  10. This is City, Post podcast. First John, chapter 2 first

1 John 2 chapter mention 1 John 2 chapter mention

  11. John, chapter 2. So first of all good morning

  12. everyone, how's everybody doing? Pretty good.

  13. Pretty busy weekend, right? I know I had an eventful day

  14. yesterday, but it was all good. So before I dive in, I got to

  15. give a shout out to Elena and livie because they are in East

  16. Texas right now. I love you guys.

  17. I know they're watching. Do not fall asleep at pops

  18. Church. Okay so make sure you guys play

  19. I'm doing. Alright, so that's called being

  20. spiritually Petty. All right.

  21. So I drank way too much coffee this morning.

  22. Alright, so we're going to be in first John chapter 2 first John

1 John 2 chapter mention 1 John 2 chapter mention

  23. chapter 2 and I really believe that God has a word for us this

  24. morning as I was going through this text, as I was just kind of

  25. meditating on it and thinking about Lord like what do you try

  26. to tell us here and God just kind of brought something to

  27. Light that I'm going to do the best I can to explain it.

  28. So let's go ahead and read. We're going to be starting in

  29. verse 28 and we're going to look at verse 1.

  30. So just three quick versus today and this is what the Lord says

  31. it goes and now dear children continue in him so that when he

  32. appears when sorry, when he appears we may be confident and

  33. unashamed before him at his coming.

  34. So if you know that he is righteous, you know that

  35. everyone who does what is, right?

  36. Has been born of him see? See that see what great love the

  37. father has lavished on us. What?

  38. We should. Sorry that we should be called

  39. children of God, and that is what we are.

  40. The reason that the world does not know us, is that it did not

  41. know him. So, father, we pray that you

  42. speak to us through your word, this morning.

  43. Father, I pray for myself, Lord, that you helped me to focus and

  44. remember everything that that was studied here.

  45. And Lord, I pray that your word just penetrate our hearts and

  46. our minds father. We thank you so much because

  47. you're a good God and giving us just a beautiful day today and

  48. then we pray these things. Amen.

  49. All right, so we have to kind of break this down.

  50. That's what we're only doing three verses today and guys like

  51. Well Ricky says three verses I'm like just slow down you're going

  52. to see why I should go through verse 3 in chapter 3.

  53. But I really want a chance to just kind of walk through this.

  54. But before I dive in so many of you guys know that I came to

  55. Fort Worth Texas, going into my eighth grade year going into

  56. pretty much high school. So we got here and I ended up

  57. I'm going to Daggett, middle school.

  58. So my parents are Rosemont. And there were like now what

  59. they want to keep Ricky at Daggett, right?

  60. They won't be see your sutras in which one like we do.

  61. I kick her. Take your poison, right?

  62. That's always joke around about that.

  63. But so something I learned when I move the text as was that the

  64. music was a little bit different than in South Florida.

  65. So Daggett would have these after school dances in order to

  66. raise money. And in Florida, you know, you're

  67. used to a specific genre of music.

  68. So it's either like side Summit and get it ever get done at the

  69. time. Thank God, that didn't grow up

  70. in that thing kind of came later, but it was either that or

  71. like that, like Miami, like base.

  72. Like the, you know what I mean? So, so that's kind of what I

  73. grew up in, but then I come to Texas and it's a whole nother

  74. world. So my friends are like, you got

  75. to learn Cumbia. And I'm like, what's going on?

  76. V.I.C this lady's name on everybody's car named Selena.

  77. I was like, who's Selena and what happened to her?

  78. Like, I do. So I that's that shows you how

  79. removed I am from the culture. I mean, it was like moving to

  80. another planet when I came to Fort Worth.

  81. So we had a dance and they were teaching me and I'm like, I

  82. could do cumbias. Not hard.

  83. Like, anybody. With two left feet could do

  84. cumbias. Like, you've got to really try

  85. hard, not to be able to do this. Somebody's gonna Exposed over

  86. there, right? Like they like, it's got to be

  87. really difficult. So, so immediately, I knew and I

  88. remember all my friends are like, Ricky, you gotta know how

  89. to dance Cumbia because of not, you're not gonna be able to

  90. dance or any of the girls. And, of course, the adolescence

  91. is kicking in. I'm like, yeah, I gotta learn

  92. this stuff. And so I, so after a couple of

  93. dances, I got it down, I'm like, this is not hard.

  94. I mean like that, technically All this stuff comes out.

  95. If you don't know, just jog, it looks the same, right?

  96. So so I got it. So I'm like, I'm confident now.

  97. I'm like, okay, like we could do this and then the Valentine's

  98. Day, dance was coming in February.

  99. And my friends hype me up and they're like, Ricky, you should

  100. ask Rayna to go with you. Now, think about this is an

  101. eighth-grade dance is not that serious, but in my mind, I'm

  102. like, I'm going to do it because she's cute.

  103. My friends are like, hyping me up and I Know how to dance

  104. Cumbia now. So like I my confidence is

  105. through the roof. I'm like, I got this open out,

  106. like we're going to go ask Rayna.

  107. So I remember after class I go and I talk to Rayna and I was

  108. like, hey, Trey and I, she's like what's up fool?

  109. And then it was like hey would you like to go to the dance with

  110. me? And she looks at me she giggles

  111. she's like I said I'm not going to be here.

  112. I'm not gonna go and I was like oh that's rough.

  113. Okay. Fast-forward.

  114. Two weeks later, the dance is going on.

  115. Me and my friends show up and guess who Who is at the middle

  116. of the dance, we're having the time of her life Reina, right?

  117. So I walk in and I'm just like, let's take the knife out of my

  118. chest, like my spirit is crushed, you know?

  119. I was like, oh, but I had all like I learned Cumbia just for

  120. you so we could dance together and then, you know, she'd even

  121. acknowledge it. I was like, what's up recently?

  122. I had a drink and she just kept going in the circle and I was

  123. like, oh this is brutal. Now I know some of us are

  124. thinking like Well Ricky that's silly, you know, like that's a

  125. silly story, you're an eighth grade, who cares?

  126. But I started thinking how many of us put our hope in stuff that

  127. is silly. Like a lot of us.

  128. We, we look at like materialistic things.

  129. We look at things of this world that we tie Our Hope to and our

  130. confidence. And like, man, if I were just to

  131. learn this, if I were just to attain this, if I were just at

  132. Make my life. A part of this then I will be

  133. able to fill in the blank. The problem is when you put your

  134. hope and things that are not of God, they will fail you.

  135. Because there's no other absolutes, accept the word of

  136. God. And what Christ tells us, that's

  137. why John tells you abide in him, abide in Christ, abide in

  138. Christ. And what we're going to look at

  139. today is that he's going to point out something he's going

  140. to say, listen you need to put your hope in Christ and he's

  141. going to come back one day. and for any believer, anybody who

  142. claims to be a follower of Jesus The return of Jesus should

  143. excite you. Not terrify you, you should be

  144. like yes, like my God is coming back.

  145. I'm ready to go but those who are not found in Christ, this is

  146. an extremely terrifying fact. Because I truly believe that

  147. when that day comes, there's going to be two groups, there's

  148. going to be one who runs toward him and say Yes.

  149. King Jesus is here and they're going to be those who run for

  150. the hills and we see that in scripture as well.

  151. John is extremely clear. So this whole idea, the promise

  152. that we should have our hope in in Christ, coming back kind of

  153. serves as dislike purifying. Hope not just as for the

  154. Believer. But also the way that we view

  155. morality the way that we view Our Lives, the way that we live

  156. our lives. It's extremely important.

  157. And this truth, this the hope that we should like put all of

  158. our chips. In all of our marbles in is this

  159. right here and it's Christ. So this should impact everything

  160. about us knowing that he's going to come back one day.

  161. There's a passage Hebrews chapter 6, verses, 19 and 20

    Hebrews 6 chapter mention

  162. I'll go and put it on. The board here on the projector

  163. here. It says this is we have this

  164. hope as an anchor for the soul firm and secure it enters.

  165. The inner Sanctuary behind the curtain where our 4Runner Jesus

  166. has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest

  167. forever in order in the order of Melchizedek and I wish I had

  168. more time to dissect. This passage this passage is

  169. incredible but our hope is anchored in Christ.

  170. That's what we cling to and for non-believers.

  171. Their anchor is not kind of like arrancar arrancar does not shift

  172. but for non-believers their anchor is on Sand, it's going to

  173. shift it's going to feel so there's a lot of superficial

  174. sources that people put their security in in there hoping like

  175. it. And you know you guys know it's

  176. like narcotics and alcohol and sex and entertainment and

  177. materialistic. Realism and all this is like

  178. extremely surface level stuff. This is all man-made stuff and a

  179. lot of people, they put all of their hope in the center of this

  180. desire for a better future. But in all reality, the only

  181. thing that's guaranteed in life is this biblical hope that we

  182. put all of our selves into because we abide in him and his

  183. name is Jesus. The future reality is guaranteed

  184. in the Lord. Anything outside of that is not

  185. anything. Absolute, it will fail you.

  186. So look what verse 28 says, Verse 28, there's a lot in verse

  187. 28 says, and now dear children continue in him so that when he

  188. appears, we may be confident and unashamed before him at his

  189. coming. So, let's kind of look at this.

  190. The way that John writes it. He begins to the verse and now

  191. and now this is different. He throws these two words in

  192. here. Now, a lot of us will read then

  193. they're like Well Ricky. That means like he's kind of

  194. pointing You right now. No that's actually in scripture.

  195. That's called an emphatic particle.

  196. Yeah, particle. Which means that it's

  197. introducing a new section of the text.

  198. So really chapter 3 should start here.

  199. But what John is doing is that he's introducing now a new

  200. subject that he's attaching to everything that he's been

  201. teaching. So if you guys remember, last

  202. week, we talked about what it looks like to abide in Christ

  203. especially in our culture, we talked about how obedience is

  204. more important than our options because, you know, we We put a

  205. lot of ourselves in our options thinking that that's going to

  206. give us success which is false. Then also, we talked about Jomo

  207. versus fomo, how a lot of us have this fear of missing out at

  208. the expense of our obedience. But really, when you abide in

  209. Christ there's a joy in missing out because you get to be

  210. attached to him. So it's like, yes, I don't get

  211. to do this because I know it's going to honor the Lord and then

  212. presents over productivity. There's nothing more.

  213. More important than the presence of God, in our lives.

  214. In a lot of times, we get so busy and trying to be productive

  215. that we miss his presence, and we sacrifice for his presence

  216. because we think productivity brings value, and that's not the

  217. case. And now he's cutting it.

  218. Boom, and you knew you knew subject coming in and now dear

  219. children. We know that's how John talks

  220. because he's about 90 years old when he wrote this.

  221. So it's a term of endearment he says and now continue in him AKA

  222. abide in him. That word continue means

  223. endurance. He's like not just abide in

  224. Christ but if you abide in Christ there's an Endurance to

  225. your faith. Your faith is going to last and

  226. that's what John is pointing at. You don't come to Jesus and then

  227. like a year later you walk away from the faith because something

  228. bad happened to you. That's not abiding in Christ.

  229. That is not continuing him, that's not enduring in Christ.

  230. So he's saying abide in Christ continue in Christ endure in

  231. Christ. So that way you persevere in the

  232. faith because that shows salvation.

  233. Why do we do this? So that when he appears.

  234. So that way in, Jesus comes back as he said, he would, he said,

  235. I'm going to come back the same way that I ascended.

  236. He goes, you may be what confident, and what unashamed

  237. confident unashamed before him at his coming.

  238. So, John is throwing this out there.

  239. He's like listen, Our Hope for our faith is rooted.

  240. In the fact that Jesus is going to come back one day.

  241. And you're either going to be ashamed.

  242. And you're going to go run for the hills or you're going to be

  243. unashamed, and you're going to be confident, see that word,

  244. confident, and the text means like a freedom of speech, like

  245. you can say whatever you want without getting in trouble,

  246. which that doesn't happen in our culture, nowadays, but you could

  247. do that. So confident is like, my Jesus

  248. is here. I'm confident that he's going to

  249. receive me. I'm confident that he's going to

  250. look at me and see the righteousness of God and not the

  251. sinful man. I'm confident.

  252. Isn't that he's going to recognize me by my name?

  253. I'm confident that I belong to the father.

  254. That's what confidence we're talking about here.

  255. But a lot of people are going to see The Return of Christ, and

  256. they're going to shrink. Why?

  257. Because this time when Jesus comes, it's not as the suffering

  258. servant. And it's not going to be as the

  259. humble King. He's coming in glory, he's

  260. coming with armies. He's coming to re-establish his

  261. kingdom, he's gonna burn everything down.

  262. So if you're found in Christ, you get to be on his team.

  263. You're not going to be against him, you're going to be with

  264. them. So there's going to be two

  265. groups of one of the groups are going to be excited and we're

  266. going to be in awe of King Jesus showing up in the clouds.

  267. The other groups going to be terrified and ashamed because

  268. we're going to recognize who just showed up.

  269. One group going to lift their hands and Glory.

  270. The other groups going to lift their hands and fear like, oh

  271. no, but based out of Philippians, Both groups are

  272. going to Bow their knee, and both groups are going to

  273. proclaim the name of Jesus, whether you like it or not.

  274. And a lot of people like will recount Matey's.

  275. I don't believe in that stuff. You're going to Bow your knee

  276. and you're going to proclaim the name of Jesus.

  277. That's what the word of God says.

  278. So you can either do it willingly or you could do it

  279. forcefully. It's going to happen.

  280. So that's where our confidence comes from.

  281. So our confident us not being a shame comes from knowing that

  282. he's coming back now. If we put our hope, knowing that

  283. Jesus will return, that's going to change the way that we view

  284. life. Because if this is true, then

  285. I'm going to, I'm going to develop a hunger for

  286. righteousness in my life, so if I abide in Christ.

  287. So remember, let's see if you walk backwards, John is saying.

  288. Okay, you're a follower of Christ.

  289. That means that you abide in him, that means that there's

  290. confession. That means that you hate sin

  291. that. So, all these things and he's

  292. not saying you're gonna be perfect, none of us.

  293. Here are perfect. We're all sinful in our nature.

  294. Jesus is the only one that's perfect, but there's going to be

  295. an anointing in you. The holy spirit, that when there

  296. is sin in the picture, it's going to convict us.

  297. There's going to be something about us in our lives were like,

  298. man, I sinned against God, I need forgiveness.

  299. There's got to be something in your life but you're like, I

  300. like sin bothers me. and if you become numb to sin or

  301. comfortable with sin, or you don't care, then we've really

  302. got to kind of re-evaluate what your decision for Christ, look

  303. like because then I have to ask where you repentant or you were

  304. you remorseful, If you did not get caught, would you still be

  305. doing it? You see, that's the difference.

  306. So if we're repentant that means that we have a repentant heart

  307. of repentance spirit. And that's something that only

  308. the Holy Spirit could give you and you opens the eyes to the

  309. gospel in your life. So you know, I love what Paul

  310. says, in second, Timothy chapter 4 verse 8, he calls like the

  311. Christ coming back like loving his presence or loving his

  312. appearing. Like there's something in us

  313. that loves the fact that Jesus is coming back now, he's going

  314. to give like an inverse 29. He's about to show like a cause

  315. and effect. So how's this work?

  316. So we put all of our hope in the return of Jesus because we abide

  317. in him. So we understand how How all

  318. this is going to go down? Then verse 29.

  319. Pretty much says it. Here is his, if you know that he

  320. is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is,

  321. right? Has been born of him.

  322. So there's a cause here. So, if you've been born again,

  323. because he uses the word born, and this is the same, this word

  324. is translated for born. This is the same word that is

  325. used in John chapter 3 with Jesus talks to Nicodemus.

    John 3 chapter mention

  326. So it means like you're from a specific thing or Pacific person

  327. or place. You are born again.

  328. That means that we are born again of the spirit in Christ.

  329. First Peter, 1 chapter chapter, 1, verse 3, new Birth into the

  330. Living Hope of the Resurrection. So when you are believer in

  331. Christ, you receive a new birth into what the Living Hope, which

  332. is where in the resurrection, you see Saul, this is coming

  333. together now. So Jesus is return.

  334. Doesn't just a stain, our faith, but it also builds this habit of

  335. righteousness inside of us. Where we want to pursue the

  336. things of God. Why does it build a habit of

  337. righteousness inside of us? I just think about it.

  338. Because what I want you to know is like this text is not, he

  339. says for he is righteous. Not for he stops doing good

  340. things or bad things. He's not talking about like a

  341. behavior here. He's talking about when you are

  342. born again, of the spirit, you are putting on the character of

  343. God, you have these traits from the anointed one, which is the

  344. holy spirit inside of you love joy, peace, patience.

  345. Kindness goodness. Faithfulness gentleness and

  346. self-control like the song. Yeah.

  347. So because you are born of the spirit.

  348. Again, that means that you take on your father's

  349. characteristics. He puts the spiritual DNA inside

  350. of you. God is a holy and righteous God.

  351. And if there's nothing in your life that cares for

  352. righteousness, then we have got to re-evaluate what you think

  353. being saved actually means. There should be something in you

  354. that pursues righteousness. John looks at this as a cause

  355. and effect. The cause is being truly Born

  356. Again. Therefore, the effect is you

  357. take on righteousness. Is that simple?

  358. In the way that people know that you are a follower of Christ is

  359. by the way that you live, your life is not just talking about

  360. it, but it's also being about it.

  361. There's got to be something in you that shows that you are a

  362. follower of Christ and that you carry the anointing in you.

  363. And we see that in James chapter 2 verse 20, where he talks about

    James 2:20

  364. how faith without Deeds. Is your faith is dead, if

  365. there's no Deeds to it. He just had an emotional

  366. experience. So there's a cause and effect

  367. here. We know that he is righteous,

  368. you know that everyone who does what is, right?

  369. Has been born of him because he's righteous.

  370. So you take on the character of God, so our hope doesn't just

  371. come in to return of Christ because we're abiding in him.

  372. So we don't get excited about that.

  373. We do. It doesn't just help us with

  374. endurance of our faith, but it also helps us pursue

  375. righteousness. And then, he's going to wrap it

  376. up here in verse 1. To see what great love.

  377. The father has lavished on us that we should be called

  378. children of God, man. Oh and that we are in and that

  379. is what exactly what we are. I love what John does here.

  380. You know, a lot of commentary say that this is like an

  381. outburst of wonder. So as John is telling us this,

  382. because remember, he's writing this to the gnostics, you know,

  383. the way that they view morality is a lot different. they have

  384. this dualism in life that we've all we've been talking about But

  385. John looks at this Eagles. You know what all of this is

  386. initiated by God's love for you? It's all initiated by his love

  387. for us. And that he gets the glory.

  388. So in verse 1, he's like men see what great love.

  389. The father has lavished on us. I love he used the word

  390. lavished. So that way we could be called

  391. children of God. Listen, the gospel.

  392. You should always be in awe of the Gospel in your life.

  393. I always, we like you can't shut up about it.

  394. I always think back of my life before Christ, transformed me

  395. the way he called me into doing what I do now like I was like,

  396. man, dude, I was such an idiot like I was do like the I was

  397. living in sin. And because of his lavish love

  398. for us, he still said Rick Kester want to use.

  399. You makes no sense like, I'm not even like call like I'm not even

  400. qualified to do this and he still says, I love you enough

  401. that. I still want to use you.

  402. On top of that, I want to adopt you.

  403. That means that you're going to be part of my family.

  404. That's the principle of adoption that we talked about.

  405. And John isn't complete all of this.

  406. How do we know he's in complete? Our look at the exclamation

  407. points that he's. It's like he's, he's like

  408. yelling at everyone here like see what great love.

  409. The father has lavished on us that we should be called the

  410. children of God. And that is what we are like,

  411. like, it's like a disbelief, like, man.

  412. This is awesome. This is incredible, that he

  413. calls us his child. Even though we were once enemies

  414. of God, he still saved us. And that's exactly what we are.

  415. And because you and I, if your follower of Christ because we

  416. are children of God, the world has no idea who we are.

  417. The world is not rock with us. It doesn't Vibe with us.

  418. I don't know how else to explain it.

  419. It's like we're just too different.

  420. The reason the world does not know us is because it does not

  421. know him. So people are going to ask you

  422. questions about your Sunday, they're going to ask you

  423. questions and people who do not believe in Christ, we're going

  424. to look like fools to them. They're going to see it as

  425. foolishness. It doesn't make sense.

  426. Why die to yourself? Why not?

  427. Just do what you want because they don't have the hope that we

  428. have. You see like this this

  429. lifestyle, like our heavenly father and savior.

  430. This this nature that we this this righteous nature that we

  431. carry inside of us is totally opposite to the world.

  432. The world does, it has nothing to do with what God has called

  433. us to. That's why in Scripture, it

  434. always looks at Believers and Christians and the word in

  435. scripture, they always call us Pilgrim sojourners and

  436. strangers. That's why he says that the

  437. world is not our home. Like, we belong to heaven, like

  438. our places in heaven. So, as we're in this world, as

  439. Believers, the world's, like Build That Wall, right?

  440. Like they're like, like, cut them off, don't let them in,

  441. but, where to place that where we don't belong, Because we

  442. belong to God's kingdom. We are his children.

  443. We belong in his presence. So, the Lord Jesus was unearthly

  444. in his in origin. So, are those that are born

  445. again, you know, when Jesus came down, he, you know, he even said

  446. he's, like, repent for the kingdom of God is at hand.

  447. He's not from this world. He's not from this Kingdom.

  448. And listen, when you become a follower of Christ, neither are

  449. you because we belong with him in heaven.

  450. So, there's going to be a little bit of a difference here.

  451. So I want us to look at what John is saying, because this is

  452. so Crystal Clear, John is saying that because we abide in him, I

  453. remember got a tie, every we got to, we got to tie it all

  454. together. We abide in him.

  455. We have his anointing, so we're able to manage our sins were no

  456. longer a slave to our sin, but, you know, we're able to say, no,

  457. it doesn't control us anymore. We abide in Christ and because

  458. We abide in Christ, go back one, go back, one.

  459. And because we abide in Christ, we're able to say.

  460. So don't go to the quote yet. Just go back one.

  461. So, because we abide in Christ, we are able to say that we do

  462. not belong here. That we know the Kingdom of

  463. Heaven, We Know That we don't belong in that Jesus belongs to

  464. us. And that's what our hope is in.

  465. Now in verse 28, he talks about that as we continue in him.

  466. When he appears we're going to be confident and we're going to

  467. be unashamed. We're going to be confident and

  468. we're going to be unashamed and what I want us to look at real

  469. quickly. Here is that whole term

  470. confidence. This is something that I felt

  471. like the Holy Spirit was like kind of working in me.

  472. If the scripture says that because I abide in Christ

  473. because I know there's coming back that that's where I find my

  474. confidence in. Then we have to ask ourselves,

  475. where is Our Hope, and our confidence coming from?

  476. Because of this text is true. That means I abide in Christ, so

  477. that means that my hope and my confidence comes from him.

  478. But it doesn't always feel that way, does it?

  479. so I was, I was thinking about this and there's a quote that I

  480. read there's a quote that I read from Psychology today because

  481. the truth is that when we talk about confidence and that when

  482. we talk about hope, A lot of us view.

  483. Those two words, And we look at it in through this perspective

  484. and the lens of the world. But it does not truly

  485. necessarily mean that it works. Through the lens of God.

  486. Because if we were to look at the world's definition of

  487. confidence, which is this right here and I was reading, I was

  488. looking it up, like this is from Psychology today.

  489. Confidence is a belief in oneself, the conviction.

  490. That one has the ability to meet life's challenges and to succeed

  491. and the willingness to act accordingly, being confident

  492. requires a realistic sense of one's capabilities and feeling

  493. secure in that. Knowledge.

  494. Now, you're like Well. Ricky, why are you?

  495. Why are you saying this? If you and I as Believers in

  496. Christ, if we are to Route go back one.

  497. If we are to route, I'm going to introduce you, I promise.

  498. Okay, if we are to Route our confidence in what the world

  499. tells us that our confidence is, then that means that we are to

  500. look internally in ourselves. The problem with that statement

  501. is that ourselves are broken. You can't root your confidence

  502. in something that is broken because what's going to come out

  503. of that? Is not going to work.

  504. What happens when God calls you to something.

  505. How many times does God call you when you're qualified?

  506. That's not what I read in the Bible.

  507. But the truth is God never calls the qualified, he qualifies the

  508. call. Like if you look at Moses, hey,

  509. go free my people. I can't talk in public.

  510. I'm gonna do it anyway. All right, take Aaron with you

  511. just go right? No ago, build an ark.

  512. What's rain? Nobody's ever seen rain before.

  513. We just learned like Gideon Gideon.

  514. I want you to like, take on this Army.

  515. Like we are the weakest tribe of Manasseh.

  516. How's this going to work? You know, even if we look at

  517. Jesus, talking to his disciples, he I want you guys to follow me.

  518. You're in change the world. I'm just a Fisher, man.

  519. Well, it's cool. You're going to like be a fisher

  520. of men now. Just come follow me.

  521. You see, so it's like if none of those guys had the confidence to

  522. do what God has called them to do impossible.

  523. You know, I was even looking at my life when I knew that I had

  524. to get continuing education, I had to go to Seminary, I'm

  525. sending these classes. And I have all these guys

  526. talking about like this all this crazy stuff and they get to me

  527. like will Rica. Are you are minions or more

  528. Calvinism? Like see, I don't care.

  529. How about that. Actually let's let's let's get

  530. more important question. Like what are you doing to

  531. disciple that your church who are you disciple?

  532. Linghu you serving all you don't get paid I'm sorry I forgot

  533. right? I mean there's so many things

  534. that we could go back and forth on but if you allow your worldly

  535. confidence to impact you, it's not going to work when God calls

  536. you to do some big stuff because I like to say you know maybe God

  537. does not operate on confidence. I like to call it God fidence.

  538. You see God fit ins is when you tie it all together, right?

  539. So confident says, like, okay, I must look inside of myself, like

  540. I got to see the realistic of my, the realism of my

  541. capabilities and and I got to make sure I feel secure in the

  542. knowledge that I have in order to do what God has called me to

  543. do. Guess what?

  544. You're never going to move forward.

  545. If that's you. Impossible because God does not

  546. call you to do the possible. You will never rely on him.

  547. If that was the case, he calls you to do the impossible, he

  548. wants you to rely on him. So when you start thinking okay

  549. I'm abiding in Christ, I have the anointing I'm in God's word.

  550. I know what it says and God is going to call me to do something

  551. that I don't have confidence in. So instead of relying on my car,

  552. Confidence, I'm going to rely on my God.

  553. Fidence. What my God fit in says, is what

  554. I read in the scripture that he's not going to leave me that.

  555. He's going to stay true to his promises.

  556. So if I work hard and I put my mind to it, like God is like

  557. I've called you to this. So you're going to move forward

  558. with it. You see my God fittings has to

  559. take over, and I love this because it's like, okay, well

  560. then we know what confidence is. Well, what is confidence rooted

  561. in? I'm glad you asked.

  562. Confidence is rooted in our perception of ourselves,

  563. regardless of any tangible external reality.

  564. So now you can go ahead and put that slide on because that's

  565. what I just read right there. There you go.

  566. Boom, right so so has the, you got this.

  567. You got this, dude. All right, you go.

  568. Confidence is rooted in our perception of ourselves.

  569. Regardless of any tangible, external reality, you see, it's

  570. rooted in what our perception of who ourselves Why is that?

  571. Such an issue? because many of us, many of us

  572. in this life grew up with a poor Foundation, For perception.

  573. A lot of us did not have Mom and Dad who blew wind in our sails

  574. and supported you and disciplined.

  575. You and said, man, go at it. A lot of us had parents, who are

  576. passive, aggressive could care less, what you did in life.

  577. Or you know they might give you a hug.

  578. If you jump through the hoop it may have been like

  579. performance-based. A lot of us might have had like

  580. a mom who just all they did was nurture you but you don't have a

  581. dad who deals with you so you just grow up like oh Huggy and

  582. nurtured. So you think that's how life is

  583. On the flip side, you grow up with a dad who is constantly

  584. just beating you down. We don't have anybody to like,

  585. like helped you realize like why You see, for many of us, we come

  586. from a Brokenness already, so the foundation of our

  587. confidence, it's already cracked and shattered.

  588. Even if you had a perfect mom and dad, they're still going to

  589. fail. Because God the father is the

  590. only one who's perfect. So our perception of confidence,

  591. it's already shattered and what the world is saying is that it

  592. is rooted in the perception of yourself, but you here's the

  593. problem. When I look at myself, I see

  594. everything that is wrong with me.

  595. I can't read. Well, I'm not the smartest cat

  596. in the room. I'm insecure about all these

  597. things. I'm insecure about my looks.

  598. I'm I'm all that stuff like man. And you know what?

  599. I could blame everything on Rayna.

  600. She said she wasn't going to come and she's having a great

  601. time. She lied to me.

  602. But look at me now. Like there's like you have all

  603. these things like. So what we do is because our

  604. confidence is shattered in our foundation, we need some kind of

  605. explanation. Nation.

  606. So what do we do? We need something to blame, we

  607. blame our past. It's mom's fault is dad's fault.

  608. I didn't grow up. Nobody ever hugged me.

  609. You know, I remember like at our old church and I won't say his

  610. name because he might be watching, but there was a guy

  611. that we were talking. He looks at me like, you know,

  612. Ricky like my dad never told me. He was proud of me.

  613. And I was like, oh that's probably why, you know, things

  614. are going pretty rough, right? He's like yeah man.

  615. I just want to hear like my dad's proud of me.

  616. So I look at them like I'm proud of you Mijo.

  617. Did that help? I got to do better now.

  618. Are you good? No. you see the thing is, We

  619. could blame our past all we want.

  620. And that's not going to fix anything.

  621. But what Jesus does is Jesus comes.

  622. And he's like, listen, if you just abide in me abide in me, I

  623. will forgive you. I will restore you regardless of

  624. your past. So your past will not have any

  625. implications of the future that God has for you, except that

  626. he's going to use your past to bring glory to his name in your

  627. future. And we say like man your your

  628. biggest misery is going to be your greatest Ministry because

  629. God uses these things. So I'll finish with this.

  630. We got to learn how to lead on our God for dense because if

  631. not, you're never going to move forward into things that God has

  632. called you to do. You have to learn how to apply

  633. in him. Now, if some of us are

  634. struggling with this, if we're tug like if we're like, Ricky,

  635. like I get what you're saying, but you're not in my shoes right

  636. now. Let me encourage you this way,

  637. maybe, if you're starting to lean to one side, We have to

  638. look at. How are you abiding in Christ?

  639. Remember, last week that's the imperative that he gave us abide

  640. in him. So if I'm struggling with my God

  641. fidence, then I might need to take a step back and look around

  642. and be like a my abiding in Christ that I did.

  643. I pitch my tent here. Am I here?

  644. You know what's interesting is how and I saw this on to man I'm

  645. going to I'm going to tell you, our Bible study on Tuesday was

  646. so good. Like man I went home like just

  647. dry like that was good today man.

  648. Like we share like we share some great stuff like man, it was

  649. awesome. Even like in the morning like,

  650. like student text me like man, I woke up feeling so good this

  651. morning. I was like, I know me too

  652. rolling. why though, because That Brotherhood.

  653. That's how you abide in Christ. You would be around people like

  654. that. And I think sometimes I have to

  655. think, like, man if I'm struggling my comment, maybe I

  656. need to take a step back and spend two hours just abiding in

  657. Christ, ah, but I'm so busy Rick.

  658. You do understand, I'm like, listen to hours of your whole

  659. entire week. Give him two hours, and watch

  660. God, redeem your time back abide in Christ abide in Christ abide

  661. in Christ. then the last thing I'll say with this, Why is my

  662. God fit in stronger than my confidence?

  663. Because it is rooted in absolute truth.

  664. He sees because it's rooted in absolute truth and that means I

  665. don't have to internalize what I look at from myself.

  666. I look at what God sees me as and because I look at what God

  667. sees me as the word of God says, I'm a Child of God, I'm no

  668. longer a slave to my sin. I've been redeemed restored, I'm

  669. an heir to the throne like all these things.

  670. Like we got to look at God's word and we won't know God's

  671. word unless you abide in him. And then we have to look at the

  672. truth of the Gospel. and we're able to see the truth of the

  673. gospel because we carry the anointing, if you're a follower

  674. of Christ, which he has put in me.

  675. So what's the truth of the gospel and will end with this?

  676. he sees me as his son, He sees me as his son, and I always say

  677. this, like saying always calls you by your sin but God calls

  678. you by your name. He sees me as his son.

  679. So that's the truth of the gospel.

  680. I've been redeemed restored, I belong to Christ now.

  681. Talk about truth. What's truth routed through the

  682. really didn't like the resurrection.

  683. So, while everybody else is saying like men look at

  684. yourself, look at other things. Listen, everything else that I'm

  685. looking at is dead. Jesus is Alive, the power of the

  686. Resurrection. I'm rooted in that too.

  687. And then, lastly, the anointing in your life.

  688. The Holy Spirit. We have the Holy Spirit.

  689. That means that we are Guided by the holy spirit.

  690. So the Lord is guiding my steps. He's helping me.

  691. He's comforting me. He's helping to make those

  692. decisions in life, but listen, you got to do some of that work.

  693. You have to put in some of that work, you have to know him, you

  694. have to want to be with him. You you've got to do that.

  695. We learned about that last week. So, before we worship our

  696. father, I pray asking you to be a part of everything that we're

  697. doing. And Jesus, we love you and we

  698. pray all these things in your holy and righteous name.

  699. Amen.
