  2. Build equipped and send. All under the Lordship.

  3. Of Jesus Christ, a small church plant in Fort Worth, TX.

  4. Who decided to do things a little differently?

  5. Adoramos, Ajesu Cristo. I love City Post because of the

  6. people. It's where I belong.

  7. We truly preach the word. I love City Post because of the

  8. community we've been able to build.

  9. To do ministry. Like Jesus for light to push.

  10. Back darkness. This.

  11. Is City Post podcast. So Jesus, we.

  12. Love you and we praise you. For such a beautiful.

  13. Day. Amen all.

  14. Right, so let's go Luke chapter 12 and.

    Luke 12 chapter mention

  15. We're starting verse 13. I'll read a few.

  16. Verses. And then let's talk about it.

  17. So starting on verse 13, it says someone in the crowd said to

  18. him, teacher tell my. Brother to divide.

  19. The inheritance with me. Jesus.

  20. Replied man who appointed me a judge or an.

  21. Arbitrator. Between you all right.

  22. We got to stop right there. All right, so Jesus.

  23. Is if you read Luke 12, Jesus is giving.

  24. Like one of the. Richest Teachings.

  25. And he's talking to everyone and and he's telling.

  26. Everybody about why it's so important, why it's so.

  27. Important to stand for. Christ.

  28. And, and, and if you just read it on your own time, it's it's

  29. incredible. And then something odd happens.

  30. It's it's almost like an oddball question that has nothing to.

  31. Do with what Jesus talked about. And he's saying, man, if you

  32. deny me here on this earth, then I will deny you in heaven.

  33. If you stand for me in this Earth, I'm going to stand for

  34. you. And I will be with you.

  35. It's just this. Rich teaching and then out of

  36. nowhere. Out of the crowd.

  37. Someone yells out teacher tell my brother to divide the

  38. inheritance with me. That's just a little.

  39. Bit off. And even to the point as I.

  40. Read this. It's almost like a little bit.

  41. Disrespectful. Like put some.

  42. Respect on my. Name like you know I am like.

  43. Like, it's almost like. Teacher like just yelling.

  44. It out and that's what I want to point out if you.

  45. Look at the text. Someone in the crowd.

  46. So we don't know who this man was.

  47. We don't know where he's from. We don't know what.

  48. He's asking, but. We have some context.

  49. Clues here. Based on the question that.

  50. He asks Christ, so he says. Teacher, so he knows.

  51. That Jesus is. Is a good teacher.

  52. He must have been following him around.

  53. He must have heard what he said in the past.

  54. Or what he just said in Luke 12. And then he says tell my.

  55. Brother to divide. The inheritance with me.

  56. So. What we do know?

  57. Is that there is. Something with inheritance and

  58. families. If you look at.

  59. Deuteronomy 2117 it talks. About that the first born.

  60. Gets a double portion and then the second born and the.

  61. Third born they get. A percentage so this.

  62. Is this is very cultural here and he wants Jesus to take his

  63. side? In this financial.

  64. Dispute and look how he asks. He doesn't say Jesus.

  65. Like I want you to hear both. Sides or Jesus, tell me what's

  66. wise. No, he is being demanding and

  67. very privileged right now for you to interrupt.

  68. The savior of the world, if you could.

  69. Ask him anything. What you're going to bring to

  70. him is. Your issue.

  71. And not even ask him about what? Wisdom to use, you're going to

  72. demand. Like I want you to take my side

  73. in this. And this is where Christ kind of

  74. looks at him and says that's not how this.

  75. Works he. Says tell my brother So what?

  76. We do know, maybe. This guy.

  77. Was the younger brother. Cause the eldest probably.

  78. Got the inheritance and he's complaining.

  79. About it maybe you get away with.

  80. It but look how Jesus. Responds.

  81. I think man, you could. Do a whole sermon on 14.

  82. Jesus replied man. Who appointed me a judge or an

  83. arbitrator between you? So man, for me that pulls me.

  84. Because this guy think about all the people that sought out

  85. Jesus. And.

  86. Jesus looks at this. Guy and he calls a man.

  87. He doesn't. Call him his name.

  88. He doesn't. Call him son or he.

  89. He doesn't call him. He says man.

  90. And what that signifies is that. This was a stranger to Christ,

  91. but. Isn't it interesting?

  92. Wasn't. Zacchaeus a stranger, but

  93. because he wanted to see Jesus, he climbed a tree and Jesus.

  94. Saw him and said Zacchaeus, I'm coming.

  95. He didn't say, man, I'm going to your house.

  96. The woman that the issue. Of blood like.

  97. Like. She grabbed his cloak.

  98. And he turns around and he says, what?

  99. Like he looks right at her, he identifies her.

  100. What is it about this guy where he looks?

  101. At him, he's like, what do you want?

  102. Man, he didn't call. Him.

  103. His name? He's not a disciple.

  104. He's he's not a. Follower of Christ.

  105. He's not a Pharisee. See, The thing is.

  106. The Bible. Is very clear.

  107. That when you see. Christ.

  108. You don't find him. And what?

  109. This man was doing. He wasn't seeking.

  110. Christ for Christ. He was.

  111. Seeking Christ for himself. He wanted stuff he wanted to

  112. use. Jesus for his.

  113. Own personal gain and news. Flash this is.

  114. God in the flesh. He's the savior of the world.

  115. That's not going to. That's not going to work.

  116. So Jesus looks at him. And he's like, man.

  117. Who? Appointed me a judge.

  118. Who do you think this is? People's Court Judge Joe.

  119. Brown. Sal de parejas.

  120. That lady's so mean. I'm just saying I don't know

  121. anyway. Like what do you like what do

  122. you? Think this is and listen the

  123. rhetorical question. That Jesus gives like this, this

  124. emphatic refusal. To answer him and listen.

  125. It's not. Because the request.

  126. Of the man. Is outside of the.

  127. Sovereignty and authority of. Christ it's because it's outside

  128. of his redemptive purposes this has.

  129. Nothing to. Do with what Jesus came here

  130. for. Jesus did not come to bring

  131. property to man, He came to bring God to man.

  132. And he reads it. He sees exactly where this guy

  133. is. Going So what?

  134. Jesus. Does here is that he?

  135. Understands what the man is asking, and he understands the

  136. posture of his. Heart so he's going to use this

  137. as a. Teachable moment for his.

  138. Disciples and all those. Around him and for us.

  139. He's going to use it as a teachable moment, so.

  140. Look at verse 15. I like to think of Mystical

  141. Watch. Self like that's.

  142. Kind of how it translates, it's an.

  143. Emphatic like, like he's, he's kind of like.

  144. Watch out. He says watch out, it's a.

  145. Stern warning, he's driving that point.

  146. He's saying watch out and then he uses military language.

  147. It's the same language that when you read the the.

  148. Hebrew or the Greek? In the New Testament, it's the

  149. same words that Paul uses all the time.

  150. Be. On your what guard?

  151. Be on your guard. Jesus says watch yourself.

  152. Be on your guard. Why does he have?

  153. To be on your guard the military language the term be on your

  154. guard it means to defend yourself against a.

  155. Threat or attack? Of the enemy.

  156. So you say. Listen, I need you to watch

  157. yourself be on your guard. Be aware that the.

  158. Enemy's going to use this to attack.

  159. Be. On like get ready.

  160. For what he tells you right in the text.

  161. Against all. Kinds of greed.

  162. Another translation might say Covenant.

  163. Covetousness. God takes covetousness, so.

  164. Seriously. That he puts.

  165. It in the 10 commandments thou shalt not covet.

  166. Jesus is issuing this serious warning here.

  167. And covetousness is more than envy or jealousy.

  168. It's something worse. And I like the NIVI mean.

  169. It's greed, so go and put. Up the definition of

  170. covetousness. Because I.

  171. Like this is something I learned in Bible study on Wednesday in

  172. Colossians. Colossians 3, five.

  173. It's pretty much what Paul is saying.

  174. Covetousness. It's.

  175. Thing worship. It.

  176. Leads greed and coveted it Leads.

  177. To idolatry, it's the worship of stuff.

  178. To the. Point where you will do.

  179. Anything to? Get what you need to define

  180. greed. Greed is an intense and.

  181. Selfish desire. For something, especially

  182. wealth. Power or food covetousness?

  183. Is exercising like this excessive?

  184. Desire for something. Other that that the.

  185. Person has so when I'm looking at what somebody.

  186. Has I have this? Strong desire.

  187. To have that. Same exact thing.

  188. Whether it's wealth, whether it's.

  189. Positions whether it's status. Whatever it is, I.

  190. Want what they have to the point where it becomes sinful.

  191. And I'm willing to give. Up and do anything.

  192. It is thing worship. The problem with this is in the

  193. text he says I want you to. Watch yourself.

  194. Be on. Guard protect Get ready for the.

  195. Threat against what? All kinds of greed.

  196. Why? Because life, and this is in

  197. verse 15. Life does not consist in an

  198. abundance of. Possessions.

  199. What Jesus is saying is like when we.

  200. Fall. Into covenantess or greed?

  201. It is the the. Wrong definition of life.

  202. We are called. Human beings.

  203. Not human Havers our. Life is not made.

  204. To gather things up and find our identity and anything else.

  205. That's not Christ. You are more than what?

  206. You have. You are more than your.

  207. Job you are. More than your position.

  208. You are more than where you graduated from.

  209. You are more than where you. Live you are you.

  210. Are more than who you know you are more than all these things

  211. your life does not is not considered based on what you.

  212. Have. And what?

  213. This does. Is it like I said it?

  214. Causes this faulty definition. Of.

  215. Life, it causes us to be confused.

  216. With the. Blessings of God versus.

  217. The things that pull us away from God.

  218. And we reach for. Those So what Jesus does here is

  219. he's. Pretty much saying fight

  220. materialism at all costs, fight it now.

  221. Things are not bad the. Problem is is that.

  222. When your heart aligns with the things of this.

  223. World. When your.

  224. Heart aligns with materialism to the point.

  225. That you rather have. These things other than the.

  226. Relationship with Jesus, that's the issue.

  227. It's a heart issue with Christ he always talks about.

  228. This and Jesus. Is going to use this as a.

  229. Teaching moment. So he's about to show us a

  230. parable here. And to paraphrase this parable,

  231. he's pretty much saying you cannot live for God and live for

  232. greed. You can't do both.

  233. It's. Impossible.

  234. So this parable is called the Rich Fool.

  235. This is the. Parable that Jesus is going to

  236. teach us, we're going to walk through.

  237. This thing. Why the rich fool?

  238. Well, it's because he had a bad. Solution for a good.

  239. Problem kind of weird. So the rich fool has a, has a,

  240. has a good. Problem that we're going to.

  241. See but. His solution to his problem is

  242. terrible. And it kind of aligns with.

  243. A lot of. What we do here?

  244. So let's start with the good. Problem.

  245. Look at verse 16 and this is. What it says?

  246. And he told. Them this parable, this is a

  247. teaching of Christ. The ground of a certain rich man

  248. yielded an abundant harvest. And he thought to.

  249. Himself What shall I do? I have no place to store my.

  250. Crops. All right, so what's a good?

  251. Problem for this guy. Well, his field like he had a

  252. great harvest. That's a good problem to have.

  253. He got a lot more than what he anticipated.

  254. He probably worked hard. He probably.

  255. Did what he was supposed to, but what I love.

  256. About this story and don't miss. This Jesus does not.

  257. Give the rich man props for him giving the harvest.

  258. Remember Psalms 20? 4 The earth is the law.

  259. And everything in it. It was God who.

  260. Blessed. This man.

  261. With his fields it. Wasn't him, It wasn't.

  262. Anything that he did, it was the Lord.

  263. He did the work. But God blessed him.

  264. With it, it was. Abundant.

  265. He gave him an abundant. Harvest This is awesome.

  266. But then the problem is, is that it was too much.

  267. He got way too much stuff. What do I do?

  268. With it, and then we're going to look at problem, the good

  269. problem number. Two look what it.

  270. Says in verse, he thought to himself, what shall I do?

  271. I have no place to store my crops, so problem number one was

  272. that he got too much problem #2 is that he had limited space.

  273. That don't seem. Like that bad for us, huh?

  274. But it's how he. Saw everything.

  275. Because the truth is that God blessed him, but because.

  276. He was so in love. With what he had.

  277. That blessing now became a curse.

  278. Now he's trying to figure out how do I manage?

  279. All of this all. Of this is mine.

  280. All look what I got. I don't even have room for

  281. everything. I have he's.

  282. Forgetting and listen. Proverbs 10/22 The blessing of

  283. the Lord makes a man rich, and he adds no.

  284. Sorrow to it. So what?

  285. The Bible. Is saying is.

  286. Good for you, you got all this stuff, but what does all this

  287. stuff matter if you can't even? Sleep at night.

  288. Jesus says it this way. What?

  289. Does it mean for you to gain? The whole world and lose your

  290. soul. And the blessings of God.

  291. When God blesses you with something, you know what comes

  292. with that blessing. Peace.

  293. And sometimes when we think that God is blessing us with stuff

  294. and we don't rely on God or we don't lie on.

  295. Christ to manage it, you don't get peace, you get.

  296. Worry, you get anxiety, you start freaking out a little bit

  297. like. What am I going to do with all

  298. of this? And listen this man.

  299. He could have helped the poor. He could.

  300. Help the needy he could have done.

  301. So many things and. Still would have been.

  302. Rich. But what does he do instead?

  303. He starts thinking, How do I? Keep all this.

  304. Stuff to myself. So look at the.

  305. Solution SO. This man, what he?

  306. Does is that he goes to his board of advisors, his executive

  307. board, his favorite people. To help himself make decisions.

  308. You know who his board of advisors are?

  309. Me, myself and I. Look at the text.

  310. Look at verse 18. So he's like, I need to do, we

  311. got to do a. Construction project.

  312. Let me bring some people around me to help.

  313. Build this thing. All right, let me talk to

  314. myself. Look what it.

  315. Says then he said, This is what I'll do.

  316. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones there and

  317. there. I will.

  318. Store up my surplus. Look at all the.

  319. Personal pronouns. He's pointed to himself the

  320. whole time, and I know. That we're a culture.

  321. That loves some pronouns. Except here.

  322. Except when you realized your stuff, you're like, oh, oh.

  323. What do you identify? With I mean my, I mean I.

  324. Just like what he's saying, like he's like I need.

  325. To talk to myself. About this.

  326. I need to tear my barns down and my grains and my.

  327. Goods and and I I. I you see, the problem was that

  328. he forgot. Who was the?

  329. One that made his fields abundant.

  330. The Lord was. The one who blessed it, the Lord

  331. was. The one who?

  332. Who allowed his? Fields to grow.

  333. And when he saw the abundance. Of it and remember.

  334. We talked about this. You cannot.

  335. Serve the Lord with tight fists. You got to.

  336. Do it open hands so that. Way he could just.

  337. Continue to bless. Through us and use.

  338. Us for his glory and for his Kingdom.

  339. And what this man does, he's like.

  340. Instead of opening his hands, he's like, How do I close?

  341. Them. How do I build bigger?

  342. Barns, the man's blessing became a curse.

  343. Because of his self. Centeredness, he started

  344. thinking of only about himself and that.

  345. Was where the issue was. How do I?

  346. And then this is even. Crazier, he doesn't say.

  347. How do I? Add on to my barns.

  348. He doesn't say how do. I like added another let.

  349. No, he's like, I need to break them all the way down and I need

  350. to build myself. Brand new ones, so it's not

  351. just. More room it has to look.

  352. Like why I got I need more room. All of this stuff.

  353. When I read this. This is the prototype to.

  354. What we call the American Dream, There's a saying.

  355. It says give all you. Can can all you get then you sit

  356. on the cans so that way you don't.

  357. Share it with nobody. We.

  358. Live in a world. And I'm like, we live in a world

  359. where everything is like, you got to.

  360. You got a hoard. You got to.

  361. You got to keep. You got to get.

  362. Stuff. You got to get stuff.

  363. You got to get stuff. You got to get.

  364. Stuff. When you have stuff, you need

  365. more stuff. You need better stuff.

  366. You need bigger stuff. All this stuff you.

  367. Continue to build and listen. This is the American Dream.

  368. Prototype right here. Don't share with nobody.

  369. Look at verse 19 and I'll. Say to who?

  370. Myself. So now he's like, I had a

  371. meeting with my board. Of directors.

  372. Me, myself and I. And what they decided.

  373. Was that we're going to build bigger.

  374. Barns And then I need to talk to my soul, so let me talk to

  375. myself. Real quick, you have.

  376. Plenty of grain laid up for many years.

  377. Take life easy, Eat. Drink and be merry.

  378. I think this is the first time we see in scripture a retirement

  379. plan so we don't just see the American Dream.

  380. This is what it should look like to retire.

  381. Like I'm trying to get. To a place where I could just

  382. eat. Be merry.

  383. I don't have to work anymore. I don't have to do anything

  384. anymore. Yeah, I remember there was a

  385. church. I was talking to some senior

  386. adults and one of the things that somebody told me, they

  387. said, you know, Ricky. I feel like we.

  388. Didn't just retire from life, but we retired from Christianity

  389. and sometimes when we think about retirement we think that

  390. is the end all. Be all that is the goal of life

  391. is to get to a place where. I don't have to do anything ever

  392. again. The problem with this notion?

  393. Is that that ticket to? Retirement is connected to

  394. hedonism and retirement. Should be a.

  395. Gift from God to allow you to do now whatever the heck you want,

  396. but continue to serve the Lord. That's the goal.

  397. That's the plan. And also when we think about

  398. when you look at Scripture and you hear things like.

  399. Eat, drink, be merry. Listen that that's a.

  400. That that's kind of a saying for.

  401. Be decadent. Have a.

  402. Sinful life of debauchery. That that is not kind of like

  403. what we think of here in the United States when you look at.

  404. The scriptures first. Corinthians chapter 1530. 2 Even

  405. Paul says he goes. Man, listen if the.

  406. Dead are not raised. Then let us just.

  407. Eat, drink, for tomorrow we die. So if your.

  408. Goal in life. Is to get to a place where you

  409. can just. Eat, drink and be merry and do

  410. whatever you want. What you're thinking is, listen,

  411. I'm going to just stop and I'm just going to just take in and

  412. do it. I'm not going to help nobody

  413. else. I am done living.

  414. But that's not what the Bible says.

  415. Because if that was the truth, if life.

  416. Was only. Here on this earth.

  417. If that's all that you have to live for.

  418. Is the moment right now if you don't live for eternity?

  419. That's. Not what I see in Scripture,

  420. 'cause when you look at Hebrews 926 I'm just going.

  421. To read this real. Quickly.

  422. That's not that's not what it. Says.

  423. Because what we see in Hebrews 9 it says well.

  424. I'll. Start in verse 20. 7 Just as

  425. people are. Destined to die once and after

  426. that face judgment so. Christ was sacrificed once.

  427. To take away the sins of many. And he will.

  428. Appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation

  429. to those who are waiting for him.

  430. You don't just live. Here on this world and do

  431. whatever you want and then once you're dead, it's over.

  432. No what I. See in the.

  433. Scripture is that Christ when you pass away here.

  434. You're going to be standing right in judgment.

  435. You're. Going to.

  436. Be in his presence there's. No purgatory like you don't.

  437. Float around till you decide what you want to do.

  438. You pass away here, you're. Going to.

  439. Straight to the judgment. And you're going to have to give

  440. an account. To a holy, unrighteous God of

  441. what you did with Jesus, what did you do with the things that

  442. He allowed you to steward while you were here on this earth?

  443. What? Did you do with your time?

  444. Your relationships. How did you?

  445. Steward things Well, we're going to have to give an account.

  446. To Christ. So it's not just live and be

  447. merry and no, it's you continue to.

  448. Serve the Lord you. Continue to invest in Christ you

  449. you continue to invest in Kingdom, and Jesus is pointing

  450. this out. He's like this.

  451. Guy's got it wrong. He wants bigger barns, he wants

  452. more stuff. He wants to just.

  453. Chill in life. And and just do nothing the rest

  454. of. His life and look at.

  455. The answer that Jesus says in this.

  456. Story verse 20 but. God said to him.

  457. You fool. Can I get a little bit more?

  458. Explicit the real. Translation, you damn fool.

  459. You look at Psalms. 20. 4. Psalms 24 one it says.

  460. For only a fool says in his heart.

  461. There is no God Psalms. 15 Psalms 25.

  462. Also, why did Jesus say it like this?

  463. The problem was that this man's riches caused him to live in a

  464. way. That God.

  465. Was not part. Of the picture.

  466. God gave him everything. He's like, yeah, whatever.

  467. I'm the one that. Did it, God blessed.

  468. Him I need bigger barns, I need bigger stuff, I need more

  469. things. What should I do?

  470. Instead of consulting with God, what's he doing?

  471. I'm going to take it upon myself and God's like, you're a fool.

  472. It's funny because this man sure didn't have a.

  473. Lot to say. But you know who has the last

  474. word? God, and this is scary, He says

  475. this. Very night your life will be

  476. demanded from you. Then who?

  477. Will get what you have prepared for yourself.

  478. Uh oh. You know why this man was a

  479. fool? Because.

  480. He didn't know how to tell time. This whole time he thought he

  481. had all the time in the world to do whatever he wanted.

  482. And God's like. Wait, wait, wait.

  483. Remember who's in control here? I am, you know, there's nothing

  484. in this life that has caused more division in families.

  485. And I would even say. In church bodies than the game

  486. of Monopoly. Anybody ever played Monopoly?

  487. With family before. Speaking of Thanksgiving,

  488. listen, we were at a camp years ago and we busted out with

  489. Monopoly and it was the most outrageous extreme game of

  490. Monopoly. That I've ever played.

  491. It was awesome. We were cutting deals under the.

  492. Table we had. Contracts we did immunity.

  493. Deals we did, percentages we were storing, we were putting

  494. houses. And hotels and all that.

  495. Stuff. Like man, I took it.

  496. We took a. Dollar Bill I.

  497. Stood on the table and I was like.

  498. The helicopter I'm looking. At all my properties.

  499. You know what that does to somebody that's losing?

  500. People were mad. They were crying.

  501. It, it was awesome. Monopoly Will.

  502. They will do that. Tables can flip.

  503. What I love about Monopoly is that there's some people that

  504. really. Really.

  505. Take it serious. And they start collecting that

  506. money and you land on that hotel.

  507. Especially Boardwalk, I was like.

  508. Man, just give me your property right now.

  509. I got a hotel on that thing and you start, oh man, let me get a

  510. 500. He almost exchanged my ones.

  511. So I can flex a little bit harder.

  512. Let me. Let you borrow some money 'cause

  513. I got too much. That's what Monopoly does to

  514. families. But you know what's wild?

  515. Is at the end. Of the game, whether it's at

  516. 4:00 in the morning or three days later, it it does get like

  517. that sometimes. You have to take.

  518. All of that stuff and put it back in the.

  519. Box. Close the box.

  520. And you have to get back to normal life again.

  521. None of that stuff mattered because it was just a game.

  522. There was an end to it. And guys, as we live in this

  523. world, many of us are living our life like we're playing

  524. Monopoly. We're doing all these things,

  525. we're boasting, we're bragging, we're having fun with our

  526. things, not thinking. About the future.

  527. And what God is saying is like, don't be a fool.

  528. Your time is going to be up and at the end of the day, you're

  529. going to take. All that stuff that you have.

  530. And he's going to. Close that box.

  531. And it's not going to be relevant.

  532. And listen, when you die here on this earth, the only thing going

  533. in a box are your bones or your ashes in an urn, and you're

  534. going to stand in front of a holy and righteous God and

  535. having to explain. What you have to show forth?

  536. What? He's giving you God is saying

  537. you're. Fool, and also whenever Jesus

  538. talks about a parable. And Jesus infuses God in the

  539. story. It's not because it's a

  540. character. No, it is.

  541. God the Father. And God the Father has a

  542. message. This isn't like, oh, part of the

  543. no, no, this is God. God is saying this.

  544. Remember seeing John where Jesus?

  545. Is I only say the things that my father tells me to say.

  546. If you want to see what the Father's like, look at me.

  547. So. Jesus is like, listen, these are

  548. the. Things that.

  549. Like my father saying to you, he's warning you, don't be a

  550. fool. This very night your life will

  551. be demanded from you. Then who will get everything

  552. that you? Have prepared for yourself.

  553. And then look. At 21 how it ends?

  554. This is how it will be with whoever stores up.

  555. Things for themselves, but. Is not.

  556. Rich toward God. See you guys.

  557. It's the. Problem is not things.

  558. It's not our stuff. It's our.

  559. View of God when it comes to. Our stuff.

  560. So what do I? Do is.

  561. Just kind of end our time here. Just with a few.

  562. Teachings that. We could take from this parable.

  563. And then we'll be out and we'll be done.

  564. So I think these are just simple lessons for us to.

  565. Take with us. So #1 your time on this.

  566. Earth is limited, period. Your time on this earth is

  567. limited. Well, you don't know when God is

  568. going to say I'm done, you're done.

  569. You don't know what's going to happen.

  570. We don't know. The Bible says that nobody knows

  571. when Christ is going to return in all his.

  572. Glory. So why live a life?

  573. Thinking that you're going to stick around here forever when

  574. you're not the rich man was the main character in this story.

  575. Everything. Was.

  576. About what he was. Doing and he missed it and he

  577. was a. Fool, because he didn't.

  578. Know how to tell time, but he. Also missed the opportunity.

  579. To use what was. Blessed from the field.

  580. To give to others. And to build the Kingdom of.

  581. God and he kept. It all to himself, he didn't

  582. know another I think I think something else that we could

  583. take from this number 2 and this is a hard one for many of us.

  584. Life is out of. Your control.

  585. Listen, your decisions have consequences and the things that

  586. you do in life, the things that you chase in life are going to

  587. drag consequences. But what you need to understand?

  588. Is that? As we tight knuckle.

  589. Things and as we try to make things.

  590. Our own like thinking that we. Can do it.

  591. God is out there. Laughing, saying no, no.

  592. I'm the one that is making this thing work.

  593. I'm the one that makes it. Grow.

  594. I'm the one that blesses. The field everything you.

  595. Have does not belong to you. Everything you have, you only

  596. have it because I've allowed you to have it.

  597. You don't have that kind of control in life.

  598. Psalms 90. I think this is something great

  599. for us, man, for us to. Learn, say, teach us, Lord.

  600. To number our days, not to live life thinking that we have all

  601. the time in the world. That we could do.

  602. Whatever we want with God's stuff.

  603. But to. Live life thinking like God is

  604. in control. Of everything and everything.

  605. He has. Given me, I'm going to use it.

  606. For his. Kingdom.

  607. That is what he's. Getting at but also I think this

  608. is another. Truth that we see.

  609. With the rich man. That you can be wise before man,

  610. but you could be a fool. Before God.

  611. It's so easy to show to be wise. Many people might look at you

  612. and be like, man, look at, look at all the stuff.

  613. He has. Man, he must got it going on.

  614. Everything is awesome. But God can look at that.

  615. Same heart and be like you. Are a fool.

  616. 'Cause you are. Living like I don't exist.

  617. For a fool says in his. Heart, there is no God.

  618. It's really easy for us to be wise.

  619. Listen this rich man. He was.

  620. Flexing with all his stuff, he's like, you know, I'm going to

  621. build bigger barns that way. I could.

  622. I could just really. Pack it in.

  623. I'm going to tear them all down. And I'm going to.

  624. Build in all. The way back up.

  625. And God's like you're a fool. But you know what?

  626. I bet you everybody else. Around called him a trailblazer.

  627. He sure does hustle. He's brilliant, smart.

  628. I want to be like. That.

  629. I want my life to look like that.

  630. That would be awesome if I could have.

  631. All that stuff. And God's like.

  632. You're a fool. So be aware and make sure that

  633. you don't waste. Your life.

  634. Accumulating things and listen, the things that we accumulate

  635. will not save. You.

  636. It won't save you. You can't store it.

  637. And this is the biggest thing right here.

  638. Everything that you have will never satisfy you.

  639. You're always going to lead a little bit more.

  640. So it's never going to satisfy. So what do we do?

  641. What do we do here? So our time is limited.

  642. God is in control. It's really.

  643. Easy to fake the funk, right? Like man, people look at you

  644. like that dude is bro and God's like now he's a fool.

  645. Because of how he's. Using all this stuff.

  646. So how do we conclude then like? What do we do?

  647. If you choose Jesus, you get it all.

  648. If you choose Jesus, you get it all.

  649. My question As I read the text I'm like well then how do you?

  650. Be rich toward God. Like how do I?

  651. How am I rich? Toward God.

  652. Jesus says this. In the Sermon of the Mount

  653. Matthew. Five, he says.

  654. Blessed. Are the poor in?

  655. Spirit, how do I? Become rich in God.

  656. I confess my spiritual bankruptcy to him.

  657. I recognize that I have sinned. I have fallen short.

  658. I am nothing. Without him.

  659. I want to put my faith. And trust in Christ, I want to

  660. be. Forgiven.

  661. Because I have fallen short of the glory.

  662. Of God. And when I surrender my life to

  663. him and I experience true forgiveness, then I become.

  664. Rich toward God because. My life is no longer mine,

  665. remember? We talked about where your heart

  666. is also. That's where you store your

  667. treasure. And when you give your life to

  668. Jesus, your treasure changes. It's not about things anymore,

  669. it's about Him. My treasure is Christ.

  670. I want to. Live for.

  671. Him I want to. Follow.

  672. Him. Everything I do, I want to, I

  673. want to pursue him. Am I going to mess it?

  674. Up of course I. Am I'm not?

  675. I'm a terrible person, that's why I need him, so I'm going.

  676. To go after Christ. I'm going to chase after him

  677. because I know that if I. Choose Jesus.

  678. No matter all the stuff I have, no matter what I have in my

  679. life. I get it.

  680. All I have him and that's all I need.

  681. So I want to close like this. Can you say?

  682. You have it all. Have you chosen Christ?

  683. Do I have it? All.

  684. Do I have everything or? Do I just have stuff?

  685. Jesus wants to give everything he is to you, to experience

  686. forgiveness, grace, mercy. He loves us so much.

  687. All you have to do is accept it. So as we sing, as we close in

  688. song, we're going to have some brothers and sisters up here in

  689. the front corners, man, if you want to make a decision.

  690. For Christ talk to. Somebody if you want somebody to

  691. pray with. We're here to pray for you.

  692. Don't be shy, but don't let. This time go by.

  693. So let's pray together so.
