-
Of Jesus Christ. A small church plant in Fort
-
Worth, TX. Who decided to do things a
-
little differently? Adoramos ayesu cristo I love
-
city post because of the people. It's where I belong.
-
We truly preach the Word. I love City Post because of the
-
community we've been able to build.
-
To do ministry like Jesus. For light to push back.
-
Darkness. This is City Post podcast.
-
Man, so I don't know about you guys.
-
But I love a good. Conspiracy theory, right?
-
People are like what it's. Like is that how you?
-
Open all your conversations. You know, like the older I get.
-
I do a lot. Of community work because of my
-
job and and you run into a lot of.
-
People who? I'll have conspiracy theories
-
and. So I just want to.
-
List a few just. For your entertainment and mine.
-
All right, so. Don't get mad, all right,
-
because I know some of you are like, well, Ricky.
-
It is true, all right, but I was like conspiracy theorists, all
-
right, so. Here's a few conspiracy theories
-
that are out in our culture. Right now, some of them.
-
Are pop culture related? Some of them are.
-
Anyway, I'll just read them all right, so.
-
The moon landing was a hoax, actually.
-
Stanley Kubrick the. Director, He's the one that.
-
That made all that together the earth is.
-
Flat. Some people are like, well,
-
Rick. All right, chill out.
-
All right, the COVID-19 vaccines have a tracking chip that is
-
connected to the 5G network so that the government and that
-
billionaire. Philanthropist.
-
Like Bill Gates could keep. Surveillance on everybody's
-
movements. Birds are not real.
-
They are actually. Drones by the US government for
-
surveillance the Denver International.
-
Airport is the hub for. The Illuminati.
-
Khloe Kardashian is actually OJ Simpson's daughter.
-
The Titanic didn't actually sink.
-
The moon isn't real. Prince Charles is a vampire.
-
Katy Perry is actually. Jon Benet Ramsey.
-
It's just all hidden anyway. A Pokémon Go is actually a
-
government. Spy program Britney Spears was.
-
Actually an instrument used by the Bush administration.
-
Gucci Mane was a rapper for All That You Don't know is actually
-
replaced by a government clone. Taylor Swift does not have a
-
belly button. Biggie and Tupac.
-
Were actually killed by the. FBI Stevie Wonder actually isn't
-
blind. How does he not run into stuff?
-
I'm just saying. And Tupac is not dead.
-
He's actually living in Jamaica right now.
-
And the point with. Conspiracy theories.
-
You know this. Is a belief that some secret or
-
influential organization is responsible for this an event or
-
a phenomenon and and many people love?
-
To dig and and they get their. Information from.
-
All these sources, so they make. Conclusions based on.
-
What they have heard or. Seen but the problem.
-
Is it's like. What are the sources from?
-
What's the truth? And I've talked to a lot of
-
people. They're like, well.
-
Ricky on. TikTok, it said.
-
I'm like, oh. Because everything on tik.
-
T.O.K is true, right? Or social media and and and
-
like. We get our stuff.
-
From here and whenever when. Believers talk about the Holy
-
Spirit. Sometimes it feels like people.
-
Talk about the holy. Spirit like it's a conspiracy.
-
Theory. They're like ah, but.
-
But does it do? Was it real?
-
Like is it so like there's two sides of the?
-
Spectrum. Let's just be honest.
-
Right. There's like one side that's
-
like the yelling. And the convulging on the floor.
-
And the Holy Spirit activate Holy Spirit, you know, like all
-
that, that crazy stuff. But then on the other.
-
On the flip. Side you have people.
-
That are like no rig like that that.
-
Was for a. Season like that's not.
-
Like the Holy Spirit doesn't really do that.
-
And then there's people. Who?
-
Kind of idolize the. Gifts of the Holy.
-
Spirit more than God himself, so they claim.
-
Like if you don't have the gifts of this for then you're not
-
really. Saved so if you don't.
-
Speak in tongues and you don't have salvation.
-
So like, there's all these. Things in the air and I'm like.
-
We have God's word, you know, like, let's look what it says.
-
And yes, there are. Gifts of the Holy.
-
Spirit we see. That in First Corinthians.
-
Paul talks about that, but before you could.
-
Run. You got to learn how to walk and
-
we got to look. At what does it look like to
-
live? In the Spirit, because many of
-
us. Got it twisted.
-
We, we, we have a view of the Holy.
-
Spirit that is not correct and I think if.
-
We we learn. That the Holy Spirit.
-
Is not warm. Fuzzies the Holy.
-
Spirit are not goose pimples. The Holy Spirit's not what makes
-
you. Cry.
-
Listen. The Holy Spirit is a person of
-
the Trinity, Father. Son, Holy Spirit has always.
-
Existed. He didn't just show up in acts.
Acts 1 chapter mention
-
Chapter 1 He was always around. He was there at the.
-
Beginning of creation we see. It in the old.
-
Testament in the beginning, when God created light.
-
It says that he set his breath. So go ahead and put up the first
-
light. What we see the Holy Spirit.
-
And this is how you say it in Hebrew.
-
His. Rah you.
-
Got to get that. Going right and when you talk
-
Hebrew. So what you?
-
See in the old. Testament is when he talks.
-
About the Spirit of God. The name of the.
-
Spirit of God is Hua. Elohim, which is Goddard, the.
-
Spirit of God the Creator. And the Holy Spirit in the Old
-
Testament does not show. Up.
-
In this cozy. Little like.
-
The Holy Spirit? No, it's very violent.
-
It is a violent force. It is the Spirit of God that
-
split the sea. Open.
-
So that way his people could walk across it.
-
It is the Spirit of God, the Huai.
-
Elohim that knocked down the. Walls of Jericho and.
-
It's that same spirit that. Led Christ.
-
Through all his ministry and it's the same spirit that lives
-
in you and I. So when we look.
-
At the Holy Spirit, Yes, it. Started in the Old Testament.
-
We see it in the Old Testament. Isaiah 60. 1.
-
It talks about the Spirit of the Lord right the the hurrah.
-
Elohim right it comes upon me to preach the gospel and Isaiah.
-
Talks about that's where he. Gets his anointing from and that
-
that's what's given to him by. God, so he's able.
-
To proclaim the good news. Of the Lord, so the Holy Spirit,
-
the Spirit of God, we see it all throughout scripture.
-
It's he's. Always existed.
-
He's always been. Around and it's a.
-
Violent force. It's a powerful force that the
-
Lord uses. So what?
-
We're going to look. At today is what does it look
-
like? To live in the Spirit.
-
And I want to start in verse 8IN in Romans chapter 8.
Romans 8 chapter mention
-
So we're going to kind of. Kick off like where Pastor
-
Randall ended. He talked about how there's no
-
condemnation for those in Christ and.
-
It talks about what that. Looked like and then we.
-
Get to verse 8. And this is.
-
What the word of Lord? Says I'm just going to read
-
through 12. Those who are in the realm of
-
the flesh cannot. Please God, you.
-
However. Are not in the realm of the
-
flesh. But are in the realm of the
-
spirit if. Indeed the.
-
Spirit of God lives. In you and if anyone does not.
-
Have the Spirit of Christ. They do not belong.
-
To Christ. But if Christ is.
-
In you then even. Though your body is subject to.
-
Death because of sin the. Spirit given life.
-
Sorry, the Spirit. Gives life because of
-
righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who
-
raised Jesus from the dead is living in you.
-
He who raised Christ. From the dead will also.
-
Give life to your mortal. Bodies because of His spirit.
-
Who lives in you, right? It's a little.
-
Bit of A twist. And turn like man Paul.
-
Likes to talk in lots of details.
-
So let's go to verse 9. I want to.
-
Start there, because there's some.
-
Really significant things that I want us to understand.
-
So if we're believers in. Jesus Christ, if you claim.
-
To. Surrender your life to Christ.
-
There's certain qualities, there's certain.
-
Things that we see and in verse 9.
-
He talked. Paul talks about like man.
-
Or in verse. Eight, you don't live.
-
According to the. Flesh, right?
-
So that. Means that we are no longer
-
control. We don't live according to the
-
world's standards. The world's.
-
Like policies and moral. Values like.
-
Our sinful nature. We are now in the Spirit.
-
Because of justification and. Because we're in the spirit, we
-
no. Longer live our life according
-
to the flesh. And I love what Paul.
-
Starts. He says you, however.
-
Are not in the realm of the flesh.
-
He's kind of calling us. Out.
-
He's like, listen. You can't live to the flesh but
-
you. You, however you believer in
-
Jesus. You do not live in the realm of
-
the flesh, but are in the realm of the spirit.
-
If indeed. The Spirit of God lives.
-
In you all. Right, so in.
-
Verse 9 I want us to look at something here.
-
Where it says. If indeed the Spirit of God
-
lives in you. Right.
-
Like if if you're a little like no taker, that's that's.
-
Something you might want to underline.
-
A better word is dwell. If the.
-
Spirit of God dwells inside. Of you.
-
That means what Paul is saying is that the Spirit.
-
Of God. Makes a home in your heart and
-
many. Of us treat the.
-
Spirit of God. Not a home, but more of an
-
Airbnb. He doesn't leave whenever things
-
don't go. Right, he doesn't leave.
-
Whenever you are in your sin and he doesn't leave.
-
Whenever you're not feeling the goose pimples if you are in
-
Christ. He.
-
Dwells inside of your life. And he dwells inside of your
-
heart. He makes a home inside of us.
-
This is what Paul is. Getting at First Corinthians
-
619, don't you know that your bodies are temples of the holy?
-
Spirit. The Spirit is.
-
In you and. You have received the Spirit.
-
From God you do not belong to yourselves.
-
Christ has paid the price for you, so you so use.
-
Your bodies in a way that honors the Lord.
-
That means that. Our bodies because Christ
-
dwells. In US no longer belongs to us.
-
That's why Paul. Says.
-
In Romans chapter 12. That our bodies are to.
Romans 12 chapter mention
-
Become living. Sacrifices period.
-
Holy to him. That way we do not conform to
-
the patterns. Of this world Christ lives.
-
In US now, this is significant right here.
-
Because if Christ dwells in. Us there are some ramifications
-
that. Show.
-
That Christ lives in US. So if Christ.
-
Lives in US if if he's made his dwelling in our hearts that
-
means that there must be evidence that someone has taken
-
residence in your heart you know last week or.
-
Two weeks. Ago, Rachel and the girls left
-
the house. They went on vacation.
-
They left me behind. I just couldn't go.
-
But while they were. Gone.
-
I was excited. I was like, well, I get to clean
-
the house like. Deep clean like like get stuff
-
out. And I remember like getting home
-
late and like just just cleaning the house.
-
Then they got home and then I walked back into the living
-
room. Once they're home, there's.
-
Evidence that there's two little.
-
Girls in my house. It's like Barbie puked
-
everywhere. There's pink, there's toys,
-
there's they're playing, which is normal, but I was like, man,
-
I sure did clean a lot. See, there's evidence that.
-
Someone is living in this. House, there's evidence that
-
there's. 2 little girls that are.
-
Living in this house if Christ dwells in our hearts and makes
-
his our hearts his home. There's evidence that Christ
-
lives there, that's called. Fruit.
-
Jesus. Talks about this in Matthew
Matthew 7 chapter mention
-
Chapter 7. He was like, man, what's?
-
Evidence that you follow Christ there's.
-
Fruit in your life, that is. Produced that people can see.
-
So no fruit, no residence. You could say all you.
-
Want you could claim it all you want.
-
But if your life. Does not look like it.
-
There is no evidence and listen as a.
-
Believer. As a Christian that claims.
-
That Jesus Christ. Is their Lord and Savior.
-
That means that we have a higher principle.
-
That means that we have something more powerful than
-
our. Flesh.
-
Then I love what Paul does here in verse 9.
-
Because he. Divides up the the.
-
Both camps and then he contains this and if anyone does not have
-
the. Spirit of.
-
Christ, they do not belong. To Christ, you know this.
-
Is not science like. It's very self-explanatory and.
-
What Paul's saying is like, listen.
-
You have those who are filled with the Spirit.
-
And those who are not and the way.
-
That you could. Tell is not that.
-
They shout louder or. That they make, that they do the
-
greedy during. Worship or that they yell.
-
Or that they do languages. It's not about lit languages and
-
all that. Stuff.
-
No, it's about. What it looks like?
-
What fruit? Are you bearing what?
-
Fruit, are you? Bearing This is something I had
-
to learn because it's like, man, we have.
-
Such a twisted view of the Holy Spirit.
-
A lot of people ask me, well Ricky, like is your church
-
spirit? Filled and I'm like yes.
-
Because there's believers. Who have the Spirit inside.
-
Of them. So if a church is.
-
Studying the Word of God. If they are loving his word, if
-
they're making disciples. If they're serving the
-
community, if they are worshipping Christ, listen,
-
that's a. Spirit filled church.
-
Yeah, Ricky. But y'all eat that loud?
-
Though listen, a lot of that stuff is just.
-
Cultural, a lot of that stuff. Could be a trained behavior.
-
You could put people. In environments like that, it's.
-
Really easy to. Just kind of.
-
Transform into a man. It's.
-
But but. Listen, you could be loud.
-
And you could do. All that stuff and still love
-
your sin. And still live different.
-
Outside the world so. Yeah, and here it's great.
-
But. Out there, it's the same exact
-
ball game, so. Those who are Spirit filled,
-
those who are the Spirit. Filled ones love Christ.
-
How do I know I'm spirit filled? I'm so glad you asked.
-
Let me give you 4. Quick reasons, I'm going to put
-
it on the. Screen.
-
What does it look? Like to be spirit filled.
-
So I'm just, I'm not going to rock through these, but I just
-
want to show you. Because when we get the.
-
Holy Spirit, so according to. Scripture to be spirit.
-
Filled means that the. Spirit has LED you to Jesus to
-
be Spirit. Filled means that the Spirit.
-
Put you. The desire to honor Jesus, that
-
means the things that. He loves you, love holiness.
-
Righteousness, seeking Him, spending time with him, praying
-
to him. Is the Spirit.
-
Leading you to be more like Jesus, which is sanctification.
-
Is the. Spirit at work in your.
-
Heart, you see. Guys, so to live.
-
In the spirit is not body work to live in the.
-
Spirit is hard work it. All comes through the heart.
-
And like I. Said I'm not dogging the gifts
-
of the. Spirit, that's a real.
-
Thing. Like Paul talks about it, but
-
before we get there, you've got to get here.
-
You've got to understand what it means to live.
-
In the spirit so. If the Spirit of Christ.
-
Is in me if the. Spirit of Christ.
-
Dwells in me. Then listen, there's not going
-
to be some contradictory statements.
-
That we say. I hear this all the time.
-
I believe in God. But I don't go to.
-
Church. I don't like the church, No.
-
Then you don't believe in Christ.
-
How can you say I believe in Christ but I don't?
-
Love his bride. Well, Rick, I'm church her.
-
Well then go to a. Different church.
-
I had a bad. Experience at a restaurant.
-
You don't see me going. I'm I'm taqueria hurt, bro.
-
They jacked up my asada bro. I'm never going to taqueria
-
again. I'm not restaurant.
-
Hurt, I had a terrible. Time on vacation?
-
I'm vacation hurt. No, that only.
-
Goes to the church. And those who are spirit.
-
Filled understand that there's something.
-
That ain't. Right, like the people.
-
Are not going to like. Deter you from Christ.
-
From loving Christ so. Yeah, you got your.
-
Feelings hurt? Fine, go somewhere.
-
Else like. Dude, I've had that happen.
-
Before. And my thing I never questioned.
-
Man, forget it, I'm not going back to church.
-
That is garbage you. Never had it in the first place.
-
Because if you have Christ. Paul is saying you got the
-
spirit of the living God inside of you.
-
That means. That if you have the Spirit of
-
Christ then. You're going to love.
-
The things of Christ you're not going to.
-
Hate him and we've got. To learn so when that stuff
-
about like I love God. But I don't.
-
Like the church, I don't go to church, man, You don't.
-
You don't have it. Like, let's just be honest, all
-
right? I'm off my soapbox.
-
All right? Look at verse 10.
-
We got to keep moving. But if Christ is.
-
In you. So Paul talks about.
-
That in verse 9 we have the Spirit of the living God inside
-
of us. But if Christ is in you even.
-
Though your body is subject to death.
-
Because of sin, the. Spirit gives life because of.
-
Righteousness, right? So because of.
-
Our. Sinful nature.
-
Paul's just walking us through the gospel right now.
-
Our. Sinful nature, our spirit
-
because. Of sin we're separated.
-
From a holy and. Righteous God, so Jesus.
-
Comes and he and he. Rectifies it, right?
-
He he pays the price. So we are now forgiven.
-
So that means that the. Spirit.
-
Of God, who's in US, actually overwhelms our fallenness.
-
So Jesus comes in and yes, we're going to.
-
Struggle with our flesh. We're going to struggle with our
-
sin. We're not.
-
Perfect people, we live. In a genesis.
-
Three world, but because we have the Spirit.
-
Of God inside of us. We don't have death.
-
Anymore. Now, physically, yes, you're
-
going to die. Like because we live.
-
Like listen. Like I woke.
-
Up and my foot hurt for no reason.
-
I wore sandals all day and my feet hurt.
-
Listen, that's because we live in an imperfect world.
-
It's like man, if. You're headed to this way.
-
You're headed to death. And I love.
-
Where it talks about like how we're.
-
Born. Into death, but we leave this
-
world to perfection. Which is life with Christ.
-
In him for all. Eternity so yes, our body is
-
unredeemed it's dead it's. Sin.
-
Paul's just reiterating it. But because the Spirit gives us.
-
Life. We have life in his.
-
Righteousness, and I love this. Text too, because if you look at
-
verse. 10 It talks about the spirit, now usually in the New
-
Testament. You would see the word Spirit,
-
either Holy Spirit, Spirit of God, Spirit of Christ, or like a
-
capitalized letter. With an S and what Paul is
-
mentioning it here, he's also bringing in.
-
Our human spirit so as. Our spirit.
-
You know, as we're living in our in our spirit, and Christ comes
-
and he puts his. Spirit inside of us.
-
He actually takes over. The human spirit.
-
It makes us. It makes the human.
-
Spirit alive. It manifests joy inside of us.
-
That's why one of the fruits of the.
-
Spirit is Lovejoy. Peace, patience, kindness,
-
goodness, faithfulness, and self-control.
-
So we have the. Spirit of God in US.
-
And he raises us to glorification.
-
So it's because the Spirit we're able to see Christ when we pass.
-
Away from this world and in verse 11.
-
And if the spirit. Of him who raised.
-
Jesus from the dead. Is living in you.
-
He who raised Christ. From the dead will also.
-
Give life. To your mortal bodies because.
-
Of his spirit who lives. In you, I don't know if y'all
-
caught verse 11. How powerful.
-
That is because what Paul's saying.
-
Is like listen to the same. Spirit, this powerful spirit,
-
the. Elohim the Holy.
-
Spirit, this is the same. Spirit that move Christ all
-
through his ministry, that led him into the wilderness even
-
when Satan was going to tempt him, that healed people, but
-
more importantly, that rose him from the grave.
-
Get the power of resurrection and he's like.
-
Oh, and by the way, that same exact spirit.
-
Lives inside of you now. What's Paul trying to tell us
-
here? He's trying to tell us.
-
You have no excuse because. We have the.
-
Power of the resurrection inside of us there is no.
-
Excuse that we would lose. Against the flesh.
-
The only way we lose against the flesh is if we don't.
-
Battle with it. We we just sit.
-
Back and let it and. Paul, say like no you.
-
Have the spirit of the. Living God in you, He.
-
Raised Christ from the dead. Like that same.
-
Spirit lives inside of you. You see, like there's two types
-
of people, those who love. Christ and those who don't,
-
those who love the things of the Lord, and then those who love
-
the things of the world. It's very easy to tell.
-
So we have our. Fallen condition and think about
-
it how the. Spirit LED.
-
Christ and everything that we see in.
-
Scripture of what? How the Spirit LED Christ.
-
Is the same thing. It goes for us.
-
Think about it. The Spirit, Holy Spirit gave
-
Jesus life. He gives us life as well.
-
The Holy Spirit grew Jesus. In wisdom and knowledge.
-
He also grows us in. Wisdom and knowledge in the
-
teaching of the Word. But also the Holy Spirit if we
-
look at Acts verse chapter. One verse 8 it.
-
Says when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.
-
It says that you shall. Be my witnesses.
-
He empowered Christ to preach and proclaim and listen that
-
same spirit that he used. To empower.
-
Christ to preach and proclaim the gospel is in US, and he's
-
calling us to do the same exact thing.
-
And there's no. Excuse because you have.
-
That same spirit. So.
-
You're to be my witnesses. As the Holy Spirit falls on top
-
of us, as we walk in the Spirit, we're to receive the power.
-
When it comes on us. So my question to you.
-
Is what does your. Witness say to the world.
-
If you're. Claiming to walk in the.
-
Spirit, what does your life show the world what does your life
-
show the world about the. Power of God is it?
-
Fear is it. Defeat.
-
What is it? And we've got to understand now
-
we have this amazing, amazing. Power of the Lord.
-
That lives inside of us. And then moving.
-
Forward and now look what he look.
-
What Paul does, so he tells us, he's like.
-
Man, we don't. Live in the flesh anymore we
-
live in the. Spirit, what does?
-
That mean because we live. In the.
-
Spirit, we have his righteousness.
-
And we also have his power. So now we could actually.
-
Fight the flesh, we could fight the.
-
Sin and then verse 12. Hits and he goes therefore, but
-
look how he addresses he says brothers.
-
And sisters. He's talking to believers.
-
Only right now those who are found in Christ.
-
He goes. Listen to me.
-
Therefore, my brothers and sisters, lean in.
-
We have an obligation, but it's not to the flesh.
-
We have a duty, we have a. Commitment.
-
We have a responsibility, but it's not to this.
-
World so don't get sucked. In thinking that you owe this
-
world anything, don't get sucked in with your guilt and your
-
shame. And how the world is like
-
looking at you. Pointing fingers like beating
-
you down like you're not worthy enough, you don't have an
-
obligation. To the world you have an.
-
Obligation to the Spirit. So whenever that hits me, my
-
obligation is not to. The world be like.
-
How do I fix? It what did I do wrong?
-
Oh my goodness, I'm terrible person.
-
I'm not worthy of Christ. I'm going to keep getting down
-
on myself. No, my obligation is not to
-
that. My my obligation is to.
-
Christ. So my obligation is like when
-
when I'm fighting my sin, my obligation.
-
Is Lord, Forgive me, Lord. Help me fight this.
-
Lord, be with me. Lord, I want to honor you with
-
my. Body Lord help me get.
-
This and the more I. Study the word man and.
-
I'm, I'm just going to be honest with you, like I know a lot of
-
us, we say this term and I know what it means though, I'm just
-
going to let, let go and let God.
-
It sounds great. And it's true.
-
But man, the more I read this. It's like there's a battle.
-
It's not let go and let. God it is let go.
-
And bring God in the. Fight it's about put your.
-
Armor on and start swinging. It's about fighting sin and what
-
we see. Here what we're going.
-
To see in the next. Couple of verses is that Paul is
-
going to tell us he's like man like believers put.
-
Things. To death they don't just.
-
Wait. For sin to come and pull them
-
down what they. Do is that they put it to death.
-
There's a word called. Mortification in order.
-
For you to have vivification. Which means to grow something
-
new. You must.
-
Put it to death. We see this in Colossians
Colossians 3 chapter mention
-
chapter 3. Just fix your mind to the things
-
above, the things that are in heaven, not on the things of the
-
earth. There's some things that we got
-
to put to death in our life. And I know like, people don't
-
like the concept of surrender. No, like it's not.
-
About just sit. Back and let God.
-
Handle it. God is like I've.
-
Given you my. Spirit, I've given you the.
-
Spirit of power, you got it. That means that in order for my
-
spirit to come through, I must put my my flesh to death.
-
When every single day that means you.
-
Pick up the cross, Jesus says pick up the cross and.
-
Follow me listen you. Crucify the flesh every single
-
day. That's why Paul talks.
-
So much about running the race, like even to the point of
-
exhaustion. He's like, I'm going to keep
-
going. I'm going to keep going.
-
I'm going to strengthen, man. I'm going to strengthen.
-
I'm going to kill the flesh. I'm going to kill the sin in my
-
life. We've got to start.
-
Getting a little bit more on the defensive.
-
Here we have the Spirit of God. It's what we need so.
-
Paul's constantly reminding us. That if we.
-
Live in the. Flesh that's going to lead.
-
To death, but he also. Reminds us that if we.
-
Live in the spirit that's going to lead to.
-
Life. So we got to put.
-
The things of the flesh. To death, because if not, then
-
death is going to be the outcome.
-
So we have to kill it. We.
-
Have to kill it now. What he also talks about is for
-
those who are led by the Spirit of God.
-
You're also the children of God. Oh, I love what Paul does here.
-
Because he's like, man, we have the.
-
Holy. Spirit, we have all this stuff.
-
You're not. You're not just like he's not
-
just. Working in you to fight.
-
Death. But you know what?
-
He is going to help you with your identity because when you
-
know who you belong to, it changes.
-
You know that you belong to God and this is His main work.
-
So in the Old Testament. When you talk about the Spirit
-
of God or the Holy Spirit, it's you see.
-
Like like a God likeness. But in the New Testament.
-
You see a Christ likeness and the holy.
-
Spirit is what? Helps us in our sanctification.
-
So the two main functions. Of the Spirit of God.
-
Are illumination and sanctification illumination just
-
think of like Despicable Me or the Minions illumination I'm.
-
Sorry I watched with two wee kids.
-
Illumination. What does that mean The.
-
Spirit of God. Is now giving you the capacity
-
to know His word and what? The word of God says he shows
-
you the. Sin in your life.
-
He shows you how to defeat it. He helps you to know.
-
And understand this word. Is not just by.
-
This is not just stories. This is life now and then
-
sanctification, the holy. Spirit is what helps you look.
-
More and more. Like the person of Jesus.
-
And listen, that's a lifelong process.
-
It doesn't end till you're with him.
-
Those are the 2 main functions of the.
-
Spirit. But then what, Paul?
-
Tells us is that God because of the Spirit.
-
He makes you his child. He's pretty crazy.
-
There's a passage if you have your Bibles. 2nd Corinthians,
-
Second Corinthians chapter 3. Two Corinthians chapter 3,
2 Corinthians 3 chapter mention
-
verses 17 and 18. I love this passage.
-
I think. This is one of the the best way
-
to explain. This says this.
-
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit?
-
Of the Lord is there is what say a little bit louder.
-
Freedom. There's freedom.
-
And. We all.
-
Who? With unveiled faces,
-
contemplate. The Lord's glory are.
-
Being transformed into his image with every increasing glory
-
which comes from the. Lord, who is the Spirit?
-
So how does? The Holy Spirit transform us
-
into the light. Likeness of Christ.
-
He points us to Jesus because the more that you gaze on the
-
Lord himself, the more levels. You you're going to keep.
-
Going You're going to keep seeing Christ in a new way.
-
You're going to. Grow we call this.
-
Spiritual maturity, which is exactly.
-
What the Bible teaches us. You grow.
-
More and more into the likeness of God.
-
You see God's glory over and over.
-
Again. And what the Spirit?
-
Does. Is that the?
-
Spirit in your heart it. Points you to the sun.
-
And that way, the more that you see the sun, the more that you.
-
Grow in him, and the more that you grow in him, the more.
-
Glory of God, that you. See but in order.
-
For you to see. The glory.
-
Of God that means. That there's some sin in our.
-
Lives that we got to. Deal with.
-
There's some repentance that needs.
-
To take place. There's some acknowledgement so.
-
If where the Spirit of the Lord is, there's.
-
Freedom, the opposite of freedom.
-
Is bondage, fear and slavery? So if I.
-
Claim to have the Spirit. Of the Lord in me.
-
I'm not over here enslaved anymore.
-
Like that's a. Lie from the enemy.
-
So I'm like, man. Ricky, I'm not worthy.
-
I'm not doing. This.
-
I'm not like dude. Get your eyes up.
-
Look at the. Glory of Christ, Look at him,
-
look at He's. Giving you illumination to read.
-
His word and to understand. It because where the Spirit of
-
the Lord. Is there's freedom in Christ?
-
I got to move. All right, the Spirit.
-
Verse 15 Then it says the. Spirit you receive.
-
Does not make you. Slaves, we talked about this so
-
that you live in. Fear again.
-
Rather, the spirit you received, it's brought to you by.
-
Adoption through sonship to sonship and by him we cry.
-
ABBA. Father, listen, that means that.
-
We get to go to. God, not just as a.
-
Like that's. God, and this is me.
-
No, this is a personal relationship.
-
It's like my girl's. Calling me dad or daddy.
-
Or or pop or Papa like it's it's very.
-
Close. It's very intimate.
-
And he's saying that the spirit causes that.
-
And I love what Paul. Does here because Paul.
-
Uses this explanation of adoption.
-
And I started studying it a little bit.
-
And and. Adoption in the Roman world.
-
When Paul. Wrote this man the explanation.
-
Just blew my mind. Adoption.
-
What it looks? Like so adoption in this
-
century, in this. World was actually extremely
-
difficult. Adoption was not like me and my
-
wife can't have a child so we want to adopt back then.
-
Adoption could also mean like man.
-
I really like what your. Son has learned and I think your
-
son could benefit our family. With his skill set so.
-
We might want to adopt him, you see back.
-
Then it was. All about building the family,
-
the wealth, the reputation. But.
-
Roman adoption was very hard. So there's something.
-
Called Patria Postas patria post.
-
Us it means that the. Father's has power, so the
-
Father's power. In the family.
-
The patria post us. Rules the family, so no matter
-
how. Old you are, the Father still
-
has power over your life. You'd be. 25, married with a
-
mortgage and three kids. Dad still has all say.
-
For some of y'all still. Through today, but back then
-
whatever Dad says is law, right? Like like the.
-
Romans honored that, so this was a formal event.
-
So there was 2 steps. In order for you to.
-
Adopt somebody into your family. Step number one was called Mensi
-
Potato. Is where the word.
-
Emancipation comes in Mensi potato.
-
Means that there is a. Symbolic scale.
-
So let's say that I wanted to adopt.
-
A son in your family? I would go to that father.
-
And I would make the gesture of exchanging money or property or
-
some kind of. Price in order to adopt that
-
child and the. Symbolic nature would.
-
Be that I would go. To him and then he would reject
-
my first offer and then he would either add.
-
More or add less. Than you go back the second time
-
and then you agree on that offer.
-
Just to show that the father. 'S like I'm not just throwing my
-
child away. I'm not just throwing my son
-
away. I I want you to know something I
-
like. I want you to see the value in
-
this but then the third time. That the father.
-
Comes to the other father. They shake.
-
Hands and they make the. Deal.
-
And they make the exchange. Of goods or property or.
-
Land in order for this. Father to adopt that child.
-
There's got to be an agreement. Then Step 2 comes in.
-
And Step 2. Is called Vindicado I'm.
-
Sorry, Vindicario Vindicarrillo is you're.
-
Stating a legal case now for the adoption.
-
So you made the. Payment.
-
There was an agreement now. You have to do the paperwork.
-
Now you have to go in front of the judge in Rome.
-
And you have to show. That this is the case, so
-
there's got to be a. Transfer of rights with the.
-
Son and I started reading this and it just blew my mind.
-
I was like, no wonder, Paul. Always uses this.
-
Example. No wonder God.
-
Does this. Four things immediately take
-
place. Four things immediately take
-
place. After all of those steps.
-
Happen when the son is. Into the adoption, the legal.
-
Process. #1 the adopted person. Lost all his rights.
-
From his former family, so once I.
-
Adopt that child that. Family cannot.
-
Do tell that child. What to do anymore?
-
They can't say, hey, you owe me this.
-
You need to come visit us. No, that's gone the family.
-
Gave all the rights over. To the new family #2 the new,
-
the child becomes an heir. To his father's new.
-
Estate, so that means whatever. This father has the child that
-
he's adopted. Is now an heir to everything
-
that the new father has #3 the old.
-
Life of the Adopted. Person this.
-
Is crazy the old? Life of the adopted person.
-
Is completely obliterated. It's like.
-
It's never happened. Before.
-
So this. Person could have committed
-
crimes, he could have stolen money, he could have.
-
All this debt if the father adopts him.
-
And it goes through. Everything that he has in his
-
past is gone. It's like he's being like.
-
Reborn or something, It's like a new life.
-
And then the last thing #4 he's permanently the son of the new
-
father. There's no going back.
-
There's no changing minds. I don't know about you guys, but
-
that sounds like salvation to me.
-
That sounds like the grace of God to me.
-
And what Paul is saying is that. Because of the Spirit we.
-
Are now sons and daughters. Of God.
-
Through adoption. And he uses adoption to show us
-
what that means. And let's finish this thing up.
-
Verse 16 and the Spirit. Himself testifies with our
-
spirit that we are the children of God.
-
They say it's the Holy Spirit. Is locking arms with God saying
-
yes he is? The Son of God.
-
I am a witness because also when you do adoption.
-
You need to have at. Least three witnesses.
-
Father, Son, Holy Spirit. You got to have at least three
-
witnesses. Through law, the.
-
Spirit is saying. Yep, he is.
-
Now, verse 17. If we are.
-
His children, we are his. Heirs, heirs to God and coers to
-
Christ. And if indeed we share the
-
sufferings in order that many, we may share.
-
In His glory, so how? Are we going to finish this
-
thing up? So real quickly I'm.
-
Going to go. Through this pretty quick what?
-
Does it mean for the? Holy Spirit to lead us so based
-
off what I've read. And just kind of.
-
What Paul shows. US6 quick things number one for
-
the Holy. Spirit to lead us.
-
That means the Holy Spirit leads us.
-
To repentance first the. Spirit of God, when it.
-
Comes on us. It leads us to repentance.
-
Because our pride, it's not. We don't want to repent.
-
We don't want. To say we're sorry.
-
You crazy, the holy. Spirit is the one that.
-
Leads us to. Understand that God Forgives us
-
and that God is gracious. And God is loving if we repent
-
to Him. Psalms 51.
-
God create. Sorry, yeah, Psalms 51 verse 10.
-
God create. A pure heart.
-
In me, give me a new. Spirit that I is faithful.
-
To you don't send me away from you.
-
Don't. Take your Holy Spirit away.
-
From me, give me. Back the joy that comes.
-
From being saved by you. Give.
-
Me, a spirit that obeys you so that I will.
-
Keep going. Illumination.
-
Sanctification. He shows you your sin.
-
But then he forgives you, or he shows your sin so that God can
-
forgive you. #2 the Holy Spirit leads us to think little of
-
self. And much of Jesus.
-
Oh oh. That means it's not about.
-
Me because we saw. Where self got you.
-
It's all about Jesus. I love what the Spirit says.
-
I'll read this real. Quickly first John chapter 5.
1 John 5 chapter mention
-
Verse 6. Jesus Christ.
-
Was born as we are. And he?
-
Died on the cross. He wasn't just.
-
Born as we are, he also died on the cross.
-
The Holy Spirit is a truthful. Witness about him.
-
That's because the Spirit is truth.
-
There are three that are witnesses about Jesus.
-
They are the Holy Spirit. The birth of Jesus and the death
-
of. Jesus and the three of them.
-
Agree. We accept what people say.
-
When they are. Witnesses, but it's.
-
More important when God is a witness.
-
That's because it is what God says about his.
-
Son, the main. Goal of the Holy Spirit people
-
who are filled with the Spirit talk about.
-
Jesus, they don't talk men. The Holy.
-
Spirit testifies to the Son. He doesn't testify about
-
himself. He doesn't testify about.
-
You. He doesn't.
-
Testify about what you're doing. It all leads to Christ.
-
Everything about the Holy Spirit.
-
Is to illuminate. The son of.
-
God, it all leads to. Jesus and if you.
-
Look at your heart, the Bible says whatever.
-
Is comes out of your mouth is what's in your heart.
-
If you're angry, all the. Time.
-
Why are you angry? What's in your heart?
-
If you're saying like lustful. Things all the time.
-
What's in your? Heart, but let's get a.
-
Little bit deeper if you talk about yourself.
-
All the time What's in your heart if you talk.
-
About ministry all. The time, what's in your heart,
-
Anything that you talk about more than Christ is in your
-
heart. And the Holy?
-
Spirit is the. One who illuminates Christ, He.
-
His job is to show you the. Sun, we see this in.
-
Colossians, Chapter 1. The Supremacy.
Colossians 1 chapter mention
-
Of Christ Romans chapter 10 it all is about.
Romans 10 chapter mention
-
Jesus, then the last couple. Things the Holy Spirit leads.
-
Us to truth He. Illuminates his word so that.
-
We understand it, the Holy. Spirit leads.
-
Us into love. We're able to love like Christ.
-
We're able to love people that are unlovable because of the.
-
Spirit inside of us. And then the Holy Spirit leads
-
us into holiness. You.
-
Got to hate your sin. You got to fight.
-
That sin you got to battle against?
-
It the Holy Spirit leads. Us into a life of.
-
Holiness and then? Lastly, the Holy Spirit leads.
-
Us into usefulness, also known as obedience.
-
Man, you know I was. Talking with I know I'm over but
-
y'all just hang with me. I was talking with my brother.
-
William yesterday he cuts the. Grass at the church.
-
It was about 11:30. It's hot outside.
-
And we're just standing out there chopping it up.
-
And I was, I'm talking with him, He said something that stuck
-
with me because I asked. Him I was like.
-
Bro like you do this. And I mean, he don't even ask
-
for money. I mean, we, we try to help him
-
out, but he. And he's like, Ricky, this is,
-
this is what I do, this is. How I want to.
-
Serve the house see people with the spirit of.
-
God in them they're. Obedient to what?
-
God. Puts in their.
-
Heart so whether it is. Cutting the grass, whether
-
serving the homeless, whether it's teaching, whether it's
-
singing, whatever it is in your life, you're.
-
Obedient to what God has. Given you.
-
You are spirit filled. And I know our.
-
Culture has a weird view of the Holy Spirit.
-
But if you were obedient. To what?
-
God's. Called you to your spirit
-
filled. That's how he serves.
-
He's spirit filled however you serve.
-
That's how you obedience. Your spirit filled.
