  2. Build equipped and send. All under the Lordship of Jesus

  3. Christ. A small church plant in Fort

  4. Worth, TX. Who decided to do things a

  5. little differently? Adoramos, Ajesu Cristo.

  6. I love City Post because of the people.

  7. It's where I belong. We truly preach the Word.

  8. I love City Post because of the community we've been able to

  9. build. To do ministry like Jesus.

  10. For light to push back darkness. This is city post podcast.

  11. We're going to be in Matthew chapter 6.

    Matthew 6 chapter mention

  12. We're going to. Continue in our journey through.

  13. For the love of money now whenever I have friends coming

  14. in. From out of town.

  15. Or other countries. There's two places that I like

  16. to take them in Fort Worth. The 1st place I like to.

  17. Take them is La Gran Plaza. Because it's like, come get

  18. some. Culture.

  19. You know, like where? Else can you go and get a

  20. license A. Tag and a Taco.

  21. All in one location. It's it's I.

  22. Love that place I. Love just the environment, I

  23. love the diversity. There.

  24. But then the second place I like to take them is Texas Roadhouse.

  25. Yes. And I felt that.

  26. I felt that too. All right, so I.

  27. Love going to Texas Roadhouse some years.

  28. Ago there was a missionary. That we worked with in.

  29. Gujarat named Samson and he came to visit.

  30. Because he was. Going to move his family to

  31. Irving and. In the state that he lives in,

  32. in India, it's all vegetarian. So when he came into town, I was

  33. like, dude, I got. To get you a steak.

  34. Man like and. I don't want to drop a bag on

  35. it, so we go to Texas Roadhouse and.

  36. So we go to Roadhouse and this is new for Samson.

  37. So I was like. Man, just follow me.

  38. Don't worry about it. You get a 22 ounce Porterhouse,

  39. whatever you. Want you want the marbleization?

  40. In it for your foodies. You know what I'm talking about,

  41. but. Here's the thing with Texas

  42. Roadhouse. That a lot of people.

  43. Kind of know what it's for. So they sit you down and then

  44. what? You know what they put in front

  45. of you? The rolls.

  46. That's right, yeah. They sit you down, They're like,

  47. here you go. Boom.

  48. Like. Magic and so Samson.

  49. Is like, what is this? I'm like they're rolls.

  50. And they're. Free.

  51. You get as many rolls as you want, and they are delicious,

  52. right? They're like little.

  53. Drops of Heaven. Right in your table and not just

  54. the rolls. The butter?

  55. Yes Sir. Right, They put crack in it.

  56. And I'm joking, right? Somebody can like call him up.

  57. No, like, man, that butter, like they put some sugar in it, makes

  58. it even sweeter. And he's trying to be all

  59. polite. And I was like.

  60. Nah, dude, just. Dip the thing in.

  61. There you get your own. Butter.

  62. And he's eating these rolls, and then he has butter.

  63. And then he he wants. More and he just keeps on eating

  64. these. Little rolls of bread.

  65. And I'm like, dude. Slow your roll man, you still

  66. got this. 22 ounce quarter house coming and he doesn't care

  67. though, right? Because we're in Texas.

  68. You get as much as. You want And finally the steak

  69. comes out and we're hanging out. He.

  70. Takes some. Bites of the steak.

  71. And he is like. This is delicious.

  72. But then, after about the third or fourth bite, he starts.

  73. Kind of laughing to himself. And and then he looks at me and

  74. there's some that just, I remember what he said.

  75. He goes, man, Rick, I think I. Filled up on the wrong thing.

  76. I said yeah, you did. And for many of us.

  77. When when we read this passage, Jesus is going to.

  78. Address how we view our materialistic things, our our

  79. treasures in heaven. And what many of us do is that

  80. we fill up on the wrong thing. And how do we know that we fill

  81. up on the wrong thing? Because we find our treasure.

  82. In the wrong thing. It all bleeds out and there's a

  83. difference between access and appetite.

  84. And many. Of us have access to Jesus right

  85. we live in the Bible belt there's churches all over the

  86. place we have like YouTube we we have everything we.

  87. Need. Right in front of us.

  88. In our palm. But the question that I have

  89. for. Us as a church today.

  90. Is not if you have access to Christ?

  91. Do you have an appetite for Christ like do you want to know

  92. him? Do you want to pray to him?

  93. Do you want to read his word? Do you want to serve him?

  94. Do you want to love people like him?

  95. And listen, when you have an appetite for Jesus, the way that

  96. you view things in life come out differently.

  97. You don't look at things you don't you don't pursue the

  98. treasures of this world. If you have a.

  99. Strong appetite for Christ. But if you have a strong

  100. appetite for yourself. You pursue the treasures of this

  101. world. And Jesus is saying.

  102. No, it's not about. The treasures of this world.

  103. It's about accumulating. Treasures in heaven.

  104. That's the goal. That's the goal.

  105. That's what we reach into. And I believe that, I think.

  106. Sometimes the way that we view our money, the way that we.

  107. View our stuff. Has a lot to do.

  108. What we have an appetite for. And what we're filling.

  109. Ourselves with. So my.

  110. Question to you today is what do you have an appetite for?

  111. What are you living for? And what Gabe showed us last

  112. week, which he so brilliantly talked about, was, man.

  113. Like the way that you steward things are tied to the

  114. relationship. That you have with Christ.

  115. And if the stronger? Relationship that you have with.

  116. Jesus, the different type. Of outlook that you have and

  117. you're going to live differently.

  118. So the way that. You live.

  119. Shows the type of appetite you have, but also.

  120. The type of appetite you have. Shows what you're filling.

  121. Your life. With and then what?

  122. You fill your life. With shows how you view

  123. treasures and Jesus on the. Sermon of the Mount, Matthew

  124. chapter. 6 is going to address this, he's going to talk about

  125. it so. We're just going to look at a

  126. few verses and then we'll be done.

  127. We'll be out here. And then maybe we'll go to Tex.

  128. Roadhouse. Who knows Now it's like.

  129. A2 hour Wait. Crazy.

  130. All right. Look at verse 19.

  131. We're going to look at verse 19 and 20.

  132. Actually this. Should go through 21.

  133. This is what the. Word of the Lord says it says

  134. do. Not.

  135. Store up for yourself treasures. On.

  136. Earth where moths and vermin destroy.

  137. Where thieves? Break in and steal, but store up

  138. for yourself treasures in. Heaven where?

  139. Moths and vermin do not. Destroy and where thieves do not

  140. break in. And steal.

  141. And in verse 21. For where your treasure is,

  142. there your heart will also be man.

  143. This is one of the. Most clear cut pictures in

  144. scripture and what we're going to see here is Jesus.

  145. Is giving kind of like a little compare and contrast.

  146. He's doing this whole like do this but don't do this and

  147. here's the reason why. But then we're going to see

  148. another section of Scripture as he continues to teach us he's.

  149. Going to do the same exact. Thing but the thing with.

  150. Jesus is. Jesus is not only after the way

  151. that you view your material things, not that He's not only

  152. after the way that you see money.

  153. There's a deeper issue here because the people that look for

  154. treasures on this. World or in this world?

  155. There's something underlining that we have to address because

  156. Jesus always goes to the heart. Of things.

  157. So what is he telling us in verse 19?

  158. He's telling. Everybody's like, listen, do

  159. not, please don't do, he says. Look what it.

  160. Do not. It's an.

  161. Order. It's a derivative what we call

  162. in Scripture. It's a command.

  163. He's not giving advice. This is not a suggestion.

  164. Like when somebody tells me, like when it ices outside and

  165. like Ricky man, you should not run on the ice.

  166. In my mind like challenge. Accepted.

  167. I bet you I can. I bet you I won't.

  168. Fall that bad? What Jesus is saying?

  169. He's like no, no, no. He's like, don't.

  170. I don't want you to test this thing out.

  171. He's giving you a command. He's saying listen, do not store

  172. up for yourself treasures on Earth.

  173. Why? Because the stuff that you're

  174. going to. Accumulate the stuff that you're

  175. going to. Just just take in all that stuff

  176. is you're going to sit there and be useless.

  177. And the Bible says right here, it's like, man, that's where

  178. moths and vermin destroy it. So listen the stuff.

  179. That you accumulate the stuff. That you put all your hope in.

  180. It's either going to be wasteful and be eaten up and be thrown

  181. away, or it's somebody's going to take it.

  182. Either way, it's not going to serve for.

  183. Anything. So what Jesus is saying he's

  184. like, don't amass all this earthly wealth.

  185. It's useless. It does nothing.

  186. Instead, the stuff that you should amass should be for

  187. heaven. It should be for heavenly

  188. treasures, but store yourself verse 20.

  189. Treasures in heaven. Why?

  190. Because it's not going to go. To waste.

  191. Monster not going to eat it. It's not going to get destroyed.

  192. These are not going to break in and.

  193. Steal it and listen. To something I was thinking.

  194. About like people that. Amassed treasures in Earth.

  195. Live a life of frustration. And emptiness.

  196. Why? Because the things.

  197. That you are amassing and accumulating are not going to

  198. serve its purpose and potential. It's going to be.

  199. Eaten by moths. Or somebody's going to take it.

  200. Listen when you pass away from this Earth, when you die.

  201. All of your stuff is either going to go to a garage sale.

  202. Or end up on. Storage Wars.

  203. You can't take it with. You there's a saying.

  204. You never see a U-Haul behind a hearse.

  205. You can't take nothing with you. Like your kids just going to

  206. fight over it. So what Jesus is pointing?

  207. Out to he's like. Listen, don't store up all that.

  208. You know, and I'm. Doing some research that's

  209. looking at our our. The state of our country, it's

  210. really interesting. In in 1990.

  211. Two, there was a study that was done and I want to go to 90. 2

  212. because this. Is when like the dot?

  213. Com boom hit and and. People in the US, you know they.

  214. They're making a little bit more bank.

  215. And the question that Forbes asked was how much do you have

  216. to have in order to achieve? The American Dream.

  217. How much? And what was interesting, it

  218. says those who. Earn 20. 5000 or less a.

  219. Year said they would need around. 54,000 in order to

  220. achieve the American dream. Those who made 100,000.

  221. As an annual income. Bracket said they would.

  222. Need at least 190. 2000 in order to achieve the American.

  223. Dream. You know what?

  224. This tells us there's. Never going to be.

  225. Enough. No matter.

  226. Where you are in life, many of us think.

  227. If I just had a little bit. More.

  228. I would be fulfilled. I would be happy and I would be

  229. able. To get what I.

  230. Want. When the truth is maybe.

  231. If you just managed and steward what God gave you, then you

  232. would be happy and then you would be fulfilled and then you

  233. would be able to do things that. You want.

  234. The problem is that we mismanaged.

  235. We don't trust God with what He's blessed us with, so we make

  236. terrible financial decisions. We live lives with fist closed.

  237. And God can't bless that. The average American throws

  238. away. About 65.

  239. Pounds of clothes a year, one in every ten Americans.

  240. Rents an off site storage unit to store their stuff.

  241. There's over 50,000 storage. Facilities in the United States.

  242. That's a lot. I need to invest in that.

  243. They did an interview with David Rockefeller, you know, with the

  244. Rockefeller. Family, tons of money, oil, all

  245. that stuff, I mean. Dude is.

  246. Loaded for every, passed away in 20. 2017 and they asked him the.

  247. This. Question, they said.

  248. How? Much money is enough money.

  249. And his response? His reply was just a little bit

  250. more. And the truth is that no matter

  251. how much we make, no matter how. Much stuff we have no matter

  252. what we. Accumulate.

  253. We have that same attitude, it's just we just need a little bit

  254. more and we see that all through our culture.

  255. And then the stuff that we end up accumulate moths.

  256. Eat it. Actually, the text here where it

  257. talks about treasures, the the original languages talks about

  258. that there's an erosion, right? Like they're like even if you.

  259. Store gold and. Silver there is like that rust

  260. it starts to eat away at the meadows but when we talk about

  261. storing up treasures of. Earth and out of heaven.

  262. There's a deeper issue here. And I.

  263. Think This is why like a lot of our.

  264. Culture Why we prefer symbols of wealth rather than wealth.

  265. Itself, That's why we have super high car payments, but yet we're

  266. renting. That's why we have a lot of

  267. flash. And and expensive clothes and

  268. and all. These things to try to show off.

  269. We haven't built anything that lasts.

  270. We have it. Backwards and I and what what it

  271. really gets down to what our wealth what our.

  272. Stuff. What everything gets down to?

  273. Is contentment and Jesus points. This out he's like listen, don't

  274. store yourself treasures. In Earth, focus on treasures of

  275. heaven. Invest in the Kingdom.

  276. Here's why. Here's the bottom line.

  277. This is this is what he's getting at verse. 21.

  278. For where your treasure is, there your heart will also be.

  279. And we have and if we think about.

  280. This and I was like. Why?

  281. Why is it that we put so much emphasis?

  282. On earthly treasures, and it gets down to the heart and it

  283. gets. Down to ourselves.

  284. Why? Is it that I spend money I don't

  285. have to buy things I don't need? To impress people that don't

  286. care. About me and the reason is

  287. because I want people to like me.

  288. Then my question is why do you want?

  289. People to like you so bad. What is it in our?

  290. Hearts. That we want the adoration.

  291. Of man so. Bad that we're.

  292. Willing to turn our investments from treasures of heaven.

  293. To Earth just so that somebody could give me an applause or a

  294. like. And I'm reading.

  295. This I'm like, man, Jesus is getting to the.

  296. Heart of the issue because it's not about to stop.

  297. It's about the way that we view the Kingdom of God and the

  298. Kingdom of heaven. And he's.

  299. Calling it out right here and he comes to us with this conclusion

  300. the conclusion is that listen whatever you have in your heart

  301. is going to show out to people it's going to show you listen

  302. your. Treasure is going to show.

  303. Out with people and Jesus is not attacking materialism like our

  304. stuff. He's saying like, listen,

  305. materialism is in direct conflict to loyalty with God

  306. because in the next couple of verses he's going to even go.

  307. Deeper. He's going to say no.

  308. Your heart shows where your treasure is.

  309. So if your treasures in heaven, your heart's going to show that

  310. if your treasures. With the things of this world,

  311. your heart. 'S going to show.

  312. That. Either one.

  313. And when he's. Also getting that.

  314. Is that he is aligning. He's like you cannot do heaven.

  315. Treasures of heaven and treasures.

  316. Of Earth at the same time. You have to pick your.

  317. Heart cannot be aligned with both of them.

  318. Kind of a heavy. Statement right there, right?

  319. Romans. Chapter 1 says it like this.

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  320. You rather worship the. Creation than the creator.

  321. And that's what it's showing us. We can't.

  322. Store up treasure here on. Earth and on.

  323. Heaven at the same exact. Time.

  324. Jesus is going to push against that and that is the conclusion.

  325. That he comes out with, He said. You have your treasure in your

  326. heart in one place. You can't store up treasure in

  327. earth and in heaven at the same exact time.

  328. You must choose which one you will invest.

  329. In period. It's kind of a hard teaching

  330. because some of us are like, well, Ricky, like, you know,

  331. that's kind of. I could do.

  332. Both no you can't and. We're going to see here why.

  333. Jesus is going to address. That So let's look at the next

  334. couple of verses because this is pretty cool.

  335. Look at the next verse, verse 22 through. 23 now.

  336. He talks about like. Think about the compare

  337. contrast. Right.

  338. He's like. Do not stalk treasures.

  339. On Earth. Because that stuff is useless.

  340. It's going to go away. Monster can eat it, right?

  341. Then, but instead of this, stalk the treasures in heaven, right

  342. that that's. Going to be for all eternity and

  343. the reason why you do. That is because wherever your

  344. treasure is your heart. Is as well.

  345. We're going to see that. Now.

  346. He's going to give some examples.

  347. He's going to go a little bit. Deeper, right?

  348. He's going to look like like this.

  349. Decision making. Our choices are not.

  350. Just a materialistic issue. Our choices is a heart issue.

  351. It's a holistic issue. Look at verse 22.

  352. The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your

  353. whole body will be full of light.

  354. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of

  355. darkness. If then the light within you is.

  356. Darkness. How great is that?

  357. Darkness. What Jesus did here is.

  358. Brilliant all. Right, let's geek out.

  359. For just one second can. We geek out a little bit.

  360. All right, so listen in Hebrew. Right, this is a Hebrew.

  361. Idiom. This is the latest favorite.

  362. Word right now I. Told her I was like.

  363. Elena, we're going to talk. About idioms tomorrow and then?

  364. I asked. Her I was like, Elena, can you

  365. give me an example? Of an idiom.

  366. And she goes, yeah. Spill the beans.

  367. And I was like, you so smart girl, right?

  368. So an idiom is something like like, like, that's a great

  369. example. Like I'm so hungry if they eat a

  370. horse. I feel like the weight of the.

  371. World's on my shoulders. So in Hebrew this is actually.

  372. Jesus is using a Hebrew. Idiom of the.

  373. Culture so go ahead and put that slide up so I could just I just

  374. want to walk through this with us when we talk about idioms

  375. Jesus here is. Talking about the good eye.

  376. So. In Hebrew when you read this in

  377. its original text when he talks about.

  378. The eye, healthy eyes or. A better translation is The good

  379. Eye. The way you say it in Hebrew is

  380. Ian havat. So Ian havat means that you have

  381. a a good. Eye.

  382. So when? Somebody in the culture, says

  383. Ian Havat. It means that you have a good.

  384. Perspective of life. You're very positive, you're

  385. very like cup half fool. The way that you view life is

  386. really. Good, but on the flip side of

  387. that, if you have a bad. Eye, they say.

  388. Yvonne. He's Yvonne.

  389. Right there. These are idioms in the Hebrew.

  390. Language in this time. They say it all the.

  391. Time. So if you are a very positive

  392. person, if something goes wrong but yet you are solution minded

  393. or you, you tend to just be happy in those.

  394. In that sense you are Yvonne. But if you are a negative Nancy.

  395. And you always look at things with the cup half empty and

  396. you're always talking about things in a negative light.

  397. You are Yvonne Hurrah. And guys, it's an idiom that.

  398. They would always say this so if you have a negative.

  399. Viewpoint on stuff. Here I'll give you an.

  400. Example so if somebody. Has a swimming pool.

  401. And I. Look at their swimming pool and

  402. I'm like, man, I can't man, it's going to be.

  403. Awesome. The kids are going to be able to

  404. use it. It's going to be great.

  405. That's Yvonne. Hurrah.

  406. I mean, that's Yvonne Hava. But if I'm in a negative eye and

  407. I'm like. You have a swimming pool?

  408. Oh my gosh. People are going to drown.

  409. Someone's going to fall in it. Insurance is going to take.

  410. It all like. Dude, you're going to be charged

  411. with. Murder.

  412. You have to. Clean the young, expensive

  413. swimming. Pools are.

  414. That's Yvonne Hara. It describes.

  415. A person, now what? Jesus does here is brilliant.

  416. Why? Because he's talking about

  417. treasures, he's talking about materialism, he's talking about.

  418. Stuff. So because he puts the subject

  419. first, he ties the idiom to the treasure piece.

  420. So you say, listen, if you have a good eye, if your eyes are

  421. healthy, if you are Yvonne Hava when it comes to.

  422. Seeing the treasures of heaven. That means.

  423. That the way that. You see, this is optimistic.

  424. You have a. Good.

  425. Perspective of God the Father. You see Him as the source of

  426. every good and perfect gift. All blessings come from God.

  427. God is the giver. Of all, we are only.

  428. The ones that Stewart. God is generous and because you

  429. have a good eye. What verse 22 says?

  430. Means that your whole. Body will be.

  431. Full of light. So I don't just see the outpost

  432. of it all, I don't see the outcomes of it all.

  433. Because I have a good. Eye it it impacts my holistic

  434. self so I just don't see things that the way that God.

  435. Has it now. I'm like, I see the goodness of

  436. God and I want to mimic. It because of my perspective.

  437. And because my perspective changes, my purpose changes, and

  438. when my purpose changes and it aligns with the purposes of God.

  439. I act out on it, so that means that my stuff is no longer mine

  440. now. Whenever I get stuff.

  441. It's not like mine mine mine mine no, it's.

  442. Lord, you have given this to me. How can I bless?

  443. You with it? What can I?

  444. Do to build Kingdom. With it, who needs it?

  445. It's not mine, it's all. Yours.

  446. Yvonne Kharva Jesus is talking about this, but on the flip side

  447. of it. If you have a bad eye.

  448. He says in verse 22. I mean verse 23.

  449. If your eyes are unhealthy, that means like the whole body's

  450. going to be full of darkness. And if.

  451. Then the light. Within you is darkness.

  452. How great of a darkness is that? Like if you're if your.

  453. View of your perspective is. Wrong.

  454. And you're storing. Up treasures of Earth there's.

  455. Nothing that you can do. There's not a light that will

  456. cause you to see. It's impossible, so that means

  457. that you align. With things that are.

  458. Opposite you see life through this terrible lens.

  459. You don't see God as a source of blessing.

  460. You don't see that God is the one that's giving you

  461. everything. It's all about you doing it and

  462. yourself doing it. You have the wrong.

  463. Perspective. And when you have a wrong

  464. perspective, you become greedy and stingy and you don't want to

  465. let things go. So you.

  466. Live a life unfulfilled and frustrated because nothing is

  467. ever enough and I need to please.

  468. People instead of pleasing God. And that sends you.

  469. Deeper and deeper. Not just in debt, but.

  470. Deeper and deeper into attaining.

  471. Stuff. That you think is going to

  472. satisfy you access versus appetite you're.

  473. Eating the wrong things. And.

  474. Jesus is like man if. You would just trust me.

  475. I see God as generous and and because I see God as generous, I

  476. too will be generous. But if I don't see.

  477. God as generous, therefore I will become.

  478. Not generous I will become. Materialistic I will be.

  479. Miserable I will be a selfish Christian and.

  480. Check this out. I'm going to justify my sin.

  481. By saying this is just. One area of my life.

  482. That I need to control. I give God everything else.

  483. But when it comes to my money, when it comes to my.

  484. Stuff like that's. Mine, Ricky, you don't know.

  485. How I grew up. I grew up with nothing.

  486. So I'm going to try to get my stuff with something that's the

  487. wrong viewpoint now. Jesus, look what he does here.

  488. This is crazy, right? So this is kind of the attitude

  489. that we have. It's just one area of my life.

  490. And. Jesus is like no listen.

  491. If that is your viewpoint you played.

  492. Yourself. I don't have to say it.

  493. Look at verse 24. Look what Jesus does.

  494. Jesus drops the hammer here verse 24.

  495. No one can serve 2 masters. Period.

  496. That means that you. Cannot withhold something and

  497. say. Yes to God in some things and

  498. say. No to him and others.

  499. You cannot serve 2 masters. You're going to have to make a.

  500. Decision. It's either treasures of heaven

  501. or treasures. Of Earth.

  502. It's either a good eye or the bad eye.

  503. You can't turn both. And Jesus is pulling this, he

  504. says. Either you.

  505. Will look what we say. Heed the text.

  506. Heed the advice. Either you will have hate, you

  507. will hate the one or love the other, or you will be devoted to

  508. 1. And despise the other you.

  509. Cannot both serve God? And money.

  510. So when you are choosing and when you are flip flopping and

  511. when you are and you and and when you're just like limping

  512. back and forth, what's going to happen in life is you are going

  513. to put in a position. Where you have to choose.

  514. And you're either going to. Hate one and love.

  515. The other you're going to. Despise 1 and despise the.

  516. Other and as I'm reading. This I started thinking like.

  517. Man, you know. There's so many people that talk

  518. about. Deconstruction and like church.

  519. Hate and hurt and stuff like. That and I'm starting.

  520. To wonder maybe if you choose an allegiance because going back

  521. and forth you're going to start hating one side because.

  522. You love the other side so much and guys like you have to decide

  523. which one is it. Which one is it?

  524. That you are going to choose today.

  525. Now it. Says either you then look.

  526. Look how. It ends in verse 24.

  527. You. Cannot serve both God and money.

  528. Another translation of. Scripture says you cannot.

  529. Both serve God and Mammon and in.

  530. Luke. He uses Mammon.

  531. Mammon is. Pretty.

  532. Much a it was a. False idol false God that talked

  533. about giving earthly material treasures anything that provides

  534. for you pretty. Much and Jesus is saying.

  535. You you can't do that. It's simply impossible and if

  536. you think you could successfully serve 2 masters.

  537. You have deceived yourself. You can't so.

  538. You can't do it. So what I'm going to do, I just

  539. want to end with a few thoughts for today.

  540. Jesus is very clear about this. It's a hard teaching, but I

  541. think that there's. Freedom in it.

  542. I think there's a freedom in this.

  543. So that's just. Three quick things and then

  544. we're out of here. Number one, what can?

  545. We learn from this passage. This is the way you live your

  546. life. Actually shows where your

  547. treasure lies. Simple.

  548. You want to know what you love, you want.

  549. To know what you're passionate about, take out your bank.

  550. Statements and start looking through where your money's

  551. going. See where things?

  552. Are going and. You're going to start seeing

  553. what your love and passionate about.

  554. You know, what I love about this text is that Jesus is very

  555. clear. Cut This is a sermon on the

  556. Mount, so. He's he's preaching to thousands

  557. of people, even his disciples, and he's.

  558. And he's telling them he's like, man, don't waste your time

  559. stirring up treasures on Earth. Why would you say that?

  560. Because I'm pretty. Sure, there's others.

  561. That would come to him. Like the rich young ruler.

  562. And say I want to. Follow you and he's like well go

  563. sell all your stuff. Give it to the poor then.

  564. Come follow me. And he's like, I can't do that.

  565. It's really easy to say things, but what he's saying is that

  566. where your heart is, your treasure is there as well.

  567. So as you live your life. As a Christian like.

  568. As you live your life as a believer in Christ, it's really.

  569. Easy to see it it. Bleeds.

  570. Through. Your treasure is going to.

  571. Show to the whole world what it is and listen.

  572. And if your. Appetite is not Christ.

  573. If your appetite. What you want to consume?

  574. If it's not Jesus, then. Other things are going to bleed

  575. out to the. World and they're going to be

  576. like that's that's supposed to be what what what Jesus is

  577. right. Like, no, it's, it's not.

  578. It's there's a confusion there. And the confusion comes because

  579. you're trying to serve 2 masters, which is impossible.

  580. You can't do that. So if you want to live your

  581. life, we could easily see where your treasure lies.

  582. We see it because it bleeds through the.

  583. Heart and remember. What you feed grows, so whatever

  584. you're feeding, you're fighting with.

  585. Sin and I know many of us. We talk.

  586. About this Like man Ricky, how do I fight?

  587. My sin. I'm addicted to this like how do

  588. I stop viewing pornography? How do I?

  589. Stop with my addictions. How do I stop just I just feel.

  590. Angry all the time. Think about what you're feeding

  591. when you feed the flesh that that's going to grow.

  592. But listen if you feed the Spirit.

  593. You spend time in this word, time in prayer.

  594. Time in worship, surround yourself, then that's going to

  595. begin to grow as well. That's going to begin to grow

  596. and the sin is going to get. Smaller and smaller and smaller.

  597. And then remember you have to be devoted to 1 and despise the

  598. other the. Question is how do you fight?

  599. Sin you get to the point. Where you hate it.

  600. So I can't. Stand it no more.

  601. I'm. Angry at it I despise.

  602. That sin because the other one has grown so #2 something about

  603. money that we can learn from this.

  604. Don't serve money. Listen, money is a great

  605. servant. But a terrible master don't

  606. serve money right. Let money serve the Lord, and

  607. then it will serve. You.

  608. Guys, when it comes to these biblical.

  609. Principles when we talk about. Finances when we talk about

  610. materialistic things. You got to, you got to put the

  611. Lord in it first, and whenever you give it to the Lord.

  612. First, whenever you seek the. Lord first, when you give to

  613. Him, what's His? 1st when you serve.

  614. The Lord with your money. Then then your money will come

  615. and it will serve you back because God will allow that to

  616. happen. You have to be able to give it

  617. to him. 1st and then the third one and we'll end with.

  618. This Jesus is the Lord of everything.

  619. Or nothing at all. Man, that.

  620. Was difficult. But not really.

  621. It makes total. Sense What Jesus requires is

  622. total. Allegiance and he's.

  623. Either the Lord of every single aspect of your life or.

  624. He's not Lord of anything at all, even your finances, even

  625. your. Stuff Jesus says you can't

  626. serve. 2:00 You got to pick one. There is no back and.

  627. Forth, you've got to pick. What are you feeding your

  628. appetites? With what are you hungry?

  629. And then that's my challenge. To us as a church.

  630. As something that I could not get out of my head was this

  631. whole idea of. Access versus.

  632. Appetite. I don't know why the Lord.

  633. Has this like the Holy Spirit just put this in me?

  634. It's like, man, I want to. Challenge us like what is your

  635. appetite for Jesus look like? Like, do you love him?

  636. Do you want to pursue him? Do you want to serve him?

  637. Like do you say you know what, God?

  638. Whatever it is that you want me to do, I'm going to do it.

  639. It sounds crazy. I'm going to do it.

  640. It's uncomfortable, but I'm going to do it.

  641. I'm going to follow your word. I'm.

  642. Going to do it as we close. I know some of y'all are

  643. thinking. About it did Samson.

  644. Finish his steak and. It was 22 oz when?

  645. Ricky said he took four bites. I mean what?

  646. Did he do with it? Did he really finish his steak?

  647. Now he took it home though. But the reason why he couldn't

  648. finish it was because. He ate way too much bread.

  649. And my challenge? To you as a church today.

  650. Is eat way too much bread? John 648 Jesus says.

  651. I. Am the bread of life.

  652. Listen, if you eat of this bread that's from heaven, you will

  653. never hunger again. When you.

  654. Fill your life with treasures of this earth you're.

  655. Eating empty. Carbs you're going to be.

  656. Full and satisfied for just one moment.

  657. And. Then you're going to be hungry.

  658. Again, looking and pursuing for the next best.

  659. Thing and then you're going to start storing.

  660. Yourself up, treasures of earth. In order for you to get the

  661. applause of man and for people to like you, when really what

  662. your heart is saying is that I'm hungry.

  663. But if you eat the bread of life, if your appetite is for

  664. Christ, if you consume him. If you're constantly in his

  665. word, if you're chased after him, listen this bread when you

  666. feed him. Your appetite with it for your.

  667. Soul, you will never be hungry. Again and.

  668. When depression starts to creep in and when your.

  669. Anxiety hits. And when all these thoughts and

  670. angers and hurts and pains start coming through and, and and you

  671. want to. Fill.

  672. Yourself with something in order to stop those hunger.

  673. Pains, Jesus says I'm the. Bread of life if you consume.

  674. Me if you fill your appetite with me.

  675. Ian, have a you have. A good eye and you're going to

  676. see the light. It's going to consume your whole

  677. body and your perspective is going to change.

  678. And your outlook is going to change.

  679. And when these things start creeping in your life, because

  680. I'll be, I'll be real with you. Let's just let's just be honest

  681. here. Just become you.

  682. Come to Jesus. Don't mean your life gets.

  683. Easy things just don't disappear.

  684. He's not a genie. You're still going to fight with

  685. sin. You're going to still have your

  686. sinful nature. But when those things start

  687. creeping in. You have the bread of.

  688. Life you're like, you know what man?

  689. I am not. I'm hungry for that.

  690. Because I have consumed Christ. I have eaten him, I have taken

  691. him in. Oh, and what I love about the

  692. end of Matthew 6, because. He also talks about man, you

  693. know what? When you talk about treasures,

  694. don't worry about tomorrow. Oh, there's a peace that came

  695. with that. Matthew 633 What does he say?

  696. But see first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and

  697. everything will be given to you as well.

  698. Listen, when you when your appetite is Christ, you don't

  699. only just. Fulfill your life.

  700. With the good things, you don't only just build treasures in

  701. heaven. But there's a peace about.

  702. Knowing who has your life so when I'm.

  703. Concerned when I'm worried. When all this stuff I said, man,

  704. God's got me Jesus. Has me the bread of life.

  705. I don't have to worry because if I seek first his.

  706. Kingdom and righteousness. Everything will be.

  707. Given to me as well. He's going to take care of me.

  708. Submit to the Lordship of Jesus Christ today.

  709. What? I'm going to say is going to get

  710. me in trouble. I'm going to say it anyway.

  711. I think one of the biggest misconceptions of our therapy

  712. culture is this whole idea about submission, because what I read

  713. here when I read his word, yes, life is difficult.

  714. Yes, there's some trauma. I got to work.

  715. Through yes, there's some. Things that happened in my life

  716. that I, I'm trying, I'm trying to figure it out.

  717. Let let see. Somebody talk to somebody.

  718. Well, Jesus. Say listen man, if if.

  719. If you just take the bread of life, if you stop.

  720. Serving 2 masters if you just focus on treasures of heaven,

  721. I'm going to take care. Of you, you're going to be

  722. filled. I'm going to walk with you.

  723. It's going to fill your heart and your life.

  724. It's going to be great. I think maybe, just maybe, if we

  725. stop serving or try to serve. 2 masters, you might feel better.

  726. So what I want to do is, man, we're going to pray.

  727. And as we worship. We're going to have some

  728. brothers and sisters the the front.

  729. Corners if you want somebody. To pray with you.

  730. Ma'am, please don't leave here today without that we.

  731. Want to pray with? You.

  732. It's just nobody's. Going to be taking a pic.

  733. It's going to. Be fun if you want to come to

  734. the altar. Whatever it is, I'll be in the

  735. front too if you. Want to come pray?

  736. I'll love. To pray with you.

  737. But don't leave here today. Don't leave here today hungry.

  738. Have the bread of life. We pray for you so.

  739. Father, we love you. And we thank you so much.

  740. For what you've done for us, Jesus, I pray, Lord, that if

  741. there's anybody in this room, Lord, who is struggling, God,

  742. whose? Soul is hungry, Father.

  743. For whatever it is, Lord, whether it's hurt, acceptance,

  744. addictions, whatever it is, God, I pray that your spirit come.

  745. Down on them right now. And that they see the beauty of

  746. Christ and they see that you are the bread of life, Father.

  747. And that they see that you're the one that takes care of us

  748. and that you love us so much that.

  749. You want to see us? Be well and thrive and Lord, you

  750. want to see the forgiveness of sin to have a relationship.

  751. With. Us So Jesus, I pray, Father,

  752. that you help. Us not to.

  753. Accumulate earthly treasures, Lord, but to accumulate

  754. treasures in heaven. Lord Jesus, we love you and we

  755. pray all these things in. Your holy and matchless name.

  756. Amen. Let's stand and worship.

  757. Together.
