  1. This is City Post Church. We're about three things.

  2. Build equipped and send all under the.

  3. Lordship of Jesus Christ, a small church plant in Fort

  4. Worth, TX. Who decided to do things a

  5. little differently? Adoramos Ajesu Cristo I love

  6. city post because of the people. It's where I belong.

  7. We truly preach the word. I love City Post because of the

  8. community we've been able to build.

  9. To do ministry like Jesus. For light to push back.

  10. Darkness. This is City Post podcast.

  11. I mean Genesis 3 this morning. Hey, so confession about a.

  12. Week and a half ago. I was at the courts because I

  13. got a ticket. I know you're like Rick.

  14. You're past. You're not.

  15. Supposed to get tickets. But it's not my.

  16. Fault that I had to. Wait, so.

  17. Long to get my license renewed. Texas y'all need to like.

  18. Speed the process up. I'm just blaming other people.

  19. I had a year so. So when I got hit, I got

  20. hit.com. When I got hit, I ended.

  21. Up getting a ticket for. Having an expired license and

  22. then I. Also got another citation

  23. doesn't. Citation sound better than

  24. ticket. I got another citation.

  25. For making an illegal left. Turn so I had all.

  26. All this piling up on me, I was like, Satan, you're attacking

  27. me. It was actually my dumb.

  28. Fault and. And all this was happening, so I

  29. had. To go to a judge.

  30. I had to stand in front of a court because I didn't want the

  31. consequences of my citations to follow me all through life.

  32. So I had to like. Spend my morning, my Thursday

  33. morning, and I'm sitting there in the courthouse waiting to

  34. plead no contest. To see if I could do.

  35. Driver's Ed and to show them that I actually do have my

  36. license so go ahead and just. Take that off.

  37. And as I'm waiting. To go see the judge.

  38. My attitude kind of changed. A little bit.

  39. I was like, man, this. Is going to take like two or

  40. three hours. And I'm just sitting here like

  41. on my phone reading like, man, will they hurry?

  42. Up. And then I started doing like

  43. the whole like. Why do I have?

  44. To do all this like it's not, I just got a.

  45. Citation for a license. Like at least I didn't kill

  46. anybody. Like it could have been so much

  47. worse. Like I'm not selling drugs to

  48. minors. I'm not, I didn't go steal.

  49. I didn't do any of these harder crimes.

  50. Like why do I have to take time out of my?

  51. Schedule to come and see the judge.

  52. To make sure that this. Thing doesn't follow me and hike

  53. up my insurance or. Or maybe there's another career.

  54. I want that they're going to look at my background and it's

  55. going to it's just going to follow me through life like.

  56. Why do I have? To do all this stuff.

  57. It's not that serious and of. Course I went to the.

  58. Judge everything is cool. Paid my 200 bucks and kept it

  59. moving. But I say all this.

  60. Because when we talk about. Sin Many Christians see sin as

  61. a. Parking ticket or a citation?

  62. It's not that bad I. Just don't want this thing to

  63. like follow me through. Life and, you know, maybe.

  64. I could get rid of. It but then we start.

  65. Pointing like but I wasn't as bad as that person.

  66. Like my sin wasn't as bad as their.

  67. Sin. So God, being the judge, should.

  68. Like give me a little bit of a lighter.

  69. Sentence should ease things up in my life.

  70. It shouldn't be that serious. But when we look at a holy and

  71. righteous. God, sin is sin.

  72. And when sin came into this world, Adam and Eve.

  73. Did not just break a. Command Adam and Eve did not.

  74. Just get a citation. No, this is so much bigger than

  75. us. So what I want to look at?

  76. Today is the result. Of sin last.

  77. Week we talked about creation. And how God shows.

  78. His glory through His creation. And the pinnacle of that

  79. creation is when he created. Man and woman when he created

  80. mankind and how that relationship was.

  81. Perfect with him they were. Perfect with each other.

  82. And the the relationship between mankind and nature was perfect.

  83. Everything was great and then they sinned.

  84. Satan comes in in the form of a. Serpent he.

  85. Kind of sells it to. Eve, like you will be like God.

  86. Like did God really say you will surely die?

  87. Are you sure about this? And Eve.

  88. Fell into it and gave. The fruit to Adam.

  89. They both sinned against God and everything went wrong.

  90. The relationship amongst themselves.

  91. And we talked about that what what like.

  92. Sin how it creeps into our marriages and.

  93. And how? Pride does all this bad.

  94. Stuff in our relationships and in how sin.

  95. Damages our relationship with God.

  96. And what I want to. Look at today is the.

  97. Outcome of sin but also. At the end of Genesis 3.

  98. God gives us a way. Out.

  99. Through his mercy and His. Grace, man, which I just.

  100. You know when I. Saw this I.

  101. Was like my mind was blown. I was like how come I never

  102. noticed this but I want to. Talk a little bit about sin

  103. first, because in. Order for there to be.

  104. Good news, There's got to be bad news.

  105. And the bad news? Is that all of us jacked it up?

  106. Because all of us. Are born into our sinful nature.

  107. All of us have. Sinned all of us have.

  108. Fallen short of the glory of God.

  109. Sin is not just a little. Bit.

  110. A lot of bit. Whatever.

  111. No, when you sin. Against the holy, unrighteous

  112. God. Boom.

  113. It's immediate. It's an.

  114. Immediate rebellion against the Lord.

  115. There's a definition of sin I want to put.

  116. Up here. And if, when we?

  117. Look at How do I? Define sin.

  118. Listen sin. In a simple term, sin is the.

  119. Rebellion of the creature against the creation.

  120. God. Created us, and because God.

  121. Created. Us.

  122. Therefore he owns us. We talked about this last.

  123. Week so when we sin against a holy and righteous.

  124. God we are. Rebelling against the God.

  125. Who created you and I? We are rejecting everything

  126. we're. Rejecting his.

  127. Care for us. We're rejecting his authority.

  128. We're rejecting the right. That he gave us to.

  129. Command everything on this earth.

  130. We are. Telling God that we know more

  131. than Him. My way is better than your.

  132. Way. Now God.

  133. Gave Adam and his wife. He gave him a.

  134. Heads up. And because God created

  135. everything. He gave.

  136. Parameters for everything, so he's.

  137. Telling Adam and Eve he's like, listen, I made you guys so I

  138. know how y'all function. I know how to.

  139. Best have you thrive. And then he gives them the

  140. cultural mandate. He's like, man, I'm going to

  141. give you everything to you, Adam, and then I want you.

  142. Guys to multiply the. World and and.

  143. We talked about what that. Looks like what marriage looks

  144. like. But then they sin and in God in

  145. Genesis chapter 2 verse 17, God is like, I want you to eat this

    Genesis 2:17

  146. and you can have that and I want you to name all the animals, but

  147. but there's one thing I need you not to do and the one thing is

  148. for you to eat from this tree right here.

  149. Everything else is cool. But this one little thing do not

  150. eat from this tree. Because if you do.

  151. You will know good and evil God sets.

  152. The boundaries to help. Adam and Eve thrive.

  153. He sets them up. For success, but they fall.

  154. Into rejection. And then when they sin, they're

  155. now rejecting God's authority over them, and they're declaring

  156. their independence from him. And God's like I created you,

  157. but now they fall into the lie. Of Satan.

  158. Like man, I want to be like God. I want to know what he knows.

  159. The one thing that God did not place under Adam's feet was

  160. Himself. But everything else?

  161. God told Adam, man, I need you to run this.

  162. I need you to name the Adam. Everything else like work the

  163. grounds, it's going to be great. For you so when we.

  164. Sin we become enemies of God. Now we have been.

  165. Casted away from his presence. Rather than becoming his friends

  166. and something joyful and some of us are thinking, man, Ricky,

  167. that's a little. Extreme like like.

  168. Man like a little sin. Like I said, a little bad.

  169. Where at? Least I didn't kill anybody.

  170. Listen when you're dealing with a holy and righteous being.

  171. God is holy and righteous. Anything will take you away from

  172. His presence that does not belong to Him.

  173. There's also. A saying I'm going to.

  174. Go put this quote up. Sin is in US and of us, not just

  175. on us. Sin is in US and of.

  176. Us. It's not just on.

  177. Us, when we think of sin, whenever we think about

  178. rebelling against God, it's not like I messed up.

  179. It's not like I did something bad.

  180. No, like sin goes into the. Crevices of our heart.

  181. And our being and our soul, so our human nature, all stems from

  182. a sinful nature. Because.

  183. Of how sin came into this world. So that means even.

  184. When you. Try to do good it.

  185. Thrives out of sin, even. Our emotions thrive out of.

  186. Sins. So if you think.

  187. About stuff that we struggle with, like our.

  188. Addictions. How we treat people.

  189. How we act out of. Anger, how we pop off.

  190. How we get stressed out? Our anxiety, our depression.

  191. Listen, those are just. Symptoms to a greater force, and

  192. that force is sin all of that. Stuff is in our inner self, it's

  193. in our hearts. So no matter how.

  194. Good, we try to be. It will never be good enough and

  195. for. Some of us, we don't.

  196. Realize how jacked up we are. So how?

  197. Do we know that we're in our sinful nature?

  198. God gives us his righteous. Law as a mirror.

  199. So what God does is he gives us a law.

  200. He gives us. Some boundaries and some.

  201. Stipulations to show us just how bad.

  202. We are Romans 319, it says. Now we know.

  203. That whatever the law says, it says to those.

  204. Who are under the law so that every mouth.

  205. May be. Silenced, and that the whole

  206. world held accountable to God. Then Romans 323.

  207. For. All have sinned and fallen short

  208. of the glory of. God.

  209. So sin is a big. Problem guys and it entered.

  210. Our world. Through one man was Adam.

  211. So we're all. Born of sin.

  212. We all have a sin nature. Listen, you can't teach.

  213. A little baby, How to be bad. I remember when Livia was a.

  214. Baby and we were. Feeding her, she takes the food

  215. and throws. It at us who taught her that

  216. South side Livia. That's right.

  217. Who taught her that? Nobody teaches your kids how to

  218. misbehave. It's in our human nature.

  219. Right. So that's why the Gospel is such

  220. fantastic. News and what I want to.

  221. Look at is a few. Things this morning because OK,

  222. Sin entered the world. And in order.

  223. For us to understand the. Gospel of Jesus Christ.

  224. We have. To understand the sin problem

  225. and how we. Solve the sin.

  226. Problem. So immediately sin enters the

  227. world, but yet immediately. We see God's grace.

  228. How do we see? God's grace immediately because

  229. Adam and Eve. Are still alive to talk about

  230. it. What did God tell them?

  231. If you eat from this tree. You will surely die they.

  232. Eat from the tree and they're still going.

  233. So God in his gracious nature has this.

  234. Amazing plan he's going to. Show us today.

  235. So look at verse. 8IN Genesis I'm going to run through and our

  236. focus is going to be verse. 20 but I want.

  237. To run through a few things so that way it.

  238. Sets us up for success. And then afterward, we'll be out

  239. of here. And then we'll go take our moms

  240. out to eat and all that good. Stuff, Right, All right, so.

  241. Here we go. Look at verse 8.

  242. It says so this. Happens after they take the.

  243. Fruit. They fall under the the scheme

  244. of the serpent. Verse 8 says then the man and

  245. his. Wife heard the sound of the.

  246. Lord God as he was. Walking in the garden.

  247. Of the cool. Of the day and they hid from.

  248. God, the Lord God. Among the trees of the garden in

  249. verse 9, but the. Lord God called.

  250. To the man. Where are you?

  251. And he answered, I heard you in the garden.

  252. I was afraid because I was naked.

  253. So I heard I hid and then verse 11.

  254. And then he said. Who?

  255. Told you you were naked. Have you eaten from the tree

  256. that I commanded you not to eat from?

  257. All right, I just think. This is so fascinating so.

  258. A quick in verse 8, something that's really interesting here

  259. is the name of God. You see in Genesis chapter 1 and

    Genesis 1 chapter mention

  260. 2 the name of God comes out as Elohim.

  261. Elohim means God our creator. Beginning from verse 8 on, the

  262. author of Genesis who's Moses starts adding a different name

  263. of God and he has. Yahweh to it.

  264. So you might see Elohim Yahweh or you might see Yahweh Adonai,

  265. which means. So Elohim is God the Creator.

  266. But now it's switching to Yahweh, which is God in a more

  267. personal sense, like my Lord my my Adonai.

  268. Why? Because now God is about to get

  269. into relation. Closer to.

  270. Adam and Eve. He's he's.

  271. Walking. Watch this.

  272. He's walking amongst them. It's just.

  273. Said in verse 8. He was walking in the cool of

  274. the garden. And I love this because it says

  275. that they hid. From God.

  276. You know how dumb that is? Like I hear him.

  277. No man. Like come on, you can't hide

  278. behind the tree. Like God could see he's the

  279. creator. Of all of all things, but we

  280. also know that the one thing that sin.

  281. Causes is. Guilt and shame and when guilt

  282. and shame impact. Your life the.

  283. First thing you want to. Go do is hide.

  284. Why do you think people dip out when they're in their sin?

  285. We get in our guilt and our shame and we hide.

  286. You ain't hiding from nobody you're hiding from.

  287. Yourself. God is.

  288. Looking and God knows. And let me tell you something,

  289. when God asks a question, it's not because he wants the answer.

  290. He knows the answer. But he's.

  291. Trying to show them something here and then what ends up

  292. ensuing in verse 12, one of the other outcomes of guilt and

  293. shame and when sin enters. Our life guilt and shame.

  294. Blame. It's everybody.

  295. Else's fault, it's not mine. It's their fault.

  296. They're the. Guilty.

  297. It's because of them. And you start blaming people and

  298. you start pointing fingers at people and you forget like we

  299. have a sinful nature. It's not always.

  300. The person to blame before that happens, you have got to look

  301. internally first. And I'm not negating when people

  302. harm us. I'm negating when we.

  303. Are in our sin. When we are in the wrong and we

  304. don't want to admit. That we have failed miserably

  305. because it's everybody. Else's fault?

  306. And really, that's what sin. Does.

  307. Sin creeps in our life and it. Spills out in that way.

  308. Look. What happens in verse 12?

  309. The man said. I mean God.

  310. Goes to the man first. Responsibility here comes.

  311. The blame game Look. At the man said the man said

  312. God, it was the woman, it was her fault.

  313. The one that you gave me, I didn't choose her.

  314. You took my. Rib, it's your fault.

  315. So man is blaming God, not just the woman.

  316. He's like, it's the one you gave me.

  317. It's like she gave me. Some fruit from the tree.

  318. And I ate it then. God said to the woman.

  319. What? Is this that you have?

  320. Done. And the woman blames.

  321. Who the serpent it was the serpent he.

  322. Deceived me so I ate. Now I love verse 14 and. 15 This

  323. is so crazy. Because God is.

  324. Talking to his creation. But he demands from Satan.

  325. He doesn't give. He doesn't give Satan a.

  326. Chance to talk. Look what?

  327. Happens in verse 14. So he looks at Satan, he goes,

  328. so the Lord God said to the serpent.

  329. Because you have done this. Cursed are you, above all.

  330. Livestock and all wild animals you will crawl on your.

  331. Belly and you will eat. Dust all the days of your life.

  332. Man, what happened? Bam woman.

  333. Why bam Satan? It doesn't matter.

  334. I mean. Like like he does the whole.

  335. Rock thing like it doesn't. He.

  336. Calls him. Out he's like, it doesn't.

  337. Matter which I want us to see this.

  338. God's authority goes. Beyond Satan, Satan has to.

  339. Apply reply to God. All Satan could do here.

  340. Is be quiet and take. It he doesn't, God does not

  341. allow Satan to speak. He goes right at.

  342. Him and verse 14 is biological when he talks to.

  343. Satan, but I like to say verse 15 is theological.

  344. When he talks to Satan. Because look what he says in

  345. verse. 15 And I want us to pay attention to verse 15 because

  346. this is going to impact verse 20, right?

  347. And he goes. I will.

  348. Put enmity between you and the woman, and between your

  349. offspring and hers. He will crush your head.

  350. And you? Will strike his heel because

  351. this is the theological. Outcome of what happened?

  352. What I love about this is that God.

  353. Is not freaking out right now. Sin enters.

  354. The world and what God? 'S pretty much saying goes.

  355. Then like what you messed up, what you did does not impact

  356. what I'm working out. God is like man, I got this

  357. thing and listen. And no matter.

  358. How busy the devil is? He's God's devil.

  359. He has to respond. To the authority and the.

  360. Sovereignty of our God. I love what Martin Luther says

  361. Martin. Luther is called the devil,

  362. God's lap dog, because he has to do.

  363. What the? Lord commands He's only allowed.

  364. To do what? God permits him to do so.

  365. When God speak, speaks. Satan has to stand there and

  366. take it. But we also see.

  367. Here is not just divine judgement.

  368. We also see a. Sparing mercy that God is

  369. showing us and he's setting up. He's setting up the gospel.

  370. He's setting up the outcome. We have.

  371. Sinned. We are separated from him and

  372. he's going to show us. How he's going to fix it?

  373. Because he loves us. Now there are some consequences

  374. to our sin, so just. Real quickly, what are the?

  375. Consequences now remember in Genesis 1 and.

  376. Two, God gives the cultural. Mandate now, it does not impact.

  377. It does not impact the promise, the promise that God.

  378. Gave. Adam and Eve is still.

  379. Ongoing. It's just going.

  380. To be a little. Bit more difficult for them now.

  381. Look at verse. 16 To the woman who said I will make your pains

  382. in childbearing very severe with painful labor you will give

  383. birth to children your. Desire will be for your.

  384. Husband and he. Will rule over you.

  385. So let's take a quick survey. Ladies does.

  386. It hurt to give birth. I don't know.

  387. I wouldn't. Know, I'm just saying.

  388. Yes, like we see this. This is the.

  389. Outcome of the curse. And then to Adam, he said.

  390. Because you listened to your. Wife and ate fruit from the

  391. tree. About which I commanded you so,

  392. Adam, don't get it twisted because you knew.

  393. So don't blame your wife. You must not eat from it.

  394. Curse it is the. Ground because of you,

  395. therefore, though painful toil, you will eat from it all the

  396. days. Of your life.

  397. So Adam is to work the. Ground.

  398. Adam is to work the. Garden, but this time there's

  399. going to be thorns and thistles. Is going to be.

  400. Difficult for him. He's going to have to sweat.

  401. He's going to have to. He's going to have back.

  402. Breaking work that he's going to have to go through.

  403. Look at verse 18 and it will. Produce thorns and thistles for

  404. you and you will. Eat the plants of the field.

  405. By the sweat of your brow, you will eat your.

  406. Food until you return to the ground since.

  407. From you were taken for. Dust you are and dust.

  408. You will return it's. Going to be hard Adam guys.

  409. These are all consequences of sin entering the world.

  410. Pretty much what God is saying. Everything that I made perfect,

  411. everything that I made beautiful, everything that I

  412. created sin now. Is jacking it up think.

  413. About it like man, God created dancing.

  414. Dancing is awesome, but dancing could also be.

  415. Provocative and disrespectful. We do that with.

  416. Everything food like think about everything.

  417. Everything that is beautiful, everything that is good that God

  418. created now has a twist in it where it could actually become.

  419. Sinful. The whole world has gone awry

  420. like. Everything is messed up now.

  421. So where do we go from here, Sin?

  422. Has entered the world now. What?

  423. What do we do? Well, God's going.

  424. To show us how. Salvation comes into play here.

  425. So what we're going to do the next just couple of minutes?

  426. We're going to look. At what God requires of us.

  427. When it comes to salvation, so. Immediately we look at verse. 20

  428. Adam named his wife. Eve because she would.

  429. Become the mother, all living things.

  430. So #1 When we talk about salvation, listen.

  431. Salvation requires faith, so God is going to show us a picture

  432. here of. What it looks like to get?

  433. Out of the sin problem that we have.

  434. Salvation requires faith. Like Ricky I, I read.

  435. That Adam named his wife Eve. How in the world?

  436. Is that so? Think.

  437. About this, I mean, I've been studying.

  438. Guys, Eve. 'S name does not come in Genesis

  439. one or two. This is.

  440. The first time we see Eve's name.

  441. So when we call like, well, Adam and Eve, we're in the garden,

  442. yes, but the whole time it was Adam and his wife Adam.

  443. And his. Partner Adam and the woman.

  444. Eve, this is the first. Time we see the name of Eve now

  445. remember. What God said in verse. 15 We

  446. have got to understand verse 15 God.

  447. Is saying. This in front of all of them and

  448. God says I'm going to put enmity between you and the woman and

  449. between your. Seed and his seed.

  450. He's talking about the offspring.

  451. The seed. Of the woman Adam is.

  452. Listening to this guys. There has never been a.

  453. Birth in Scripture? Adam has no idea.

  454. What getting pregnant looks like, Adam has no idea.

  455. What a kid looks like. Adam doesn't know.

  456. What a seed like. All Adam heard God.

  457. Say. Was that there is going to be an

  458. offspring, there's going to be a seed from the woman that's going

  459. to crush the head of the serpent, and Adam has a.

  460. Decision to make, do I? Trust God.

  461. Or do I trust the serpent? Do I?

  462. Trust that God is true. In his word that an offspring is

  463. going to come and. Crush the head of the.

  464. Serpent or do I continue to go on the path that Satan says

  465. saying man does God really? Think he's?

  466. Going to kill us. I want to be like God so.

  467. Adam has a decision to make, and when Adam names his.

  468. Wife. Eve.

  469. Listen to me, the name Eve means life.

  470. He looks at his wife and says, God I trust.

  471. What you're saying, Eve? Your your name is going.

  472. To be life because. Life is going to stem.

  473. From you, not just life. But the one who's going to?

  474. Crush the head of the. Enemy is going to come from you.

  475. This is where it all. Begins and I am trusting God's

  476. word right now. Listen when Adam named his wife.

  477. Eve. It was a turning point.

  478. Where he turned back to God. Because of his faith, guys, it's

  479. all about faith. It requires faith.

  480. The evidence that he believes in.

  481. God is the name He. Gave his wife Eve.

  482. And lies. This is a.

  483. Faithful. Statement that Adam is

  484. declaring. That God is going to.

  485. Crush Satan and Adam believes. God out of.

  486. Eve having life coming from her. You know when you look at

  487. Hebrews 111 one it says now. Faith.

  488. Is confidence and what we hope for and assurance.

  489. Of about what? We do not see.

  490. But we also see Genesis. 15-6 Abraham believed the Lord.

  491. And he credited. To him as.

  492. Righteousness, guys, it is faith.

  493. Faith is required for salvation. It is.

  494. You putting your. Faith in Jesus Christ.

  495. That will lead you to. Salvation, it's not about your.

  496. Works. It's not about how much.

  497. You go to church. It's all.

  498. About putting your faith and trust and putting complete faith

  499. in. Christ means.

  500. A complete surrendering of your. Life to him.

  501. Guys, there's no other way. Jesus says John. 14-6 I am the

  502. way and the truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father

  503. except through me. We even see this in Ephesians.

  504. Two, it is for by faith you are saved.

  505. Through grace, not of your work so.

  506. That may any man could boast so my question to.

  507. You that you think? Like man, I'm good with.

  508. God, do you have? Faith in Christ.

  509. Jesus Christ is the only. Way to it?

  510. And what we see here is that God is.

  511. Creating a blueprint for Jesus as Jesus comes and takes the

  512. salvation. Of all sins, so salvation

  513. requires faith so that. Means that man's response must

  514. be acknowledgement and putting a.

  515. Faith in Christ. Putting a faith in God.

  516. Through Christ, what else do we see?

  517. So. Adam named his wife Eve because

  518. she would become the mother of all living things.

  519. The seed is going to come from. Eve to crush the serpent.

  520. Adam is trusting God and we know that.

  521. He has faith because of what? He named his wife.

  522. Which is Eve. That's how we see it.

  523. But then something else. Salvation.

  524. Requires is atonement. Salvation requires.

  525. Atonement, which is number 2. So we have man's response, but

  526. now? God is going to give.

  527. A provision for us. So yes, you have faith.

  528. Awesome. The problem is.

  529. You're still a sinful person, so yeah, you have faith.

  530. That's great, come on in now I have to atone your sins.

  531. How do we see atonement man? Look at verse 21.

  532. Look what happens the Lord made garments of skin for.

  533. Adam and his wife and. Clothe them.

  534. You know what's interesting is when I see this, it doesn't say

  535. that. Adam or that God took.

  536. Sheep took the wool of the sheep.

  537. Made some fruit of the loom and gave him some.

  538. Clothes doesn't talk about that. God did not put.

  539. Some leaves. Together God does not use.

  540. The bark of the tree. What does God use to clothe?

  541. Adam and Eve animal skins. In order.

  542. For there to be animal skins, that means that animals had to

  543. die. Guys, this is the.

  544. First death in Scripture. So what do we see?

  545. Here? We see.

  546. Guilty individuals who messed up in God having to kill an

  547. innocent animal to cover them. Guys, this is a foreshadowing.

  548. Of Christ. And that's what atonement is.

  549. Atonement is taking the sacrifice.

  550. Of an innocent victim in. Order to cover the guilty.

  551. And. This started here as a.

  552. Symbolic. Way to show what, Jesus?

  553. Does on the cross. For the.

  554. Gospel and God continues this. Right, like.

  555. God took the skin, but also pay attention.

  556. Look, God chose the animal. Adam did not choose.

  557. Eve did not choose. God chose the animal.

  558. God killed the animal and God. Took the.

  559. Skin of the animal to cover the sin.

  560. Of the guilty, God chooses the sacrifice, because God is the.

  561. One who knows what payment is acceptable for the rebellion of

  562. his creation. God chose the sacrifice if.

  563. You don't remember anything from today.

  564. I want you to understand. This God chooses the sacrifice.

  565. And Jesus is the Lamb, slain by God before the foundations of

  566. the. World God chose Christ for God

  567. so loved the world. That he sent.

  568. Jesus to come down so whoever believes in him, who has faith

  569. in him, will not. Perish, but have.

  570. Eternal life with Him. Guys, God chooses the sacrifice.

  571. And God chose as as. The substitute for the guilty.

  572. We see this all through. Scripture, man, we even.

  573. See it in the next. Chapter like Genesis chapter 4.

    Genesis 4 chapter mention

  574. Cain and Abel. Cain brings a sacrifice that God

  575. did not see. Satisfactory.

  576. God did not choose it, and he did not say.

  577. That's good. But Abel brought a sacrifice

  578. that was. Pleasing to the Lord.

  579. Cain gets mad. And what does Cain do?

  580. Cain kills. His brother Abel, but we.

  581. See this whole innocent? Life for a guilty.

  582. With animals all. Through.

  583. The Old Testament genesis chapter 8 no one makes animal.

    Genesis 8 chapter mention

  584. Sacrifices Exodus 22 I'm. 20 and 22 those.

  585. Chapters. Moses.

  586. Talks about making these sacrifices.

  587. Job 15 Job offers. Animal.

  588. Sacrifices to God listen to. Dead animals offered to God is

  589. in. Place of the guilty.

  590. Sinner, this is something that God institutes.

  591. But sacrifices. Don't mean anything if the heart

  592. behind it is not correct. Because Isaiah also says that

  593. your sacrifices are like filthy rags to me guys.

  594. This whole sacrificial system that God isn't.

  595. Putting in place is a metaphor. And it's pointing one big fat

  596. sign to Jesus Christ. So all through the old.

  597. Testament he's implementing. The sacrificial systems to show

  598. the seriousness and the severity.

  599. Sin and God. Chooses God, gives

  600. specifications. To the animals that must be.

  601. Used not just to take the. Sacrifice of the.

  602. Sin, but also to be. In his presence and how do we

  603. see this man even Genesis chapter 22.

    Genesis 22 chapter mention

  604. When Isaac. Is about to get sacrificed.

  605. Who provides the sacrifice? God as the RAM shows up to

  606. Abraham. Guys God is the one.

  607. Even the Hebrew word atonement means is Kapoor the word

  608. atonement or the word Kapoor? Means to repay a debt.

  609. And to purify. So when you look at like.

  610. These levitical sacrificial. Systems in the Old Testament,

  611. it's not just simply get an animal.

  612. God has very, very. Specified instructions to what

  613. animals? Need to be used.

  614. In order to right the. Wrong in order for atonement to

  615. work. And then God was always on.

  616. Israel, because Israel would always get the sacrificial.

  617. Systems wrong and the problem. Is is that?

  618. When correcting a wrong When correcting a wrong being covered

  619. in. With sin.

  620. It's like. Israel is re entering a a broken

  621. relationship. With Yahweh in a.

  622. Posture of humility and surrender so when the sacrifice

  623. don't meet the expectations of the Creator.

  624. That relationship is still severed.

  625. In God's eyes. This is a lot of.

  626. Work. So God will require.

  627. Different animals for different sacrifices.

  628. In fact, the sin bearing animals were actually sent away.

  629. Where the? Priests would put the sins of

  630. their people on a goat and then send the goat out.

  631. That's. Where we get the whole.

  632. Term scapegoat from but. If you're going to enter.

  633. Into God's presence and. Ask.

  634. For the Lord, for the forgiveness of sin, the

  635. sacrifice. Must have no blemish in it.

  636. The priests would look at the sacrifice.

  637. And they would examine it. There could not be any.

  638. Issues. They had to be perfect.

  639. In order for God. To accept.

  640. It on Israel's behalf, so sacrifices are important.

  641. I want to read something. Real quickly Hebrews chapter 10

    Hebrews 10 chapter mention

  642. if you have your. Bibles, Hebrews 10 and.

  643. Why is it so important to us to understand?

  644. If God chooses the sacrifice, if God gives the.

  645. Stipulation for the sacrifices of.

  646. Sin and what pleases him, and for atonement that means that.

  647. Your sacrifice doesn't really fit his law.

  648. So then why do we? Think what we sacrifice.

  649. Is going to please God. What does it say in Hebrews 10?

  650. And look at verses 15 actually. You know what?

  651. Let's start on 11 Hebrews 10/11. Day after day, every priest.

  652. Stands and performs. His religious duties.

  653. Again and again, he. Offers the same sacrifices which

  654. can never take away sins. But when this priest had offered

  655. for all time 1 sacrifice for sins.

  656. He. Sat down at the right hand of

  657. God, and since that time he waits for his enemies to be.

  658. Made his footstool for by. One sacrifice he made.

  659. Perfect forever, those who are. Being made holy the.

  660. Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this.

  661. First he says this is the. Covenant I will make with them

  662. after that time, says the Lord. But I will put my laws in their

  663. heart, and I will write them on their minds.

  664. Then he adds their. Sins and lawless acts I will

  665. remember no more. And where these have been

  666. forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.

  667. You see so. What God is telling us.

  668. Is that he chooses the sacrifice.

  669. Now I know a lot. Of us.

  670. Go through Lent and a lot of us have that mentality like, I'm

  671. going to surrender, I'm going to.

  672. Sacrifice things for a little. While and I think that's.

  673. A good. Reset.

  674. I mean that could. Be a good way to create habits.

  675. It's a great way for us to shift.

  676. Our focus. But if you think that your

  677. sacrifice. Is going to suffice atonement

  678. for God? You don't get to choose if I

  679. think just because I gave up. Doctor Pepper, God's going to be

  680. happy with me. I don't get to.

  681. Choose. So what God chooses is that the

  682. sacrifice has to be perfect. It has to be innocent, it has to

  683. be blameless and what we see in Hebrews 10.

  684. Is that the son of? God.

  685. Who's Jesus Christ came down? And gave the.

  686. Ultimate sacrifice like this is it.

  687. There's no more. No more sacrifices are needed

  688. once and for all. Jesus came and I think many.

  689. Of us need to start. Giving up, giving things up.

  690. And we need to get into. This whole idea like Jesus.

  691. Died for me once and for all. I am.

  692. Forever forgiven and forever saved.

  693. Everything else is icing on the. Cake so Jesus shows.

  694. Us that we need atonement. For our sin, so we.

  695. See that we need. Faith.

  696. Salvation requires faith. Salvation also requires

  697. atonement. And then the last thing we'll

  698. talk. About and then we'll be done.

  699. Is that? Salvation also brings

  700. protection, so. Once I have put my trust in

  701. Christ, once I have acknowledged.

  702. His sacrifice for my sins and I have repented.

  703. Of my sins because I'm. Covered by the.

  704. Best sacrifice? I'm covered.

  705. By the blood of Christ. God now protects us.

  706. How does he protect us? Look at.

  707. Verse 23. And then we'll be done.

  708. Actually, verse 22. After he drove.

  709. Out man he placed on the east. Side of the Garden of.

  710. Eden, cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and.

  711. Forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

  712. Man, some of us read that and we're like, man, Ricky, like

  713. that kind of stinks, like they can't have the tree of life

  714. anymore and what we. See as an obstacle What?

  715. We see as God. Blocking us from something.

  716. Is actually God's grace. Protecting us from something

  717. because in that garden. Is also the tree.

  718. Of knowledge of good and evil. And what God?

  719. Is saying is like you. Can't go.

  720. Back to the tree of. Life.

  721. And try to live forever. Because sin has now entered the

  722. world. So even if you.

  723. Were to go back and eat from that tree, it's not going to go.

  724. Well, for you. So what I'm going to do is I'm

  725. going to set up. I'm I'm kicking you guys out,

  726. I'm moving you guys out and I'm going to put. 2 cherubim and I'm

  727. going to put. A sword right there.

  728. In the East. So what is he telling Adam and

  729. Eve? He's like I'm covering you.

  730. Guys, because here. I'm I'm you're going to work.

  731. Yes, Sin entered the world, but I'm making a way.

  732. For you, because over there is what caused you to.

  733. Sin over there is not life that's going to help.

  734. You. Thrive over there is what's.

  735. Hurtful, so I'm going to. Block that way.

  736. Where the cherubim? Represent when we look at

  737. Scripture and. Exodus.

  738. The cherubim are placed at the, the at the.

  739. Ark of the. Covenant, one on each side.

  740. We call that the mercy seat. We talked about this on.

  741. Easter, but also in First Kings chapter 6 the cherubim are

    1 Kings 6 chapter mention

  742. carved. Into the walls of the temple and

  743. placed in the innermost room, symbolizing the presence of God.

  744. So what is God telling them? Watch this.

  745. My presence now is going to. Protect.

  746. You from the things that are trying to harm you.

  747. So because we have a. Salvation because we have

  748. atonement. We also have his protection.

  749. Towards sin and listen to me, many of us see.

  750. This whole idea of like. Man.

  751. God. Doesn't want me to have fun.

  752. God doesn't want me to live. Life God doesn't.

  753. Want me to turn up? And guys like, no, I'm

  754. protecting you because I love. You.

  755. Like I want you to thrive. I have so much better for your

  756. life. So man, I need.

  757. You not to do these. Things because I know what's on

  758. that side. And then he pulls him to the.

  759. Garden of the East. Why did he say East?

  760. Because the. Sunsets in the East Adam and Eve

  761. Adam lived the Bible says he lived about 900 years so.

  762. He did live a. Fruitful life, but sin.

  763. Caused them not to live forever, and as they're working the land

  764. every single day, that that sunsets is almost like a

  765. reminder. Of what happened so as Adam.

  766. And Eve are looking at the sunset.

  767. They're probably thinking like man.

  768. That's we could have had that. But I think otherwise.

  769. I think every time they saw the. Sunset.

  770. It was a reminder. Of God's grace on their life.

  771. That they're still alive. Because they should have been

  772. dead. You eat up this tree, you will

  773. surely die. So what we see here?

  774. God's grace. God's sin is an issue.

  775. Sin is not to be. Played with We got to take sin

  776. seriously. The only way that works.

  777. Is when you put your trust in. Jesus because he is.

  778. The only one that could atone for your sins.

  779. His sacrifice is the only. One that could take it and then

  780. through the holy. Spirit which He walks with us,

  781. He begins. To protect us and shield us and

  782. guide us. Through life, keeping us away

  783. from the things that are going to hurt us and the way from the

  784. things that are going to separate us from Him.

  785. It's protection. It's grace.

  786. God's grace. Pray for us.

  787. Listen, just the same way that Adam and Eve.

  788. Hid from their. From their guilt and shame

  789. behind a tree, God is calling us to a different.

  790. Tree that put a savior to the cross.

  791. That hung the savior. Run to that tree.

  792. Hide in that shadow. And you will find not guilt and

  793. shame, but you'll find grace and mercy there.
