-
Happy Monday, we are back in with the ERC Leftovers podcast.
-
I can't even look at you. I can't bring you anywhere.
-
What do you do? We haven't we just hit record?
-
What? How are you just talking?
-
About like breathing way too much when we talk like high and
-
you just I felt like you extended the happy Monday like
-
did you do that on purpose? And then you just started
-
hyperventilating. Like what?
-
Oh, so we on on theme Chris this morning.
-
It's already the the Ask Me Anything episode, which usually
-
gets a little a little crazy and more off the rails than usual.
-
We're already, we're just starting off the rails.
-
We're not even getting off the rails.
-
We were never on the rails like. You did that on purpose.
-
Set him. Up it was a setup.
-
Am I, am I crazy? There's, there's two other
-
people with us today, Matt, am I crazy?
-
Did he extend the the breathiness of that word happy?
-
I I didn't feel it. I think you're sensitive.
-
I think you were looking for it. You were looking for it.
-
Veto Vetoed I've. Been voted off the island on
-
that one. Thanks for having my back, guys.
-
Along with me, Pastor Matt, and the incredibly distracted Pastor
-
Chris. Kristen's here.
-
She's back with us and I'm also sitting in on the AMA episode
-
this week. You're back up for preaching
-
this Sunday, so that's exciting. We had you on last week in
-
reflecting on your first message.
-
So thanks for jumping in. We got a couple more voices in
-
on only questions and we're going to play some games.
-
I've I've I've drummed up some some fun audio games for for
-
y'all to compete against each other on.
-
There will be a a Leftovers champion today.
-
I don't know. Kristen, Dom, did you OK?
-
I'm not crazy. Did you see how he put his
-
little fingers together? Like Mr. Burns, it was evil.
-
It's going to be fun. It's going to be fun.
-
And we have a new segment on the on the show today as well that
-
we'll get into and hopefully make it a recurring thing.
-
We'll see the the feedback that I get that we get, but like,
-
yeah, giving me one more chance to enlighten the world.
-
Thanks, guys. So let's get into it.
-
I think we have a good icebreaker question off the top.
-
Kristen, what are we? What are we starting with today?
-
Last track of my spot here. Easter's coming up, so thinking
-
about there's all the candies, everybody's got their favorites.
-
So how are we feeling about the Peeps, folks?
-
OK, so love them, hate them. So Easter, this is like overall,
-
we're going to go through a couple different Easter candies
-
because they're all like specific Easter candies.
-
Absolutely. And like you look forward to
-
them. It's like the only time of year
-
you can get them. Right, like you're not getting
-
peeps in Halloween baskets, right?
-
I mean, they come in different shapes now, but we're talking
-
like classic peeps. Bunnies.
-
All bend with the bunnies, but that's as far as we're going to
-
go. No other shapes, Bunnies and
-
little baby chicks. Which one and?
-
We're just going like, yay, nay, yeah.
-
What are we thinking we're. Talking the classic yellow
-
because I. Because they taste different.
-
The pink or the blue. You ever get purple ones?
-
Why are they just? Kidding and and I gave them to
-
it. Judged you.
-
So hard that. Sounds disgusting, I'm sorry.
-
No. I had doctor pepper peeps.
-
I found them on clearance if you can imagine.
-
So you know they're good. So they have to be good.
-
And I gave them the students and they were like begging for more
-
the next week. And I was like, we ran out of
-
the Doctor Pepper peeps. I don't know what to tell you.
-
So all that to say, are we talking the classic yellow
-
peeps? Let's let's do classic or or
-
even like pink. But we're not like Doctor
-
Pepper. Weird, yeah.
-
Pink. Pink.
-
Blue, yellow. Yeah, yeah.
-
Straight up. Yeah, straight, straight peeps.
-
OK, they're cute little eyeballs painted on.
-
There was a time I liked peeps as a kid.
-
I did thought they were thought they were delicious.
-
No longer and I can't I don't know if that's I feel like the
-
quality has gotten worse. I feel I, I tried to peep
-
recently feel like they're crusty, like it was it was hard.
-
It was not good. I, I like if it's like a soft
-
marshmallow in there with just like kind of a crispy sugary
-
crust on the outside. OK, that was fine.
-
But in my adult, I feel like the quality of peeps in my built
-
hood has just like fallen way off from what I remember 30
-
years ago. OK, OK, so today do I want to
-
peep? No, no thanks.
-
Little baby mat he would like he would he would down some peeps.
-
I would eat some peeps. Yeah, I'd go through a sleeve.
-
That's fine. A sleeve.
-
Chris, would you eat a case of Peeps then or like, how are we?
-
On a dare I would, but in general, I don't like them.
-
Really. No, not even as a kid.
-
Like it's just, it's not my thing.
-
Give me chocolate or give me death, you know, like I'm I'm, I
-
go that hard on that topic. No man, I don't.
-
It's a man of principle. Yeah, I don't get down with
-
peeps. Dom, are you a peep man?
-
No, they are disgusting. I'll start off.
-
I'll start off strong on this one.
-
I think I've always. Thought they are.
-
Just it feels so grainy when you're chewing on it, like just
-
it's pure sugar and nothing else.
-
I just never been a fan all. Right, Kristen, where do you
-
we're going to have? To listen, I've had all the
-
peeps in the different colors. I've had peeps on a stick,
-
highly recommend that. Like do you roast like campfire
-
roast? The Nope.
-
That could be good. That might be or put them in the
-
microwave. Those Doctor pepper ones, I bet
-
if you roast them over a fire that's that might be a game
-
changer. What would that do?
-
What would the fire like? Caramelize.
-
You get a little like like a Creme brulee crust on the
-
outside of the marshmallow dude. OK, I'm back in.
-
We got a fire pit out back. We can do this right now.
-
Elevated peeps, that's what we're going to have.
-
I would eat a classic peep. I actually like them.
-
Wow. They're not my super favorite
-
but I would definitely eat peeps.
-
OK. You just bite their little heads
-
off 1st and the rest is great. Is.
-
There a reason why you bite the heads?
-
Off it just seems like the right thing to do.
-
Kristen's killer instinct. Peep.
-
The little eyes looking at you get.
-
Out of your eyes. Yeah, so you just take care of
-
that right away, all right? OK.
-
OK, so Peeps were not a big one. How about the Cadbury cream
-
eggs? So Chris said you like
-
chocolate, so that gives you your chocolate.
-
OK, and there's, but there's variants of these too, right?
-
Because there's the caramel cream eggs now too.
-
It's the same chocolate shell, but they fill them with caramel.
-
Baloney. You say caramel and caramel.
-
Caramel. Caramel.
-
Caramel, caramel, caramel. Yeah, yeah.
-
No, you got. A classic classic.
-
Classic on that one. And if you go classic on that
-
one, that might be the greatest Easter candy ever created.
-
They they are a weakness of mine.
-
Chris and I are. Yes, Chris.
-
Yeah, I would eat, I would eat a Cadbury cream bag any day of the
-
year. Doesn't even have to be Easter.
-
It's that good. I don't need, I don't need to be
-
Easter for it. I would eat them anytime that is
-
that is an elite candy in general.
-
I cannot remember the last time I ate one.
-
Like don't buy. I never.
-
Buy that they start putting them at the checkouts now, like at
-
the dollar store and the quick start this time of year.
-
Like it's always a temptation. Every time I go past them I need
-
an immense amount of willpower to not buy them.
-
I am surprised. You're welcome.
-
Yeah, yeah, learning new things about you guys.
-
Dom Cadburys, that's one of my go TOS.
-
Yeah. All right.
-
Kristen, you've been got a. Trifecta here.
-
Oh man, are there other are there other chocolate?
-
OK, so, but there's oh, there's the mini Cadbury cream eggs,
-
though, too, right, That have like the shell, the candy shell
-
on them. No, because I'm I need the
-
filled ones. I need the hollow.
-
Are there other like chocolate Easter candy?
-
I know M&M's makes the the pastel colored ones.
-
And yeah, Reese's probably makes bunnies.
-
They do. They do shapes with everything.
-
Like I'm not counting those. They they make them Easter
-
thing, but those aren't like Easter chocolates.
-
Are there other Easter chocolate thing?
-
Like, what about a classic chocolate money?
-
Hollow or salad? Hollow.
-
Hollow, yes. But I'll tell you what, you,
-
you, you're kind of writing off Reese's, you know, Reese's, the
-
Peanut Buttercup Easter eggs, you're kind of writing them off.
-
But here's why they're better than regular Reese's.
-
OK, go ahead. I have thoughts.
-
Go ahead. Chocolate to peanut butter ratio
-
is better on those, so therefore they are better than the actual
-
Reese's. Agree.
-
I'm just like, if you put Reese's out there, that's not
-
like, oh, I have that around Easter.
-
And so yes, they make the eggs, they make the I think they did
-
like Santa's or Snowman this year because they also have a
-
better peanut butter to chocolate ratio on them.
-
You know, though they're they are doing better now.
-
They make the big cups now though too.
-
So there's like same amount of chocolate shell.
-
It's just bigger. So there's more peanut butter on
-
the inside. They also make them with Reese's
-
pieces in the peanut butter in the inside.
-
Those are ridiculous. It's like 4 bucks for a 2 pack
-
of those bad boys. But that'll set you back a
-
little bit there. You got like a bottle of lead in
-
there after you go to the. But.
-
I am dying, right? Now, I have not eaten yet today,
-
and I'm about to get hangry on all of you because this is Matt.
-
Oh my gosh, Matt, you've opened my eyes up to possibilities.
-
I did not. Know they're so good, they're so
-
good. But you know what?
-
Be be healthy, fit, fitness. Do that.
-
Fitness Reese's in my mouth. What are you talking about?
-
Absolutely. That's where you're, yeah.
-
Oh my 6. All right, last one, Jelly.
-
Sorry, you're a hard thumbs down on the cadre.
-
Yeah, I don't. Eat, no, don't eat them.
-
No, cannot remember the last time I ate one.
-
OK, I, I feel, I don't know, I'm kind of nervous about so the
-
last candy I've got Jelly beans, but there's I have opinions on
-
Jelly beans. There's there's the regular,
-
like classic Jelly beans, but then there's like the tasty like
-
Starburst Jelly beans. There's also, so there are
-
classics, but there's there's like fruity.
-
There's also spice flavored Jelly beans though, like
-
sometimes you can get the orange, the orange ones are
-
orange. But if you do like spice drops
-
or the spice Jelly beans, like the orange is like clove or, or
-
like the green ones are lime or the green ones are peppermint
-
like you can. So I don't like the fruity
-
regular Jelly beans at all now. You like bougie Jelly?
-
Beans. I need the.
-
I need the spice flavored ones. I don't want my white one, it
-
tastes like coconut. I want it to taste like
-
spearmint or peppermint. And then I want my green ones to
-
be the other mint. And then I want my red ones to
-
be cinnamon, not cherry. And I want my grape ones to be
-
licorice, not grape. OK, All of that that you listed
-
aside from like licorice, that sounds like I'm like chewing
-
toothpaste, like no, no. So that's, and I realized around
-
Easter, it's probably the fruity ones are probably the more
-
popular ones, but I'm taking those separate from like the
-
Starburst Jelly beans top tier. Like those are the those are the
-
Mac daddies of the Jelly. Beans, we agree on that.
-
I would if I had any choice. It's just starburst I don't
-
need. I don't even need the other
-
ones. It's Starburst Jelly beans all.
-
Right, Chris? It's not chocolate.
-
OK, OK, fair, fair. Chocolate covered Jelly beans
-
Starburst Jelly beans. I am a huge sucker for Jelly
-
beans. Oh, there we go.
-
OK, which? Ones, pretty much all of them
-
outside. I don't like any of the purple,
-
like whether it's grape or licorice, like just keep that
-
away from me. But any, I mean, the Starburst,
-
there's Jolly Rancher ones that I don't know if you guys have
-
had, but those Jolly Rancher Jelly, yes, yeah, they are
-
pretty good. And they're Skittles ones.
-
Like I love all of them. I'm not a huge sweets person
-
outside of chocolate, kind of like Chris, but this is one of
-
those things that I, I, I would eat these.
-
I'm I'm a sucker for sweets in general, so this conversation
-
was. Terrible, but.
-
Oh man, Jolly rancher Jelly beans.
-
Easter candy bag. I did not know they made them.
-
I I didn't know. I knew.
-
They got into the candy cane game, but I didn't know that
-
they were in Jelly beans because I always go with the Starbursts
-
because those are the best. I will buy them as much as I can
-
until they're gone. Yep.
-
OK, give me one second here. Oh boy.
-
How do you guys feel about like the Jelly Belly?
-
Like they go crazy on their flavors.
-
So I will say again, it's not chocolate, but if I'm going to
-
make an exception, they make a Jelly Bean that tastes like
-
movie theater popcorn and that is amazing.
-
Oh, OK, so this is where you lost me.
-
The I, I don't like the buttered popcorn Jelly Belly and I, I
-
don't Jelly Belly's weird for me 'cause I feel like they make the
-
variety packs a lot of the time where, yeah, they have the
-
flavors labeled on the outside, but like, there's 60 flavors in
-
this jar and it's like Bernie bots, every flavored beans and
-
Harry Potter. Like you could get, you could
-
get one that tastes like earwax and you could get one that
-
tastes like cherry pie. Like you just you don't know
-
what you're getting. And I don't love that.
-
I don't, I don't like surprises. Surprise, shocking.
-
I know. I don't like surprises so.
-
But you're a buttered popcorn Jelly Belly guy.
-
Oh. My gosh, they're just, they're
-
so good and it makes no sense. Just like how do they make Jelly
-
bellies that taste like you ate a skunk.
-
It makes no sense in my brain that they are able to do that,
-
but they can and it's. Wait, wait, wait, wait.
-
You you think movie theater popcorn tastes like you ate a
-
skunk? No, no, no, no, no.
-
I'm saying Jelly Belly. They do things inside tiny Jelly
-
beans with flavors that don't make sense.
-
Like I don't know how they do it.
-
So if you've ever played bean boozled, which I used to do with
-
my kids until I had one too many skunk Jelly beans and I'm like,
-
I quit forever. The the was coming through my
-
nostrils like I was breathing skunk.
-
I don't know how they did it. It's impressive.
-
OK, but the the popcorn ones, like you would voluntarily eat
-
them? Like not part of the game?
-
100% absolutely. But it's like a mind thing
-
because in your mouth it's a Jelly Bean and it's chewy.
-
But then it's like, it's like Willy Wonka.
-
You're like, oh, like it tastes like popcorn, but it's not
-
popcorn. Would you?
-
Bring buttered popcorn Jelly beans to the movie theater to
-
eat either instead of or with popcorn.
-
I think you got, I think you got to go hard and you do you double
-
down. You do them both.
-
You would double this, the Jelly beans and the I.
-
Mean I'm just weird enough to try it.
-
I would like to see this. I would like to do it I.
-
Would like to do it and he's super hungry, right?
-
Now, so he's probably. Going to do it right after this.
-
Oh my goodness. Fill your belly with popcorn and
-
Jelly Bean popcorn. I'm going.
-
To eat my weight in popcorn and Jelly beans one of these days
-
and it's going to be fantastic. Yikes, Yikes.
-
You heard it here. You got a lot of people that are
-
going to bring you the task on that.
-
Let's go to a movie, friends. Are there any other Easter
-
candies that it's just, it's this time that was the list that
-
we came up with, right? Those three things, Chocolate,
-
chocolate bunnies. What are we missing?
-
The peeps and the peeps, Yeah, and the Jelly beans if you.
-
Like kids pretty standard. Yeah.
-
OK, that's what we get. Yeah.
-
And like I said, I don't know, there's the Easter themed
-
whatever is the M&M's make their pastel covered shells.
-
They don't taste any different. There's there's M&M's.
-
Yeah. All right.
-
Well, so in general though, do any of OK you with children, did
-
you do Easter baskets? OK, so you still do Easter
-
baskets? Well, we're all in it for the
-
candy, so yes. Do you get an Easter basket?
-
No, but I but I treat myself OK. Treat yourself.
-
Yeah, Do it, Kristen. Treat yourself.
-
Uh huh. I I would.
-
You know what? I would be in favor of having to
-
hunt down an Easter basket. That would be just fine with me.
-
I would do that. And we have done that with our
-
kids, even when they're older. We just made the hiding places
-
really ridiculous. Yeah.
-
Yeah, and that can get intense. Cool.
-
All right, that was fun. Easter, Easter candy coming up.
-
Get your yard signs or Easter yard signs at church on Sunday
-
or Wednesday. Put them out loud and proud.
-
Bring your one more to Easter April 5th.
-
OK, where are we at? What's next, Kristen?
-
Oh gosh, are we playing a game? Is it game time?
-
I'm kind. Of.
-
Oh, it is game time all right. Matt's got ideas, yeah.
-
OK, this is going to be fun. We are playing a game that we're
-
going to call Friendly Feud. We totally came up with it.
-
It hasn't been done before. It has been done before, but we
-
just can't call it what it is. So we've surveyed 100 people
-
with our vast resources. And so we got a pretty good,
-
pretty good spread, pretty good survey field.
-
And there's going to be 7 rounds, 7 questions each of you.
-
I'm not sure how we're going to do this.
-
Somebody, we're going to just have to like raise hands or
-
something. I don't know.
-
I'm going to have to see in my see in my eye.
-
You can, you can slap something or, or raise your hand as either
-
before I finish answering the prompt.
-
You can slap at any time. But when you slap, I will stop
-
reading and you and you have to and you're on the clock.
-
So if you want to try to time it to the end of the sentence,
-
that's fine. But if I only get halfway
-
through the sentence, you have to answer and you got like 5
-
count to answer. So anyway, it works like Family
-
Feud, we're calling it friendly feud.
-
And you get 3 points for the number one answer.
-
You get 2 points for the number 2 answer, and you get one point
-
for any other answer on the board. 7 rounds, I'll keep
-
score. OK, going to be fun.
-
Here we go. First survey Name something a
-
little kid might want to have at their birthday party.
-
Kristen. Cake.
-
Cake is the #2 answer. Beat that Chris, you slap
-
second. Slapped words presents,
-
presents. Presents is.
-
It's on the board. It's the number 8 answer.
-
Somehow it's the last answer, but you get a point.
-
I'll I'll overlook words. Words was not on the board.
-
That was the first word out of your mouth, but we'll let it
-
side Dom 5. Count what you got.
-
I'm a weird one. I would go balloons because I
-
was obsessed with them. Balloons is the #4 answers so
-
that's worth a point. The top 3 answers were clown #1.
-
No, no are. You guys like scary clown
-
people. Are you afraid of clowns?
-
No. No, but I wouldn't.
-
Invite 1 to a party. What?
-
No. Why?
-
I don't know, that's what the survey says.
-
Clown was #1, Cake was #2 and Pony was #3 so you guys, you
-
guys got the others. Also on the board is bouncy
-
castle, ice cream and friends. OK, besides the bouncy cans
-
house was this list from 1956? Who wants ponies and clowns at
-
their party? I had a pony at my party once.
-
My kids, I mean, my three youngest girls, actually 4,
-
Clara would love a pony at her at her party.
-
And the girls would probably think the clown is a good idea.
-
And then afterwards would be like, we don't need to do that
-
again. But they'd like the concept of a
-
clown, I'm sure. All right.
-
After one round, Kristen has two points.
-
Chris and Dom each with one round #2 Name some things that a
-
doctor or dentist office would have in the waiting room to make
-
the experience more fun. Chris.
-
Magazines. That is the #2 answer.
-
Christen or Dom anyone? No one slapped Dom's in.
-
OK. They always have like a section
-
with kids toys to keep your kids entertained.
-
Toys is the #3 answer that's worth a point, Kristen.
-
Name something Doctor Odensis would have in their waiting room
-
to make the experience more fun. They all have TV's now.
-
That is the number one answer. 3 points for.
-
Kristen See, I thought about saying that, but what about what
-
they're showing on that TV is remotely fun?
-
It's always like just miscellaneous random.
-
Courtroom. TV.
-
Yeah, yeah. So I thought about that answer,
-
but I'm like, that's extremely boring to me.
-
I don't want to watch that in the waiting room.
-
Old episodes of Murder She Wrote like What Are We?
-
Doing right? Now so good, So good.
-
OK, Angela Lansbury, you take your points and go somewhere
-
else. Wow.
-
Yeah, I said it. After two rounds, Kristen has
-
five points, Chris has three, Dom has two.
-
Next survey name something you might try to grab onto when
-
falling Chris. Somebody's hand.
-
Somebody's hand, another person is the number one answer on the
-
board. We're going to give it to you,
-
another person. This question is funny because
-
it it premises that you fall all the time, but so like that's
-
just more. I'm not, I don't remember the
-
last time I like. Yeah.
-
So anyway, name something you might try to grab onto if you
-
were falling. Kristen A chair.
-
Chair is the #4 answer on the board.
-
Tom #2 answer still out there? Counter.
-
Counter. I will give you table.
-
That's number six answer on the board #2 answer was a railing #3
-
answer was wall. I think railing probably if you
-
were falling down the stairs like.
-
Real quick, how did you start that question again?
-
Name something you might try to grab.
-
On OK now stop because I almost buzzed in when you said name
-
something you might try to. Grab onto.
-
And and I just, I almost threw my hand up and I was like, don't
-
do that. What would your answer have been
-
if it was just grab onto? Nope, never mind friends.
-
That's where the thought process stops.
-
Perfect. OK, after three rounds, Kristen
-
and Chris are both tied with six, Dom close behind with
-
three. It's getting intense in here.
-
All right, survey number four, name something a dog does while
-
waiting for their person to come home.
-
Chris poop that is not on the board, Pee, pee and poop is not
-
I I think that's a very valid answer, especially in the puppy
-
stage that we're in. But no Kristen.
-
They sleep. That is the number one answer.
-
Ass pooping. Waiting for you to come home.
-
This is when all three of you have dogs.
-
So this is this is fun Dom. My dog's just bark and wine.
-
Bark is the #2 answer worth 2 points.
-
He's getting back in the game here.
-
Name something a dog does while waiting for their person to come
-
home. The number 3 answer was sit by
-
the door #4 is look out the window. 5 was chew stuff and 6
-
was Waggot's tail. Somehow no poop poop poop.
-
Does your dog listen to the podcast?
-
Would she be embarrassed? Shame, I think your dog's
-
pooping in the house too much. Oh my goodness.
-
All right, server #5 name something you might wish you had
-
in the summertime, Tom. So you're good.
-
First pool is the number one answer.
-
He's making the comeback, Chris. Sunscreen.
-
Sunscreen is not on the board. I'm going to, you know what?
-
OK, suntan is number 4. I'm going to give you.
-
I'm going to give you suntan at #4 You get a point on the board.
-
Kristen #2 answer is still out there and two others also
-
available. Name something you might wish
-
you had in the summertime. I'm going to go with sunglasses.
-
Not on the board, I'm sorry. And when we get #5 it's going to
-
be maybe a weirdly phrased question, but number 2 was air
-
conditioning #3 was ice cream. And then number 5 was snow,
-
which I feel like should be sunglasses.
-
So. But the people have spoken.
-
That's what the survey says. In our research, sunglasses
-
didn't didn't make it. So sorry.
-
Sorry about that. Wow, wow.
-
All right, survey number six. Kristen is holding on to a slim
-
lead with 9 points, Dom has 8, and Chris has seven.
-
It's still anybody's game. Tiny.
-
Fist, don't you shake your tiny fist with me?
-
Name something that might have a blinking light.
-
Kristen A. Car.
-
That is the number one answer. Nailed it.
-
Dom. That was my answer.
-
I don't even know where to go from here.
-
That was that was all I had going in my head 4. 321.
-
A bicycle. That is not on the board.
-
Not on the board. Valid at night though.
-
They definitely say they do. Yeah, Chris, name something that
-
might have a blinking light. Fire alarm.
-
Fire alarm is not on the board. Gosh, Kristen's building her
-
lead. The number 2 answer was traffic
-
light, 3 was police car for ambulance, 5 telephone and 6
-
computer. People are screaming through
-
their cars or wherever they're listening this right now and
-
they're like, you guys just don't get it.
-
You don't, you're not you're not in touch with people and how
-
they're surveying. So we could we could be better.
-
It's OK. All right.
-
Final survey. Kristen has a commanding lead,
-
but the final rounds were double 64 and two points are available.
-
Kristen has 12, Dom has 8, Chris has seven.
-
So you got you got a pretty good lead here, but you get the
-
number 2 answer. You're locking it up.
-
If you lost your BBQ tongs, name something else you might use to
-
flip what you're cooking on the grill.
-
Chris Fork. Fork is the number one answer.
-
Worth 6 points. He's up by 1.
-
Kristen, you have to get something on the board to take
-
the lead back. I'll read it one more time.
-
If you lost your BBQ tongs, name something else you might use to
-
flip what you're cooking on the grill.
-
Dom I'm. Going to go grab some spatulas.
-
Spatula is the #2 answer worth 4 points.
-
Dom is now tied with Kristen. This is for all the marbles. 3
-
more answers available on the board.
-
Kristen. Can I flip it with a knife?
-
Knife is not on the board. Chris takes it home. 13 to 12 to
-
12. The remaining answers were hands
-
or fingers, a shovel and sticks. For real.
-
A knife makes way more sense, but the people have spoken.
-
I did not deserve to win that. There's no way.
-
And I am not going to somebody's house if they're flipping stuff
-
with their hands. See, that was going to be my
-
first answer. Hands No.
-
Call, call the food department there.
-
The quality control happening at that cookout.
-
Oh, my God. All right, that was fun.
-
Friendly feud. Chris comes out on top with the
-
first game of the day. What are we jumping into next,
-
Chris? Are we back into questions?
-
We are. We are.
-
When you say the Lord's Prayer, what are you thinking about?
-
So what does the prayer mean to you?
-
We got serious pastors in here. Yeah.
-
So we kind of we kind of touched on this a little bit last, well,
-
at least we alluded that we would be talking about this last
-
week. The Lord's Prayer for me is the
-
baseline of where to start when, when someone says, I feel like I
-
don't have the words to pray, like that's how Jesus taught his
-
disciples pray, right? Lord's Prayer.
-
And so those words in and of itself, like verbatim, good
-
enough, like they're not even good enough, probably like the
-
way you should. Those are probably the words you
-
should start with. But there's also, there's also a
-
model within that, right? We've maybe taught with the
-
acronym acts before There's adoration.
-
Our father who art in heaven, hallowed holy be your name.
-
That's that's adoration. See is is confession.
-
Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who who trespass
-
against us. Thanksgiving give us this day
-
Our Daily Bread like we're we're relying on things from God and
-
and acknowledging him in gratitude.
-
And the final part of Acts is is supplication bringing bringing
-
needs for yourself concerns for others.
-
Those sort of those are all kind of packaged in lead us not into
-
temptation, but deliver us from evil for that as the Kingdom and
-
the power and the glory like those.
-
Yeah, those things. So that Acts acronym is often
-
what I think about in just like the model of the Lord's Prayer.
-
Yes, those words are specific and those words are powerful,
-
but there's also the the things, the types of things that Jesus
-
is praying about in that prayer. That's what I think about.
-
Yeah, I think pretty similar answer.
-
But to me like it feels like home for lack of a better like
-
phrasing, like saying that it can it can feel repetitive or
-
you can kind of fall into like mouthing the words just because
-
you know it. But it when truly sitting in
-
that prayer, when truly sitting in those words, like it does
-
feel like home base. Like it is that defining prayer.
-
Like when you don't know what to pray, that is that should be
-
your go to. That is the that is the ultimate
-
prayer that we're we're shown how to pray, but the line of,
-
you know, hallowed be thy name that like it's always just a
-
reminder that God is set apart in sacred and we get to pray to
-
a father who loves us unconditionally so much that he
-
he is set apart. He doesn't hold grudges.
-
He he doesn't remember all your past mistakes.
-
When you ask for forgiveness, you are truly forgiven.
-
And that's like, yeah, that's the comfort in that prayer for
-
me. I I have found myself more
-
recently I found myself praying this over and over and over
-
again as like I lay in bed at night before I fall asleep.
-
I'm very much aware the Lord knows everything about me,
-
things I don't even know about myself.
-
And so I have found this prayer extremely comforting simply
-
because I get to recite the words that Jesus has helped me,
-
has taught me. And so I mean, there's so much
-
comfort in that. And because as we were even
-
talking like last week on the podcast, like these, these
-
prayers, these needs, these longings that are, that are too
-
deep for words or groanings, like I think the Lord's Prayer
-
gives us words for all of those things.
-
Because if you actually stop and deeply consider like line by
-
line, what we're actually praying for in the Lord's
-
Prayer, it is all covered. And I do like to point this out
-
to people. Notice that the vast majority of
-
the prayer has nothing to do with what we think we need or
-
what we want. What is that like 1/5 or 1/6 of
-
the entire prayer? Therefore, if I'm doing the math
-
right in my own prayer life, if I'm modeling Jesus and I believe
-
that God knows what I need even before I need it, most of my
-
prayer time is going to be in thankfulness and gratitude and
-
just telling God who He is. If you read the Old Testament,
-
you'll notice that often times the prophets are just literally
-
telling God who He is. And why do we do that?
-
Because it changes the position of our hearts so that we put
-
ourselves in the right place to be able to receive both with
-
grace, the suffering that happens in this world, but also
-
to receive the, the, the benefits and the blessings that
-
God gives us every single moment of our lives.
-
So again, I'm just, and I don't know why it has happened
-
recently, but the Lord's Prayer is connected with me very deeply
-
recently. And I just find myself always
-
praying in at night over and over again.
-
And I'll just over and over and I don't know how many times I do
-
it, but it's just it's very comforting to me recently.
-
That's awesome. Yeah, well said.
-
I think that's it. It's all a lot of the things
-
it's Yeah, it's all right there as as a model, as a focus.
-
I love that you brought up the the parts of the prayer and how
-
much it's focused on God, not us.
-
We so often go in prayer in in our our need and our things.
-
And I and I think even even the opening of prayer is is
-
approaching God, right. Our Father who art in heaven,
-
holy is your name, your Kingdom come, your will be done on
-
earth. It's it's acknowledgement of his
-
glory. It's stating humility and
-
submission to your your will be done.
-
Like that's how even even when we're asking for things for for
-
ourselves or or for other people like that, should we should
-
enter into that with I'm good with how this is going to play
-
out in your sovereignty. Like, like I'm gonna I'm gonna
-
be able to trust in that. But I'm asking here.
-
I am. So yeah, that's so good.
-
Well, and you know, one of the interesting things about this
-
topic in general is the fact that why, why would Jesus teach
-
this at all? Why would he teach it at all?
-
Well, the, the context of that is if you had a rabbi, so you
-
had somebody who you are apprenticing under or learning
-
from, all of them had prayers that they taught their
-
disciples. And so when the disciples come
-
along and they say Lord Jesus teach us how to pray, they're
-
literally just asking for the thing that other rabbis are
-
doing with their disciples. But Jesus delivers on a level
-
that I am quite sure no other rabbi or, or teacher or, you
-
know, Father of the faith ever gave them.
-
And I'm, I can only assume I would need to do a little bit
-
more research, but I can only only assume that adoration, even
-
if it's not the Lord's Prayer, adoration for who God is, that
-
had to have come first. Because if you understand the
-
10, the 10 commandments, you will have no other gods before
-
me. Therefore, I have to start with
-
adoration. Yeah, that's good.
-
I think we got it. We are going to move into game
-
#2 Hooray. I don't.
-
I really look forward to this. I think it's I think it's going
-
to be great. Pitch you guys against each
-
other. It's fun.
-
See, I gave the squinty eyes at Kristen, like trying to
-
intimidate her, and she just smiled.
-
It's. The tiny fist.
-
It's not intimidated. She's got a tiny fist.
-
It's fine. All right.
-
Our next game is going to be higher or lower.
-
We are going to bring up a sort of lifestyle topic, things that
-
people engage with or don't, and it's all of them are going to be
-
what percentage of American adults and then fill in the
-
blank. We're going to take turns and
-
and go around here. It's going to be someone's turn.
-
So Chris, I'm going to ask you the first question and then
-
you're going to kind of set the line.
-
What percentage of American adults blank?
-
You're going to pick a number. If you are within, if you get
-
exactly right, 00 to 100, you get 3 points.
-
If you're within the 10%, like five, 5% on either side, you get
-
2 points. And then Kristen and Dom are
-
going to weigh in and they're going to guess either higher or
-
lower than the line that you set.
-
And if they're correct, they get one point.
-
And we'll just kind of just kind of rotate around and there's,
-
it's probably going to be some discussion in between because
-
these are highly controversial topics.
-
So we'll, we'll add our, we'll add our input as well.
-
So, Chris, you're up first. The first question is what
-
percentage of American adults make their bed every day?
-
Well. First, do you make your bed
-
every day? The vast, vast majority.
-
Of days. Yes.
-
And The thing is like, I do that as a way to honestly, I'm not
-
trying to act like husband of the year here, honestly do that
-
to honor my wife. She's never asked me to do it,
-
but most days I am out of bed after her.
-
And so I just, you know, well, that's that's telling too, by
-
the way. Yep, Yep, that's my life
-
friends. But you know, like I just, it
-
takes me about 5 seconds to like, and I don't make it like
-
tuck. I don't, I hate tucking.
-
Oh, you can't touch it. Oh gross, I know I I can't have
-
my feet tucked in. That's for next.
-
That's for next time. Percentage of households that
-
tuck the sheets. Yeah, I can't, but, but I'll
-
lay, I'll lay the blanket across the top really nice and I'll
-
smooth it out a little bit. And, you know, and, and the vast
-
majority of the days I do that unless I wake up late, which
-
does happen and then you know. Sometimes you're in a rush and I
-
guess, OK, OK. So.
-
I, I don't like our, my wife is a lot better at it than I am,
-
but in general, in general, we don't.
-
Kristins shaking her head too. No, no, no, nobody sees it.
-
I'm. Just gonna get back in.
-
It's fine. I don't know.
-
Yeah. Dom any strict discipline in
-
life there no. Never even think about it, not
-
even a thought that crosses my mind.
-
My thing is like, and this is going to sound a little extreme
-
but I don't care. You walk by the bedroom after
-
you get up in the morning and you know, it looks like a crime
-
scene because the blankets are everywhere and stuff and you're
-
like, this looks terrible. Like let's just fix this real
-
quick. It takes 5 seconds.
-
Just do it. Make your bed.
-
I just, I don't walk by. It mine's in a corner of my hat.
-
Like I don't walk by my bedroom unless I'm going in like into my
-
bedroom and during the day I'm not going back.
-
I get up, get out, and I'm not back in there till I'm thinking
-
about going to sleep. So yeah, it's kind of the same
-
thing as Kristen. Like good gravy, Gonna undo it
-
right away. You don't.
-
Get me wrong, I like a made bed. Like it looks good.
-
I like crawling into the made bed.
-
Just don't take the time to do it.
-
Okay. That's fair.
-
So what percent of American adults, what line do you want to
-
set here? Well, now The thing is I was
-
confident and then I'm one out of four in this room.
-
I'm far less confident about my percentage guest now.
-
So that has also. Isn't that a perception?
-
If we think we do something, we think like the majority of
-
people. Do I'm adulting kind of
-
sometimes. You know what, you guys have
-
changed my perception. So I'm going to go lower than I
-
thought. I'm going to say 40%. 40% Wow,
-
OK, I like that line. I think that's a good number.
-
Kristen and Dom, we'll just do a we'll do a countdown from 5 and
-
just give me a thumbs up because I don't want you to play off of
-
each other. So like you just thumbs up,
-
thumbs down when? I am.
-
Why do it? Whether you you think it's
-
higher or lower than 40%, three, 21 both went lower, the answer
-
is 27%. So the room is accurate.
-
One one out of four was survey says 27%.
-
That sounds incredibly like when we actually think about it, that
-
number feels bad. Most adults are gremlins.
-
So if you don't make your bed, you are in the majority of 73%
-
of adults that don't make their beds.
-
So good for you though, Chris, Good for you.
-
I have I have less hope for humanity now than I did before
-
this segment. We're not even done yet.
-
This next one isn't going to help, I don't think.
-
What percentage of American adults don't fully stop at stop
-
signs? The the rolling stop, as it
-
were. Kristen, this is for you.
-
Honestly. So honestly, we've talked about
-
actually I've talked about stop signs before as like a useless
-
thing, right? Yeah.
-
So I. You're not.
-
Stopped. I don't, I don't like and I
-
don't, I don't want to think I'm just like a reckless crazy
-
driver out here, but like I slow down.
-
I'm not just like blazing through stop signs, but full
-
stop. No, I'll get down to like one or
-
two MPH and then I'm on my way. If there's cars there, I stop.
-
But like if there's if there's no cars or kids at an
-
uncontrolled and there's just going to.
-
Run, full stop. Does not happen without cars or
-
kids. Your pastor's a Sinner.
-
No. OK, so you're the same.
-
Yeah, no, it's slightly tap on pedal if there's nobody else
-
around. OK, dumb.
-
Typically, I do come to a full stop.
-
Wow, I don't. Know like that was just
-
ingrained in me so much that I still do it out of habit.
-
So much integrity. Yeah.
-
Stand up guy, you can totally be lying right now, but I believe
-
you, Kristen. I'm a rule follower.
-
Yeah, that's all that. It could be in the middle of a
-
cornfield and I would still stop.
-
Wow. OK, So what number?
-
5050 in the room? What number do you want to set?
-
I think I'm seeing you have less faith in humanity, I think.
-
I think I do, yeah. Because there's the California
-
roll. You know, it's like everything's
-
kind of a yield is what you're describing.
-
It's like we live in the Midwest where you're like, I don't know,
-
do you have to? I'll go with 45.
-
Don't fully stop. Yes, OK.
-
No switch that, sorry 65 don't fully stop. 65 don't fully stop.
-
OK, so 2, she's taking roughly 2 thirds, 65%.
-
I also like that. I think that's a pretty good
-
guess. All right, Chris and Dom, 321
-
thumbs up or thumbs down. Here we go, 32101 up, one down.
-
Chris is higher, Dom is lower. The actual percentage, 70% of
-
American adults don't fully stop.
-
So Kristen, you get 2 points for being within 5% and Dom you got
-
none. Sorry Chris, you get one point
-
for guessing within the margin. Sorry I didn't go over points in
-
the first round. Kristen got 2, Dom got one and
-
one, and Chris. Chris, you got you got nothing.
-
Oh, no, you guys correctly this time, right?
-
Yes. OK, so all right.
-
Kristen, after two rounds has three Dom and Chris each with
-
one. Next question, back to health
-
and fitness. So you can walk off your peeps.
-
Chris, what percentage of American adults get 10,000 steps
-
per day? I do.
-
I like my my average is like 11/5 some somewhere around there
-
almost 12,000. I do have kids.
-
I go for walks. Do you talk with your hands a
-
lot? Not, not this hand.
-
OK, just the other hand. The other hand, OK.
-
I'm like 7500. Wow.
-
On average, yeah, not a lot. I'm real bad.
-
I mean. No, I don't.
-
Move between sitting, yes. Or, or I should with pictures
-
and people like or like I did. I did get up one time because my
-
watch told me to and I was like, and then I moved her out a
-
little bit and then I sat back down.
-
It is, yeah. I just don't move a lot.
-
It's OK. Dom no, no.
-
OK, all right, so we got all three of y'all are under hoof.
-
So Dom, what percentage of American adults get 10,000 steps
-
per day? What percentage you want to put
-
on? It I honestly think it's really
-
low. Really low.
-
I don't know why, I just feel like it's very low.
-
I'm going to go like, I'm going to go 30%.
-
Wow, wow. OK, 1/3 of people, Chris and
-
Kristen higher or lower 321 they both went.
-
Lower than 30%. They I do less faith.
-
I think it's bad. You're right, it's 21%.
-
Wow, one in five getting 10,000 steps a day?
-
That's crazy. Well, I think it's too like it's
-
feast or famine on some of the stuff.
-
There's some people who are so active.
-
So my sister-in-law, she, you know, she runs in front of House
-
of Hall of Fame. I think she's probably pretty
-
normally 15 to 20,000 a day. Wow.
-
But so and I will say, so while it's 21% for 10,000 in, in the
-
7500 range that you're talking about, that jumps up to like 55%
-
of people in that range. So there is that extra kind of
-
quarter, which 10,000 steps is a pretty baseline barometer for
-
just like average fitness and activity.
-
But even in the range that you're in, Chris, you're still
-
in like the top half of active people.
-
Kristen, we're not going to ask your number, all right?
-
Did you, did you scoot over to this office, by the way, for the
-
podcast or did you walk? Listen, listen, I usually scoot.
-
So I got a couple more steps this time because I walked.
-
I did push in the chair this time.
-
Congratulations. Thank you, I'm really proud of
-
myself. All right, Chris, it's
-
appropriate that it's your turn for this question.
-
What percentage of American adults drink coffee every day?
-
It should be 100%. It should.
-
Wow. It should be because that is
-
God's golden liquid gift to the world.
-
I love coffee. We like coffee in this office.
-
I I drink coffee just about every day.
-
We usually have a pot going. If, if.
-
I mean, I'll make a pot even if you guys aren't here, but I
-
don't know if you guys do when I'm gone.
-
But yeah. OK, Dom.
-
You're missing out bud. And Dom, you're not.
-
I do not drink coffee. Never Coffee.
-
Nope never never. A combination of the taste but
-
also like I don't have a high caffeine intake to begin with so
-
if I drink coffee I just get super jittery because I don't
-
eat early in the morning. So then the only thing in my
-
system is caffeine and I'm just wired and I can't do it.
-
Do it before you preach. Next time, let's find out what
-
happens. Let's just find.
-
Out. Oh no, that's a good idea.
-
Speed up your words per minute a little bit.
-
No, your pacing was great. Don't.
-
Don't change the thing. Fastest service ever.
-
All right, Chris, what percentage of American adults
-
drink coffee every day? I'm going 67%.
-
Wow. For the kids out there, for the
-
kids, All right, Kristen and Dom, there's a really good line,
-
I think. And we're.
-
Yeah, higher or lower, 67%, three, 21 ones were split,
-
Kristen lower, Dom higher. You each get a point because
-
Chris got the number exactly correct.
-
Thank you to every teenager in my life for giving me the
-
wherewithal to say 6-7. No way.
-
Let's go and that you got it that's.
-
Awesome. He did.
-
Yeah, that's awesome. That line.
-
So that brings you into a tie with Kristen.
-
After 4 rounds, both have five points, Dom trailing with two.
-
But there's three rounds left. We got time to catch up.
-
Kristen, what percentage of American adults have never flown
-
on a plane? So 18 and up.
-
What percentage of American adults have never flown on a
-
plane? Never flown.
-
Has everybody everybody flown? Yes, yeah.
-
I have Yep. Yeah, I do know.
-
Yeah, there's until I've, I've known some adults even in this
-
church that like while I've known them here, just have never
-
been on an airplane. So, like it happens.
-
There are there are people, but in my perception, not a lot.
-
I can't imagine that it's a lot of people.
-
Yeah. Because at some point it just
-
comes up, even if you're not just you have to.
-
It's almost like you'd have to avoid it at some point.
-
Yeah, with 22. Percent, 22%, Kristen Dom higher
-
or lower in 321? Both higher.
-
It is lower. It's 13% and Kristen's also not
-
in the margins and nobody gets any points this round.
-
That's really low. It is really low 13 percent,
-
1:00 and 8:00 roughly Yeah, even a little less than that.
-
But it's just that normal. It is that normal.
-
It is normalized normalized thing fine on the plane.
-
So next round Dom you're up for. Oh, this is a fun one.
-
This is back to the the making your bed sort of thing.
-
What percentage of American adults hang their toilet paper
-
under under and and if you don't know like so that's that's it's
-
coming down the the back of the roll instead of the front of the
-
roll. Now I've never I'm not I'm we're
-
we're an over always been an over the prac.
-
Do you know why you would hang it the other way?
-
I heard if it's if you have like little kids or cats or dogs.
-
It's so that they can't. It's a lot harder to like
-
unravel the roll from that way. However, I've just I've never
-
done that and I have dealt with an unraveled favor all more than
-
more than once. But like, I don't know, it just
-
that seems wild to me. I've I've never been in a house
-
where that's like regularly. I don't think I've ever even
-
been at over at anyone's house ever in my life where it's
-
around the other way. I don't know if I even know
-
anyone. You know what?
-
You know what it is, it's the beard.
-
So coming off the front versus the mullet coming out the back,
-
you want the beard, not the mullet.
-
It's the mullet of toilet paper that's.
-
That's right, it is the mullet. Of nobody does that but weird
-
hockey Canadians. My mother-in-law.
-
Does. Yeah, my mother, my
-
mother-in-law does only 'cause I know, like if you go to her
-
house, right, it's like that. But if she can, yes.
-
Oh, never thought about that. That's why.
-
But if she comes to our house, she will do it that way.
-
Oh. If she has to.
-
Replace. Yep, it will.
-
You'll be. Like it'll flip and I'm like and
-
I shut her and then I flip it around.
-
Sweet, sweet lady. Love her all.
-
Right, Dom, you get to set the line.
-
I would go if I I would be really low.
-
Like like I said, I've never really I'm surprised that you
-
have someone like that regular in your life even that that does
-
it that way. But like, it happens in our
-
house sometimes just because my kids don't know any better,
-
like, and then I fix it and turn around right away.
-
And I I realize I need to correct their ways in my
-
upbringing of them. But what do you think, Dom?
-
What percent of American adults hang the toilet paper under?
-
I want to go really, really low, but I don't trust people, so I'm
-
still going to go see I say that, but I think I'm going to
-
go like 18%. OK, 18%, Chris and Kristen
-
higher or lower in 321, both lower than 18.
-
Yeah, it's actually 30%. Really.
-
Yeah, no. Do they all like live in the
-
same state? They might just the entirety of
-
New York City. Yes.
-
What? Is happening.
-
Wet Rogue. So that's no, that's no points.
-
Again, you guys guessed wrong and Dom was not within the
-
margin. So we're going into the final
-
round. It's anybody's game.
-
Chris, Kristen, Dom, we're going to, we're going to come back to
-
Dom. It's going to be his turn
-
because he is. It's unfair.
-
It's seventh round. We're going to we're just going
-
to go the one that's trailing has the greatest chance to make
-
up the points. So Don, we're coming back to
-
you. What percentage of American
-
adults own cars? This might seem like a strange
-
question, but we're in middle Iowa don't don't like people in
-
Los Angeles and New York plenty of it.
-
They don't have cars like they they'd use Uber or bus system or
-
like whatever else. Don't need to have cars.
-
So and those are large populations of people in the
-
country, right. So it sounds a little crazy for
-
us because how do you I mean, most people have cars, but I
-
think it's AI think it's a funny thing.
-
So Dom, you have two points. You got to get it right on the
-
nose to to be in the game. Kristen and Chris, you're both
-
tied at 5:00. So we could end up with a
-
tiebreaker here and I'm going to have to come up with something
-
for that. But we'll see how it plays out.
-
Dom What percentage of American adults own cars?
-
So are we going just individual adults or like household like
-
what is that percentage based count?
-
It's those are the same like if a if a husband and wife if they
-
own them individually or own it together like they both.
-
Yeah, OK. It's all like a household would
-
be both adults in it. I think it's gonna be still
-
relatively high. Yeah, even with, even with
-
bigger cities. Like, I mean, I'm gonna go like
-
80. I'm gonna go with like 86 or 80.
-
Yeah, 86 percent, 80. 6%, that's not bad.
-
I I I would expect it to be pretty high.
-
I think you similar. You got to have a car kind of
-
yeah. And not in the city, but like
-
you're right there's. Kind of a change.
-
There's nothing overwhelming but you, you, you can.
-
We can. We can, I think.
-
I'm going to change it to like 91.
-
Oh my goodness, it's going even higher.
-
OK, higher maybe I'm giving you guys free points.
-
All right. Just just by presented, like how
-
do you not take the math? You're at 91% here, but you guys
-
can do what you want. Higher or lower.
-
Ready. 321 lower. That is correct.
-
It is. It's 74%, which also still
-
sounds like a reasonable percentage to me.
-
But 74% of American adults own cars.
-
Yeah. Kristen and Chris, you tied at
-
six. I didn't have a tiebreaker
-
ready. She shook her little fist at me.
-
Before that question, that was a credible threat.
-
I feel yeah, I feel like because I threatened him, he should get
-
that one are. You feeling?
-
Bad. Are you just?
-
Confessing right now I do. I'm so sorry.
-
I shake my fist a lot. I.
-
Shake my fist a lot, especially when she's trying to intimidate.
-
Yeah, all right. We might come back to a
-
tiebreaker a little later in the episode to to give that higher
-
lower away. But yeah, so anyway, you guys
-
are great. Thank you for for humoring me
-
second game down. All right, we're going to try a
-
new segment here and we have some we have some theme music
-
for this one. So we're going to get into it.
-
This stemmed out of the stemmed out of the making the bed.
-
Kristen asked, do you fold bath towels?
-
And then there's this advented into into this idea for the
-
segment. So we're going to we're going to
-
debut this for the first time. This is adulting with pastor
-
Matt. It's called adult day.
-
I'm. Adult.
-
All right, so yeah, this came out of Kristen asking how I
-
would fold bath towels. And that brought me to the
-
conclusion I don't, I don't have multiple bath towels.
-
Like I don't I don't fold bath towels because I don't have
-
extra bath towels like they come off the hooks, they get washed,
-
they go back on the hooks, not folding bath towels.
-
So we also have on the ERC pic shelf JP Pakluta.
-
Welcome to adulting, navigating faith, friendship, finances and
-
the future. If you want to check that out
-
for your your four FS growth here at ERC.
-
But so I'm just going to rant on adulting in minimalism a little
-
bit from my towels and you guys can tell me how how crazy I am
-
about this. But my thoughts are I don't need
-
a whole lot of extra space with the bath towels that I'm not
-
using like that. And, and maybe I'm a weirdo and
-
an adult who like starts and finishes their laundry on the
-
same day. I, I could see how that's a
-
crazy world to live in for some people, but I do that.
-
So if I'm washing the towels like they're gonna, they're
-
gonna go in the washer. I'm, I'm also like if I start a
-
load of laundry, though, it doesn't sit in the washer for
-
very long. Like I, I, I go get it and dry
-
it. There's not, there's not like
-
wet clothes sitting in my washer ever.
-
That's got to get changed over. That's got to get done.
-
So my towels happen quickly. I just don't, I don't need to
-
have extras. And it's the same with bed
-
sheets. And this is where you guys
-
thought I was getting a little crazy.
-
Yes. Don't have extra sets of bed
-
sheets either. Take them off, wash them, put
-
them back on. I'm not, I'm not taking like if
-
I had extra bed sheets, what do? What do I need those for?
-
Am I, am I not? Am I taking a week to wash the
-
bed sheets that I'm taking off the bed?
-
Like no, I'm just just getting it done.
-
And who doesn't love fresh sheets?
-
Like I'm just, I'm just doing it right away.
-
You might be the most real adult I've ever met.
-
And I can only say that because I've only ever like existed in
-
houses where like, yeah, I threw the laundry in and then like 5
-
or 6 hours later, I remember I put that in or this is even
-
better. This is even better.
-
Put it in the washer and you're like, I'm not doing that right
-
now. So you just lift the lid of the
-
washer so it doesn't get smelly because if it.
-
Stays in there. So you just lift the lid.
-
You're like, you know what? I'll come back to this in an
-
hour or two and then eventually throw it in the dryer.
-
Now when it comes out of the dryer, who knows how long until
-
it gets folded and put in a drawer.
-
I said I can't deal with wrinkly clothes either.
-
Like it's got AI, just got to fold them quick.
-
That's why this is this segment is perfect for you to coach me
-
how to be an adult because. We could not have been college
-
roommates. That wouldn't have lasted.
-
I don't know if Chris is ready to be an adult.
-
Wow. I've.
-
Known you too long? So how crazy am I?
-
Thoughts on I just I don't we have 9 beds in our house.
-
I'm definitely not having extra sheets for all the beds.
-
I could maybe be reasoned into like an extra king, an extra
-
queen, an extra twin just for like happenstance things.
-
But also that doesn't I don't that doesn't happen often enough
-
where I've like needed an extra set of sheets.
-
I've never really been in a panic of like, Oh my goodness,
-
where's the spare sheets? I am concerned about the amount
-
of towels to people in your house though, because you've got
-
a lot of girls. So like I'm just imagining teen
-
girls. Like do.
-
You really think that those towels are going back to the
-
hook like 13 year old version of some of your girls?
-
Do you really think that they're going to go hang that back up?
-
Oh they already don't hang it back up.
-
I hang it back up but what it was.
-
So I want more towels laying on the floor.
-
No, you get 1. I don't need all the extras
-
laying around too. What happens?
-
One towel? What?
-
Happens when you go take a shower and there's no towel.
-
Then they yell at me and get dad go bring me my towel cuz I'm
-
already in the bath and I didn't think about this cuz I'm 6 and I
-
left my towel on the floor from last night.
-
What does that mean for me when I have to yell at Lissa and I
-
have to do I have to start yelling?
-
Hey, I'm I'm 45. Like please I'm 45.
-
Bring me a. Towel like.
-
What? No, just my towel.
-
Because you only have one. I only.
-
Have one now my towel. I wouldn't have brought you the
-
towel. I need my.
-
Towel. No.
-
You're going to walk out there wet and cold.
-
Get that. Get that towel.
-
Go to his maid bed. Yep.
-
Fine, I'm just drying off on my major.
-
Blanket. Yeah, there you go.
-
See, you're, you're honestly convincing me.
-
Not probably for the right reasons though, because I, I'm
-
very much one of those people. Like I'm doing laundry all in
-
one day. Like it's getting done.
-
I have to set reminders otherwise I will just forget.
-
But it is getting done in one sitting.
-
But the last load is just going to sit in the dryer.
-
It is just going to stay there. Folding's like the final phase.
-
Yeah, like I don't quite get to that point, but I don't have to
-
if I have less things. Yeah, like if if I have less of
-
it, well, OK, maybe now I can actually fold it because I only
-
have one towel. I mean, it's not as hard as the
-
10 that I have in the washer right now.
-
It's true, it's true. And that's, and that's so for
-
me, like a load of towels coming out of the dryer is nothing.
-
There's no folding. Like I'm, I'm skipping the
-
folding stuff. I'm just hanging them straight
-
up. Doesn't take any time at all.
-
I don't feel like my family needs an intervention.
-
Like I think that they'd be scared if you came over and
-
you're like listen y'all get one towel.
-
And they that's they can have multiple towels but like, aren't
-
those being hung up too? No, no they're not.
-
What? He's got random towels that's
-
like laying. Everything, yeah, little
-
gremlins. They just it's on the floor.
-
Like we have legit our upstairs bathroom has way more towel like
-
bars. There's at least three bars, 4
-
hangers, and they'll still end up on the floor.
-
Oh my goodness, can you give me nightmares tonight?
-
I'm just so you're thinking about all the towels on the
-
floor in the Hendo house. Not going to be able to sleep.
-
Nope. Nope.
-
See, now I am thinking into the future, though, because right
-
now it doesn't matter because I live by myself, so I can leave
-
things in the dryer and it's fine.
-
Nobody's going to complain, nobody's going to.
-
Nobody even knows. Except now I just outed myself
-
that I do these things, but whatever.
-
But in the future, yeah, I mean, it'd be nice to have less things
-
so that doesn't happen. I don't want 50 towels on the
-
floor of the bathroom. I mean, but maybe not because
-
I've been married for 25 years. We're still leaving this towel
-
on the floor. He's lived with the person for
-
that long. That didn't change anything
-
about his habits. You know what?
-
Yep Matt, you have taught me yet another way.
-
I am not quite an adult yet. Thank you for for just knocking
-
me down a beg. I just needed it.
-
In this in this summer, he's going to leave us all alone.
-
Yeah, you guys are going to have to give up the adult thing real
-
quick. I think we have to.
-
So I'm thinking after all of this, like the three of us are
-
going to read that book together so we can be adults or we need
-
some MAT training. We have to, we have to read that
-
before he leaves for the summer though 'cause if we're reading
-
it wow, whilst he's gone, we'll only figure it out and then
-
he'll be right back to help us adults again.
-
But we, we. Need.
-
You won't have applied any of the principles, that's right.
-
Matt's an enabler. I'm going to go ahead and just
-
deflect. We'll make it his fault.
-
Good job. Good job, Kristen.
-
Thanks. I hadn't thought of that.
-
I you know what? Yeah.
-
All right, this has been adulting with Pastor Matt.
-
Next time on this segment, we'll talk about blaming other people
-
for your problem. Thanks for that lead in Kristen.
-
All right, we got a spicy question for question 3 here.
-
It is recently we did. Was it in the fall?
-
A year ago, we did Revelation. Yeah, we were in Revelation.
-
Fantastic. Lots of life groups doing that
-
one together and some jokes came out of it as we learned about
-
the White Horse. So our question.
-
The Four Horsemen of the White Horse.
-
Specifically the White Horse. Specifically we're wondering is
-
Taylor Swift, the White Horse, very specific, Very specific.
-
And that did come up in multiple life groups, I know.
-
What? So we want to hear from our
-
pastors all. Right, so, so the white just
-
little biblical context. Let's let's set the table a
-
little bit. So Revelation 6 one through 8
-
that the first of the four horsemen that this white
-
horsemen a symbol of conquest or or false hope, false peace, even
-
even like Antichrist, right. Is is so wow.
-
Yeah. So this got serious real quick.
-
I think in a nutshell, you guys can jump in.
-
No, it is like my default position.
-
Is she potentially a type of the White Horse?
-
Like I mean allusion to the is is it, is it potential that some
-
of the things she sings about or or some of the example that she
-
gives is is a deceptive false peace or or false hope in
-
certain things? Yeah, I think that's true.
-
But I also think that's like, it's a lot of modern secular
-
society, which, I mean, she perpetuates and and falls into
-
that category too. So in that way, yeah, I think
-
she's maybe like a type a sign of some of those things.
-
Is, is she the source of all that?
-
I would fall short of saying yes to that.
-
So, thoughts? I mean, I think if you said yes,
-
you'd be giving her too much credit.
-
But OK, I said it earlier, but like, I think if you look into
-
any earthly things, any worldly things like that, you are going
-
to find glimmers and glimpses of these things.
-
Like if you're truly looking hard enough, there's so many
-
people that I've heard just in the last, I don't know, 5-6
-
years be called the White Horse or the Antichrist.
-
Like there's, it's thrown around almost like candy.
-
But I think it's because we see all the, the earthly and worldly
-
things within them. And they're prominent figures.
-
They're more well known than, you know, you or I, But I think
-
they definitely, yeah, like you said, they have little, little
-
things that kind of allude to it or show glimpses of that.
-
But I think you'd be giving her too much credit to say yes.
-
And I, and I think you're right, as much of A following and
-
influence she has within, within the music world and even just
-
just popularity world, like when, when we're coming to like
-
Antichrist level things, I, I think that influence and
-
indoctrination and power is, is going to be far more reaching
-
than than even she is right now. She's she's an interesting piece
-
in a larger cultural cog that's moving in a particular
-
direction. But at the same time, again, go
-
back a ways. When Elvis started dancing on
-
TV, people thought, oh, my goodness, look at the way he's
-
dancing. Yeah.
-
He's sexualizing our our entire generation of people and and all
-
these kinds of things. And The Beatles come along and,
-
you know, and they're, oh, no, these teenagers, what are they
-
going to do, these Beatles, you know, all this kind of stuff.
-
And so again, she's not more or less than either of them, you
-
know, or any popular example, whether that be a movie star or
-
a music artist or whatever. So like, she could not be the
-
White Horse. Worst case scenario, she's a My
-
Little Pony because she is not on that level.
-
Yep, My Little Pony. There you are.
-
There you are. Theology man strikes again.
-
Rats All right so yeah, I think I mean, I don't think there's
-
anything really like incredibly conclusive about about those
-
things. But you're you're right in the
-
just the direction that the world is heading sort of it's
-
just she's just possibly another piece of false.
-
I mean, I say false influence in the way that you shouldn't be
-
putting your hope in Taylor Swift.
-
Like if you hear your hope belongs in Jesus and not Taylor
-
Swift, so the. Interesting thing about even our
-
modern culture is that we think we're so evolved and we think
-
we're so advanced and all these kinds of things.
-
You could look at any of our leanings as a culture, whether
-
you think that, Oh no, our, our culture is no longer repressed
-
sexually and we're just, come on, the Greeks went way farther
-
than we have yet to go and we think we're this new hip thing
-
and we're not. We are repeating what history
-
has already already done, and we just don't study our history
-
well enough to know that Yep, it's all been done before,
-
nothing new under the sun. None of these things are
-
surprising to God, and if you study your history, it won't be
-
surprising to you either. Yeah, all right.
-
Final game and then and then we're out of here.
-
You guys are going to endure me torturing you for one more fun
-
game. It'll be great.
-
This game is called Liar Liar. It's going to be great.
-
So the way this game works, it's basically 2 truths and a lie.
-
There's going to be 3 rounds and it's essentially the three of
-
you versus me. I've found some crazy zany
-
scenarios that don't even sound like the real going to give
-
three of them to you at a time. Two of them are true, 1 is a
-
lie. You need to find the lie to
-
advance to the next round. And it's really the three of you
-
against me. So as long as one of if, if one
-
of you gets all three of them right, I lose.
-
So you can play the game if you want.
-
If you want a first round, the three of you each pick a
-
different answer and that guarantees that one of you
-
survive. You can, but then that person
-
needs to get the next two correct.
-
Either way, you're working as a team.
-
You can you can Give your opinion, you can give your
-
insight, whatever else, but three rounds, you got to pick
-
the lie out of the three. OK, here we go.
-
First round. A street sweeper in Detroit in
-
the 1930s became known as the baby magnet because on two
-
different occasions he got hit by babies falling out of fourth
-
story windows while working below.
-
Oh my gosh #2 There is a beach on the coast of North Carolina
-
that is known as the Tamagotchi shores.
-
In 1997, a shipping container fell spilling 100,000 digital
-
Tamagotchi pets. Even today, 15 to 20 toys wash
-
ashore every month #3 no babies were killed in the scenario
-
number one, by the way, they just fell.
-
They, they survived. But like, he was got hit by
-
babies in two different times. So that was weird.
-
So babies falling out of windows, Tamagotchi shores #3 A
-
butt was a medieval, medieval unit of measurement for wine.
-
Technically a buttload of wine is 126 gallons.
-
No? Come on.
-
OK, so you guys can discuss amongst yourself or decide how
-
you're going to own here. You have to.
-
You have to find the untruth. You have to find the lie.
-
Out of these three, two of these ridiculous things are true.
-
I'm buying the butt load all day, guys.
-
I think that's real. It's got to be real.
-
It's a butt load. I.
-
Don't know the Tamagotchis. I feel like I feel like we would
-
have heard about that. Maybe.
-
Because then I want to go get one like if it's still
-
happening. Yeah, I'm thinking #2's probably
-
a little lie. I'm going with that too.
-
Yeah, are. We all going to answer the same,
-
but yeah, we're risking. Are you?
-
Or you do the butt. Well, no, because I think the
-
butt. Oh, he knows the butt's a real
-
yeah. I think that's true.
-
OK, OK, I can't say for sure, but I think it is.
-
We could all be out on the first round if we all choose the same
-
answer. Or yeah, what is he?
-
Going to do now stay in then your odds increase exponentially
-
of winning the game. Do we just go hard at this?
-
I trust. Oh my goodness.
-
OK. Shortest.
-
Break this game. That was the why.
-
You all got it right. Tamagotchi shorts don't exist.
-
Otherwise, we're just going to cut and drive there.
-
I want. One that means a butt load is a
-
real thing though. 126 gallons. OK.
-
Actual Chris is going to use that a lot now.
-
Well, and now that I know exactly precisely how many
-
gallons it is, I just need to find ways to like talk about
-
things that it's that much that's.
-
A. Lot that's so many gallons.
-
All right, so you all survived. I'm a little shocked, but well
-
played. Next round #1 Chess Boxing is a
-
sport where opponents alternate rounds of boxing and speed chess
-
until their opponent is either checkmated or knocked out.
-
Number two, the artificial chemical sucralose, was
-
discovered when a scientist accidentally heard the phrase
-
test this chemical as taste this chemical #3 Red carpets were
-
originally used to celebrate Vikings coming home from raiding
-
excursions and represented the blood of their foes.
-
Those are all. Really.
-
OK, so I can tell you right now number one is true chess box.
-
It is. I'm watching chess.
-
Box I have watched it is a thing.
-
He thought about competing. It's insane.
-
I'm weirdly curious about it. Wow.
-
OK, so you have knowledge on it, You're OK.
-
So you're 100% sure? Number one is.
-
True. So we have a 5050.
-
OK. So the artificial chemical
-
sucralose, discovered when a scientist accidentally heard the
-
phrase test this chemical as taste.
-
This chemical, or red carpets were originally used to
-
celebrate Vikings coming home from rating excursions and
-
represented the blood of their foes.
-
I'm saying. Red carpet makes sense.
-
I don't feel like a scientist. I'm saying #2 is a lie.
-
Yeah, well, or I feel sorry for that guy if it's not like, why
-
is he a chemist? You can't be just eating stuff.
-
I. Mean as a scientist, you think
-
you're just like, you're like what?
-
Like. Those are the ones that don't
-
make. It.
-
That's just, that's just the yeah, no, you're not making it
-
if you can't listen. I think it's a lie.
-
See, I was leaning that way too, but I do we do we all three
-
answer the exact same again. OK, I'll take it.
-
I'll take the red carpet. OK, just in case do.
-
You think that's a lie? Keeping.
-
A lie, that's the that's the lie.
-
Do you think red carpet's a lie? I could I could take that one
-
just in case it is a lie because I don't know.
-
Kristen's hedge in the back here.
-
I'll take it. And then you take the number 2.
-
OK. Dom and Chris going with
-
sucralose. Good pivot, Kristen.
-
That was the lie. Red carpets were not used for
-
Vikings. They just the the blood of the
-
foes was just yeah, they. Just put real blood.
-
Right. Yeah, no, no red carpets needed,
-
Chris, so. You're our only.
-
You are the only hope final round.
-
Chris and Dom can still give you give you some insight.
-
So all right, this one is all about actual people.
-
Gary Cremen, the founderofmatch.com, went through
-
a tough breakup when his girlfriend left him for a guy
-
she met on match.com. Chris Hanson, the host of the
-
show To Catch a Predator, was fired after being caught
-
cheating on his wife by a hidden camera.
-
In 2001, John Spinello, the maker of the board game
-
Operation, died on the operating table in the middle of a heart
-
procedure. Stop it these.
-
Are. These are good.
-
So match.com hidden camera catch a predator or creator of
-
operation dying on the operating table.
-
Which one is the lie? These are really difficult.
-
Yes, I have no idea. Dom, you got any insight?
-
I don't on this one. I thought I did, but I don't
-
like those are. They're all plausible.
-
I want to say I heard something about #1 like I, I want to say I
-
have a recollection of hearing that because it's just kind of
-
humorous that he created the thing that made his girlfriend
-
leave him and find someone else. But but also now I'm playing in
-
my head. All right.
-
Well, he's switching the numbers.
-
It would go to #1 being the lie if he was following some sort of
-
oh. Pattern.
-
Oh, so you're like, but you're playing this player.
-
You're like 5D. Chessing this thing OK?
-
And This is why he can do chess and box.
-
Way to go Dom. I believe in your toughness and
-
your intellectual. I will never be a chess boxer.
-
It's not going to happen. Would I fall to such a
-
predictable pattern though? Or would I think you wouldn't
-
think I would fall to such a predictable pattern.
-
So I did it. Wow, tangled web, we beef.
-
On the operation one just sounds sad and weird.
-
But it also sounds true. Yeah, like that seems.
-
Normal. I don't know, I'm coming on #2
-
Hold on though, how long has the game operation been around?
-
A really long time. I mean would he even be alive at
-
that point or would he have died before that because the game is
-
ancient. I mean, I played it in the 80s.
-
Well, he it's 2001 that he died. And the the date of The thing is
-
not like, it's not like a, the whole incident.
-
I'm, I'm not going to get you on like a technicality.
-
It's like that. It's not like he died in 2008,
-
not 2001. Like no.
-
Kristen, I feel like you're on your own.
-
The the middle 1 I feel like is weird like that he got caught on
-
camera. If you do a show, that's gotcha.
-
Camera based on camera. I feel like you'd be smart
-
enough to like avoid that. So an operation when I think
-
that could happen and then Dom's feeling already about the first
-
one I'm going to go to. Going back to #2.
-
Was it? It it is the operation one is
-
the lie that did not happen to the creator of operation.
-
But yeah, Tom, you're right about the match.com really
-
having to catch a predator somehow the guy did not have the
-
foresight to realize there might be cameras watching as everyone.
-
Yep, all. Right.
-
Well, I'm glad the operation guy did OK though.
-
It's the the odds are heavily stacked against you.
-
I'm surprised like for you to get to the last round still
-
alive with one of you is is pretty darn good.
-
So it was well done. All right, so we'll see if that
-
was entertaining to listen to or not.
-
We'll find out. You can let us know, or don't or
-
don't. Or don't just radio silence
-
coming back from this episode. Yeah, but thanks for hanging
-
with us, church family. Hopefully we had a little fun
-
with you all today. Have a blessed spring break this
-
week and we'll catch you on Sunday.
-
Dom. Preaching time #2 excited for it
-
man. Blessings you prepare and yeah,
-
have a blessed week, Church.
