  1. This is City Post Church, we're about three things, build

  2. equipped and send all under the lordship of Jesus Christ, a

  3. small Church Plant in Fort Worth Texas, who decided to do things

  4. a little differently. I would almost I had to Crystal,

  5. I love City Post because of the people.

  6. It's where I belong, we truly preach the word.

  7. I love City Post because of the community.

  8. We've been able to build to do ministry.

  9. Like Jesus perlite to push back Darkness.

  10. This is City, Post podcast. You're being first John chapter

    1 John 2 chapter mention

  11. 2. We're going to look at just four

  12. quick versus this morning. So I'm going to go ahead and

  13. read those and then we'll we'll dive in to the text.

  14. So, starting in verse 24. This is a continuation from last

  15. week. This is what the word of the

  16. Lord has to say. It says, as for you see that

  17. what you have heard from the beginning remains in you?

  18. If it does you will also remain in the son and in the father,

  19. and this is what he promised us eternal life, I am writing these

  20. things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray as

  21. for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you

  22. and you do not need. Anyone to teach you.

  23. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that

  24. anointing is real, not counterfeit.

  25. Just as it has taught you remain in Him.

  26. Father we thank you so much for this time of worship that we

  27. had. Thank you for this worship team.

  28. Father, truly a blessing to this church and Lord we thank you for

  29. your word and God, I pray that you help me to stay focused.

  30. Father, collect my thoughts and any of these ideas.

  31. Has are not from me, but from you.

  32. So Lord, we praise you for today, you know, probably seems,

  33. amen. So it being spring break, we

  34. decided to take Elena and livie to this magical place called

  35. epic Waters. Anybody who I'm talking about.

  36. Epic water, is not in Fort Worth, but it is an indoor water

  37. park in Grand Prairie and pretty much they opened at 8:30.

  38. And you can spend all day there if you want to, and it is just

  39. Madness. So, Me living in Atlanta and

  40. rage. We decided to get there early

  41. set up shop because if not, you won't get a table and then we

  42. release the hounds. So we put the floaties on and as

  43. they were going to the kitty area.

  44. I think like a kid, like took a dump in the pool so it was like

  45. whoa and then they're like stop everybody stop and then you see

  46. somebody come with a net so you know it went down so it's like

  47. Man. So as we're waiting for this

  48. pool area to open up, living in a layer is so excited just like

  49. running everywhere. They want to go swim and the

  50. whole time, I'm there, I am Rach.

  51. Kind of took Elena because the latest more laid-back, she's

  52. wants to go on the slides. So I had living with me and Livy

  53. was so pumped and she just kept going everywhere.

  54. She just wanted to see what this place was and the whole time.

  55. I'm chasing ladylike living way for Better Living.

  56. A close to that. Uh, let me wait for dinner, stay

  57. close the data, even like in the water.

  58. You know, we're likes playing and swimming and then she'll

  59. like go and Wade somewhere else only livie stay close to that.

  60. I please like please stay close and the thing is, you know,

  61. she's not a professional swimmer, so I don't know.

  62. Even though she has floaties, you don't know, but then there's

  63. so many people. You don't know about that, are

  64. there? I mean it was packed like the

  65. water got like smoggy, you know towards the end of the day or

  66. last time to go, you know, look like old-school Forest.

  67. Park Pool. So we're in high school, like,

  68. it's like oily at the top, like, wait a second, what's going on.

  69. But, but the whole time I'm there, and I'm like, Levi, stay

  70. close to Dad at least a close. It Dad livie stay close to the

  71. data. And and, you know, when John

  72. talks about the anointing, well, we're going to see today is that

  73. he's like, Ricky stay close to data.

  74. Ricky, stay. Close to data abide in me.

  75. Stay close to Dad, I don't run off.

  76. Don't know what's out there. I'm trying to pull you in and

  77. John is going to reiterate this over and over again is like if

  78. you have the anointing then you understand what the word of God

  79. is telling you. So therefore remain in me, abide

  80. in me and last week we talked about what the anointing is.

  81. I know that word was hijacked by Western Christianity.

  82. I'm sorry where people say, well I got the anointing so I'm going

  83. to tell you something that you don't know for yourself and it's

  84. like know, if your Believer in Christ.

  85. You have the Holy Spirit, you're able to know what his word says.

  86. And if you don't know what his word says, that means that you

  87. do not have the Holy Spirit. Therefore you're not a follower

  88. of Christ is black and white y'all.

  89. So we talked about that how the Holy Spirit kind of acts as a

  90. guardian. So when truth tries to come in

  91. your life it serves like that's not going to come in.

  92. That's not truth like a little bouncer but also shout out Zach

  93. you know something that it also protects us.

  94. Is, is that people that claim to know Christ and they claim it

  95. with their mouths? But their lives don't show it.

  96. So in some ways like yeah, like I'm a Believer but yet they live

  97. totally off the charts and you're like, wait a second, the

  98. Holy Spirit helps you to guide that.

  99. But also, it serves as what we like to call a BS alarm, you

  100. know, the biblically sound alarm, right?

  101. So as things are not biblically sound, your BS alarm goes off.

  102. Like, wait a second, that's not God's word and it just gets

  103. louder and louder. Louder, as people throw the BS

  104. at you, and that's not biblically sound.

  105. All right. So, So let's go ahead and, and

  106. jump into the text. And this is kind of where we're

  107. taking we're continuing here in verse 24.

  108. This is what John is telling us. He's like as for you see that

  109. what you have heard from the beginning remains in you?

  110. If it does, you also remain in the son and in the father.

  111. So, look at verse 24. Look at the first couple of

  112. words. What does it say?

  113. It says, as for you, Important. That's a direct correlation to a

  114. Believer. So, it's pretty much saying you

  115. like that's hard for you to remember.

  116. Just think a soldier boy you, I mean, you know what I mean?

  117. Like just you like, he's pointing at you, he's talking to

  118. the children, he's talking to the Believers in Christ.

  119. He's like as for you. So, this is way different than

  120. what we just read the last couple weeks where he's

  121. addressing the false teachers. And The false prophets.

  122. He's like I was talking to them but I'm talking to you right

  123. here to you claim to follow Christ.

  124. See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in

  125. you? What have you heard from the

  126. beginning? He's talking about the gospel

  127. message. He's talking about the message

  128. of Salvation like like it is like God is a holy and

  129. righteous. God, we have sinned, we deserve

  130. his wrath, we deserve separation.

  131. But Jesus, Even in our failure to I did the come and say I will

  132. take God's Wrath for you. So that way you don't have to

  133. work for it anymore. You just got to believe

  134. surrender your life to me. And you will be forgiven, that's

  135. the good news of the Gospel. That's incredible.

  136. And that's the message that is from the beginning.

  137. And what John is saying, is like that, message that you heard

  138. that word remains actually means abides if you look at other

  139. commentaries or other translations, but then abide

  140. actually means remains, so it's kind of the same way.

  141. Word here. But if that remains in, you AKA

  142. like, it doesn't go in one ear and out the other like it stays

  143. in your life, like there is an A Heart Change like God has given

  144. you. The anointing is giving you the

  145. Holy Spirit. You have accepted his word.

  146. So that means that you are changed.

  147. So if that remains in you, If it does, you also will remain in

  148. the son and in the father Christian truth.

  149. He's saying that Christian truth.

  150. It's fixed. It doesn't shift.

  151. It's not cultural. Like there's no conditions to

  152. the gospel. Like yeah, Ricky.

  153. But like I had a bad month, so I might not know if it remains in

  154. you. It's going to stick but look

  155. what it says if it does you also will remain.

  156. In the Sun. So we got to look at how John

  157. writes here because this is really interesting here.

  158. John the right translation and says if it does it is not you

  159. also well it's you must you must remain in the sun, you must

  160. remain in the Sun and I love this because the word must what

  161. we call in scripture. When you studied, this is an

  162. active voice. Voice what John is writing here

  163. is like this is an active statement AKA You must actively

  164. remain in the Sun. How do I do that through his

  165. word? So it doesn't mean like I'm I

  166. come to know the gospel. I give my life to Christ and

  167. then I don't have to do anything else.

  168. Now, I'm not saying you work for your salvation, you don't lose

  169. your salvation. But what John is saying is like,

  170. you must remain in the sun. If you're going to remain in the

  171. Sun, that means that you need his word.

  172. And if you have his word, that means that you must put some

  173. effort and work into having a relationship with Christ.

  174. It makes sense, nobody gets into a relationship and be like we're

  175. married. All right cool, see you later,

  176. whenever you don't talk, you don't hang out, you know like

  177. that makes no sense. So I made a commitment to rage

  178. and then I don't talk to her, I don't hang out with her.

  179. I don't we just do it. Own thing.

  180. You don't give me trouble, man. I'm like so like yeah you can't

  181. do that, it's not relationship. That's like high school dating,

  182. right? So so John he's pushing forward,

  183. an active voice. So Row, three quick things about

  184. God's word that I just want to throw out there about remaining

  185. in the son and in the father based on the anointing and

  186. having God's word in your life, it's not going to be on the

  187. screen by I wanted to mention these three quick things about

  188. God's word. Number one, you meditate on it,

  189. you know, a lot of us we kind of come on Sunday, we hear the

  190. sermon. We go back and we don't read our

  191. open our Bibles ever again until next Sunday.

  192. And that's not how this works. So when you read something, you

  193. hear something you you learn something you want to meditate

  194. on it, you know, I picture like a cow eating grass just just

  195. chewing on it. Then you regurgitates it, chews

  196. on it, some more swallows, it regurgitates.

  197. It keeps getting the nutrients out of that grass.

  198. We should do the same thing with God's word.

  199. So whenever you hear something, whenever you read something you

  200. meditate on it, you know, if you work in an office man, just type

  201. in Bible, Gateway and read some. You know, whenever you have time

  202. look, On your phones. I mean there's so many options

  203. for us. We're so spoiled, but yet, we

  204. don't take advantage. You want to meditate on God's

  205. word. Number two, you want to memorize

  206. God's word worked to memorize it, try to learn it.

  207. I mean, we learned song lyrics, we learn everything else.

  208. We couldn't memorize God's word, just keep hearing it.

  209. Put it on a cute card. Just start small, Jesus.

  210. Web, there. You got a verse.

  211. Congratulations, you know, John 10:35.

    John 10:35

  212. I mean, start small, just work to memorize God's word, meditate

  213. on it, memorize it and in number three, mention it mention it you

  214. know the more that you talk about something the more it

  215. sticks with you. So when you go home you take

  216. what you learn and you just start talking about it, you

  217. mention it, you pass it on, you pass it forward and it always

  218. comes back to you. And on Sundays we have like our

  219. family devotional time. And we always ask Olivia and

  220. Elena, what they learned and killed.

  221. Children's church and of course you know laying on might tell us

  222. live. You would be like I like shoes,

  223. I don't know like but we talked about it and there's a reason

  224. for it because we want it to stick.

  225. So those are just three quick easy things that we can do as

  226. Believers to help remain in the sun through his word meditate

  227. memorize and mention it. So let's keep moving.

  228. So we look at verse 25 and from verse 24, John gives us a

  229. promise like the reason why you want to buy, the reason why we

  230. remain in the son and in the Father, which sorry I have to go

  231. back. One second here, in verse 24, in

  232. the son and in the father, you can't have one without the

  233. other. You can't get Jesus wrong in

  234. God, right? If you get Jesus wrong, then you

  235. can't get God. They're linked together.

  236. We learned that in John, chapter 1, So, you got to get the sun

    John 1 chapter mention

  237. correct? Then look at verse 25, and this

  238. is what he promised us eternal life.

  239. So we know that those who are found in Christ.

  240. We get, thank you. We get eternal life.

  241. We get life with him. But what John is pointing out to

  242. his, like, you just don't get life.

  243. When you pass away and go to heaven, you get heaven in this

  244. life because God comes down in his spirit and he lives in us.

  245. It's heaven and on Earth. So your life is lived with

  246. Jesus. Day in and day out.

  247. It's an amazing thing, but we do get eternal life as Believers.

  248. But growth happens in his word and we talked about this a

  249. couple weeks ago. So you grow spiritually, the

  250. sanctification happens through the word of the Lord and your

  251. relationship with God is only going to be as strong as your

  252. relationship with his word. So if you want to grow in your

  253. faith, if you want to grow in Christ, man, you got to be in

  254. this thing. You got to dig in his word.

  255. You got to read the Bible. This is how he speaks to us.

  256. Now. A lot of people are like well

  257. Rica. If I go somewhere if I yell loud

  258. enough, if I just cry on the Lord, if that's emotionalism,

  259. I'm talking about real spiritual growth that goes with you

  260. through the years that indoors. And the music is great.

  261. But what happens when they don't play your jam that Sunday,

  262. You're not going to be able to feel it that makes no sense if

  263. the power where the shutdown in this place and Eric just sings

  264. acapella was that still means something.

  265. But if we have God's word, this is what sustains us.

  266. This is the meat, this is how you grow spiritually.

  267. As a Believer, this is where sanctification happens and you

  268. only go as further as your time in the word.

  269. So, verse 25, John gives us a promise of eternal life, but

  270. he's also throwing this out because even though eternity

  271. set, you still need to grow in the faith.

  272. And that is something that you need to do.

  273. Actively look at verse 26 and I'm just kind of running through

  274. this, but I just want to make sure we get through it all in

  275. time. Verse 26 says, I am writing

  276. these things to you about those who are trying to lead you

  277. astray? Why is John mentioning all this?

  278. It kind of sounds repetitive so that word Lead, You astray

  279. actually means deceiving Means that there is somebody who's

  280. trying to deceive you, he's trying to pull you away.

  281. He's trying to trick you. And remember, John is writing to

  282. the church because there are these gnostics who are spreading

  283. this false gospel and because they're spreading this false

  284. gospel. John is saying, hey, these guys

  285. out here are trying to pull you away from the real truth of God,

  286. they're throwing these ideas out there, they're doing everything

  287. they can to yank you. Away to lead you astray, but

  288. it's not only false teachers that lead us astray.

  289. I mean, we know that there's an enemy.

  290. So anything that pulls us away from God's calling on our life,

  291. which is to know him, and make him known.

  292. I know a lot of us kind of see like, mess.

  293. He's trying to destroy. He don't need to destroy you.

  294. All you have to do is plan a barbecue on a Sunday morning for

  295. some of us. That will pull us away.

  296. It's something as simple as making.

  297. You stay up just a little bit later on a Saturday night with

  298. friends. So that way you don't wake up.

  299. It's to lead you astray and we've got to guard against that

  300. you know. And I say one of my greatest

  301. joys of Sadie post. I love seeing when Joseph walks

  302. in with a monster in his hand. I tell them this all the times,

  303. like when I see guys with red bulls in there and I'm like,

  304. praise God. That means they could have

  305. stayed sleeping. But regardless of how many hours

  306. of sleep, somebody got, they decided to be here and that's a

  307. choice that they made because I ain't going to call him.

  308. I'm not your parent but they're here.

  309. And I'm like yes man, that's awesome.

  310. Praise God. Like man that is a discipline.

  311. That is incredible. So what you do is that you are

  312. fighting the deceiver with Red Bull, I mean there's so many

  313. things that are trying to keep you in bed and Lead You astray

  314. and you're like, no man. I'm and it's Not about church,

  315. like don't hear me wrong. But there's some of us like, man

  316. we need. This is the only time we get

  317. God's word, but it's about the small things in life.

  318. It's about the things that lead us away from, from our Brothers

  319. and Sisters in Christ and things that lead us away from our faith

  320. ideologies and philosophies that kind of like pull us away from

  321. what God is calling us to. And we decide, you know what,

  322. we're going to follow this. Instead of God's word, you just

  323. got LED astray. And what to say in use, we

  324. talked about this, a couple weeks ago, the lust of the eyes,

  325. the lust of the Flesh and the pride of man.

  326. It's too easy. So what he's saying he's like

  327. listen you gotta remain in me, you got to remain in Christ and

  328. if the gospel remains in you then you will remain in the son

  329. and in the father he's given us eternal life but you still got

  330. to grow, remember? There's like that active voice,

  331. so that means you got to put in some work in this.

  332. And the reason I'm telling you this, because there's going to

  333. be so much out there, that's going to try to pull you away

  334. from this, it's happening. It happens to me all the time

  335. where I have to stop and have to pray.

  336. There's been situations where I was like in a place, I just

  337. left. I like, I don't know if I'm

  338. going to do this because I'm worried about my own self about

  339. being led astray. And then look at verse 27.

  340. So we know that there's an enemy, he's trying to pull us

  341. astray. We got to fight it.

  342. We lead you off then verse 27 as for you.

  343. There's that term. Again, remember that you write

  344. as for you The anointing, you receive from him, remains in you

  345. and you do not need anyone to teach you.

  346. All right, so there's a lot going on here.

  347. The anointing that you received that word received as in a past

  348. tense. So what he's talking about is

  349. what we see in First Peter were where when God presented the

  350. gospel to you, Open the Eyes of your heart to his, the beauty of

  351. the Gospel you received it, he gave you his spirit and that's

  352. how you live out the Christian life.

  353. Now you're able to understand things and he's like I'm praying

  354. that it remains in you. And you do not need anyone to

  355. teach you. Now, what is John saying here?

  356. I don't need like pastors and I don't need gifted people to

  357. teach me God's word. That's not what he's saying,

  358. what he's saying, he's remember the context here, he's talking

  359. about the gnostics, they were the guys going around saying I'm

  360. enlightened. You should listen to us.

  361. I even see that we're like there's other pastors.

  362. Like, you know what? I have to tell you this because

  363. you're not going to understand what this says, you're not

  364. trained like me. You have to do what I say and

  365. what he says, like if you're a follower of Christ, you have the

  366. anointing of Christ. You could read this for

  367. yourself. So you don't need these guys out

  368. here, claiming stuff to teach you, you could teach it

  369. yourself, you could read the Bible for yourself.

  370. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and that

  371. anointing is real. Not counterfeit.

  372. Just says it has taught you remain in him, you see?

  373. So he's talking about the he brings up the anointing twice

  374. here. One is in past tense where it

  375. says you receive and now he's like the anointing teaches you

  376. which is present tense, he's talking to so you got it in the

  377. past it's going to be with you in the present is going to teach

  378. you now and it's Going to continue to teach you, the

  379. anointing is also in the future as well.

  380. To listen to Holy Spirit, doesn't leave you.

  381. This is not like a Genie in a lamp.

  382. This stays with you, it stays with you, it walks with you, it

  383. helps you. But you got to be active in it,

  384. you got to be into his word. And then I love how John throws

  385. this a little jab in there. He's like no, this thing is

  386. real, it's not counterfeit. Y'all ever seen like some

  387. counterfeit Nikes? I have some of y'all like I got

  388. a it look like You know, the counterfeit stuff it looks like

  389. it, but when you check the label, it says, like Fruit of

  390. the Loom, but it is like Gucci and it's like a little bit

  391. crooked, right? I mean like, I mean, we go,

  392. that's what we'd look for on mission trips, right?

  393. It's like, got to get the good stuff.

  394. See it counterfeit means. It looks like it, but the maker

  395. is not the authentic creator of it.

  396. And what John is saying is like, listen guys are going around

  397. claiming that their anointed by the Holy Spirit saying things.

  398. But because of what they are saying and and showing their

  399. counterfeit, that means that whatever spirit is in them is

  400. not from the maker. So if it's not from God, it's

  401. got to be from somebody else. And I'll let you take a guess.

  402. So that spirit is not from Christ.

  403. And we talked about this, in the last passage, is that Spirit of

  404. the Antichrist, the one who opposes Christ.

  405. So the counterfeit Spirits, the ones that don't claim God's

  406. word. Those are not from the Lord,

  407. that's from Satan himself. That's the Antichrist, the the

  408. poser. And then I love how this passage

  409. ends, just as it has taught you remain in him.

  410. I love that. Remain in him.

  411. You see John ends this with a new imperative.

  412. He starts it with an imperative saying, hey, this is you must

  413. get the, you know, you must know.

  414. God, you must know his word and he's ending it with a new

  415. imperative, which is like a new command and that you command is

  416. Pain in him, remain in Christ abide in Christ, Walk With

  417. Jesus, talked with Jesus follow Jesus.

  418. Don't let the riches and the deceitfulness of this Whirlpool

  419. you away. You must remain in Christ.

  420. I love that word abide in the Old Testament means that's where

  421. you, like, pitch your tent and you're going to make that place

  422. your dwelling. So when it says that Christ

  423. abide in me, it's like God, make your dwelling in my life and

  424. John used that same word is used in this passage.

  425. He's like remain in him abide in him.

  426. That means you plant your life with Jesus.

  427. You pitch your tent. There you make your dwelling in

  428. Christ. Everything about your life is in

  429. Jesus, and that's what he's talking about.

  430. Now with the last just couple 10 minutes that we have, I started

  431. thinking about this statement, how John ends it, how do you

  432. abide in Christ? How do you abide in Christ?

  433. And what I would like to do is just kind of give just a couple

  434. of suggestions based on the text or some truths from the text and

  435. I started thinking about our culture, like our culture, Our

  436. Generation, how we live our lives.

  437. How do we Abide in Christ based on the passage that was giving

  438. to us. And I know some of you are like,

  439. Well, Ricky get this, you just read it, like, read your Bible.

  440. Pray as too easy. Let's peel the onion back a

  441. little bit like let's let's let's be able to implement this

  442. in our lives. And before I dive into it, there

  443. used to be a book that came out called Eat This.

  444. Not That you guys remember, that was in Barnes and Nobles.

  445. These huge books so it'd be like, you know, I want to eat a

  446. Burger, King Whopper but instead eat like in and out because it's

  447. healthier, you know, or you know, don't eat Pizza Hut but

  448. eat, you know, Little Caesars because it's less calories, I

  449. don't know, just make stuff up. Even in the Christian World,

  450. they would have these CCM magazines that would do that.

  451. Like if you like listening to Corn, listen to Jeff Moore in

  452. the distance, you know? Like it would be these like

  453. compare and contrast things. And that's kind of what I want

  454. to do today. Day is instead of options.

  455. We need obedience. So how do we invite in Christ

  456. instead of our instead of living in options?

  457. We need obedience. What are you talking about?

  458. Re-listen, we live in a culture, where options are key.

  459. We Love Options. Like the more schools that want

  460. me the the more food options that I have, the more friend

  461. options that I have some y'all like relationships, like the

  462. more like options. I got instead of me committing

  463. to one, I need options and we're living in this life where we

  464. love our options. Why?

  465. Because we tie options to Opportunities and then we tie

  466. opportunities to success And that carries on to our spiritual

  467. lives as well. So if I go through life,

  468. thinking I need options. Like it could be true.

  469. Like it's good to have options for education is good to have

  470. options for like eating out. It's good to have options.

  471. Like if you have like three or four jobs that want you to come

  472. work for them, that's not a bad thing.

  473. But what we see in verse 24 is that the only option is to

  474. remain in Christ. There is no other option except

  475. Jesus here. And a lot of us like we do that

  476. though. We're like, man in a church that

  477. gives me like all these things to do and it's like no like just

  478. find one that preaches. The gospel and going serve be

  479. faithful like our option is Jesus period. so in a world

  480. where we equate options to Opportunities actually when

  481. you're obedient the opportunities come to you, Like

  482. what we say that don't chase clout you, chase Kingdom because

  483. if you chase Kingdom clouds going to chase you.

  484. So whenever I surrendered my life to the Lord is a god, like,

  485. I, I want the gospel to remain in Me based on verse 24, and if

  486. I remain in the sun, I am actively creating my options to

  487. only be one option, which is Christ.

  488. So that means all my priorities are off the table.

  489. If Jesus is not a part of it, Even my work options.

  490. Like I remember like looking for jobs after my previous job at

  491. Blue zones. I'm like man, who's gonna want

  492. to hire a faith-based manager like iron were talking to Rachel

  493. about this? Like how am I gonna get my

  494. resume out there? Like, what am I going to do

  495. after this? But as long as I was able to

  496. serve the Lord, as long as I was able to help plan a church, I'll

  497. go work anywhere. and God provided You see?

  498. So whenever we are obedient to him.

  499. God is not just like man-made opportunities.

  500. It's like, God made opportunities, which make no

  501. sense. And all of a sudden you're gonna

  502. see start seeing Kingdom happen. And all I'm doing is being

  503. obedient to what God's called me too.

  504. And you're gonna watch the Lord work.

  505. And you know what? Success in God's kingdom faith?

  506. That's all they know about numbers.

  507. It's like, hey, you decided to take a step of Faith, you're

  508. successful, but God, only like eight people showed up.

  509. Congratulations, you do what I ask you to do your successful,

  510. doesn't matter what it looks like success comes when you take

  511. a step of faith, when you walk in faith, God deems, that

  512. successful, and because it's successful opportunities are

  513. going to follow your way because God's in it.

  514. Because he could only do the supernatural.

  515. So number one, obedience over options, we got it, we got to

  516. fix our perspective on that when it comes to the things of God.

  517. Number two, Jomo over fomo. Like what?

  518. Something I'll texting - Jomo mean, right?

  519. So we use that term a lot fomo fear of missing out.

  520. We have fomo We all we want to be a part of everything.

  521. We our culture has a fear of missing out on everything.

  522. We want to be a part of that party.

  523. Want to be part of the, we want to be a part of everything, but

  524. the problem is that sometimes our fomo comes at the expense of

  525. our obedience because we're so worried about missing out on the

  526. culture. And we need to shift our

  527. perspective because if I'm obedient to God, I don't get

  528. fomo, I get Jomo, which is joy of missing out, man.

  529. It like it's exciting because I said know, When couple of months

  530. ago, I would have said yes. And then that would have been a

  531. disaster and I would have like jacked up relationships and he

  532. see, I was like, the fear of missing out.

  533. I was like, oh, but I got to be there, but in your spirit, you

  534. know, it's not a good idea. So instead of saying I'm scared

  535. of missing out, I say no. And I'm like, thank you.

  536. Jesus, that I have the power to say, no, because I am no longer

  537. a slave to my sin. I'm able to walk free.

  538. And then people are going to be like, well we got to come, you

  539. got to come to this and then you're like, man.

  540. It's all good man. You guys have a great time, but

  541. I have so much joy in my life because of the obedience that I

  542. have that. I don't have a fear of missing

  543. out with the world stuff. I have a fear of missing out

  544. with the spiritual. It's like, man.

  545. Like man, I want to see what God is going to be a part of.

  546. I want to see what he's going to do.

  547. So listen, I'm going to what I'm going to say, like, don't get

  548. offended. But this goes to my kids, too.

  549. I'm going to train my kids to have Jomo and not fomo.

  550. So, leave your later like, how dad I gotta go?

  551. Because they're gonna do it. And I got else.

  552. Like listen, we're busy that weekend.

  553. It's okay. We're gonna have a better time

  554. over here. I promise.

  555. Because you want to build that joy in their lives.

  556. So don't worry about phone, while you get Jomo in your life

  557. you're going to see God move. Where does that come from in

  558. verse 26? He's telling you.

  559. He's like the reason I'm writing these things is because there's

  560. some stuff out there that's going to try to lead you astray.

  561. And if your fomo kicks in, you're going to get LED astray.

  562. But if your jumbo kicks in, you're not going to get LED

  563. astray because you're going to be, you're gonna have so much

  564. joy abiding in Christ, right? Where you are at That there's no

  565. worldly happiness, that could take your joy.

  566. And then the last thing, and we'll end with this, Is we have

  567. to? So go ahead.

  568. Number 3. We have to start thinking

  569. presents over productivity presence over productivity.

  570. Memory key. Where does that come from?

  571. Verse 27? What does verse 27 say?

  572. Remain in him. What John is pushing here.

  573. When you abide in Christ, you are in his presence.

  574. It's more important to be in his presence than anything else.

  575. You got going on in life. That is the number one priority

  576. for you is wherever I go God better.

  577. Be there in like like most says, in Exodus, if God's not there, I

  578. don't want to go. Because his presence is key and

  579. his presence comes through his word and his word is activated

  580. because we have the anointing the Holy Spirit when you connect

  581. anointing and God's word, you better watch out.

  582. His presence is key. But we are a culture that loves

  583. productivity because we think if we're productive, then we're

  584. able to show our value. The more I do, the more society

  585. looks at me, and says, hey this guy, we need to get him on

  586. board, that ain't it though. Because when we focus on God's

  587. presence and Kingdom opportunities coming in his

  588. presence, what it's going to do is going to activate your

  589. passion, it's going to activate our passions in life.

  590. So when I go to work and I focus on his presence in my office,

  591. I'm walking around a lot different than everybody else.

  592. I have this passion in my life to do this job that God has

  593. placed me in and it's gonna blow everybody away.

  594. And it's not because I have an incredible skill set is because

  595. God is blessing. My hands.

  596. He's blessing me because I have his presence in my life and

  597. there's nothing greater than the presence of God, but when you

  598. focus on productivity, you're going to focus on your

  599. accomplishments and your accomplishments are only going

  600. to take you so far in life. Because there's only things that

  601. God can do in the Supernatural that you can't do in the

  602. natural. So when you focus on his

  603. presence, it unlocks the Supernatural, and you become

  604. greater because your passion in life and even your

  605. accomplishments. So whenever like, you do this,

  606. some Great accomplishments, either at work or school or

  607. wherever you're at, it's going to be have a greater impact

  608. because God's presence is tied to it and not just your own

  609. abilities. Nice thinking about this like

  610. man, you know, I want my kids. To know that I was faithful.

  611. So if I were to pass away, if I were to like die tomorrow, I

  612. want my kids to know me. Like, man, my dad.

  613. He had Jomo. There was a Joy about him.

  614. Man, he was like a faithful man of God.

  615. That's what I want my kids to. They're not going to like man.

  616. Dad got us a bunch of cool stuff.

  617. That's for the uncles in that Willows.

  618. No. Say let them do it but as a

  619. father, I want my kids to know me as a faithful man of God.

  620. Somebody that that had Joy. Somebody that prioritize, the

  621. Lord Smite that led prayer. Dinner time somebody that

  622. protected us and provided for us and he was a pretty like, like

  623. he played with Us. That's what I want my kids to

  624. know me by So I want to just kind of ask you, where's your

  625. focus? Where's your focus and your

  626. focus? Only shifts when you decide to

  627. abide in Christ, plant your tent in his presence, say no to the

  628. things that pull you away from it.

  629. And focus on obedience. And when you start doing that,

  630. you're going to start seeing some crazy stuff in your life.

  631. You start seeing some shifting in our lives and in your life as

  632. well. That's my prayer for you today.

  633. So let's pray together. Father, we love you and we are

  634. so grateful for what you are doing here.

  635. Lord. So Lord I pray father for every

  636. single person in this room. Lord, I pray that you help us to

  637. to lean on your presence. Father, help us to see the world

  638. through Kingdom lens. Not just through this worldly

  639. lens. Father God help us to be

  640. obedient to you Lord. Help us to say no to the things

  641. that are going to pull us away and lead us astray and help us

  642. to focus on your presence, father, because we know that

  643. your presence is going to push our passions And our

  644. productivity is going to look a lot different because you're

  645. involved. So Jesus, we pray all these

  646. things in your name. Amen, this worship together.
