  1. Malachi Malachi one one the oracle of the word of

  2. the Lord to Israel by Malachi.

  3. I have loved you, says the Lord. But you say,

  4. how have you loved us? Is not Esau, Jacob's brother,

  5. declares the Lord. Yet I have loved Jacob. But Esau

  6. I have hated. I have laid waste his hill country

  7. and left his heritage to jackals of the desert. If

  8. Edom says, we are shattered, but we will rebuild the ruins.

  9. The Lord of Hosts says, they may build, but I

  10. will tear down, and they will be called the wicked

  11. country and the people with whom the Lord is angry.

  12. Forever your own eyes shall see this, and you shall say.

  13. Great is the Lord Lord beyond the border of Israel.

  14. A son honors his father, and a servant his master.

  15. If then I am a father, where is my honor?

  16. And if I am a master, where is my fear?

  17. Says the Lord of Hosts to you, O priests who

  18. despise by name?

  19. But you say, how have we despised your name.

  20. By offering polluted food upon my altar?

  21. But you say, how have we polluted you.

  22. By saying that the Lord's table may be despised. When

  23. you offer blind animals in sacrifice, is that not evil?

  24. And when you offer those that are lame or sick?

  25. Is that not evil? Present that to your governor? Will

  26. he accept you or show you favor? Says the Lord

  27. of Hosts. And now entreat the favor of God, that

  28. he may be graces to us. With such a gift

  29. from your hand. Will he show favor to any of you,

  30. says the Lord of Hosts. Oh, so that there were

  31. one among you who would shut the doors, that you

  32. might not kindle fire on my altar in vain. I

  33. have no pleasure in you, says the Lord of Hosts.

  34. And I will not accept an offering from your hand.

  35. For from the rising of the sun to its setting,

  36. my name will be great among the nations, and in

  37. every place incense will be offered to my name, And

  38. a pure offering for my name will be great among

  39. the nations, says the Lord of Hosts. But you profane

  40. it when you say that the Lord's table is polluted

  41. and its fruit, that is, its food may be despised.

  42. But you say what a wariness this is, and you

  43. snort at it, says the Lord of Hosts. You bring

  44. what has been taken by violence, or is lame or sick.

  45. And this you bring as your offering, shall I accept

  46. that from your hand, says the Lord. Cursed be the

  47. cheat who has a male in his flock and vows it,

  48. and yet sacrifices to the Lord what is blemished. For

  49. I am a great king, says the Lord of Hosts,

  50. and my name will be feared among the nations.

  51. Melachi too.

  52. And now o priests, this command is for you. If

  53. you will not listen, if you will not take it

  54. to heart to give honor to my name, says the

  55. Lord of Hosts, then I will send the curse upon you,

  56. and I will curse your blessings. Indeed I have already

  57. cursed them, because you do not lay it to heart. Behold,

  58. I will rebuke your offspring and spread dung on your faces,

  59. the dung of your offerings, and you shall be taken

  60. away with it. So shall you know that I have

  61. sent this command to you, that my covenant with Levi

  62. may stand, says the Lord of Hosts. My covenant with

  63. him was one of life and peace, and I gave

  64. them to him. It was a covenant of fear, and

  65. he feared me. He stood in awe of my name.

  66. True instruction was in his mouth, and no wrong was

  67. found on his lips. He walked with me in peace

  68. and uprightness, and he turned many from iniquity. For the

  69. lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and people should

  70. seek construction from his mouth, for he is the messenger

  71. of the Lord of Hosts. But you have turned aside

  72. from the way. You have caused many to stumble. By

  73. your instructions. You have corrupted the covenant of Levi, says

  74. the Lord of Hosts. And so I make you despise

  75. then a base before all the people, inasmuch as you

  76. do not keep my ways, but show partiality in your instruction.

  77. Have we not all one father? Has not one God

  78. created us? Why then are we faithless to one another,

  79. profaning the covenant of our fathers. Judah has been faithless,

  80. and abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusal.

  81. For Judah has profaned the sanctuary of the Lord which

  82. he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign God.

  83. May the Lord cut off from the tents of Jacob.

  84. Any descendant of the man who does this, who brings

  85. an offering to the Lord of Hosts and this second

  86. thing you do. You cover the Lord's altar with tears,

  87. with weeping and groaning, because he no longer regards the

  88. offering or accepts it with favor from your hand. But

  89. you say, why does he not? Because the Lord was

  90. witnessed between you and the wife of your youth, to

  91. whom you have been faithless, though she is your companion

  92. and your wife by covenant? Did he not make them

  93. one with a portion of the spirit in their union?

  94. And what was the one God seeking godly offspring? So

  95. guard yourselves in your spirit, and let none of you

  96. be faithless to the wife of your youth. For the

  97. man who does not love his wife but divorces her,

  98. says the Lord. The God of Israel, covers his garment

  99. with violence, says the Lord of Hosts. So guard yourselves

  100. and your spirit, and do not be faithless. You have

  101. wearied the Lord with your words. But you say, how

  102. have we wearied him by saying.

  103. Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of

  104. the Lord, and he delights in them.

  105. Or by asking where.

  106. Is the God of justice?

  107. Melachi three, Behold, I send my messenger, and he will

  108. prepare the way before me and the Lord whom you

  109. seek will suddenly come to his temple, and the messenger

  110. of the Covenant in whom you delight behold, he is coming,

  111. says the Lord of Hosts. But who can endure the

  112. day of his coming, and who who could stand what

  113. he appears? For he is like a refiner's fire, and

  114. like fuller soap. He will sit as a refiner and

  115. purifier of silver. And he will purify the sons of

  116. Levi and refine them like gold and silver, And they

  117. will bring offerings in righteousness to the Lord. Then the

  118. offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the Lord,

  119. as in the days of old, and as in former years.

  120. Then I will draw near to you for judgment. I

  121. will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers,

  122. against those who swear falsely, against those who oppress the

  123. hired worker in his rages, the widow and the fatherless,

  124. against those who thrust aside the sojourner. And do not

  125. fear me, says the Lord of Hosts, For I the Lord,

  126. do not change.

  127. Therefore, you, o, children of Jacob, are not consumed from

  128. the days of your father's You have turned to side

  129. from my statutes and have not kept them. Return to me,

  130. and I will return to you, says the Lord of Hosts.

  131. But you say, how shall we return? Will man rob God?

  132. Yet you are robbing me? But you say, how have

  133. we robbed you? In your tithes and contributions? You are

  134. cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me. The

  135. whole nation of you. Bring the full tithe into the storehouse,

  136. that there may be food in my house, and thereby

  137. put me to the tests, says the Lord of Hosts.

  138. If I will not open the windows of heaven for

  139. you and pour down for you a blessing until there

  140. is no more need, I will rebuke the devourer for you,

  141. so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil,

  142. and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear,

  143. says the Lord of Hosts. Then all nations will call

  144. you blessed, for you will be a land of delight,

  145. says the Lord of Hosts. Your words have been hard

  146. against me, says the Lord.

  147. But you say, how have we spoken against you? You

  148. have said it.

  149. Is fain to serve God. What is the prophet of

  150. our keeping his charge?

  151. Or of walking as in mourning before the Lord of Hosts.

  152. And now recall the arrogant blesseeth evil doers not only prosper,

  153. but they put God to the test, and they escape.

  154. Then those who feared the Lord spoke with one another.

  155. The Lord paid attention and heard them, and the book

  156. of remembrance was written before him. Of those who feared

  157. the Lord and esteemed.

  158. His name, they shall be mine, says the Lord of Hosts.

  159. In the day when I make up my treasured possessions,

  160. and I will spare them as a man spares his

  161. son who serves him. Then once more you shall see

  162. the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between one

  163. who serves God and one who does not serve.

  164. Him Malachi four.

  165. For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven,

  166. when all the arrogant and all evil doers will be stubble.

  167. The day that is coming shall set them a blaze,

  168. says the Lord of Hosts, so that it will leave

  169. them neither root nor branch. But for you who fear

  170. my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing

  171. in its wings. You shall go out, leaping like calves

  172. from the stall, and you shall tread down the wicket.

  173. For they will be ashes under the soles of your feet.

  174. On the day when I act, says the Lord of Hosts,

  175. Remember the law of my servant Moses, the statutes and

  176. rules that I commanded him at Horeb. For all Israel behold,

  177. I will send you Elijah, the Prophet before the great

  178. and awesome day of the Lord. Come, and he will

  179. turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the

  180. hearts of children to their fathers. Lest I come and

  181. strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.
