  1. This is City Post Church. We're about three things.

  2. Build equipped and send. All under the Lordship.

  3. Of Jesus Christ. A small church plant in Fort

  4. Worth, TX. Who decided to do things a

  5. little differently? Adoramos ayesu cristo I love

  6. city post because of the people. It's where I belong.

  7. We truly preach the Word. I love City Post because of the

  8. community we've been able to build.

  9. To do ministry like Jesus. For light to push back darkness.

  10. This is City Post podcast. I played football all through

  11. high. School and I graduated from

  12. Pascal High School. But my senior.

  13. Year playing at Pascal. This year was different because

  14. we went into a new district. And the coach ran a 52 defense.

  15. Now a 5. Two means 5 down lineman and two

  16. backers. And all through my high school.

  17. Career in football, I always played a Rover.

  18. Which was like an outside. Backer strong safety, but this.

  19. Year, the coach, said Kado. We're going to put.

  20. You as a nose tackle. And I was like, what is that?

  21. So my role, my job in this position was to line up in front

  22. of the center and. All I did was shoot the A gap or

  23. the B gap. Now, we had a stud for a

  24. linebacker, so my job was to free him up so that way the

  25. guard didn't pull to block him. I I was supposed.

  26. To like help stop the. Schemes in the middle of

  27. everything and I remember the first team that we played my

  28. senior year and this is the first time I've started in

  29. varsity. Always backed up.

  30. In my junior year, but I get to start this time.

  31. We played Crowley High School. So we get out there.

  32. And I'm like super excited. I'm like, let's go.

  33. Like it's a new position that I'm in.

  34. All I got to do is shoot. The gaps, no problem.

  35. Soon as they hike the ball, I got my tail whooped.

  36. I mean, I was pancaked. I mean I got.

  37. Ear holed like they pulled. I try to follow them.

  38. Nothing. I mean, it was so.

  39. Bad like that that the guards. Just like they laid on top of

  40. me. I remember one of them like they

  41. started punch like hitting me on my sides, dug their elbows in my

  42. back. One of them like.

  43. Pulled the back. Of my helmet down and used the

  44. face mask. All it was, it was.

  45. Brutal. So we're losing 21 to 0.

  46. No surprise. At halftime we go into half and

  47. the coach, of course, encourages us.

  48. He starts speaking in tongues. I can't.

  49. Repeat but. I remember my defensive line

  50. coach calls me and he says Coddle come here and then he

  51. looks at me and he goes. You got to do something.

  52. What are you doing? And I'm like, I'm just shooting

  53. the gaps like you asked me to. And he's like, no, you've got to

  54. do something. And he goes Right now you are.

  55. Playing not to get hit. And he goes.

  56. You're a defensive lineman. You got to be violent.

  57. Is that you Got to be rough, you got to be aggressive.

  58. Suck it up, do. Something and stop playing not

  59. to get hit and I remember that kind of lit something inside of

  60. me. He, he probably called me a punk

  61. in front of the whole team pretty much.

  62. And and then he said some other kind words and then now when the

  63. second-half. Started.

  64. It, it kind of ignited something in me and the first thing I did

  65. was I took out the dude's knees and then I started holding their

  66. legs and I and then I started using my hands.

  67. And the more it got, the more encouraged I felt.

  68. To like do what I was. Called and supposed to do, and I

  69. think sometimes when we talk about the Christian life.

  70. God is. Calling us.

  71. God is, is. Calling us in the game, well,

  72. especially. If you're if you are a follower.

  73. Of Jesus Christ and he puts you in a position.

  74. To move his purpose forward, which is to build.

  75. His Kingdom, but what many of us don't really take account it.

  76. For is. As we're put in this position,

  77. what happens when you get pancakes?

  78. What happens when you're put in that position and it is like

  79. bam, one hit after another and you're like, what is going on?

  80. I am getting destroyed right now and we start living our

  81. Christian lives trying not to. Get hit and God is.

  82. Calling us to this amazing story, this amazing plan he has

  83. called us all into and he's put us in and aligned us in this

  84. specific position. But what?

  85. Happens when you get hit. And what ended up happening with

  86. me was I got hit so many times that discouragement started

  87. impacting what the. Goal.

  88. I had it. Started to impact what I knew

  89. what I was supposed to. Do it started to.

  90. To like to meet like. Just.

  91. Wait on me to the point where I was like, I I shouldn't even be

  92. here right now. These guys are killing me.

  93. And listen. As as believers in Christ,

  94. there's going to be times. Where God puts.

  95. You in a position to. Serve him.

  96. But you get pancakes and. Discouragement starts to settle.

  97. In our souls and what discouragement.

  98. Does is that? Discouragement, when it goes

  99. unchecked, leads to disobedience and.

  100. What I want to look at today is as we pursue Christ.

  101. Remember we. Talked about this last week.

  102. Our goal is we want to pursue Christ.

  103. How do we pursue? Christ when discouragement

  104. creeps in. What do we do?

  105. How do we manage that? And I think there's no better

  106. person to tell us than the apostle Paul.

  107. So let's go to 2nd Corinthians chapter 4.

  108. Second Corinthians chapter 4 out of IF.

    2 Corinthians 4 chapter mention

  109. If there's anybody in this world that could talk about

  110. discouragement, that could talk about their tail getting kicked.

  111. That could talk about getting. Beat down for the purposes.

  112. That God has. Called them to.

  113. It is the Apostle Paul. Brother went through it.

  114. But Paul's. Perspective and how Paul viewed

  115. ministry and life. I think there's something that

  116. we could learn from him. And my goal for today?

  117. My prayer for everybody, including myself.

  118. Is that if you are? Going through a time of

  119. discouragement that. You leave here.

  120. Encouraged knowing that God has not left you alone and that

  121. there's a. Greater plan here for you.

  122. Before I read the. Text let me pray for.

  123. Us So Father, I pray that you speak through to us through your

  124. word. And Lord help us.

  125. As we walk through your text, Lord help me Father to.

  126. Teach everything that I've studied.

  127. Lord, and that I keep. Everything in its context and

  128. everything come from you, not from me.

  129. So, Lord, I pray God that you help us today.

  130. In the name we pray. Amen, man.

  131. So we're going to look at, we're going to start looking at verse

  132. 13. But before I read.

  133. The text I want to talk a little bit about discouragement and I

  134. think one of the best definitions I've heard about

  135. discouragement. I'll go ahead and put it on the

  136. screen. Discouragement.

  137. Is dissatisfaction with the past distaste for the present and

  138. distrust for the future dissatisfaction with the past

  139. distaste? For the present and distrust.

  140. For the future. So as we're serving the Lord and

  141. things are not going the way that we wanted them to go, or we

  142. get pancake, we get hit. Man, I love like the text that

  143. my brother Juan read like we planned that or something.

  144. Right. So like we get attacked

  145. spiritually. And the enemy comes and the the

  146. thing that he could. Do is discourage?

  147. Us from serving Christ and pull us away from the faith and when

  148. it discouragement creeps into our life, we start having a

  149. dissatisfaction from our past like man like why?

  150. Did that have to happen? To me and then we camp out

  151. there, but then that bleeds into our present and then we have a.

  152. Distaste for our our present. Like, man, because of my past,

  153. now I'm stuck where I'm at. And because I'm stuck where I'm

  154. at now I have a distrust from my future.

  155. Now I can't trust where I'm going because I'm worried about

  156. all these elements that crept into my life.

  157. And let me tell you something Church big fat.

  158. Lie. Huge deceit from the enemy.

  159. Because what God says is that. Have something bigger and better

  160. for you? So before I read. 13 Let me

  161. catch. Us up the Apostle Paul.

  162. In chapter 4 is going to be telling us.

  163. About all the hardships. That he's going through.

  164. For the gospel he even. Starts verse one.

  165. With this whole idea is because we have.

  166. This ministry of mercy that God's giving us, Don't lose

  167. heart. Don't lose heart.

  168. And then he goes on to talk about in Chapter 4.

  169. All the hard stuff he's. Gone through?

  170. Then he gets to this. Section where he talks about us

  171. being jars of. Clay filled with treasure.

  172. So we're like normal. People are.

  173. A normal utilization of things. He uses the example.

  174. Of a jar of clay. Because in that culture use.

  175. The jar of clay for. Everything to get water to make

  176. wine in. To wash clothes with it, it's

  177. kind of like. Our rendition of a Walmart bag.

  178. My Walmart bag. Right, I carry groceries with.

  179. It it becomes something I put wet.

  180. Clothes in I use. It as a trash can.

  181. When I get my hair done, I put it over my head and I run

  182. through the rain. I'm joking.

  183. Right, so. You use it for so many things.

  184. It's something so normalized in our culture.

  185. But that's what Paul is saying. He's like, we're like jars of

  186. clay. Something so normal, something

  187. that we use all the time, but the difference is there's a

  188. treasure inside of us and that. Is Jesus Christ.

  189. It is the. Gospel message, The Holy Spirit.

  190. He lists all this stuff. He's like, so don't get

  191. discouraged. And then he starts in verse 13,

  192. and this is where we're going to camp out.

  193. Today look at verse. 13 and then Paul says it is written, I

  194. believe. Therefore I have.

  195. Spoken since we have the same. Spirit of faith, we also.

  196. Believe and therefore speak, because we know.

  197. That the one who raised. The Lord Jesus from the dead

  198. will. Also raise us with Jesus.

  199. And present us with you to himself.

  200. All right, so this section we're we're going to kind of break

  201. this thing down. Here chapter verse 13 Paul

  202. starts for it is. Written so when I.

  203. Observe the text I see. Quotation marks.

  204. That means he's quoting somebody from somewhere.

  205. And as Paul is going to write to encourage us.

  206. To get through all of this hardship for the gospel.

  207. And all this encouragement. What he does is that he quotes

  208. David. He quotes Psalms 116.

  209. Think about it. Paul is like.

  210. Think about who he quotes. Out of everybody, he thinks, who

  211. else? Has gone through something

  212. Really. Hard, really difficult.

  213. Who has suffered for his faith and.

  214. Suffered for the gospel, David. And I looked it up and I was

  215. like pulse quoting. David, if you look at.

  216. Psalms 116 I'll just. Read it for us, real.

  217. Quickly starting on verse. 8 This is the this.

  218. Is David saying for you Lord have delivered me from death, my

  219. eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling and then in verse 10

  220. he says I trusted in the. Lord, when I said I am greatly

  221. afflicted, what? David is saying is because I'm

  222. trusting in God in my affliction, therefore I'm.

  223. Able to say this? I trust in the Lord.

  224. Many of us have got to understand that.

  225. If you trust. In the Lord you've got.

  226. To be able to say it. And many of us can't say it,

  227. because our faith is not. There.

  228. We think that this. Is it for us?

  229. And what Paul is saying is like, listen.

  230. I have faith like David had faith.

  231. Even though I'm going through this.

  232. The the this really. Difficult situation, this

  233. affliction in my. Life just like David.

  234. I'm going to say the same thing. Therefore, because I have faith,

  235. because I have his. Spirit in me, I am going to

  236. speak this and also I'm going to speak this because I know that

  237. my afflictions and my hardships are going to lead me to

  238. something greater. It says it right here.

  239. The one who? Raised the Lord Jesus.

  240. From the dead and also. Raised us with Jesus.

  241. And present us with you to himself, Paul believed.

  242. That the purpose of his. Afflictions and his near death

  243. sufferings and all of the hardships and experiences that

  244. that he. Faced, Paul believed.

  245. That he lived and experienced. This for the resurrection life

  246. of Jesus Christ. He's going through it for a

  247. specific reason and purpose. And he understands that it.

  248. Changed the way that he. Viewed it, Paul knew.

  249. That all of his despair. And listen, if you guys want to

  250. see what Paul went through, stay in Second Corinthians and go to

  251. Chapter 11 and read verses 23. Through 30.

  252. Three, he gives you a. Laundry list of stuff.

  253. That he has gone through. You want to talk about

  254. discouragement? Read. 23 through 33.

  255. It's difficult, but Paul. 'S like man, but this ministry

  256. that he's given us. It's worth it.

  257. So he's. Serving the Lord, all these

  258. things are hitting Him. So then the question.

  259. Is how? How do I get through this?

  260. Encouragement or discouragement. Now look at verse 15.

  261. This gets crazy. Because Paul says something

  262. here. That.

  263. Should be encouraging to us, but when we read it.

  264. It's like. Oh, I don't know.

  265. Look at 15. He goes for all of this is for

  266. your benefit What so all of his hardships?

  267. Everything that he's going through, all his afflictions.

  268. All the difficult stuff that Paul is, is.

  269. Rocking through. What he says is it's for your.

  270. Benefit what? What's the benefit?

  271. Here, so that the grace. That is, reaching more and more

  272. people may cause Thanksgiving to.

  273. Overflow to the glory of God. I think maybe sometimes when we

  274. are serving the Lord and we go. Through some hardships.

  275. And we go through some trials and we go through some some

  276. really uncomfortable situations. Instead of us.

  277. Complaining to the Lord instead of us falling into our

  278. rebellious nature and becoming. Like this little like spiritual

  279. hermit crab where we retract. Maybe, just maybe, we should.

  280. Ask God what is the benefit of this because if.

  281. It's for our benefit and what Paul is saying, and it's to.

  282. Push the gospel forward. Maybe we need to start asking

  283. like. God, what are you?

  284. Trying to do through my afflictions.

  285. What is it that I'm getting out of this that knows?

  286. It's hard to say. But Paul is understanding that

  287. everything that he's gone through.

  288. Is. Bigger than what he thinks.

  289. He knows that God is in control. Of everything.

  290. And then he. Says but but here's this is how

  291. he. Gets through it in verse. 15 so

  292. that the grace. That is, reaching more and more

  293. people may cause Thanksgiving. To overflow.

  294. You know what the benefit is, is that more and more people are

  295. knowing. Christ, so let me help us.

  296. So let's just go. Point #1.

  297. How do I fight? Discouragement in my life?

  298. Simple. Share the gospel.

  299. Share the gospel. Lead others to Christ.

  300. Talk about Jesus. How do I say?

  301. The same thing three times. Differently, what Paul is saying

  302. is like. Man if my discouragement sinks

  303. because more and more people. Are finding grace in him.

  304. It's hard. Listen to me.

  305. It's hard to feel all. Depressed and down and despair.

  306. When you're are making disciples.

  307. And sharing Christ. Share the Gospel Share.

  308. I'm not talking about inviting people to church, I'm talking

  309. about sharing the life giving message of the.

  310. Gospel. I'm talking about like.

  311. Going up to people and and just sharing Jesus with them.

  312. Talking to Jesus about every Just talk to him about Jesus.

  313. And there's something in your. Soul that stirs up that.

  314. Like illuminates, and it's. Hard for us to be.

  315. All depressed and then just all like in our fields whenever.

  316. We share Christ. Because that message is life

  317. giving, so I'm not going to be down and depressed when I preach

  318. the gospel message. To everybody and many.

  319. Of us. Have to start thinking about how

  320. to. How do I go through it man?

  321. Talk about Jesus, one of my. Favorite things, all right.

  322. So one of the biggest questions I get as a.

  323. Pastor is Ricky when? Do you?

  324. When do you rest? I love what people say.

  325. When do you Sabbath? When is your Sabbath?

  326. And, and I'll be honest with you, like when I'm tired, I.

  327. Sleep when I feel. Like I need to get away, I get

  328. away. It's a.

  329. Rhythm, but one of the. Things that rejuvenates and

  330. restores my soul the most is when I go.

  331. Hang out with. Somebody else in ministry?

  332. Whether it's a pastor. Like I was having coffee with

  333. Pastor Mario the other day and we were talking about something

  334. like y'all. Remember in the summer?

  335. When like we had acoustic. Sunday because half of our

  336. building went out. 'Cause there was some.

  337. Lightning shock, that. Hit and our soundboard just.

  338. Anyway. We're I'm, I'm we're sharing.

  339. That story and it's same thing happened to him in River Oaks.

  340. And we're, like talking. He's like, yeah.

  341. Bro, we turned on nothing sounded.

  342. I was like, I know, me too. And then he's like, yeah, we

  343. were scrambling everywhere trying to figure out what to do.

  344. And I was like, man, like our. Guys were sad, so we were good,

  345. right? Like and all this stuff and I

  346. was like man. And it like cost us an arm and a

  347. leg like train half our savings. Man, but isn't it awesome?

  348. And he's like, yeah. There's something about serving

  349. Jesus. Regardless of the hardships.

  350. And the stresses and the. Pressures of life.

  351. That rejuvenates the soul. And what you rejuvenates?

  352. The soul is knowing that more and more.

  353. People get to experience the gospel of grace.

  354. More and more. People get to meet Christ.

  355. More and more. People get to kick to.

  356. Experience forgiveness. And that's what Paul is saying

  357. here. Listen, this is a benefit to me.

  358. The reason I'm going through all these things?

  359. Is to push. This gospel message forward.

  360. So that the grace is. Reaching more and more.

  361. People and it may cause and I look.

  362. Watch here it is. It may cause Thanksgiving so.

  363. As I share the gospel. My soul becomes more thankful.

  364. It becomes Thanksgiving. To overflow to the.

  365. Glory of God listen Paul's whole ministry, everything that Paul.

  366. Was about was about his glory, we see at first.

    1 Corinthians 10:30

  367. Corinthians chapter 10, verse 30.

  368. One this. Is a verse that my.

  369. Dad has everywhere in every. Closet everything I do.

  370. Whether I eat or. Drink everything I.

  371. Do I do it for the glory of God? Let me ask you A.

  372. Question. What motivates you daily?

  373. What motivates? You to get out of.

  374. Bed and do what you got to do. What motivates?

  375. You to go to. Work in the morning.

  376. To love your wife and. Kids, what motivates?

  377. You to serve the Lord. We need to check our motivations

  378. because what Paul? 'S saying you know that the.

  379. The biggest thing that motivates?

  380. Me to keep going when things are.

  381. Difficult the glory of God. What?

  382. Motivates me to keep doing this because listen, if your

  383. motivation is anything else that's not God's glory, it's

  384. going to collapse on itself if your motivation is people.

  385. Likes platforms. If your motivation are crowds.

  386. It's. Going to collapse on itself.

  387. It's going to fail you. Every time.

  388. So your motivation. Has to be something so strong

  389. and significant. That it's able to hold the

  390. purposes of Christ, the glory of God.

  391. And that's what. Paul's saying he's like, man,

  392. this Thanksgiving, this overflow is to what motivates me every

  393. single day and what motivates me to get through my.

  394. Hardships, which is the glory of God.

  395. So how do I fight? Discouragement.

  396. Talk about Jesus Share the. Gospel.

  397. Oh, but it gets better. Check this out.

  398. Paul's going to go to another level here.

  399. So he says all. That and then verse 16 hits and

  400. then he goes there. For right, So he's about.

  401. To connect everything we just learned.

  402. With what's ahead of us because of all this.

  403. Because it's a. Benefit because I have faith.

  404. Because I know that this is bigger than me.

  405. Because I know God's going to honor this.

  406. Because of all this stuff, therefore we let's all say

  407. together. Do not.

  408. Lose here it is therefore. We do not lose heart, though.

  409. Outwardly we're wasting away, yet inwardly we're being

  410. renewed. Day by day, I love that Paul

  411. uses. This term, don't lose heart.

  412. I started reading into it except like I.

  413. Feel like I've heard. Lou, don't lose heart more than

  414. once from the. Apostle Paul in Second

  415. Corinthians. And a lot of his epistles.

  416. But here's what's fascinating about this.

  417. Because this is what we got to do.

  418. Like what? We call like some word.

  419. Studies so. Whenever you see this whole

  420. term, don't lose heart and the Greek.

  421. The word is ekekao. Which means to become weary and

  422. faint, which makes sense. What?

  423. Paul is saying. Is don't become weary or faint.

  424. You know Jesus says this in John chapter 16 as well.

    John 16 chapter mention

  425. You see that Greek word ekekeo? But here's what's wild about

  426. this. John does not use.

  427. Ekekeo, he uses a. Different Greek.

  428. Word. He uses enkekao right?

  429. So he's trying to match both. Same word but different

  430. definitions. It's like me saying he got

  431. knocked out and then she's knocking at the door.

  432. Same word, same spelling, but different means of defining.

  433. And what? Paul is saying he's like, don't

  434. lose heart. He's not saying do not become

  435. faint and become tired. He uses Anka Kale.

  436. This definition is crazy, what Anka Kale's saying and I'll put.

  437. It up here don't lose heart means.

  438. Abandoning oneself to cowardly surrender.

  439. IE stop being a punk about it. Don't lose heart, he's saying.

  440. Don't quit, he goes. When you quit, you're being a

  441. coward. That means that you do not want

  442. to take on what's difficult and hard.

  443. You rather turn around with your tail between your legs and run

  444. off instead of facing what's difficult in life.

  445. And what Paul is saying, he was like Anki kill.

  446. He's like man. Don't be a.

  447. Coward and surrender right now. He's not saying don't be faint,

  448. he's saying don't be a. Coward.

  449. And run away. Take heart, your afflictions are

  450. going to hit you. But take heart why?

  451. He says. Why not be a coward?

  452. Why don't surrender? Because.

  453. Outwardly we're. Wasting away, but inwardly

  454. we're. Being renewed day by day.

  455. What Paul does, he gives us 2. Reasons why not to lose heart in

  456. these next couple of verses, he says hey, don't be a cow.

  457. Don't. Don't cowardly.

  458. Surrender. Don't don't run off.

  459. I need you to fight. Through this Paul.

  460. Could not abandon his calling. He's like I, I.

  461. Can't just because things are hard, I I can't quit on this.

  462. The message. Is too strong.

  463. So what he does? Instead, instead of abandoning

  464. his call to to move the gospel. Forward because life is

  465. difficult. What he does instead is that he.

  466. Looks at how God is. Going.

  467. To strengthen him through it. He's trusting.

  468. He would trust. Remember he started out with

  469. Psalms 116 so. He's like because I believe.

  470. I'm speaking. I'm trusting in God.

  471. Remember, we just sang this. I'm trusting in God to

  472. strengthen me through it. How does God strengthen me

  473. through. This he gives us 2.

  474. Ways number one is, is new mercies.

  475. Daily. So I'm going to put down the.

  476. Screen, there's two ways. Number one is new mercies and

  477. then number. 2 is an eternal perspective.

  478. New mercies and an. Eternal perspective.

  479. Let's talk about new mercies real quickly.

  480. Look what he says, right? He's like outwardly we're.

  481. Wasting away but. Internally, when being renewed,

  482. that word renewed is important because in lamentations he goes

  483. man like. Your great is your.

  484. Faithfulness because we get new mercies every day.

  485. That means that regardless. Of what happened today,

  486. tomorrow. Is a fresh start.

  487. No matter how. Bad.

  488. I jacked it up. Today, no matter how terrible I

  489. feel today, no matter what happened to me today, I know

  490. that. I could.

  491. Cry out to God because He is faithful.

  492. To be with me and I have a brand new day tomorrow.

  493. And what Paul is referring to is like, listen.

  494. Outwardly, yeah. I'm, I'm, I'm going.

  495. I'm wasting away. There ain't nothing you could do

  496. to restore. Me physically, outwardly.

  497. I can't go back in time and become younger and not be hurt

  498. as much, but inwardly I'm able to be renewed and restored every

  499. single day. Through the grace of God.

  500. And he's able to grow me more and more into his son, which we

  501. call sanctification. And I'm able to do that on a

  502. daily. Basis so.

  503. No matter how bad I Jack it up today, tomorrow I get to try

  504. again. God does not hold it over your.

  505. Head but if I ask for. Forgiveness.

  506. If I ask him for help, you know he's going to do.

  507. He's going to help me. He's going to renew me, he's

  508. going to restore me. We get new mercies every single

  509. day. Praise.

  510. God, that he does not hold grudges against our sin if we

  511. ask him for forgiveness. He will.

  512. Restore us and renew us then in verse 17.

  513. We talk about eternal perspective.

  514. Look what 17 says. This is pretty cool too, he

  515. goes. For our light and momentary.

  516. Troubles. Are achieving for us an eternal

  517. glory that far outweighs them all.

  518. What Paul is saying, he's like, I don't.

  519. Just get new mercies every day. But because my eternal.

  520. Perspective. That means that there's.

  521. Something greater going on in this picture that I am

  522. struggling with right now. So because there's something.

  523. Greater because God is bigger. Than this because the gospel.

  524. Message of Jesus Christ is. So much bigger than this.

  525. The stuff that I'm struggling with right now, the pancake hits

  526. the getting like. Lighted up the, the the.

  527. Hardships. They're light, and momentarily.

  528. You know, if you ever. Any weight.

  529. Lifters in here. Ronnie Coleman when he would.

  530. Work out I mean. Five time, Mr. Olympia.

  531. He would always go to the bar. You know.

  532. Super heavy and he would yell. Out 2 words Lightweight

  533. lightweight baby. That's all you would do and then

  534. he would power clean like 1000 lbs.

  535. I'm like, what are you saying is right now what I'm about?

  536. To lift it's light mentally. Even though I'm going to

  537. struggle. Physically.

  538. Where I'm at right now, I'm looking at it.

  539. It's. Light and.

  540. You know why it's light? Because.

  541. It's momentary, it's not going to last forever, so.

  542. Paul is saying man all these and then he uses.

  543. The word troubles, I think, a. Better term would be

  544. afflictions. The word.

  545. Affliction in the Greek refers to an intense pressure.

  546. So what he's saying is that these afflictions.

  547. These short. Time frames of intense pressure

  548. have nothing when I. Weigh it against God's glory.

  549. It's easy, it's light work. And when we look at the span of

  550. eternity, what I'm going through right now in these little measly

  551. 8090 years, me, I'm hundred. I'm, I'm aiming for, I'm, I want

  552. to be a cent. I want to live a century.

  553. That's nothing when you. Look at the span of eternity

  554. guys. It is a.

  555. Vapor it is. It is quick.

  556. That's all Paul is saying. So he's.

  557. Like man, our light momentary. Troubles are.

  558. Achieving for us an eternal. Glory that far.

  559. Outweighs them all, all right. So we got.

  560. We got. To break down, this outweighs

  561. them, right? I think a better translation.

  562. Would be our weight of glory. So the stuff I'm going through.

  563. It's going to feel light. And it's going to be quick when

  564. I compare it to the weight in glory.

  565. Now, what Paul's doing. Remember last week we talked

  566. about how like Paul likes to mesh 2?

  567. Words like bujiro, right? Like the So what, Paul?

  568. Does he's that he meshes? A.

  569. Greek and a Hebrew concept here. So what he's saying is that the

  570. heaviness? Of God's glory.

  571. Is not just heavy. But it's also great, so.

  572. You want to talk about? Pressure of our.

  573. Afflictions has nothing compared.

  574. To the weight. And the greatness.

  575. Of God's glory, See God's glory. Yes, it would weigh.

  576. Down on us. It's God's glory.

  577. There's nothing that. Could outweigh it, it's too

  578. heavy. There's nothing that can lift,

  579. there's nothing that could move. Or.

  580. Press against God's glory. Because of the weight.

  581. And the greatness of it, it's impossible.

  582. So what Paul is saying, man, when I, when I look at this

  583. compared to God's glory, it outweighs them all.

  584. No matter how heavy my afflictions are, no matter how

  585. difficult my troubles are, no matter what things have

  586. happened, what people have done to me, the betrayals, the

  587. ugliness, the abuse, whatever is coming my way as I'm serving the

  588. Lord, none of that. Outweighs His glory.

  589. It actually runs against it. Because it's way too heavy.

  590. And it's too great. You can't move.

  591. And then Paul gives us. Another way.

  592. How do I fight? Against discouragement, and this

  593. is the Third Point right here, fix your eyes on Jesus.

  594. Fix your eyes on Jesus. We see this in Hebrews. 12 but

  595. Paul. Also says it here in verse 18.

  596. So what do I do? Again, you mercies daily.

  597. I have an eternal perspective now because I know that none of

  598. this outweighs your glory and your greatness, man.

  599. What do I do and how do I keep moving?

  600. How do I fight discouragement? So we fix our eyes.

  601. Not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen

  602. is. Temporary, but what is?

  603. Unseen is eternal. What Paul is saying is you need

  604. to stop looking at the stuff. IE the stuff of the world.

  605. Everything will fade away. Everything has a start and an

  606. end date. Everything will one day expire.

  607. So what we? Do instead of placing our

  608. eyesight on the things that really don't carry the weight on

  609. the things that can't. Outweigh God's glory.

  610. We fix our eyes. On God's glory and his name is

  611. Jesus. So in our afflictions and our

  612. hard times, you fix your eyes on Christ.

  613. And you pursue him because? Christ is not going to fade.

  614. He's going to be. There forever he is why we're

  615. able to do what we do regardless of our hard.

  616. Times and our troubles so. You got to get your eyesight up.

  617. You got to start. Looking at Christ, especially in

  618. these really difficult times that we're going through, and

  619. there's three things that I think will.

  620. Help us. To fix our eyes on.

  621. Christ, if you fix. Your eyes on Christ.

  622. Because what Paul is getting here is ministry, and what Paul

  623. wants is an enduring ministry. Jesus talks about a faith that

  624. lasts. Paul is.

  625. Talking about a ministry. That lasts.

  626. How do I? Run with endurance.

  627. How do I not lose heart and punk out because it gets too.

  628. Hard. You got to look at.

  629. Jesus and when you look at. Jesus, there's three.

  630. Things that actually happened. So I'm put those three things

  631. up. So we have to look.

  632. Beyond some things, as Christians, as believers in

  633. Christ, number one, got to look beyond the.

  634. Physical to the spiritual. When things are going on

  635. physically, we know that there's a spiritual component to it as

  636. well, whether it's unrepentant sin.

  637. Whether it's, it's just. Unforgiveness, whether it's

  638. something that is weighing down on us and many times some of the

  639. things that we're going through and some of the afflictions.

  640. Take a physical. Toll on our bodies, do you know?

  641. Stress stuff to your body. Stress could put.

  642. You in a hospital. Unforgiveness.

  643. Could do stuff to your body. There's a lot of things that

  644. could happen to us. So we have to look.

  645. Beyond the physical and go to the spiritual #2 we have to stop

  646. looking at the present and start looking to the future.

  647. And remember what discouragement.

  648. Does right? Discouragement gives you like a.

  649. Distaste for the present. And a distrust to the.

  650. Future. But if we are not discouraged

  651. and we're encouraged in the gospel in.

  652. Christ, we're able to look. Further to the future instead.

  653. Of the. Present God has something

  654. greater and something bigger. And then lastly we got to.

  655. Look at what's visible. And we have to look.

  656. Stop looking at what's visible. And look to what's invisible.

  657. We look at the. Things that we can't see.

  658. That's what Paul says, and that requires faith.

  659. Faith most of our afflictions, as we're serving the Lord, as we

  660. keep getting hit, as we keep getting nailed sometimes.

  661. We have to dig deep. Into our faith and say, Lord, I

  662. don't know what's happening. Right now, but because I I

  663. believe. I'm going to speak this some.

  664. You need to speak up and say listen, I will not let.

  665. What somebody did to me? Define my future because my God

  666. is way bigger. Way bigger than what we believe.

  667. In what we know and. What we think.

  668. God wants to do something so much greater in our lives.

  669. But I got to trust him. I got to trust him.

  670. I've seen too much not. To be able to trust my God.

  671. Paul recognized that the world only sees the outward, not the

  672. unseen, eternal things. It's funny, it's like the more

  673. that I do this, the more that you pray and spend time with

  674. God, the more you see this, not just in the life.

  675. Of the church, but also. In the lives of my family and in

  676. people where God has. Such a great purpose.

  677. Something so much bigger that's happening.

  678. Don't lose heart. Don't lose heart, just.

  679. Keep going. Don't.

  680. Don't be a coward. Don't crawl up into a little.

  681. Ball man, some of y'all just need to get.

  682. Off podcasts. And stop listening to these.

  683. Psychological stuff, just. Get in the word.

  684. For a second, stop going to. Like all these like like.

  685. Listen, just get in God's Word sometimes.

  686. Listen to what he's he's. Telling us.

  687. Get around people who know the the word of the.

  688. Lord, let let that feed your. Soul, you know, I know.

  689. What some of y'all are thinking as we close here.

  690. Well, Ricky, did y'all win versus Crowley?

  691. Actually, no. We got killed.

  692. You know what's funny? We lost like 38 to 10.

  693. It was, it was bad. It was ugly.

  694. What's even crazier is that my senior year of high school, we

  695. didn't win one game. We went.

  696. Oh, and 10 isn't. That great.

  697. It's awful, I. Had 35 players on varsity this

  698. whole year going like four ways. It was awful.

  699. But you know. What's crazy, though?

  700. Me playing football in high school, it absolutely had no

  701. weight on whether Rachel decided.

  702. To marry me or not? It had no decision on the job.

  703. That I applied for. And that the job that God gave

  704. me. It had my winning or losing.

  705. My losing season had nothing on the decisions that I made in my

  706. life. But you know what that season

  707. did, though, as difficult. As it was, there was.

  708. Some things in that season that I learned, things that built my

  709. character being. Able to go through hardships.

  710. Getting through tough workouts, seeing everybody else quit and

  711. leave because their friend lab, because they failed classes,

  712. because they failed drug. Tests but but I was able to stay

  713. there it. Taught me to go and and provide

  714. for my family even though I don't feel.

  715. Like it today? It.

  716. Taught me to go to work even though my tummy hurts.

  717. It toughened me up. And listen, there's some

  718. afflictions in our lives that God is going to use that you

  719. don't understand the outcome. You don't understand man.

  720. Like, why am I part of this losing team right now?

  721. Why? Why am IA part of this losing

  722. season? And God's like, listen, it's not

  723. that the end of the season is what I'm working on you right

  724. now. Don't give up.

  725. Let me. Shape your character.

  726. Let me. Strengthen your faith, let me.

  727. Help you to get you. To the next season.

  728. That I have for you. And for some of us following

  729. Jesus, it's going to take some. Affliction so that.

  730. Way we could see his. Complete work in our lives you.

  731. Cannot give up. You cannot.

  732. Quit. You got to keep it going.

  733. And as Paul says, don't. Lose heart.

  734. There's somebody else that. Gives us a better.

  735. Response, Paul says don't lose. Heart but John. 1633 Jesus says

  736. take heart as you're. Serving the Lord and as.

  737. Things just don't seem like it's easy.

  738. Right now it's hard. As Paul says, don't lose heart.

  739. So if you don't lose heart, there's got to be an exchange.

  740. Jesus says take heart. For.

  741. I have overcome the world. Listen, your afflictions, the

  742. things that you're going through are not going to define you.

  743. They're not going to bury. You.

  744. And they're not going to hold you back to the purposes and

  745. plans that. God has set forward if you take

  746. heart. Grab on.

  747. Jesus says take heart, I've. Overcome the world.

  748. All this stuff that's. Happening right now, the

  749. adversary. Is doing.

  750. For you. No, no, no.

  751. I am over all of this right now. And what I'm going to do is I'm

  752. going to. Use it for your.

  753. Good because you love me and will strengthen your faith.

  754. I'm going to use it to bring glory to my name, to bring

  755. people. Into a relationship with God

  756. through grace. And it's going to be for your

  757. benefit and it's going to take. Your.

  758. Discouragement, and it's going to change it into encouragement

  759. and your discouragement. Instead of you falling.

  760. Into an earthly discouragement Jesus by taking.

  761. Heart and fix your eyes on him. He's going to turn it into an

  762. earthly, I mean a heavenly obedience.

  763. And your life? Is going to never be the.

  764. Same. You're going to thrive, you're

  765. going to see some great things because you're with Jesus, not

  766. because of the outcome. The outcomes are with him, and

  767. that's what. We need to do today.
