That was me trying to whistle Jeopardy. Husky. Husky? Husky. Okay. Yeah. Okay. You want to know why? I want to hear more. Okay. This is good. Okay. ⁓

  4. Jeramie: The question is, you ready? This more a statement. This is more a statement. So you say like an intervention, what is this? This is intervention. This is a team building. Okay. If Jeremy was a dog, what type of dog would he be? All right, what do you say? I want to give a couple seconds for our listeners to think about this before I drop mine. That was me trying to whistle Jeopardy. Husky. Husky? Husky. Okay. Yeah. Okay. You want to know why? I want to hear more. Okay. This is good. Okay. ⁓

  5. Allen: Huskies are like kind of power dogs like mushing. they mushing. They mush. There's a lot of mushing. A lot of mushing going on. So you're just driving the train. You're like out in front. Boom, boom, boom. Let's go. Yeah. Like you're kind of like pioneers. Yes. And so you're kind of out in front. You're like, hey, let's go. This is where we're going. This is where we're going. Pulling, grinding, pulling, grinding your grinder. And then also huskies are kind of a little bit pretentious. ⁓ Well, thank you all for joining us on this episode of

  7. Allen: Okay, well for you I would say I'm thinking high-energy super friendly like the friendliest dog in the world and I'm gonna say Golden Retriever Except for in your case. You're like a whole pack of Golden Retrievers hmm in one person in one person a whole pack Yeah, like puppies or like

  8. Jeramie: Okay, well for you I would say I'm thinking high-energy super friendly like the friendliest dog in the world and I'm gonna say Golden Retriever Except for in your case. You're like a whole pack of Golden Retrievers hmm in one person in one person a whole pack Yeah, like puppies or like

  9. Allen: Adult golden everything. It was just like imagine like a truck opens and go That's Alan. Yeah, that's right. Just jumping running over your guard training. Just boom. Yeah, that's right licking saying hi to everyone I've never been licked by Alan's ⁓ I've never licked anyone. That's a metaphorical Yeah, all right. Well, that was edifying. That's great. That's great. Hey, maybe you should think about what type of dog you would be. Yeah

  10. Jeramie: Adult golden everything. Yeah

  11. Allen: Ask your friends. Ask your friends. It'd be good intervention. Yeah, it'd be good. Great. ⁓ We're not looking at dogs. ⁓ In the Bible. Are there mention of dogs in the Bible? They're usually bad. That's actually true. It's a negative. Yeah, it's bad. I mean, dogs are like dirty. They're unclean. They eat garbage. Yeah, so usually dogs in the Bible are negative. Negative. Right. Yeah. Well, that's unfortunate. Yeah, I struggle with that because I'm a big dog guy. Yeah, you are. You have a poodle?

  12. Jeramie: Ask your friends. Ask your friends. It'd be good intervention. Yeah, it'd be good. Great. ⁓ We're not looking at dogs. ⁓ In the Bible. Are there mention of dogs in the Bible? Yeah. Well, that's unfortunate. Yeah. I struggle with that because I'm a big dog guy. Yeah, you are. You have a poodle? Well, we're hopping back into our Last this is the last month or last section of February. That's right. So congrats. You're with us What you would have read what we're commenting on and you also finished Leviticus. Oh, you've made it to the end of Leviticus That's a that's a feat. That's a feat So Leviticus you would have read 14 through 27. Yep in the Psalms 42 to 47

  13. Allen: Well, we're hopping back into our Last this is the last month or last section of February. That's right. So congrats. You're with us What you would have read what we're commenting on and you also finished Leviticus. Oh, you've made it to the end of Leviticus That's a that's a feat. That's a feat So Leviticus you would have read 14 through 27. Yep in the Psalms 42 to 47 Matthew 19 through 21 verse 22 and then you would have finished up Acts with 26 through 28 and so jumping into Leviticus mm-hmm kind of Help us understand because we're reading in four different sections right now So we'll this with each book But where are we kind of in the Old Testament and maybe specifically more like Leviticus like are we at the setting are we at like climax action are we at the peak are we at like a new setting where are we

  14. Jeramie: Matthew 19 through 21 verse 22 and then you would have finished up Acts with 26 through 28 and so jumping into Leviticus mm-hmm kind of Help us understand because we're reading in four different sections right now So we'll this with each book But where are we kind of in the Old Testament and maybe specifically more like Leviticus like are we at the setting are we at like climax action are we at the peak are we at like a new setting where are we

  15. Allen: Well, this, think, ⁓ is Leviticus is the center of the Pentateuch. In other words, the first five books of the Bible, Genesis through Deuteronomy. And ⁓ in chapter 16, the Day of Atonement is the center of Leviticus. So in a sense, the whole story of Genesis is leading us to the Day of Atonement and flowing out of the Day of Atonement.

  16. Jeramie: Well, this, think, ⁓ is Leviticus is the center of the Pentateuch.

  17. Allen: Which, you know, the Day of Atonement is such a rich foreshadowing of the sacrifice of Christ. You know, it's the one day a year when the high priest can go behind the curtain into the Holy of Holies, and there he makes atonement for Israel in the very presence of God. It's an amazing thing. And so much great symbolism in the Day of Atonement, like the scapegoat. Yeah, dude. I love the scapegoat. Yeah. What is a scapegoat?

  18. Jeramie: Which, you know, the Day of Atonement is such a rich foreshadowing of the sacrifice of Christ.

  19. Allen: Yeah, so he's the goat, so there's like two goats, one gets sacrificed, the other one, they confess the sins over the goat. And then that goat just gets taken out in the wilderness and set free. And it's such a powerful picture of like, where are my sins because of Jesus? And they are gone. I don't even know where they are. They're just out in the wilderness. Yeah, 21 in Leviticus 16.

  20. Jeramie: Yeah, so he's the goat, so there's like two goats, one gets sacrificed, the other one, they confess the sins over the goat. And then that goat just gets taken out in the wilderness and set free. And it's such a powerful picture of like, where are my sins because of Jesus? And they are gone. I don't even know where they are. They're just out in the wilderness. Yeah, 21 in Leviticus 16.

  21. Allen: in all their transgressions, all their sins, and He shall put them on the head of the goat and send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a man who is in readiness. The goat shall bear all their iniquities on itself to a remote area, and He shall let the goat go free in the wilderness." So it's like both a picture of my sins are paid for with the sacrifice behind the curtain, but also my sins therefore are gone. They're spread as far as the east is from the west. Yes, yes. That's exactly right. Our sins are remembered no more.

  22. Jeramie: in all their transgressions, all their sins, and He shall put them on the head of the goat and send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a man who is in readiness.

  23. Allen: Just like you don't even know where the goat is. So good. Yeah. Yeah, that's great. Yeah. that that, annual fee or day of atonement to cause God made a way. That was his whole thing. He wanted to be with his people. Yes. But he had to make a way and he's provided the solution with the atonement, the day of atonement. So yeah. Centerpiece of Leviticus. And honestly, maybe you could say this. One of the center themes of the Bible. Yeah. God.

  24. Jeramie: Just like you don't even know where the goat is. So good. Yeah. God.

  25. Allen: wants to dwell with his people. But there has to be atonement. But there has to be atonement. And access too. It's like, you know, there was only one time a year on one day where one guy, the high priest, could go into the actual presence of God. And then you think Jesus dies on the cross. And as he dies, a bunch of things happen. And one of them is that that curtain that protects the Holy of Holies is torn in half in the temple, which is just bananas.

  26. Jeramie: wants to dwell with his people.

  27. Allen: And it just shows like, wait, we can now go into the presence of God. It's not just the high priest once a year. He is the high priest. And of course, that's going to come out in the book of Hebrews. exactly. And here's maybe the central theme of Leviticus is holiness. Nineteen verse one or two says, And the Lord spoke to Moses saying, Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them, You shall be holy.

  28. Jeramie: And it just shows like, wait, we can now go into the presence of God.

  29. Allen: For I the Lord your God am holy. Yeah, that is like the entire message of Leviticus. Yeah, it's holiness. And then if you go and read through that, as you guys are reading, you'll see like these commandments, which by the way, this is like the Ten Commandments reiterated in. kind of explains them more and applies them to the life of the people of Israel. Right. Flushed out, flushed out. Exactly. He goes, I am the Lord your God. I am Lord your God. Every time he tells something, you should not bear my name falsely. It's a profane the name of your God. I am the Lord. Fear, fear your God. I am the Lord. I am the Lord. So he's just.

  30. Jeramie: For I the Lord your God am holy. Yeah, that is like the entire message of Leviticus. Yeah, it's holiness. And then if you go and read through that, as you guys are reading, you'll see like these commandments, which by the way, this is like the Ten Commandments reiterated in. He kind of explains them more and applies them to the life of the people of Israel. Right. Flushed out, flushed out. Exactly. He goes, I am the Lord your God. I am Lord your God. Every time he tells something, you should not bear my name falsely. It's a profane the name of your God. I am the Lord. Fear your God. I am the Lord. I am the Lord. So he's just.

  31. Allen: declaring His name, which is His character, which is His holiness, which holiness you could also say is like otherness. There's an otherness to God. so that it's... so there should be an otherness to His people. It's exactly right. They should be different from the nations. And so that's why you get all these laws like, you know, chapter 18 is all about ⁓ sexual purity. Right. And because the nations around them, the pagan nations were just like, anything goes. Yeah. Pagan, I mean, they perform sexual acts for worship.

  32. Jeramie: declaring His name, which is His character, which is His holiness, which holiness you could also say is like otherness.

  33. Allen: as part of their worship. Prostitution, cold prostitution, was, you know, everything goes, no boundaries, kind of like today. Yeah. But we're to be holy. They're not to participate in the worship of other gods. They're not to go to mediums and spiritists and engage in witchcraft and all that stuff. Even things like this, chapter 19, verse 16, do not go about spreading slander among your people.

  34. Jeramie: as part of their worship.

  35. Allen: Verse do not harbor hatred against your brother. Rebuke your brother directly and you will not incur guilt because of him. Do not take revenge or bear a grudge against members of your community, but love your neighbor as yourself. So holiness involves purity, but it also involves love and care for neighbor. And so that's a lot of Leviticus is just the holiness required and how we maintain holiness through the sacrificial system. Yeah, exactly right.

  36. Jeramie: Verse do not harbor hatred against your brother.

  37. Allen: And one more big theme in Leviticus is the feast. Yes in chapter 23 We get six different feasts and so these feasts are intended to express divine and human relationship the Lord instituted these feasts or ⁓ These these holy days for worship where they stopped they ceased from their ordinary lives and they dedicated to the Lord These means of offering so you have the Sabbath which was weekly you have Passover

  38. Jeramie: And one more big theme in Leviticus is the feast. 39. Allen: which happened once a year, and then there's the firstfruits, weeks, trumpets, the day of atonement was one of those feast days, and then booths. And so, just high level, ⁓ all of these feasts are to symbolize something, have a significance. With Sabbath, it was creation. Passover, salvation. Firstfruits, the best of the harvest, would be dedicated to the Lord. The feast of weeks, which would then become where Pentecost, where Spirit is pulled out.

  40. Jeramie: which happened once a year, and then there's the firstfruits, weeks, trumpets, the day of atonement was one of those feast days, and then booths.

  41. Allen: which is kind of this redemption. It's reversal of Babel even when God spread the ⁓ languages. And then Trumpets, which was, hey, there's preparation. The Day of Atonement, which is redemption. And then Booths is the joyful remembrance of the Lord's historic guidance for the people of Israel. And it's interesting how in the New Testament, ⁓ each of those festivals gets sort of taken up into Christ. So he is crucified on Passover.

  42. Jeramie: which is kind of this redemption. It's reversal of Babel even when God spread the ⁓ languages. And then Trumpets, which was, hey, there's preparation. And it's interesting how in the New Testament, ⁓ each of those festivals gets sort of taken up into Christ. So he is crucified on Passover.

  43. Allen: the Holy Spirit is poured out ⁓ as Christ ascends to heaven on Pentecost. You know, and many argue we're looking forward to the return of Christ with trumpets. you know, so even those feasts are kind of mapped onto the life of Christ and foreshadow ⁓ these things. So,

  44. Jeramie: the Holy Spirit is poured out ⁓ as Christ ascends to heaven on Pentecost. You know, and many argue we're looking forward to the return of Christ with trumpets. you know, so even those feasts are kind of mapped onto the life of Christ and foreshadow ⁓ these things. So,

  45. Allen: You know, Leviticus, it gets a bad rap because of, you know, infectious skin diseases and sacrifices. But actually, when you start looking at Leviticus through the lens of Jesus, it's super rich. In fact, it is the kind of substructure theologically that out of which we make sense of the New Testament. Yeah, exactly. Well, let's let's look at the Psalm. ⁓ yeah. What what struck you in the Psalms this this go around? ⁓ man, for me, I

  46. Jeramie: You know, Leviticus, it gets a bad rap because of, you know, infectious skin diseases and sacrifices. But actually, when you start looking at Leviticus through the lens of Jesus, it's super rich. What what struck you in the Psalms this this go around? ⁓ man, for me, I

  47. Allen: It's one of my all-time faves, Psalm 46. ⁓ God is our refuge and strength, a helper who's always found in times of trouble. Therefore we will not be afraid, though the earth trembles and the mountains topple in the depths of the sea, though its waters roar in foam. And you know, this is a special Psalm for me and for our church, because this was really the Psalm that right after Hurricane Ian, I sent a letter out to the church. ⁓

  48. Jeramie: It's one of my all-time faves, Psalm 46. ⁓

  49. Allen: called the bathroom epistle. That's what people call it because I was in the bathroom epistle. was in the hotel, the bathroom, the bathroom of the hotel in my hotel room because Jennifer was asleep and I didn't want to wake her up. It's three in the morning, couldn't sleep and I didn't know how to deal with it. So I just wrote this letter to the church. But it was really a reflection on Psalm 46. That although the storm is raging outside, inside where God is with his people, there's a river. ⁓

  50. Jeramie: called the bathroom epistle. ⁓

  51. Allen: of peace, know, verse four. There is a river, it streams delight, the city of God, the holy dwelling place of the Most High. And so that was really the basis of that letter. And so for me, this is just kind of go-to Psalm when the world's falling apart. That's great. ⁓ Psalm 46 was the same for me. And what really struck out to me is this name of

  52. Jeramie: of peace, know, verse four.

  53. Allen: Yahweh God, the Lord of Hosts. Now I was doing a little bit research on this. The Lord of Hosts appears 242 times in the Old Testament as a divine title for God, for Yahweh, and it emphasizes His authority over all angelic armies, over all spiritual forces. He's divine King. He commands a vast military to accomplish His purposes, and He just is omnipotent. He has power over all things. He's sovereign. He has control over all things. And like you said, we need not fear.

  54. Jeramie: Yahweh God, the Lord of Hosts.

  55. Allen: because this God is the Lord of hosts. He's in control over all things. Well, and especially in this passage because the, you know, in the original text, the raging waters are the nations that are hostile to Israel. Exactly. So the fact that he's the Lord of the armies and the hosts is really ⁓ good. You know, in verse 10, it says, be still and know that I am God. We often read that as I just need to be still and quiet. But actually in the context, it's God, the Lord of

  56. Jeramie: because this God is the Lord of hosts.

  57. Allen: Hosts speaking to the nations that are harassing Israel. Yeah, he's like stop it. Yeah Stop it because I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth The Lord of Hosts is with us. He's like, hey, you don't need to fear and you can be still because I will be exalted I will make my name great. I'm in control. I'll make the war cease and I will stop the hostility fighting for you Yeah, it made me think about ⁓ I think sometimes we kind of downplay God's holiness and his justice

  58. Jeramie: Hosts speaking to the nations that are harassing Israel.

  59. Allen: And when you in and I think what that kind of trickles down to is us wanting to take vengeance into our own hands. But Deuteronomy and then Romans do not, ⁓ you know, avenge because vengeance is mine. I will repay says the Lord. Because, know, I think a lot of times we get offended in life. People offend us. They do things that irritate us. we take offense, which is just like once you start going down the road of I'm offended, like you are just going to get played by the devil. Yeah.

  60. Jeramie: And when you in and I think what that kind of trickles down to is us wanting to take vengeance into our own hands. Yeah.

  61. Allen: And so, like, the way out of the offense trap is to just say, know what? God will take care of that. God will take care of it. I don't have to be, like, the scorekeeper and the judge and the jury and the executioner. That's God's business. Yep. That's right. What is done in the dark will be brought to the light. And I can put that properly back in God's hands for him to handle. Yeah. But as long as we're living in offense, I mean, we're just, we're Satan's puppet. You know, it says in Ephesians, ⁓ don't let the sun go down on your anger.

  62. Jeramie: And so, like, the way out of the offense trap is to just say, know what? God will take care of that. God will take care of it. I don't have to be, like, the scorekeeper and the judge and the jury and the executioner. That's God's business. Yep. That's right. What is done in the dark will be brought to the light. And I can put that properly back in God's hands for him to handle. Yeah. But as long as we're living in offense, I mean, we're just, we're Satan's puppet. You know, it says in Ephesians, ⁓ don't let the sun go down on your anger.

  63. Allen: So, and then don't give the devil a foothold. And so, man, if I'm just like living, brewing, stewing, anger, frustration, offense, then the devil's got a total steering grip on my life. Yeah. Yeah. That's rough. So, yeah. That's great. Yeah. One last quick comment on the Psalms. Psalm 47, one and two.

  64. Jeramie: So, and then don't give the devil a foothold.

  65. Allen: Clap your hands all people shout to God with loud songs of joy for the Lord the most highest to be feared a great King over all the earth man singing worship. Yeah, just I think you mentioned in the sermon the other week or something. It's just like Christians can't stop singing. Yeah, why because they know their God they're overcome with God's character with who he is that they just can't help but affectionately. Well, it's our first current right that we named this podcast after which is savor God.

  66. Jeramie: Clap your hands all people shout to God with loud songs of joy for the Lord the most highest to be feared a great King over all the earth man singing worship. Yeah, just I think you mentioned in the sermon the other week or something. It's just like Christians can't stop singing. Yeah, why because they know their God they're overcome with God's character with who he is that they just can't help but affectionately. Well, it's our first current right that we named this podcast after which is savor God. that we're called together to savor him. Oh, by the way, just in case anyone's reading in this section, just so you know, technical, Psalm 42 and Psalm 43 are probably actually one Psalm. So if you read it, you'll notice the repeated phrases in it. it looks like two Psalms in our Bible, but probably originally it one Psalm. Because chapters weren't there. That's right. Fun fact. Fun fact. Okay. Great. Let's go look at Matthew.

  67. Allen: that were called together to savor him. Oh, by the way, just in case anyone's reading in this section, just so you know, technical, Psalm 42 and Psalm 43 are probably actually one Psalm. Fun fact. Okay. Great. Let's go look at Matthew. Matthew. Let's look at a little bit of Jesus's teachings right now. We get some interesting passages in here and they call it all kind of we get some ethical teaching from Jesus here. He looked at divorce here and then there's kind of a theme that gets threaded through through all of these stories. He has let the children come to me, speaks of a rich young man, laborers in the vineyard. He kind of foretells his death.

  69. Allen: He heals two blind men and then kind of begins this ⁓ triumphal entry. But I think there's a theme that threads through this if you want to comment on the theme. Yeah, I agree. And it seems that one of the major themes running through this section is the surprising nature of the kingdom of God, which is really one of the themes throughout all the Gospels is that Jesus is coming to bring God's kingdom, but it ain't the way people thought it was going to be. You know, so it's like if you want to come into the kingdom, you got to be like a child.

  71. Allen: Right. It's like a child. Children are no... you know, in that culture, there were no buddies. Like, they didn't have any status. They didn't have any oomph. The rich young ruler, he's really ⁓ obedient. Like, he's trying to keep the law faithfully. But Jesus is like, well, if you really want to be perfect and enter the kingdom, then sell everything and follow me. Right. And ⁓ that's our second... you preach that at Luke, which is the parallel story. But you preach that to say the current of sacrifice yourself.

  72. Jeramie: Right. It's like a child. Children are no... you know, in that culture, there were no buddies. Like, they didn't have any status. They didn't have any oomph. 73. Allen: That's right. That's a second current. Sacrifice yourself. Sacrifice yourself because the surprising nature of the kingdom is that you have to become like a child. In other words, become nothing ⁓ in this section. dependent. Totally dependent. Talks about how the last will be first and the first last. So you got to become last. You got to sacrifice yourself and put everyone else in front of you and before you to get into this kingdom. It's a surprising humility because again, and this is demonstrated by Jesus,

  75. Allen: who is the king over all the nations. We just talked about how omnipotent, sovereign, and powerful he is. Yet he comes and he serves and he's last. He doesn't assert himself to a position of authority on earth. Yet he becomes last, serves, washes disciples' feet. Yeah, well, you see it there in, ⁓ you know, his prediction of his death in chapter 20, verses 17 through 19. You know, he's like, hey guys, I'm going to go get killed for this. And that didn't...

  77. Allen: That did not fit the narrative. Or then, you you have in chapter 20 verses 20 to 28, you got the two sons of Zebedee who are like, we want to sit in your right and your left. And Jesus says, no, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant. Whoever wants to be first must be your slave. Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.

  79. Allen: So at the very nature, sorry, at the very core of the surprising nature of God's kingdom is Jesus himself and his death on the cross, which redefines the nature of the kingdom. Yeah, the surprising nature of the kingdom. Yeah. That's great. In 21, we begin the triumphal entry, as it's called. And Jesus, you know, he's coming to Jerusalem and the Mount of Olives

  81. Allen: And he says, Hey, go. I need this donkey or this coal. And he comes in on this donkey, which is like, what in the world? This is weird. I mean, the Bible is objectively weird, especially in our culture. We're lost on like, what is this? Yeah. It just seems strange to us. Why are certain things being emphasized? 83. Allen: Jesus cleanses the temple, which I think this is always interesting. think it's funny people always quote, it's like, yes, Jesus got anger. He went and flipped tables in the temple. And it's just like, wait, yeah, he did. But why? It's because they had defiled worship. They're supposed to be worshiping the one true God and they're there having markets and selling for gain. 85. Allen: abandoned its purpose. The temple system has failed. Jesus is about to overthrow it with His death and resurrection. And it's interesting, right after the cleansing of the temple, you get the weird sign of the cursing of the fig tree. it's...

  87. Allen: It's like, why did he curse the fig tree? Why is he so mad at that tree? Just because he was hangry, like he wanted food. He was like, It's like, no, it's a symbol of the temple. The temple has been unfruitful and the whole system has been unfruitful and now Jesus is here to bring an end to it through his death and resurrection. Yeah, that's right. And I think at the end of that 22, he says, in whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive if you have faith.

And I think at the end of that 22, he says, in whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive if you have faith.

  89. Allen: So you have faith in the one who was about to establish his throne by overcoming and being greater than this temple. And he says, hey, anything you ask in faith in me, in his character, in his nature, and what he's accomplished, you will receive because he is God. That's challenging. You know, I just feel like sometimes when I pray, just don't pray big and bold enough. No. You know? Yeah. And I need to just pray more boldly and say, Lord, I believe you can do this. If it's your will.

  91. Allen: If it's your plan. But my job is to pray boldly. I think that's always challenging me that verse. Yeah. Yeah. Likewise, when I was reading it's like, man, when I pray these prayers, do I really, really believe that God can do them? And at the honest interest, no, I don't. Sometimes I pray and she's like, I don't know if he can do this. But he can. It's good. ⁓ And it's yeah. And we just finished Leviticus. Now we're just finishing acts. Yeah.

  93. Allen: We're finishing acts. ⁓ Super exciting part of acts. Storms at sea, shipwrecks, vipers latching on to Paul. I mean, who the Bible is not entertaining? ⁓ man. This is like the action sequence at the end of acts. ⁓ Some some cool things in this section. I think you again see Paul testifying.

  95. Allen: now before a king, King Agrippa, and ⁓ he's bold with the Gospel. Acts 26-23, the Messiah must suffer, and that as the first arise from the dead, he would proclaim light to our people and to the Gentiles. And that's the central theme of Acts. that it's going to, from Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, to the ends of there, to the Gentiles. That's right. To the nations. And you're seeing it. And even the cities, know, Acts begins in Jerusalem and in chapter 28 it ends in Rome. Yeah. Now Paul's in prison. It's not there the way we thought he would be there, but ⁓ it gets to Rome. And so, you know, it ends in chapter 28 verse 30, Paul stayed two whole years in his own rented house and he welcomed all who came and visited him proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance. So even though he is hindered, he's in prison, the word of God is not hindered. And right in the heart of Rome, there's Paul preaching the gospel. And so the gospel has made it from the capital of Judaism, in a sense, to the capital of gentile-ism? Sure. Gentile-dom? Gentile-dom. Whoa. Add it to the dictionary.

Hey, quick question for you. Yeah. I'm thinking about Christians who are listening, who want to be bold, like Paul, preach the gospel amidst persecution, possibly being thrown in jail, although I don't think we suffer the threat the way that Paul does. That's right. But he's testifying boldly about the gospel, about Jesus. And I'm thinking about those who, as

  101. Allen: Christians, we are to evangelize, tell people about Jesus, ⁓ how to boldly preach and how they should think about sharing the gospel to people. And I think what was interesting is Paul in Acts 26, when he's before King Agrippa in 28, and Agrippa said to Paul, so insert, hey, your friend says to you, this is something someone would say, in a short time, would you persuade me to be a Christian?

  103. Allen: Yeah, in one way think you're gonna make me a Christian. That's right Yeah, like like that's a question that we might face. Yeah, and here's Paul's answer Whether short or long I would to God that not only you but also hear me this day Might become such as I am except for these chains, right? What I mean, I'm just thinking about like hey If someone asked me in a short time to be persuaded me to be a Christian and I answer yeah short or long I just

  104. Jeramie: Yeah, in one way think you're gonna make me a Christian. That's right Yeah, like like that's a question that we might face. Yeah, and here's Paul's answer Whether short or long I would to God that not only you but also hear me this day Might become such as I am except for these chains, right? 105. Allen: would to God that not only you but also hear me this day and might become such as I am except for these chains. All who hear me this day. Yeah, all who hear me this day. What does that mean and how should we think about that applying if we're trying to share the gospel with people? I think it means that we understand what our role is, which is to be clear about the gospel. Whether it's short or long is kind of out of our hands. know, it's or long or ever.

  106. Jeramie: would to God that not only you but also hear me this day and might become such as I am except for these chains.

  107. Allen: Yeah, know, so Paul, it shows you that Paul doesn't know. He doesn't know what the outcome of this is. He's like, I don't know if this, if you're going to like get saved right now. I don't know if like 10 years from now you're going to saved. But he's like, I want you to be saved. So I think it speaks to what our heart has to be, which is we want people to be saved. And then what our task is, which is to be clear. And I think that's what boldness is really about is clarity and a willingness to speak clearly about the gospel and not, you know,

  108. Jeramie: Yeah, know, so Paul, it shows you that Paul doesn't know. He doesn't know what the outcome of this is. He's like, I don't know if this, if you're going to like get saved right now. And then what our task is, which is to be clear. And I think that's what boldness is really about is clarity and a willingness to speak clearly about the gospel and not, you know,

  109. Allen: water it down, sugarcoat it, leave parts out, but just be like, is what it is. And then trust that whether in a short time or long, our heart is that God would save that person. ⁓ I think that's both freeing and difficult because we have loved ones who don't know Jesus. And I think we want them to know Jesus more than anything, but it's out of our control. It is out of our control. Which can be little bit heart breaking. like, man, I just want you to believe in Jesus.

  110. Jeramie: water it down, sugarcoat it, leave parts out, but just be like, this is what it is. Which can be little bit heart breaking. like, man, I just want you to believe in Jesus.

  111. Allen: But it's also comforting. It's like, wait, I'm not responsible for the condition of someone's heart. I just proclaim the truth and God has to be the one to open up eyes and open up hearts. mean, how do you change someone's heart? How do you change? I mean, take any issue like politics or a view of something and someone just sees it differently. You're like, I wish I could just go in and change their mind. But like, you can't. Yeah, you can't. You can even present good arguments. But if people are just dug in or their heart is hard or they're set in their ways or whatever.

  112. Jeramie: But it's also comforting. It's like, wait, I'm not responsible for the condition of someone's heart. You can even present good arguments. But if people are just dug in or their heart is hard or they're set in their ways or whatever.

  113. Allen: And so that's why ultimately we need the power of the Holy Spirit ⁓ to change hearts. know, again, know our job. We need to have a heart for people and we need to speak clearly. But God does the converting and the saving. That's great. And that reminds me of a passage that we actually read ⁓ with the rich young man. And they asked Jesus, who then can be saved? Who then can be saved? And we get this famous verse which says, Jesus looked at them and said, with man, this is impossible.

  115. Allen: But with God, all things are possible. And that doesn't mean you can just go and do anything you want. Meaning I set my mind to it. I'm going to go and accomplish world. I'm going to be the president of the United States of America and I'm going to solve world hunger. God, it's possible. With God, all things are possible. But no, he's saying with man, it's impossible to be saved. Right. But with God, the Holy Spirit quickening hearts, making alive hearts, they can be saved. Yeah. God can even save a rich man who

  117. Allen: You know, and riches in the Bible are a mixed bag. Sometimes they're viewed as the blessing of God, but a lot of times they're also viewed as a temptation and a snare. And here it's this snare passage where it's like this guy is, he loves his wealth and so he doesn't love Jesus more than his wealth, and so he's not going to follow Jesus. And it's like, can you do that? How could someone come to faith who's like in love with They have everything they possibly need earthly possession. And they love it. And it's like, God can change their heart. God can change their heart.

  118. Jeramie: You know, and riches in the Bible are a mixed bag. Sometimes they're viewed as the blessing of God, but a lot of times they're also viewed as a temptation and a snare. 119. Allen: And God has changed my heart, he's changed your heart, and he's given us his spirit to be able to understand the Word, to proclaim the Gospel, to see the truth and the beauty of God, and to savor him and to love him. And that's our greatest joy. That's great. Any closing comments on Leviticus Psalms, Matthew, Acts, or any encouragement for our readers as we continue to trek along? Congratulations on month two.

  121. Allen: That's right. I guess that's the big one. Congratulations on month two. You're one sixth of the way there, which is 12.5 % of the readings, math is correct. I think that's right. Okay, Good job. Hey, we want to continue to savor God with you. If you are behind, just pick it up and read. Ain't nothing to it but to do it. It's true though. Yeah, that's right. 123. Allen: Finishing them in a certain timetable. So if you've got way behind just like it's March say and just start it month two in March Who cares? Yeah, just keep reading. That's exactly right. That's right. Because you want to get God. That's it It's about getting God. It's about getting God. Savoring God. Savoring God. Knowing God.
