If he can change, if he can
-
influence the doctrine, he will influence the desire. And everything
-
starts from desire. And then Eve looks at the fruit
-
and says, it is desirable for food. So her desire
-
changed according to her doctrine changed. So I want to
-
teach the Word of God as often as I can.
-
And Pastor Sandra helps me do that. And Elder Peng
-
Hu helps me do that. Elder King has me do that.
-
And all the elders here and speakers here. Doctrine is really,
-
really important to get right. Because it will, as I
-
say again, guide the desires of our people. The desire
-
for your family comes from the doctrine of what a
-
family is. Your desire to go for missions comes from
-
the doctrine of you believing that that's God's heart. Your
-
desire to give and to give more comes from the
-
doctrine of what the value of money is in your life. Amen.
-
We are not slaves to money. Money should be our
-
slaves and we use it for the glory of God.
-
Amen?
-
I pray that one of the greatest gifts that X
-
Church will have is the gift of generosity. Because that
-
usually tells us where our heart is. Because where our
-
treasure is, there our heart will be also. Listen, I
-
pray that X Church, no matter how small or big,
-
we will always be generous. A pastor went to speak
-
to a poor church in Tengah.
-
East Timor.
-
And there were two Singaporeans seated to visit because they
-
wanted to use Singapore money to bless the poor churches.
-
And the pastor saw the two Singaporeans because the rest
-
were all different colour and different look. So he said,
-
are you a foreigner? they waved their hand.
-
Yeah, yeah, yeah. From Singapore, they said. From Singapore. So
-
he said, would you come up, brothers? Would you come up?
-
And he come.
-
Why have you come all the way? Oh, we just
-
want to visit churches. Didn't say how much money they had.
-
Didn't say what they came here for. What the mission was.
-
They said, oh, wow, wonderful. You came all the way
-
to bless us? Yeah, you can say that.
-
The two guys on the stage said. He said, okay, listen.
-
Because you came all the way to bless us, we
-
want to bless you, right? So he says, guys, most
-
of them, 18, 19, 20, 21, and poor.
-
Poor.
-
And they rose up one by one to come to
-
the front and put money at their feet.
-
It's crazy. We were told the story by, what's his
-
name again? Y'all remember? Jim Yost. Yeah, Jim Yost. And
-
he came. And these two leaders.
-
From Singapore with a lot of money came to give
-
money to the church but they didn't say it.
-
So the pastor thought, let's bless you instead.
-
And so as the money is being, you know, some
-
are crumpled, some are, with sweat and dirty. It's just
-
all they had. They put it there and the two
-
pastors began to cry. They wept on stage. And the
-
pastor said, don't worry. Pastor, don't worry. Not pastor, but
-
don't worry, brothers.
-
Don't worry. Don't worry, it's okay. It's okay.
-
We just want to bless you. Then they took the
-
microphone and said, no, no, no, you don't understand. We
-
came here to bless you. We are from the richer country.
-
We are the ones with the mission's money. Millions of
-
dollars to give away. And you give to us? You know,
-
and then one of the Singaporeans whispered to the pastor's ear. Pastor,
-
ask them to stop. Ask them to stop because they're
-
so poor. And then the pastor whispered back to the
-
Singaporean ear. They don't know they are poor. I love
-
a church like that. We don't know we are poor
-
Who said we are poor? You think poor is just
-
about pocket or is poor about mentality? You can have
-
a wallet so thick with thousands of ringgits in notes
-
and a mind that is so bound by poverty, you
-
won't believe it. I don't want X Church to be
-
like that. Let the community evaluate us. Are we really
-
that good a church? Do we really practice what we preach?
-
To be a church that's evaluated by the community means
-
to take a serious look at how we are perceived.
-
That's right. How do they perceive us? Because perception is everything.
-
It might not be true, but perception is truth to
-
the one who has that perception. and experienced by the
-
people around us. Now, some questions we can ask ourselves.
-
Number one, are we genuinely serving the community? Number two,
-
do we really live out our values? Number three, how
-
are those around us treated? Number four, do we contribute positively,
-
even generously to our neighbours? Do our neighbours, number five,
-
want us in or out? Can you imagine if your
-
neighbours want you out? I don't know when these guys
-
all will get out.
-
Nuisance.
-
Do you want to be a church like that? I'll
-
be very honest with you. FGAKL, once upon a time,
-
was a nuisance to their neighbours. And I was part
-
of that church. I tell you because the story ends well.
-
I only talk about other people when the story ends well.
-
When the story doesn't end well, I don't talk about
-
other people, okay? Story must end well for you to
-
have the right to talk about other people. Listen, this
-
is also a doctrine of mine. And the doctrine will
-
guide my desire. So, I was put in charge after
-
I gave up my law degree and went to full-time.
-
The Lord says to me, do something for FGA. Okay?
-
Do something for FGA.
-
At that time, I think AYA was just an idea
-
in my mind. Okay, I was still, you know, faithfully
-
serving my church, FJKL. And they told me, the neighbours,
-
quite a few of them, don't like the way our members.
-
In FJKL park their cars. Because it's very unique.
-
FJKL, in once upon a time, Taman Goodwood, not sure
-
how good the wood was, but you know, Right there.
-
And the church was growing, multiplying. At one time, I
-
don't know if it was 5,000 people or many years ago.
-
You're talking about 40 years ago, you know, 35 years ago, okay?
-
A growing, expanding, exploding church. Alright?
-
And Christians, because we are going, you see, to church
-
for the Lord, right?
-
We forget the lost.
-
And we park anywhere we want to because God will
-
forgive us.
-
You know what I'm saying?
-
Because we are going to worship Him. So park anywhere
-
and park everywhere. We forgot there was a community around
-
the church. Who pi pi what, no? From pi pi,
-
they want to say bye bye to you. So every day,
-
pi pi, bye bye, bye bye.
-
They want to bye bye FJKL.
-
And so, it was on my lap, the.
-
Mission. to do something about this. Can you imagine? I
-
was 24 years old.
-
And I thought about it, thought about it, thought about it.
-
Why are they angry with us? Because of parking. Because
-
people park so long. Because after church, must fellowship some more, right?
-
And the Lord loves fellowship. Sometimes block other people's car.
-
Some have even parked in front of people's house, I'm
-
telling you, seriously. These people need to be born again, again. Christians,
-
you cannot do this. I'm telling you right now, please.
-
Stop being worse than an unbeliever, you know. So, I said,
-
I'm going to go to the supermarket. Come, I've put
-
a team around me. And we're going to buy all
-
the goodies. I just need a budget. And they gave
-
me something like 3,000 ringgit. Talking about 32 years ago.
-
32 years ago. RM3, 000. I went and we bought all
-
the goodies and came back and wrapped it into hampers.
-
Because to buy hampers, very expensive. So we have to
-
do our own hampers. Own wrapping. We put all the goodies,
-
stacked up very high. Chinese people like hampers. Do you
-
know that? We didn't put alcohol, we put ibina. But
-
never mind.
-
And then, There were so many hampers. There were probably
-
about 40 houses around the church. So we put the
-
hampers into the van, church van. Church had many vans.
-
So I used one of it. And we stacked it.
-
And then I got about three or four people to
-
come with me.
-
I think there were more.
-
Maybe seven people, eight people. And we went house to house.
-
I stood in front of the house. Hello. Hello.
-
Anyone at home? Some people didn't.
-
Reply me because they don't understand hello anyone at home.
-
So I had to speak something else. I'll say, All
-
the tongues come out. Then Tamil also, I tried.
-
Hello? Is there anyone at home? They understood me. They
-
understood me. I could spell banana in Tamil, no? B-A-N-A-N-A. Banana.
-
Indians have become my friends. I was about to sing
-
them the Indian song. You know I know Indian song?
-
Bind us together, Lord.
-
Bind us together with cords that cannot be broken. Okay,
-
I don't have time anymore so I won't sing the
-
full song. Bind us together with love. Okay, so that's
-
why I went from door to door. Door to door. Hello, hello, hello, hello, hello.
-
Huh? 40 hampers.
-
38 was taken. There are two still hate us. They
-
knew we are from the church.
-
Huh, serious?
-
So angry because maybe those guys really suffered lah. They
-
suffered big time. One time, I think someone set fire
-
behind the church. Another time, someone broke the aircon compressor.
-
So the whole church didn't have aircon. Do you know
-
we need our neighbours? You know why you feel safe
-
in your house? Because you got neighbours. Try to live
-
in a house whereby behind nobody stay, side nobody stay,
-
front nobody stay. You will think 10,000 times before you
-
want to stay there. It's our neighbours that cause us
-
to feel safety.
-
We need them. Don't just because you're Christian.
-
Some corner of the building, you think you're isolated and insulated.
-
No. Everybody okay? Love your neighbour as.
-
I know you all love yourself. Can you love your
-
neighbour as yourself? That's the question. Itulah soalan muktamat. 38 people.
-
Some of them allowed me. Half of them allowed me
-
to go inside. Aunty, aunty, I'm from church.
-
Oh, church ah. Beradiful. I don't know. Want to scold me? Yeah,
-
scold you.
-
They don't even say beradiful well. They say beradiful. Okay, okay.
-
I thought he was calling me brotherful. Okay, so I said,
-
hello auntie. And I talked to them. I said, I
-
just want to let you know, auntie, uncle, this church
-
I come from, so sorry.
-
Sometimes people, they don't know where to park. I know
-
we have hurt your feelings.
-
Talk.
-
Hello. And then they also want to chok chok a bit.
-
Hello.
-
Ya lah. So stupid, no? They all like, yeah, I know,
-
I know, I know. I know, auntie, yeah. There are
-
also stupid ones among us. I know, auntie, auntie. Not
-
all Christians are smart. Okay, sorry, sorry. Eh, humble yourself, wey.
-
Buat bodoh. Make stupid, no? Auntie, uncle, uncle. Wah, some, some. Yeah,
-
you know.
-
I tell you, you need a gun. Uncle, uncle, so sorry.
-
What else can you do? It's not your car, ma.
-
If it was your car, you'd say, take my car
-
and burn, you know. Take it for the next sacrifice,
-
you know, whatever. But no, no, listen, 38. And some said,
-
thank you. But from that day onwards, FGA had no
-
more trouble with their neighbours. From that, come on, I
-
think God deserves a big clap.
-
You get evaluated by your community.
-
Let them tell you how good you really are. Let
-
them tell you how nice you really are. Tell you
-
another story about our church in Summit. So as we
-
are growing and growing and growing, thank God no parking issue. Hallelujah,
-
praise God. And please, if Summit still got parking issue, oh,
-
I tell you, I want to say good word already
-
outside of my mouth.
-
Opposite.
-
And, and, and, And we were growing. And you remember
-
those days when we went to Sunway? Because we were
-
so big, we went to Sunway. And we were probably
-
the first church to use it every week. Sunway Convention Centre.
-
SPCC.
-
Alright, one of the, I think, very first church to
-
use it every week. For six months to seven months,
-
we used it every week.
-
Growing, growing, growing. Wow, the foyer full of people. Oh, great. Then,
-
I remember going back to Summit. Just walking around.
-
And the owners of the restaurant will look at me
-
and say, Pastor, you are a pastor, right?
-
Oh, I don't want to scold me, you know. Okay,
-
I said, never mind. I've had experience with FGA already.
-
I think I can handle anything. I'm ready to call
-
myself stupid already. I'm ready already. So I go and say, yes, yes, yes.
-
I'm the pastor. You're pastor, ah. Why nobody in the
-
church come to eat in our restaurant? I said, that
-
one also you want to blame me, ah. Boy, everything
-
gonna blame, no? I said, no, no, no. And the
-
truth is, I do walk.
-
Around on Sunday and I find every restaurant is filled
-
with our people. Even the worst restaurant. And you know
-
why the worst restaurant get filled? Because the better ones
-
are all filled. So then I say, I might as
-
well just eat here, right? And then you pray, oh Lord,
-
not only bless this food, but make it tasty.
-
Thank you, in Jesus' name. The Lord answers all our prayers.
-
He says, what's your name? I said, Kenneth. Pastor Kenneth ah? Yeah.
-
Pastor Kenneth, do us a favour. Next time your church
-
doesn't meet here, please tell us in advance.
-
I said, why?
-
Because of your church ah, we all, then he's pointing
-
to all the restaurants because they all talk already. All
-
the restaurants came together to talk about Acts. Eh, you also,
-
you also lost money ah? You also lost money ah?
-
You also, you know what they do? Have you heard
-
me tell you this story?
-
You know what they do?
-
They buy three days worth of food just for Sunday.
-
You know how many restaurants have prospered because of eggs?
-
I praise God for that. I haven't gone around asking
-
for commission. You have to do it. You have to.
-
Do it.
-
You have to do it. You have to do it. Call, sorry. Commission, faster, right?
-
Someone do salary, you know. Restaurant to restaurant.
-
No, no. We want to bless the community around us.
-
Their joy is my joy. Their happiness is my happiness.
-
They thinking the world of ex-church is hallelujah. That's the
-
kind of church we must be. But they buy three
-
days of food without the refrigeration to put it in.
-
because they know Acts Church will finish it before 12
-
or before 1.
-
So they put their food up by the side. Don't
-
have to refrigerate for the night. Do you understand?
-
They wasted all three days of food. All three days
-
of food. Every restaurant. Please tell us, Pastor.
-
That you're not meeting here. But I'm talking about the impact.
-
That's the real influence of a church.
-
Amen? To bless... the people around you.
-
Is there consistency between what the church teaches and what
-
it does? Please don't say, no, you're from X, if
-
you're going to be rude to the waiters downstairs.
-
I'd rather you say, you're from another church. Oi, oi, oi. Ah,
-
the waiter come to you. Oh, oh yes, yes, yes. Ah, ah,
-
why you so long? Why you take so long ah?
-
Then you order. Pastor, I'm hungry. You're from the church upstairs.
-
Please say no. I can give you some other names
-
to use. Don't do that also.
-
God is not pleased.
-
If our community evaluated us by our actions more than
-
our words, what would they say about us? Community evaluation,
-
next slide, is a form of accountability, isn't it? Reminding
-
us of our calling and purpose to be the salt
-
of the earth and the light of the world. You
-
are the salt of the earth but if the salt
-
loses its flavour, do you know that salt can lose
-
its flavour?
-
Hardly, but it can happen. You know what it's then
-
good for?
-
Nothing.
-
Nothing.
-
So please stop evaluating your church as something when other
-
people around you say, nothing lah.
-
We don't benefit from this church at all. The worst
-
thing is we get people parking in front of our house.
-
That's all we get. You understand?
-
So if you're going to be salt that loses its flavour,
-
the Bible says, we have become nothing better to throw
-
on the floor, let people.
-
Trample over you. Yeah.
-
Not Kenneth Chin's word, God's word. You are the light
-
of the world. The city that is set on a
-
hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp
-
and put it under a basket. But on a lampstand,
-
and it gives light to all who are in the house.
-
Let your light so shine.
-
Amen.
-
And at the end of the day, I highlighted and
-
underlined the word, glorify your Father. That's the bottom line
-
of why we want to be salt and light so
-
that our Father can be glorified. Can I hear a
-
good amen? Yeah, that you might see your good works
-
and glorify your Father. God, get all the glory when
-
ex-church moves, when ex-church walks the ground, when ex-church blesses
-
the restaurants. Get all the glory. So these are in
-
your notes. If you have your booklet, you can take
-
it down. Number one, true evaluation comes from others besides ourselves.
-
True evaluation comes from others besides ourselves.
-
Next slide.
-
Self-evaluation is good but incomplete. Don't ask me if I'm
-
a good husband, ask my wife. Don't ask me if
-
I'm a good dad, ask my children. Don't ask me
-
if I'm a good boss, ask my staff. And my
-
staff say, it's about 10%. I'll have a word with
-
the other 90% on Monday.
-
No, just kidding.
-
I love my staff so much to bits because all
-
of them have been called by God. And without them,
-
I don't think we can get our job done. Thank
-
God for the people. I rarely call them staff. I
-
call them team. They are my team. What a great
-
team God has blessed us with. I think the rest
-
of the ex-church should clap for our team.
-
Really, come.
-
Really, really, seriously. All right. Many of the people sitting
-
at the front here, amazing, amazing, amazing.
-
Amazing.
-
We have about, we have about maybe 32, 33 staff.
-
works in the office every day. And then another, maybe
-
close to 25 staff in Victory Academy. And then another,
-
I don't know, eight, nine staff in Little Legends.
-
Altogether, it's about 70 of us staff.
-
And so yeah, I seem to be a boss of
-
a small to medium-sized company.
-
But it's a church, it's not just a company. Amen.
-
And we're doing, shining the light, trying to be salt
-
and light every day by the grace of God.
-
The true impact and.
-
Influence of a church comes not from what it says
-
about itself, but what others, especially non-members, have to say
-
about it. Including other churches within the community. Let me
-
just speak about that for one minute. In Love Subang,
-
you know, and Love Subang is a group of pastors
-
in Subang.
-
I go … Elder Peng Ho, I know you go now.
-
But I used to go to the Love Subang Pastors
-
Fellowship never ever having any sense of insecurity that anyone
-
would look at me and say, Pastor, you stole our sheep.
-
I go with a pure heart and clean hands. Because
-
the community around you that evaluates you is also the
-
churches around you. And I don't want one day when
-
I face Jesus that a group of pastors is before
-
the Lord saying that, You know, this guy took 10%
-
of our church. This guy took half of our church.
-
I don't dare stand before Jesus. And have, first of all,
-
the community evaluated, right? And the community is also the
-
churches around. Do not ever go and plant a church
-
and destroy other churches. Until today, I haven't planted any
-
church around Malaysia because I know that when X Church
-
goes in, people will come to ours. Because we are
-
very good young people. But I will destroy the other
-
churches around us. I cannot afford to do that. I
-
am not a church breaker. I am a church maker.
-
Are you all still with me? Very important. Because I
-
know I am going to stand before Jesus one day.
-
And what is the community? You know, I went one
-
time to Australia. I tell you, I won't tell you
-
the church. But I met with a group of pastors.
-
Twenty of them. And every one of them had something
-
bad to say about this new church. Because my youth
-
pastor left to join that church. Oh, my leader went to,
-
you know. I tell you, it's the worst thing to
-
have brothers, churches in the community only have bad things
-
to say about you. Oh, listen ladies and gentlemen, I
-
pray ex-church will never get there.
-
We must be a blessing to the churches around us.
-
I am very serious about this. Very serious. I rather
-
new people, somebody say amen. New people or people who
-
are not going to church come.
-
Because it's very scary when the community evaluates you and say,
-
he destroyed us more than built us.
-
He robbed us more than gave to us. Oh my God.
-
Let another man praise you and not your own mouth.
-
A stranger and not your own lips. Do you know
-
that word? Very good word. I'm drawing to the last lap.
-
The church is the church where only when it exists
-
for others.
-
Dietrich Bonhoeffer said very well.
-
But there's another good saying by Archbishop William Temple. The
-
church is the only society that exists for the benefit
-
of those who are not its members.
-
Let that sit for a while. Number two, the church
-
cannot be insulated. That's in your notes.
-
The church cannot be insulated or protected from the world.
-
If you believe that, say Amen.
-
Cannot.
-
Now I am no longer in the world, Jesus said,
-
but these are in the world. And I come to you,
-
Holy Father, keep.
-
Somebody say keep. Keep means preserve.
-
Many of us want to preserve what we have, our tradition,
-
our culture, our church. We don't want to mingle with anybody.
-
We don't want to serve anybody else. We don't want
-
to do anything with anybody. We just want to keep
-
everything to ourselves. And yet Jesus says, you know, the
-
keeping is done by God.
-
So keep through your name. Amen.
-
Those whom you have given me, that they may be
-
one as we are. While I was with them in
-
the world, I kept, somebody say kept, them in your name.
-
So Jesus keeps us. Those whom you gave me, I
-
have kept.
-
At least three times in this Scripture, Jesus is talking
-
about keep, keep, keep. So if you want to keep
-
Acts Church and preserve Acts Church, the only way is
-
to serve the Lord and serve others. None of them
-
is lost. So we only lost one. The son of
-
perdition who only thought about himself. Judas only thought about
-
enriching himself, so he stole from the treasury. If you
-
only think about yourself, you're going to be lost. But
-
if you want to be kept, you want to keep
-
your family. You see, I talk to a lot of
-
family members, especially parents, who are overprotective. The more overprotective
-
you are in keeping your children, the more you will
-
lose them. And so I tell parents, please be protective
-
but not overprotective. Don't be a helicopter parent. Or today
-
it's not helicopter, it's drone.
-
Don't.
-
Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it. And
-
whoever loses his life will preserve it.
-
Keep it. You really want to keep? Then lose. Give. Give.
-
Let go of that money in your hand. Let go
-
of that talent. Let go of that gifting. Serve. Go
-
for missions. Go out there. Give hampers to your neighbours.
-
Because if you seek to save your life, you lose
-
it and you lose your life, you will preserve it.
-
Can I hear a good amen? He is no fool.
-
We read this yesterday when Dr Goh Chee Leong shared
-
with us. He is no fool who gives what he
-
cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose. So you
-
will never be a fool if you keep giving and
-
serving the Lord's purpose. God will make sure that you
-
will be able to keep what you give.
-
You will never lose.
-
Number three, and this is the final lap. The church
-
must not be isolated. There's a difference between insulated. Insulated
-
is protect. Protect from the heat, you insulate yourself. Protect
-
from the cold, you insulate yourself.
-
Preserve, keep. But isolated means you are separated. from the world.
-
And the church must not be isolated from community. Let's
-
look at some Scripture before we close. Keep oneself unspotted
-
from the world, you know. Do not be conformed to
-
this world. Do not love the world or the things
-
of the world or in the world.
-
Come out from among them and be separate.
-
So Christians are conflicted and confused because they have Scriptures
-
like these that make them think that you should separate
-
yourself from the world and not have fellowship with the
-
world and not give hampers to your neighbours who hate
-
you and not bless the restaurants in Summit, you.
-
Know, and cause them to prosper.
-
You know, if they buy three days of food to
-
feed us on Sunday, it means that we have blessed
-
them with three days of profit. At least. At least.
-
Meaning to say that if they don't work the next
-
three days, they will still survive. Because we, you know,
-
paid all their bills for three days in one day. So,
-
you know, if you have the mentality because of these scriptures, unsported,
-
I don't.
-
Want to be sported. So smelly.
-
I don't want, so dirty. So you isolate. Oh, this
-
is such a nice place. Nobody here that is different
-
from me.
-
Oh, this is nice.
-
And then we start having our own Christian club. Christian CF,
-
many times in school, is on the top floor at
-
the corner. You know, when I first started AYA, I said, Lord,
-
enough of Christian CF on the top floor, furthest away
-
in the classroom where we.
-
Cannot hear them. Enough. Enough.
-
We should be, that's why we came up with Revo.
-
Because Revo gave Coca-Cola to the guard. The young guy
-
will go to the guard house and say, Uncle, very hot, huh?
-
Uncle say, oh, are you thirsty? Uncle say, yes. And
-
they give Uncle a.
-
Drink. Revo wanted to bring the.
-
Isolated Christian CF down to the world.
-
Write thank you cards to their teachers. Everybody okay?
-
So don't be conflicted because it doesn't mean that. It
-
doesn't mean that. Look at 1 Corinthians 5, 9-10. I
-
wrote to you in my episode. Oh, sorry, in my episode.
-
In my epistle.
-
It does look like time is up.
-
I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep
-
company with sexually immoral people.
-
That's right. Don't keep company with them.
-
Yet, I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral
-
people of this world or with the covetous or extortioners
-
or idolaters since you would need to go out of
-
the world. many times when the Scripture is asking us
-
not to be unspotted and to separate ourselves, it's actually
-
from Christians themselves who act worse than the world. My
-
father-in-law used to tell me, why do you get angry
-
with the world who doesn't even know that it's a sin?
-
You get angry with the Christian who knows better and
-
does not live it. Why do you judge a non-Christian
-
who doesn't know better himself unless he's taught?
-
So don't get angry with them. Forgive them for they
-
know not what they.
-
So when we separate, we separate from Christians who act worse.
-
Than unbelievers.
-
He says, if they are sexually immoral, just cut off.
-
But I'm not talking about the sexually immoral of the world.
-
They need Jesus. So go to them. Tell them about
-
my love.
-
For God so loved the world. He loved the world.
-
He doesn't hate it. So you and I must not
-
hate it. He gave His only begotten Son that whoever
-
believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
-
For God did not send His Son into the world
-
to condemn the world. Amen.
-
But that the world through Him might be saved. Last
-
three slides. Last three slides. And He said to them,
-
Go into all the.
-
And preach. The world needs Jesus. Our neighbours need Jesus.
-
The owners of this school need Jesus.
-
I don't know whether they have come to know the Lord.
-
But if they haven't, they do. So, sometimes I can
-
continue meeting here. Leaders, I'm talking to you at the
-
front now. Sometimes we can continue meeting here so that
-
we can get to them. So that I can shake
-
their hands. Dr Go Chi Leong, when he finished Speaking yesterday,
-
he gave me an offer. He said, Pastor Kenneth, there
-
are 6,000 students in the Subang campus in University, Help University.
-
He says, we need a director of student activities. He said,
-
would you consider? Would you have a staff for me?
-
And then he gave me two positions. He says, if
-
you can take these positions, I want to be able
-
to give you the power to be able to influence 6,000 lives.
-
So if anyone here wants to work for university, come
-
and see me. But you've got to have the goods.
-
Because it's not just about making all the students' lives
-
there great. Actually, Pastor Ronson is having the exact job
-
in Taylors. It's a director job of students. 6,000 students.
-
I prayed about this this morning. I woke up very early.
-
I woke up, I think already 5.15 in the morning.
-
I woke up in my quiet time. And in my
-
quiet time, I said, Lord, I bring before you Dr Goh's.
-
Request.
-
6,000 students, a lot. I don't just want to be
-
a good pastor within the four walls of a church.
-
You didn't call me to be that. You didn't call us,
-
any one of us to be that. To be living
-
in our comfort zone. No, there's a big world out there. Amen. Ah,
-
I just think about it so I rejoice in my heart.
-
That there are opportunities everywhere. Opportunities everywhere you look.
-
Go, go. This is a missions conference. Go.
-
I do not pray that you should take them out
-
of the world.
-
What, what Lord? I do not pray that you should
-
take them out of the world. Really? But that you
-
should keep them. Oh, there you go again. Keep them,
-
preserve them from the evil one. Amen.
-
They are not of the world. Jesus says, I am
-
not of the world. Sanctify them by your truth. Your
-
word is truth. As you send me into the world,
-
I also send them into the world.
-
Oh, I see.
-
So, to actually be pure and sanctified is not to
-
keep away from the dirty.
-
And the corrupted.
-
No, because it is God's Word that keeps me sanctified.
-
Sanctify them by your truth. Your Word is truth. So
-
it doesn't mean that when I'm trying to witness to
-
a friend who has a messed up life and is
-
committing adultery and is corrupted, it doesn't mean it makes
-
me corrupted. Are you still with me? Because I'm not
-
sanctified by him. I'm sanctified by the Word. Sanctify them
-
by your truth.
-
Your Word is? Your Word is? Truth. Amen.
-
As you send me into the world, I also have
-
sent them into the world. Last slide is a question.
-
Last slide is a question. Will Summit miss us.
-
If we are gone? Good question.
-
Or will they say, good riddance to bad rubbish? Will
-
our neighbours miss us when we are gone? Will our
-
company miss us when we change to another company? Will
-
Malaysia miss us if the church ceases to exist? Or
-
is the church good for nothing? And all we do
-
is care for ourselves. And Malaysia burns and even goes
-
down the drain because we do nothing for the people
-
around us. Will Malaysia miss us if tomorrow there's no
-
more church in Malaysia?
-
I pray not. I pray not. Hallelujah.
-
Oh, thank You, Lord. Thank You, Lord. There are two
-
important days in your life. The day you were born
-
and the day you realise why you were born. The
-
day you were born and the day you realise there
-
is purpose in your life. The day Acts Church realises
-
there is a plan that God has for us to
-
become a church.
-
We are blessed to be a blessing. Come on, stand
-
to your feet.
-
And I want the worship team, as you're leading us
-
in worship, I want a song that gives God glory, okay?
-
I don't want any other nice sounding song, just a
-
song that even if you say, I worship you Almighty God,
-
that's fine. I just want God to be glorified in
-
our worship. Okay, because missions is all about glorifying God.
-
Being community evaluated is all about glorifying God. They will
-
see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
-
So go ahead, lead us as we worship the Lord.
-
May our hearts.
-
Begin to burn with purpose that from today onwards, We
-
will not just evaluate, I say, to ourselves, but we
-
will have the people around us, even our families, our
-
unsaved loved ones. And definitely, wherever we are planted, Klang, Semenye,
-
Sri Kembangan, come on.
-
It's not by chance or by accident that the Lord
-
planted us there. Kota Kemuning. Not by chance, not by accident.
-
And as we worship the Lord, let it burn in
-
your heart.
-
Catch a dream to be the salt of the earth
-
and the light of the world.
-
Treat people kindly. Love the people around you. How will
-
they know Christ if we will not shine? Let's be
-
community evaluated. That's X Church.
-
We hope you've been blessed by this message. For more
-
information on our church, please visit axechurch.org. We are also
-
active on Facebook and Instagram. We're believing that this week
-
is going to be a good week ahead for you.
-
God bless.
