You're listening to a message to go from ex Church.
-
We hope this message will light up your day. Today
-
is actually the first Sunday of the second half of
-
the year, so fast, right, it's crazy. So so my
-
dad's birthday today seven seven.
-
Yeah, and I.
-
Thought, hey, you know, like how sports, right, you always
-
have that halftime check in, whether it's football or you know,
-
different games, you have the half game halftime check in.
-
So I thought it's good to do a halftime check
-
in with us this morning, just a quick one. So
-
we know that the theme that God has given X
-
Church this year is that all may know now amen,
-
And I want to encourage us that truly this is
-
God's word for us this season. And I just want
-
to give glory to God that he has been moving
-
that people have been come to know Jesus. Okay, today
-
I just want to share three very quick photographs of
-
three people in my personal circle that have come to
-
know Jesus in the past half a year. Okay, So
-
this is a quick check in, and I'm want to
-
give God glory to encourage us to keep believing, to
-
keep sowing into lives to know Jesus. So I want
-
to show us the first picture. So this is my
-
high school friend Ching Ching. So some of you remember
-
me preaching about, you know, how she came to know Jesus.
-
It was over basically, at least for me and her,
-
it was. I mean, we've been friends for twenty over years.
-
But in the last two years God has been moving
-
true dreams, true reconnections. And so she accepted Christ in
-
March this year in Singapore.
-
Amen. Praise God for that.
-
Yay.
-
Amen.
-
So I got to meet her when I went to
-
Singapore for training. Next picture, Yeah, yes, So in this picture, okay,
-
we see Tannisha right, that is next to Passssandra and guitar.
-
Right.
-
So Tanisha is our very own young person here from
-
ex Cyberjaya. And she also accepted Christ in April. Yeah,
-
at our ex teens party. Yes, praise God. And you
-
know she's growing in the Lord. You know, she has
-
been inviting her classmate to church over the past few weeks. Yeah,
-
and her classmates sister, and they come from a challenging background,
-
and I'm just so proud of her for, you know,
-
looking out for her classmate who's going to a tough
-
time and bringing her to church so that she can
-
find hope and love and life in Jesus.
-
Amen. So proud of you girl. Keep growing in the Lord. Amen.
-
And the next picture this is this is this was
-
an in turn in my workplace.
-
She's been with me for the past two months.
-
Her name is Alexandra or Alex for short, and she
-
actually got saved at our ex teens camp.
-
Yeah about yeah, one two months ago.
-
Yeah, Alex got saved supernaturally as well. And so she's
-
just flown over to Australia to.
-
Further her studies. Yeah.
-
And I've had the privilege of giving gifting a Bible
-
to Ching Ching walking her through the starter pack. I've
-
also had a privilege of gifting Alex a Bible and
-
walking her through the starter pack.
-
I just want to praise God.
-
In a matter of half a year in my personal circle,
-
He's allowed me to either be directly involved or be
-
able to witness the salvation of three precious sisters in
-
my life. And I give God all the glory. Come on,
-
praise God together with me. So I'm telling you friends,
-
if this is just me and my circle and God
-
is already moving, right, I believe he's moving in your
-
personal circles.
-
Amen. Amen.
-
So know that the theme that all may know is
-
just not something in words, but it is in power,
-
the power of the Lord. So even as we start
-
the second half of the new year of the year,
-
you know, let's continue to press on, you know, in
-
the Lord and say, Lord, I want to see you,
-
you know, save different ones in my personal circle. Yeah,
-
maybe not the first half of the year yet, but
-
the second half of the year. There's still time. There's
-
still time that all may know in your personal circle.
-
And everybody say amen, amen. So today I'm going to
-
preach continuously on the theme that all may know and
-
the angle that God has given me today for us
-
is we can show the title Christ is enough. Everybody
-
repeat after me, is enough that all may know? Okay,
-
So today I want to share with us. I want
-
to encourage us, I want to teach us. I want
-
to equip and empower us to know that Christ is
-
really enough.
-
Okay, that all may know. Okay.
-
So now currently I am reading the Book of First
-
Corinthians for my personal devotion. Anyone here, you're also reading
-
First Corinthians.
-
Anyone? Okay? No, all good?
-
You are you know the Lord is leading you to
-
his book in season that you need to hear from him.
-
So for me, it's First Corinthians. Okay, we can show
-
the next slide. So since the theme of our church
-
this year is that all may know. Previously, I was
-
actually in the Old Testament for my devotion, but in
-
recent time God has brought me to the New Testament
-
for this season, and He's called me to read the
-
Book of X. So I actually I've been reading the
-
Book of X for my devotion. And I read it twice. Yeah,
-
I finished one round and then I felt the lot say, no,
-
you're not done yet. Read another time. So I read
-
the Book of X over again. So I read it twice.
-
Uh, And the.
-
Heart was I wanted to know how did the Early
-
Church make Jesus known? I wanted to come back to
-
the old g S. They are the old G's, you know,
-
how did the Olgis do it? I want to learn
-
from them. And it's been so power packed, you know,
-
just just learning from the Book of X, the Early Church.
-
And then we know that in the Book of X
-
there were there were three key figures. Okay, so the
-
book starts with Peter, right, and then after that it
-
went on to Stephen, and then it went on to Paul,
-
and Paul basically planted diferent churches around Europe and Asia.
-
Uh and today, you know, a lot of the modern
-
churches that we have in the world are a result
-
of Paul's missionary journeys and planting. Okay, of course, and
-
the other disciples apostles of Christ as well, right, Like
-
I know the church in India, owes it largely to apostles Thomas, right, Thomas, Yeah,
-
in India and different continents, you know, different apostles when
-
to plant. Yeah, but Paul also had a big hand
-
in a lot of the churches. Uh. And so I
-
wanted then, I wanted to read a little bit more. Okay,
-
So after Paul planted the churches as mentioned in the
-
Book of Acts, how.
-
Did he keep in touch with them?
-
What did he say to them to keep their faith going,
-
to continue to make Jesus known?
-
I was? I wanted to know more.
-
So I basically am now on a journey of reading
-
the Pauline epistles or his letters to the different churches
-
that he's planted, because I want to know how did he,
-
you know, continue to strengthen the church to make Jesus known.
-
It wasn't easy.
-
Each church had their own challenges, right, So I started
-
by reading first Tessalonians, and I shared with your last
-
month right on the Church of Tessalonica a little bit.
-
I couldn't share everything, but I shared a little bit
-
what I could. And so today I'm going to go
-
on to share about the Church of Corinth.
-
Right. So this is literally in the order.
-
So Paul planted Tessalonic, the church in Tasalonica first, and
-
then later on he planted the church in Corinth. Yeah,
-
and so the letters are in their order, so I
-
wanted to read in that order. Okay, So today I'm
-
going to just introduce us to the church in Corinth,
-
all right. So I'm going to share with us two things,
-
the background of the city of Corinth, and then I
-
would share with us the background of the Church of Corinth.
-
It's just like you know, Casey's family comes and then
-
we introduced them to the city of Cyberjaya, and then
-
we introduced them to the church hearing ex Cyberjaya. So
-
we start from a bigger perspective, then we zoom in
-
to you know, the local church all right.
-
So this is.
-
An ancient map, all right, during those times where the
-
epistles were written. Okay, Just to recap Greece in those days,
-
was this region, okay, this region, and Greece was divided
-
into two sub regions, Macedonia and a Kare all right,
-
And the Church of sorry Tessalonica and the Church of
-
Thessalonica was in the region of Macedonia. But the city
-
and the Church of Corinth is actually in the region
-
of a KaiA, So one is in the northern region.
-
One this is in the southern region. So we talked
-
about the church in Tasalonica the last round, and today
-
we're going to talk about the church in Corinth.
-
All right.
-
Ethens, the capital of Greece, is quite near the city.
-
Of Corinth, all right.
-
So that's location wise where the city of Corinth is
-
a little bit more about the city of Corinth. Corinth,
-
just like Thessalonica, these two were port cities.
-
Port cities meaning.
-
That they were located by the seaside and it was
-
a very strategic location and a lot of people will
-
come from all over to trade.
-
So it was like.
-
The Singapore of those days, yeah, the Malacca of those days,
-
the Pinang of those days. Yeah, So it was a
-
it was a you know, busy, hustling and bustling pot city,
-
very cosmopolitan. There were there were Romans in the city,
-
there were Greeks, there were Jews and all.
-
Kinds of people in the city.
-
Yes. So the last time I preached, I shed that
-
Tassalonica reminds me of Cyberjaya is a melting pot of cultures.
-
So Chrinth as well is also very much like Cyberjaya,
-
a melting pot of cultures. You got people from north, south, east,
-
west and all over all, right, so we can actually
-
identify with them. And if you ask, does the city
-
of Chrinth still exist, Yes, it does, Just like the
-
city of Tassalonica, the city of Corinth exists. And this
-
is one of the many pictures of the city of
-
Chorrinth in modern day. The bridge actually reminds me of
-
the Pinang Bridge. Yeah, those of you from Penang a
-
little bit, I was like quite surprised, he doesn't that
-
look like the Pinang Bridge.
-
Yeah. So this is the city of.
-
Corinth in modern day and it is currently an important
-
industrial hub in Greece, so they produce a lot of
-
industrial items and they are also a tourist hub, so
-
you can actually Google, there's even a website called visit
-
Corinth and they'll give you all the different things you
-
can do there.
-
Right.
-
Of course, the Corinth that you see in this picture
-
is called the New Corinth because the old Corinth was
-
actually destroyed in a massive earthquake. Actually, interestingly enough, the
-
old Corinth, Right, they went through tree earthquakes and one
-
fire which basically destroyed the old city. And this is
-
the new city that was built in the last few centuries.
-
But the old city is not very far off from
-
the new city, just a couple of miles. But this
-
is the new Corinth. Okay, so it still exists quite amazing, right, Okay,
-
so background on the city of Chrinth. Now let's zoom
-
into the Church of Corinth. Sorry, this one I don't
-
have pictures. I tried to search, but I could only
-
see all the you know, like remainings of old buildings.
-
I'm like, nah, I don't think i'll put that, Okay,
-
but yeah, so background on the Church of Corinth. So,
-
like I said earlier, it was one of the churches
-
that Paul planted. Okay, there is a starting fact, right,
-
And it was also a church that Paul kept very
-
close in touch with Paul would always WhatsApp, Yeah.
-
And PM and DM.
-
The church in those days, yeah, true physical letters and
-
truth sending people. Yeah, human letters in that sense.
-
Yeah. Okay.
-
Now, I mentioned earlier on that the city of Corinth
-
was a port city and it was very cosmopolitan, and
-
because of that, everybody brought in their culture their influence
-
to the city, and they also brought it into the church. Yeah. Okay,
-
So the city of korans right, although so far, when
-
I tell you, you know, the different stuff about Korinth,
-
it sounds like quite a wild, great city, right, I
-
told you it's like, you know, like a Singapore like
-
that modern day. But in those days, right, the city
-
of Chrinth was also a very sinful city. It was
-
so sinful that the locals had a term, the term
-
of chrinthianized.
-
Chrinth.
-
So to make someone fall into sin is to corintheanize
-
the person. Wow, that's a strong word, right. I pray
-
that never comes a cyber gyre for us. Okay. If
-
anything people want to label, you know, cyber giant, let
-
it be for good, not for bad.
-
Okay, But can you imagine.
-
The city was so sinful that people coin up a
-
term or this person has been choranthinized. This person basically
-
has you know, fallen into sin because of his or
-
her time in that city. Yeah, that's quite sad. Now
-
what kind of sin were they were they living in?
-
There was a lot of sexual immorality going on in
-
the city and also the church, yeah said, yeah, okay,
-
I shall not go into details we have under eighteen's here,
-
but you can read the Book of First Corinthians, okay
-
for more details. Yeah, so sexual immorality was high on
-
the list. I don't tree was also high on the
-
list as well. Yeah, they were worshiping a lot of
-
pagan gods and also disunity. They were very very fractionated,
-
very disunited because so many cultures right in the city.
-
Then they bring that same culture into church. I pray
-
that you know, the House of God here and every
-
other house of God will always be united, no matter
-
how many cultures backgrounds we have here, different ways of
-
doing things. We serve the same God, we walk in
-
his same way. So I declare the unity of God
-
over ex Cyberjaya, ex Church and every Church of God
-
on the face of this earth.
-
Amen. Yeah, okay, So these with a few.
-
Simple areas that the city was living under, and also
-
the church because it crept into the church. So the
-
city had a lot of sexual immorality, it crept into
-
the church. The city had a lot of idolatry. And
-
he was also creeping into the church. The city was
-
very disunited, and he was creeping into the church as.
-
Well, you know.
-
Yeah, and so there was one, you know, big problem
-
area for the Church of Corinth. The other problem area
-
was that they had different philosophies on God. And that's
-
what I'm going to focus on today for our message.
-
I'm going to touch on that. Okay, they had different
-
philosophies of God, and Paul had to address that in
-
his letter to them. Okay, now, so today I'm going
-
to talk about how do we make Christ known to
-
people with different philosophies of God. Yeah, I'm not going
-
to go into specifics, but I'm going to go into
-
the general principles and I hope from there we'll be
-
able to catch something.
-
Yeah. I also share testimony as we end as well. Well.
-
Now let's look Okay, so the first point of today's
-
message is the world seeks to know God. The world
-
seeks to know God and that's the same for you
-
and I. That's why we are here today.
-
I believe.
-
I choose to believe by faith and love, that we're
-
all here today because we're all seeking more of God.
-
It's not because we have a leader title. It's not
-
because we're on the serving roster. It's not because someone
-
forced us our parents, it's not because of peer pressure.
-
Just because my friend is going, I'm going. I choose
-
to believe and I pray that we are all here
-
because we too are seeking for more of God.
-
Amen.
-
Amen, And let me tell you it is not just
-
us that are seeking for more of God.
-
The people in the world who are.
-
Who do not know Jesus, yet they too are seeking
-
for more of God. In fact, they are seeking for God.
-
They have not found God. But we have found God,
-
and we say more of You Lord. But they haven't
-
even got to the right house. We have found the
-
house we are going in. We're making ourselves comfortable, opening
-
the fridge, using the toilet, sleeping on the bed, jumping
-
on the couch, and we say more of You Lord. Yeah,
-
but we want to help people find the right address today,
-
the address of Jesus.
-
Amen. Amen.
-
And so let's look at Eccally says this chapter three,
-
verse eleven. Okay, so I want to encourage us also
-
to you know, have our physical bibles, bring it to church.
-
Let's read it from our physical bibles. Okay. So what
-
I'm going to do is.
-
Right, I'm going to read Egally says this chapter tree,
-
verse eleven.
-
I will read it from my Bible.
-
Okay, I'm using the ESV Bible, but you can have
-
different versions, and let's read it together. And then I'll
-
come to the slide because this is a different version.
-
But I have a reason why I wanted to use
-
this version on the slide as well. Okay, not to self, Please,
-
do not have so many bookmarks in your Bible. Okay,
-
are we at Ecally says this chapter three I'm not
-
there yet.
-
Can you wait for me? Can? Okay? Thank you, love
-
you guys. Okay.
-
Egally says this chapter three, verse eleven. Okay, he has
-
made everything beautiful in its time. Also he has put
-
eternity into man's heart yet so that he cannot find
-
out what God has done from the beginning to the end.
-
Amen.
-
Now, I believe that most of the Bible versions that
-
you have are quite similar to what I read, but
-
to highlight the point that I want to get across,
-
I'm going to use this version from the Amplified Bible. Okay,
-
and so let's have a look at the slide, and yes,
-
let's read it. Let's read it together. Since we have
-
we're on the same page. Literally, Okay, three two one.
-
He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time.
-
He has also planted eternity, a sense of divine purpose
-
in the human heart, a mysterious longing which nothing under
-
the sun can satisfy except God. Yet men cannot find out, comprehend,
-
grasp what God has done his overall plan from the beginning.
-
To the end in Man. Wasn't that beautiful? Wasn't that powerful?
-
I love this version how it really amplifies the world
-
of God. For this verse and here we see that
-
God has actually planted a longing in every human heart
-
for him. God has planted a longing in every human
-
heart for him. And that's why from the start till
-
the end, man has been, is and will always be
-
searching for God. Because the dna of man contains a
-
hunger for the Lord. If we were born hungry for
-
milk and food, we were born hungry for God. We
-
are all born hungry for God, and that includes our
-
friends who do not know Him yet. And that's why
-
we've got to lead them to the brain of life Jesus.
-
Amen. Amen.
-
Now, so everyone is hungry for God, whether they realize
-
it or not, whether they admit it or not. But
-
people haven't innate hunger, longing, deep desire for God. It
-
is part of their humanness, our humanness. And man has
-
been trying to find God in his own ways. We'll
-
look at the next light. Man has been trying to
-
find God true many many, many ways. But not all
-
roads lead to the same destination. My friends, that is
-
a deception of the enemy that he uses to say, Oh,
-
all God's lead to the same God. That is not true.
-
And some of us who were assault yesterday we learn
-
this right. There is only one way, which is Jesus Christ.
-
And we'll come to that in a while. But I'm
-
just trying to say that man has a longing for
-
God because man was created with that longing, and because
-
of that, man tries to search for God through many
-
different ways.
-
Okay, now, let's.
-
Look at the next scripture, which is in First Corinthians,
-
Chapter one, verse twenty two. Let's hold on to this light.
-
I'm not gonna put okay, I think it's right. Okay,
-
put this okay. First Corinthians, Chapter one, verse twenty two.
-
Let's turn to it, even though the verse is on
-
the slide. First Corinthians, Chapter one, verse twenty two. Okay,
-
short verse, here we go. For Jews demand signs and
-
Greeks seek wisdom. For Jews demand signs and Greek seek wisdom.
-
This short verse.
-
Has been the essence of what God has been teaching
-
me in my personal devotion in the past week, and
-
it's also an essence of today's message. How many of
-
you have actually come across this verse or you remember
-
this verse? For Jews demand science and Greek sik wisdom. Now,
-
what has this got to do with us? Jews and
-
Greeks far far away, a long time ago. I want
-
to tell you that this verse has everything to do
-
with us today.
-
Let me show you why.
-
The Jews in those days represent the Eastern culture and
-
still represents our Eastern culture today. Most of us here
-
are of the Eastern culture. Most of us here, and
-
how does the Eastern culture look or search for God?
-
The Eastern culture many times search for God, thrue, science
-
and wonders.
-
They look for God's power.
-
If you study a lot of the Eastern religions, which
-
I will not name today, but you know some of
-
the key Eastern religions, a lot of their practices and
-
belief systems have to do with seeing God's power, true
-
signs and wonders.
-
And the Jews also.
-
Next, I want to show us a verse but our
-
science and wonders all that it takes to get to God.
-
Let's look at Matthew twenty four twenty four. Let's turn
-
to the scripture Matthew twenty four, twenty four, easy, worse
-
to remember year twenty twenty four. Matthew twenty four, twenty four. Okay,
-
So are we there yet?
-
Almost? Okay?
-
So it says this is what Jesus told his disciples
-
are before he was going to be crucified. He said,
-
for false Christ and false prophets will arise and perform
-
great signs and wonders so as to lead astray, if possible,
-
even the elect. So this verse tells us that we
-
cannot just base our search for God based on someone
-
who can perform signs and wonders. That is not true
-
and safe enough because there can be false Christ and
-
false prophets who will also perform great signs and wonders
-
to lead people astray. Even you and I we are
-
the elect, but even you and I have to be
-
careful to not get wild and swept away by someone
-
who can do great science and wonders. Okay, this is
-
a reminder for us as well as children of God,
-
the elect, and this is for us to also help
-
those who do not know Jesus to know that, hey,
-
we cannot just base our search for God based on
-
someone who can perform great signs and wonders speakers, They
-
cannot be God.
-
Okay, Now, how about the Greeks? Who did they represent?
-
They represent the Western culture, which some of I mean, like,
-
we may not originally be from the Western culture, but
-
I think it is creeping into our lives and you know,
-
influencing us quite a big as a bit as well.
-
Right, And what.
-
Does the Western culture pride itself on? Knowledge, logic, reasoning, order, wisdom?
-
The Western culture seeks after wisdom, and so how will
-
they seek for God through the path of wisdom? Trying
-
to discover God true wisdom, trying to prove God true
-
science and knowledge and wisdom, trying to reason out God,
-
trying to debate right. And so can you see now
-
that both the Jews and Greeks have relations to our
-
modern day life because people that we know some could
-
be more Eastern culture based and they're looking to see
-
God true signs and wonders. But there are also people
-
in our circle that are maybe more Western cultured based.
-
They're looking to see God through the knowledge part of things,
-
through the reason part of things, the wisdom part of things.
-
I'm sure you and I know people who are looking
-
for power, to see God in power, and we know
-
people who are looking to see God in wisdom, and
-
some maybe half half or you know, have both. But
-
this is how it relates to our modern day life.
-
And haven't all of us been at this pace? Maybe
-
some of us are still on this journey God. I
-
want to see more of your power in my life. God,
-
I want to have your I want to see more
-
of your wisdom in our in my life. We could
-
also be on this journey without knowing it, but we've
-
already found God. But we're saying I want to see more.
-
I want to see more. So some of us here
-
we are more skewed towards singing seeing God's power, and
-
some of us here are more skewed towards seeing God's wisdom.
-
To continue to grow in our faith. We're saying, God,
-
show me more of your power. God, show me more
-
of your wisdom. And for those who haven't found God yet,
-
they're saying, God, where are you? I want to see
-
your power first, then I believe. I want to see
-
your wisdom first, then I believe. So this this one
-
verse just blew me away. I'm meditated on it for days.
-
It was so mind blowing to me, like I've read
-
it before, but I've never seen it in this light.
-
And that's the power of God. You know, you can
-
read the word of God over and over again, and
-
each time he gives you a fresh revelation. And the
-
revelation is not for you to keep to yourself. It's
-
for you to share it with someone around you. Soone
-
I encourage you at two levels. Friends, One is continue
-
to keep going in your quiet time, all right?
-
And number two.
-
Is don't just keep the goodness that you get from
-
God in your quiet time to yourself. Ask the Lord,
-
who do you want me to share this truth with?
-
It could be a friend, It could be your family member,
-
it could be just any opportunity. But really, this is
-
how the fastest growing discipleship movement in India has grown.
-
I heard, whatever that they learn from their small group study,
-
they are challenged to share it with someone the moment
-
they step out of that small group. This is how
-
they grow to the last time, I told you twenty
-
six generations of disciples. So whatever we get out of
-
a quiet time, it's not just for you, It's for
-
someone who knows you. God always gives us a double portion,
-
one for us to put in our pockets, the other
-
is to put in someone's pocket.
-
Amen.
-
Okay, now, okay, let's look at First Corinthians, chapter one,
-
verse twenty to twenty one. First Corinthians, Chapter one, verse
-
twenty to twenty one. You know, wisdom must have been
-
a very big thing for the Church of corinth I
-
actually did a simple manual calculation. I searched up the
-
word wisdom in a New Testament and I analyzed which
-
book mentioned the word wisdom the most. And I kid
-
you not, First Corinthians mentions the word wisdom the most
-
in all the New Testament books. You to guess, what's
-
the number number of times that the word wisdom is
-
mentioned in First Corinthians spot on Olivia seventeen seventeen. The
-
word wisdom is mentioned in First Corinthians seventeen times one seven.
-
And I look, where's the next book that has the
-
next number of words or wisdom.
-
Yeah, it's another book. Okay.
-
It's also one of the Polite epistles, but it's less
-
than five. It's mentioned less than five times. And then
-
there are some Poline epistles that have no mention of
-
the word wisdom at all. So it's very interesting that. Wow, God,
-
you're speaking to this church to be careful not to
-
rest their faith and their salvation in the wisdom of men. Yeah, amazing.
-
Now let's look at First Corinthians chapter one, verse twenty
-
to twenty one. Okay, and okay, I am going to
-
read it all right, and then we'll look at the
-
slides again. Okay, First Quarrenthians chapter twenty, chapter one, verse
-
twenty to twenty one. Where is the one who is wise?
-
Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age?
-
Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
-
Verse twenty one? For since in the wisdom of God,
-
the world did not know God true wisdom. It please
-
God throughe the folly of what we preach to save
-
those who believe. Now, let's look at this version. This
-
is the Nalty version. Maybe some of your Bibles are
-
you know, Nalty, But I like how this version explains
-
this verse. It's nice and clear. Yeah, okay, so let's
-
read this version together again. Okay, three two one. So
-
where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the
-
world's brilliant debaters.
-
God has made.
-
The wisdom of this world look foolish, since God, in
-
his wisdom, saw to it that the world would never
-
know him true human wisdom. He has used our foolish
-
preaching to save those who believe. Wow, this was another
-
verse that also blew me away as ours reading it
-
during my quiet time. And this is such an assurance
-
to me that really we don't have to be all
-
wise to preach the gospel, because even in our foolish preaching,
-
God has the power to save those who choose to believe.
-
So I want to encourage you friends, you can preach
-
the Gospel to your friends and family. You don't just
-
need a pastor, a leader, your homeless leader. You don't
-
need an online sermon to preach to your family and friends.
-
You can do it. Turn to your neighbors say you
-
can do it. Turn to another neighbors, say I can
-
do it. Even in foolish preaching, God can use it
-
to save But people just have to choose to believe.
-
So I took it as a great encouragement. I don't
-
have to be like Billy Graham. Wow, you know, powerful eloquent,
-
anointed evangelists to save millions of people. I just have
-
to be Jill. I don't have to have all the
-
words to say. Sometimes I mispronounce my words. Sometimes I'm
-
not in the best energy or mood.
-
But it's okay.
-
In my foolish preaching, God can save someone. I just
-
have to go with him and he'll do the rest.
-
I'm just a shell. He's the one who.
-
Gives me the substance and flows through me. Amen and
-
all of us too.
-
So I'm so encouraged that God, in my foolish preaching,
-
you can save people who choose to believe. And this
-
is also a caution to us and the world to
-
not try to find God true human wisdom, because God
-
already determined. He said the world will never know him
-
true human wisdom. It is said already by God that
-
the world cannot reach Him by human wisdom alone, and
-
so we.
-
Don't have to get afraid. Sometimes, right, I get.
-
A bit afraid by the amount of knowledge that's coming
-
out in the world, not on a daily basis, but
-
hourly and minute basis. So much information it's just coming out,
-
or so much knowledge. It's just being churned out like
-
never before, and it can feel very daunting and overwhelming. Like, God,
-
with so much knowledge going on, how are people going
-
to find you? Because they're going to quote this knowledge,
-
They're going to quote that theory, They're going to quote
-
that fact, that discovery. How am I ever going to
-
keep up debating with the wisdom of the world.
-
I can't.
-
It's just too much. I just feel so overwhelmed. I'm
-
a person that likes to prove you know things or
-
God by you know, showing you evidence. But I come
-
to a point, God, I cannot do it. I cannot
-
match up with the amount of knowledge that the world
-
is churning out. So there's no way I can fight knowledge,
-
your knowledge. I'm not going to try. I'm going to
-
find knowledge with you. God. The Holy Spirit. You are
-
all knowledge. Yeah, and so yeah, take heart that. Really,
-
don't be afraid of the amount of knowledge that's coming
-
out in the world, because people ain't going to find
-
God just by knowledge itself.
-
Amen.
-
People are going to find God true, You and I
-
the foolish preachers. God chooses to use the foolish to
-
shame the wise.
-
Amen. And I'd rather be a fool for God than
-
a wise person in the world. Amen. Amen.
-
Okay, now let's go on to the next point. So
-
point one is that the world seeks God, and how
-
do they seek him? Many times it's either true seeing
-
his power or his wisdom. But that is dangerous because
-
anyone that has power can lead them astray, and anyone
-
that has wisdom can also lead them astray. But I
-
told you that we are not to follow after just
-
power alone. Neither are we to follow after wisdom alone.
-
All right.
-
Point two, the world needs Christ. I know it looks
-
so simple, like that's the right answer for the exact question.
-
But I want to show you.
-
Let's turn to First Corinthians, chapter one, verse twenty two
-
to twenty four. First Corinthians, Chapter one, verse twenty two
-
to twenty four. It's quite easy. All our verses are
-
in that part of the Bible. Don't even have to
-
turn the page. Okay, now, let's read it first. Corinthians,
-
Chapter two one, verse twenty two to twenty four. For
-
Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom verse twenty three,
-
But we preach Christ crucified a stumbling block to Jews
-
and folly to gentiles verse twenty four. But to those
-
who are called both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power
-
of God and the wisdom of God. We have both
-
the question and answer in the same few verses. The
-
Jews are looking for signs Jesus Christ is the power
-
of God. The answer is in the same passage. The
-
Greeks are looking for wisdom. Christ the wisdom of God.
-
The answer in the same passage.
-
This is a to me. This is a beautiful and
-
powerful passage.
-
It's going to become one of my favorite for life
-
already because it holds the secrets of how we are
-
going to make Christ known.
-
You're looking for power, My God has it. You're looking
-
for wisdom.
-
My God has it too. What are you looking for?
-
My God has it? Your God may just have power
-
but no wisdom. Your God may have wisdom but no power.
-
Your God may have nothing. My God has everything. Friends,
-
Can you see the perfection of Christ in this verse?
-
He is what the east and West needs?
-
Friends.
-
Christ is not just a Western God, as a lot
-
of the Eastern people say. Christ is God of the
-
East and the West, the north and the south. Christ
-
is Lord of everything.
-
Friends. Are you convinced now? I am so convinced.
-
I have risen out with a new level of confidence
-
to speak to anyone now because I know that My
-
God has every power, every wisdom, every answer that they're
-
looking for. I know it, and I want to pass
-
his confidence to you guys as well. To not be afraid.
-
Who is surrounding you ad the money for power to
-
prove that this is God? Are they the monding for
-
wisdom to prove this is God? Don't be afraid because
-
Christ has the perfect answer for your friend and your
-
family member. Whatever that. It all boils down to do
-
two things. Power and wisdom or PNW like praise it worship.
-
Power and wisdom is ultimately what the world is looking for.
-
To find God. Show me power, I will say, He's God.
-
Show me wisdom, I would say, is God money isn't
-
the end thing. Money is power and a part of
-
wisdom as well. Yeah, so Christ meets both needs. He's
-
able to satisfy people who are looking for him true power.
-
He's also able to satisfy people who are looking for
-
him true wisdom.
-
Amen. Amen. And I want to just show us John
-
fourteen six.
-
You know Christ is the perfect way, the only way
-
to come to Father God. Okay, we look at John
-
chapter fourteen, verse six, and it says Jesus said to him,
-
I am the Way, the truth, and the life. No
-
one comes to the Father except true me.
-
Amen.
-
Christ is the perfect way, the only way to God,
-
Father God, and he has all the power and all
-
the wisdom that the world is looking for.
-
Don't feel intimidated by the world. Amen. Amen.
-
That's why the title of today's message is Christ is Enough.
-
I couldn't put a longer title, but if I could,
-
this is how I would have said it. I would
-
say Christ is enough for both the East and the West.
-
So you put the East and Mess together, what do
-
you get the whole world. Christ is enough for the
-
whole world.
-
That all may know. Amen. Amen.
-
And the final point that I want to share with us,
-
point tree is we need the Holy Spirit to preach Christ.
-
There is no way you and I can preach Christ
-
without the Holy Spirit, no way. And that's why we
-
really acknowledge, we really believe in the power the presence
-
of the Holy Spirit in our lives, in our church.
-
Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity. If we live
-
the Holy Spirit out of our lives, we are not
-
worshiping God completely. We're only worshiping two thirds of the Trinity.
-
But we have to include the Holy Spirit in our lives. Friends,
-
if you look at it, Father God, together with the Trinity,
-
created the world, and he sent his son Jesus to
-
save the world from our sins. And Jesus has ascended
-
back to heaven. And then Father God send the Holy Spirit,
-
who is our teacher, our helper, our comforter, to live
-
with us until the end of times. And because he
-
knows that we cannot live the ways of Jesus, we
-
cannot preach Jesus without the Holy Spirit. If you look
-
at the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit was not always
-
with every person of God on earth, with the prophets,
-
with you know, selected men and women of God. But
-
the Holy Spirit was not poured out yet to the
-
commonness like you and I, and they couldn't keep the
-
commandments of God six hundred and thirteen commandments. They couldn't
-
keep it by their own strength. So we need the
-
Holy Spirit too, walk like Jesus. But we also need
-
the Holy Spirit to preach Jesus. If you notice the
-
Peter in the Gospels versus the Peter in acts, what
-
was the difference.
-
The power of God, his boldness, his wisdom.
-
The old Peter in the Gospels like to talk before
-
he thinks, and he was actually a scaredy cat. He
-
was a coward, that's why he denied Jesus three times
-
a lot, but actually very cowardice. But after the Holy
-
Spirit was pought out upon the disciples, Peter was transformed
-
into a different person. He no longer was impulsive out
-
of his own strength. If anything, he was impulsive in
-
the Holy Spirit. But the Holy Spirit gave him the
-
right words to say, gave him the power to say,
-
and you will read. The new Peter was also bold.
-
He rose up to preach to the public, he rose
-
up to lead the disciples. He became a different Peter.
-
And you and I need that same Holy Spirit that transformed.
-
The scared Jill.
-
Don't know what to say to a Jill that knows
-
what to say. Not out of my own wisdom, but
-
it's the Holy Spirit who inspires me and gives me
-
the power to witness for Christ. Okay, let's look at
-
Second Corinthians, Chapter one, verse one to five. We just
-
scroll down a couple of verses. This is a final point.
-
This is what Paul told the church in corinth And I,
-
when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming
-
to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom.
-
For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus
-
Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in
-
weakness and in fear and much trembling. And my speech
-
and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom,
-
but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so
-
that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men,
-
but in the power of God.
-
Amen. Even Paul, who.
-
Is like they're there, you know, highly learned, highly trained,
-
highly experienced, highly spiritual and religious, did not dare to
-
rest his confidence on his own wisdom, but he rested
-
it on the Holy Spirit. Because why, let's look at
-
Matthew chapter ten, verse nineteen to twenty. And this is
-
the final verse for today, Matthew Chapter ten, verse nineteen
-
to twenty. This is what Jesus encouraged his disciples. He said,
-
when they deliver you over, do not be anxious. How
-
you are to speak or what you are to say.
-
You are to say will be given to you in
-
that hour. For it is not you who speak, but
-
the Holy but the Spirit of your Father.
-
Speaking through you. Amen. Paul knew this principle.
-
That as great as I may seem to myself and
-
the eyes of the world and to God, I cannot
-
depend on myself. I got to depend on the Holy Spirit,
-
because it's the Holy Spirit who will give me what
-
to say in the exact hour. You know, yesterday I
-
just heard testimony from Lithia. Oh you don't mind me sharing,
-
you share it insult, Yeah, but just briefly. Okay, So
-
yesterday we had our AsSalt, our Saturday ex leaders training,
-
and so we were sharing testimonies of how God is
-
moving in our lives, our homes, our church. So LiTi
-
actually shared the testimony, and I think it ties in
-
very much with this point. So Letty has reconnected with
-
her basically her roommate from college days to working days
-
back in India. So when she was a student, she
-
actually stayed with this particular lady. And then later on
-
when they after they graduated and they started working, they
-
still continued to stay together. So you can imagine they
-
were closed, you know, good friends BFFs. And then life
-
went on. Everybody you know had their own separate power,
-
fell in love, got married, had kids, traveled the world
-
and finally they ended up together in kl In recent time,
-
so Letti reconnected with her college roommate, and this college
-
roommate she is she is of the Catholic faith and
-
her husband is not. Her husband is of a different thing,
-
all right, pray believing he has his own faith, okay.
-
And so recently they moved into a new place and
-
they invited you know, Balagility and family to a housewarming
-
of their new place. And they actually asked you know,
-
Balagility to actually say something or pray something for their home.
-
Because I believe that they see Jesus in their lives.
-
They could have caught some religious person of their faith
-
to come, but they didn't. They called Jesus walking in
-
flesh and blood here to their home. Now balagility took
-
it with great responsibility to say the right thing.
-
They were very worried about.
-
The wisdom of what to say because it's a man
-
of break situation, right, And if they say the right thing,
-
then maybe their friends would be wanted Jesus. But they
-
say the wrong thing, their friends might close up to them.
-
So it was such a big burden or responsibility on
-
their heart to want to say the right thing because
-
they love their friends, right that I know. At least
-
Little fasted the day before they went over. How many
-
of you would fast before going for a party?
-
Die yet? Maybe right?
-
Because you want to Yeah, lose one kilo to eat
-
tree kilows, right, Yeah, that's party. Right. But she fasted
-
the day before going for the housewarming because she's like, God,
-
I really need you, I really need you, I really
-
need you to tell me what to say to my
-
good friend. I love them too much to say the
-
wrong thing. And then she looked at Balaji. Ballaji normally
-
has all the answers, but that day he had no
-
answer as well. She looked at him and he also,
-
I'm sorry, I also don't know what we're going to
-
say later on, So you know, Ballaji that's not normal
-
for him. He always has something good to say. Yeah,
-
never a doubt moment in the Lord. But Litty and
-
Village were both stuck, like, what do we say later? Yeah,
-
sought the Lord and haven't really got anything from the
-
Lord yet. But God was moving behind the scenes. So
-
they went to the house warming and they still had
-
no idea what they're.
-
Going to say.
-
Wow, but they just trusted, Okay, God, you will give
-
us the words to speak in that hour, not this
-
hour yet, but that hour, that hour and true enough.
-
So they had a good time together, you know, fellowshipping
-
over the house warming, eating, laughing, talking, and it came
-
to the part of them having to say something for
-
the family and their new home. And then Letty felt
-
led to actually declare the blessings of God from Deuteronomy,
-
which was what passed ject preached last Sunday in church.
-
Yeah, am I right?
-
Deuteronomy? Yes, okay, the blessings of obedience. You know, blessed
-
are you? You know when you obey da da da
-
da da you your household, your family, your livestock, your land,
-
your grain, everything. And she boldly took yeah, I took
-
out her Bible and declared it.
-
And what do you think happened the husband?
-
The man teared up, grown tough, staunch pre believer teared
-
up as she was reading God's words. He was so
-
touched that someone would love his family enough to proclaim
-
blessings of God over them. Wow, does this situation make sense? See,
-
they went not knowing, not having the wisdom of the
-
right thing to say, but they depended on the Holy Spirit.
-
And when they did, the Holy Spirit came true that
-
very hour. And it may not have been something Litty
-
might have naturally wanted to do, to take out her
-
Bible and declare scripture outright over a pre believing family,
-
but she just knew that was the right thing to do,
-
and she did it out of faith and obedience. And
-
as the words were being read out blessings of God,
-
the man just teared up and his heart was moved.
-
And I believe his heart is now open and God's
-
going to go in and do even more.
-
Amen.
-
And can you see we can start out not having
-
the wisdom of God or the power of God, but we.
-
Rest on the Holy Spirit.
-
He will give us the wisdom the power we need
-
for that hour or rhymes right, Amen? We hope you've
-
been blessed by this message. For more information on our church,
